Take if you're good at memorizing! She's very passionate and knowledgeable about art history & accessible outside of class. She talks fast so TYPE YOUR NOTES, hand-writing them will make it impossible to keep up. Don't skip because it's hard to recover if you miss class. Limited textbook use. Easy A/B if you go to class and study!

The class can be tough because of the memorization for the quizzes and tests, but that was the only difficult part of the course. Super helpful on telling you what to study for the tests, very straightforward and easy to understand. All the tests have bonus sections, which is great. Easy to talk to and will definitely help you if you're struggling.

I went into this class thinking art history was boring and came out of it with an art history minor because of Prof. Stewart! Though the lectures can feel long, she is so engaging and her passion for the subject really shows. You'll have a quiz due before every class, but they're super easy and there are two tests (also easy).

She's super great & has fun lectures! She has random SUPER EASY in class assignments, so I would just go to every class just in case they come up. There's quizzes due before every class that you can use the online reading for. We only had two exams & you could use notes & those same readings that were used for the quizzes. Very much recommend!

She is an amazing teacher! My class had around 140 students and teaching those many students is not an easy job! You have to do reading quizzes before class but those aren't that hard if you pay attention; doing these quizzes will also help you understand the lecture as the lecture is based on the topics in these quizzes. Overall, a must have!

Most information for tests comes from her lectures that are concise, and she's always open to answering questions or hearing opinions. Her tests are open note and you can definitely do well if you pay attention during lectures, but they are still rigorous. She is very caring and wants you to succeed!

I loved Professor Stewart! She is a very knowledgable professor who makes this class very interesting. She made this my favorite class of my entire time here at JMU. There were two exams which are online and open note/open course website. Also a few discussion boards. She is very funny and allows for participation, but doesn't require it! Take her!

I could write an essay about how amazing Jessica Stewart is. I hate history but she is so passionate about what she teaches the lecture material starts to feel like a reality TV show. 2 reading quizzes a week get pretty annoying but you can just control F the answers. 2 tests and both are online no timer but you HAVE to take notes to pass them.

Great professor with engaging lectures! 2 Reading quizzes a week, midterm and final (non-cumulative and open notes/course website) and some in-class assignments/ discussion boards. Not a big workload but you will need to take notes and go to class to do well. Tests have an essay/short answer component.

I love her. It's really important to go to class because she verbally says all the notes, but it's really easy to succeed if you do. There's daily homework and it's a lot of information but it's all open note which is so helpful. I never felt stressed about this class and this was my second semester taking her class and I really recommend it.

Loved her! Super fun lady and the material really is interesting. All main tests are online, open notes, and open all day. Final is not cumulative. Overall this is a super easy gen ed for someone that doesn't know too much about art or religion or anything bc she really covers all of her bases. Make sure you take lots of notes for tests.

Was my favorite class last semester and going to an art museum after being in this class is 10x cooler because you know so much about the artists/art. Tests were online just take GOOD notes in class and be thoughtful/take time with free response questions

Very engaging lectures that I found myself very immersed. She often makes jokes and connects to her students. Much of what she says in class is information needed for tests but she does not write that information on slides. She is a very fair grader and provides good feedback. She also gives multiple opportunities to raise grade.

Great prof. She cares about what she teaches and her students' understanding of the content. There are easy quizzes often, but the readings and videos aren't difficult to get through. Participation matters to her. Allows "cheat sheets" on midterm and final. Midterm = first half, final = second half. Take her class if you can, you won't regret it.

The only material from the lecture that is on the slides is the images of the artwork, so show up to class, listen and take good notes.
