the best prof !! first time teaching but she did explain concepts and important stuffs. care about her students and she is hilarious, her lec is pretty easy to understand and as long as you go to class and listen, and pay attention, youll get a high mark on midterms. her midterm is the easiest midterm ive even had in my whole life, straight fwd
I am in love with her!Best prof ever!Funny,Gorgeous!Lectures are interesting! 30%assignments just for completion. Exam was easy but i think she will make the final harder since no one failed. She cares for her students and does EVERYHTING possible for us to do good, she even made us a study guide and gives clues in class so go to her class!
She explains the important concepts in class in a precise and concise manner. She makes the class fun and engaging for students. She also has a clear grading criteria and is super helpful through emails and in person. Also, she dismisses class early on most days and her assignments will help you prepare for the midterm and the final. Super chill!
Unreal prof. So funny, so entertaining, so helpful. makes it a really applicable class
Gives homework assignments based on completion marks. Very enthusiastic but tends to be scatter-brained. When discussing triggering topics (like depression, eating disorders, etc.) she would put on funny cat videos at the end of the lecture to try and lighten the mood.
8 small assignments, 1 paper, and a MC final. Posts ppt slides with thorough notes so you don't need the textbook and don't even have to go to class to take notes. Gave some bonus marks for attending 4 random classes in the term. Very clear rubric for the paper, easy marks. She's mostly funny, sometimes annoying, but has good jokes and cat stories.
Very down to earth & her enthusiasm is contagious. I really thought this was going to be my worst class this term cuz it's research methods but this class sparked my interest in research studies! You can tell she cares about her students& their well-being e.g. relaxation breathing before the final & high five after the exam! She's really amazing!
extremely helpful, caring, genuinely wants students to succeed. goes to extreme lengths to make sure that each individual student gets the best grade they possibly can, and that everyone has an enjoyable learning experience every class. wish I could take all my classes from her
Wonder! Probably my favourite prof so far. She is sincere and more than willing to help you out or just chat. Assignments are super easy and graded on completion. I would recommend reading the text as tests have some book specific questions. She adapted her teaching to our classes needs, which was nice. If you have the chance take a class with her!
literally the best prof ever. I think I somehow created her with my brain and sheer willpower.
Jessica is honest, engaging, and knowledgeable. She made class interesting with real-life anecdotes and video case-studies. Great classroom management skills. She knows how to relate to students and always keeps it interesting. She makes me want to learn more. Pure gold.
Jessica was a great prof. She knows her material and is friendly and upbeat. Midterm was extremely easy (she may change that in the future) but the final was more challenging. Download her powerpoint lectures instead of pdf versions because they include extra info in the "notes" section of the slides. Talks a little too much about her cat.
Jess is an awesome prof, her lectures can be somewhat boring but you can tell she tries to engage students and relate things to students through her examples. Definetly would take her class again.
You can tell Jessica is really enthusiatic and does her best to try to keep everyone engaged with activities and videos. There's no midterm but a midterm paper, 8 assignments and a final. The assignments are really easy, and prepares you for your paper. I literally copied and pasted from my assignment to the paper. Final is kind of hard.
Great teacher and she is really nice. However you have to wait for the lecture slides and exam results for 100000000 years. The assignments and exams are not extremely easy, but not difficult.
Wouldn't recommend. The textbook she chose was extremely wordy and unnecessarily long, compared to ones used for this class previously. You have to read 1-2 chapters per week minimum (before class), and take a quiz. Lectures are rushed and confusing, and her test questions don't test big concepts, just small facts. Participationmore assignments.
There are always some missing ppt slides that force you go to class (NOT MISSING BLANKS). Exams are tough and there are lots of readings. Also the lecture is rush and did not cover most of the concepts in the textbook. Wouldnt recommend it unless you are interested in abnormal psychology.
She doesn't cover anything in class barely, skips over a lot of concepts or barely touches in on them, and gives a lot of trick questions with more than one right answer on her exams. Feels like she expects us to teach ourselves but yet expects us to attend. Her notes are complete trash with nothing on them. I do not recommend this instructor!
Wouldn't recommend. lectures are boring. Does not teach anything. Videos are useless.
1 chapter per class and she goes through the main points very quick. there are tons of reading which have a great contrast to the little things she taught in the class. I cant really learn anything from the lecture, but I learn from the textbook I like this class but she makes me hate it. actually reading the textbook is kinda boring meh
Avoid she got a good review last semester and did a 360 since then. very unpredictable. Lots of extensive reasoning, tough exams and her reasoning behind answers is vague and not based on class statistics. The material and course itself is very interesting but as a 4th year student I still think its too much work for a 200 level class
Readings are long and 20 min open-book quiz every week. The quiz questions are very specific that no way you can get a good mark unless you read the chapter before the quiz (however theres are some chapters that is not in the quiz). I think she is nice but she can do better definitely (she basically just read out the notes in the ppt)
too difficult exam :(
Very disappointed in this prof, looks like her class was too easy last semester so she tried to make it tougher. Absolutly awful test and quiz questions, worst I've ever had. Reading quizzes are 30% of your mark but are often contradictory to the textbook, and each chapter took hours to read. Feel like she isn't very knowledgeable on the topic.
She is an effective lecturer, takes time to answer emails with thoughtful consideration. Very kind and is able to approach abnormal psychology with a very professional approach.
The assignments online are very time consuming because you have to read the entire chapter beforehand. She barely teaches anything in lecture. You have to go through the textbook and add basically everything because she is so vague. Had this been a higher level course I would have a different attitude but it's a 200lvl arts psychology.. come on
She got the questions from Mindtap which is not really fair to the students who did not buy it Readings are long and quizzes every week Lecture is useless
Expects students to be able to reason out riciduously worded questions. Can't explain anything further than the textbook does; lecture notes based pretty verbatim on textbook summaries. Weekly quizzes are way more time consuming then they should be for this level. Interesting material but choose a different prof.
Avoid her at all cost. Not only is she not a good instructor the textbook she uses is too advance for this level of course. Makes you question what you really need to study for out of all the info the textbook gives you. She provides little to nothing on her powerpoint slides and skips/barely goes over the concepts in the chapters.
Awful. Quiz and test questions are bad and she refuses to budge on poorly written questions. Seems to mock the fact that some students really want to get an A. Lecture notes are also pretty useless and vague but expects you to know every detail from the textbook. Regret taking this class with her, could have been really interesting.
The open book quiz test every details in the textbook - avoid this prof if you want to get a good grade!!!
She glosses over the points on her powerpoint slides, and expects us to read the textbook before each lecture, which takes 3-4 hours each week since it's so wordy and contradictory. Makes bad test questions and won't budge when people email her about them. Test questions are vague and/or poorly written about minuscule details from the text. Awful.
I am shocked that this is a 200 level art psych course. I've taken easier 400 level courses. The textbook is needlessly detailed & takes far too long to read. Lectures are pointless. Her exams test more on microscopic comprehension than knowledge, so you don't get rewarded for the effort you put in. You can put in 10 hours/week and still do poorly.
I feel like the assignments do nothing to help us to understand the concepts. Powerpoints are useless, and she doesnt upload the lecture slides (she upload it after the class) srsly? I am really disappointed to this course because she got a very high rating last term, and in fact this is the worst psychology course ever.
Although she seems like a really nice person, I don't think she is the best prof. She tests on semantics instead of important concepts and often backs up her questions and answers up with one specific sentence from the textbook. She tests on details of topics she specifically told the class not to memorize but to understand. Wouldn't recommend.
She's a frustrating prof to deal with. Zero leniency, almost like she wants us to do bad, can't take in criticism at all, and therefore ruins the entire course . This shouldve been a very engaging class filled with interesting material and examples, but her teaching style has killed that cat.
Seems like a nice person but not a great prof. She doesn't respond to criticism well surrounding her wordy and sometimes wrong quiz/exam questions. The readings are extensive and you need to teach a lot of important concepts to yourself as she rarely covers them in detail. The material is interesting but not taught well, wouldn't recommend.
she is not an experienced prof, her notes are empty and a few points from textbook. just reads off the textbook, doesn't explain anything. textbook is interesting but really long, take 4-5 hour to read a chapter. exams are really hard and they assignments don't help to understand the material that much, she makes abnormal psyc really boring
A lazy prof. Makes students watch like 3-5 TED videos a day. And does not explain the videos or add anything to the video after class. She is very lazy. PPTs not posted, and jut reads her notes. She does not know anything about Abnormal Psychology. I don't think she is qualified to be at the U of A. Interesting material
She has the potential to be a good prof, but she says she gives 100% in this class and it feels more like 75% on a good day that is. All her exam questions seem to be "straight from the textbook"
You won't learn anything from this woman! She skips topics that are relevant and goes to talk about things that probably seem easier for her to explain. Puts graphs/charts on the slide but skips them. Going to class is a waste of time. She read off her notes word for word and it's all from the textbook. Doesn't give justice to abnormal psyc!!
DO NOT TAKE! The prof is lazy: does not post notes on time, the notes are useless (have no information in them), lectures are useless (reads word for word from the textbook), the prof teaches nothing. Exams are tough. You learn everything from the textbook. Would not recommend taking if you have 4 or 5 courses -- way too much reading.
I did not pay $800 to watch TED talks which I have access outside of class. Also who shows 4 videos all at once without explaining them to students? How do you think that is beneficial? Srsly this prof does not belong to the U of A community!!!
Terrible prof. Can't explain concepts. Get's snarly when people point out her questions make no sense/ have multiple answers. Seems more concerned with being "The cool prof who swears" rather than actually knowing or teaching material. Do not take. This class is boring and useless.
Dissapointed with this semester. Her teaching style seems lazy, mostly consisting of naming points we should be "familiar with" from the text instead of actually teaching about the topic, and showing us multiple videos without expanding on them. Her assignment questions are poorly worded, and often created more confusion than clarification.
She shows a lack of knowledge of this course. I would not recommend. It also seems like this is not her field. I hope she volunteers to stop teaching 239 as it will be a waste of time&money of future students who will do the same mistake I did of taking this class with her. AVOID!!!
Don't need to go to class as everything needed for exams is in textbook. Online quiz questions come straight from MIndtap, the program that comes with the super expensive textbook. Interesting subject matter in the textbook but classes basically consist of watching videos and are pointless.
Makes me sad to read the good reviews she got last year.. this class was terrible. As a 4th year psyc major, I can honestly say this was the worst psyc class I've taken. She tests on minuscule details from the text, and really does not teach anything. You teach yourself, since you need to do readings & a quiz before hand. Nice lady, but so awful.
I'm not sure why I paid to take this class when it was the textbook that taught me. Her lecture slides are so general and basically garbage, everything comes straight from the textbook. She gets mad if someone calls out a bad question on the online quizzes (sorry for trying to get a good mark?)
Best Prof In The House Yo!
She puts in time to help the students who want to do well. Whenever I had questions I went to office hours and she was so nice! She would sit with me and answer all my questions until I understood. She also stays after class to help students even though most students don't stay after to ask. Prof. Tomory is great! She also has the best smile :)
Great videos! Great lecturer! Awesome prof! Very helpful and really enthusiastic. You can tell she's very into Abnormal psychology. Oh and I'm a LIAR! If you want to HATE psychology forever take her class! (this is me being honest now)
This prof is awesome. Class is not hard if you know how to read and actually try. She switches up her style for each class so it never gets boring. Sometimes there are videos, guest speakers, and lectures. She cares about students and mental health. Grading system is clear-cut and straightforward. I learned so much in this class.
Jessica was a really nice person but not the best prof. The lectures were insufficient in preparing us for the exam, but a lot of people didn't really account that she was basically thrown into teaching a course that's not in her field. It's obvious she's still learning how to teach and I acknowledge it sucks how people got screwed over by that.
Currently studying for the final and realizing how little she taught us. She covered maybe half of the textbook during class, and expected us to learn the rest ourselves. Not impressed at all. Makes studying for the exams way more time consuming than it should be.
No idea how to study for my final since she taught little in the class...
This isn't an easy A, coming from someone who actually has one in the class right now.. The work load is unreasonable for a 200 level psych class, and her not teaching doesn't make it any easier. She is not a good prof. Do not take this as a GPA booster unless you have all the time in the world to devote to this class.
It is very possible to do well in this class. However, she teaches nothing. It's not about having your "hand held" through school. It's about the instructors being a useful resource, which she's not. I have learned 100% from the textbook and NOTHING from her. No class should ever be that way. Might as well have done distance delivery.
Studying for the final and she has not replied to an email I sent asking important questions three days ago. She posted practice questions with very ambiguous options and no answer key. The course is easy because the material is easy, not because she actually teaches any of it. Shows too many videos that she does not relate back to anything
There's honestly nothing good to say about this instructor other than her being nice. Maybe "everything in the textbook is fair game" would be fair if she actually taught at least a quarter of the stuff in the book. She tests on the most irrelevant miniscule concepts that most students would miss when reading the textbook. Highly not recommended!
Didn't teach anything, ppts glossed over general concepts from the textbook - not useful AT ALL. Test questions on ridiculous details from the textbook, must be able to memorize everything. Replied to my questions but didn't answer them, just left me more confused. I felt I did fine on the final and will get a decent mark but DO NOT recommend.
Not recommended! Really the worst prof I've ever had out of all my years at UofA! You literally had to teach yourself everything out of a really dense textbook and "everything is fair game". She really did not teach anything and her notes contained no information. She constructed the course poorly and exam questions would make you rage with anger.
Wtf,the final is incredibly hard and test on everything! Is that an LA teaching style?Emailed her for answer for final practices, and she said she would be back before 25th, come on! Are u f kidding me?
by far the worst prof i have ever had in my undergrad, she claims to put in a lot of effort into this class. Surprised she showed up to lectures. (didnt show up to the final) not surprised, it was kind of expected. AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID
All i ever heard her say was "dont be rude" um why did you curse out a class of 300 then? on top of that made exams so difficult, like how is anyone supposed to do good on them when all you did all semester was show videos and pictures of peoples dogs.
Just don't take her. The people that say she is easy are 1 in 100 students. Those are the people that get straight As and study 24/7. The midterms were hard, the finals were harder 10 fold. She gave us something called "multiple multiple" in the final which means there will be 2-5 correct answers for 1 questions, and if you get 1 of wrong you lose.
She tells you not to memorize the textbook and use your knowledge on what we learned, but the way she did her final was all memorizing(every little detail)! 15 questions were multiple multiple where you have to get 2-5 right in a MC question to get 1 mark... I got 0/15, and many probably got the same. I don't know what she was thinking...
There is no way people that are saying they got A in her class when we did the exam on the 21th. But in honesty this class was WAY WAY too hard for a 200 level course. She got cocky because she got an award last year... Her first year teaching got a good review so I took her class, but this semester, no vaseline.
Exams are hard given that she does not teach anything. When asked a question, she could not even answer them correctly because she lacks knowledge about abnormal psychology. A nice person though.. it seems. I don't recommend this class and specially this prof.
Jessica was not a good prof, she gave out very hard exams and a left to vacation a week before the exams so when I emailed her the reply I got was she'll be back a week after the final exam is over thus leaving me to do nothing but cry and pray for a good mark.
This class was a joke. She was "too busy" to upload notes (news flash-that's your job), the exams were terribly written and tested on irrelevant details. My mark shouldn't depend on memorizing what exact drugs someone in a video did but rather the main idea. I hope she hangs on to her teaching award because she sure won't be getting another one.
Freaking Jessica never replied to emails sent before the exam despite her automated reply that she will reply on April 25... AVOID HER AT ALL COST!
You're better off just buying the test bank she used and memorizing the questions than actually trying to learn anything in this class.
This class was just horrible. You are mostly going to be teaching yourself. The final was terrible with her multiple of multiple questioning style. Run away or take with a different professor. Way too much work for a second year psychology course coming from a fourth year psychology student. She is horrible as a professor in this course.
Worst class ever. I failed my final despite the fact that I got an A before the final. Terrible. Btw, I got an A before final because I spend 6 hours a week to study and get a good mark in the open book quiz, but the large amount of studying doesnt help you to get a good mark in the final. Good luck if you are taking her class :)
dont take her class, i cant even rate her teaching skills, because in order to rate them she would actually have to teach. half the things she said was too busy to do are things profs are REQUIRED TO DO. I strongly do not recommend this prof, too many low grades on the final.
She gave out 2 A+'s in a 300 person class and maybe 10 A's so just let that sink in. Worst prof ever. Nobody got over 90 on the final, which is a pretty good testament for how high her expectations are. Way too much work for a 200 level course, coming from a 4th year student.
She should not have an email account if she can't respond. Ive never had a prof who doesn't reply besides her. She is very rude and not a good prof. Ted talk's should have a ratemyprof, their videos taught more than she did
This class tests your memory abilities NOT psychology. do NOT recommend at all..
Worst prof ever, she doesn't know what is she talking about, she basically reads her powerpoints which are exactly copy pasted from the book. she can't answer anyone's question, test too difficult. Rude prof, and not experienced at all. Expects you to read and memorize and don't care if you understand or no because she doesn't understand it either.
She starts the class out great and comes across as really easy going prof; Gave easy midterms screwed everyone over on the final. Class average was a 54 for the written final. half the lectures she didn't teach as she said the main concepts are explained in the textbook. STAY CLEAR unless your looking for a prof who cant teach.
She tells you 1-2 points won't make a difference in her class and therefore you should not ask her to give you your well deserved extra point on the quizzes, however 1-2 points do count in her class because her grading scale is garbage. even if u get 87.98 % you will not get rounded to an A which is 88%.
Jessica is the kind of prof that will happily lecture you on how to format your email to her, or how not to be rude, but for some reason does not teach or lecture on the actual material. All I can remember from her class is videos, animal pictures, and her telling us everything negative she thinks about us. Rudest prof i've ever had in my life.
This prof has expectations. You should read the textbook before coming to class. However, she is very clear on what she expects for quizzes. Overall great prof for a fast paced spring class.
Its a straightforward class and since its spring it doesn't count towards GPA. So haven't studied and it has still been a breeze - easy participation and straightforward quizzes every week.
I took her class Fall of 2015 and it was alright. I think the reason why her classes are so brutal now is because she was told by the faculty to toughen up her course. We didn't get our final grades back for WEEKS because she apparently gave out too many A and A+. Her lectures were boring, but she seemed friendly at the time.I hope she gets better!
Meh. She was a good instructor but did come off as patronizing quite a few times.
She was okay, I wouldn't take another class with her again though. We were in a small class so she seemed to pick favourites. Everyone went into the final with at least an A- and the average for the written final was a 64%- brutal. Somehow, the class had a relatively even distribution of marks, I wonder if it's because she was marking too easy.
She doesn't actually teach anything, she just shows videos and makes useless Donald Trump jokes.
Has to be the worst prof ever. Only shows videos in class and doesn't actually teach anything. Course is entirely based off of textbook. Wastes 10 minutes at the beginning of a each class talking to students. Never ever take her.
Even if you think you know the course her ambiguous incomprehensible test questions will straight up tear your soul apart. You'll have to read every question at least twice to understand what it's asking, then she'll give multiple answers that are closely related. To boot- her grading will ensure you receive a mark vastly lower than you're used to.
Will not answer any questions. Any questions will be met with hostility and belittlement.
She relies almost completely on you reading the textbook and doing the MANY online assignments required. She only lectures on less than half the material covered, the rest is up to you to learn on your own. She spends most of her time telling inappropriate jokes and tells you that she doesnt respond to emails. AVOID AVOID AVOID
For a 200 level class, she wants you to do way too much work: reading 30+ pages per chapter, online reading assignments that take around 40-1 hour, chapter quizzes, journal entries to name a few... her tests contain EVERYTHING: mc, short answer, fill in the blank and t and f. It was frustrating. AVOID if you can.
Extremely rude prof who is very dismissive towards students. She has a points grading system that required us to do chapter readings, quizzes, and multiple full-page writeups every week. Lectures use slides pulled almost straight from the textbook and she goes off topic and rambles about personal things all the time.
Worst prof ever. How is she even allowed to "teach"? She's so lazy she doesn't even lecture!
You can't have a midterm where nobody gets above a B-. Lots of homework and work for a 100 level course is unreasonable. Only shows tedX and her lectures regurgitate the textbook instead of her own words. Prepare to read a textbook and collude for the quizzes. You're gonna have a lot of work to do especially if you don't buy the online textbook.
If you're into flushing your GPA down the drain as well as the tuition you paid then I still wouldn't recommend this class. I wish I could say this class was more informative than the daily TED Talk videos we're forced to take notes on, but sadly it's not. Grading scale is seriously messed up.
Jessica talks about her personal life more than she talks about psychology, she uses the textbook publisher's slides, and she DOES NOT follow the syllabus. The course outline claimed that exams would be all MC, so the first midterm came as a shock when it was more than two-thirds written response. She is a terrible instructor in every facet. Lazy.
Jessica is an absolutely terrible prof, she relies completely on the students learning all the material from the textbook and spends more time chatting with students in the class and showing Ted Talk videos which she doesn't even test on. For a 100-level course there is a very heavy workload and her tests are ridiculously hard.
Jessica is a bad prof. She uses the textbook as a crutch and lectures contain no relevant material but forces you to come with random participation. Our midterm was a complete gongshow where she somehow miss-graded our scantrons twice. Very condescending to the class in general and on the overall was a lazy prof. Would not recommend.
When the results from the midterm came out, no one in our class got over 80%, and the class average was 65%. The students when to go ask her if perhaps there was something wrong with the answer key. She said NO. After the reading week, she said there was actually something wrong with the answer key and had to regrade out exams for the second time.
Swears in class so super unprofessional. 1 midterm which was really tough, no one got 100% and average was low. lots of reading. random in class assignments. Doesn't go through slides but expects you to know them + textbook inside and out. Barely teaches anything.
she was an overall nice lady but her lectures are so disorganized. You have to read the book because she doesn't teach much of the material in class. the class its self was interesting but you don't have to go to lecture to get the grade. she likes to randomly assign one page(DS) assignments though.
Most of the people commenting were probably expecting an easy pass and were not willing to put the work in. I found that Jessica explained concepts well, however could be more specific on what should be studied for the exams. Very hard grading scale. Be prepared to put time into this class. Not a gpa booster, but id take her classes again.
Great professor, does a great job making sure you have an understanding of the material before going into the lecture. Which makes the lecture 10x easier to understand.
Ridiculous grading system. Guest speaker is great, but taking notes about what they said and tested them in exams? ? ?
Jessica likes to test in a very difficult way which is completely unjustified based on her teaching abilities. She requires mastery of the material which is impossible when students are taking full course loads. Very nice lady and makes class interesting but definitely not a good class if you're looking for a GPA booster.
Always finishes early, shows lots of videos that you can watch at home, her lectures are so dry and empty, gives you lots of a assignments. A waste of time and money.
I really enjoyed having Jessica as my instructor this semester. Although her exams are difficult, she is extremely understanding when it comes to accommodations. Her lectures are great, they have a mix of everything so you are not just talked to for three hours straight. Others are exaggerating how many videos are shown. (not a GPA booster)
very poorly organized course class is just a bunch of videos but participation assignments exist so you have to go so many filler assignments and quizzes rarely posts lecture slides Overall, avoid this class with this prof
By far the worst taught course that I have taken. Very unorganized and rarely stays on topic while lecturing. Assigns chapter readings (30 or more pages in length), quizzes, reading assignments online or chapter summaries, participation assignments randomly, midterm, and final. Has high standards for students but does not have standards of her own.
one of the worst profs I have ever experienced. get ready to put in the work with weekly reading assignments, quizzes, journals, and random participation assignments. Her exams are very difficult, has a high expectation of what you should know, and a ridiculous grading system. Her lectures are often disorganized and can be rude and condescending
Amazing lecturer. The class itself was a great experience and she was good at keeping me focused, and she was good at explaining everything. If only there wasn't so much homework. 2-4 small assignments a week, and they were sometimes pretty time consuming. At least she assigned a fair amount of extra credit to make up for her tough marking.
Her lectures where really good but this class alone took so much of my time. Lots of Reading, random participation assignments that took up time, journal entries, and memorisation. However, there was chances to get extra credit and the final was non-cumulative. Grading system : nearly impossible to get an A.
This is a decent class to take, if you only have a 3 class load for the semester. Really makes you work for your grade, tons of papers and assignments along with weekly quizzes. Midterm was very tough, but her final was fair. Non cumulative.
Is from America, and definitely shows it in personality. All in all a good person. Tests are hard, be prepared and donèt underestimate. However material is learned through the large amount of reading assignments and quizzes. Not the best GPA booster, but if you keep up with the material throughout the course you can get away with a decent grade.
Ok I want every student who is trying to fill their schedule to stop and read this and SAVE themselves. I'm not into bashing profs BUT Jessica is absolutely terrible, like natural disaster awful. She marked our midterm wrong and before she realized it she said maybe we didn't "study smart". Not to mention the annoying assignments and tough grading.
I believe that she is truly a really nice person. That's one of the only positive things I can say about her. She gave us assignments & quizzes on subjects we hadn't even covered in class, and even then, only covered part of the chapter. Too bad, for a course with actually interesting content.
Waste of time going to class, her slides are copy and paste from textbook and maybe 2 of the 10 videos she showed were on tests. She swears so much it is inappropriate and very annoying. It took over a month to get our midterm marks back and during that time we received 3 different marks for it. Not professional at all.
Jessica is not a good professor. She will test on things that she hasn't taught in class and not alter the grades when she's corrected. Tons of homework and assignments. Be prepared to teach yourself the entire course from the textbook because her lectures are not helpful at all. Not accessible out of class either.
Jessica is funny but very disorganized and way to much work for a 100 level course. If you don't read the textbook, good luck passing. Lots of completion projects so easy to accumulate marks that way
I really liked Professor Tomory. Her mid term exam was quite difficult, but the homework, extra credit and quizzes should boost your grade and the final was sooooo easy! I also liked her personality, she seemed like a hard ass sometimes but was super sweet for the final by giving out a few freebies. I definitely recommend her for this course.
DO NOT TAKE HER. So disorganized, received 3 different grades for midterms because they were somehow misgraded twice. Online quizzes are created by the textbook publisher and so are her midterm/final questions - except for the true/false. very textbook heavy. She also didn't even show up to the final, its been 2 weeks since and no grades yet
Worst prof I've had to date, probably the worst I'll have ever. Very disorganized, not professional. The course is basically just the textbook and the textbook is all you need really. Didn't learn from the prof, learnt from textbook. The only reason you go to her lectures is because of the participation marks that she randomly assigns during class.
Professor Tomory changed her expectations (due dates, is final cumulative or not) so many times that eventually I felt disengaged from the course. She was disorganized and didn't inspire confidence (wasn't sure if I'd actually be graded on work turned in). Her anecdotal style of teaching often left me confused. I won't take any of her other courses
Tomory's nice and she tries to make class fun, but honestly you should just treat your textbook as your new prof (she's inaccessible via email & you'll benefit more from reading than going to class). At least you can boost your marks with easy extra credit and completion assignments, but they take up too much time imo (necessary if you want that A)
Its obvious what you need to do to get an A. I LOVE the material, so easy & interesting. However, if you are not accustomed to an unstructured class I wouldnt recommend. It took me getting used to, but pretty much just READ THE TEXTBOOK and do the weekly learning curves & quizzes (free marks). Lectures were useless, but i still went to all of them.
This professor failed to properly grade the midterm and left me quite uninspired. The course had great potential but fell flat. You also don't learn much from lectures. I would not recommend this course to fellow students.
Participation Assignments: Random in class, she ended up giving everyone 100% 8 Quizzes: 15 Q in 15 min. On the LearnSmart website, all based from textbook. 8 "Journals": 1 to 2 pages about how the chapter in the textbook reflects your daily, personal life. Grades on completion. Midterm, final I will never take a class with Tomory again. Avoid.
never would I have expected to encounter such an incompetent professor at this university. I think the reviews below mine are enough to steer you away from this prof.
TEXTBOOK TEXTBOOK TEXTBOOK. I don't know if it was just because it was an intro class but that was what our exams were on. She was clear on her marking, and if you put in the work you got the grades. I personally liked her as a prof, and she genuinely wanted you to do well, but wanted you to put in the effort to do so.
Professor Tomory was by far one of the best professors I've had. She made the course interesting and we had good class discussions about the topics. Several types of assignments due throughout the semester which seemed intimidating at the start, but none of them were a waste of time, you always learned something. Readings were journal articles.
One of the best and most interesting profs I had to date. She really cares and puts in the effort to encourage her students. She has brought in panels to the class to enrich the learning experience and to apply the material hands on. She took the time to ask students what they wanted on the final (short answer, multiple choice, etc). FANTASTIC
All of the people complaining clearly did not put in the work necessary to succeed in this course. Interactive and engaging lecture style, ATTENDANCE IS A MUST, gives hints of exam questions, ALL EXAM QUESTIONS ARE APPLICATION, memorizing won't help! Engage in the topic, READ the textbook, go to class! AMAZING Professor, don't listen to the haters
Seriously don't take psychology 105 with her!!!!!! The content wasn't super hard but the way she nick picks on details is not worth. There were also way too many assignments worth not a lot but it adds up....
If you're a type of student who likes to put in a lot of work into a course with the end goal of not doing well then this is the instructor for you! She's very generous when it comes to giving unfair questions. Got any question or anything you don't understand? Feel free to Talk to her since she loves to critize students for not understanding.
