Wow! physics has never been a great subject for me. She expects students to know basic calculus and grasp her teaching fast. Sometimes misses class and then rushes through the latter classes. Exams are difficult. Be prepared in the class, or be VERY lost.
Gives very hard tests. Her labs is very nice, not too picky.
Very hard tests. She re-uses the old tests. Look for theM, otherwise you will do pretty bad, while others get unbelievable scores simply because they have old tests. Easy labs. No patience for slow-learners. Watch out if you have to take the class.
tests are pretty hard. easy lab though.

her online class is sooooooooooooo easy. make sure take it with ur friends because you have 2 chances to finish a online quiz, homework is extra credit
She teaches fast. Take her class if you wanna chanllege yourself! :D
HORRIBLE. DOES NOT TEACH WELL AT ALL. EVEN IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL YOU WILL FAIL THE TEST BECAUSE SHE PUTS RANDOM STUFF IN THERE THAT SHE NEVER TALKED ABOUT OR ASSIGNED.
very hot, very good and i love her.
Hard and challenging tests. Will curve final grades and will judge student's abilities fairly (ie final grades will not depend purely on scores). Even if you don't get 90's on tests, you can still EARN an A. The best teacher the department offers.
Teaches very hard, but tests always harder than the lecture.
Don't take her class.Every physics class is really hard. Also, her lecture is not clear. If you have to take physics, I would recommend her husband Dr.Shi.(GOOD LECTURE, but VERY DIFFICULT!)
This professor sucked! She always replied my emails a week or two late and never answered my questions. Don't take her online class!
There's no way you can say she is a bad professor because you don't know her personality. I don't think she is THAT hard. I got an A in her class last semester. Overall, she is a pretty good professor.
Avoid like the pleague. I Have never had a teacher this hard. Tests are so irrelavent to anything she said in lecture. And mean go to ask her a question turns you down. Ugly too. Take Cheney easy and perfect lecture.

Please stop saying "yes or no"!!! God...Anyway, she provide mathmatical orientated physic lecture and provide little on the physic part...Good for those who like physic in the math form. She often tease you 4 asking dumb question however..=[ Fai
She is mean when u ask her questions. Lecture is clear but fast. Unlike her husband, she talks about calculation problems in class to prepare u for real hard exams. Really have to work very hard to get an "A".
WORST TEACHER AT THE PHYSICS DEPARTMENT. Even worse than her counterpart. Doesn't know how to teach, doesnt even speak right. Save yourself a trouble and stay away from her.
easy course+grading. gives extra pts to gd essays. as long as u do all the EC, make use of tutors in the physics room. u r pretty much guaranteed an A. but unclear n unreasonable sometimes, so ASK ? whenever u r not sure b4 its 2 late
Cool cool.
OH MY GOD!! Don't even think about taking her
Bad! Bad! Bad! Don't take her physics 10 online class

Took her Winter '05 online class. Very helpful and responsive. Always returned my email on the same day, even on wknds!
The final is open book, open everything people!I recieve a B because i got hoodup from friends who took her last semester. Thank god answers and questions never changes.i didn't have do SH** for whole semester HAHAHA sucker
I think she's very very mean. She never smiles to me. Very hard class, you have to work hard enough to get a good grade.
Esay class with only three on-campus meetings for the whole semester. I mostly just read the book myself, but she did return my email quickly when I had questions to ask.
I like Ms. Quan. She gives good lectures, and I won't sleep in her class. I like the way she teaches. She smiled at me. I think she is a good teacher. Better than her husband(Dr. Shi).
lot beter than her husband,we never understand what Dr. shi talk about due to his chinese acent.Since he cant speak english well,he shouldnt give hard exam questions.

PCC should fire her and her husband and get new people to teach physics. They are the nightmire for those students who are majoring in physics or engineering, not the class is hard,it is because they dont want their students to get easy understand materials
She makes the material clear-really knows her stuff and this is really important in physics especially since others in the department dont, making it impossible for students to follow So if you want to do well and actually understand physics shes a great choice shes also extremely hot and a very nice person which is rare of any professor here
Seems like she has mood swings. If you are lucky, there are days she may be smiling at you. But it all depends on her mood. Overall, she is a mean teacher.
In the Phys Online course, Ms. Quan only showed up once to the final exam. So don't be surprised if you don't see her at all and it's always Dr. Shi substituting. Pretty straightforward class. Online Quizzes, 4 SINGLE-Spaced essays and Midterm/Final. Since this class is for non-majors, it is not that hard. Good luck.
well, moody lady. poor explaination, no homeworks. Her tests are quite hard anyways. gotta understand the materials very well. good luck
The best overall physics teacher for people who need calculus physics. Her accent can make it hard to understand sometimes.
Quizzes ask weird questions, I didn't see the teacher once, took her up to a week to reply to emails. The class is structured to be easy though, and a TON of extra credit is offered. Got an A with little effort.
This was an online course and although you do get TONS of extra credit, there were many questions on the tests that were wrong or seemingly arbitrarily assigned. It really is remedial however the wording of the test questions are awful and unclear. I took it in the summer-28 Chapters, 4 Essays, and 4 Tests. It's not the content,it's the volume
Terrible arrogant teacher. Wrong answers on many tests, even on the final one. Never helped to understand the materials. Three single space two pages essays. Tons of homeworks (for extra credit only). Quizes are not hard, but the final will kill you
This was an online class and we only meet twice a semester. Professor Quan has been quite helpful; she always answered my questions promptly by email, holidays and weekends included. The key was to follow the weekly study schedule. It was designed as a GE course, not very demanding. I got an easy A. :)
This is online class.6 quiz,4 essay,2 small quiz,6 homework, midterm, and final.A lot of stuff.Extremely hard if you don't read the book. The quiz is hard, too. If you are lazy, don't take her!!!
if you really study very well, exam not hard.and she's ready 2help u at anytime.she gave u a extra test(easy1),n let u write extra credit essay, all these will great help you grade.she is nice, she knows what you really want, even the exam hard,(she knows that) but she just want to show you what is physics, she will try to help you get grade A.
I took the online class, and it was quite alot of work, so you do have to spend quite a significant amt of time on it. Lots of things to read in the book, but she does give you 2 attempts at quizzes. HW are extra credit. 3 essays. But she's very helpful; just email her any questions and she always replies rather quickly with thorough explanations.
Online class. Gives plenty of extra credit assignments and quizzes. 2 attempts at the quiz. Some quiz answers can be found online, using google.
Don't think about taking Ms. Quan, she's the worst prof at PCC. Her lessons are unclear, gets moody when people ask her simple questions, and her tests are horrendous. The online quiz is a joke, they are completely different from the midterm/final. If you are not in a hurry to get into Physics 1A, stay away from this prof.
she is very nice teacher. Do good on her quizes which r online and even if u do bad on ur final you will still get an A.
Moderately hard class. Grades lab reports pretty harshly. Tests are moderately hard. There is no homework at all. She has an accent, but you get used to it after a day or two so it does not hinder the lectures at all. She has a very loud and quirky voice, so lectures are very engaging, she keeps your attention very well.
Got decent grades on the quizzes, did the extra credit quizzes and extra credit field trip report... got a really bad grade on the final 20 out of 50 but still managed to get a B! I was surprised, but AWESOME stuff!!! TAKE HER!
STAY ON TOP OF THE WORK! Got decent grades on the quizzes, did the extra credit quizzes and extra credit field trip report... got a really bad grade on the final 20 out of 50 but still managed to get a B! I was surprised, but AWESOME stuff!!! TAKE HER!
Take hers if you want to lower you GPA. HARD PROFESSOR
The worst "teacher" I've ever had. Online class was moderately easy. Just google the quizzes and you'll find them word for word. Takes forever to return single spaced essays, doesn't answer emails. Can barely communicate let alone teach. Seriously, don't take her. It just ain't worth it.
If you want an instructor who DOESN'T respond to your emails, DOESN'T clearly explain things in class, often has MOOD SWINGS, misses classes, then take her. If you want a class with tests that are many, MANY times more DIFFICULT than any quizzes or homework problems, then take her. If you want POOR communication from your instructor, then take her.
HORRIBLE STAY AWAY FROM HER FOR YOUR GPA'S SAKE PLEASE!
Very bad teacher. Ugly and not fair about grading system. She doesn't teach well, but her tests are very hard.
I don't get how her classes are hard. I had her for Physics 1B and I thought she was very easy. She was so easy, I looked forward to attending every weekly meeting, since I had a half-online and half-in-class course. Just study hard, do xtra credit, excel on labs, bring your A game on exam day, and you should be fine!
Quan's cool, kinda scary at first, but she's cool. If you have an issue with her test grading just ask, she might give you a few more points. Of course it isn't an easy course, but its tolerable. Stay on top of your homework and you'll be fine. STUDY YOUR --- OFF FOR HER TESTS!
I like prof. Quan.I disagree with people saying she is hard. She is actually very easy! She is a little harsh in terms of grading test and lab, but she gives out many extra credit opportunities which are sufficient to bring up one full letter grade. Her video lecture is really helpful. study those problems and she may put those on the test directly
Her "Extra Credit" opportunities are a JOKE and not worth much, in her eyes, at all. She even admitted at the end of the course that the extra credit assignment (despite doing very well on the EC) was NOT enough to move up 1 grade level. Why does she bother with giving Extra Credit assignments at all then, if doing well on them makes NO difference?
Fails to respond to emails & questions in a timely manner if at all. Also criticizes grammatical errors in your writing which is sort of ironic considering some of her questions on the quizzes aren't even understandable. I can't personally comment on how she conducts her regular classes, but the online classes should be avoided.
Overall, I took Quan for PHYS 10 online and it wasn't that bad. Just stay on top of your schedule. It's a physics class, so of course it's not going to be easy. 6 quizzes, 2 essays, 1 field trip report that's E/C and bunch of extra credits to gain! 1 Final, take it in-class and it's also open-book. Good luck taking the exam though, it was hard.
Professor Quan is an extremely lazy, unprofessional individual that simply doesn't care about teaching. Despite conducting the pathetic hybrid system that only meet once a week, she is never unable to attend. She doesn't deserve her full-time position in the physics department. There are more qualified professors than her by far
Students, please report Quan for not doing her job properly. I don't know how long the inefficient hybrid system has been around but please let your voice be heard. You will struggle and fall if you end up in the class, but we all went through that. Know that it's not your fault but only the person who is standing in front of you during lab
This is by far the most pathetic course you will take at PCC. Even though there are only 16 class meeting, quan is not there for more than half. She constantly gives homemade brownies ( disgusting by the way) to prevent you from reporting her and what she is doing with the physics courses to the dean, but done be fooled, I filed a report already.
1. take her if you don't have any other options. 2. extra credit is your friend, do ALL of them. 3. she says the class will be curved, but that depends on her mood. 4. don't trust anything that comes out of her mouth. she will easily lie to you and pretend as if she never said it. A is attainable, but beware.
Astoundingly bad professor. Her lectures will remind you of the kid who forgot to bring something for show and tell. Unprepared, patently disinterested in teaching, rude to students. Just... wow. If, poor soul, you are forced to take Quan's course, understand that you will need to teach yourself physics while she just sort of gets in the way. Yuck.
First, it was online class. Most of study depends on yourself. Second, the tests were hard comparing to my friend's professor. To achieve "A" does require more work. Third, anything except the tests were easy. "A" as final grade is not hard to get. Since PCC doesn't have enough phys class, you should take her if you are engineer or phys major
My advice is to just do the extra credit she assigns. It basically bumps you up one letter grade if you do it. 2 midterms 1 final, 15%15%20%. You probably need to average 70%-80% on the 3 tests in order to get an A (which is 88-90% most of the time). Study for every test and don' underestimate the class. She finds a way to ask hard questions.
I took her Physics 1A Hybrid class, and it was so tough that I decided to withdraw. Probably like 90% of my classmates withdrew too. In my opinion, the class wasn't easy because it's hybrid. I had to spend so much time at home studying, trying to understand the concepts by myself. The exams and quizzes are hard. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! DON'T TAKE IT
She rarely replies emails, and tests are not easy. Extra credits are very important for this class. Make sure you do them. Be ready to study hard and review well before the tests. And don't give up easily. She is a very tough grader and try not to make silly mistakes like having sig figs or missing units. She will deduct points from these.
Tests are really tough!! Lots of busy work & you must do video check-in w your ID on some testsquizzesFinal ! Beware: most of the questions on tests are not found in book... lots of math equations on tests. This class was a pain !! The good thing is that there is lots of extra credit to raise your grade :) Do it all !!
Physical science 3 is meant for future elementary school teachers so it's broad. Hw for every chapter, 5 discussion posts, 5 quizzes, 1 final, 1 paper. Easy assignments but quizzes can be challenging. Cons: unclear and disorganized, due dates listed differently on each page. Pros: responded to emails quickly, gives A LOT of extra credit.
Hi, I took this class for fun, and I felt I learned a lot from professor Quan. She was very engaging and the test were easy. I would take this class again.
This was an online class and it was super easy. As long as you keep track of all the due days and turn in your work on time you should be fine.
I would not recommend her in general, but it seems she does better in the non-1ABC series. This is because she does not like to teach - hence her preference for hybrid classes. If you want someone who is critically harsh, does not want to help you learn, rude, and ineffective, then this is the "teacher" for you! Otherwise, I would not recommend.
The lab/ lab reports and online portions of the class were easy, however her tests were tough. Fortunately, she provided a lot of study materials online, had extra credit, and was always willing to help before and during class. As long as you are willing to put in the effort and try, you'll be fine. Make sure to practice a lot for the tests!
I did not listen to other comments and I regret so much. She is rude, harsh and picky on lab report, do mostly deriving formular but not the typical problem we need to deal with. I jave the feeing she doesnt like teaching. Have extra credit but those are not enough for the level of hardness in her test. She makes me feel i am useless and nonesense.
She expects a lot from students but not much can be expected from her. During lab, she's almost never there, leaving students to figure out things on there own. She doesn't have patience to explain things. Her physics class is online (except lab) with recycled YouTube videos from many years ago. Some of the videos are another professor's.
Sad thing is that students have complained to Douglas but the whole dept doesn't care how rude and inefficient she is as profes. and a human being in general. Douglas ACTS like he cares just like she pretends to be a teacher. she won't help you at all, avoid her. go to GCC/Elac or something for physics. it's that bad. Pcc NOT #1 for educ in physics
She doesn't teach at all... goes on and on about NASA. If you don't do the extra credit it lowers your grade. Her exams are ridiculously hard, many did not pass.
i did very bad in the class, but because it is physics and not really the professors fault. She explains at the beginning you may want to drop if you can't handle a class with lecture online, and it is true. I thought I could handle it, but physicists are smart for a reason, this class is tough, and you better make the effort on your own 4 hybrid
So this is for those who have to take her and are nervous about it. Her class is indeed passable but you have to WORK for it. Seriously do not slack off. Do the homework, watch the videos, do the extra credits, and study like crazy for the tests (They are indeed difficult, I would spend maybe 4+ hours for each test). Do the above and you'll be fine
Professor Quan was picky on lab reports. Make sure to complete all the extra credits, this helps you a lot to level up one grade.
To be honest, Professor Quan was a really nice teacher. She is knowledgeable and helpful to students in need. All you need to do is keep asking her questions. My class is a hybrid class so my time is extremely flexible and her workload is fairly light. She would prepare us for the tests so pay attention in class would make the test very easy.
The material is pretty difficult, she made her best in explaining and doing examples. I would take her again
She is a very good instructor, not extremely friendly but a very good lecturer, very good lecture notes, very hard subject, she does a very good job at explaining very hard concepts. I enjoyed her class very much.
She encourages you to think deeply about the topic covered in class, sometimes inspirational. Quizzes, discussion, and summaries are easy. Midterms and final are somewhat hard and requires long time to review. It's also hard to get full credit on lab reports. However, she offers extra credit (10%), so take advantage of it. Recommended!!
She was very agressive! She expects you to know physics before taking this class. She never introduces the terms to the class and expects everyone knows.
Prof Quan is very knowledgeable. The only thing I don't like about her is her temper. She speaks so fiercely that my heart vibrates. She will make sure you look dumb in front of the class if she thinks what you did/think was dumb. Overall, her grading is picky, but her exams are fair. She's nice half of the time. Just study hard and have good team.
There are weeks where there is nothing due and then weeks were 3 modules are due from different chapters in the SAME day. It's hard to keep up with when things are due because it's always different and syllabus and canvas will say one thing but you open the assignment and it has a different due date. VERY UNORGANIZED. Beware
I had almost a 95% in her class until she gave a final which was totally unfair and ruined everything! She didn't prepare us at all and the class average was 28 out of 100! It felt like being stabbed in the back, I am so mad right now it is beyond words! If you want all your hard work to be for nothing go ahead and take her!
It was definitely not an easy A. I recommend everyone taking this class to do all the extra credit she provides, which will help you boost one letter grade. And really study for those midterms/final.
This professor is just okay. At least she has some extra credit. Her tests are somewhat difficult; the final exam average score is only 47.1 percent. Additionally, she gives specific instructions on how to do the lab.
Terrible... She does a hybrid class style where you watch youtube videos as lectures and during class you go over worksheets or labs. The youtube lectures are horrible with all of them only having audio in one ear and being from 2013. Average on midterm was 43% When she shares her screen she'll reveal everyone's grade in the class and is very rude.
Its all asynchronous. Things are often due every Sunday night which makes it easy to go at your own pace during the week. I think the people who complain that the class is hard are not actually participating or want to put the effort in. The textbook is an 8th grade science text. Easy read. Quizzes and tests are open book/open note. DO THE EC!
Took her during the summer and fall for Physics 1A and Physics 1B. These were the first physics classes I've ever taken, but they were pretty understandable. If you put the work in (do everything on time, check and correct homework, attend office hours, do ECs), your grade will reflect it. Her class is hard, but it will teach you a lot!
Worst physics professor.
Spring 2021 student- the class average on the final was a 39% (31.6/85). She isn't impossible to pass but expect to fail on the exams. Read the other reviews, the midterms drops your grade substantially. She DOES NOT CURVE! Do the extra credit whenever possible (raises a letter grade).
Do the Extra Credit, it'll help, good teacher, heavy emphasis on tests. She is very knowledgeable in the subject. The Final and Midterms are the hardest part of the class by far, most of the class pretty much bombed it. But the extra credit she provides helps makes up for lost ground from the final.
Had a terrible experience. We had class once a week, and that was used to go over the homework, where she would go through our work and call on us. Also you needed to go to class because it was 40% of your homework's credit for that week. Honestly wished she used class time to actually lecture and teach, it was pretty much a self-teach class.
I had a online class w/ this professor. In whole semester, there are 5 online exams after every 4 units, count for 30%. A final counts for 28%. I'm ok with these. However, she has a 4-page and single-line research paper with unclear reference format. Only after writing, you feel the pain between single-line and double-line.
I am taking summer 8b with other professor but Pro Quan teach 2days as an replacement professor. It is in person. The way she explains for the conceptual questions may not be the best but for teaching the problems how to solve, she is the best comparing to other professors. I write this review cause I only see bad reviews about her here!
I breezed through her class. Finished her class with a 96.79%. it's hard but not impossible, you have to go to her office hours, ask her for help. She does struggle to explain problems, just ask her to show solutions and look at her steps, she walks you through it step by step like a goat. your mechanics will improve dramatically.
If you do group studies, it's impossible to get anything lower than an A. LITERALLY IMPOSSIBLE. ASK her for help and DO group studies = SECRET TO A.
easy.. just do homework
If you try, you can easily ace the class. Secret Formula = Do all homework, Understand all homework, Try to do Extra 5-10 challenge probs for each chapter. Mega secret formula (do Group studies with other students). Thats how we dominated her class. Group study is the technique (She can't fail everyone). I earned a 94% on her class.
shes so nice in her office hours. very kind and helpful. she genuinely wants to help.
Professor Quan is extremely caring. She always responded to my emails right away. While the course I took had online asynchronous lectures, during our class time she would always help me with what I did not understand. I would definitely take this class again.
Very very tough grader!
Professor Quan's class is tough, but doable if you put in the work. Do all the homework, understand it, and try the extra challenge problems. Group study is key - it really helps boost your grade. unstuck AI is great for test prep too.
