She is very clear in what she expects out of her students...and its a lot, but she offers help if you need it and she is VERY intellegent. If looking for an easy class, this isn't for you, if looking for an opportunity to learn a lot from someone who really knows the subject, this is your class.
great class if you want to be a history major. She is very intelligent, and expects alot out of her students. Only complaint is- All semester her tests were 80%lecture and 20%book, then the final was 100% book. Should concentrate more on teaching towards the final, and not pile so much on students
I loved her accent...hated her teaching practice.
never again!
OTC dropped the ball on this individual. She refers to herself as an instructor, how I don't know. She doesn't explain herself very well, when you ask her questions she is even more aloof. The smartest person in the world wouldn't make a very good "teacher" IF they CAN'T relate ti their students.
If she enjoys teaching then she better enjoy it while it last. Because she will not last long at Otc. If otc is smart enough and look at her ratings then she will be released from teaching.
This was the most difficult class ever and i agree with earlier post on how she doesnt explain her self. also the test went into such fine detail it was crazy...not recomended
GENDER IN AMERICA: Gerard encapsulates the worst meaning of the word "edification" in her lectures. She talked down to the male students all semester and wasn't much better to the females. Should have known better than to join in on a study that tries to understand women. :-D Poor teacher, AVOID @ ALL COSTS. very clutter-minded
Constantly declared herself as a "great teacher" even though she was my absolute worst ever. Never had anything constructive to say about any of my work, only negative comments. Dreaded going to her class. Do not take this teacher unless you enjoy painful torture.
in this class ive been told everything i was taught as a child in history was propaganda so why do we have a new zealand person teaching U.S history?this class has been a nightmare plese if you value your sanity dont take her as a history teacher or for that matter any other course..shes a nice person but sucks at teachingyou any thing that is clea
Four words to this teacher!!! GO BACK TO NEW ZEALAND!
This teacher was the most hardest teacher i have ever had. everything you do is always wrong. DO NOT TAKE HER!
no study guide, her lectures and notes are CONFUSING! her notes are all jumbled up. do not take her.
She did not lecture about anything that was on the tests. Her instructions were wordy, sometimes 2 pages long and they still didn't say anything! She didn't even know the difference between a comparison/contrast paper and a persuasive paper, a huge assignment in the class! DO NOT TAKE HER! If you need to for a schedule, WAIT!You'll be glad you did!
She ask alot out of her students but helps them with it if they ask.
I usually enjoy history class, but I dreaded going to her class. She assigns a journal and a term paper.
wow, how can this lady still be teaching, i started in a class of about 30 and when i dropped it there were 4 other people in there besides me, i honestly think this woman has some mental problem (for real), her notes are always jumbled, and her tests are irrelevant to the book and notes.
Worst teacher that I have ever had. Not only can she not teach... she is not a nice person!
Worst teacher ever! Not a nice person as she called me a failure and wouldnt amount to anything when I told he I was dropping her class. when I dropped on 9 people left out of 29. She teaches like a highschool teacher that everyone dreads. wouldnt recomend her to anyone!
Worst teacher ever. For some reason she thinks she is teaching english. I was a 4.0 student, now, well who knows. I started with a class of over 32 people, now there are 9. She shouldn't be allowed to teach. She has some major controll issues. She is not a nice person. karma will catch her.
WELL WELL WELL; All i have to say about her is that i hope they ship her back out of the U.S. so she isn't allowed to teach an American history class. You don't know everything mrs. thing. BE AWARE STUDENTS; DROP HER CLASS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE!!!
I think this teacher is amazing! The only people who don't do well in her class are students looking for an easy ride through school. Her lectures are intreresting and she knows the material. She is very fair in her grading. If you make F's on the first test but then you get an A on the last one she will give you an A in the class. I recommend her
Why is someone with a Doctorate teaching at a community college? She has a very high opinion of herself, and a low opinion of her students.
Dr. Gerard is being slammed unfairly. She is very interesting and clear but you do have to work hard. She wants you to learn and understand the material, not just slide by with little or no effort. There is a lot of writing in this class & no study guides for tests but I was never bored in this class. Taking thorough notes helps a lot.
She is horrible. Her instructions on assignments are not clear. She doesn't tell you when the text is supposed to read by, but will give pop quizzes and wonder why nobody has read what she is asking. Claimed that anything with 4 paragraphs or more in the book is important and should be remembered, but on the test she tested over the smaller details
She's not THAT bad of a teacher...she really does know what she's talking about. She does, however, have a thick british accent which causes her to be hard to understand, and speak really really fast. Be prepared to write a LOT, really quickly in her class. Her Quizzes are extra credit, and her tests contain minor details of her lectures.
I just did not like her at all
Professor Gezken *cough* Professor Gerard gives unclear assignments. She designs test to make you look and feel stupid, every answer looks correct, even with study its hard to be successful. She find any creativity to be wrong, in fact you seem to be graded higher if you use stereotypes... and I'm nearly certain she's quite ****
Tough teacher, set in ways, very friendly and helpful when visited during office hours. lecture notes very important..Definately get money's worth in her classes.
She was absolutely aweful! She was very unclear and changed what she wanted out of one paper from me three times. Then she had the nerve to tell me that she thought that I had ADHD. I dropped her class right after that.
As a person, I think she is great. She is very educated on history and knows her stuff BUT she just doesn't do a good job clarifying what she wants in her papers. Lectures were very scattered and off path.
This class was aweful for me. She was nice to me but very rude to others. She lost my outline for my big paper, so I had to make up another one at the last minute and got a bad grade on it (she did this to another girl too!) She makes it almost impossible to get an A. AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!
like someone already stated, everything you do is wrong. this teacher was soo bad that the class went from 23 students to 5, now what does that tell you?
nice person, hard to understand, bad teaching style, not clear instructions, recommend that you AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
This was one of my worst classes ever!!!!!!!! Honestly, I will be graduating this semester and I wished I would have just waited to take it in the summer with someone else. I handed in my first paper with her and she sent it back to me ten times and told me I didnt have enough citations (there were 83 intext citations) Save yourself, DO NOT TAKE!!!
I actually liked this class and I liked her as a teacher. She prepared me for a real university better than most teachers I have had. If you show up to her class and show her you really care about your grade and that you are trying your best then you will do fine. You have to work though! No excuses.
Just want to let everyone out there to avoid this class at all costs. Her notes are very confusing and jumbled, there's no order to her class, and it will be a miracle if you pass. Always had good grades until this class. Losing respect for OTC for allowing someone like this to teach. She's an embarresment to OTC and all it's students.
Knows he stuff, but very very very hard. If you want an easy grade, her classes are not for you. Wonderful lady.
she is a horrible teacher and what she lectures about isnt on the test, she cover pointless stuff and is hard to understand you would be better off having a monkey teach you
This teacher belongs in highschool and needs reprimanding. Her tests are needlessly difficult, and even if you read the chapter, study for her recomended 6-12 hours, you will still be very lucky to get a B. She doesn't say what she means. I.E. one time i got a bad grade and was told essay based on lecture, next time bad grade, told based on book
We were the first class to have her as the instructor. She teaches like she should. she expects the kids to learn what they should for class, and come to lecture to discuss it. she lets the class discuss what we read. her tests are very hard, but if you study you will be fine. i am a horrible student but i got a B+. talk to her and you'll be fine.
She loves her job and does a great job, but she does tend to have too much busy work.
Very hard to follow. She does not stick to the chapters regularly. She should teach an art class with all the crazy styles of notes she gives. Study the book like its your only way out and you might pass the class. Good luck literally.
???Everyone that has something good to say about her is either a female that didn't get treated like us guys or it's her rating herself. **** big time. This Class is all about women and blacks. She hates white males.EXTREMELY BORING!!!Unclear, false and misled information, she needs to go back to her country because she doesn't understand this one!
Dr. Gerard should not be a professor. She is passionate about history, but that is about all she has going for her. Her test are more focused on tricking you, not making sure you know the material, and the research paper process is just a mess. Avoid taking her at all costs.
Did not like this teacher at all! I really liked history before this, but she made it worse. She can be helpful only if you ask. Not a good teacher overall.
Avoid this instructor.
Extremely difficult. memorize the book. if you want help you have to ask. if you ask, she is a pushover. accent hard to understand at times. Nice outside of class, does center on groups of people not commonly discussed, i.e. african americans, women, etc. opinions of politics (past and present) are noted. Tests get harder and harder. Essay and m.c.
Do not take this teacher. She makes you create study cards, if you even copy one sentence from the book to study, she gives you a zero. Same on tests, even if you copy three words, a zero on test. She calls you out and is very rude. Says all her tests come from her notes, not true. Her notes are impossible to follow. AVOID this teacher.
Extremely Unfair, cannot keep up in class because she talks constantly and never slows
This teacher is the worst teacher i ever taken in the whole college i reccoment u not taken this teacher for this class
I am a 4.0 student prior to this class, I dropped her to maintain it. The term paper is what killed me, even if you write a good paper, if she decides you didn't use the book good enough you lose points. Tests are over the book which she doesn't lecture on. Half of each test is an essay over the lectures. Impossible A.
She is very tough, she grades your papers like a 500 level english course. Do not take if you can help it.
She was the hardest teacher I ever had. There is no way to get a good grade in her class.
She was extremely difficult. Her lecture notes were not on the test. She did not want you using your book at all. She never emails anyone back. I tried to get a hold of her several times and she did nothing about it. Term paper is awful she wont let you move on until you get a good grade on a previous step. DO NOT TAKE HER!!
She is crazy Do not take her I dont understand how she is still teaching here. I thought everybody would complain and she would of been gone by now
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. I have never failed a class. I had to drop bc I was 2 mins late to class and she made me sit and watch everyone else take test. Plus she wouldnt let me make it up! She also kicked a kid out bc his cell phone rang (quietly) in class. She told him to get out and if he didnt want to come back that was fine!!!
She is the worst teacher ever... do not take her, her teaching is really poor. no body really liked her at all in the class I was in
This lady should not be teaching! She claims to be fair and helpful, but she is not. I email her time after time asking her what it was that she wanted from an assignment that I (of course) failed, and still the next time around I'm failing for putting what she said I should go for the next time. She is inconsistent and impossible to deal with.
It's clear who's planning to move on to a university and who just wants an easy ride through school. This woman taught me how to write a good paper and how to really study. OTC is making new changes and easy teachers that give grades away are getting fired. She'll be here as long as she wants! I had her for 2 classes and would take her again!
I liked his untill I had her class. My Dad has a his major and he had to help me through everything and I still got a D. The class started with about 25-30 people and there where 4 people including myself remaining. Not clear on notes and the book is not helpful. Don't take her unless you are going into that field of work! Good luck!
More than likely if you don't understand this lady...it's because you are too stupid to comprehend anything at all and should just quit college all together....Gerard takes the boredom out of learning history...wish I would have had her in high school...she makes learning easy and fun....this lady gets a 10 from me....outstanding!!!
Horrible horrible teacher! Do NOTtake her unless you want to fail!
Her idea of helping you is giving you more assignments.I do not expect an easy A but a possible A is nice (I have a 4.0 after 50 cr. hrs)I dropped her because an A in her class will take an act of God. If you have a life of any kind you will not have time to take her class. The paper is impossible to complete with a good grade. HORRIBLE.
I have been doing okay in this class. I have gotten an A on my first two tests but that was only because I read the text. If you want an A you HAVE to read the text and take good notes. PERIOD! She was very helpful to me and I enjoyed this class, but I can see where everyone else is coming from. READ THE TEXT!!!
Worst teacher ever. Can't believe she's still teaching. I filed a grievance on her 3 years ago, no one listened, never heard a word. I could never get any communication from her via e-mail. I tried to listen closely in class, but could never understand her English. Tests or assignments are not lecture or text based. Impossible all I can say, avoid.
You have to go to every class, write everything she puts on the board, and everything she says. If you do that, you may end with a C, if you are lucky. I really hated the major paper she had us do, because she broke it down into steps that she would do if she were writing a paper. Most people do not write papers like that, but she doesn't care.
She is obsessed with Chinese people. If you mentionsomething about the Chinese you might pass
I dropped this class when she yelled at me in front of the class because she thought my voice recorder was a cell phone! Overall not a nice person and hard to work with! If you ask a question she likes to make you feel stupid as well. I retook this class from Butler and got an A. Take Butler instead!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER! This is one of the worst teachers i have had at OTC. I worked my butt off in this class and only got a C! In my class we started out with 15 people, and the final day, we ended up with 6, none of which got an A! If you take her, write EVERYTHING that she does on the board, and make sure you do the term paper correctly.
she was doing what she was supposed to do; she shouldn't hold your hand. I hated history but she made it interesting.if you don't care or know why you're in school and want a lazy class, you picked the wrong prof. students=lazy, teacher=just/fair!!along with mathew harris and prof.freeman(maths),she is the best teacher i've encountered at OTC truly

Big critique. Constantly critisizing everything you do. Never say the wrong answer in lecture! She should be an English teacher because every assignment requires huge writing and she picks it apart just like an English professor
She does not state homework assignments clearly. She criticizes everything. I took an at home quiz and when I summarize without plagiarizing from the book you are accused of using another source. When you use the book you are accused of plagiarizing. You will never be able to make her happy. There is a language barrier. If you take her expect a lot
If you get your schedule and you see her as your teacher, change it before it is too late. Save yourself your sanity and drop this class while you can. Worst teacher Ive had at OTC and will never take her again. Wish I wouldve read her reviews before taking her class. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!
Worst teacher Ive ever had. She isn't easy to understand, her notes don't make any since. And unless you say something about China you probably won't pass. Get out while you still can!!!
I dropped this class once she told me, "Let's think next time we speak, shall we?" after I had answered a question wrong in class. I will not tolerate being treated like an idiot in front of everyone, especially from someone who is supposed to be teaching me. If you have her, seriously consider switching teachers. You will regret it otherwise!!!
I had trouble in school for years until I took her class. She was the first teacher to actually challenge me and I got an A. Her lectures are fun and interesting. She teases a little but it's usually good natured. I ended up with a BS in engineering from Mizzou partly because of the habits or "skills" she taught me. Thank you Dr. Gerard.
I took an online class she taught. We had assignments but if you sounded too much like the book you were plagarising, no questions asked. I did not know the subject and learned it from the book since it was an online class, so of course my work was similar to the book. I had to "dumb down" my work so I could recieve credit.
I had his 120 over the summer with her and then took his 130 in the fall with her. I took 130 with her on purpose because I thought I knew her teaching style. The paper for 130 is ridiculous. I never want to see green ink again it turns my stomach.
I took a Reconstuction to the Present History class with Dr. Gerard and although the class is hard and requires a lot of work, she is a very helpful and understanding teaching. Not all college classes are "EASY" point blank!!! It requires extra time to read and study, but you will learn alot by the end of the semester!
I dropped her class when she marked my HW flash cards, incorrect for answering a problem correctly but adding a date to the answer. To me the book made it important enough I could need to know that information for the test. Then she marked parts of my paper wrong because I did not include her idea's and understanding of the material. STAY AWAY
If you leave 10-15 min early, or are late to class she will count you absent and not give you the homework assignments that she handed out in class. Her notes are horrible, scattered all over the board. She sends you emails telling you about new homework due the next day or that week as if it were an online course.
Extremely difficult! Left class 10mis early to roll up my windows due to rain, was counted absent! Exams are extremely hard! There are a lot of hard papers to write, her grading is very difficult and her notes are hard to understand. Would not reccomend this teacher.
Her notes are spiratic and although she says to study them for the exams, they have essentially nothing to do with the exams. She generally hops from one chapter to another as she pleases and her instructions are unclear. There is a difference between a good tough professor vs. one that does not relay the information well.
Was terrified of this class due to these comments. However, Dr. Gerard is one of the nicest, most helpful professors I have had. When over half the students complained about their grade for an exam she decided to drop the lowest test! Also, she allowed me to make up an exam when I got sick. She cares about her students but expects them to work :)
She stated we didn't have to use the book in one spot and we did in another. Her notes are only helpful in discussions and essay part of tests. She says we are on our honor for not using books/notes on an online test.
Mrs. Gerard is a very nice professor, and very understanding. But this is a harder level class, half of the reason because of the amount of work to be done. Essays with every test, homework quizzes, quizzes in class... I was stressed out! Take only if prepared to study/work!
She's very particular on what she wants on take home essays for tests. She won't tell you what she wants, you just have to assume what it is. Notes are very scattered and a lot of what i would study wouldn't appear on the actual test. Criticized our class for not reading books and said that's why we were a whole letter grade below her other class.
She was HORRIBLE!! Her notes were crazy, she took forever to grade assignments, and she was NOT understanding. She misplaced my assignment and then told me that I lost it. She then found it about 1 month later and I got full credit because it was perfect. I don't recommend her at all. You can try really hard and you still will probably receive a C.
Her lecture notes do not reflect what is on the test accurately. I would read through the book on occasion to help prepare for the test (although she clearly stated that she does not teach from the book). Her lectures are sporadic at best so it is hard to follow. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this TEACHER. Save yourself the trouble & take someone else!
This class was hard plain and simple. She has an accent but you either love it or leave it. She doesnt use the book much but she encourages great skills. if you think you are up for it then take her history class for a challenge.
She absolutely knows her stuff. She doesn't take not trying as an option, you get what you deserve. She really cares about her students and tries to help them in every way she can, even if this means moving a test or extending a due paper. But she is some what tough she expects you to know what's going on. Books only needed for extra credit on test
Bad teacher. Very scatterbrained on lectures. Told the class not to take the textbook for granted because does not always provide correct information. Do not take.
Gerard made me hate ALL history classes. She is so hateful, terrible teacher, and you could never keep up with her during classes. Everything is pinned on you. If she was not so hateful, better teacher; she would not be as bad. I had to drop the class with 3 WEEKS left, because how horrible she taught and mean she would act.
I only signed up on this website to rate this teacher. I will say the same thing as most people. She expects graduate level work in an undergraduate class. Tests do not reflect lectures or the book, which she constantly says is wrong. Lecture notes are all over the place and hard to follow anyway. She is rude and has no respect for privacy.
I felt completely blindsided coming into this class. I am an honor student, straight A, and I am struggling to make a B in this class. Her lectures are extremely scattered, and she doesn't use the textbook, which she says is "wrong". IF you take this class, I suggest printing off her online lecture notes and studying them EXTREMELY well.
The worst professor I have ever had. the class started with a full count and ended up with 6. Don't take my word for it read the other comments.
Would not ever recommend this teacher. Lectures are very long and nothing she talks about or goes over is on her tests. She is not helpful at all and absolutely shows no sympathy towards her students whatsoever. BEWARE OF THIS TEACHER.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. All of her tests are worded as follows: "This is all of the following EXCEPT:" She is not clear and EXTREMELY unorganized. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Gerard is passionate about what she teaches, which is awesome. She's super enthusiastic about her subject and is incredibly knowledgeable in her field. She makes you work for it, and in my opinion, that is how you learn! That's why you're in college. This is not a blow off class. If you put in the work, there's no reason not to get an A!
This class made me LOVE history! Dr. Gerard is SO passionate about what she teaches. Yes, this class may not be the easiest compared to other classes on campus, but if you're planning to transfer like I am, to a four year school, you should get used to professors challenging you like this.
If you dislike history, you will dislike it even more after her class. She isn't organized and somehow, it will be your fault that you didn't understand her lecture. Tests are impossible to ace.
Tough grader, gives very confusing feedback, tests are AWFUL, and she lectures after. However, Ms. Gerard does know what she's talking about, and with a LOT of hard work it would not be impossible to pass this class with an A.
Dr. Gerard is not the easiest history professor on campus, but she makes her expectations clear, and students who are willing to work hard can get an A or a B. Her class is challenging, but her grading of assignments and tests is fair and impartial. Dr. Gerard's lectures show she has great command of the material she teaches and enjoys her work.
Dr. Gerard is one of those teachers who is really into their subject and it shows. I still learned a great deal in the class even though I already have a lot of background in history. Her testing seemed more difficult than necessary, but in fairness she also seemed to be trying to tone it down based on feedback. Still, don't expect a free A.
Grades hard! Expects 500 level college work for community college students. She is understanding and will work with you the best she can if you talk to her. I will give her credit there. You must do beyond exceptional in her class in order to pass. She might talk you into this class by saying how easy it is, but fair warning the class isn't easy.
I took this class online because I work a lot and couldn't make it to campus. Big mistake. So much homework, 6-8 assignments due EVERY WEEK. She is brutal in her comments, that others can see, and she expects 500 level thinking for a 100 level class. I would pick a different teacher.
I had a hard time keeping up in this class. Lectures were long, and there were no hints as to what would be important to remember. Tests were AWFUL; 50 MC questions, 12 matching terms, and 2 full page essays every test. And she'd only give 50 minutes for a test, and lecture for the last 15 min of class. If you struggle with history, don't take her.
Awful, is all I can say! Her notes are confusing and all over the place. It's so hard to study them and really made it hard to prepare for the test. She accused me of plagiarisim when I clearly didn't and leaves awful feedback.
Her class is all lecture but you learn alot. Her tests are based on her notes in class. Homework quizzes each chapter. Very open door and willing to helping you succeed.
If you're just looking to give OTC your money in exchange for a degree, don't take Dr. Gerard. But if you want a taste of genuine academia then Dr. Gerard is perfect. She is a tough grader, but it's fair and meant to challenge you. She's responds and grades quickly, she's quirky and entertaining, and genuinely passionate and teaching and history.
She is honestly the worst teacher i have had. She grades way to harshly for such a basic class. The papers are way to specific for the amount she wants to be typed.
Her BB notes do not make sense when compared to her lecture. Tests were extremely confusing and long. Only allows 50 mins for tests (she claims they're "designed to be taken in 50 mins"). I never finished my tests and my hands were cramping. She told me I have a learning disability. After collecting tests she crams more info from next ch.
Very very hard grader, tests are ridiculous crazy. Gives so much information for the test study guide but doesn't really give you the information you need to know during lectures. Gives you book work but if you use any information from the book without making it sound like your own words she calls it plagiarism no matter what.
I will never take her class again. Worst experience of my life. I regret taking her class.
Worst teacher ever! Never gotten such bad grades. Does not teach well at all! Tough grading! If you like history take it with a different teacher!
When asked about my opinion on taking this teacher, I responded with a severe "DO NOT". That is my advice for everyone who wants to take a World History class, you will regret stepping into her classroom. She is a friendly and funny teacher, but her material is hard to wade through with a warship. Her study guides are useless.
Her standards are far beyond what you learn in her lessons, yet she explicitly states that if you use content outside of the textbook or her lecture she will fail you. But if you stick to exactly what you have been taught, she either says you didn't go into enough detail or accuses you of plagiarism, and either fails you or gives you a poor grade.
Very difficult instructor. Its kind of a shame because the information is very interesting but the instructor is very hard to make happy. Extremely harsh grading and a word of advice is the exams are ridiculously difficult. The first exam was 50 questions 46 or so multiple choice with a couple of long written answers and 1 essay worth 50% of grade.
I loved taking her class. Yes at first she rough but once you start communicating with her and if you are struggling she will assist you outside of class. Don't take her class and have no intentions to develop a relationship with her. You will succeed 10times more doing so. Highly encurage reaching out to any instructor before taking there class.
I thought Dr. Gerard was really great. She always responded to my emails, answered any questions I had, and worked with me really well considering I took this class while deployed. The class definitely required work, as most college courses do.
This teacher confused every person in this class multiple times each class period. I made it roughly 3 weeks in this class before dropping it and transferring into an online 8 week course that is double the work in half the time, and it is still easier than this class was. The grading criteria is insane and not what is taught and she is not helpful
She is a horrible teacher. She jumps around everywhere. 5 point quiz at the beginning of every class about the previous lecture. Very confusing. Dont take her classes unless you absolutely have too.
Gives 5 point quizzes every class and random assignments during class. Attendance is key, but the teacher isnt the greatest teacher Ive ever had
I love Dr. Gerard. She has an obvious passion for her subject. I am taking 5 classes this semester, and hers is the only one that feels college level. She grades tough, but take good notes, and show up to class and you will be fine. I would take another of her classes in a heartbeat. This is not an easy A class, but you will learn a bunch.
Willing to give notes you missed. She grades too hard. I understand college grading is harder than high school. But it should not be impossible to get a good grade. I study hard and try my hardest on papers, exams, and homework. Still mediocre grades at best. Tons of material on exams never discussed in class.
This is perhaps the worse teacher in the school. Her communication skills are poor and she has a high level of hostility that she takes out on the students in the way she grades essay questions. This teacher and class is a known flunk out class. Avoid this teacher at all costs.
Just overall OK. The class requires a lot of reading and very good notetaking. The instructor gives good feedback on all assignments. If you read, take good notes, study, you'll be fine, it's just a bit difficult.
It stinks when a teacher thinks their class is the only class, especially when the subject taught is to fulfill a general ed credit. General education requirements hold students back. Making the class extra "important" is not helpful to the success of the student, rather it is harmful and discouraging. It keeps students from studying what they want
Every class is a lecture and you are expected to take notes. Very inconsistent on how they grades. Switched test dates without letting class know. Often have to go out and find test material yourself.
Dr. Gerard was a horrible teacher. She has a correspondence doctorate, but she acts like it is from Harvard. She has strange ideas about history and her ideas are the only ones that count. The class was more like a graduate level class even though it was a freshman level course. Her essays were the worst, she only wanted to hear one set of ideas.
Would avoid this teacher at all costs. I love history, have never gotten less than an A and was very excited for this class. I had to drop in the first three weeks. Genuinely the worst teacher I have ever had.
I took this course because I love history and want to teach high school history. This teacher will make you hate it all. If you struggle, she we wave it off and not offer any help. If you question the structure of her class, she will target your grade. She does not care about her students or their success. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I love this Professor so much. She made it very entertaining and enjoyable.
