Easy A, but you have to make sure to turn everything in on time, no late work is accepted. She is beyond helpful and responds quickly to any questions or concerns you may have. Loved her class and learned a lot.
I like how she gives you a month to basically complete a certain amount of chapters and discussions. It made me feel less stressed and was able to do it at my own pace. The one thing I disliked was how you didn't receive credit on the discussions if they weren't to her standards.
Jessica is SUPER sweet, understanding and caring, like a mother lol. I'm so glad I took her class and I will be taking many more. She knows that life happens and will even do her best to make you feel better when you're having a bad day. Her class has a comfortable environment and she respects everybody's talents (whether you have any or not lol)
Professor Jess is an amazing professor and professional artist. If you're a student that is serious about art, she is the one to guide you. She gives the class so many good insights into the professional art world and I would be nothing without her. You will absolutely love her, just DON'T get on her bad side, which is easy enough. Take her!
I took all of Jessicas painting classes. If youre serious about art, level 4 is the best class. She gives you the room you need to grow in your practice but will always be happy to share her insight. Jessica is a working artist so she really understands the work it takes to have a successful career as an artist.
This professor is passionate about this class. I like how the chapter tests are set up into three different groups and each group has a deadline of when they all must be finished. So you can basically work at your own pace as long as you finish before the due date. She seems to really care about her students. Really easy class, just do the work.
Very nice and easy professor. I took the 4 week online course and finished in not even 2 weeks. The class is super simple all you have to do is answer some quiz questions which you can find all the answers online if you really need it and also weekly easy discussion questions.
Best art teacher ever! I love how organized her online classroom is. The syllabus is top notch and helpful. I loved learning about art and was an easy A as long as you do the work and discussions.
Easiest and most fun class I've ever taken. You get unlimited retires on quizzes and tests. The final you get 2 retries. The highest grade is counted and the lowest one is disregarded after you retry.
For Drawing 1 you need to take 5 project test. You are assigned sketchbooks that dont help with the assignments. Shes a difficult grader on the sketchbooks. On the 5th project you arent allowed to use a ruler. The last one involves needing to draw straight lines. Shes passive aggressive when it comes to answering questions about help.
Professor McCambly is a little tough. She is a harsh grader and gives basically no extra credit worth doing. You have to work for your grade, but if she sees that you are working hard and putting in the extra effort, she is more forgiving. She makes her own PowerPoints for every project, so you know what you are doing. Not the worst class.
Jessica McCambly is the rudest professor I've ever had. She made me feel like I will never succeed and always put me down. Whenever I would ask for help she doesn't care about you and tells you to look online. When I was struggling, she came over and started roasting me in front of the class and telling me my art was bad. Makes me feel stupid.
Professor McCambly.. or Professor Jess as we call her.. was the best art professor I have ever had. She was so nice but she also knows her stuff. We had to be online this semester and she was so organized and made it so easy for us to finish the course with good portfolio pieces for transfer even though things were online. I would take again.
Professor Jess is awesome. She is an artist and makes you feel inspired in class. You learn a lot and it is hard work, but you will end up learning so much and with good drawings. Even though we had to be online because of the virus, she made it smooth for us. Loved her teaching style. I will be taking all of her classes.
I have taken 2 classes with Professor Jess and she is the best. She is organized and clear on the work, but also takes time to help you with transfer stuff, applications, and portfolios. Even last minute. Her projects are cool and not boring and we get to take some risks in our art. She is a professional artist and I loved her classes.
McCambly is the best art prof I have had. I have taken classes at other colleges and she was recommended to me by professor at another school. She "squeezes your brain" but that is what we are there for right? She cares about her students and will help you with anything you need. Even though things changed from Covid, she was there for us. The best
This was my first art class ever and I was nervous because I am not an art major. Professor Jess was so understanding and helped me feel better about my ideas and my drawings. All of her course material and examples are posted on Canvas which was super helpful. She took time to work with me before class when I was having a hard time.
McCambly is so nice and you will learn a lot about not just drawing but art and being an artist. She is really organized and shows examples of other students work. I was sad that we went online because of covid, but the class was still awesome and I made some good drawings.
This was my first class with Professor Jess, but I wish I took her classes sooner because I am transferring. She really cares about her students success. She works really hard and gives her time to help us transfer and prepare while learning how to draw and understand art. I learned a lot. Take her classes you won't regret
Prof. McCambly is incredible, I had her for Drawing 1 (Fall 2019) and Painting 1 (Spring 2020). Although Ive been drawing for years, this class taught me so much! Put your 100% in this class and youll be amazed at what you can do. Art kits are mandatory (and around $100+) but necessary for quality art! She is so kind and mindful of our wellbeing.
Professor McCambly is fair and clear with her policies in her class. She gave specific details in the syllabus (read the syllabus) so there were no surprises for us. Plus, the course is interesting and inspirational. I highly recommend.
She is a helpful and kind professor. The experience in her class was rewarding and I learned so much. She is patient and funny. I highly recommend taking any of her classes.
This was one of my favorite classes in college so far. She was supportive, helped me grow as an artist, and the course was clear and organized. Take her!
I took her for Drawing and she's a real artist who brings her joy for art into all of her classes. This is my favorite online class I've ever taken and class policies are clear. Take her, you won't regret it!
Took her four week class over the summer and completed it in two weeks. The book gives a two week free trial so if you finish the quizzes in the book before then, you don't need to buy the book. Super easy class, unlimited retakes on quizzes. There were a few discussions (once a week?) but they were mainly graded on participation
Ended with 100%. Take her for IGETC.
I'd def take her again and recommend her if you are looking to take a cool art class that makes you think and get excited about the subject. You can work ahead as far as you want to for the class and that makes it great for an online student.
took online due to covid. great class and super easy. able to work ahead and fished the entire class in 2 weeks with the final. textbook needed for access code to take test but didnt read a single page and got an A on ever test. super nice and truly enjoys her job
Great Professor, easy class, would recommend.
Professor Jess really cares about our success and our work. She was so available and helpful even though we were drawing online. Projects are cool and I even loved the resaerch project- which I didn't think I would. Opened my eyes to types of art I wouldn't have thought of. She gives helpful feedback andmakes you feel inspired Take her
Professor Jess is a professional artist, but she totally remembers being an art student and makes you feel comfortable when learning art. Loves talking abotu art and helping you. Always responds to emails and questions and gives tons of feedback to help. Also sends links to mental health services and tutoring to help us if we are stressed. Cares.
Loved the class and didn't feel stressed because of how Professor McCambly sets it up. You need to turn in the work on time, but she gives you plenty of time to plan and also this is college. Loves art and teaching art. She's a professional artist and you can tell she is into it.. alwyas gets back to you. Take her
I've taken 3 classes with Professor Jess and loved all of them. She "squeezes your brain"as she always says, and you end up making things you didn't think you could. I have become a better artist because of her. SHe also helps you plan to transfer and even calls her friends who teach art at SDSU or UCSD to help you with questions. The best.
most helpful professor ever. The class and materials are super organized which was helpful but she will take the time to clarify and talk about any confusion or questions. She got back to my question fast and took time to explan until I understood. Ended up with a portfolio piece for my final! Already draw but learned so much
TOok this the first semester during covid and was nervous. Professor Jess made the class feel comfortable saying we are all in this together. Never knew about art but now Im excited about it and actually want to take my girlfriend to a museum once this is over. Loved the class- great prof. She loves art and loves teaching us. Take her.
she's really nice as a proffesor and she set her class up so it's easy to get your work done. it's clear and fair in her class. you should take her
I just took this for GE but I love this class! Professor Jess makes it actually interesting. Teh class is awesome and you can retake quizzes and nothign is timed. It makes me feel less stressed. SHe wants us to succeed and knows it can be stressful. Take her!
Very thorough and detailed schedule. Took the 4 week course and it was honestly somewhat time consuming but not difficult at all. Discussions are what matters the most so make sure there is some effort shown in your discussion responses. Very upbeat and modern-time professor.
awesome class and awesome professor. She does not accept late work, but she gives you so much time and multiple attempts on quizzes, so you should not have any problem gettign yoru work finished on time. Makes the class interesting with cool links to art that connects to our times. not boring at all. not into art but actually loved the class.
Prof Jess is a professional artist and loves teaching about art you can tell. The discussions are cool because they are about our thoughts on art that relates to our time not old stuff. I didn't know there was art like that. .. like hip hop and stuff. No late work, but she is fair and kind. Take her for everything. She will brighten your day.
The most unpleasant scholastic experience ever. This teacher doesn't value student's efforts if you try reaching out in case you need help with missed assignments. Her class is structured pretty basic and all the quizzes and exams are autocorrected. Doesn't give extra credit and if you ask for it she will make you feel the most uncomfortable
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. The communication is lagging. Only responds to you the day after and doesn't offer help if you are struggling. Doesn't care if there's a pandemic and might cause students some difficulties during her course. Not very understanding.
Do not take this class with this teacher if you are expecting transparency of communication from her. She doesn't make any efforts to help her students struggling with online classes.
Prof. Jess is the most caring prof I have had since Covid. She gets back to you within 24 hours always, and sends announcemnts and reminders each day bc she knows we are so busy. I have had Zoom meetings too where she helped explain things that I was not understanding in the online classs. So caring and kind. Take her!
She leaves feedback on every single assignment and will meet with you to help. Returns every email and will meet with you when you want. I felt so inspired by her class since things are so depressing. She checked on me to see if I was okay and shared support info for counseling and tutoring. Prof jess loves to teach and cares. Love the class
This is my first class with Professor Jess and I was nervous because I had never taken online classes before. She made it a breeze. Everything is in Canvas so you never have to stress, she is always in touch with reminders and to help, and gives tons of time for each project. It has been my favorite class and I will be taking Drawing II. Take her!
I took for GE and didn't think i'd like art. Prof. Jess makes the class so interesting. The discussions are all about your ideas and you get to really express yourself! I couldn't believe that I was actual looking forward to them. I learned so much and now love looking at all kinds of art. blew my mind. And you can tell she loves teaching and care
she gives unlimited tries for each quiz before it is due to help us succeed. The whole class is set up to help with so much time for each assignment. It made me way less stressed especially during the pandemic. Take her for GE I learned a lot and loved the class format. She is super nice to and always gets right back to you when you email Take her
I loved how instead of boring extra credit, she lets us retake the quizzes until we get a 100. Made me feel less stressed about the class, since it was my first online. Made me like art. I never realized how art was connected to daily life. Take her for GE. The short ones in the summer are easy and fun.
wish I took her for drawing 1. She is a professional artist but was a student at community college so she understands and cares. Loves to teach and is the only prof who kept checking in on us all semester to make sure we were okay during COVID. Made me a better artist. Perfect class for stress relief. take her
took Professor Jess for Drawing 1 and art 100 as GE. Loved both classes. She is clear and gives so much time for assignments. The questions are actually interesting and I learned so much more about art than I did in high school. She is an artist and her love for teaching art shows. Taking for drawing 2 and anything else she teaches.
take her for GE especially in the summer. The class is organized and you can work ahead. She emails every day and responds quickly to emails. Everything is on Canvas and she also includes cool links to art blogs and videos. I am a bio major and ended up loving the class. It was my favorite and I finished early. Totally take the 4 week summer!
I felt seen in this class. She made the class relatable by teaching about modern artists who are diverse who make art about things we are going through today. It was the first time I saw artists who were like me. I emailed her to tell her and she said it made her cry. She really cares. Questions made me think and the class discussions were amazing.
Discussions are worth the most but they are actually cool and make you think. All she cares about are your thoughts not online research so you feel like your voice matters. You can work ahead and she gives multiple takes for quizzes so it is less stressful. Wants you to succeed and is so nice when you email. Loves art and teaching. Take her for GE
I had Prof. McCambly for drawing 1 & 2 too and she is an awesome professor. Cares, is fair, wants us to succeed. She took so much time to work with me in 100 and we had the best conversations about art and social issues. I am a chem major but LOVED her and all of the classes. Take her for GE.. she will make you love art.
My first class with her and I wish I took her for Drawing I. Everything is organized, she is so helpful and gets back to emails every day. All projects have student examples which really help especially online. She will zoom with you to help whenever you want and she also will help you with transfer stuff. Really cares about students. Loved her.
Loved this class. Took it for GE in the 4 week summer and was able to finish early. She gives multiple chances on untimed quizzes which made me way less stressed about a 4 week class and the discussions were actually my favorite part. They made you think and were about your own ideas instead of finding answers online. You will love the class
everything is on canvas so it is easy to plan your life and other classes. took the 4 week in the summer and it was a breeze because you can work ahead. Perfect for GE and if you are taking other classes. She is so nice and sends helpful announcements all the time. loved the class and loved her. Id take her again but I am transferring. great class
I took her because 3 of my friends told me she was great and she was. Loved the way the class is set up to help us feel less anxious . Actually learned about art and liked it. She obviously loves teaching art it shows. Perfect class and prof to balance your load in the summer. You won't regret it.
This was my second class with Professor Jess and I loved it. She gives unlimited tries on open book quizzes and always responds to email. The class set up is stress free because you can work ahead with helps if you are taking other classes or job. I actually loved the discussions because they were not boring and were about things we feel today.
best class best prof for GE. Loved the class and learned a lot. Take the 4 week in the summer. I finished early which helped me feel less stressed about my other classes. I had her for Drawing too and it was great. She is an artist and loves to teach and it shows.
Loved the class. Had her for art100 last year. Do the work and submit on time and you will breeze through. I am not an art major but she made me love art and not feel nervous. Cares about students and checks in if you miss an assignment to make sure you are okay. always gets back to your email. She will make you love art too.
Her teaching style was very confusing and difficult to understand. You have to hunt through many documents and pages to try and figure out what she wants from you, and she uses vague wording. Additionally, she isn't lenient at all with assignments, you either get it or you don't, and there's no extra credit. Didn't work for me, might work for you?
Loved this class! Prof. Jess organizes all of the information on Canvas and provides project sheets and examples of projects to help. The presentations are super helpful and she stays in touch daily with announcements. Anytime I had a question she zoomed with me and explained. Super nice and caring. I am not an art major but loved the class and her
Took her for Drawing 1 and loved this class too. You have to read instructions and look at the presentations, but it is an online class in college, so is expected. She got back to me always and was always helpful with questions. The projects are interesting and it was fun to see the classmates work. It was a perfect class to take online for art
Loved Professor Jess. weekly sketchbooks and 4 main projects.. I learned a ton and felt like the class flowed online with tons of time in between due dates. She was always available to meet on Zoom and to help on email. I was nervous at first but she made it easy and fun. No assigned reading just project prompts and presentations. take her!
the class was so organized that I felt less stressed. I took her for Drawing 1 in person before Covid and the class is the same vibe, cool projects, examples, no late work, but just online. She was just as helpful and in contact as she was IRL and I enjoyed the class a bunch. Do the work, ask for help, read the instructions and you will be fine
my favorite professor and class during the pandemic. I work and she is so clear and organized on Canvas with prompts and links for the projects which helped me balance my life and school. She was always there to help when I had questions. It is a college class so you have to do the work but she loves teaching and art and it really shows.
most organized and fun class. Read the prompts and the presentations with examples of projects just like any other college class in person and ask her any questions and you will be fine. Professor Jess is super cool and always gets back to you or Zooms if you want to help you. Loves art. She is so nice and cares and makes the class interesting,
This teacher seems well meaning, but she goes to great lengths to prevent what she perceives as the grave threat of cheating - the problem is, her definition of cheating is off. We are no longer allowed to self-reply if we made a mistake in discussion posts, because we may be reading other student's replies first and this counts as dishonesty?
Great class. All of the work is opened on the first day of class and it is untimed open book and open for weeks. I was able to work on all of my Discussions in Word with no panic about time before posting. Super easy and fair. Loved the class. Loved Professor Jess. Finished early. Set up to help you get an A and she is always nice.
She is the only prof I have had who writes so much feedback on Discussions to help. She shares links we may like too. You have to proof your work before turning it in but this is college and it is all untimed. She cares about students and loves to teach it shows. Take her.
Took ProfessorJess for Draw 1 and Art 100 too. Best prof at Miramar. She will help you with anything even transferring whenever you need it. Classes are organized and clear which helped me prepare my weeks with work and school. I appreciated how clear and fair she is in the course. Made me feel less nervous.
just finished the 4 week compressed course and surprisingly loved it. I am not an art major and took for GE but the Professor is so engaging and the class just flows. It is a whole semesters worth of work in 4 weeks, so it seems like a lot, but that is what you sign up for in an accelerated college class. Discussions were great. Learned a bunch.
Fair grading and clear expectations. Most organized online class ever especially for an accelerated one. Prof Jess emails daily and quickly got back to me whenever I had questions. a full semester of work in 4 weeks so you have to plan your time, but that's what you signed up for and it is worth it for GE. Taking her for Drawing too. Great Prof.
Loved taking Drawing online with Professor Jess. Even during Covid she really works with you to help you even if you are not an art student. The assignments are organized on Canvas and this helped me schedule my life and schoolwork. Read the project sheets and use the presentation as a guide and you will do great. Now I'm taking her for Drawing 2.
I couldn't draw a stick figure before this class. I was so nervous. Prof Jess was so nice and I can't believe what I was able to draw by the end. Kind prof and clear requirements. It's a college class, so you have to do your part and read the instructions but you can do it! Favorite class during the stress of this time. Take her!
Took Prof. Jess for Drawing I&Ii too.. best art professor. She is a professional artist and gets how hard it can be to make art. Takes the time to help and make you feel less stressed and excited to paint. Cool projects and lots of time to finish work. Taking her for Painting 2. Best art prof in SD.
Easy A as long as you do your work. Professor McCambly is laid back. The class was interesting for beginning art.
I have taken 155A and 165A with Prof Jess and loved both. I am a bio major and never thought I'd take art, but I loved it because of how she teaches. Learned a lot and can't wait to take 165B in spring. She is an artist so inspires but you can tell she cares about us. Totally recommend any of her classes. You will love her.
I was nervous to take Drawing online but I absolutely loved the class and Professor Jess. She was always available to zoom and help me whenever I was confused and I actually loved the projects. You have to turn them in on time, but the course is set up with flexibility and tons of time to work. This made it less stressful. Take her!
Took this as an 8 week because my friend took the 4 week during intersession. Schedule lets you work at your pace around other classes and work. Interesting artists- not boring at all. Learned so much about art and types of artists. Went to a museum with friends and actually understood the art. Awesome class and prof.
I never thought I would like to paint but after taking her for drawing I went for it and loved the class. She is really great at listening to your ideas and teaching you how to create them. She also shows you other artists making cool work and really wants you to feel connected to the art world. Nicest Professor ever and always helps.
Can't wait to take Painting 2 with Prof. Jess.. Loved Painting 1. This class made me feel so happy. Prof .Jess is an artist and you can tell she loves teaching painting. I learned so much and made so many friends. The class is like a club and everyone is supportive and encouraging. Looked forward to it every week. You will love it!
I can't believe I loved online drawing. Professor Jess made the class awesome. She gives so much feedback, will Zoom whenever you need it, and is so nice. The class was super organized in Canvas with clear deadlines and instructions. I feel like I had more communication with her than with profs in in-person classes. Take her!
I took Freehand Drawing I with her too and learned so much in an online class! Her projects are all good for portfolio pieces which I really appreciated for transfer. She will Zoom with you to advise on transfer or what classes to take and really cares about our success even for non-majors. She is an artist and loves teaching art. It really shows.
I’ve taken many courses with this professor. My friend and I both agree it was one of the worst experiences we’ve ever had with art. Not helpful nor was she encouraging. Quite the opposite actually. Even quit art entirely after her class for quite awhile. Would NOT recommend if you want to save your sense of self worth. It’s not that serious.
Loved Professor Jess. Took her for Drawing II. This was intersession and was quick, but the class was organized and I actually learned so much about artists. I'm a chem major so it was a GE, but she got me hooked and now I am in Painting. Cares about students especially during covid. Always available.
Just finished the 8 week early. I love that she allows you to work ahead it totally helped me balance my work and social life with school. Stays in touch with the class and replied to all of my emails quick. Shares cool art by artists of all backgrounds that I had never seen. Best GE class to take and she is so nice.
Take the compressed class with Professor Jess. I did the 8 and just finished it. Awesome class. Learned a lot about art which I didn't really care about before the class. You can tell she cares about students because she sent so many announcements to help us. Cool discussions that connect to actual life and our thoughts.
Compressed course so it was a lot of material, but she organized the class so we could work ahead and with weeks of time to complete each module. It was so much less stressful as a result. I actually ended up loving the class because I could enjoy the course without feeling panicked. Prof always was in touch and always responded. Cares about us.
Took this as a GE because my friend had taken it and loved the class. I loved it too. I am not an art major, but Prof. Jess made me think with the discussions. You have to turn work in on time, but she gives you so much time to plan. You can tell she loves art and cares about teaching, as she always sends out announcements with current art news.
Prof. Jess is super nice and so helpful. I was afraid I would not learn how to paint in this class since it was moved online, but it was awesome and she was available to zoom around my work schedule. I am amazed at how my work improved and really loved the class. Taking Painting 2 with her. Loves teaching. Take her.
Professor McCambly is exactly who you want in an online class. I took 2 from her. Organized, clear and fair on grades, tons of feedback in addition to email and Zoom whenever you want. She mentored me through my transfer applications and helped me select the school. The projects were great and I learned so much from her.
Provides detailed PPTs and clear instructions on all assignments. Grading criteria is very clear and provides feedback on each work! Make sure you follow the assignment steps meticulously, as you could be deducted points for that. Loved the course!
I've taken Prof. Jess for Drawing and Art100 as well. Super nice and caring, very fair, clear on everything and always available to zoom/ email. Of course you have to do the work and on time but this is college and she gives so much time to plan that it is not stressful. Loved the class- great professor. Inspirational.
this is an easy class, everything is clear on the syllabus. this is a heavy workload class though, so time management is important. DB's are worth 50% of your grade, so make so to answer EVERY question. by mod 3 readings gets heavier, unlimited quiz attempts and open book tests &2 attempts on final. (4wk class)
Course was very organized and clear and Prof. was always in touch with announcements and feedback. The focus is critical thinking and bringing your ideas to the discussion. She wants you to think. It is not a "look up the answer"class but that actually made it interesting. I learned a lot and despite being a compressed class. She's a good one.
Prof. Jess is an artist and made me love painting even more than I already did. Even moved online, everything was clear and she was around to zoom whenever I needed. I appreciate how organized the class is because it made things less stressful trying to handle school and life. Taking her again before I transfer. Cares about students.
Art classes with Professor Jess are like a cool hangout. I'm a Chem major and I LOVED taking Drawing and Painting with her. I made a ton of friends and everyone was just so welcoming even being new to art. It is a good vibe and she is a professional artist but loves to teach. You can tell. I actually learned that I can make art!
Always gives great feedback on all projects and points out how you can improve if she sees the need to. Can really tell she cares about effort rather than how "good" your fine art skills are. Available to discuss projects and helps to guide you in the right direction. Projects are followed by a discussion where you comment on classmates projects.
So I want to say this has to be the most unprofessional profesor ever. I tried asking the professor 2 questions regarding her supplies and clarification and her reply was that I had a comprehension problem and suggested I get help for it. This is my first time asking a question, I would understand if I kept asking the same question.
Professor Jess is so helpful. I took 100 with her and am now in Drawing I. She is so organized and is always available to help. She has already met with me twice on Zoom because I had questions and it is only day 3. The class feels connected even though it is online. Stoked for the class and for Painting next semester. Love her!
Her course was exciting and the projects were not just technical, but also idea-based, which I loved. McCambly is a favorite and her classes fill fast so don't wait to enroll when it is your turn. She also has a career as an artist so she gets the highs and lows of making art.
Just finished the 8 week and despite being GE, it was excellent. The course was so organized, she gives plenty of time for all work, and the Discussions were thoughtful and interesting. It is not just a take quizzes class, it was actually great. She gives feedback on everything and is available to help/ gets back to emails. Great class.
I took Professor Jess for Drawing online last year and finally got to meet her in-person in Painting this semester. She is so motivating even for non-majors. She is an artist and took us on field trips to a museum and to paint outside at a park in PB. Her projects let you put yourself into them and she teaches you so much about color take her!
Never answers her emails in a timely manner, and does not offer help regarding due dates. Her materials required for the class are outrageous, I submitted an assignment for the class done in the correct format, besides the texture of the paper and I was given a zero even though everything else was correct, outrageous.
Very black and white grading in my experience. A or F, no in between. Incorrectly assumes your process in feedback. Patronizing when answering questions. Projects are OK, but the information to keep track of is not concise and spread across too many areas of Canvas. No teacher should have a 'bad side' to avoid as stated by other positive reviews.
Loved Prof. Jess! All material is organized and the projects were good for my transfer portfolio. Gives tons of feedback. Helped me during office hours with my transfer applications.Take her!
Super clear and organized class, which helped me feel less-anxious since it was online. Prof shared tips and instructions beyond prompts multiple times per week and would zoom and help whenever I asked. I believe I learned more online because of how she designed the class. Nice too.
Just finished the 8 week and it was a great class! She is organized, responsive, and makes the course connected to life today. It's GE but it is college so it is fast-paced and you have to do the work on time but she gives you so much time. I actually loved the discussions even though it was online. Classes fill fast-she is a favorite for a reason.
the 8 week just ended and it was a great class.. even if you are not an art major it is a great GE. I learned a lot about art and feel I am leaving the class educated on a topic that I didn't think about before the class. The class goes fast so you have to stay on top of the work but it is organized you just have to plan. McCambly is a favorite.
McCambly is one of the most unprofessional professors at Miramar I've ever had. The material given in her class isn't hard at all, but her way of grading is very off. She will not only insult your intelligence if you misinterpret the discussion questions but she will also accuse you of plagiarizing if you even try to improve or put some thought in.
8week section was a great class that moves fast but she makes is easy by opening the material on the first day. Discussions are "critical-thinking" focused on your own thoughts. She gives multiple attempts for quizzes and a lot of time. Super nice, lots of Announcements with help, and gets back to your questions. She is a favorite for a reason.
McCambly is organized but still laid back. Gives tons of time for assignments and would zoom and email whenever I needed it. You can tell she cares about students. Take her
McCambly is an artist and clearly loves teaching painting. The class feels like a club of your favorite art friends and I found myself looking forward to it. She even brought in a former student to talk to us about transfer and starting a creative business. Taking Painting 2 in the fall with her. Best Painting prof in SDCCD.
Read the directions carefully, and ask help if unsure about anything. Depending on where you are at as an artist, make sure to use your time carefully, as some assignments might take longer than others. But overall, a very solid class.
One of the most supportive professors I've ever had. The class projects are very enriching and have helped me develop a range of skills that I know will be invaluable in my future as an artist. She has great insight and expertise in materials, processes, and art in general.
Her class is so organized which was helpful since it was a 4wk. Great communication with Announcements and responding to emails. I was always wanting to learn about Art and the class was super interesting and the Discussions were actually something I got into. You can tell she cares about teaching and art. Loved the class.
I built a solid portfolio for transfer with Professor McCambly all over Zoom. She advised me and helped me understand what I needed and what to expect which made me feel less stressed. Her students for sure benefit from her career as a professional artist. She is also really nice and understands how we are all balancing so much in life. Great prof.
Loved the class and the vibe. She knows art and takes time to teach each of us based on our goals. Cares about us and our transfer but even for non-majors, she shows them that they can paint! She will help you with whatever you need and will make you love art. Cool field trips too. And donuts. Best class best prof!
I took the 8 week and it was the most organized online class I have ever taken. You can work ahead so it really helps if you are balancing other classes and jobs. Professor McCambly is really nice and communicated a bunch. Discussions make up most of the grade and are critical thinking but they were actually really interesting. Great class!
I am not even an art major and this class was one of the best I have taken. She treats everyone with respect and listens to your ideas even if you are pretty new at art like me. If you want to paint but didn't think you could, take her. You will surprise yourself!
McCambly is the prof you want for art. She is an artist and will inspire you even in an online class. Tons of cool resources. Class was organized and things are graded right away which I appreciated. Loves to "chat" with you about art and will help with your ideas as you are learning even if you are new to art.
Just finished and learned so much. Prof. McCambly writes so much helpful feedback for each assignment and it really improved my work. She helped me build my portfolio for transfer and the projects meet the criteria for other schools. I feel I learned skills that will help me in my future classes and really appreciated her help.
Best online course I have taken. The projects were organized and Professor McCambly wrote thorough feedback on everything I turned in. I had a ton of questions on the final project and she was understanding and helpful. Great professor and class.
Professor McCambly's painting class is not to be missed. She is a professional artist and teaches in this way, but she is so encouraging and nice that my nervousness about not being able to create what I hoped went away and I actually learned. I looked forward to the class and was sad to transfer because I wanted to take painting 2 with her.
Took this as a GE and would def recommend. I'm not artistic or know much about art history but this prof was great and it really showed that she loved teaching. Class is easy: discussion boards, online textbook + chapter quizzes (unlimited retakes), and a final (w/ a retake). Would also recommend the class if you want something during intersession.
Took this class as a GE. I'm not artistic and don't know a lot about art history, but this prof was amazing and it really showed that she loved teaching. The class itself was really easy: discussion boards, online textbook (have to pay) and chapter quizzes (unlimited retakes), and a final (one retake). Would also recommend as an intersession class.
Logged in on day 1( &2 ) & saw no assignments till day 3. But was Dropped on day 3. I pleaded for re-entry and she said "It isn't hard to do something as simple as logging onto a website" Verified w/ app activity I did log in but was still dropped. So Grateful to avoid such unprofessionalism she's too comfortable with demeaning students.
Currently enrolled in the third semester of painting, so clearly I appreciate the teaching style and methods of Professor McCambly. In these classes you will be challenged and if you do your sketchbook assignments and make the commitment to explore your limitations, you will be rewarded by what you can achieve.
Best online class I've taken. Professor is organized and communicates and gets back to you. Because it is online, you have to read the assignments and use the presentation, but if you have questions she will always help. If you follow the instructions and ask for help you will love the class and do great.
Professor McCambly's class is everything you want in a GE- organized and actually interesting. Discussions are most of the grade but are based on your own ideas which is refreshing-Don't plagarize. She responds to questions and is really nice. You can work ahead also helpful for a GE and you can retake quizzes. Actually loved the class
Super nice and super fair prof. Class is based on critical thinking and set up in a way that makes it easy to get an A if you plan your time and follow the instructions. Take the unlimited attempts on quizzes because those 100s make a difference at the end.
Just finished a 4 week section which was fast but she lets you work ahead and gives unlimited quiz attempts which helped me balance time with jobs and the class. Prof McCambly is really nice and you can tell she loves teaching. The class opened my eyes to what art is and I learned a lot.
If you love to paint or wish you knew how, Prof Jess is the one. The paintings are assigned and good for portfolios and you can make them yours with your vision. You will finish the class and not believe that you made the paintings you did. McCambly is an artist and makes you feel welcome and she believes in your ideas.
Very tough grader, gives you a 0 even if you attempted to do the assignment. Gives you degrading comments that makes you feel stupid and dumb. p.s. Makes you spend $155 on her art kit for the class. Waste of money
Loved the class and loved Professor Jess. I appreciated how organized it was for an online class and how available she was to help me on Zoom when I had questions. I am not a major but learned how to draw with her help. I am now in her painting class and she is as nice in person and the projects are not boring. good class.
Great class and really organized. She gives a good amount of time to complete assignments with in progress submissions so you can get feedback before turning in. Projects are interesting and you can bring your ideas to them which I appreciated. Prof is really nice and gives a ton of feedback/ gets back to you and will Zoom if you want.
Prof. Jess is the best. All of the paintings are assigned but you still get to be creative which I appreciated. She is really nice and helpful especially when you feel nervous that your painting isn't working. She is an artist and you can tell she understands how it feels to be a student. Great class.
One of the best online classes I've taken. Professor McCambly provides thorough feedback and is very helpful. Use resources like Unstuck AI alongside the class materials to stay on top of the work. Overall, a solid and manageable class.
a good GE class and the professor is really organized. I took the 4 week and it feels like a lot of work because it is compressed but she opens it all so you can work ahead which helped me with time management. McCambly makes the class interesting and about YOUR thoughts so don't plagairize!
very easy, took during summer in a 4 week format. everything laid simply put and very straightforward. overall a breeze
excellent and organized class. Professor McCambly really cares about student's learning how to draw. Even though it is online, she worked with me whenever I needed to help. She helped me build my portfolio for transfer. You have to stay on top of the schedule, but everything is organized on Canvas. Take her
organized prof and class. All materials are also on Canvas even though it is in person which helped me a lot with being organized. Prof Jess is an artist so she understands creative struggles. She is super nice and helped me with transfer.
Professor McCambly is very professional and a respected working artist. There is homework for the A and B class with a portfolio production approach for the third and fourth semester classes, C and D. There's lot's of positive feedback on your work which is helpful as you advance your skills. I'm currently in the ARTF155D class.
She will accuse you of plagiarizing without proving it, when asked to prove it she will just tell you to focus on future assignments even tho that one discussion bored just drop your grade by a whole letter grade. Horrible at communicating AVOIDE HER PLS.
Best GE class even for nonmajors. Prof. McCambly sends daily announcements and replied to all of my questions every time and I had many. The class is focused on discussions but they are based on your own ideas instead of research which I appreciated. Chapter quizzes are untimed, openbook, and you get unlimited attempts. Great class.
Great class. She lets you work ahead which really helped me balance other classes and work. Gives unlimited attempts on open book quizzes and weeks to complete critical thinking discussions. Fair and organized. Professor was always in contact and responsive. I am a business major and know nothing about art but really liked the class.
Perfect GE class. Everything opens on day one and you can work ahead. Fair grading and lots of opportunities to get the work done since it is all open for so long. Just make sure to meet the deadlines- which is actually really easy since the assignments are open since day one with open book untimed quizzes- because no late work.
I took 3 online classes this summer and this class was ideal. Tons of time to do the work and can work ahead, multiple attempts on untimed tests, interesting content about artists and also art history, and a prof who clearly is into it. Critical thinking discussions so do the work on time and don't plagiarize/ AI and the class will be a breeze.
This course was GE for me, and it was a great professor
She gives feedback on everything and the class is extremely organized. Got a lot out of the class for my portfolio too. Really nice prof.
She recommends the wrong paper for watercolors. She can't clearly tell what's wrong and doesn't give any concrete advice. It's ridiculous to be so strict about choosing materials to get people to buy her set. You also need to buy a pastel set to make one color wheel... If you're a beginner, you won't learn much.
I was nervous about taking an art class online but the professor got me over those worries. I was surprised at how much she was in touch with us through canvas and email compared to my other online experiences. Shes nice and really helpful. Taking her for painting next
