Great teacher, very understandable and knowledgable. In the test she only test what she has taught in lecture. You can copy the powerpoint and then fill in the blank.
Do not take her if you're able. She thinks it's funny to try to confuse students on her tests and quizzes. (Openly laughs about people getting bad grades) One of those people who have been in school for sooooo long, she thinks the subject should come easy for everyone.
I thought the class was tough but good. The thing some students may not like is that she has pop quiz's so if you don't come to class you wont pass. The tests where very fair, she posts the powerpoints and reviews on black board so that makes it easy to study for. I enjoyed her class very much.
Great teacher. Fair. Funny & Quirky. If you study, you should have no problem getting an A.
Study and you will make an A, simple as that. Her tests are all multiple choice so its not that bad.
I loved her as a teacher! I wish she was teaching an upper level class that i need. she posts outlines that are sometimes word-for-word on the exams. quirky and fun :) i would suggest her to anyone
Great Teacher! Easy tests, you just have to study some. The quizzes were a bit tough but she drops most of them!!
Great teacher who definitely loves doing what she does. Just go to class and study and there is no reason you cant make an a or at least a high b.
Do not take her if you're able. She thinks it's funny to try to confuse students on her tests and quizzes. (Openly laughs about people getting bad grades) Cares more about her research than teaching. Enjoys making trick quesions on tests so that people will fail. And if you don't like biology, she is no friend to you.
This is a lady who does not care about students. She actually tries to make people fail, I wish she had to post her pass/fail ratio. This lady cares more about her Turtle research than helping freshman pass Bio so they can move on with life. These nice posts, those are grad-students that work her labs for her. You pay for Bio, get a real teacher.
She is supervising professor for my genral bio lab 2. The class is a joke the lab is taught by TA, and he can't answer most the questions. Don't pay full tuition to a course that is taught mostly by someone who does not even have a masters degree. You might as well teach it to you'r self. NO notes or slides are posted to help you study at all.
Great teacher. Make sure you go to the SI sessions they have, she works closely with the SI leaders and they're very helpful. Her tests aren't that hard if you go to class every day and attend SI. She goes through A LOT of material quickly. She randomly has quizzes that aren't hard and bump your grade. If attendance is low, it's something simple.
Her lectures are very repetitive, which can get a little boring, but also makes everything very clear. The tests are on the lecture only. You don't have to read the text book, but it is helpful to look at the pictures when studying. If you study and show up for lectures, the class should be easy for you.
She's a great teacher who really cares about her students. She works closely with the SI leaders and they'll give you LOTS of help. And her office is open any time and she is always willing to talk!
Thank GOD I'm done with this class. She is a good teacher, but beware. She cares a LOT about keeping up with a schedule than whether or not students are learning the material. However, she is ALWAYS available to answer questions via class or email. Utilize her help! And go to class!! It moves at a VERY fast pace. And read beforehand!
I love being in her class!! You will enjoy her class, and she is very determine to help all her students!!
She loves biology and it's contagious. It made me enjoy science again, which is a big thing for me. Her lectures and powerpoints are clear. It's a tough class because there is so much material to learn and memorize, but if you study thoroughly before your tests you'll be fine! Take her.
She loves biology, laughs at herself, and lectures in a helpful, efficient way. Basically she's the best. She is always happy to talk if you are, and is eager to correct errors in her lab manual. But don't be disrespectful in class. She is a pushover, but will get angry if people are rude. Also, Bio 1 and 2 are the easiest lab sciences!!
Ms. Coleman is the best teacher, she is very clear about what she expects on tests and as long as you study her reviews there's no reason you shouldn't pass.
This class was taught by a TA. This TA was fenominal. She was sweet, relatable, and graded based on completeness. If you showed up and completed the work you got an A. It all depends on the TA you get. I had a horrible TA for BIOL 1106. Just make sure you know who you are getting. Having the right TA makes a world of difference!
awesome teacher!
She will give you a long study guide of whats "mostly" on the tests. For one of her tests I knew the material frontwards and backwards and still got a C. DO NOT study for her tests the night before and go to class to get more information other than the powerpoints.
She is one of my favorite professors so far! She lightens the mood by telling silly jokes. She gives you the opportunity to earn some bonus points on tests. There are quizzes and online homework assignments over every chapter.
LOVED her! She made the class fun and interesting. Would put bonus questions on the exams. The class isn't super easy but she makes you want to learn it. Lectures were never boring she likes making people laugh. liked her class so much i became a bio major.
I absolutely enjoyed Professor Coleman's class! She likes to make little jokes here and there to make her lectures more entertaining. Make sure to do your homework and the quizzes. Do the reviews and especially the outlines, and you will be set for the tests. She's great!
Professor Coleman is the most easy going yet helpful professor I've had at UT Tyler. I took her for both Gen Bio I&II. She replaces your lowest test grade with your overall HW average (so do the hw for sure), and she makes her power points interesting by adding puns and bonus points. She gives pop quizzes before long weekends-breaks!
Attendance isn't too mandatory, but she'll know if you're there a lot or not by whether you answer her clicker questions. The textbook was just a tool if you needed/wanted more explanation on her lecture. She didn't reference it or ask anything that was in it, but wasn't in lecture. Overall she's a great professor!
I love her lectures! She's funny, and she loves the subject matter. Her tests are very hard. I'm an A student and have consistently made B's on her tests despite hours of study and SI sessions. I still don't know if I'm going to end the semester with an A or B. I'm not sure I'd take her again.
Great teacher to have for first or second year students. She is extremely upbeat and will keep you engaged in the lectures. Tests are a little tough, but nothing impossible. Highly recommend
Jessica tells you exactly what she expects of you and is willing to help clarify anything you may not understand. Her lectures are power point based and they go with the book. She does put little text on her slides, so be in class to get the rest of the information for tests if you don't want to read the book.
Coleman is great! She is very passionate about biology, so her lectures are very entertaining! Even if you didn't like biology I feel like just having her as a lecturer would make you like the class. She is clear on what she expects from students and is willing to help!
Honestly, Jessica bugged me so badly but I can't deny that she was a GREAT professor. She was always pretty clear in her lectures. TBH I think the key to my success was taking her lectures seriously & taking really intense notes. She's cool and stuff, just don't jack around in her class bc she kinda treats it like high school. 9/10 would recommend.
She definitely is laid back! There is a quiz every week and online reviews due every week, but if you show up for class and do what is needed, then you will pass no problem. Easy to work with and succeed in. Three group projects so be able to work well with others! Other than that, it is an easy class to take as a freshman.
She is one of those teachers that you enjoy listening to, but do have to write down everything she says to do well. She does have powerpoint, but most of the exam questions come from her mouth. Easier class to type in, very heavy in group projects, and loves to help you out if you need it.
I loved Ms. Coleman! There's no way you could get through her class without laughing at least once. She's clear on her lectures as long as you pay attention or you get behind, and keep up on her online assignments! She also drops a lot of grades and is super willing to help you in anyway she can. She gives awesome extra credit too!
Great sense of humor, easy to work with, understanding, made morning classes not so rough. Few quizzes, mostly exams. Would definitely take her again.
Coleman is a fantastic lecturer and person as well. Shes also absolutely hilarious. One of the better teachers Ive had.
Great professor, she is always very lively in class. Don't miss class, I know it's not mandatory but you will regret it.
Jessica is amazing! I took her for Gen Bio 1 and 2. She's very enthusiastic and you can tell she loves what she does. Her lectures are great, and she goes off a PowerPoint that she also posts on Canvas. Attendance is highly recommended because part of your grade is participation. She's not an "easy A", but if you do the work, you should succeed!
J. Coleman is awesome. Really good teacher and her tests are exactly what she talks about in class.
J. Cole is an amazing teacher! shes really funny and engaging in her lectures. You need the textbook for the clicker and homework code, but i never opened the book once. She knows who's in class by the clicker participation and you do get a grade for that. She also randomly gives out extra credit "quizzes" that are helpful. for your grade.
The best teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are fun and easy to take notes from. She is absolutely hilarious and she gives you the option to do HW for a test replacement so that's an easy A for a test grade. She is also extremely caring for her students.
One of the best professors I've ever taken. She's amazing, will boost up your grade if you talk to her about it. She cares about her students like no other. Mastering Biology will cover a test grade, easy A. PLEASE take her! She's amazing and my favorite. Also clicker points count as attendance and help a lot, take advantage of it.
Best prof ever!!! Breezes through Bio1&2 with her help. Master biology bumps up your grade so much, so do it!!! Shes very funny and you can tell she cares so much about her lectures and her students. Best teacher Ive ever had. Thank you JCole!!!!
Jessica Coleman was a very funny and entertaining professor. She tests exactly what she lectures over, so unless you skip every class and don't bother to review stuff, you will be fine. Made over 100 in her class with minimal studying. Pay attention and take notes for better retention and class was a breeze. She gives lots extra credit as well.
Wonderful class, one of my favorites. The tests are easy, if you pay attention and study the reviews (which helps a lot). She is very lively and obviously cares about her subject, and is very willing to talk to you and help you if you need it!
I took her fall 2019. Shes a great teacher. Her class is fairly easy, Rmr the clicker questions they pop up on tests so to mastering biology thats something you do to replace one of your lowest exam grade. She is very understanding and willing to help. I slacked off my first semester otherwise I would have an A . She honestly very sweet!
Jcole was an amazing biology professor. She was funny, and tests were nothing too stressful if you took notes. She offers extra credit in place of a test grade but it is not mandatory. If you take notes and pay attention then making an A is no problem. She gives participation on in-class clicker questions that can be seen on the test. Great class!!
I loved Professor JCole, she is an amazing professor and wants you to succeed in her class! She talks through the material very well, and while she does post her PowerPoint on canvas, you should take notes or record her lectures as well! She teaches with passion and making biology very interesting to learn! :)
A great professor, would definitely take again. Exams are easy if you take good notes during lecture, and study them! Very helpful, and often makes jokes, so her lectures arent boring! 10/10 recommend.
Professor Coleman was such a kind and sarcastic professor who made me excited to wake up and go to class. You never know what dance moves or jokes she will come up with to make her Biology classes even better. She made the material easy to understand and gave us opportunities to go into more depth. I highly recommend taking this class.
Love JCole! The beginning of the semester was a bit difficult to follow but the end is packed with info but easier to understand. She does good at providing examples to understand the info. Also offers a replacement test grade to those who do the extra assignments on MasteringBiology.
Ms. Coleman is the goat and explains things very well. The optional homework is a major grade booster if you end up bombing one of the exams.
She is a gem. The best professor at UT Tyler. She is passionate about her work. Go to class, watch the lectures, pay attention, you will make a good grade.
In the perspective of a CAP student, I would not recommend to take her class. Her lecture is good, she positive and not so strict , but her exams her awfully hard. All exams added up is more than 50 percent of your total semester grade. Studied all day long before exam and got low B. Class average was 70-60 with the curve and extra points.
Tough grader and make sure to go to class and study a week for a exam. Quizzes have questions from the gen bio lab and a chapter ahead of what she is teaching. Exams are really hard.
This class was hard, but if you study for the exams and complete mastering biology you should make an A. I would also recommend doing the lecture outline notes because they highlight the material that will actually be on the exams and make lectures easier to follow. Overall, Jcole is a chill teacher, but this class is not for the weak!
Exams are hard and heavily weighted.
Jcole is a fantastic professor, but... her exams are impossible to pass. So be prepared to be studying for weeks before your exams and reading the whole textbook. My advice is to save the clicker questions and study the quizzes that should help you pass the test. Good luck!!
She did a good job of keeping me awake and informed while teaching. She is very quirky, but in a good way. There is extra credit. She gives pop quizzes for extra credit and always has bonus questions on tests. The tests are not easy. Attendance is not mandatory, but really makes a difference. Over all a good professor.
Professor Coleman was really good! I had her at 8 AM but she does a really good job of not making it boring. She does a really good job of explaining things and is super understanding. You have to go to class in order to do well because there is a participation grade at the end of the semester and some of the in class questions are on the tests.
One of the more challenging classes here on campus, regardless of you are a CAP student or not. Exam averages for the class were a bit below 68, with many questions coming from the clickers and quizzes. Studying and going to class is a must if you want a B or higher in the class. She is very understanding and willing to help you out. Lots of jokes.
J Cole was pretty easy. Got an A on the first exam, failed the last 2, and then aced the final. I got an A overall in her class. I stopped showing up because I honestly think her lectures are pointless. Just study the MasteringBio and you'll be good for the exams. She does a 2-part group project that kinda sucks, but it helps your grade out.
J. Cole is cool. Almost all of her exam questions are based off her online quizzes and in-class clicker questions. She provides opportunities for extra credit and is pretty engaging in lectures. She loves a good joke and wears punny t- shirts to help students feel more comfortable. Overall, biology is pretty hard, but J. Cole makes it worth it.
She was a great teacher! I took her in 2021 when COVID was bad and I was super sick, and she was so accommodating and really let me catch up. I liked when she gave you the option to watch via ZOOM, as I was still recovering. Her teaching style is GREAT. She really knows her material!!!
Jcole is one of the best lecturers I've had - period. There's a lot of information covered on exams but she gives a study guide. You'll also do a term paper, which she front-loads so that the rough draft is due by spring break so you aren't rushing at the end of the semester. She gives good feedback. Engaging, challenging course.10/10!
I do not like biology and this was a tough course because of that, but Jcole is definitley a great proffessor. It is important to go to lecture or you will easily get lost. Definitley take advantage of SI, ESPECIALLY for the mock exam. Jcole is funny and if you put in the work studying you will do fine.
I looked forward to her class! Plenty of extra credit opportunities, and she is very funny. The textbook is not required, but I would get it for the extra credit. The clickers are important, and you need an extra subscription for it (many have it if you buy it new). I'm actually kind of sad I won't have her again. J. Cole was great!
J Cole is hands down the best college professor I've ever had! Her tests can be tough but if you go to lecture and ask questions you'll be good to go! There is 2 group projects over the semester but J Cole makes sure that each person in the group gets the grade that they deserve for the project. Highly recommend biology with J Cole!
I would take J Cole again but in person, not online. The online students have essay questions on their tests but her in person students do not. SI also gives her in person students VERY "similar"...almost exact tests in the review sessions. I took this class along with a much harder class and didn't do as well as I wanted. Take her in person!
Good professor. You will need to purchase a clicker for attendance/ questions during class. Her exams are easy if you study the mock exam.
Mrs. Coleman has made learning biology so fun and interesting even with the difficult curriculum. She provides a lot of opportunities to get extra points on exams and just extra points to your overall grade. She is very understanding of personal issues and technological issues and will work with you.
Coleman is a great professor to take. The mock exams provided by the TAs are VERY helpful when it comes to the exams. She gives out various bonus points throughout the semester and is very lenient. She has 2 group projects that are a significant part of the grade.
She is a very funny and captivating professor. She gives ample opportunities to raise your grade throughout the semester.
She provides a ton of opportunities to raise your grade throughout the semester through easy pop quizzes for bonus points. She is very silly and her lectures are very easy to follow. The only downside of this class is there are two group projects throughout the semester but other than that I would highly recommend it.
As a freshman, I'd say she is very welcoming. She has many extra credit opportunities, drops low grades, and has grade replacements. There are 2 group projects which could be bad if you have a bad group. I would most definitely take her again.
Took her online, lectures weren't mandatory and not necessary to pass the class. The textbook and homework associated with the textbook is just extra credit.
Great professor, she gives many opportunities to raise your grade throughout the semester and is very easy to follow. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend getting a copy of the mock exam from the SI leaders before the exams as they are most of the time just exact copies of the test. She is always joking about something during class as well.
Coleman really loves teaching biology, and makes her lectures mandatory as a grade. She will sometimes give random easy in person quizzes, so make sure to attend most lectures. Her lectures are not boring at all. She is always accessible during her office hours as well.
J Cole is an amazing teacher. Engaging lectures. Simplifies complex concepts for people not familiar with bio (I had a good bio foundation before her class though). Her exams are only hard if you don't go to SI for the mock exam and if you don't pay attention to the clicker questions in class since the test questions are incredibly similar so study
A really awesome professor. I was incredibly scared for my first day of college and I was frightened by the "all professors don't care and are out to get you kicked out" stigma. Turns out, professors can be human and this was the case with JCole. Honestly, she's one of the best choices in the entire college. Recommend at least getting to know her.
By far my favorite professor! I chose 8AM lectures my first semester having JCole, and purposely chose an 8AM with her the second semester (and loved it). Don't be afraid of her! Easy to understand and answers questions well, LOVED the class and loved saying hi to her on campus!
She is a great professor, and I enjoy going to her class every day that I have her. She is super nice and super funny
This Instructor is pathetic! She teaches with a clicker, her method of teaching is very confusing, she is not approachable. Went for help numerous times and was passed off by her. Would not recommend her at all.
Very funny professor, makes her lectures interesting and i recommend going to class especially after the test ;)
