I definitely do not recommend this professor. He expects us to know information that he has been studying for many years. He may seem like he is friendly but he is not a good teacher at all. I have asked him many questions and he gives me very vague answers. I will definitely be taking a different and BETTER teacher next semester!!!
The professor's style of teaching is geared towards those students who have a good understanding of statistics. As a result, I would not recommend this professor to those who have never taken a statistics class.
Honestly this professor is a great guy as a person, but sucks as a teacher. He expects for his students to be learning stats on his academic level. He flies by each lecture with only 1 or 2 examples (which is not enough to fully help one learn the material) and right when you get the hang of it, BAM the quizzes and test kill your grade. BEWARE!
LOTS of homework, ridiculously long project, 3 very long and difficult exams (not including the cumulative final), 3 quizzes. NO EXAM REVIEWS only worksheets that don't help for anything because he won't really explain things or answer questions. I recommend you just take stats at another college if all the other professors are full tbh.
No reviews!!!! 3 tough quizzes and 3 tough exam. PLUS a cumulative final. Again with NO REVIEW!! Hes insane.
This class is not an easy A. You definitely have to study to get a passing grade. Although his tests can be hard he honestly is lenient in grading the tests and quizzes and will try and give you points for trying. I feel like he is the best option in taking stats at MJC. The project is easy points. Just study and you'll pass!
Professor Navarro is a good guy u can tell he is passionate about teaching but truly he is just dummy smart and I feel that he think we are too when we aren't. Statistics is new to us while hes been studying it for years. He doesn't give any extra credit and whats more frustrating is that he doesn't give you any study guides. I would NOT recommend.
Professor Navarro is a funny guy but is not a good teacher. You can study for hours and the test and quizzes are nothing like the examples he teaches us. He does not give any reviews for any of the exams/final which is ridiculous. I recommend you take stats at another college if possible. I never struggled this badly with a class at MJC.
he is a teacher who doesnt teach. at first he was seemed okay, but when someone would ask him a question his response was, "refer to your notes" or "ask a classmate". So instead of him being like, "okay where you stuck" or "what problem you need help me guide you through". He might be a cool dude but he is not a great teacher.
He is a horrible teacher!! If you get a chance to get another professor chose them if not wait it out because you will NOT pass his class. He is not helpful at all not even in the class that is supposed to review the assignments or tests, but if you do ask him a question he will revert you to look in your notes or ask your classmates.
He is really nice. Tests are hard and theres no review or cheat sheets. The labs were pointless you just worked in groups on a paper he hands out. This class was so difficult and you can tell he's kind of new to teaching.
DO NOT take this professor. The lectures are fast with only 1 or 2 examples, the huge project he assigns in addition to the 2-3 hour long homework ridiculous, and he is not very helpful. He's not specific with directions on quizzes or exams, doesn't provide any study guides, etc. Thanks to this class, I am now a semester behind transferring.
This class is not easy! don't put in the effort & you WILL NOT PASS. I struggle with math alot and I visited Navarro in his office quite often. Any question I had, he answered. Many people did not put in the effort it required to pass the class. Lectures are long, there are no study guides, final is all ch.'s. Want my opinion? TAKE STATS ELSEWHERE!
He isnt a horrible teacher, but he isnt exactly a teacher I would recommend. His classes are just lectures and a lot of online homework (which was way too much). I personally did well in his class because I had already taken Stats in high school, which is unfair to the people who are taking it for the first time.
Now dont get me wrong, Navarro is a nice guy that you can tell has a passion for stats. Unfortunately hes probably the worst teacher I have ever had at MJC. Being a typical A/B student it was a slap in the face not passing his class. I recommend taking this class at a different school. If not do all the homework and STUDY HARD.
I found trig to be easier than this class. All lecture notes are fill in the blank and he can be extremely vague when answering questions. The extra lab class felt almost pointless, as he hands out worksheets and doesnt go over any of the questions. There is also zero exam review outside of lab. Studying is an absolute must to get by!
I took Professor Navarro 201 Fall 2018. I liked that he provided printable lectures and that for lectures you would essentially just follow along and make notes as you went. This class was difficult for me because of the word problems. Homework was long. I didn't finish it, but accessible until the end of the semester. I'd take him again.
the worst professor you can take for math. he has a fetish for trig so he shoves in it any chance he gets so if trig isn't your strongest subject then you will fail. examples and homework problems are barebones and he doesn't have study guides or even gives you the slightest hint what you should practice for the test so you are left in the dark.
He's one of those professors that will quiz/test you on things you've never seen before. The homework and lectures don't fully prepare you so beware. Also, make sure your Algebra/Trig are STRONG. That's what challenged me and many others. The Calculus is straightforward. Overall, nice Prof., but not the best option for Calc 1. His class is hard.
Just coming back here to rate this guy because thanks to him I am a whole year behind to transfer. Thankfully I didnt let him stop me, after receiving an F spring semester 2019, I decided to retake statistics at Shasta College over the summer. I passed with an A. This professor is really good at making you feel dumb, dont waste your time/money!
This class is no joke it's difficult and usually the hwk isn't really how to prepare for the exams. 3 Quizzes are easy, 3 test u have to study your notes and practice those examples. He's a young professor. My criticism for the class is I'd like to see maybe a study guide for some exams and a study guide for the final. Take a different professor.
You get an outline of the whole class on day one. Notes are printed from canvas (100 pgs the whole semester) He teaches straight from the book so reading before class is a must. HW is graded for completeness only. Exams/quizzes are not unreasonable. Ask questions! This is a hard class no matter the professor. Be strong in Algebra, Geometry, & Trig!
He does not know how to teach at all. If you ask for an example he will just continue on with his lecture because he cannot give examples. It does not seem like he actually knows what he is talking about ever and is never clear about anything. I would not recommend him to anyone because you are pretty much teaching yourself.
the worst professor ever , literally the only way to get partial credit on tests is to be a teacher's pet. one student had the complete wrong answer but only had one point deducted, but turn around and other students in the same situation got no credit at all. his lectures are ill prepared so sometimes he doesn't know the answers in examples!
He spends far to long explaining the easy concepts at the beginning of the semester, and speeds through the tough stuff at the end of the semester. The online home work does not match the lecture, so you spend twice as long teaching yourself how to do the homework. Luckily he keeps the test true to the lecture.
Professor Navarro is a very nice person, but he falls short in his ability to teach. Each concept gets only one example and when questions are asked he tends to talk in circles or may simply ignore the question and move on to the next bit of material. He assigns a lot of homework which , more often than not, is not covered in his lectures.
His lecture style is painfully awkward, asking him a question just makes you feel awkward and stupid. His quizes are worth 40% of your grade and they have on average 2-4 questions so miss one and you're already looking at a D if not an F. He made you memorize things that are usually reference info.
The class that I had with him was cal-171. He is a very hard grader, a lot of homework, he doesn't drop quizzes or tests. His lectures are boring, To be honest, he doesn't know how to teach, I don't know how he got to this position. He's definitely not to the level to teach at a college. In my class, almost everyone failed his class. Don't take him
I wish I had better things to say about him, but his class and the way he grades is really unreasonable and stupid. 65 percent of your grade is only the exams. so good luck taking him.
Had a great semester even with the Corona virus Mr. Navarro prepared the class with notes, Youtube videos, and made himself accessible. Calculus is tough and you have to make an effort to pass, but Navarro did everything you would need him to do in order to learn the material and pass with a good grade.
I have never rated a professor ever but I felt the need to come on here to say avoid taking him if you can! I tried to put up with him the first month, second and third but couldn't take it any longer. The "support class" u signed up for? No support at all! He wants you to figure it all out yourself. Not understandable if u have family emergencies.
he was the worst professor i've had! please don't take him, choose a different professor. whenever i would ask questions he would answer them vaguely. when i asked him if i was doing the work correctly he would say yes but then would later say no.... like????????? save yourself and take someone else.
Stats is my arch nemesis. Prof Navarro is VERY THOROUGH and gives excellent study guides for test. The supportive class allowed a cushion to learn with other students. He adjusted to the covid online hell we all got trapped in with great care to post lectures, notes and study guides way ahead of time. He is a compliment to MJC.
Professor Navarro was the best math teacher I have ever taken. Statistics for me felt easier than Algebra but that is because of how Professor Navarro teaches. Ask lots of questions and attend every lecture and Im sure youll get a good grade.
While sitting in these long lectures classes you will learn something, however when you do your assigned homework I find that we don't learn whats in the homework at all. Often times you will take the lower grade in homework just to complete it for some credit rather than none. The frustration with this professor is unreal.i wouldn't recommend this
this professor is not up to par with teaching classes. you should really honestly save yourself from taking his class. save yourself the money. this teacher is anything but that. truly couldn't believe how uncooperative he is. refuses to work with you if you have a busy schedule. get a bad grade on the project for class and you'l fail the semester
awesome professor, be prepared to absorb a lot.
jesus navarro should not be teaching. he will refuse to answer your questions if he answered them before even if you werent there. majority of his examples are sports heavy so if you dont understand sports especially baseball YOU WILL BE LOST! his lectures are prepared beforehand, but dont ask questions bc he doesnt know how to answer them
I would grade him an F- on the fact he doesn't have study guides to prepare for his exams. That's really my only complaint other than that he has skeleton notes which is cool. But if he wants students getting As in his class needs to have study guides for his exams. If you put in the work you'll get a B not an A.
Statistics is a difficult class for anyone. I took Professor Navarro's Math-134 class over the summer. In order to pass this class you must show up everyday (he is understanding if things happen), participate in the group assignments, do all of the homework assignments, and you will easily pass the class. He's a great teacher, reviews here are off.
Professor Navarro was fun energetic and passionate about Math. He made it very easy to get back into it! Beware the hmk is NOT what you're tested on but that's even better because the lectures are a lot easier to understand, also he allows to go back through hmk and get full credit, you just have to put in the work. Do that, participate, get an A
He has too many assignments on Pearson. Doesn't seem to want to answer questions students have. Overall for a younger teacher you would think he would teach the material according to the exam and hwk. The hwk is different to what his lectures are and it's annoying. Hopefully he changes the amount of hwk he gives.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. His shortest time to respond to one of my emails was two weeks, he doesn't even teach in his zoom meetings because he spends most of his time trying to figure out how to solve the problem he made. No redos on any work and no extra credit. I would spend WEEKS studying for his exams and still get bad grades.
The professor is brilliant and great, and he understands how to make math enjoyable and fascinating for students.
This professor just does not care about his students. He will jump over problems without explanation of what he did, does not offer extra credit or a possibility to bring up your grade, and is very unethical when it comes to posting assignments or grading.
This class was difficult but I managed. His grading criteria isn't entirely based on getting the right answer; rather he grades based on how well you can do the problem. His exams are difficult, though questions usually come from previous semester exams or on the notes and homework. Exams have at least 1 word problem. Know your Trig! No open notes.
Lots of notes but he explains in detail, just pay attention and ask questions. Some quizzes are take home. Sometimes he can give quite a lot of homework but it's to better your skills
I would honestly not recommend this professor at all. He was horrible at explaining the topics to the class. He tested the class on items that were not even brought out in our book or lectures. He expects the class to only focus on his homework while all of us are taking other classes besides calculus.
DONT TAKE THERE IS A REASON FOR SUCH LOW RATINGS! Tough grader and the tests and quizzes do not match the notes or homework.
People who lack work ethic will find Navarro's style challenging. Study hard, reach out to him, form study groups/get tutoring, and show that you care and he will truly meet you where you're at. He is mindful when it comes to grading tests and gives reasonable partial credit. I miss him!
he has been my hardest professor please do not take try and find other sections. He has no room for understanding your situation and is passive-aggressive and no makeup, very tough grader, no extra credit.
His teaching is just awful. He gets off topic easily and doesn't take his time to explain the problems. He goes through the chapters fast and the lectures are different from the homework online. He is a tough grader. There's no point in asking questions because he will not know how to answer it. Save your time and money. I will not recommend.
Jesus Navarro is a really, really good professor!! Makes lots of jokes. Helps you in your future career. Gives lots of stories of his own college days. Tests are exactly the same difficulty as the homework. Always wants questions and he is always ready to give educated answers. Willing to try students' ways of solving problems even if its longer.
I really do not understand why Navarro has such bad ratings, he explains every lecture clearly, his exams are from literally questions straight from the book, and although he may give a lot of homework at times, if you actually do them, you'll be a pro at that topic. I had zero problems with this class and am excited for calc 3 with him next fall.
Take this class at another college. I retook it over summer and past it with an A. He does not care for regular student success. I went to office hours and he was not helpful he was very much learn it on your own. Exams were extremely difficult and had questions that were not on the homework.
this professor is brutal. gives out too much homework, and no notes for exams. although he is a lenient grader when it comes to exams, he is also not the best at teaching the subject. i only passed because i took the class before
I took Prof. Navarro for both Calc 2 and 3. He does give a lot of work, but it helps you to master the material. He always provides a skeleton note packet. His Calc 2 class was excellent; he explained every example with great detail... not so much for Calc 3. When in doubt, always go to his office hours for help, read the textbook, or watch videos.
if you miss class, be prepared to fall behind. he clearly loves what he teaches and as long as you show up and do the hw/ notes, you will be good, there's a quiz and exam for every chapter and only like 3.5 chapters we went over. the hw is a lot harder than the exams so if you understand the hw for the most part, you will be good for the exam.
Professor Navarro is very emotional person. He usually takes it personal if you do not show up to his classes. Even tho attendance is not mandatory, he marks you off if you do not show up to some of his classes. As for Integration Bee, if you do not attend it he will mark you off in your quizzes and tests for absolute no-good reason.
Gives a lot of homework but the exam problems are very similar to the homework. He gives you an outlined note packet for lecture but his explanations could be a bit better. Very passionate about calc 2 and is funny.
I feel like people give him low ratings because upper level math classes are difficult and take time/effort to learn. If you're taking this class then you're on the path to taking other equally challenging classes. He's just trying to set you up to be successful in those. He's a genuine and caring person who gives clear lectures on hard topics
Honestly he should be given a 0.He was not a good professor when it came to understanding unexpected events.Just know if anything ever happens to you and you are unable to attend class, he does not care for your academic wellbeing.Even if you get all your notes and computer stolen out of your car, he will still refuse to give you any lecture notes.
Very rude and doesn't know what he is doing in his lectures. If he likes you, he will give you free points in exams; otherwise will cut points for no reason, he is also a very emotional teacher.
The problem with these ratings is that most of these people did not have the worth ethic required to succeed. I studied every day to earn my grade and I understood everything because I put in the work. If you won't dedicate hours of your day everyday for this class, you will not make it, that's what required anyway. Toughen up lol.
He's a really good professor and is clearly passionate about what he teaches. Be prepared to do a lot of self study because he only goes over the foundation of the topics during lectures. He's really good at providing what you need to feel prepared for self study sessions and is easy on grading with homework.
Such a great professor! I disagree with the negative reviews here. He is really good at teaching and his lectures are so engaging because he explains things very patiently. The content is hard of course but that's why you must study a lot. I recommend you study before hand so you get a head start when the lecture comes. Other than that he is cool!
He knows his subject but struggles to teach it. Instead of explaining things, he often tells students to ask their classmates. His lack of preparation can make the class confusing and useless. if you want to learn in class, it's better to choose a different professor.
As a person who struggles with math this teacher was not the best option. I wished I looked more into reviews before taking this class. Long lectures that feel rushed and half of the time he doesn't know what he's doing. Comes with 2 "support classes" but only does groups on one of the days and the rest is just catching up on his notes.
His way of teaching is not for everyone. You really have to put the effort in order to pass the class. He gave lots of opportunities to students and I honestly don't think he's so bad like everyone says. He will do pop quizzes if he starts noticing that students start to not show up but they're fairly easy credit points.
Professor Navarro is a difficult professor due to that multiple times he shows up unprepared, which makes the class not helpful but rather a waste of time.
ok,lots of self learning involved
Not so hard of a class, the professor is kinda rude and has bunch of anime fnaf stuff in his office. I finished with an 89.7. Only got a B because I had health issues... Not hardest class in the world just hope you're on his good side, his lectures suck though. Not curving an 89.7 to an A is crazy.
This professor is awful at his job. Talk about creating the engineers of tomorrow. This guy will set you up to fail and not get your degree. I truly hope this guy gets reprimanded for not helping his students pass.
If you actually have a desire to learn very good prof, but if you just want to show up and collect an A this is not the class for you. Requires thought, studying, and application. Lazy people will fail this class
I came back here and checked on him, whoever gave him bad reviews. They must be lazy. You are in college. If you fail, you should not blame the Professor. He is a very nice professor, and English is my second language. His lecture was easy to follow. His exam is very similar to the assignment that he gives u in the lecture.
Professor Navarro is a great person, but not the greatest at teaching. He's the type of professor that explains things as if you have the same knowledge as him. He's very nice if you need clarification, but sometimes the explanation will leave you even more confused. There was also lots of homework, but it was honestly really helpful before exams!!
This Professor should not get to be a Professor because he refuses to teach his students, he just expects them to know everything. He is a very harsh grader and does not give credit where it is due. He is not fair at all. He does not grade based upon the work a student does, he gives people bad grades if doesn't like them.
The homework helps a lot with the material on the quizzes and exams so reviewing it is important. If the subject is not making sense, the tutors in the library are a great help. Professor Navarro also has office hours, which are the best place to go if the problem is too complicated. Math is difficult but the class is not impossible to pass.
Not the best instructor. Needs to work on communication a bit. Truly cares about teaching though and seems genuine about it. Room for improvement.
Professor Navarro is a very nice guy, very soft spoken. If you struggle with math, I will say that Navarro does have his pros and cons. Navarro is quite lenient on tests, and he will give you half credit on a question if you have some of it right.I will say his teaching style can be confusing at times but as long as you apply yourself you will pass
Professor Navarro clearly has passion for doing and teaching math, and it shows. I've really enjoyed his classes. His lectures are long, but invaluable. The homework is online; you have infinite tries to get answers right until it's due. Skeleton notes provide an amazing foundation to return to. Apply yourself, study, and you'll pass this class.
I took Math112 and Math33 with Professor Navarro for my Spring2025 semester and it was awful. I was already not a strong math student but MULTIPLE of my peers were struggling big time as well. Almost half the class dropped before the halfway point in the semester. He has the “if you fail it's not my fault” overall doesn't care about his students.
I like this prof, yes hes a tough grader/no extra credit, doesnt weight grade, but as long as you do and finish the homework youll be good. HW is pretty similar to exams too. This class forces you to be disciplined and work hard, theres also a ton of help, office hours, tutors, you will pass.
This Professor teaches his students a lot. He is very smart in Math. I would take him again.
