Attempts to have open discussions. Highly tempermental. Interesting class topics, however you must read the material and pay attention to the lectures (Which can be hard to pay attention to being that he reads directly off of a lecture sheet with a slight spanish accent).
Take another history instructor if you can... instructor canceled class and sent everyone home in the second week of class because he thought someone was yawning?! Not very well lectured, presentation poor. Class was continuously told his other class was better, and instructor went on tirade talking about his personal life- instead of teaching.lect
Very interesting class learned lots of useful material, will take this professor again!
Dr. Perez is very knowledgeable! His lectures are well prepared and he runs his class at a high standard! If you?re a good student, you?ll do great! I highly recommend him! Finally, pay close attention to his lectures and take many notes!
He picks a fun, controversial, interesting syllabus. He makes you think. His lectures get the main points across in a easy way to digest. Keep up with the reading if you don't your screwed. He has an extremely high standard on using resources he provided. Do not make a point that you can't site he hates that.
Great teacher! I learned a lot and would definitely take another class with him! Highly recommended if you want to actually learn, maybe not an easy A but worth it!
If I hadn't liked the subject this class would have been much more difficult then it was for me. This teacher lectures a lot and give you a lot of information that can be overwealming. He requires a lot at times from his students, difficult but not too difficult....a teacher that not everyone will like but I enjoyed.
This teacher is very temperamental, some weeks we do absolutely nothing and others I'm so overwhelmed I'm ready to cry. He's friendly and approachable but can be unfair and unclear. I don't think I'd take him again
Horrible. The only word that can explain this class. Perez doesn't know anything about History, probably he is good only in immigrating stuff. All his classes are presentations on powerpoint plus some boring documentary anti-historical movies. His jokes are stupid. Because of his accent it is hard to understand what he says.
Dr. Perez is an excellent instructor. He is well prepared, very knowledgable and approachable. If you are a good student, you will have absolutely no issue doing well. All of the bad ratings were written by students who do not appreciate good instructors who actually teach you something and spend hours daily to prepare for their lectures.
At first he seemed like just a mean person but he definitively is knowledgeable in History and will definitively show you a side of history, you never seen. Lectures are really useful and not at all boring. Only problem is that you take three exams in this class that represent 75% of your grade, so if you screw one up, you are basically done.
Boring class. Perez reads verbatim from a powerpoint and isn't interesting/engaging. We watched many unnecessarily long movies which should have been left to watch@home on our own time. Enables students to repeat ideas, and get way off track. Class fell way behind on material. Never really addressed books in class. Very aimless class decisi
Dr. Perez US Hist. Class was quite fun. He does like his powerpoints, but his knowledge of the subject is top rate. Pay attention and you will learn! Interact and you will enjoy the class! I would recommend this class to other students.
his lectures can be interesting but boring a lot of the time. reading the text book is the best way to learn and do well on the tests. if your uninterested in history this class will suck..alot. No quizzes or homework which is great just keep up on the reading tests are super easy he doesnt grade hard on tests or paper.
Dr. Perez likes his lectures and exams, but I learned a lot from this course. The readings were all useful and related to what we were learning in class. The exams accounted for 75% of the total grade in the course I took, but if you study well (I recommend flashcards)and do all the readings you should be fine. I would definitely recommend him.
Really enthusiastic teacher. His lectures are interesting. If you're an engaging student i recommend this teacher. Might come off as a strict teacher on the first week of class but you'll see he really isn't. Just stick with the reading and you'll do fine. Reading is very minimal, and his lectures relate to the textbook.
He's reallly passionate about what he teaches, he's really funny and helpful and understanding if you talk to him. My only problem was all the reading. If you do all of the reading and show up to class and pay attention you'll do fine. There are a couple of papers to write. Just make sure you do ALL readings and ask questions!
anyone who says that perez is too tough obviously doesn't pay attention in class. literally all it takes to do well in this guys class is to pay attention and give good effort on the movie reviews. everything you do in class ultimately helps you for the tests
He is just an all around great teacher. Very passionate about what he teaches and motivates you to want to learn more. He made me feel like I wanted to and could make a difference in the world. I would love love love to take another class with him.
I would definitely recommend taking this class. For people like me, that have a hard time remembering history, Perez is the perfect teacher! He teaches in an intense way that helps you remember everything. But PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS because if you miss one day, his power points won't help- they're mostly pictures.
Jesus Perez is a great teacher. He's always enthusiastic during the lectures. He's hilarious too. He drops f bombs in every class haha. He's really helpful and answers all your questions. He's somewhat of a difficult grader but, just show up and pay attention in class and his class shouldn't be too hard. And it's an easy homework load as well.
Love Dr. Perez! He's very knowledgeable and passionate. I loved the textbook as well... plus it's cheap! He incorporates contemporary examples to discuss historical events. Learned a lot about America's untold history, fascinating. One of my fav. professors!
Dr. Perez's syllabus looks organized, but he can be a little unclear. He assigns movies, which he sometimes shows in class and sometimes doesn't. He doesn't say if he's going to show the movie in class or not, or how to find the movies he doesn't show. If you find two with the same title (which happens) there's no way of knowing which one.
quiet nice. his class just boring. But i guarantee you can pass this with your eyes closed. #jk
Lectures forever, extremely liberal and bashes on republicans throughout every single class. Not an objective professor you will here only the liberal side of arguments about politics
Perez is clear and has powerpoints that will glide you through the quarter. It's a good idea to take notes, but if you don't, you can always view them online. The tests are a bit much, but if you know most of your stuff you'll do okay. He has a ton of readings but I did fine not reading anything. Very insightful!
If you get offended easily dont sign up for his class. He may come across hateful toward whites, although he claims he is not. Lots of reading but no quiz on it. His test was over rated. He gives a study guide and if you follow it to the letter you will get an A. Pay attention in class, take notes, and smooth sailing from there on out
Amazing teacher! Jesus is a very funny guy, he tends to relate his lectures to our world's current event. Pay attention in class or at least pay attention to the first half of the quarter.
Fun in class but unclear on grading scale. We didn't know our grade until we have our transcript.
Dr. Perez is fun, accurate and knowledgeable. His lectures contain current examples of topics. Movies are watched at home and class time is for lectures, an efficient approach. Dr. Perez is approachable, encourages questions, friendly and sincere. Only criticism is that I wish he'd give more feedback on grades, but exceptions this quarter.
Dr. Perez is a really warm-hearted man who is very passionate about history. In his classroom you will see nothing but respect and acceptance from him regardless of what your background is, and will expect nothing less from his students in return. He is hilarious, respectable, and is an overall great teacher I would recommend to anyone.
He is a teacher who cares about his students' success and brings his humor and/or passion to every unit of the class.
Dr. Perez is a very passionate historian with memorable lectures containing great information. Put your phones away. Participation matters so use your voice - he won't bite your head of.
Dr. Perez is a decent professor that is clearly passionate about the subjects he discusses in his lectures. His powerpoints are really vague, so if you miss class it's hard to catch up based off just the powerpoints. The bad thing was that he doesn't put anything in the gradebook and you don't know your grade till it's on your transcript.
He's incredibly smart, you just have to open your mind and ask yourself why is he showing me this. Go to class and give him your undivided attention, he will give you knowledge in exchange, it's a fair trade.
I took this class Specifically because of Professor Perez, "I only looks Illegal" shirt is amazing. Take his class you will learn so much about America and how messed up it can be.
He does not give back assignments or post grades. You only find out your grade after classes have finished and it's in your transcripts. I found this extremely difficult to learn if you do not know what you are doing wrong.
He does not return assignments, nor provide applicable grades. After asking to get my assignments back and applicable grades he only offered to give back one exam. He didn't even calculate my final grade properly; I had to go to the dean and have it changed to the right grade. Make sure you ask to get all your assignments and grades from him.
Jesus proved to be unprofessional and temperamental. He did not create a safe class environment where people could express views different than his. He made claims that that were unsubstantiated, and did not cite his sources in his power-points. In addition, he also got behind on the syllabus due to his frequent rants and tangents.
Unprofessional and rude. Many of his lectures are just powerpoints of plagiarized information and he likes to insert his bias into every lesson. Instructions are unclear and his syllabus is usually incorrect due to the amount of time it takes him to get through a single lesson.
I had him for a learning community, and he wasn't great. He goes off topic for at least 30 minutes at a time, which is good when you're bored and want to zone out or work on other class work. Long lectures with terrible powerpoints, but is a nice guy.
There is nothing that would make me regret taking his class. Perez made me less of an ignorant person and I learned so much from him that I will not forget. As a person who always uses RMP I can say that the reviews on here are not an accurate representation of what a wonderful teacher he is. I respect him a lot and encourage you to take his class
This teacher often showed up late at least five minutes to class. He didn't stay on subject and strayed from the syllabus. Completely unprofessional.
Dr. Perez is extremely inspirational, & his lectures aren't intended to attack white people!! (His wife is white and his children are mixed). Didn't do any of the readings & got an A on the final however make sure you DO read the book for the group presentation && try to speak up! He's super chill & great. Sidenote-- he won't post grades. At all.
You'll have to get books you won't even use. Most of his lecture are just videos. Boring class.
I regret taking this class, this teacher is loud and rude. Only take him if you need to.
This teacher is a horrible representation of Cascadia. He has a huge chip on his shoulder and as a result does not let others share views that differ from his. I did not feel safe in his classroom.
This guy is the most unprofessional teacher. He doesn't want to hear any views that are different than his. He doesn't give you grades back and doesn't support his claims. His power-points are copied and pasted from websites without citations. This guy clearly doesn't have the knowledge or credentials to work at college level.
I've taken 3 of Dr. Perez's classes because he's hilarious and he knows his stuff. His power points are text heavy which can make it hard to look at. He has his own style and he'll challenge you to think outside the box. If you get offended easily and are close minded, you won't learn anything in this class. Otherwise he's awesome!
When I started in this class I wanted to drop it. I thought Perez was abrasive and judgmental. But as I stayed in the class I started to gain insights on his life. He was a very inspiration teacher. READ THE BOOKS!!! If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class. He makes you work for it, but it will be a great feeling of accomplishment!
This guy makes claims that aren't true, yells at students, and comes to class late consistently. He can't even follow his own syllabus. This guy doesn't respect his students and likes to feel like he's in control.
This was my 2nd time taking a class of his, and I regret it. There isn't much new material between his 150 and 268 class, just reiteration of his opinions. He frequently says, "I'm not making this up", but doesn't cite anything. We read the novel, but never touched the textbook. Please fact check him! Aggressive, confrontational, tardy, rude.
Dr. Pérez changed my major all together. His passion and knowledge in history and international relations was contagious, and it was a real eye opener. I continued to work with him throughout my time at Cascadia. If you care about the material and put in the time to learn it, you will do great!
His lectures DO have citations. He DOES use the textbook. Not only he gives you facts, he connects them to our daily lives. He shows you why knowing history matters so much, how it still affects our society. Most of the time people prefer to ignore the reality. He likes to tell the truth, take it even if it's too much to handle.
I went into Professor Perez's class skeptical due to the other reviews. Fortunately, most were inaccurate. Perez is a very knowledgeable instructor and shows real interest in the subjects. He also provides great feedback. His teaching style is easy to comprehend and the workload isn't too much. I'd take him for every history class if I could.
One of the best professors I've ever had. His story is inspirational, and his passion for teaching is obvious. Take his class with an open mind and thick skin and you will learn a lot. Not for snowflakes.
Perez is a horrible representation of the liberal party, a horrible role model, with absolutely no credibility to his lectures or statements. How he became the head of the history department at cascadia is a mystery to me. With that being said, this was the easiest 4.0 I ever got at cascadia. Take his class for a boost.
Dr. Perez is very knowledgable and passionate about history. If you come to class with an open mind and participate you will learn a lot. He teaches a different side of U.S. history that everyone should have to learn about, and doesn't sugar coat anything. He's a really nice guy who wants his students to succeed in his class because they care.
Perez is the worst teacher ever. He does not allow students to share views that differ from his. He is completely disrespectful, and is a very poor representation of what Cascadia stands for. Avoid this class at all costs and save the time and money.
Classes were interesting and centered around popular culture/current events. He uses a lot of videos and media clips from current events, and shares his opinion/facts connected to the course work. Grading:he only has 1 test, 1 group project, and movie reviews. You have to be on top of your work for a good grade. Participation matters.
you won't have a lot of daily homework, but its absolutely key to do the weekly assignments bc he will call on you and make you share one with the class when you least expect it. the midterm and final were easy for me but, save yourself the trouble and do the weekly assignments each week bc the final is basically just putting them all together :)
El profesor Perez es el mejor profesor que he tenido en Cascadia. Muy profesional, muy apasionado con su trabajo. Sobre todo muy humano. The best one!
If you just take the work load, Perez is by no means bad at all. There were very few assignments, and while they weren't easy they weren't that bad either. However, in his lectures he really really likes to talk about how awful white people are, and even gets angry as he's lecturing sometimes. That's pretty much all he talked about, but hey, easy A
Is a pretty easy grader. His class involved lectures and video clips from different standpoints, He is not bias he just teaches the history that we do not often get to learn about. So keep an open mind. There are movie reviews and one group project and partcipation matters very much. The only thing is he does not put in any grades until afterwards.
PROS: The content is worth it all. Everyone should take this class for the knowledge you gain. CONS: Not always a friendly learning environment, especially in the beginning. He can be quite abrasive at times and a unnecessarily cynical to students. Assignments given last minute. A bit of a hypocrite with the facts v. opinions - he gives both.
it is currently 2 weeks before the quarter is due to be over and he hasnt graded anything. He tends to assign big projects and makes them due the next class period. We have done 4 assignments this quarter. While that isnt much, he assigns so much to do in a short time. People say hes racist against white people, he isnt. I wouldnt take him again.
To start off with he does not hate white people, many people think this due to the subject matter of History 150. He's a nice guy who genuinely cares. Our grade was 40% midterm, 40% final project, 10% participation and 10% assignments. You must show up and take notes to do well on the midterm. Easy class if you put in the effort.
I'd like to start out by saying I learned more in this class than I have in any other class I've ever taken! Prof. Perez is a good guy and he really knows what he's talking about. The only graded assignments are some movie reviews, the exam, and a group presentation. Just show up to class and pay attention to the lectures and you'l l pass easily.
I never mind when a professor swears every so often but I have very little respect for the ones who swear every other word like Perez. I struggled to take him seriously and he acted like he didnt even want to teach the class. I would not recommend him whatsoever, his personality is not fit for being a professor.
He does not use the canvas grade book, so you don't know what your grade is until the quarter is over. If you take this course you will be exposed to material that really makes you think about religion; this class alone converted me to agnostic. There are only a few assignments over the quarter, but each one counts for a lot so don't mess up.
Perez has very interesting lectures and leads active class discussion. Funny guy and keeps the class lighthearted. Pay very very close attention to grading criteria on written work, since any deviation from it will hurt your grade badly.
Dr. Pérez focuses on historically oppressed groups and links it to modern-day injustices. He isnt over-the-top SJW and doesnt force things down your throat as other professors do. Final grade is based on participation (10%), exam (40%), presentations (40%), and 4 movie reviews (10%). Pay attention in class and follow directions and youll do well
Took him before for a history class. Passed with a 3.9. Took him again for globalization, and got a 2.9, even though he taught with the exact same info. Lots of readings and pointless journals that he didnt even give clear grading on, just random checks and scratches, not even a score. Uploaded my grades 1 week into next quarter.
he never talked about any of the assignments we were supposed to do for class. Few people got them done. He doesn't use canvas, he posts the grade once the Quarter is over. He gets irritated easily. I really liked his lectures though. He is very passionate on the subject and is great at teaching, it would just be nice to get a reminder once.
Professor Perez was a really interesting teacher. Quiet honestly, this class was easily one of the easiest history classes I have ever taken. There was only one midterm that you needed to study for which he graded easily. There were also about 3-4 movie reviews which had a simple set of questions to go along with it. So up and you'll pass.
I highly discourage anyone from taking this class. Perez is very one-sided in his approach to globalization, and is not afraid to share his negative opinions on religion and conservative viewpoints. The documentaries and powerpoints were indoctrinating and very biased. Also, he does not clearly communicate your grades in any manner during the class
I learned more in one quarter of Dr. Pérezs class than I did in all of my high school history classes. I LOVED this class. The class was mostly based on lecture, but there are assigned readings also. Dr. Pérez does swear and is very strict on phone use, so if you have a problem with that I would not take his classes.
Professor Perez is well educated & understands the complexities of the content he teaches. His lectures are what I can only describe as "High Intensity". The class is mostly lecture based. The assignments are difficult but any college-level student should be able to complete them just fine. I enjoyed the class, I can understand why others didn't.
Dr. Perez is a nice guy and a great lecturer with compassionate approaches to each student. He is definitley liberal, but his class teachings show the dark side of US history. He was tolerant of my belief in Jesus , even though we had different views. Conservative or Christian? Take the class, you'll learn a lot despite some bits of leftism!
When I say lecture heavy, I mean hours long of repetitive stuff. Participation was 10%, which required constant thoughtful responses. Work isn't that hard, but it very hard to work with the teacher. He always post assignments late so you would only have a day or two to do it. He grades things weeks later. Be prepared to be stressed
A lot of people on this site are calling Dr. Perez a bad teacher, but I disagree. His lectures were interesting, and that is coming from a person who does not enjoy history. He does not teach a whitewashed history, which is something that I appreciate and that I suspect a lot of people on here dislike. If you don't want the truth, don't sign up.
If you think it's fair for a professor to have class materials only available for limited periods of time, and not accept late work under /any/ circumstances (even during a pandemic), this class is a great choice. Dr. Perez is extremely difficult to get a hold of, and many assignments are difficult to understand. The material is easy enough though.
Absolutely no communication with this guy. Waited over two weeks for a response to something important regarding the class, sent on multiple platforms, before giving up. This is a rather unforgiving class setup that is very inconvenient for people with day jobs and other things. Guilt trips when students are unable to attend last minute meetings.
If you are truly interested in learning, TAKE THIS CLASS. The negative reviews here come from a strong bias towards history that is not white-washed. He is ALWAYS helpful and very knowledgeable. The people who left negative reviews clearly arent accountable for their learning. He ALWAYS offers 1 on 1 Zoom sessions and responds to emails fast.
Right off the bat, I think this is a class that needs to be taken in person in order to get the "full" experience. Homework is rather unclear and it can be quite difficult to get an actual helpful response when one is necessary. The material is neat though. Professor Perez has good insights on what he's teaching, but the outlet is not suitable.
This is a good class! But not the right person to teach it. Assignments are uploaded extremely close to the due dates, Prof Perez is nearly impossible to get a hold of, and in general everything feels extremely rushed (a myriad of typos/errors within assignments and lectures makes this class feel like it's not something the professor cares about).
Professor releases 2 two-hour long lectures a week, although they have essentially no value as he assigns 2 page single-space essays every week (4 days in advance, I might add) that are based off of separate films that he asks you to watch. He takes days to reply to emails, so expect to be frustrated. Also takes weeks to grade any assignments.
This class was such a waste of my time. The lectures had nothing to do with what he assigned for homework or what he did for the final. Every lecture was 2 hours long minimum. There were only 6 assignments plus the final so definitely do the work. Also if he put the word "optional" IT NOT DO THE WORK!! He doesn't answer messages fast at all.
Great professor who gives a lot of insight into the dark side of American History. Learned a lot about the details of America's past. Assigned 2 hour-long lectures to watch every week with a 1-2 page essay to write about a documentary. No quizzes, but there was "required" reading. The professo is great, but make sure to be on top of assignments.
I really like Dr. Pérez as a person, but I cant recommend his classes as an online professor. He rarely responds to emails. Each week there were 4 hours of lectures, assigned reading, journal entries and two page essays. For an elective, its a ridiculous amount of work and there is minimal feedback on student progress until after midterms.
Four hours of lecture a week is never great, but Prof. Perez makes his lectures amazing and eye-opening; he gave me so much to think about. He can be a bit slow to respond to emails and grade assignments, but when he does he is really thoughtful about it. He wants his class to be as valuable as possible and he does a great job with that.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. You don't get your grades until the very end of the quarter, so you wont see your final grade until its on your transcript. Your lucky if its entered correctly, if it isn't trying to get in contact with him is nearly impossible. Extremely frustrating to be stressing about your overall grade all quarter.
Dr. Perez knows what he is talking about in his lectures. I took this over the summer so the quarter was shorter. The lectures are 2 hours long, and you're required to write a 2, one pager paper per week. It's hard to get a hold of him if you have questions, but he makes clear what he is asking from us.
Prof Perez was one of my favorite educators I have known. He is extremely passionate about history, and you will learn more here than a typical US history course. He uploads assignments to canvas late, but if you watch the lectures as assigned you will know what comes up. Lots of film and book analysis, time-consuming but easy for any smart student
First two weeks he didn't assign anything, then randomly sent out an email saying we had a paper due. His lectures are 2 hours long, twice a week and are not very useful. It feels like he is just talking to talk. There are lots of papers about documentaries, some of which can be hard to watch. He is nice but doesn't create a clear task (no rubrics)
after enrolling it was extremely hard to get a hold of him for lecture related questions. He never responded to anything nor gave feedback on essays. I had classmates messaging me with the same concerns and we didn't receive more than half of our assignments' grades until after the end of the quarter. Don't take his class it's not worth the stress.
I had a heart attack from the sheer excitement I had learning about history in his class. Professor Perez hopped on the table and performed open heart surgery to save my life using his own beating heart, which he ripped out of his chest. Im so thankful he saved me. Great guy.
Prof. Perez was incredibly rude. He was very unclear on the instructions for a final project. It took CCing the dean in an email for Prof. Perez to respond to my ignored emails (after 2 weeks) when I needed a grade change on my transcript he promised before my transfer applications were due. Easily the most unprofessional professor I’ve ever had.
The lectures were hard to sit through and the class was very disorganized, which is not something you want from an asynchronous class. His canvas was practically empty, you were supposed to find all of the information from the syllabus (that didn't have any useful information until after the covid procedures and school rules, so 11/15 pages in).
Prof. Perez is very good depending on the teaching style that you like the most. He is very passionate about what he teaches and sometimes, he can be harsh. He is not afraid to call people out in class so if you are nervous about that, I wouldn't take him. He is a very nice teacher and the workload is not hard at all.
I took this class to fill a requirement and don't have much personal interest in history. Dr. Perez's class was very easy. Has long lectures, but they aren't too important. 5 film analyses plus a final project, none of which were hard. Make sure to get EVERYTHING in on time, or else you won't get a good grade. Very hard to get in touch with him.
Good person and passionate about history! I enjoyed the lectures! Sadly would not take his class again because assignments were unclear, he was hard to reach, and often posted assignments late. No grades posted until very end of quarter, which was extremely stressful and meant no feedback. In-person may be better, but he is not organized online.
The professor is hard to reach & doesn't respond to emails. Class feels disorganized and assignments are often unclear. The class has very long lectures. It's very stressful taking this class - there is very little feedback and you won't know your grade until later in the quarter. I wouldn't recommend taking an online class with this professor.
Very passionate. Interesting curriculum. But TERRIBLE communicator. Rarely answers emails. Every 9 days- a 2 page, single spaced essay was due. Long documentaries and readings. Also gave useless 2 hr lectures twice a week. Self-learning heavy class. No exams. Typos on assignments and no rubrics. 2 month late gradings and no feedback.
This class contained long lectures that were very annoying to watch and the assignments didn't have much to do with the lectures anyways. You could probably get away with not watching all of the lectures. Takes long to grade assignments but overall wasn't difficult, just annoying.
Perez is a very passionate professor but be prepared for some profanity. I personally really liked him; he was funny and made the class very interesting. Cons: not easy to communicate, he waits until the end of the quarter to grade, and the assignments can be a little hard to understand. Just show up to class and you'll be fine.
he is a great professor in regards to passion of learning ... but other than that he is so bad at responding to emails and publishing assignments, is overall unorganized. he is very passionate abt his lectures but at times he talks so much that we are unable to move on from one topic to another.
Jesus is an interesting professor. His lectures were interesting however, his lectures usually had nothing to do with the assignments. every week he'd assign a film for us to analyze and forced us to write a 2-paged single space essay analysis on them everytime. The analysis were typically pretty easy to write, but they got annoying fast.
He is extremely passionate about history but is VERY disorganized and unpredictable. He never responded to my emails or anyone else's that I know of.
He would go on random rants during class. Lectures don't really have anything to do with the assignments. He also doesn't grade assignments for a while. Very passionate about history however, I've noticed some historical inaccuracies. Also if you miss more than 2 classes, it's an automatic fail.
Professor Perez was very passionate about history and I enjoyed watching all of his lectures, although they were often too long. He rarely updates Canvas or communicates with students on time, & he also grades assignments only in the last week, which was very stressful. I would not take him if you prefer predictable, organized classes
Did not like this class or the prof one bit. Canvas was poorly organized and was difficult to navigate. He gave me a low score on an assignment for turning it in late even though if was not located in the assignment modules. Does not give good feedback, grades hw last week of class, assigns essays and boring documentaries to watch . Never again!
You know what, he is really good! His style of teaching may require getting used to, but he really changed my perspective on American history! Every class he would lecture about super cool things, I advise to take notes, it will help a ton! No tests/quizzes in my class! Yes, he does not reply to email, just take him in person!
He was so funny, so real and so cool! His lectures vary from laughter to shocking history! Take him in person so you can keep in touch! He is very understanding when it comes to accommodations. He loves participation :)
Dr. Perez does not respond to emails as much as he pretends to, and he only does long lectures and movies. He's friendly/funny but he's a poor teacher. He grades on a whim so you won't know what your grades are until last minute. His class isn't difficult if you do the work but if you procrastinate/get sick, you're screwed cause he won't help you.
I took one of his online classes, and was immediately taken aback by the lecture. It was disorganized, hard to follow, and unprofessional. The teacher frequently swore, spoke in a disrespectful manner, and was just not pleasant to listen to. Definitely a teacher whose classes I will avoid taking in the future.
Currently taking his HUM150 class and it's been very frustrating. The class isn't the most difficult as long as you read the syllabus and stick with the "schedule". It's apparent he's pretty disorganized and the canvas layout is terrible. He doesn't respond to e-mails or grades anything. Would not recommend if you like structure.
Taking HUM150 and this class has been extremely frustrating. He doesnt respond to e-mails and he doesnt grade anything. He is very disorganized and does not prepare you at all for the homework. He gives two useless 2 hour lectures a week and assigns essays every week on questions he barely covers. You would have to do a lot of research on your own
I'm currently taking his online HIST150 class and am very disappointed with the class and professor. He posts long pointless lectures twice a week that are unorganized, hard to sit through, and extremely unprofessional. He often doesn't respond to questions and 9 weeks into the quarter still hasn't graded a single assignment.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! FIND A DIF TEACHER!! He just stood in front of the slides the whole time and read them word for word, was NOT helpful when you needed anything and half the time he wasn't even there and just had someone put a video of him on the board and made us watch him. He was super confusing and overall terrible. Waste of my life.
HUMAN150 online - I can say it was my least favorite online class. The canvas was unorganized. The assignment descriptions and schedule was only in the syllabus and it didn't explain the assignments very well. His two 2hour long lectures every week were unprofessional and hard to sit through. He was not very responsive and was a very late grader.
The class is interesting, but the lectures did feel long at times. He is VERY passionate and tends to yell and swear while teaching. The assignments were films we had to analyze and journal entries. It was pretty easy but there is no rubric and he grades at the end of the quarter. Take it in person cuz he doesn't respond to emails.
He is very unprofessional and disrespectful of students. His language consists mainly of vulgar language, and he doesn't teach History, instead he teaches about how bad we as Americans are. He constantly Speeks hate toward certain people and religions. Dr. Perez has very much made me regret taking his class.
Professor Perez was a very passionate lecturer and its clear that he cares about the content that he is teaching. However, his passion falls short when his canvas is a utterly disorganized mess, he fails to publish content when needed for each corresponding week, doesn't communicate with his class, and creates a hostile learning environment.
my goat . . he chill tho
The class itself is interesting and he is very passionate on the topic, which I appreciated. However, he does have a short temper, even going as far as shouting at the class for not participating. He was slightly intimidating BUT and was very hard to get a hold of outside of class. TAKE HIM IN PERSON!!
Dr Perez is very passionate about this topic but this sometimes leads to yelling and swearing during the lectures. He says that you can always email him to ask questions but he will never answer any of your emails. He does not have clear grading standards in the online course but if you just do the work you should be fine.
There is so much reading and writing in this class. What saved GS150 from being awful was the genuinely interesting material and the fact that Perez is a very entertaining lecturer.
Goated, he brings emotion to the class. He cusses but in a good way chill way like he a homie. No tests, he does movie reviews, journal reports and 1final project lots of writing. He opens ur eyes to different perspectives. Likes Real Madrid and Ronaldo. Take him in person
Don't make the same mistake I did and take his online classes. Didn't know what the assignments were asking half the time because questions were incomplete and disorganized. I put in the same amount of effort into this class as he did (not much) and did fine. Be prepared to be confused by the lectures which are pretty much just image slides/quotes.
Human 150- Decent professor but he doesn't know how to use canvas or give instructions for assignments. I got a 4.0 but I'm not sure how cuz there weren't many instructions. Final project was pretty interesting but other than that the class was boring. About 1-2 hours of work per week if taken online. Could be upto 5 depending how slow you are.
I took Perez in 2023 and this guy is genuinely insane. He swears a TON, rants about his ex-wife constantly and NEVER responds to messages. Homework heavy, confusing guidelines. If you like this subject that's amazing, but for the love of god choose another professor or else your image of this topic will be forever tainted by this belligerent man.
Perez can be a polarizing professor, but if you engage with his unique teaching style, the class is quite rewarding. The material is interesting, and he brings a lot of passion - even if it comes across as intense at times. Unstuckstudy was super helpful for staying on top of the readings and writing assignments.
DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH THIS PROFESSOR, it was by far the most stressful online course I have ever taken due to the unorganized canvas page he offers. His syllabus does not correspond to the assignments uploaded and there are a couple of hidden assignments in the syllabus that he expects you to complete when he uploads it.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, DO NOTTTTTT TAKE THIS CLASS. Cultrual studies, HUM150 was the WORST class IVE EVER TAKEN. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IM SAVING YOU. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. DO NOT DO NOT DOOOOOO NOTTTTT TAKE THIS CLASS. I pinky promise you. do NOT take this class.
He's kind of crazy and I disagree with a lot of his politics which he loves to talk about. But if you get on his good side, he's not that bad. His canvas is organized pretty poorly, and a lot of the assignments aren't very clear. Also, he takes forever to grade. Overall, not an awful teacher but not great either.
He is a fascinating professor. He will talk to the whole class and mention his ex-wife a lot. He swears quite a bit, so don't take his class if you don't like that. He doesn't assign much homework, but if there is homework, it is a 2-page, single-spaced report. He is a light grader and a fun professor. It was an easy class to get a good grade in.
Great professor. His lectures can be a little heavy but they're super interesting. He's really passionate about what he teaches and there's not too much work. As long as you do the assignments on time, it's an easy A. I would recommend taking him in person, cause he doesn't really reply to email, but other than that he's great.
Professor Perez, is one of my favorite professors I have had. Reading these reviews, it makes me sad to know that many don't understand his teaching style. His teaching style is unique. So, be more open to clearly understanding why he is teaching the way he is. The assignments are not hard. Truly started loving learning because of Professor Perez.
This professor did not grade a single assignment until halfway through the quarter, gave incredibly unclear/unspecific feedback, and responds to questions by students with hostility. Also, he never put his syllabus on his Canvas page and doesn't put up assignments until the last second so you have no directions. Very unprofessional and unorganized.
I dont know why everyone else is so pressed at him. Im pretty sure he gave everyone a 4.0, I Bs'ed all my essays, I dont think he even read those and ended up handing me an A. Dont listen to these fools Human 150 is an easy 4.0 just make sure you have chat gpt
He was the most judgmental condescending professor I have ever met in my entire life. Although he may not believe in God, he did not at all respect people's beliefs. He constantly would hate on people who believed in God and said that science was real, and God was fake, and it was just overall really aggressive and rude.
Has all the knowledge needed to make this class, but none of the tact needed to teach it. Grades over a month behind schedule with a no late work policy, never responds to emails even when he's able to, mocks students for asking questions, and consistently forgets to put important files on Canvas including the syllabus. Decent lectures though.
Dr. Perez is an amazing lecturer, but his assignments feel incredibly disjointed from course content. I emailed him several times throughout the quarter to either ask for clarification on assignments or to let him know I would be absent to coordinate deadlines and I never got a response even once.
I love him, he has amazing beliefs and is loud about his correct opinions, and gives amazing videos and lectures, but every week we have to write a two page essay, read a few chapters in a textbook, and watch 4 hours of lectures. However, our final project this year is on a graphic novel, so that's fun.
Sent an email about the final, he didn't respond. The final had very unclear instructions on submission and his syllabus was outdated. Assignments are stupid and you're expected to watch hours of lectures and documentaries every week. Also a bit too political especially for a history teacher. Only take if you have to, I'm warning you.
If you REALLY CARE about YOUR EDUCATION, dont take him, bc it's just an easy "A" ykwim? Doesn't answer emails. Lectures only about politics lol. Dont need to buy the book, just make it up. Film analysis only-just write straight essays, easy. Skip as much as you want, syllabus says he'll fail u after 2, twas a lie. Grp proj. book lowkey interesting.
Pretty much every review of this professor is truthful. Perez's lectures are very interesting but not very important to the class. There were only a few 2-page film reviews and a final video. The classes ran behind and the Canvas was messy, but assignments were given w/ at least a week! Slow email responses and grading, would take him again tho!
