I absolutely love her! She is so cute and funny and she really makes the class interesting. Take anything she is teaching! Her tests are very straightfoward and as long as you know the material you will do really well.
She's great - definitely take anything she is teaching. if you go to class and pay attention to her lectures, studying for tests takes like an hour and you will get an A. easy, but you still learn so much. take her :) she's adorable
TAKE HER! -Def. one of my favorite professors I've ever taken at JMU. Dr. Irons makes research methods very enjoyable Classes are interesting and fun. Her tests are very straightforward and extremely easy, yet you still learn a lot.
i kind of disliked how peppy she was, but maybe that's just me. i don't like being told to scream everyone morning how well i'm doing when i know that another painful hour and a half of the scientific method is in store. just saying. overall, tests were easy, extra credit, and she IS nice, but i think a little overbearing. oh well, that's how it is
Jessica is an amazing teacher and she is so enthusiastic about teaching--since when was that a bad thing? She rocks my socks and I would take any class with her! Awesome person in and out of class! :)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE her!!! she's super nice, funny, and so pretty! She tries to make her lectures as intersting as possible, so it is NOT painful to sit through. Her labs are really there to help you out and have study time! DEFINITLEY TAKE HER YOU WON'T REGRET IT, YOU WILL LOVE IT!
Jessica is amazing. She actually makes research methods fun and interesting. Take this class with her or you will regret it.
A Georgia Peach who can teach! But really, good class, really interesting. Knowledgeable & reasonable, tests are very straightforward.
This class itself is not very exciting, but Jessica makes it a lot better. She uses lots of in-class examples and you get to do a lot of practice in class. She is a great teacher and fun/helpful too. She really cares about her students which is awesome! The class is a lot of work (Especially lab) but Jessica is a great teacher to get!!
Amazing. That's all you need to know. Amazing professor and person, LOVED her. She makes things interesting even though the material itself can get dull. Simply amazing.
I like her. no complaints, she likes the material and likes her students. tests are doable and rarely uses the text book. she knows so much about research it's inspiring. totally take her if you are even thinking about research!!
I hated this class so much. Maybe just because it was a summer class, but it was entirely too much work and stressful. I don't know why the rest of these kids are so happy to have her. She's a nightmare. And her GA is TERRIBLE. Her tests were really poorly written, class material taught was random and unrelated...
Jessica Irons really has fun with research methods, however the only problem is that the material is EXTREMELY BORING AND REPETITIVE. She does make an honest effort to make it entertaining and I felt as though she did a good job of that. Again the class itself is not going to be too great, but at least with Jessica it is bearable.
Given that 211 is probably the dullest course in the major, Dr. Irons does pretty well at making it halfway decent. If you're taking 211, take it with Jessica.
Good professor. Jessica is cool and really helpful. The class moved really quickly and didn't go into the kind of depth I was hoping for, though. It's great for a basic overview, but if you love the topic it probably won't satisfy
Professor Irons is an excellent professor and is really passionate about what she teachers. Her exams are difficult and require that you keep up with reading the text and not only studying her lecture notes. She is a fair grader for an honors class and I definitely recommend!
Great professor, always willing to help, always gave helpful examples during class. Pay attention to what she says during lecture and pay attention to her "helpful hints", focus during the exam review, and complete assignments on time.
Jessica is an amazing instructor. She's engaging, knowledgeable, inspirational, and personable. Also, she had a super fine GA who proctored exams like a champ and made me excited for exam days.
Very enthusiastic and willing to help students. Lots of in class practice to really understand content. The only problem I had was unclear expectations for the research paper and not getting back grades promptly. Not an easy class but definitely manageable.
Not sure where all of these positive reviews are coming from. Very unclear expectations for all assignments. She is "sick" alot and doesn't email and tell you. The lab is taught by a GA, who I honestly learned more from than going to the lecture with Irons. Very poor experience. Take this class with someone else
She is my favorite professor thus far at JMU. She is very enthustiastic and interested in her students. Although the class may cover hard/confusing information she wants her students to excel, therefore is very helpful- she welcomes students into her office hours. I highly reccomend taking her class for the psych requirement
Jessica is a tough professor. This class is not one that you want to slack off in, but it is very doable. Attendance is mandatory in lab, but not in lecture, however she memorizes names so she will know you aren't there. The class is out of 1000 points, so there is room for error, but there are a lot of assignments.
She is upbeat & always happy but her class is a drag to go to. Hand cramps from copying down notes from beginning to end of class. The class is of 300 people so attendance is not taken but suggested cause the tests are extremely difficult. No HW except online quizzes on your own time No laptops allowed and very strict with phones. I hate this class
Pros: She's very excited and can make psych interesting during her lectures. Even in a class of 300, she manages to project her voice and captivate an audience. Quizzes on our own time are grade boosters. Also, always lets class out 25 minutes early. Cons: Very hard exams-all cumulative and need to know stuff from the book. Very hard for a gen ed
SHE IS HARD. Have to take many online quizzes on your own. Have to participate in some kind of research thing.. only 2 tests and a final.. Attendance is not mandatory but there are pop quizzes in class. Tests are very hard. If I were you I would NOT TAKE HER.
This class is not easy. There is a lot of information and some on your own learning. You have to really study for tests if you want a good grade. That being said, this was probably my favorite gen ed class. Jessica makes it interesting, she's funny and it's really easy to stay engaged when she is lecturing. Definitely recommend her!
Jessica is so funny and nice. Her lectures are fun and its hard to be bored. She always makes jokes and has interesting stuff on the slides. The tests are hard and there is a lot of homework modules and most of that material is not even on the tests.
i love jessica. She doesn't mess around but she does a great job to make her lectures interesting for her students. 16 quizzes online and open note and only three tests study and you'll be fine. Not to mention she is super hot.
She is really good at making the lecture interesting. She does in class activities. Her exams are all cumulative, but that honestly makes it easier when you study because you already know it. Class isn't mandatory, but she does act's in class you want credit for. 16 modules quizzes outside of class, but they are open book. Would take again.
The class is MUCH HARDER than it has to be. She doesn't take attendance so skipping class is easy but if you skip you fail. She gives three tests all cumulative and are impossible- the class average is typically a low 70 to mid 70 and she does not curve grades. Irons does not give B+ C+ etc only B- B etc it screws your grade majorly. DO NOT TAKE
Jessica moves through the information really quickly which makes the class difficult. She tries to keep the lectures interesting and we usually get out early. There are 2 tests and the final which are cumulative and pretty difficult but not awful if you study. There is no homework which is great. Would recommend.
I loved Jessica. She's very informal, her lectures are always engaging and interesting despite being a huge class. In my opinion the tests weren't hard and the outside work was a lot of reading but open note, so an easy grade. Also, for my class she always finished lecturing early and let us go - I don't think we ever stayed the whole 75 minutes.
Taking here class is awful. Going to class is useless since she copies definitions from the book onto a powerpoint. Tests are difficult to pass, but mastery quizzes (online quizzes) help out if done. She treats the syllabus as the U.S. Constitution. She also does not give and plus grades, but gives negative grades (ex: A, A-, B, B-, C, C-, D, F).
I don't know why people would give her bad ratings..I honestly thought she was an awesome professor. Very funny, always let class out early and had very engaging lectures. Tests were tough, which I guess might have scared some freshmen, but there were plenty of grade boosters outside of them. Makes you work for your grade but rewarding in the end.
I loved having Irons as my professor! She's funny and very straight forward. She let us out of class early a lot. You also have to complete 16 online quizzes based on the textbook by the end of the semester. She does give you days off to work on them though. Tests are a little hard, but not too bad. I would 100% recommend her for this course.
Class is useless, with the powerpoints and book you can easily cram for tests two days prior. She also doesn't allow computers in class making it that much more useless to spend an hour sitting in her lecture. Poor email responses and often wont respond. Very slow on displaying grades. With a little studying you can pull a B.
This usually a massive class so there is but only so much she can do to help the online quizzes are fairly easy but you do have to pay attention in class and study to do well on the tree test. all in all its an easy b
Lectures are interesting, lots of note taking, but participation isn't all the necessary. Her tests are very hard, lots of example based. Half of your grades are also from online quizzes that you have to read from the textbook, but nothing too hard.
Jessica is an awesome professor and gives interesting lectures. She always gives relevant examples that help understand the material. Class always begins with someone telling a one line joke. There are mastery quizzes you take online that really help your grade and there is one test, the midterm and final. I ended up getting an A-
This is an easy A as long as you do everything you have to do. She always ends class early and puts up the PowerPoints from her lectures so you can go back and review. Did somewhat well on the midterm and final with very little studying so you should be fine.
Irons does not know how to teach students who are taking a class just for a gen ed requirement. She makes tests unreasonably hard even when you study for a few hours and go to class. She has 16 quizzes that you can google the answers too that counter acts bad test grades, but her grading scale hurts you the most. C-, C, B-, B, A- A etc no pluses
Pointless to go to class. Not very difficult if you do all the assignments out of class. Tests are all cumulative. No + grades only B, B- etc.
I loved Jessica! She is such a sweet lady and she really knows her stuff. The three tests are kind of difficult but I was willing to study for them because the material was very interesting. Hard A, easy B.
I took psych in high school and this class wasn't too bad. Tests are harder than you think, you need to study for sure. Mastery quizzes are a huge part of your grade, do them early in the semester and then you won't have any work for this class besides the tests. Funny lady and always lets class out at least 15 mins early. Good gened, easy B hard A
I love Jessica! She is so kind and an excellent teacher! If you pay attention to the lectures, it is not a hard class. Material is super interesting. Don't let the mastery quizzes scare you; I really enjoyed them!
She is an amazing professor. She is very clear in her lectures and make the content interesting. There are 3 tests all cumulative but if you study you will be fine. No outside homework except 16 mastery quizzes that have to be completed by the end of the semester. Let us out of class 15 minutes early almost every single time. Sweet, funny, love her
I really liked Jessica. She has a very upbeatpositive personality. Her class was kinda rough though just because all tests are cumulative but the good this is that there are only 3. If you read the textbook and go through the slides (she posts them online when she's finished with them), then you'll be fine.
Absolutely loved this class. Jessica is young and very relatable. She relies heavily on the syllabus and does not give extra credit. The material is taught in a very sequential way and it very clear. She is well educated and makes the class very interesting. I would definitely recommend Jessica to anyone needing to take PSYCH 101!
Jessica is a very energetic and interesting professor! Class got at least 15 min early 85% of the time. With effort you can get an A, with little effort B. 3 exams (one of them is your final), a research engagement ,and most of your points come from Online Mastery Quizzes. You take 16 online quizzes get at least an 88% and get full credit.
She's so sweet, funny, & cool! Has the cutest southern accent. It's a huge lecture class, but she keeps it so fun and interesting and easy to follow. Tests are cumulative, but they're not too bad if you study. She always ends class early and treats the syllabus like it's law. SONA research isn't that bad and there are a lot of easy online quizzes.
The lectures are huge and you don't have to go, but she does keep it very interesting and they help a ton! The only trouble I had with this class were the cumulative tests. Besides that, the rest of the class is very easy and interesting. The online quizzes are easy and you can get the research requirements over with quickly
Jessica was awesome. By far my favorite professor I have had at JMU. It was a 300 person lecture but her lectures were always very interesting and kept your attention. You definitely need to read and study for her tests but to a very reasonable degree. I highly recommend her because you can tell she is truly passionate about her teaching.
Really enjoyed Professor Irons class. Was expecting this class to be very dry and boring, considering it's a research methods class. However, Jessica made the information very relatable and interesting. I always received constructive feedback on papers and assignments. She is a little intimidating at first but she is very helpful and funny.
She's awesome! Really good teacher, explains everything very well. I expected this class to be boring but her lectures are not bad at all. She's funny and very helpful if you ask for help. Long research paper due in this class, but the way she has it structured, you can easily get an A for the paper if you do exactly what she says. Take her for 211
Jessica is super sweet and is willing to help you with whatever you need. She truly cares! However, the exams are tough. Most people are there at least 20-30 minutes after class ends still trying to finish the test. Its not an easy A. The writing assignments also take a lot of time.
Jessica is awesome. She makes psychology even more fun to learn about and makes it easy to get a good grade if you work for it. There are many online quizzes but you can take them until you get a 100%, as long as you take the time to do them they will only hep your grade.
Such a horrible Professor. She said there was a problem with my final exam, but never got back to me about it. I ended up failing the class despite having a B average all semester. Can't believe JMU would hire such a horrid teacher. Many people felt the same. Avoid if you can, would never recommend. Leave JMU Irons.
she filled in one day for my teacher all i wanted to say is i love her accent and she's hot don't know if she's a good teacher
Don't even know where to begin. Terrible teacher, AVOID at all costs.
If you have the chance to choose your psyc211 Prof., 100% choose Jessica. She knows what she is doing and you will truly learn more material with her. She's a tough grader but that is only to help you out later in life. She also understands that life happens and is willing to work with you outside of class. By far one of the best prof at JMU.
I would recommend a different professor for PSYC 211.
Ive never rated a professor before, but i feel the need to after reading these comments about jessica. She is an AMAZING professor. she can be very stern at times but she is so understanding. her class is tough but if you pay attention in class you and put in a little effort youll be fine. I totally recommend jessica, youll learn a ton.
I don't know why everyone is hating on Jessica. Yes her class is tough, but if you take 211 with her you will learn so much! She is extremely passionate, knowledgable and truly wants to help each student succeed. If you are struggling with the material, reach out to her! Keep up with the material and you will be fine!!
Jessica is great! She is so enthusiastic, funny, and relatable. It is sometimes difficult to get her to respond to emails, but she is super helpful in person. Reach out to her if you have questions because she is willing to help you. I would recommend taking Jessica and hope I can take her for another class.
this class was so annoying. tests were hard and she went through the info too fast in class. she was super sweet but not the best professor. mastery quizzes are the biggest waste of your time and all the answers are on google. if you have no interest in psych and are just taking as a gen ed find a different prof.
Jessica cares about her students. Makes herself available. Tried to make sure we understand the material before moving on. If you dont understand just go to her office hours and shell work with you on it.
Jessica is an amazing professor and she really does care about her students succeeding. That being said, you definitely have to work for your grade in this course. I really like the way she structured this course though, with all of the material and textbook learning the first chunk of the semester& writing APA papers the second chunk. Great prof!!
Jessica was pretty decent. She knows what she's talking about but tends to go on the faster side of things so it can be hard to keep up with her and she also teaches some things that aren't in the textbook, but you still have to read it. Mastery quizzes are a waste of time but help so much to boost your grade if you don't do well on exams.
Jessica taught the class in a fun and interesting way. She responds to emails in a timely manner, and is available when you need her. Her GA teaches the lab portion of the class. There are 3 tests the first half of the class. The second half is spent writing an APA paper, and project proposal. Would take her again.
Take Jessica if you want to LEARN because she is 100% an expert/wicked smart and super cool. She goes by Jessica and keeps a relaxed, comfortable, engaged classroom setting. However, Jessica is a terribly hard grader and does not use +'s.... don't take this class for good GPA- take her if you want to fully understand material and work hard.
Jessica is super funny, cares about her students, and is always willing to help. She thoroughly enjoys teaching this class and hopes her students enjoy the material by the end. She wants her students to succeed, so if you are ever confused stop by her office. She can't help you if you don't ask. Would highly recommend taking Jessica for this class.
One of the best professors I have had. She is very kind and understanding, but simultaneously very tough. She wants to make sure you actually understand the material, even if she has to force it into your head. You will have to work very hard, but in the end, it will be worth it.
I really enjoyed Jessica's class. She can come off as intimidating, but she's actually just loud. She does expect quality work from everyone, so you can't slack off but as long as you put in the effort, you'll be fine. Not too tough of a grader and will give points back/give second chances when it's fair. Sometimes her criteria is a little vague.
Jessica is a nice lady but very strict and intimidating at times. She really makes you work for your grade. Exams and the APA paper are very heavy on grades so definitely be on top of those. Overall, I personally found this class very boring but my classmates enjoyed it
If this helps, I currently have an A and have never had to work so hard for it.. There is not a day that goes by that I don't have to do something for her class. Yeah she can be nice, but she's also very extra and it feels as if she doesn't care that we have other classes. I came home from her class stressed a lot. Theres easier/less heavy options!
jessica is nice, but she is intense. be ready to do work for her every single day. attendance isnt mandatory, but if you skip you will suffer. if your phone goes off in class she will take off points, so turn it off and keep it out of sight. the worst part of her class is the beginning, so as long as you can get through that youll be fine
let me help you, avoid
READ EVERYTHING ON THE SYLLABUS. You are held to very high expectations. I have never worked so hard for a grade in my life. There are other less stressful options. She is a very knowledgable professor though.
Avoid her, do yourself a favor and take someone else for 211. She's very abrasive, a tough grader, doesn't give +'s so if you have an 88 you still get a B. I spent so much time on this class to still bring down my GPA and she doesn't take into account that we have other classes as well as hers. The APA paper is also graded ridiculously hard.
Jessica is an amazing professor. She really cares for her students and works with people who are having a hard time. She is one of the best professors I've had the chance to take. With that said, she does make you work for your grade. not an amazingly easy class if you are not willing to put in the work. if you work hard though its not that hard.
Jessica is one of the sweetest and best professors and JMU! She cares deeply about all of her students and really cares about what is going on in your life. Her class is challenging but if you do the work and put effort into it then you will do well. Submit drafts! She will give feedback! Do whatever you can to take her classes!
Jessica really cares that we understand the material. It isn't easy, but I definitely would take this class with her again. You have to put in the work, but trust me it is not bad. I am glad I took her!
Jessica is an awesome and funny professor, but her class is rough. For starters you cannot take notes on any device, a pen and a notebook are your best friends. She not the best at explaining so you will gave to do a lot of reading and ask a lot of questions as this is not an easy class.
Jessica is very knowledgable, but her class is intense. It is usual for me to earn A's with minimal effort, but this class was *not* an automatic A. She does not do pluses, and an "A" is a 95% as opposed to 92/93%. Nonetheless, I was able to learn & retain a lot from her class, and would recommend her if you're a hard worker seeking academic rigor.
I worked HARD to get the grade I got but this class was BAD. The lectures were fast-paced and heavy. The tests were way too difficult. The breakdown of the sem. made no sense, lectures/tests first half of the sem. & research second. The worst was that the professor is kind of rude and you can't ask her questions without feeling talked down to.
4 weeks into class and 10 points taken off final grade from phone or ipad buzzing during class, mind you, the class does not care, it's nothing but a power trip. assignments come with pages of instructions and if you fail to adhere to even one of the guidelines prepare to get a zero. i love psych but this class is making me consider dropping.
