She is very nice and is willing to give anyone a chance. Her lack of preparation seems to be what gives her a unique teaching quality.
She was very unhelpful and not understanding about a circumstance beyond my control.
Dr. Jopp is a very nice lady and is able to compromise with her students however she is very unclear with what she expects out of papers and you also have to read two books that are awful.
ms. jopp is not your traditional professor, she is very excentric about her ways of teaching and i kinda hard to follow, but it was not super hard but just difficult, avoid taking her if possible
Work load not so bad. Accepts NOTHING late. She's a policy Nazi, but will make exceptions for a select few. Goes out of her way to screw you over, "by the way if you didn't score this high... you get a zero, (as she's handing back your test). AVOID!!!
Did not cover the whole syllabus. I am an english major and she made me not want to stay in the field. She makes small assignments worth major points.
She is a wonderful professor. Your assignments involve writing, but it's nothing big. Read the books and you will do fine. Her class is awesome
The class was more open forum discussion than writing. An interesting class but a total waste in terms of learning ANYTHING at all about writing. She is a super feminist who will randomly push her****rights adgenda. Dont plan on learning much.
I had her spring 03 which was her first at SRU, and she was awesome. The class was pretty easy and she was really nice. Class projects were fun and she even asked us what grade we thought we deserved on the final project..then gave it to us!
Great Teacher.. She does go a little overboard with class discussions, especially this year with the election. Sometimes I think that's all we talked about. She's very liberal and you can tell cause we have to read a Zinn book. Didn't buy any books for her class. Did fine. Easy CW2 class!
awful grading scale, does not teach, makes midterm very unfair, if you fail a test or quiz u get an automatic 0, even if u get a 59%, thats an F so you get a 0%. So you go from a 59% to a 0%.
You read assignments, and then have a class discussion about them. No teaching involved. And the whole F=0% is crazy.

Yuck! She was a liberal feminist who did not believe in anything religious, and if you did, you were totally wrong. If you are a conservative, watch out! Also, don't say anything against gays, because she will defenitely get fired up! In short, just be a liberal, atheist, lesbian and you'll do fine.
It wasn't too bad...she does like her opinion and that's it...but if you just stay mellow throughout the whole class you'll do fine. I suggest making up things for the essays though...she seems to like that better than real events. (make them believeable though)
I greatly suggest not taking Jopp for anything. All of your tests are writing out definitions and essays and if you think you did good--you def. didn't because she marks everything wrong. She's absolutely crazy..and she she thinks her class is the only one you have. don't take her.
She was a teacher who loves people to particapate. She had her favorites. She grades portfolio's hard

WORST TEACHER EVER

Prof Jopp is "liberal" only compared to close minded ppl. who believe evrything they have been taught as kids. Grow up! This Prof. is trying to teach you something. She is demanding but helpful. If you don't like her maybe you belong in HS
She's rude. She singles people out. She grades ridiculously hard. She has her opinion and thats all that matters. She claims she'll help you but when you try to get help she avoids the question you asked, probably because she doesnt know the answer. I hated her. Dont take her.
When you ask her for help, she says it's in the book, well that may be, but would you explain it to me? She wouldn't help with that. About going back to HS, gladly! My high school teachers taught me more about writing than she EVER could.

Jopp is awesome, if you get to know her and listen to her in class, shes good. She can really teach you something if you open up and listen. Shes a little hard but she will prepare you for work in the future. Great Professor.
jopp is a very liberal woman. my first day of class i was extremely intimidated, but overall the class wasn't that bad. if you go to her office hours, she is very willing to help you with your papers. just make sure you do all of your work and read the assigned books and you should do fine.

i dont know what wrong with these ppl but she was a very good teacher..she doesnt grade ur work right away but gives you back to improve. the class was interesting, if u dont read assigned topics then you will not understand what is being discussed in class to the full extent. you should be lucky to have her!
i heard she was fired which serves her right because she sucked big time god i hated her she was the most biased teacher ever and didnt give a crap about certain peoples opinions never take her
She is not clear with what she wants. Her paper rubrics for papers are barely anything and her midterm and final was nothing like she said it was going to be.
Prof. Jopp gives you five essays, and a group research project throughout the semester. My classmates and I say if you get stuck with a B, you could either go lower or stay on that grade. I stayed neutral with my grade. Plus, the textbook is required because all we do is discuss and read everyday, get an essay, rinse and repeat. I would recommend.
She is one of my favorite professors. Her class is pretty easy if you take the effort to read the textbook. She assigns a lot of essays but also a lot of time to work on each one. If you bring your essay to the writing center then you should get an A every time. She is not a hard grader and makes it clear what she is looking for in your work.
Lets just say she should pick a new profession.
She grades the tests ridiculously hard because it is either all credit or no credit. She sometimes will give half credit on a question if you're lucky. She is really annoying, controlling, and very rude at best. She believes this class is the most important and only class people have a semester and it really is pointless with her teaching it.
Dr. Jopp is a very liberal woman and the majority of the class is based around her views. Other than that, she is always willing to help students and organizes her classes extremely well. Dr. Jopp is great.
Shes incredibly rude! She grades way too hard and its her own scale. I had the same answer as my friend on a test and she marked mine wrong and his correct. If she doesnt like you, it reflects in your grade.
if youre not a good essay writer, you absolutely will not pass without meeting with prof. Jopp AND visiting the writing center. if youre a student with a B, you will either fail or pass. At the end of the year, the final essay is worth 20% of your grade. If you cite your final essay incorrectly, shell fail the essay, you will fail the class.
Id rather drop out if college then take her again
Actually cares about you learning stuff which is why she can be difficult for lazy people.
I loved Dr. Jopp's class. I had her for Critical writing and enjoyed the class very much. All you have to do is speak up during class and she will have respect for you. She is there to help you and answer any questions you may have. The essay's are very easy and the readings aren't too long and quite enjoyable. I still use the book as a reference.
My biggest stipulation with this professor was that 9/10 I had no clue what we were even assigned because we just got thrown a quarter slice of paper with the guidelines to our paper that we were expected to understand. I have taken many writing classes before and enjoyed overachieving but in this class I found it very hard. Also doesn't use D2L...
She does not explain anything on what you have to do and then grades on the things that she wants you to do but doesnt tell u about it. Her grading is horrible and hard to get an A. If I was you and that was your last class to take and it was her u better run
gave me 0 credit just because it wasnt her exact guide lines. all teachers no matter how bad you do they would at least give you partial credit for at least attempting the homework. Not her, she doesnt not deserve to teach at a university and should just retire already. Horrible grader and makes students calculate their own grades. Thts her job
Don't think about bringing out your phone. Multiple readings assigned each day and get ready to speak all about it the next class. There's no way around it. Avoid Jopp at all costs.
Prof. Jopp is a real gem. She is sweet and understanding. Eng102 was the easiest English I've had since 9th grade after taking APs in HS. Homework is not too crazy, just typical reading. You write maybe 1-3 normal essays and 1 research throughout the course with a few other assignments. Just make sure to speak up in class.
I have had Professor Jopp for my first two semesters at SRU. I loved the class and the readings were interesting and made the journals, papers and discussions easier. Keep up on the readings and stay in touch with Professor Jopp and you'll learn great things from her. One of my favorite professors by far! She's clear with grading and feedback.
Very tough grading
very difficult grader if it is not in her exact words
For Critical Reading, she is somewhat of a tough grader. Attendance does matter, do not miss more than 2 class periods, there is no excuses. You must participate daily or else you will have a poor participation grade. Overall, the class isn't awful, it is just a bore and a lot of outside reading time.
pos: - Class is very open and discussion heavy - Will help at office hours neg: - Test heavy - Lots of reading - Repetitive class style, did the same thing every class - Class is somewhat hard to understand - Would not take again - A or B grade will be tough to accomplish, but good luck on the course if you have her
I would highly recommend taking alot of notes and going to office hours it would help you alot. Good Luck if you have it.
Professor Jopp's classes are really easy as long as you pay attention and attend class. I've had her twice now and haven't regretted it one bit.
I had Professor Jopp for Critical Writing in my freshman year. It was one of my first classes and she was very kind, helpful, and available outside of class. You have journals to write on each article you read, but they are not difficult if you keep up with the readings and urges you to participate in group discussions.
I had Jopp for ENGL102 and 104 and i loved her! lots of class discussion so come prepared
The hardest assignments in this class will take very long and be worth not even 10% of your final grade. ATTENDANCE IS WORTH MORE. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!!! Class discussions are one sided and you cannot speak your opinion. If you get stuck with her, just nod your head when she talks.
Absolutely hated her, she would be 2 faced with different students, attendance and participation are more important than anything else, If you're an athlete/football player she will find every way to make it so you don't pass her class and her reasoning wouldn't make sense I would not recommend taking her at all and would avoid it at all costs
Dr.Jopp shines when she's teaching a class that she WANTS to teach. She was so encouraging and supportive of classmate's creative works. She seemed to see us as fellow writers, not just "her students." She takes the time to catch up with you post-having her class and is always willing to read your stuff. She doesn't keep a gradebook online though.
Very old school
This professor relies heavily on your attendance rather than what the student shows through their work. She is very unlikely to let you have your opinion. I recommend not skipping many classes, none at all if you can or your grade suffers. Overall, just come to class and take notes.
Jessica Jopp is one of the exact reasons I hate english and reading. She needs to read books from this century. Does not teach at all just walks around while students discuss.
She failed me because I didn't participate enough. Be careful because if your wording is weird, she will think it is from an outside source and give you a no credit. I would not take this class if I was offered 1 million dollars. Whatever you do, drop her class to get a different professor because you will not enjoy Jopp.
She was terrible. Gave no credit and bad grades. Rubric is very vague and grades on what she wants. I would suggest choosing another professor. You couldn't pay me to take her class again.
Her class was the biggest waste of time. She only talked about her opinion on the readings but asked others to participate in the discussion and would say that's not what she was looking for. If you're a straight-A student, avoid this professor because she rarely ever gives out A's, and she will make up nonsense reasons of why you didn't get an A.
worst professor i have ever had.
if your in the class get ready to read because if you miss one reading she will fail you instantly
She's the worst and the meanest professor I have ever met
If you have her, good luck
She has no sense of humility! She is very rude to so many students I WOULD NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS AGAIN!
she's so rude to everyone for one time I send her an email asking about an assignment she said it was in d2l and it wasn't she didn't even explain what was the assignment about the worst professor I ever had
She did not explain anything and did not give clear instructions. She would blame me for things I didn't do and get mad when she was the one who didn't explain. She also didn't assign work or give guidance, making it hard to learn.
someone in the comments said she was grate I'm pretty sure that's her from her second account. I don't even know why the college hasn't fired her yet
AWFUL. SHOULD BE FIRED
Do not take her critical reading class TRUST ME DON'T
If this woman has any good reviews she put them there herself. Had her for critical writing my first semester and she made me want to drop out every day. Only had us do 4 essays which meant you had to do great on them which is impossible this woman is incapable of giving out and A. I have no idea how this woman has not been fired she is very mean.
hard grader and offers little to no help on assignments. she will say its all win her syllabus when it never was.....
She is one of my favorite profs. As long as you keep up with the journals and readings you will be fine. participation and attendance is very important, this is most likely becuase the class style is an open discussion.
Jimjdjeueusjsbsbdbd
Do not take Dr. Jopp in my whole life this has been the worst teacher I have had. She will act like you're dumb if you don't know the answer. She is only nice to smart people
If you really want to get a good grade in this class you gotta really participate and show up to every class. I've heard from people if you miss at least 3 classes you automatically get a NC. She is a really picky grader especially with her journal entries. Even when you try and ask for help she doesn't really care.
The worst professor at SRU, should be fired.
there's a lot of reading but sparknotes will tell you everything you need to pass the tests which are incredibly easy there's one paper that she's required to do but she didnt grade the paper harshly idk of anyone who got below a b on the paper the books all together was like $100 i say spark notes everything but the textbook get the textbook
