very nice, helpful teacher. her lectures are hard to understand. for chem 120 she is very hard, she makes you write report and wants you to know everything. super hard tests and most of it is not form the homework so you have to really study for the test from the book.

Ms. Harper was very very nice. She will help if you need it and don't be afraid to ask. Chemistry is an all around difficult subject for most with a lot of info to cover, so if you need help you just need to ask or get a tutor. I didn't have to try overly hard and got a B.

She is by far the best and most inspiring teacher i have ever had. She is a challenge but it is worth taking her class. She will help you if you try to make an effort. She is a total sweetheart. Highly recommended. she is the best chem teacher out there.

don't be fooled by the obnoxiously hard lecture tests. the class is tolerable when you make a conscious effort to learn the material. she's also really helpful when you ask her a question, and never ignores anyone she sees. her lectures can be confusing at times so only skimming through the book won't help. you have to read it thoroughly.

Great teacher, some of the tests were a little tough for me but thats because I sucked at math. Lecture can get boring but overall its a good class. oh yeah the lab work can be cumbersome.

WOW! She substituted for one session of my Small Assembly, and I learned more in that one class than I did all semester with the regular teacher. She explained everything so clearly, it made sense quickly (and I had been struggling). And she was so nice too!

I only had her for a week or two as a sub but I definitely learned more from her than my actual prof. She makes everything so clear and is so helpful and encouraging.

Count your blessings when you take her because there could be other "dry" professors in her place. Warning: the tests are not easy, but she gives partial credit.

Very clear on subject matter, could be more concise at times. She is a great lab instructor, in that she helps you understand whats happening in the labs rather than using the "cookbook" method. She also goes over problems in class so the mathematics is easy so long as you attend and pay attention. She also has a nice bum and it can be distracting.

Dr. Harper is awesome! She will answer just about any question fully, even if its completely random. She Never tells students they are wrong, just says something like "what else" and its kinda annoying. Tests are predictable with enough EC. She also gives EC if you put smilie faces on your tests! Recommended! (Better than Ismail)

I took her awhile back for 110 and she was crystal clear when explaining the material. She was NOT easy but she was fair. The only people that complain about her were the lazy students who didn't show up the last half of the semester.

Dr. Harper is an amazing instructor.I had Dr.Newman for 110 and her for 120 and my life is officially complete. Dr.Harper is very good in inorganic chem and she is willing to help those is need! Lectures took time getting used to,different than Newman's lectures,but she is just so crystal clear on every subject.Harper is well recommended.Take her!

Ms. Harper is amazing! There is a fair amount of work with labs and online hw but as long as you actually do your work you'll fair well. Harper is so sweet and is always available to help if you are having trouble. Strongly recommended even if chem isn't your best subject (as was the case with me).

I absolutely LOVED Ms. Harper. She was a wonderful instructor. Took her Chem 101 w/ Mr. Suri for lab. Class wasn't easy, but with LOTS of studying and questions asked, I passed with a final grade of an A. Students who don't plan on working for their grade may want to consider another instructor..

She is very clear and methodic, willing to help, and spends alot of time going around and answering people individualy. She is pretty cute for an older lady and has a nice butt. She is the best chem teacher at avc in my opinion. You put the work in and shell make sure you're going in the right direction.

Dr. Harper is a GREAT instructor. Those who are serious about Chemistry should take her because although she is difficult you will learn a heck of lot. This chemistry teacher made chemistry really, really simple whenever I went to her Small Assembly class. Also, when she substituted for the lecture class, her lectures were far more effective and clear.

Dr. Harper is simply one of those great teachers. She is so upbeat and smart it's as if you are learning from a genetic hybrid of all of the Disney princesses, Michael Faraday and Einstein. Seriously though she is super kind, but her standards are high so expect to work hard. This course covers a a lot of topics quickly. Go to office hours for help

Dr. Harper reminds me of a kindergarten teacher but in college with a cool subject! She is very helpful which is great because even the intro class is NOT a piece of cake! I recommend her (and Dr. Cooper for lab). Oh and there is no way around the books/online code required, all are used to the fullest.

Sweetest lady ever. Approachable. Always ask questions & use office hours, esp if u know ur gonna run into problems w homework. She's kind of a hard grader, but it's more like constructive criticism. She understands & accommodates if ur absent, but I DON'T recommend trying to play catch-up. She's overall awesome! I wish more teachers were like her.

This is not an easy class. You definitely have to study so make sure if you don't understand something get help right away. She is really sweet and she will try to help you if you need it. Dr. Harper is an AMAZING teacher! This was my THIRD time taking chem. I have had Dr. Hernandez, and Dr. Suri (wife). I Passed the third time with a C. Her grading is easy,the class is hard regardless of what teacher you take. Chem is hard. You have to go to class,study. I would take her again if I had to. But I passed! She so sweet and loves chem.

The only experience I had with Dr. Harper was her small assembly class. I had another professor for lecture & learned NOTHING in that professor's class & then would come to small assembly & literally understand everything. So I do not know how she tests, but the way she teaches is very straight forward and easy to understand. She is very helpful!

I enjoyed taking her class. This was my second time taking chem and she made it easy for the class to understand the material as long as you ask her in class, small assembly or via email. Just be proactive and you'll get the grade in her class. Also, beware she does not give a lot of extra credits so do the HW.

Dr Jessica is not easy ,but still caring , Chem 120 requires time and reading , go and ask question in office hours , she is very helpful. lecture and lab was not super enough for getting ready for test so do your own part she is great love her

Dr. Harper is super nice and was an incredible help. She made sure that if any one was confused that she helped to the point of complete understanding. She is very bubbly and caring, do the work and you will pass the class. She grades fairly and gives tons of feedback.

She'll help you understand the difficult concepts, but she won't just hand you a free A, you'll still need to put in effort and actually study. She's such a sweet professor, she has so much enthusiasm and charisma and really cares about her students learning. That being said, she is not an easy A. You only need 70% to get full credit for a skills quiz (41% of the grade) but they are hard and they really challenge you. But she is always willing to help and gives you chances to succeed.

Dr. Harper is a very kind and sweet woman. She is extremely helpful and forgiving towards her students. The class itself is tough and rigorous, so the best thing to do is see her during office hours to clear up any confusion. Also, go to her SI sessions and do the homework! I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Harper, however the class itself is difficult. The tests are hard. Labs are interesting and fun. Homework is online. Overall, this was a tough class but its not impossible. You will work for your grade.

jessica has a very mild disposition, but do not let that fool you because the severe nature of her test will wreck you. sometimes i think she uses her tests as a means to release her pent up aggression. you have to REALLY know ur stuff, especially how to apply what youve learn. also!! be thorough on ur labs because she will grade them thoroughly.

Professor Harper is a super sweet professor, who really wants to see you learn. If you participate, she gets really excited about helping you. That being said, Chemistry 120 is a hard class, no matter who's teaching it; don't expect an easy A. If you want to pass, do the hw twice before taking quizzes/tests. Go to office hours at least once a week.

She's really patient and explains things as many times as needed, so be sure to go to office hours. Do the online chem homework at least 2x before the quizzes and study guides 3x before tests, or you won't get an A. Be sure not to procrastinate; study at least 1.5 hours a day. The topics don't build off each other; study for each chapter separately

Professor Harper is the sweetest person and she really is there for you to succeed. Her teaching skills are great but Chemistry can get confusing, especially towards the end of the semester. She is very helpful and has a lot of office hours. I 100% recommend her for chemistry 101. 4 exams and homework assignments for each chapter. Solid choice.

Dr. Harper is amazing! The best professor I have taken at AVC. She is really caring towards her students and is really helpful when you have any questions. I've taken chem 101 and 120 with this professor and both times she was great. She always tries her best to make sure the students understand what she is teaching. She definitely makes you work for your grade as her tests and quizzes are pretty hard. Of course she always offers extra help for those who need it. I definitely recommend this professor.

Dr. Jessica Harper is an amazing lecturer and explains each concept/ calculation thoroughly. She is very engaging and encourages students to visit office hours for help. Her tests aren't too difficult if you review her PowerPoint and maybe work through the practice problems in the textbook! Very much enjoyed this class and don't fall behind :)!

One of my favorite professors I have ever taken! The course material is the usual difficulty for a chem class but she really tries her best to ensure you understand it. I would say attendance is mandatory for your sake of understanding what's happening in class but she's very caring and understanding. I recommend you take her class!

I took Professor Harper for 110 and 120 and she made chemistry as painless as possible. By the end of it all I actually found myself enjoying chemistry. I enjoyed class with Dr. Harper so much that I am getting emotional thinking about how I won't get to take a class with her again. Besides being a stellar professor, she is a joy to be around.

Great at what she teaches. If something is not understood, she is willing to explain everything down to the basics. No one is stopping you from putting in the effort by reading the book and going to office hours. The lectures were enough to pull a B, but the extra effort will bring you the A. What a delightful professor she was always super fun to make jokes with and tried her hardest to make sure everyone understood before moving forward in lab & lecture. Hello everyone! I recommend Dr Harper. She is caring and assists in any way she can. The power point notes help and if you read the chapters in the book you will recall what she taught. You do need to put in the hours of study time, like courses always recommend. Have fun and ask questions she enjoys the participation. Would take again if needed.

Professor Harper was an amazing teacher! I enjoyed her class very much. She can defintely be confusing in lecture at times, but I think its just her way of making sure she doesn't give any confusing/semi -false information. Chemistry is my most difficult subject, but taking her class helped a lot. She is patient and thoroughly explains the things taught in the lecture. There are quizzes between the tests which aren't too bad but the tests are a little difficult (they are a large part of the grade), study well and ask as many questions as you like.

Dr. Harper makes chemistry engaging and manageable. The quizzes and exams are challenging, but she provides excellent support. I found unstuck ai and the class textbook extremely helpful for studying. With dedication, an A is definitely achievable in this course.

It is a rigorous course, but a rewarding course. Dr. Harper breaks down concepts easily and is always open to individual questions. She is always available whether it's her office hours or by email. Dr. Harper was one of those professors you know you could rely on. She deeply cares for her students and has the patience of a saint. As long as you pay attention during lectures and take notes during class, you will get an easy A. She is a brutal grader but it is within reason.

Her tests are hard on conceptual, but you can tell its because she wants you to understand chemistry. She is the nicest professor I have had, and if you struggle she is incredibly open to you coming in for help. Lectures posted online, but you shouldn't miss a day cause they don't make much sense outside of class. She never makes you feel dumb.

It is impossible to fail this class if you show up, participate, and actually try. Participation matters. Buy the online access to the hw, it is way easier than the "free" canvas hw alternative. I took Prof. Harper for CHEM101, and I loved her! The hardest part about this class is the quizzes/exams as well as the concepts; however, Prof. Harper made it so enjoyable/easy to learn! She gives SO MUCH extra credit and is willing to sit with you for hours in her office and help you out with whatever you are struggling with. TAKE HER!
