If you have to take accounting I wouldn't look any further than Mrs. Lewis. She is super nice and reasonable and gives multiple extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. There is homework every couple weeks and it's relatively easy, she gives study guides to all her tests, and her tests aren't set up to trick you. TAKE HER IF U CAN!!
Easily my favorite professor. Professional and informative, but also extremely down to earth and can explain things in a cohesive manner. I used to think accounting was some boring topic (which in some respects in can be) but taking her introductory accounting course really made me more open to accounting as a career option.
I love professor Lewis. I would recommend her to anyone!! The lectures are not the most entertaining things ever, but you get the information that's important. The first test is weighted a little less so you can adjust to the learning curve! There's online reading quizzes and homework for each chapter that can help from your grade up.
Professor Lewis is just a professor that gets its right. She is such a breath of fresh air in the accounting department. She understands that learning the concepts of accounting is a team effort and it shouldn't just be left up to the student to struggle and figure things out on their own.
I took this class online in a 3-week accelerated course and Professor Lewis really tries to teach you about managerial accounting. Homework and discussions are big part of your grade and she gives extra credit for doing practice exams. Exams are open notes and she responds quickly to any questions you have. Great professor for accounting!
I took Jessica Lewis because I saw she had great ratings. Unfortunately, I did not feel this class was very forgiving. On our first exam, many students failed it and she had to give a 35 point curve. Her exams are nothing like her lectures, I attended every class and took notes and still struggled.
Very nice lady but not the best professor. Kinda rambles in lectures and loses focus. Homework does not really correlate to tests. However, she does give some extra credit points which is nice.
Don't get me wrong, accounting 226 is a hard class. But prof Lewis does her best to help you understand the material. She's very approachable and always willing to work with you one on one. Highly recommend
She is a very nice person, but her style of teaching did not feel engaging. She would often stop mid lecture to answer questions, and it would break the flow of the explanation. I believe if she pre-recorded it would be more effective. Sometimes the way she explained things didn't make sense, and I would just model after examples.
Professor Lewis is super nice and approachable towards her students. If you attend the lectures (live on BB collaborate or in general) you should do well, because she'll do a lot of practice examples. Study harder than you think but for the most part not too difficult.
Mrs Lewis is a super nice lady! She made online learning for Managerial Accounting a lot more bearable. This is not an easy class so you have to work for your grade, so dont expect her to pass you cause thats not her job. She went over every test with me so see what I did wrong. Just make sure to take good notes, study, and practice a lot.
You can really tell professor lewis wants you to succeed, even if managerial accounting is a tough class. Definitely not an easy class but she is very helpful and is always willing to help you learn the material. Very kind and helpful professor.
This class is challenging but the teacher really does care about the students! There is no graded homework, the quizzes are open notes, and there are 3 tests. Overall great teacher and great class I would just like some grades homework to help out my grade a little!
This professor is phenomenal. Always eager to help with certain problems and she really knows the material. By far my favorite and best professor I have had so far at college. This class and material is just tough in general. Be ready to work hard and practice but know Professor Lewis is always there if you need her.
Prof Lewis is my favorite teacher that I have had so far at DMSB. I will say her class is not easy but she will meet with you and help you understand where you went wrong. Given COVID, this is the only class I felt like I have learned in all year. 100% have to work for your grade but she wants you to do well. Hard class but a great instructor.
ACCT is hard in itself so it's not her fault that her class is hard. She's an amazing professor and teaches the material very well. She has print out notes that follow her lectures and you get unlimited attempts on the homework. You have to study. The exams are hard and webcamed but if you're dedicated you'll be fine. She's the best for this class.
The sweetest human. Class is content heavy, but that is just acct226. she answers your questions and wants everyone to do well. read the textbook and pay attention.
Prof. Lewis is extremely nice and understanding. She explains things well and you will be absolutely fine if you just pay attention. Our exams were all multiple choice and she builds extra credit into the syllabus. I took the honors section and the project wasn't bad at all.
Accounting is a difficult subject, but Lewis does a great job of making the lectures understandable and interesting. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. Definitely take her if you're able to! 10/10 would recommend!
Nice person but they make this class difficult. She gives opportunity for extra credit and participation
Professor Lewis is very nice and seems like a great lady, however she speeds through lectures and doesn't do a good job at answering peoples questions. She seems to care more about getting through the notes in class than making sure her students actually understand the material. The tests and quizzes are also fairly hard.
I love her. Made 402 easy. Homework was not graded but she always went over it in class so I was fine not doing it. Graded on exams and there was extra credit at the end of the semester. I forgot to do it and had an 89 and she bumped my grade up to an A. I found the exams easy and I usually do not do this well in 400+ level accounting (my major)
Good professor, lectures are boring but pay attention when she goes through problems it will help you on homework, quizzes, tests. Be ready for respondus!! On every quiz and every test! ask for extra credit she will give it she wants everyone to pass!
I had Lewis in Fall 21, she is an amazing prof and provides beneficial advice on any questions you have for the subject. She loves her students and is an amazing teacher. Quizzes are somewhat difficult but as long as you study before you should be good. PS i am an accounting major and thought the class was super easy. Take that with a grain of salt
Super sweet person. Maybe it's just that I suck at accounting, but I had a very hard time learning from her. This will probably be my first C I have ever received. Least favorite class I have ever taken super dry material. I had a very difficult time with the tests. Homework is not bad but tests were very tricky for me
very helpful and responsive, the class starts off hard but then gets easier so don't get discouraged in the beginning. lectures are kinda boring since all you do is fill in the blanks of the notes but the graded homeworks really help prepare for quizzes and exams
She's a very caring and understanding teacher, but doesn't do many example problems. She reads off a powerpoint every class, which I couldn't learn from. She does not curve and exams are hard. I had to do many tutoring sessions to pass the class.
I really enjoyed Professor Lewis's class and she's a cool professor. Some of her lectures were more difficult than needed, but other than that the class was pretty easy. The quizzes were harder than the exams in my opinion. She's a great choice for accounting.
Extremely sweet lady who seems like a genuinely good person. She answers all questions thoroughly and covers the material well. However, her tests account for the majority of your grade and they can be tricky at times. She also allowed a front and back cheat sheet on the midterm, the final, and the last quiz. Solid choice.
Professor Lewis is one of my favorite professors at USC. I had her for ACCT 225 and 226, and I enjoyed both despite accounting not really being my thing. Her lectures are a little fast-paced at times. However, she is very accessible outside of class and is genuinely committed to ensuring her students' success in her classes. Take her!
Best prof at USC. I had a very tough semester, she cared more about my mental health than acct. People say she rushes through lectures... I bet they didn't ask questions or participate. You have to study by looking over quizzes, redoing hw, and her examples. She doesn't just hand you an A. I would take every class w her if I could. Amazing woman.
Prof Lewis is an incredibly sweet and understanding professor, she wastes no time in class and often lets you out early, however, I wish she would use a bit more time and go over examples more similar to those on exams and quizzes as they were often very different from lecture and HW problems.
LOVED Professor Lewis. She's so sweet and you can tell she really cares. Exams are definitely doable if you just study. Also go to SI sessions and don't be afraid to ask her for help. For participation she uses IClicker and you get attendance points for that. Homework and "quizzes" are easy 100s. She gives out a good amount of extra credit too.
Professor Lewis is such a sweet person who cares about her students. The class material for me was hard to understand but there are many SI sessions for extra help after class. There are three exams including the final and they are all in person. There is a good amount of homework. She does offer some extra credit opportunities.
Lewis is the best prof I have ever had! Her lectures are clear and organized, although I'd usually get most of my notes from the textbook. She's incredibly caring and does the best she can to make sure her students understand. Yes, accounting material can be hard at times, but Lewis makes it so much easier to understand it all. Def recommend her!!!
Shes a good professor who is knowledgeable about the topic. If you reach out to her or schedule a meeting, she will do her best to help you to understand what you're curious about. Homework is not hard but there is a fair amount.
ACCT225 is a hard class and Lewis does not help make it any easier. Classes are just her reading off of slides. The content on her exams does not match up with the content on the study guides and homework. Good luck trying to figure out a good way to study. Also 3 exams make up 85% of your grade, so if you fail one just drop the class.
Professor Lewis is so sweet and her lectures are always relevant and useful. However, her tests are horrible. They are so hard for no reason, and I don't know of a single person ending her class with an A. If you take her class, you are going to need to spend at least 5 hours studying outside of class per week if you want to know what is going on.
Great professor and super nice. I would take her again for the next level. If you need more discipline in a class then take another professor. I found myself getting distracted, as the classroom environment tended to get social. She uses iClicker for attendance and daily questions (not for accuracy).
Although I got an A, it was not thanks to this professor. Her tests were extremely hard and I never felt prepared for them. The only thing she does is read off slides, and half the time the homework doesn't have anything to do with what she went over. She never went in depth for any explanations. I had to teach myself the whole course.
Don't know how she's rated so high. She seems nice, but this class? No. I was an excited accounting major but this intro class made me hate accounting & change my major. Tests were EXTREMELY difficult & completely different from lectures. I studied all the material as hard as I could, with all the effort in me and still failed. This class broke me.
Ok explaining what she covers-BUT most of exam is not covered. 1/3 class dropped,1/3 failing into final. I'm an A+ student, got a C. I never missed, did all assmts + more, went to all SI sessions, tutor & still bombed ridiculous final. Friends w other profs = even worse. Those who took 225/226 online summer @USC Branches said so much easier=A's!
Second time having Professor Lewis- she's great. Lectures can go by kind of fast but she's good at explaining and will slow down if you ask her to. Super caring and wants everyone to succeed. 4 exams in total- no cumulative exam. There are homeworks and quizzes to complete online and she gives out extra credit opportunities.
Outstanding. One of the best professors I've ever had. Currently have an A in ACCT226 right now, all I need is to not choke on the final. Regardless, her lectures are great, though she can go a bit fast at times. Also come to class. It really helps a ton. Also make sure to ask questions, she's really good at answering them.
Class made me change majors. Did well on all homeworks/quizzes but failed exams because they were so different from what we learned. Studying was basically useless. Did everything a student could, went to office hours, SI, and self study sessions. Doesn't curve and doesn't cover A LOT of material that is tested over
Tests do not match any material that is taught!! Exam questions are meant to trick you. While she is nice and cares about students, she just does not care how much you are learning (or your grade for that matter). Lectures are very rushed. Not the worst professor I have had, but not even remotely close to the best.
Professor Lewis is awesome! Accounting is a hard class no doubt, but going to her during office hours helped me a lot. She cares about her students and will help you understand it if you are struggling with anything.
Lewis is kind but does not teach well. Her practice problems are basic and each one eats up way too much class time. They are simplistic and do not prepare you for the difficulty or style of question on the exams. She can't keep class interested and wastes a lot of time. The basic concepts are clear but she does not prepare you for the next level.
Her lecture is simple and dry which is more like a fill-in-black game. Difficult exam content with 20 questions are required in 75mins. To be honest, she did not prepare students to get success at all. It's time for her to put more effort into thinking about how to structure a successful course.
She's very sweet and is nice but that doesn't help at all for this course. ACCT is hard in general but she doesn't help at all. Going to class is actually pointless because she moves fast and rushes through topics. The exams are so hard and not like what you learn in class. Get a good test and quiz grade because that's the most of ur grade.
wants you to do well so if you apply yourself you will succeed. you can go to office hours for an extra point added onto final grade and she really helps you in office hours, just sometimes is tricky if there's a ton of people in there. I really liked her and would take her again.
Prof Lewis is sweet but just a really tough class its not her fault. Her exams are difficult and not necessarily similar to the notes from lectures
just one of those classes where you either get it or you dont. nothing wrong with her as a professor
Jessica is an amazing professor who cares and wants you to succeed. She handwrites all the notes on the projector and explains each part and is willing to clarify if needed. The class in general is pretty difficult but she does her best to get the information across in the simplest way. Grade is made up of 5 out of 6 quizzes and the 3 exams.
This course is hard overall, she is a sweet lady and cares about her students but majority of the time it feels like she reading off the slide. She did write the solution down and show it but it is very easy to not understand what she was saying
I really enjoyed taking Professor Lewis for 402. Most of the class time is dedicated to running practice problems, and it was really helpful to see her run through steps as she taught. She is a really sweet lady and I would take her again. The class was really difficult, but I felt prepared and she was really approachable with questions.
Each point off on an exam is about 1% of your final class grade, but that's my only complaint. It's a hard class by design, but she does a good job of explaining if you can keep up.
She cares about accounting, but her exams have topics that were either not practiced in class, nor were they on any review sheets or assignments. She give you a practice exam about a week before the real exam and makes you take it as if it was a real exam and the practice overall doesn't help prepare for the exam. Getting a poor grade hurts you.
under no circumstances will I even walk within 10 miles of this professor ever again.
Prof. Lewis knows what she's talking about, but I think her class could be structured better. There are practice exams a whole week before the exams that are lockdown browser and affect your grade, which has ended up hurting my grade more than helping it. She does provide some extra credit and is always willing to help students outside of class.
She is a really nice professor and you can tell she wants you to succeed. There is lots of room for extra credit that is super easy. All tests are online with lockdown browser. You can get a cheatsheet exams. The only thing is that the pre exams are on lockdown browser and have a serious affect on your grade so it's like 2 exams per module.
She's a really good professor! Much easier and understanding than most of the other account 225 professors I've had previously. If you put in effort and study you'll do good.
Her lectures are really engaging. She was very good at answering questions and explaining concepts. I highly recommend her.
She is an extremely nice teacher and is very accessible outside of class. The problem is that her exams are not like the practice exam, homework, or extra problems. She is there to help you but the way she words the exams can be very tricky.
Professor Lewis is one of the sweetest teachers and she cares about her students. However, the exams are very difficult and sometimes not very similar to the practice/lectures. They are all on lockdown browser online, but you can use a cheat sheet. She also does "practice exams" before the real one but it's graded for accuracy and on lockdown
She's sweet, but I hated this class. In lectures she would just read off the powerpoint slides. Exams were very difficult, and had things we didn't see in anything assigned previously. There are also practice exams a week before the exam that are in lockdown browser, which make up a decent portion of your grade. Take this class with someone else!
Professor Lewis was a very nice and amazing professor. Accounting was hard, but she gives clear lectures and makes sure you have all the information you need. I would definitely recommend taking her. Her grading system is very fair, and if you do the work you will be successful.
Really tough class, but she was super nice and was always willing to answer questions or explain topics further. She gave us cheat sheets for the last 2 exams and was responsive with emails. Offered extra credit assignments and lots of opportunities to increase the overall grade. Had to use Respondus Lockdown for exams and reviews though.
Accounting is a pretty tough course, but Professor Lewis is so kind to her students. She genuinely wants us to learn the material and she's very helpful when it comes to having questions or concerns about the class/material. Material is pretty hard and confusing at times, but if you put in the work to study you will do fine.
Does not care for students
Professor Lewis is such an amazing professor, she sends out guided notes for each class and the homeworks are pretty easy. The exams truly are simple if you pay attention in class, they are online and you can do them from home.
She is such a sweet lady, but her lectures are so fast-paced and confusing. The kicker- you have exam review assignments due nearly a week before the actual exam, due for a grade. So you have to have studied like a week before the actual exam(not good for procrastinators/crammers). She is truly so nice but the class setup is not ideal.
She is such a kind professor that cares a lot about what she is teaching. The homework is nothing like the exams but I haven't struggled being able to do both from the lectures. The practice exams are annoying but not that difficult they probably take like 30 minutes. Would 100% take again and recommend to any of my friends.
Professor Lewis is SO nice- she genuinely cares if you come to her with questions or concerns. She provided us with fill-in notes for lectures, which is nice but just didn't work for me, so I still had to go back and reread the chapters before every exam. If you study hard for the exams and put in the work for the class, you'll get a good grade!
Homeworks were very easy but not helpful to learning the class. Even if you review all of the notes, practice problems, and textbook problems exam questions tend to be very different. She gives a practice exams a week before the actual exam and if you do not fully understand all concepts you will do poorly. She is very nice and helpful though.
Professor Lewis is so sweet however this class is difficult for no reason. The exams are unnecessarily difficult and take up 80% of your entire grade in the class. Homeworks are easy but not helpful for learning the classwork since class consists of her reading off lecture slides.
Very kind professor, with lectures and information that will really help in the long run. Homework every week-ish but not too difficult and lots of attempts to succeed. Exams are on lockdown at home, and the in class reviews before tests help so much. She's a great teacher and would totally recommend.
Shes nice but not a good teacher. You have to teach yourself basically everything and the homework and problems on the notes don't really hep with the test... and tests are 50% of your grade!! so I would recommend taking another teacher unless you are really good at accounting and self-teaching.
Professor Lewis is very kind and I really enjoyed being in her class. She is a fast talker and the lectures fly by, we always got out of class at least 30 minutes early. I highly recommend. She does fill in the blank notes. All homework is in connect, exam reviews are gone over in class. And all exams are online through respondus.
One of the sweetest professors I have had! Very clear structure to her class and notes thoroughly pair with her lectures. Also gave us cheat sheets for some of the exams and review material that made them a breeze if you put in the time to study the resources she provides
she gives outlines for all the notes that you just have to fill in. she's very caring and is super helpful if you go to office hours. i think she's a great teacher and i understand the material very well for the exams. highly recommend!!
She is one of the sweetest people I have ever met. I did very poorly on her first exam, and I went to office hours, and she was very helpful. She gave cheat sheets for 3/4 exams. It is accounting, so obviously you are going to have to study a lot. I don't know why people complain about that. Highly recommend
There were about 30 points of extra credit available (up to 3% of your grade), exams are worth 80% of your grade. Final is not cumulative. All exams in person. She's super sweet, and a great professor, it's just a tough class. About one HW assignment per week.
Professor Lewis does a really good job of simplifying the material and making the class feel less daunting. Her exams are straightforward and very reflective of the homework and class activities. As long as you do the homework and put in a little work outside of class, you'll do well in this class.
She's a super nice teacher, overall the class is kinda difficult, you definitely have to put in the work. Focus on the tests as they make up your whole grade pretty much. Workload is pretty easy you just gotta prepare for the tests. She's super easy to meet with and very kind.
tests are difficult but she is a great teacher and very nice. just go to class and pay attention and you'll do good. hw's and exam reviews are graded so do well on them and she also offers a little extra credit to boost your grade at the end of the semester.
she is a very nice person and has a good attitude but her lectures arent good. the notes are all over the place. she lets out class early a lot if u like that
She is Awesome!!! This class was hard but her lectures were great, and she makes her office hours known along with being very quick to answer emails. She is also so nice and caring she wants you to succeed.
Take Professor Lewis! Her class set up is very similar to Professor Brinson for those who liked that set up. She is so kind and cares to get to know her students and makes a challenging class very manageable.
The first exam was rough, but once you get into the swing of things, it's pretty light.
She is really sweet and straightforward with her lectures. The notes she gave were somewhat helpful but the textbook was a better resource for me. The exam reviews were helpful at least! I would def recommend her!!
She is very willing to work with you if you have issues and is pretty engaging and I didn't dread class. The s
She is one of the best professors I have ever had! She is seriously so caring and nice, she is a mom so she understands. Her lectures are fairly helpful for the test and so are her exam reviews. The first test was pretty simple but definitely the hardest since she let us have cheat sheets for the last 3 but overall Ive done well in her course
Professor Lewis is very kind, knowledgeable, and fair. Her homework and extra credit prep you well for exams, which are short and sweet. Questions balance concepts and practice. Lectures can drag, but she's considerate and sometimes lets us out early. Highly recommend!
TAKE HER! Very knowledgeable about the course and is super sweet.
she is really nice and a great person but her class is more hard than it needs to be. she just reads off the slides in class so if you don't understand something, you have to figure it out on your own. she does fill in the blank notes but doesn't share the slides. her tests are really hard so you need to study far in advance for them. good luck
Extremely nice person, not a strong professor. While she cares for her students, her lectures are not helpful. We do practice problems for homework that are nothing like the exams. Her exams are not curved, but we do get a review study test (only 8 questions, however). Wish she did more than just read off the slides.
Typing this while sobbing after taking her final. She is super nice but her lectures, hw, and assignments don't correlate with her exams. If you already hate acct. your gonna hate it more after taking her. Literally read the textbook, do multiple different kinds of practices, just overprepare for all her exmas. little to no extra credit.
Disagree with a lot of recent reviews. Exams can be difficult (4th was hard for me), but she allows a cheat sheet so you to not have to memorize formulas, only application. One critique: the exam reviews she gives are much easier/less complex than the actual exam. But do the work and you'll be fine. She's very kind as well. Take her!
Cheat sheets on 3/4 exams which helped. She ends class 30 minutes early which was annoying because on more complex topics I wish she did more practice problems. The exams have a decent amount of conceptual questions that aren't on the exam review. If you get 100s on homework/exam review assignments you can get 30 extra points towards your grade.
