I built a strong pre-calculus foundation in this class and earned straight A in 41, 42, and 43. Math is not my best subject but his teaching skill fits my learning perfectly. His lecture notes have explained everything you need to know. Just do all the homework problems, you will get a high grade.
Professor Yu was one of the best math professors I've had. He was very clear with his grading criteria and lectures were very straight forward. He provides all of the notes taken through email after each class and sends step by step solutions to the homework problems so it's easy to understand where you went wrong if you don't understand something.
Honestly, Prof Yu is beyond awesome. He fully expanded the solutions of each example in detail. The notes have everything you need for homework and quizzes. Attending his lectures is crucial because he gave out plenty of helpful hints for exams and quizzes. The exam practice problems were similar to the exam problems. I will take him again.
Overall a good professor, his lectures are boring and you find yourself asleep half the time. Doesn't try to get the class involve and all quizzes are done in groups so make sure you pair up with people who knows the problems. Doesn't grade homework so you can pretty much put anything on a piece of paper and you'll get an A for homework assignment.
It was a lecture heavy course because Andrew wrote a lot of notes. The notes were gems because they were easy to follow. I was able to learn everything from the notes, so it was not necessary to use the book. He gave us practice exam problems. They were similar to the real exam problems. I wanted to take his math 10, but his classes filled up fast.
Professor Yu was a mixed bag. He sends out PDF Files before classes with lecture notes that are AMAZING. Seriously a great resource. However, in class he skips through and doesnt explain some things, or explains them in a weird way. Not a fan of his style but really appreciate the clear notes provide and would take again for those alone.
Was nice and explained things in a clear way. He gives PDF templates of his notes for the lectures and those saved my life! He uploads the lecture notes after the class too, in case you missed it. He does group test every week and gives you study guides for his midterms. I usually have a hard time in math but I liked his class.
I think Andrew is a great math professor. I have him for Math 114 and his lectures were fast but also thorough enough for you to understand. He provides pdf files of the lectures, both with and without his markings. Andrew prepares you for test and quiz materials and lets you know what to study. As long as you're engaged you're set in his class!
Super organized and the lectures were very clear and straight to the point. Best math teacher Ive ever taken. Didnt even feel like I needed to study much. He assigns homework weekly, but also provides a step by step hand written answer key so you can actually understand where it is you went wrong.
If you know you arent a strong learner in math I wouldnt recommend taking him as your professor. No retakes no extra credit no rounding up. Lectures the full 2 hrs & there are no quiz/exam reviews. Weekly hw & tests every Thursday. Dont recommend this class.
Professor Yu is one of the most straightforward, no BS, flexible professors I've had. He shares ALL his lecture notes with you and his solutions. His midterms are 99% like his midterm reviews. He has weekly quizzes (optional groups) and homework (with solutions). He makes stats, fun, exciting, simple, and collaborative. I've aced all his exams
Andrew was the best math teacher I have had. He send outs PDF copies of notes before every class, he sends out the homework and solutions via PDF so no book is needed. You take weekly group quizzes, and he prepares you for every exam by giving a review of what will be on test and solving the problems in class. He wants his students to succeed!
Andrew is such an awesome and straightforward professor. He doesn't give you trick questions on exams or quizzes, all you need to know is the basic concept of it. He is also very resourceful which means he sends out PDFs and materials you need to study for a test/final/homework. I would take him again but he doesn't teach multivariable :(
SOOOOOOO...... this teacher is quiet ezier than your expectation but the class is supppppppeeeeerrrrrr boring. Well you can just self-study then pass, but be careful not to procrastinate. ANDREW U DID GREAT I GUESSSSSSS
He tells you exactly what to study for an exam. There are review problems and formula sheet. He solved most of the problems during review session and scanned all the notes and solutions for everyone. None of my former math teachers did this for students. Overall, the learning experience is incredible. BTW, he is so young. Will take him again.
Best professor I ever had in De Anza, clear grading and teaching, test are easy if you do your homework, all quiz are grouped. If you know, you know. Take him and you wont be regret.
I will (and I can't stress this enough) say this again that professor Yu is one of the few professors that I truly enjoy being in class with. He genuinely (and I can't stress this enough) wants his students to learn and also succeed, not learn and suffer. I wish I have him for bio chem physics ochem but too bad he's a math professor :(
Professor Yu is absolutely phenomenal! His lectures are very clear and well organized. He sends you templates of each section so you can prepare ahead of time. Before every exam, he does a review session and provides a study guide. His exam questions are also very straightforward. He does everything to make your experience in math smooth.
This Professor is the best Professor and you will definitely have the best Math class you ever had. No stress when you take his class, easy to get a good grade if you pay some effort (compare to other class, less effort you need to put as he taught so well and provide different study guide). I hope I can take him on Math 1C too (sigh).
This professor was the best math professor I've everhad. The notes give all the feedbacks throughly so that you would study yourself as well. I'm so sorry that I didn't focus on really much in class, but I got 99% in total. However sometimes if he thinks that ppl barely came to class, he gives a pop quiz which is just to make sure you're in class.
I took his math 1b last quarter, I thought he was the best Math instructor in De Anza. His lecture was very clear and he went through every single problem he made. He also gave us review problem and cheatsheet for the test. Quizs were the group quizs and he would drop the lowest grade. As long as you do the review problem, your test will be fine.
Professor Yu is an amazing professor. His lectures are amazing. He posts his notes and lectures online so you have more time to understand them yourself. He gave us review problems and a cheatsheet for exams. Quizzes were always in groups. He is one of the best math professors I ever had. I wish he was teaching the entire calculus series.
Best math professor at De Anza hands down! You can take the quizzes in groups and his study guides before the midterms and final are very similar to the problems on the tests. Just do the homework and study guides and you're good to go. He drops the lowest quiz score and homework score as well.
Lecture heavy, but he is very clear with what he wants and he also wants you to get a good great. He tells you exactly what will be on a quiz or midterm, which helps a lot. He is super organized and if attendance is low, he gives a pop quiz. Overall an amazing teacher, I wish I could take him again.
Best teacher I have ever had, especially for math. He emails the lectures before class, gives you the answers for homework so you know you're doing it right, and gives sample exams/final and goes over each question in detail so you know exactly what will be on the tests. Weekly quizzes that are done in groups. He does lecture for the entire class.
Take this class! He sends PDFs of the notes he lectures about which are super helpful because it helps me study for tests or homework. I don't mind his homework at all because it helps me understand the concepts. He is also a great lecturer, he explains things so simply even when a problem/concept looks difficult. He cares about his students!!
Pros: - Very organized teacher with pdf files of lectures sent to canvas weekly - He gives out a study guide before every midterm and the final exam which prepares you for the tests Cons: - I find his lectures to be a bit too fast and bland. - I found myself mostly self studying for this class
I'm not usually talented with math and this was my first statistics class, but Professor Yu was VERY very concise and straightforward about what he wanted to teach/what we needed to know, so there was no ambiguity about what to expect for tests and quizzes. They weren't necessarily easy, but as long as you do his homework you'll def get an A.
Prof Andrew is the best math prof I've ever had. His lecture notes and review problems are helpful, and his lecture are easy to understand! I didn't know that he teaches MATH10. If I knew it, I would definitely have taken his class. He inspired me to study math, now I really wanna learn math from him. The impression has changed from the beginning!
I learned so much from his crystal clear lectures in cal 1 and wanted to take his cal 2. His class was full in the 1st registration day, waitlist was full in the 2nd day. There were 20+ walk in students trying to add in the 1st day of class. His lectures are so easy to follow and understand. This is the math professor that every student wants. Nice
Professor Yu is the best math teacher I ever had at De Anza. He is always helpful when we have questions to ask. His notes and lectures are also very clear to understand. I took his Math 1A and I will definitely recommend him to everyone around me!
There are a few in class quizzes. Those problems in the quizzes are all in the lecture or HW. Test is not hard if you do the sample problems in the textbook and follow his lecture notes. Andrew is a really nice teacher. He cares and respects his students.
He is def the best professor in the math department. He is nice, extremely clear with lectures, quizzes and exams. If you want an A in math without needing to be naturally gifted TAKE THIS CLASS.
From my point of view, professor Yu is the best teacher in the Math department. If you choose his class, you will possibly build a good foundation and competence for future math courses. Professor Yu walks through many problems with students in the class, and he assigns the necessary homework to us. You won't regret your choice!
I'm sure his classes were the easiest class to include all GE classes I've ever taken before. If you have a question, ask him for help. EVEN DURING we're taking exams, there was a so long line of students to ask him for help because we know he will give us the way to solve the problem (if you ask more, you get the actual answer )
He is the goat. Hes genuine and truly cares about the students. Out of 40 students about 35 of them got As in my class. Thats how you know hes the goat. He gives exam review guides before exams and its basically the same thing but numbers changed in the question. All time favorite math teacher in de anza. Consider urself lucky to have him.
Came back to comment because I have taken other math classes at another uni, and hands down he is the best math prof I have ever taken! This is the first time I could get an A at a math class and actually understand the concepts. Finish your homework on time and at least put some effort into your exam - an easy A.
Took his Math10 online this summer. Every HW, quiz, and exam is on WebAssign. All lectures on YouTube. Don't forget to thumbs up and subscribe to his channel. 100 attempts for HW. 5 attempts for a quiz. 20 attempts for an exam and a final. No time limit for all of those. Impossible to get less than an A grade. level of difficultly is almost 0.
I took Andrew as my intro to statistic professor and he was an amazing professor! This was during COVID so everything was online. He gave multiple attempts in homework and tests to get the correct answer. At times he may assign a lot of homework, but it really doesn't take much time. HE IS THE BEST PROFESSOR! I would definitely take him again.
This is my 3rd time taking Andrew's class. The overall learning experience is beyond extraordinary. For both in-person and online courses, his lectures are super easy to understand, so you don't need to read the book or look for additional resources. This man's teaching is exactly what everyone wants in community college. Take him, worth it :)
Professor Jian Yu is definitely the best math professor at De Anza College. I took his MATH 1C during summer quarter 2020. He is such a knowledgeable and caring teacher and helped me to have a deeper understanding about series using calculus methods.
He is the right prof for you. His class fills up quick so it was hard to get an add code. Lectures are amazing because his steps have everything you need to know. He also mentioned and explained all the details that I got confused. Looks like he already knew the places where students got confused and he explained those places in detail. Great prof.
Took both online and in-person classes and I truly love both. Take him if you are looking for super clear lectures and notes. My life in AP Calculus would be much better if he teaches calculus in my high school. My friend is not a math person and still learned well in his statistics and pre-calc. Just take him, it can't be wrong. Please teach 1D.
I took 1B with him. He is a good professor with good lectures and good notes. Exams are reasonable. Easy A class.
Take math class with him, you will not regret.
This was my first online math class with Prof Andrew Jianyu Yu. The overall learning experience was beyond amazing. I had zero confusion from the lectures. All the lecture materials are consistent with homework and exams. No need to spend 4 hours to read the book myself. His 1B was super popular and there were 20+ people trying to add on first day.
He goes by Andrew Yu in his emails. Prof Yu's teaching saved my life because he made everything so easy to understand, no need to read the book. All the problems are easy to solve due to his helpful lectures. I should keep subscribing to his youtube channel to review all the integration stuff in 1B since. I wish he taught my 1A1B. Recommend him thx
Absolute amazing learning experience. Prof Andrew Yu posted his lecture on his youtube channel so I can watch them at any time. Everything is clearly explained. All the assignments were done on WebAssign, easy, fair, and learned a lot of differentiation techniques from him. Recommend him, took his Math 10 in summer, and will be taking 1B in fall.
Prof Andrew Yu is the type of instructor I have been looking for. Stats has a lot of reading, but the materials are well explained in this lecture, so there is no need to read the book at all. Homework and exam problems are so similar, and he explained a similar problem in his notes. Each online homework problem has 100 attempts, no way to lose pts
Was a night class, which is rough in itself. He still showed up every day and gave great lectures and did many many examples. He was very clear and only tested what he taught. Would definitely recommend.
Choosing Andrew Yu's class was the best decision I made for my summer. I thought the subject would be difficult to learn in remote learning, but that was not the case. He put all the lectures on his youtube channel, and they are super easy to follow and learn. If I can make a U-turn, I would like to take 1A and 1B with Andrew. Amazing & thank you.
Professor Andrew Yu might not be the best out there but he truly simplified all the materials for you. Unlike my previous class in another college, I did not need to read the book to teach myself and spend 10 hours to do a homework. I was able to understand all the lectures and completed everything with a high score. My first A in college math. Thx
Since classes are online, he teaches everything on youtube. His videos are as clear as the Organic Chemistry Tutor on youtube. 1000% recommend him, especially for higher-level math.
Easiest calc prof I've ever had (online class only, I don't know if he's that nice for face to face class) do hw and tests on webassign, he gives 100 attempts (even for final) so there's no way to fail. But for those who will take 1D and who wanna learn, not very recommended beware that you won't learn a lot since the class is just too easy.
By far the best math professor I've ever had.
If I had Andrew as my high school and college math prof, I could easily Ace all the classes without hassle. The biggest problem that we are all facing in math is unclear lectures, but Andrew's lectures are crystal clear and straightforward. He should keep building his youtube channel lemon math to help more students. Love his classes so much, cheer
I personally was afraid to take statistics asynchronously at first. However, this professor made statistics easier to comprehend. I loved how he had a whole playlist of YouTube lectures that I can rewatch if I get confused. All assignments are turned in via Cengage. Homework assignments were easy to follow! Take this professor! :)
Stats is not my strongest subject. Expect 10 HWs, 10 Quizzes, 2 Midterms, 1 Final on WebAssign. His lectures are pre-recorded on YouTube, I had to look other guides on how to solve the formulas. Midterms and Final are PROCTORIO. You have unlimited attempts for HW, 3 for quizzes, 2 for Midterms and Final. This professor increased the difficulty.
1 homework and 1 quiz per week, lectures are kind of hard to follow and understand. Has 2 midterms and a final. Pretty good at responding to emails, and will answer and help with whatever problems you have.
If you are a self-study kind of student, definitely take this professor. He is very accommodating and has great math tutorials on youtube if you need help. You get one homework (unlimited attempts) and one quiz (3 attempts) per week. There are also 2 midterms and one final which has 2 attempts. The questions are hard but that's just math in general
Chill professor. Has lectures and has assignments on WebAssign. There's a homework and quiz weekly which can have some difficulty. Exams have around 2-3 tries. Very lenient with extensions and is very understanding. Had to withdraw due to sickness and he gave me pretty good advice for future. If I had stayed, I say I would've gotten around an A-.
He's using WebAssign for hw, quizzes, 2 midterms, and 1 final and let it be graded automatically. No extra credit and the lowest score won't be dropped. Luckily, during my quarter, he didn't enable proctorio. He has a youtube channel called Lemon Math and takes it as lectures every week. No class meeting
Enrolled in this class thinking there would be weekly meetings, but it turned out for everything to be asynchronous. Everything is through his youtube channel and then the homework is on WebAssign. You get a lot of tries and if you miss the problem enough, it gives you the answer. The exams had 2-3 tries per problem.
For those of you that read this, I wasn't very good at math before I took a class with Jian Yu. Now, I'm currently a Computer Science major at UC Berkeley because of this man. He gave extra codes to multiple people and saved us from the other terrible ones, and he teaches extremely well. He gives a lot of leniency with grading. Thank you, Jian Yu.
He gets excited about math while teaching which is pretty cool because he is enthusiastic about the material and explains clearly what is going on. Difficulties in this class are that it is heavily weighted on exams but that is kinda a given with calc courses. No extra credit. Everything is on web assign. Exams are in person on WebAssign.
He is an >extremely< good lecturer. Check out his YT channel Lemon Math to get an idea. Homework is weekly with unlimited attempts per problem. Quizzes are also weekly with 3 attempts per problem. If you pay attention you are guaranteed to learn well from him. Notes policy is also very good for exams. Very highly recommend.
pretty easy teacher fs. He posted very long lecture videos on canvas that were draining to watch sometimes cause it ranged from either 2min-30min long. weekly hw+quiz, clear instructions, and he responds lightning speed. i emailed him at 10pm and he responded back in 10 min. just manage your time wisely as lecture videos are long sometimes
Professor Yu is very passionate about math. Although it is an online asynchronous course and we learned with recorded videos, the explanations in the videos are so clear and informative that I had a lot of fun with them. You can write emails about your questions and get feedback very quickly. I will definitely recommend his class!
1 quiz 1 homework every week roughly spent 2 hours total, the quiz being like 5 minutes as well as 1 midterm 1 final. I definitely recommend this professor as he always keeps us updated and responds to emails relatively quickly. IMO, his lectures feel like what organic chemistry tutor would teach :) Do the HW honestly and you'll pass!
Weekly homework assignments and weekly quizzes. 2 midterms (40%) and 1 final (35%). He was very understanding if you needed an extension. All assignments and tests were on web assign and tests and quizzes were taken from home except the final. Lectures were in person. Homework assignments had videos to help and there was online help.
1. Undoubtedly the most UNDEMANDING math prof. at De Anza. 2. One homework and quiz weekly that are extremely easy with video lectures particularly designed for the questions. 3. Attendance is not mandatory, although it is stated so in class syllabus. He didn't take any attendance except for the final exam. 4. Avoid him if u truly want to learn sth
Was a very understanding professor and gave us extensions for the homework. Replied to emails fairly quickly too. His lecture videos were somewhat long but if you are lost, no worries, just email him. He is there to help. Learned how to use the the TI-84 calculator bc of him. Class had a normal workload but BEWARE of that final (35% of the grade).
Great professor, really easy course! He has a good youtube channel with everything. Two midterms was online. Though it's easy to cheat, your understanding is your responsibility here. Lots of homework. Beware that the access to homework website is around $60 for students. No textbook needed. Allowed up to 6 sheets of cheatsheet on the finals.
WARNINGS: for those of u thinking of taking advantage of JianYu's loose policy on online cheating, he's started to require proof of work now. Otherwise, there is no doubt that he's the best math prof. at De Anza.
A very solid teacher that is easy to understand if you're caught up and posts notes on canvas that goes over all you need to know that will be on the test. Homework was effort based, and tests and final had 3 ATTEMPTS on each problem which are all online except the final. Doing homework, attending class, and studying his notes gave me an easy A+.
Just take this professor guys, easy, supportive, caring, easy A. Unlimited attempts for webassign, 3 attempts for quiz.
So many opportunities to cheat. Uses Webassign for everything. Lectures are some of the best of any STEM prof at DA. Attendance only mandatory for 1st 2 weeks and final exam. Quizzes and exams were done at home. Final exam is in class for 1st 2 hours then you have 4 hours to finish it at home. Exam questions are a bit different from HW and quizzes.
I suck at calculus and bombed a lot of tests in Calc 1. He taught me well enough to pass with an A. Super kind and super understanding and caring while being lenient. Just take his class you won't be dissapointed I swear he's the greatest professor out there.
One of the best decisions I ever made was to take Professor Yu. He is easily one of the best math professors at De Anza. He is super accessible outside of class, has YouTube videos, and is overall caring. He inspires me to be good at math, and I'm not the best at it. Take him. You won't regret it. Have so much love for this man
The class consists of weekly homework and quizzes, two midterms, and one final. He also posts lecture notes on the canvas after each lecture, and you can always visit his youtube channel to revise concepts that you don't understand in class. He is very lenient with deadlines and is accessible outside of class. Take him!!!
THE BEST PROFESSOR EVER! His lectures are amazing, very clear, organized, and easy to follow. His YouTube channel is also very helpful if you miss a class (he also posts his notes on Canvas). He truly wants his students to succeed in his class and is flexible. I would love to take him again.
Very caring and understanding professor! Lectures are detailed and calculations are explained step-by-step. Any questions can be asked in class or through email, and he will respond quickly and clearly. Really cares about students' success. He provides a study guide for the final that reviews all concepts required. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Weekly homework and quizzes, two midterms, and one final. SUPER understanding and caring, pushed deadlines and truly wants students to succeed. Heavy on homework and quizzes, but really helps for midterm and final. Also has youtube videos on the side for more help.
I don't know how he got all the high ratings previously. This dude lectures on for 2 hours and doesn't see or care if people are struggling to keep up.
(32) Easily the best professor I've ever had for math. He is very chill and easy to understand during lectures. He does have a bit of an accent but nothing you can't understand. He gave a lot of extra time to do past homework and quizzes. One homework and quiz every week, two midterms, and one final. Definitely would reccomend.
Pretty easy class, lectures are good, but you don't even have to pay attention in lectures to get an A. He has annoying random pop quizzes though. Weekly homework and quizzes are quite simple and are easy points. The midterms aren't too bad if you understand the hw. You can use notes on midterms as it is online.
Don't know why he has 5 stars. He lectures on for two hours and doesn't stop to check if everyone understands. If you're already good at math you'll be fine, but if you struggle like me don't take him. The homework is time consuming. The midterms are easy, they're open note, so is the final. The final is worth a lot, dropped my grade significantly.
DON'T TAKE!!!
His lectures are hard to follow and understand. A two-hour lecture is quite long. He doesn't care about anyone.
Took Math 32, he uses an online Cengage which is where you'll be doing homework and practice quizzes, as long as you do those online assignments you'll be ok. Sometimes he only gives about 2 days for homework & the homework is about 80 questions. lectures are HEAVY and tests are heavy. I couldn't keep up but tests are VITAL for your overall grade.
His class was very confusing because he takes the full 2 hour lecture going on and on about the problems very quickly. I suggest you take a head-start on the homework and do it early because it is a lot. Make sure you take notes on the work done in class (even though he says its posted its not) He's very passive aggressive when you ask for help.
I actually like Professor Andrew a lot. The homework might sometimes feel heavy but I promise if u do these regularly, the exam won't be hard at all and I don't know why people said he is not caring, he answered all my questions even during the exam time if you are facing problems, he will give u solution he taught us well how to use calculator.
A LOT OF HOMEWORK!!!
Lecture heavy but they were easy to understand. One long HW assignment (lots of questions with multiple parts to them) every week, but if you do little by little you should get it done in no time. If you prefer 1-on-1 help, this class probably isnt for you.
Don't recommend him if you have a busy schedule. Sometimes he will give you more than 70 questions in WebAssign and you must finish in 1 day. Weekly online quizzes seem to be easy. However, if you mess up any midterms and final, it is impossible to get a good grade.
Took his Math 114 in Fall 2018, but I gave up my studies for personal reasons. At that time, he was the easiest professor. But now, he changes his grading policy. His course isn't an easy A anymore. He assigns a lot of homework and grades toughly on in-person exams.
I won't accept him anymore!!! He is the toughest grader in Math 1B. A is over 94%, and there's no extra credit to improve my grade!!!
His teaching is decent, his yt channel: lemon math. However he would often be late to class and his exams were A LOT harder than hw/quiz, so many of us were unprepared to do well on the exams. Everything's on Webassign, even exam, so no partial credit. no extra credit or curving either. He's also not great at managing time/pace in a 50 min class.
Not bad for learning content. He has great lecture videos, if needed you can make up a class easily in 10/20 minutes. Exams are through WebAssign, have few questions, and contain no partial credit. If you make one mistake, it tanks your grade. For the sake of the word limit: read the recent reviews from this quarter, they cover what I missed.
Great professor, very thorough lectures, lots of homework. The homework questions are similar to quiz/exam questions. During lectures, he gives a long break, which is nice. I definitely recommend him if you want an A in this course.
If my high school has Andrew as our math professor, many of us would be able to learn PreCalculus easily and would be able to move on to AP Calculus with a strong foundation. His notes are the best resource in the course because you can easily review what you learned in class. I learned most of the stuff from his lecture without any troubles.
Pros: clear lectures, online quizzes AND exams, allow cheat sheets for midterms & finals. Cons: no grade rounding, extra credit, or partial credit on exam. Exams very similar to homework & review, but with like 1-2 hard question. At least half my class scored 100% on the exams. The class is supposed to be hard, but he tries to make it easy!
I took Math1B and Prof Andrew is the best in explaining the concepts in easy way. No Partial credit. He makes calculus learning more interesting and easily approachable and also provide review before final. Best professor to learn the things in easy way. Homework must Clear grading criteria. Highly recommended. Respected.HW, quiz and exam all online
very clear teaching
Just note one thing. He has great content and course guides but there is no partial credit. This is Calculus and if you are unfamiliar problems can stretch pages on end. You can lose mass amounts of points and even fail tests because you make a transposition error. It's all or nothing here so it's almost 100% or 35%
Easy A. Clear lectures. Tests straight from the review. Take him.
Professor Andrew was extremely available; he is the fastest-responding professor I've ever had. His participation is optional; however, you may miss certain pop-up quiz points if you do not attend class. The tests and homework were all done using WebAssign. He also puts his lecture videos online; you could learn the material at your own pace too
Yu Jian's notes are very clear and easy to understand, gradually progressing from simple to complex concepts. He explains several example problems for the same type of question, in great detail. As long as you take notes along with him during class, and keep your mind active with his, getting an A is quite straightforward.
His class is mainly about following his notes to explain the material. It was easy to follow the pace of the professor through his notes. His notes are also very clear in listing the knowledge points, which is very helpful in mastering the knowledge and taking the exams. Take this class and you won't be disappointed.
Boring and long lecture, sometimes makes calculation errors
As a previous comment mentioned, this is a chaotic class that you can put without much effort to get A+. To be honest, tests are not easy but he gave us 3 attempts for each question and most of us got 100%. His lectures are a bit boring, but his yt videos are very easy for self-study. It really depends on what kind of teacher you like.
I took Andrew for Math32 in the fall quarter. He is a very caring, passionate, and clear professor. Guarantee if you do his hw/quizzes and take them seriously, you will get an A. He sets you up for success but you must be willing to do the work. He is VERY smart and knows all the tricks in calculus and trig, and his math youtube channel is amazing.
Professor Yu was extremely helpful. I took his online class and the structure of his class was made really good and fit for students. Would definitely take him again and would recommend.
It's the easiest course I've have. Quizzes offer 5 attempts with straightforward questions, and homework on WebAssign has unlimited attempts. Both midterms and the final closely follow the provided practice exams. Yu explains concepts very clearly by using plenty of examples. His lecture videos are incredibly helpful.Highly recommend for everyone!
It's the easiest course I've have. Quizzes offer 5 attempts with straightforward questions, and homework on WebAssign has unlimited attempts. Both midterms and the final closely follow the provided practice exams. Yu explains concepts very clearly by using plenty of examples. His lecture videos are incredibly helpful.Highly recommend!
I had a great experience taking a class with professor Yu. The prof is a very nice guy who cares about his students' understanding of the material. He explained complex concepts in a way that made them accessible and easy to grasp, often providing multiple examples and approaches to ensure everyone in the class could follow along.
His lecture is very organized and easy to understand. If you spend enough time and effort, you will get an A.
Pros: posts lecture videos for the entire quarter beforehand, uploads the in-class notes to canvas at the end of the chapter, pretty understanding of late work, exams are open note. cons: passive aggressive, if math isn't your strong suit don't take him, 2 hours of pure lecture, pop quizzes, SUPER fast-paced lectures (math just isn't for me though)
He sat down in front of the computer and talked on his own for the entire lecture without any interaction. He sometimes makes calculation mistakes without realizing it,unless a student points them out. Now that I'm in 1D, I would say this is an easy class to pass, but not a good class to prepare for higher levels because he taught things too simply.
Pop quizzes low your %
Was such a chill teacher and never called on you. Super nice and funny. Doesn't interact with students, but that's fine. You get a break in between each lecture. Only 1 hw and quiz per week. Very thorough in details with lecture. A great class overall.
He explains concepts clearly and uses example problems to help students grasp the material better. The homework was also extremely helpful, as it allowed up to 100 attempts, making it an incredibly effective way to study. Even those who are not confident in math can learn easily through his lectures.
Straight forward class. Attend the lectures and you will easily be able to get a A. Post the lecture notes online for later review as well. Decent amount of homework. Only complaint is lectures are boring.
Came to every class for the lecture. Prof gives good explanations and his own examples throughout the lecture. Work, quizzes and tests are on Cengage/webassign, all problems are made himself that are related to the lectures. Very do-able class, would take again. Other reviews mention a random pop quiz, but did not encounter any in this quarter.
Good/easy class. Be aware of the midterms. The practice midterms aren't a good gauge of the actual midterms. It's also worth 45% of your grade. Study more than you think. Use mostly the homework and textbook to prepare instead, then practice the problems you don't know on the practice sets. Pretty fair since the HW and tests are just free points.
Most of class is spent with him behind his desk lecturing for about an hour, then 15 minute-ish break before another hour of lecture. Attendance is also mandatory, and there's a sign-in sheet you can initial anytime before the end of each class. Required online textbook was about $61 from Cengage. Not the fastest email responder but he reponds.
Always late to class! Him as a teacher should be on time he is rude and often times likes to say our class shouldn't pass not even one of us because we don't know how to do "basic math" aka the math he is supposed to be teaching us how would we already know it ?
at first his classes are hard to keep up with. he starts the class immediately without intro or anything and he talks fast. but I grew to like his lectures. tests and homework are easy. just the lecture is heavy
pretty good. easy online homework+quizzes. lectures are good and informative. midterms are quite tough, questions are different from the online quizzes.
Extremely easy prof. Free A. Unproctored midterm/finals for async and you get 24 hours to do it. Medium amount of homework on web assign. No regrets
Bro never shows up to class on time
He explains extremely well. I didn't do as good as I would have wanted to because I didn't study as much as I was kinda lazy and took a Math 1B summer class, straight after graduating high school. His lectures are amazing, and he's a kind guy. I can bet that if you study and put in the work, you can easily get an A+ in Math 1 B.
dude is the easiest math teacher at De Anza, lets you bring your own computer to exams and midterms, quizzes u do on your own time before the due date, for exams, dude chills on his desk doing whatever, take this guy over anyone, downside u gotta pay for WebAssign textbook for hw test and all that
check out his secret youtube channel Lemon Math :)
its like a dream come true
As a grader he was thoughtful, but as a teacher he was loud, demanding, and talked nonstop. He reviewed a lot with almost no interaction, so missing class makes you fall behind fast. Heavy WebAssign load—20–70 questions plus a weekly quiz. Still, he was cool and respected the effort I put in before withdrawing.
He teaches super fast and sometimes explains two problems at once which is confusing. Homework requires payment but you get 100 tries per question and midterms give you 3 tries per question. He lets you use 6 PAGES OF CHEAT SHEETS on mid terms which helps a lot since he writes fast.
Very fast lecturer and doesn't interact with students. You have to pay $60 for webassign to do homework and exams. The homework is a lot. There are an average of 20-30 questions every week for homework but when he assigns it, it's due next saturday. He kinda just sits behind the computer during exams and doesn't do anything. He's kinda introverted
All work is done on WebAssign, but you had multiple attempts on the midterm and quizzes. Exams are unproctored, but relatively easy. Lectures fast; he 'does his own thing' and then asks if everyone understands at the end, but his work is clear. If you pay attention in class, it's an easy pass.
best math 1B prof at deanza !!
