nice lady for as young as she is she definitly knows how to make some killer tests! you have to study and pay attention! she only gives u 2 test and a final if you do bad on one ur grade will suffer...she throws in a few quizes along the way but if u dont study for them ur screwed
Awful teacher.Doesnt know what she is teaching.Tests are near impossible. All in all I would not take her, she's more interested in being a mom than a teacher. Also, she is an econ teacher who had never heard of the FairTax Plan, if that explains more about ehr brilliance.
She lectures endlessly as if just talking to herself. There is no communication between her and the rest of the class. She gets defensive when people do stop her to ask questions. Her tests are full of trick questions. When I went to her office to ask her for help, she said she didn't do any kind of extra help and does not teach out of the book.
I found her Micro class to be really easy last semester. Take notes, the tests come from them, not the book. So go to class even though attendence isnt mandatory. Nice lady. Macro is alot harder though. You have to know whats going on and study before the day before the test.
HORRIBLE teacher. Flies through notes that come straight from the book, tests are different though and full of trick questions. NO discussion at all during class. Completely unwilling to put any effort into teaching! (this normally wouldn't be a problem except her test are whack!) Would definatly not recommend!!!
If you arent wonderful at economics definately steer clear of this woman. You have four tests but one is dropped, that doesnt help much considering how hard the tests are. she doesnt know how to explain the material either. she merely reads off of her notes and moves on.
Class is boring, and tests are hard. If you want to do well in this class you have to practically memorize the notes. Go to all the classes, even though she doesn't take attendance because she doesn't really use the book.
Not the most interesting class ever, but easy enough. Go to class, take notes, memorize the notes for the test and you will do fine.
Give great notes....but concept test....not the same type of examples given in class...she is horrible when it comes to test
this class was not bad at the beginning but its awful now. she makes corretions to her tests AS YOUR TAKING THEM. she reads from her notes all of the time and does not seem knowledgeable about the subject when you ask questions. Tests are full of trick questions. She has awful public speakng skills. The way she grades if different for every class.
class is not mandatory. the book is written like a VCR manual. all you do in class is sit and listen to her lecture and fly through her notes as she writes them on the board. tests are really hard. she teaches on a elementary level but tests are on a insane level!
Attendance isn't mandatory. There are three tests and that's it. The lectures & the notes are easy enough to follow. The tests are ridiculously hard. She is one of those professors that thinks it is so easy to her that it must be for the rest of us. I wouldn't take this professor unless it was your last resort.
Okay teacher, go to class and take notes. It's not okay to just look over your notes, actually try and understand how/why. If you can do that than you will do fine. Tests are only 30 something questions long, soooo you need to know your stuff.
Her class seems SO EASY when you are taking notes, but once the tests come, nothing makes sense!! The harder I studied, the worse I did on each test..75.5, 73, 71. Ridiculous! She likes to be tricky and make her questions A)this B)that C)a&b D) none of the above. I would suggest you NOT take her unless you love getting screwed over.
She does a very good job making the concepts very easy during her lectures. Unfortunately this is not true during the tests. Tests and quizzes are much harder. She is a good teacher you will just have to study a lot.
She isn't the best professor. I learned more from the Learning Center. The notes that she gives during class are easy, so are the quizes. The tests are extremely hard because she doesn't make them. The tests are 85% of the grade, and it's great to get a 70. She doesn't respond to emails and doesn't have regular office hours. GET OUT!
fairly easy intro to econ class, economics will never be good, but its not toooo bad with professor folk.
She is the worst teacher ever. Her notes and tests do NOT match at all. You think you know the stuff then you get the test and there is stuff on there that you have never seen before. Her voice is so annoying and you will not make it out with an A or B. Have fun...
Easy to follow in class but the tests are really hard
The only thing good about this class is that she is fun to look at. Otherwise, a completely terrible class. The lectures make you seem like you know the material, but come test time, it's completely different. I'm pretty sure she loves screwing her students over. Get out while you can.
Nice woman, very difficult class. The notes don't match the homework, the notes and homework don't match the test. don't take her if you have the option, for your GPA's sake.
Her tests are extremely difficult and preparing for them is hard. Only half of her class shows up cause attendance isn't mandatory and her lectures are basically her reading out of the book. Was lucky to pass her tests. If you don't have to take this class, don't. Wish I had dropped.
All she does is read out of the book. If you don't go to class, just read the book, and you'll be caught up. Her tests count as 25% of your grade and are over a ton of chapters. The way she explains in class seems really simplistic and easy, but when you get to the test it's such complex versions of easier questions. Most kids finished with Cs.
Avoid Mrs. Folk at ALL costs. She does not care about any of the students she has. Don't bother going to class because she just reads straight out of the book. The tests are NOT anything like class notes or the Aplia assignments.
Had her for both principles of econ. She is not a good teacher but this class is fairly easy to conquer, most kids just don't catch on to how to study. I rarely showed up but I just did then online homework (25% of your grade) and STUDIED THE HIGHLIGHTED POINTS IN THE ONLINE BOOK and pulled out a fairly easy A. Mostly a self taught class
Basically, you don't have to show up for class and frankly- not showing up really won't hurt you. As long as you do the online Aplia work and read the books, you will do fine. Tests are hard so i'm not guaranteeing an A, but it is easily passable.
The class is pretty hard, I mean c'mon it's econ, but she does a good job of giving clear notes. Just read the book and take good notes and you will do fine on the tests. Don't skip class, if you do you'll regret it.
The worst teacher I have ever had. She reads straight from the online textbook during class, and does all of the examples straight from the book. The tests are not at all related to the homework, and her husband actually writes her tests for her. I've had to bust my ass for a B, in a class I would normally get an A in. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
WORST TEACHER. absolutely DO NOT TAKE. Im a very good student in school, make high grades in a majority of my classes, except this one. Going to class is pointless because you don't learn anything. Her tests are absolutely impossible unless you're some kind of genius. She doesn't care about any of her students. Seriously get out of it if you can.
-She reads straight from the book -Class attendance isn't mandatory -You're better off teaching yourself -Test are tough -She will try and confuse you on tests -Tests are unlike the homework and lectures -STUDY EVERYTHING before the test if you want to pass -If you ask a question and she tries to answer it, you will be left more confused
Her tests are written by einstein himself and they require you to know how to build a spaceship. No worries though because all semester long she reads straight out of the book with its examples, not hers. If you make a A on her final, then you receive a Nobel Prize. Good Luck!
Mrs. Folk challenges her students, but it is very possible to do well in her class. You have to read the book, and make sure to score as high as possible on the homework. She cares a lot, and she will definitely help you if you demonstrate that you want to learn. She also responds to emails very quickly!
Her lectures and homework have no resemblance of her tests. I'm pretty sure she uses some other professor's tests. Her lectures are useless. Just read the book and do homework. Go to help sessions with TA!
3 tests
Her tests are very hard and are nothing like the homework and notes. Class isn't mandatory, and you aren't missing anything if you skip. Barely got an A. There are only two tests and an optional final, worth 60%. Studying the day before won't help.
Worst professor I have ever had. Reads straight out of the text book for every single class lecture. Gives ridiculously hard, long homework, and then the tests are COMPLETELY different. No one knows where she gets her material from. Heard she isn't coming back next semester, wish I could've waited to take MICRO until she was gone.
Her class was hard but not impossible. I was able to make an A only because I worked my butt off and studied hard. Her lectures were just reading straight from the book (which is online) but she did an OK job of explaining things. I'd probably take the class with a different professor if I could.
I took this class even though i had a friend tell me she is horrible. Well my friend was right. Class is pointless she reads straight from the book and if you ask her to explain she just reads you the definition and then rewords it slightly to make it seem like she knows what she is talking about. Also her husband makes her test for her. don't take
I was scared to take this class at first because of the other reviews, but she's really not thaat bad. She does go straight from the textbook and her tests can be tricky and she can be hard to follow, but if you take GOOD notes and take your time on the tests you'll do fine (test questions are verbatim from her lectures/notes. GO TO CLASS.
If you attend class and work carefully on your homework, getting an A can be very manageable. Professor Folk does an excellent job with lectures. If you read the book and study your notes, then you will do well but the class does require effort.
Homework is 40% of your grade and its nearly impossible if you don't have an SI. First test is over chapters 1-8 or so in the book that she never references. The second test is over from where the first test ended until whenever she runs out of class periods. No final. Just two tests and homework. Also, her notes are garbage.
Professor Folk is a nice lady, but be prepared to work extremely hard to be able to pass. I would avoid unless you really love econ and can teach yourself.
She lectures every single day and she seems to know a lot about what she's talking about but isn't very good at teaching it. I did fine on most homework but struggled on the tests and quizzes majorly. The questions are tricky and aren't as straight forward as her lectures seem to be. Do not take her unless you are willing to WORK for maybe a C.
Easily the least knowledgeable teacher and unorganized class I've ever had. Every day is an unstructured lecture where she provides you little to no opportunity to take notes, and will just leave off at random points. She teaches solely from power points and is hard pressed to answer any questions. Everyone fails her tests, avoid for your sanity.
I really enjoyed this class. Lectures everyday. The class is hard, but Econ is hard in general. The online work doesn't usually look like the test, but you'll have good notes and the text book. She gives you opportunities to win back points. GO TO CLASS
She takes pop quizzes almost once a week, she never gives you an homework, and she doesn't give out enough assignments to help your grades. She gets off topic a lot and she is a really hard grader. You will think you did really good on the test but really you fail.
One time she came in with blue and pink streaks in her hair and im like .. do less?? Teach econ?? She lectures every single day and is not very good at explaining things. The aplia homework assignments are hard. Only two tests and if you do good on those you don't have to take the final. Very challenging material and course.
Coming into this semester I was worried about professor Folk from all the negative reviews. This class was not bad at all. Sure it was difficult but that's just econ? It's college you're going to have to work hard in some classes. I like professor Folk and I think she has a good sense of humor. It is a tough class but study and you'll do fine.
Only takes attendance once a week, lectures in class but goes over the book. Challenging but doable, but thats just econ in genera. Two tests are only counted for but she gives an outline on what will be on the tests.
I actually enjoyed this class. I was terrified going into the class and was afraid I would get a C. She teaches notes from the book everyday which are what you need to study for the test. You do need to study a week ahead for the test. The homework is busy work, but you have multiple tries with it. Her class is not bad at all
I had this as an 8am and it was terrible. Could not pay attention in class for the life of me because the lectures were so boring. her homework is very difficult, but usually comes straight from the book. Tests are hard and theres only two so you have to really really study and take good notes to do well. she lectures straight from the book.
She is thorough in her lectures, responds to emails quickly, is willing to help you in understanding the homework, and grades fairly. She makes the grading and deadlines clear. Would highly recommend.
Professor Folk is one of my favorite teachers ever. she does such a great job making Econ easy to understand. she also has her students best interest in mind. she gives 4 tests and drops the lowest
I never gotten a B in my life, but I was beyond satisfied with a B in this class. There is A LOT of homework, but she drops 3-5 homework grades. She lectures straight from the book, but tries to make the best of it. Plus, you got out of class early a couple of times :)
Professor Folk is super kind and friendly towards her students. She truly cares about their well-being. Her class is basically all lectures but she lets you out early more than the average professor so that's always nice. Her homework really isn't that hard- it comes straight from the book and if you are having problems with it she and her SI help!
Lectures can be a little boring, but she is so sweet. She genuinely cares about all her students. The homework is easy, and the tests arent bad if you study. SI sessions did not help me at all, but I just studied on my own and still did well! She also lets class out early sometimes so thats a plus.
the class material is very challenging to grasp but if you do the extra practice problems she gives you'll probably do just fine. her tests were a little confusing sometimes - go in thinking u know the material walk out getting played by the thing. but she's super sweet and always open to answer ur questions or help u to understand certain ideas
She just drags out lectures that are very dry and boring. I had to start going to the SI to actually understand the things she attempted to teach.
I had Professor Folk for Mico and Macro. I really liked her for Micro and thought she taught the material well. For Macro she was not good at explaining the material and went word to word from the book. Test are challenging and my friends and I all missed two to three online quizzes just because she did not tell us about them. Refresh Cengage daily
She is such a great professor! While this class was challenging, she presented it in a way that made it somewhat easy to understand. She does not require attendance, but make sure to watch/attend lecture. She'll tell you exactly what you need to know. The tests are straight forward, but they make up a lot of your grade! Overall, pretty great!
I really enjoyed taking Ms. Folk. This was my second time taking one of her classes and i really like the way she teaches. Shes very accessible outside of class with emails, her office hours are just usually early in the morning. She really takes the time to learn who her students are! Shes very helpful
This class is hard no matter who you take. Folk gives you a chance by dropping a lot and having a large amount of other work than exams which are very hard. I failed 2 of 3 exams and still got a B.
The tests are definitely hard because there are only a few so they cover a lot of material. attendance isn't really mandatory, but the lectures are helpful so I recommend not skipping. She's so cool and down to earth.
would not recommend, she reads straight from the book but doesnt actually teach it. you basically teach yourself
Professor Folk actually cares about her students. She is very quick to go over questions on the quizzes and the homework. There is a weekly homework and quiz assignment if there is not a test this week. If you actually try in the class it should be impossible to fail.
Mrs. folk does read straight from the book, but she clearly explains what you need to know for the test. the hardest part of her class was the homework which was on a third-party website and was a very challenging format but overall, I enjoyed her class and am taking her again for micro.
Professor Folk is a pretty good professor. Her lectures are straight from the textbook, so they're pretty boring and it's hard to learn and memorize everything. However, she is always willing to help. Overall, you will do just fine in this class as long as you study hard, read the textbook, and attend SI sessions whenever you can.
Dr. Folk is a very good teacher for economics. She gives it to you how it is with no tricks, assigns little homework, and she almost always ended class early. She is a very laid back but doesn't play games when it comes to teaching the material. I recommend her because she gives a good understanding of the topic and doesn't waste any time.
Tests are so hard and there is so many notes to review, and the notes only kind of help study for the tests and hw. If you don't get an SI the class is so much harder. She is very caring and knows econ very well, but her class is very hard. Its a lecture every day straight from the book. The HW is also so hard
if you pay attention during lectures (they seem long but bearable), do the homework and quizzes, and study atleast a bit, you will be good. drops 3 quizzes, 2 hw, and one test if you take all of them and the final (shell only put in the highest three). i enjoy her as a person and her lectures a lot. would take her class again and again.
Professor Folk is very personable and easy to talk to. She has three exams and a final exam which is optional if you took the first three. She has homework and quizzes which end up helping your grade a ton. The content of the class is not easy but if you put in some effort you will be more than fine.
Homework is extremely hard and she is not a good class teacher regarding content.
She does all her notes in class even though attendance isn't mandatory. Quizzes and homework but she drops the lowest grades. She also drops the lowest test grade. Not a hard class for micro, just study and submit quizzes and homework on time.
I really liked having Jessie as a professor this semester. She let each student choose if they wanted to have homework as part of their grade or not, if you choose no homework then your tests are worth more obviously. She lectures each class but does her best to keep it simple to understand. Her tests can be difficult.
Professor Folk was very sweet but extremely lecture heavy. There is lots of homework and quizzes every week but helped your grade a ton and were the only reason I passed. Her tests are extremely difficult and alot of written questions. Be prepared to go to every class and sit through long lectures and do alot of homework.
I really liked Professor Folk. She was joking during class, and explaining things clearly. I did have trouble understanding the material when I missed class but she was always available and helped me catch up during her office hours. Her syllabus lets you choose whether or not homework is counted in your final grade but you're not required to do it
This class was not hard. Folk is a very kind professor but unfortunately, that does not make her a good professor. She often regurgitates the textbook back to you for the entire class and gives challenging exams. Her teaching style makes it to where it is difficult to ask questions, and she doesn't help the students to understand the material.
The thing about Folk is that she gives you room for improve. You have a quiz and homework due every week (not time consuming or hard) which helps you keep a high grade. The quizzes and homework do not take long and are really good grade boosters. The exams are super challenging, and you will likely fail the first one but you will get better.
She was a pretty good professor! Not bad, not amazing. While her exams are slightly challenging, she does a great job at covering all the material and showing application in class. You will do better if you attend class since she bases her exams on what she teaches instead of the book. Lots of things get dropped so it is easy to keep high grade!
She reads directly out of the textbook that she chose but says she hates the book every class but doesnt do anything about it.
Mrs. Folk was great! Very lecture heavy, but she explains every topic very well and if you go to class and pay attention you will have all you need for the test. Homework and quizzes are all online and sometimes taken in class together. Tests are a little difficult but with a little studying, I managed an A all year. I would take her again
She used Achieve, which is paid. Go to class- she takes attendance and you won't know what's going on if you miss a day. There is daily homework that's not too difficult and she provides study outlines. The course itself is challenging but she is very kind and there are study sessions with an SI.
She is truly such a sweet woman, but the lectures go the entire time and are so insanely boring and hard to listen to. The majority of the work is online, so it isn't hard to get a good grade, but you have to study very hard for the tests. She is so caring, but I would take another professor.
I am a little biased because I am an Econ major, but I really liked this class. The homework and quizzes aren't hard and they're great study tools. Lectures can be kinda boring but it's good stuff to learn.
Professor Folk is nice, but sometimes the material doesn't make sense. Attendance is not mandatory but you need to be there to do well on the tests. If you go to class, it isn't hard to end with an A, but she does not prepare you well for exams, so I never truly knew what would be on them. Overall good class and professor but not the easiest.
she reads the textbook and overcomplicates it for you. good luck if you have her
Makes you buy online textbook and literally just reads from it every class. Makes her own exams, and they're so difficult (a lot of it is free response). I studied for 10 hours in one day and made a 76 on the exam the next day somehow. I went to every class yet did poorly on each exam. Only good thing is she drops lowest exam grade. DON'T TAKE HER.
She reads straight from the textbook. Her tests are mostly multiple choice, and then true/false, and some short answer questions. In my opinion economics in general is very boring, but she does her best to not make it boring. Best advice is do not overthink her questions on the test, they may seem like they are there to trick you, they are not.
Do not take her. Lectures are boring, she doesn't really make sense a lot of times, and tests are very difficult. I feel like everything is harder than it needs to be in this class. Do not take her.
She tries to make a boring subject fun. 3 exams and optional final exam. Homework and quiz every week. Attendance isn't mandatory (I didn't go), and you can still get a B if you know the material somewhat.
