He's actually not that bad. He doesn't help a lot if you have questions during class but he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and has many small quizzes to prepare you for the tests. It's Stats though so it's no walk in the park. Do the work and study.
Mr. Gutierrez is an extremely helpful professor, and an awesome math teacher. He really knows his stuff, and is very friendly and fair to those who are willing to work. Yes, there is homework in his, but it is really not that much at all. If math is not a strong point for you, definitely take his class!
This professor is very helpful, and if you ask him to explain he does, so he makes sure you understand. i think he is just an awesome teacher.
Great instructor. I had been out of school for quite sometime (over 20 years), so I was nervous about math. Professor Gutierrez made the class fun and easy to understand. He gives you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to his quiz. Take him if you hate math, you will not regret taking his class. I really like his style of teach.
Great professor. Very helpful. He gives homework but its usually the type of problems you need to know for his exams. I highly recommend taking his class.
This is a perfect example of the types of math teachers that you want to take. This man loves Statistics and wants his class to love it. He will do everything in his power to help you pass. But understand this, statistics is not something you want to mess around with so come there to work and make sure you invest the time in studying.
Awesome teacher!! You will learn a lot with him.
Great Professor. It was my first time taking trig. He made it very helpful with his methods. Good sense of humor. GO to his office hours and you will do fine on quizzes and exams.
He makes it too easy for his students to slack off and I'm sure that's why he's getting good ratings. However because he is still a new teacher, his teaching style is different from Everest and Morrison. They're more methodical and strict. He's really cool and funny though however I did not learn much in his class.
This class is a fun class, and this guy's pretty easy. But for such a high level math course, he needs to make the class a bit harder, and go into the theory behind the math a bit more. You won't learn much from this guy.
Very compassionate. Will do everything in his power to help you succeed if you make an effort. Lectures are vague but involving. Be prepared to teach yourself with the book and tutors. Very unpredictable. NEVER SAY THE WORDS "I HATE MATH" he takes it personally.
Ok, umm he is easy if you do your homework and study for your test, if not than you are screwed. test are challenging and he is a difficult grader, i learned only off the book his lectures are to confusing the book was my teacher, dont recommend him,
hes a GREAT teacher. i enjoyed his class, you just have to pay attention
Horrible teacher. Not able to teach the concepts well. I have always done well in math until I had this teacher. He is an awful teacher who grades unfairly and cheaply.
he is a cool teacher. gives wayyyy tooooo much homework but he is good
The class is extremely difficult on all levels. The professor informs you of his teaching methods and grading procedure on the very first day of class. If his methods do not agree with your learning style, RUN as fast as you can to add to another Statistics class because in Professor Gutierrez's classroom you will be challenged.
Mr Gutierrez wants you to learn. He is intelligent and knows what he is talking about. He does have a unique teaching style that worked great for me. If you don't want to learn, don't take his class, he will push you to the limit.
I found this class rather easy because I've been great at math. His lectures can be a little confusing but it all comes together when he does examples.Homework assignments take a while but they help for the tests. Do the homework show up for quizzes and tests. As long as you follow directions you should get a decent grade. He has a passion for math
Great teacher. I wish I had him again.
Mr. gutierrez is by far the best math instructor. I am finally understanding math. I hope to have him for math 130 next semester. I definetly recommend him
Mr. Gutierrez is one of the best professors in math. I took this course again and got a higher grade. I defenitely recommend him for any math class. He is easy, gives extra credit, and is ready to help.
Taking a Winter session was extremely difficult to handle. Yet Professor G went out of his to help us succeed to the fullest. I am not great in math but taking his class all gave us hope to believe again. Inspiring us to work harder than ever before with results that last a lifetime. If your looking to learn and practice a skill, he's your guy!
Professor Gutierrez is great! Pretty difficult class, but if you are serious about your education you will do fine. He is very helpful and at times very funny!! I am horrible at math but he helped me understand it a lot more!!!
If you want to actually learn and get pushed with hard work then Professor G is for you because there's no "group hugs" in this class. He is very funny and the man can teach. He loves his job and is really ethusiastic about teaching. He expects a lot from you, but its for your own benefit.
Great lecturer, really fun class (for stats). If you complete the homework, extra-credit, video write-ups, you'll score very high on all exams. Honestly, it's difficult to fail this class. Show interest, work hard, and he will bend over backwards to help you-very responsive to emails and blackboard. Remeber 1 thing: No group hugs allowed!
Great teacher, you can tell he likes his job. He can definitely teach well. Very nice person, always willing to help and responds to e-mails very quickly. Very good lectures and funny too. He's got infinite patience. I'm definitely going to take him again in the future.
GREAT professor! I recommend him for someone who needs a professor that will push them to try their hardest and that will also show you everything step by step. He's the best! :)
He is hilarious, if you listen to power 106, this guy sounds like Tattoo. Hes an amazing teacher, very passionate, and very in-tune with student needs. The test questions are the examples he uses in class and from the homework. I highly reccomend this prof. to anyone taking stats.
He may seem tough on the first day, but definitely an awesome teacher. He is really passionate about teaching and makes the lectures interesting. Really funny and animated, holds the attention of the class. He offers extra credit on tests and help outside of class. Cares about your success.. Really great teacher!!
worst math teacher ever. If you ever had a math teacher, that made math difficult, when your amazing at it; this is the professor to do that to you. All of his useless methods and unecessary way of doing things in a more complex way really stunt your ability to learn. Take him if you want to have head aches over nothing
Mr. Gutierrez is a great math professor. He's really funny and he makes math fun. He's great at explaining stuff and he really wants his students to pass his class.
Extremely incompetent. Cannot explain things clearly and has the nerve to grade unfairly/harsh. Does not seem to care or even show sympathy when asking for help (NOT on math/homework). I used to be decent at math until I took this class but his COMPLEX way of explaining the material only makes things FAR more difficult than they should be.
The class was too long that's why i didn't always go. Other than that, he's really helpful. Might take his class again during fall :)
Great teacher. Made math a lot of fun and clearly explained everything. Gives partial points if your wrong and a lot of hidden extra credit on tests. Hadn't been in a math class in 7 years and was able to get the highest test score on each test/final so he did something right. Highly recommend taking him. Full Points.
I enjoyed his class. He explains clearly, he gives a lot of homework but i will take him for math 150 he gives a lot of extra credit points. He grades fair. I strongly recommend him to anyone
Gutierrez has been my favorite math professor (even though I hate math!). Yes, the tests and quizzes will be difficult (which ones aren't?), but the HW is just the right amount, and professor Gutierrez teaches at an easy pace and clearly. Because of this, I passed with a decent grade. If you have math troubles, I highly recommend Gutierrez!
Tough teacher teaching a tough subject. Excessive amount of homework (100 problems/week), only worth 10 points out of 1,000. I've learned more reading the book than attending his lectures. He seems to "wing it" each class (I don't think he uses a lecture plan) Pretty funny guy but pretty bad at teaching this level of math. Constantly making errors.
Amazing teacher. If you can dedicate a few hours a week to paying attention in class, you'll pass with an A. The homework isn't TOO horrible, you'll easily be able to finish it in class during the lecture. He pays great attention to detail and will help you get set as you move on to harder math classes. Nice, long breaks too.
Great teacher! He gives a lot of homework but it is definitely worth doing or you can suffer. He explains things well and is organized. I enjoyed his teaching.
Best Professor EVER!! He'll be hard on those who'll drop anyway, but I've completed Calculus 1, 9yrs ago, came back to refresh and he TAUGHT ME MORE THAN ANY PROFESSOR, makes word prbls EASY, shows tricks to making math fun n undrstndble. He's FUNNY, will make u laugh. Lots of HW, but he'll help you thru it. HE'S #1 all the way. 10 Star teacher.
His class was impossibly hard. The exams he gave expected too much out of his students. He does make class fun by making his students laugh though.
Awesome teacher who is completely fair. His class is rather challenging, but anybody who studies hard and does all the homework is basically guaranteed to do well. Very funny guy, too. Recommended if you're willing to put in the effort.
I recommend him to anyone who is wanting a good grade and to actually learn math. He is very fair when it comes to quizzes and exams and prepares you. He explains things more than once if the class seems lost and it actually does help. He emails students regularly and shows his concern. Definitely recommend him to everyone!
I've taken him for Linear Algebra, Calculus 2, and Differential Equations. He shows you the way to actually learn and understand math. Very helpful and is almost always available for office hours. Remember, you are the calculator!
Very good teacher, although I took a very early morning class he always made class interesting you just have to pay attention, very helpful and overall a very nice teacher cares about students success, and leaves a lot of recources online, if you fail its on you. Just be sure to show up to class or you will be left behind.
Prof. Gutierrez is the best instructor I have had the pleasure to learn from. His teaching methods are very clean, precise, and from different perspectives,. Gutierrez also spends quality time explaining concepts. Definitely recommended.
Great Professor. I Would Highly Recommend Him To Any Individual Pursuing A Career Involving Mathematics. His Lectures Are Really Helpful & He Knows & Understands The Subject Matter Well. Quantity Of Homework & Quality of Quizes & Exams Are Fair. Great Sense Of Humor & Personality. Very Helpful & A Reliable Source To Go To For Unanswered Questions.
Best math teacher I have ever had. I am terrible at math and he made it easier for me to understand. I will definitely be waiting to take him Spring semester for 150.
Professor Gutierrez has a great attitude for a teacher; however, I wouldn't take him in any accelerated classes, above MA 130. During the lectures, I found him to be picky about answering students questions, some which were based on majority rules, maybe because it was a winter course? I don't know. Overall, he's an ok teacher.
I took geometry in high school,I left his class knowing less about math then when I started.I didnt socialize, just listened & took notes and participated as much as I could. If youre like me & learned math through the years struggling to finally find ways that work for you,THEN DON’T TAKE HIM,I completely lost any instinct I had in math.
Always making mistakes, bad at explaining things. very confusing. Do not recommend him.
One of the worst math teachers I've ever had. He spent most of the time making jokes/being extremely rude and makes things much more difficult than they actually are. If you ask about a hw question he'll do nothing but confuse you. I learned geometry on my own without his help.
JG is passionate about teaching and does an excellent job of providing clear and vital instruction. As much effort as he puts into teaching, you'd better be prepared to put in that effort, too! You're supposed to be there to learn...it's for your benefit anyway, right? I would be fortunate to take another one of his classes. Thanks, JG!
Very knowledge math professor! I have never clicked with math until I took his class! Outstanding teacher! Takes the time to actually tea h you what you need to learn!
His class was very confusing to me, and he failed to answer questions that students asked. I would not recommend taking him unless you want to be treated like you’re still in high school. I’ll give him a C- for effort.
Do homework and pay attention and you'll get an A. I slacked on the final so it dropped me down to a b but throughout got A's on all tests and quizzes and I hated math until I took his class.
I took his Differential Equations class. He is very knowledgeable, and he knows how to make a math class fun. Would definitely recommend to anybody taking higher math courses.
Great professor. Very knowledgeable and down to earth. I liked the way he taught the subject. He makes you solve math problems in different ways. His teaching methods are unparalleled. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Took Gutierrez for the summer. I didn't like math until I took him. Made things clear and shows different methods. Show's he's passionate about teaching and motivtes. He busts out cheesy jokes but they make class interesting. Everytime I asked for help he answered my questions. Lots of homework though and don't miss class! Overall awesome teacher!
I really enjoyed this class. Mr. G takes the time to make sure you understand concepts. he doesn't always answer your question if he feels the whole class won't benefit from it but if you approach him on a break he will definitely answer any questions you have. A lot of homework but manageable. very motivating, and really cares about you passing.
Great teacher that makes a math class as lively as it can be. He's really keen on his students passing, and is fair with partial credit on tests. Some say he makes mistakes often, and he does. The mistakes however are rarely concept based, and generally some arithmetic error that could easily happen to anybody. Great teacher recommend A+. Called it
Took Gutierrez for the Fast track 30-150. A lot of stuff to comprehend. Overall great teacher and connects with his students very well. Always trying to motivate students and wants you to pass. Just show up and be ready to work. I would take him for the rest of my math classes if possible
I cannot say enough good things about Gutierrez. He made Calc 1 a great experience for me. Clear, funny, fair, and cares about your success. Your grade is 5 quizzes, 14 HW packets (2-5 sections/packet), 4 exams, and the cumulative final. If you take good notes and really make an effort, there's no reason you shouldn't walk away with an A.
I never really enjoyed math until I was in his summer pre algebra class and when I had the chance to take this FAST TRACK class in the fall I jumped at it. Be ready to work though. He just doesn't hand out good grades for showing up. You have to be willing to put in the work.
Not helpful at all and becomes visibly annoyed when you ask too many questions, especially when you tell him you're confused! Tells his students that he enjoys taking their points and failing them. He's so arrogant! I've never felt so uneasy and frustrated in a class before. If you're not good at math and plan to take MATH 150, DON'T TAKE HIM!!!!!
Best math professor I have ever had. Must pay attention to detail because everything on exams he does in class on the white board. He drops keywords/hints on exact problems he takes from textbook and places on exams. Always takes HW questions at start of class. Tells you exactly what he takes points off for on exams/quizzes.
Honestly amazing professor nothing but good things to say about him ! Defiantly going to take him for future math courses
I took math 29 during summer with Mr. Gutierrez. I hadn't taken an algebra class in nearly 10 years. He was very clear and helpful. I passed and decided to take his fast track math class for 30-150. I got an A in the first portion, I'm still enrolled in the second half. If you have a good work ethic and studying skills his classes aren't hard.
Took fast track algebra course. Really explains concepts in multiple ways in case you don't understand one method. Takes most HW questions, and will answer other questions during breaks. Has some funny stories will can break the dullness of math. Will take for future math courses. CALLED IT
PLEASEEEE JUST DONT TAKE HIM
He is one of the best Math professors at citrus college. He will give you a lot of hw, but he will go over the hw before turning it! HE WILL MAKE YOU LEARN!! I took his fast-track class and it was not easy, but as long as you practice the problems and ask as many questions as you have you will definitely get a good grade.
Great professor!
I do not understand how students can dislike Mr.G, maybe it's coming from those who haven't passed. Mr. G provided us the concepts of math, not through memorization, but through work, time and effort. If you don't work for something you want, what will you gain? Mr. G, changed my outlook on disliking math, and I was really sad when the class ended.
The class was pretty easy. He was very clear on what was expected of you. Quiz easy. Test fairly easy. Always gave out a study guide for test and exam. Most of his questions are based on the hw. DO THE HOMEWORK.. Is there if you need help. Very understanding. Lets you turn in late work. Recommend if math is not your best subject.
I really liked Mr. G till he screwed our class over. He's a great math teacher but he let me down. His personal problems affect his mood all too often. He can be dismissive about letting students down. His tests are ridiculously hard!
I have taken about 20 professors at Citrus College and this professor genuinely cares about his students. His tests are tough but are manageable as long as you keep up with the homework. He drops hints about his exams during the lectures so pay attention. Even though he teaches full time and is a family man he makes time for his students.
This professor is by far the worst I have taken out of the math professors at Citrus. His tests don't match up with the lecture material he tries to teach his students and the tests are designed to be incredibly unfair towards the students. He skips some material and expects you to know that come the day of the test. Worst. Don't take him.
As a Marine Veteran he is pretty funny and very sarcastic. Sometimes his personal problems may affect his work in the classroom. Grading is very simple, easy to pass homework and quizzes, but tests are hard. Always ask for homework questions, so do your homework on time! Great at giving feedback.
Great Great professor loves to teach loves his classes, but beware his test are a hard and if you are one to coast do not take him, you will pay because he demands you to be great at what you do.
Mr. G was an awesome professor over the summer term. He is pretty funny, and if he gets comfortable enough with the class will share some of his "back in the day" stories. He drills the grey hound theorem into your head, and helps changes every students outlook on math and hopefully life goals. tests are tough but what in life is easy?
He's by far my favorite professor here at this campus. His lectures are lighthearted and he enjoys teaching. Always available for office hours and answers homework questions online if needed. His exams are hard, but doable if you put in work. He teaches all the upper level math classes, so if you're looking for an easy A, go to a different school.
This was the first college class I ever attended so I was really nervous about it, but there was really nothing to worry about, he made everything clear and had multiple ways to explain himself just in case one way wasn't enough. I'm really glad this was the first teacher I had to start off my college experience.
He can be confusing, since he teaches you what NOT to do before teaching you how to solve problems correctly, but once you get used to his teaching, it's pretty easy to follow. He assigns A LOT of hw, so stay on top of that. Tests can be tough, but if you do the hw and ask questions, you should be fine. He is a cool guy once you get to know him.
Read the book before you come to class. He expects you to at least glanced at the current chapter before coming to class. Super chill professor, with semi easy to follow lectures. Tests are similar to homework. Class isn't super hard, just put in the appropriate amount of work and you should get an A.
Okay. If you've never seen the material before, he's very poor at initial introductions to concepts and methods, and the textbook can get technical and unreadable quickly and is thus somewhat useless. Can be slightly scattered in his presentation of material, jumping ahead and rarely tells you when he's moving on to the next section
Well calc 3 is hard by nature, and you need to work hard if you want to pass the course. There are lots of homeworks. 4 exams including final and 4 quizzes. He is so funny, and makes you love math. If you do homework questions and review questions he solves in classroom, you're gonna get at least B.
Lectures very fast, extremely hard to take notes and understand hwta he is saying at the same time. If you're not on your a-game during his lectures, or not asking questions if you don't understand something, this course is going to be very hard. Impossible to relax in class and then try to do homework on your own if you're not a math genius.
He is a top shelf educator. Match his dedication to succeed. If your taking classes to actually learn (which is shocking how many of you aren't) he's the boss. He drops knowledge like little Easter eggs; gems for the faithful math student to find and have logical aha moments left and right. Its fun and engaging; a testament to his preparedness.
Professor Gutierrez really cares about his students and will help you succeed if you're willing to work hard. Introduce yourself, sit near the front, and do all of your homework. He's a tough grader but looking at his sample exams will always help you.
For his classes, I recommend using the casio fx 115 es plus. That thing is a DANGEROUS little weapon. But we ARE the casio, right class? (no pressure). Mhm. You should be able to wake up in the middle of the night and take ANY derivative. Those who do the most, take the most. For calc 3, bring your parallel glider 200 to make some sexy lookingraphs
Amazing professor. Grades fairly and is very personable. Took three of his classes and could not have enjoyed them more.
Awesome professor he gives you hints on what will be on the test, but you have to practice it to get it right. There is always extra credit. Look at answer keys and tell him mistakes you get extra credit. Write your proofs out how he describes in class you get extra credit.
His teaching method consists mostly of repeated catchphrases to get you to remember. I think many people are fine with this, but in the end I left the class not being able to understand what I did, despite getting an okay grade. He will make a lot of analogies that make little sense, but at least they make people laugh, I guess..
This professor has a lot of "word" play on his discussions. But to be honest this professor is one of the most interactive teachers and the most approachable I ever had. I took his Calc3 and Diff Eq class and learned alot of things that I thought I would never learn. He always encourages by saying that we are the "calculator". Take his class!
He is a great professor makes you love math
I'm a student who struggles to stay motivated no matter how hard I try. However, I fell in love with Professor Gutierrez because his attitude about life and academic success is seriously uplifting. He has a witty and unique sense of humor. My favorite college professor so far and I am heartbroken I can't take him again. :( I love you Mr G.
He explains things thoroughly, this class is just tough. He understands what hes teaching is tough so he is very accessible outside of class. He really cares, he went over my tests with me and helped me with any questions I had
Take this professor and you will be able to wake up in the middle of the night and take the derivative of any function. Professor Gutierrez teaches you that if you fail, you should try again. The weapon of math destruction he suggests his students to use is honestly not the best weapon, it is the Ti-Nspire CAS. Unfortunately it is not allowed.
Really great professor that will take time to help you if you seek help.
This class was tough, but if you do your reading outside of class, take care of the homework, go to his office hours, and utilize his practice exams, then the class will be that much easier. Hes very helpful and cares for his students.
Mr. G. is a phenomenal professor. He will sometimes use catch phrases, such as "All About U" (2pac) when dealing with any vector u, or say subtle, unexpected things like "Now we get high" when increasing y or z-values on graphs. He nourishes your creativity and gives extra credit per technique you use on any given problem, quiz and test. 10/10
AWW HELL NAH CLASS! Gutierrez was such an amazing professor. You can tell he really cares about his students. He's really funny and keeps class fun and entertaining. "Wake up in the middle of the night and you should be able to take the derivative of any function."
I should not have passed this class. I screwed up in the first half of the semester and only really started working hard towards the end. The entire semester Prof. Gutierrez kept on telling me to continue to work hard and to not give up on the class. This dude cares about all of his students, even the ones that don't show interest. He's the GOAT
Professor Gutierrez is one of the best Professors at citrus college in my opinion. Defiantly the best math professor at Citrus I have come across. He explains things very well in his lectures and is very easy to understand. He was a marine and he graduated from UCLA. He encourages students to ask questions. Every helpful. Shows you what you need.
He thinks you have time to watch 4 classes worth of lectures for each section and we do two sections a day. that's 8 hours of lectures a day, not including the homework that takes 2-4 hours a section. he thinks since we can watch it at 2x speed its doable but we wont learn anything at that speed. his test are harder than the hw & examples he gives
wouldnt be surprised if gutierrez wrote all of the good reviews of himself here. He purposely makes exams harder for students than what he's teaching, and if you tell him what you're struggling with, he'll put in on the exam with a twist, so even if you finally figure out how to do something, it's still not enough
Overall a great experience taking Calc 3. The subject material can be tricky at times so you definitely need to to work hard and stay motivated. He is super funny on the zoom meetings and is very accommodating. He wants to see his students succeed first and foremost. Would take him again.
Worst professor I have taken ever. The laziest professor as well. Jesus is so lazy that he has us watch all of his lecture recording from the previous semesters instead of actually teaching. Not only that, the format in his class and on canvas is terrible with none of the dates being correct and everything unorganized. Dont take this class!!!!!!!!
Easily one of the worst professors at Citrus College. He goes off topic a lot and has catchphrases that get old fast. Also, he's pretty arrogant and condescending towards students. He's straight-up terrible in comparison to other professors I took after transferring.
Gutierrez is one of the toughest professors I have taken at Citrus. However, his high expectations are very much appreciated as I learned quite a lot of useful tricks in his calc 3 and diffy q classes. His exams are extremely difficult compared to the lectures. They also usually require you to use integration techniques that are from calc 2.
Hardest class I've taken at Citrus so far, the entire grade is calculated from only quizzes and tests, and the tests are extremely difficult. The pre-recorded lectures are pretty bad so you will have to find other ways to learn it. Slow grader so you don't know how you did on the last test until the next one. Passable class but really difficult.
HW is super relevant but not too important for your grade. Quiz and Exams will be most of your grade. Always posted solutions same/next day and never took long to grade papers. Gives extra credit often and always partial credit so long as you can show some level of understanding. I took the hybrid class. Its calculus, you have to put in the time.
As a person he's really great and does care. But it is calc 2, so be ready to REALLY study and know the material. If you're showing that you try and make some sense on quiz/exams he'll do what he can to help. The momentum starts from the first few weeks so be ready. Make friends in the class that will help! class size does drop but just focus
Online classes are tough. His canvas is unorganized and difficult to tell which lecture talks about which chapters. He teaches with a camera pointing at a pen and paper, which is fine, but you lose out on the benefits of having a presentation for notes. Otherwise fun teacher, explains well, probably would be ten times better if he taught in person.
Professor Gutierrez is great, he is funny & really cares about his students' success. Be warned he gives a lot of homework and for students like me practice problems help however intuition and proofs were best for me. Go to student hours he really goes out of his way to clarify things and not make you feel dumb for forgetting something silly.
This prof is a tyrant. Expected to go to 4 mandatory hour-and-a-half meetings a week on top of 6 to 8 hours of lecture videos to watch, and hw that takes 2 to 5 hours. He is lazy. The mandatory meetings are rarely helpful and the 8 hours of lecture vids he posts are even less helpful. The tests are 100X harder than the rest of the work he gives.
Laziest professor I have ever had. Expects you to watch ~6 hours of previous recorded lectures before each class where he just answers questions and doesn't teach. Tests are 75% of your grade despite the homework taking 10+ hours per week. Class is passable but I wouldn't recommend taking over summer due to the insane work load.
Avoid at all costs. The concepts themselves in terms of Calc 3 were not too bad, but the class itself was horrible. Homework packets twice a week with ~30 problems each, quiz every week. Professor just uploaded old lectures that were hours long instead of actually teaching. Exams were also nothing like what was being learned. Would not recommend.
Extreme workload for the summer course and grades on a point system so any point lost hurts. He's a nice guy, but exaggerates his extra credit opportunities. Must answer everything in his exact format too or else you will get marked down (even if the answer is right). No late work is accepted which is annoying because everything is due at 7-8pm
Homework can be a lot but are genuinely helpful and isn't busywork. Only cons is he is a bit strict with deadlines, I am a forgetful person and there were no accommodations made for that, which is understandable. Otherwise he is a extremely inspiring professor, and willing to explore different methods that students suggests, which is extra credit.
He's a good professor, just give lots of homework that ranges 26-30 questions each assignment. Also, will dock off points if you don't use his methods even when the answer is correctly. He does go over homework problems when requested so that's good.
Professor Gutierrez is a very inspiring educator. He goes out of his way to make the laugh class with funny quips and makes learning the material an overall joy. Don't be intimidated by the people talking about the homework, for each assignment he lets you choose a certain # of questions to do from it. Overall, fair and equitable.
Tests every week worth 70% of your grade, with the final being 15%, can't teach and only answers questions for an hour, cause we have to effectively teach ourselves, in a mandatory class setting (if you miss class 3 times, you're cut). Doesn't care about your circumstances and isn't lenient, don't expect him to care about a personal emergency.
he's a good person but his class means you will have to put in a ridiculous amount of time, it's not hard but time-consuming. he's the type of teacher that expects us to put in 20 hours at the end of the week. his lectures are horrible as well but he does plenty of examples. I would recommend him but you will cry. class is pure exams and quizzes
The prof was fun and made his course manageable. Contacting him through canvas is a bit rough though, as I've had instances where I waited several days for a response. Exams and homework are the only things you truly need to worry about so It's not that bad.
I DO NOT recommend if you are not willing to put up 2-4 hours a day just for homework and studying. ALOT of homework, grade is based 60% on exams -tricky prblms w extra required steps/proof & grades difficult (doesn't curve scores) & 3 lecture quizzes. had to self teach myself everything bc meetings were just abt hw prblms. good luck if u take him!
Great professor, teaches very well, gives a lot of homework though, but it's genuinely helpful to do all of it. I have a low grade because I fell behind but if you do all the homework you should be fine. It is just a hard course, stay behind after class he will help you.
Awesome professor, still a hard class but if you make sure all your questions are answered at the end of class you'll be okay. Gives a lot homework, some are busy work, but most are actually very helpful in drilling in core concepts. Gives extra credit if you solve problems with multiple methods, even on tests.
Pretty much youll be teaching yourself all sem. since he doesn't actually lecture on the topics themselves but reserves class time for just homework help. Besides that mans lowkey hilarious and clearly passionate about teaching math.

Worst professor I have been met, he is unwilling to give you extra credits, and exams occupied for 84 percent in the whole course! Picky professor!
The worst professor, he spends 70 or 80 percent of his time on homework and the rest of his time on new lectures, and worse, his exams account for 84 percent of his grade!
Picky professor and focus merely on the exam.
never chose him again!
The worst professor in math do not chose him if you have other options!
I took it as an online course. He gave us recorded lecture videos and the textbook to learn the concepts, and only used class time to answer questions about the material. There is a lot of work to do and the class moves pretty fast. While a rough class, I think he's ones of the best teachers bc you can really see his care and passion for teaching.
good professor, good person, but no understanding. took 3 classes with him, and in all, he was fair and respectful. if you have an emergency (like a full on hospital ER visit, car accident, etc) he doesn't care and will expect you to find away to make the exam even if proof, can say he's fair in grading, EC, lots of hw (TOO MUCH), and funny
Very annoying professor during the lecture. Does not care about the students at all.
Summer, online, class time only for homework questions. You will be learning on your own, he only lectures on new topics if there are no questions on the homework. If you stay on top of the work, it's not bad. He is knowledgeable, and actually has a passion for teaching, just doesn't help that the class is so hard and he is very picky when grading.
Worst prof. I've ever had. Makes mistakes all the time but it's not ok if you do. Doesn't teach and uses class time to work on HW. Expects you to use certain methods or techniques to get points for your work, yet you are self-teaching yourself the material. I do not recommend him at all, taking this class with him will drain all of your energy.
He is the laziest professor I have ever seen. All his lectures recorded back in 2020 he give so much homework he is so picky he joke around and he thinks he's funny but he is not 85% of your class exams like whattttttt he don't curve he don't help he ignore you when you email him. He just so bad so badddddddd like wow. His exams so hardddddd.
Very nit picky on assignments. Grading criteria is not clear because it shows on the syllabus a percentage scale whereas on Canvas it shows a point scale. Can also be very condescending due to lack of at least empathy.
Professor Gutierrez has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, the class is manageable. The textbook is useful, and unstuck study can be a great study tool alongside the lectures. Stay focused and you'll do well.
DO NOT TAKE HIM I passed his class because we are both military and have similar other interests. We are not known to be the smartest people on the planet. His strategy is based on if he likes people. He will over penalize on small things to get his way. Last I saw him it looked like he was very much out of breath from just walking. U've been warnd
Worst professor I ever had in my life if you can avoid please do he will drain you very very picky homework take like 5 hours just to end up with 3 out 5 every homework dude is so picky exam good lucky vector notation and graphics he going to take points don't matter how much you try dude don't curve don't help nothing I would not take him again.
worst and picky professor I ever see, Do not care about your grade, he will get points off ever your answer is correct, you have to write same step as he expected unless no full points. THE EXAM occupied more than 80 PERCENT!
The name is not deserved
His grading system is confusing, oftentimes inconsistent, and slow. Asking him about it provides little help. Additionally, he docked points for an error on his part and promised points that never came for covering up his errors. His lectures also don't teach the material half the time and lag behind schedule, and he assigns far too much homework.
I already made a rating before I realized I wasn't logged in. That being said I can't edit it (I wasn't logged in). So I will say that most of the five-star reviews sound very much like him and are likely not from real students.
The worst professor I ever had, he can make mistakes a lot, but we can not even one mistake, picky man
Great teacher and very passionate, it is very possible to ace this class. It requires an ample amount of effort and self studying but if you can do that you are assured an A. The exams are short 4-5 questions exams and will be VERY straightfoward only if you do the hw since its essentially copy paste problems with a little more complexity. GL!
The kind of professor who's there only for his pay and not his students. He deducts points for "mistakes" that he barely mentioned in class, makes exams unreasonably hard, and will deadass take off 60% of points for "Correct, but you used the wrong method" even though he doesn't specify what you're supposed to use. Take him if you want to fail.
He always had mistakes in his lecture, but he will not allows any mistakes on tests, homework, and quizzes, even missing a single symbol can result in significant point deductions. The homework load is also overwhelming—more in one month than in all my previous Citrus classes combined. If possible, change teachers!
I took him for three classes I don't think it's possible to get above a B in his classes
He is a very VERY picky grader. Any little mistake would take a LOT off of my grade for that particular assignment, resulting in a large grade drop.
None of my classes with him had any lectures, he only spends class time answering homework questions and you have to do all the learning on your own. EXTREMELY unforgiving, does not give ANY exceptions for test dates, no matter how valid a reason. One poorly timed emergency will cause you to have to retake the class.
Nightmare stay away from taking any classes with him in person or online a nightmare very very homework heavy and exams are 80% of your grade he is very tough grader very very tough and he don't teach he just solve hw questions he have no mercy and he don't care if 80% of the class fail his test very hard he just a bad teacher very bad
Likes military people will do literally anything to help a veteran pass. Not the smartest professor. Talks about how he was looking for a government job after military and how cal state la is better than UCLA because they failed him. Very dull person. Very weird incel energy. Warned against taking him, didn't think anything of it, boy was I wrong.
