He's good at what he does. He follows the textbook very closely and definitely knows the material. The examples done in class are not usually as hard as the exam questions, but he does review a practice exam the class before the exam. He sometimes makes minor errors (ex: + instead of -, forgetting a power). The textbook is used independently.
Good professor. He's very easy to approach and teaches the material very clearly. Test are ridiculous and don't really test your knowledge of calculus, just your ability to solve very tricky math questions. But overall great professor.
Simply the best professor, I have ever had....:)
Very helpful professor....Do not miss his classes. Extremely helpful.
It's hard at first to get used to his accent. He is an approachable professor.
This guy is the best teacher I ever had. Yea I got a C, but because I wasn't ready for the final. His accent is tough at first, but he's very personable and will stop down to explain what you don't understand. ALL his examples are well thought out and actually have answers that make sense. You won't be disappointed
This is the best Calculus teacher ever. I've taken calc II 3 times and this is the first time I understand what I am doing. Exams are easy. Lots of hwrk but helpful for the final. He answers all your questions very friendly. His accent is heavy... but don't worry... you'll understand. GREAT PROFESSOR... hats off!
Very nice professor. Easy to approach. Best math teacher i've had!
The more I think about it the more I realize how great this guy was. Very clear, only needed the book a couple times. Accent takes some getting used to, though, and class gets quite difficult near the end.
He has an accent, but it isn't something that will prevent you from learning. He appears to be more thorough than other professors. He reviews the exam using very similar questions. He is quite helpful out of class. I recommend taking him.
Simply the best, goes over formulas over and over, will easily remember them, if you do homework, and don't miss class, you will be fine. very willing to help. Explain till you understand.
Great instructor!!! Helpful with any questions you may have and very thorough in his teaching methods. thumbs up!
He explains the concepts very clearly, and is very helpful outside of class. One of the best instructors I have ever met. He hands out bonus quizzes and homework to help you practice and to improve your grade. I recommend him.
Wonderful professor! Retook Linear Algebra in the summer because I made an F in spring and made an A in his class. Honestly, he is an amazing professor. He made the horrendous subject interesting and easy to learn.
This professor is very helpful. I took this course three times Unfortunately, I did not have Dr. Patel originally, but if I did it probably would have made the difference. He breaks down the topic to make it comprehensible. He has made the difference in my grade.
Very helpful and nice. Gives a lot of examples.
Easiest calculus class I have ever taken. If you are an incoming freshman that took Calc AB and is taking this class for Calc 2, it will be a piece of cake. Super easy, questions and calculations are easy, and Professor Patel is really quick at answering emails with questions.
Excellent professor. This was my third time taking this course and.this wad the first time I understood what I was doing. He explained the subject quite clearly and the additional homework definitely helped me to practice.
Best teacher ever!
Whether calculus comes easy to you or you struggle from time to time, I would still recommend Prof Patel. He's a serious and focused professor who teaches well and does his best to answer any questions you have.If you need help,I urge you to go to his office hours. He's a great lecturer & he's a great one-one professor as well. Highly recommend him!!
I haven't taken math in 20 years, the last class I took was Pre-Calculus. This teacher is amazing. I took him over the summer so it was a lot of information fast. We had digital and paper homework due each week. A quiz or test every week but I can't say enough about this professor. I went to his office for help when needed.
Great teacher! Take him for math, best math teacher I've ever had. Grades fairly, really approachable & really wants his students to do well. Always says to come to his office if you need help. Answers emails almost immediately. Quizzes and paper homework graded easily & digital homework has video examples. Always lets you know what's in the exams.
Fantastic Professor. I took diff calc 3 years ago and thought it would be quite an uphill climb re-learning everything for this class. Even though I did, Dr. Patel was such a good teacher that I didn't have as much of a problem relearning past material and grasping new material.
He is just a great teacher. My first semester at UTD was in Summer, and I took 3 classes. This teacher was the best I ever had. Explains all concepts, keeps repeating to come to him for help and I approached him several times. I got great interest in his class, just go for this professor if you get his classes since they are always overbooked.
The best math teacher I have ever had!! He has an accent but doesn't interfere with his teaching. Overall this class is easy but you have to do the assignments and show up to class to pass. Take home quiz's due every Tuesday, online homework due every Wednesday and in class quiz's every Thursday. A lot of assignments but NOT HARD!
Took for MATH1325 & MATH 1326. Probably would've failed if hadn't. 20 years since I had taken any math. He provides thorough explanation (ask questions) of new lessons and many examples that it makes it easy to understand. I spent many hours in his office asking for help, every time he was welcoming. There is a lot of work for the class

Work Work Work. Lots of it. It's not always hard just time consuming. He's an above-average lecturer and is willing to help in office hours. Got an A+ because I worked my tail off.
Dr. Patel is a wonderful professor. He made such a challenging subject easy to understand. Lots of work but it helped.
Professor Patel is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He conveyed concepts fully and directly and kept the class moving at a quick pace. He was interested in the subject and made a poor math student into a good math student. I wish he could teach all of my math classes.
Every instructor should follow Dr. Patel's style of teaching. He is such an effective teacher. He explains fully in class and responds to emails promptly. He tutors in his office on a whim without an appointment. He goes above and beyond to teach his students. I couldn't ask for a better instructor.
Patel has really good lectures for integral. He tends to go past lecture time but it's only a few minutes. He is very detailed and explains examples in detail also. He is very friendly if you meet him in his office for help or to make up something. He is so willing to teach. His speech may seem a little strange, but he's one of the best math profs.
Very clear and effective lecturer despite accent. Calculus is always going to be a challenging class at the least. Test questions have too many points in each problem. Overall hw and tests were OK and he doesn't require a lot. Nice guy and ready to help but a little ridiculous if you have issues with your grading. Took points off for shorthand.
Before taking this class, math was my least favorite class; I found it confusing and random. However, Dr. Patel helped me appreciate the subject. His lectures and very easy to follow. He does many practice problems and explains each step through the process. He does and good job at balancing the math theory with the application. Great professor.
All sections of 1326 use the same exam. Sections taught by the professor tend to have the highest exam averages. The professor goes over many examples in class. He is sure to repeat necessary information. He gives a lot of warnings for tests. "Remember to include C in your answer for the general integration." Take notes and you will get an A.
BEST LECTURE FOR LEARNING! This guy is all business. He doesnt say hello, but jumps into lecture right away. His material is rehearsed and he has memorized every lecture!! His class ends perfectly on time. Most amazing professor I've taken. Very clear but it can be hard at times. This guy is a must. I wish more professors could lecture like him.
Integral Calculus is by no means easy. You really need to practice the problems in order to do well on the exams. Final exam was definitely one of the toughest exams I've taken, but if you prepare well throughout the semester, things will click in the moment. He is by far the most amazing lecturer I've ever seen. Does the entire lecture by memory!
Presents material in a neat & easily understood manner. He gives great examples, and his deep understanding of calculus is apparent. If you have questionsneed help, he is always there and happy to help. Tests are tough, however, i feel that he gives clear expectations and prepares (through lectures) accordingly. I suggest not skipping this class.
Patel is definitely a great professor. His lectures are very uniform and rigid, to the point where it looks like he rehearsed them before lecture. Lectures seem to take forever, but that's because he tries to show an example of every single problem you will encounter. Willing to stay after class to help students. Very nice and not strict at all.
Dr. Patel is one of the best professors that I've had the pleasure of taking a class from. He clearly explains each topic and gives several examples to back up what he's shown you. If you take good notes some of the homework is done for you as he uses homework problems sometimes in lecture.
To begin, I am not a math person at all. But Professor Patel is one of the best professors ever. His assistance and motivation are truly admirable. Lectures and test reviews are well constructed, and attending classes regularly is highly recommended. For me, just going to classes and doing the big homework pile attentively were enough to do well.
Best professor ever.
Professor Patel is a great professor who really knows his material. He's very willing to help students if they have questions or problems. I definitely would take a class with him again and highly recommend him.
Dr. Patel is amazing . He provides great examples and will help out out if you have any issues. I will say he has a monotone voice with a bit of an accent but he is very understandable. This is not an easy class because you will have to put in work and effort but honestly its not that bad. Give Dr. Patel a chance he is the best math professor here.
Patel is absolutely the best calculus lecturer I've ever had the privilege of learning from. He's prepared every single day with well-practiced lectures that students learn well from because he's patient with the class while pushing the material with his own passion. The material is challenging, but he makes himself readily available for students.
Great professor. Very straightforward and to the point, and wastes no time. Provides plenty of examples during class, which are all similar to what are on the tests and quizzes. Highly recommend.
By far one of the best math professors I have ever had the pleasure of taking. You can tell right away this guy knows what he's talking about, and he is willing to help with whatever you're having trouble with. Will even take questions during the lecture if you're not understanding the material being covered. Professor Patel is the key to calculus!
Dr. Patel is the greatest math teacher. He restored my love for math through his teaching. His lectures are so perfectly done as if they have been rehearsed and memorized. He repeated necessary topics several times to ensure that they have been learned. He is helpful outside of class as well and more than willing to help. I took him for 1325 &1326.
good professor, good lecturer, offers help and actually will spend time with you, although tempered by the fact that he can be a bit derisive at times but not to be expected really at all - just be prepared thats all.
Such an amazing teacher, HE CAN TEACH!! Explains the problems VERY WELL, breaks every part down. He drops the 2 lowest grades for quizzes & hw. Exams are hard tho but its calc 2 so that's a given, he is there for u, and does help, also a reply's FAST through email, TAKE HIM!!!
This was the best math course I have ever taken, even though I realized I was in the wrong calculus course half way through the semester I decided to remain in the class because I loved Patel's lectures. He goes into depth, and his lectures will literally give you everything you need for the exams. Scored A's on exams, he was just that good!!!
Professor Patel is a very powerful professor, he emphasizes on key topics and teaches in a very efficient way. I've never seen any of my professors lecture every single class just off of pure memory and do it as efficiently as Professor Patel. If I could take him in every class for the rest of my degree I would. Keep up the great work!
He has the ability to break down complex concepts and present them in an organized and understandable way. He provides many useful examples, starting with simple examples to complex examples. His lectures are packed full of useful information. If you go to class and take a lot of notes, you will do well. He is a GREAT math teacher!
I believe Dr. Jigar was exceptional in his content delivery. Giving multiple examples of math problem solutions. I just wondered how he taught math in class without referring to a tablet or a text book but this shows how prepared he was and he delivered the content effectively.
This is an absolutely brilliant professor. He lectures in a way that makes even the most complex mathematical concepts easy to grasp and intuitive. If you attend class, take notes, and keep up with the weekly homework, you will do great. It would be impossible to have a better professor.
Patel is one of the best profs I have ever had! I had him for MATH1325 and loved it! He is very detailed in all his lectures if you don't attend you will get lost (as is math in general). If you need help, ask because he will help! HW is tedious but that's with all applied calc hw so not much you can do there. Take him and you won't regret it!
Dr. Patel is the best professor I've ever had. The first class he went over CAL I as a refresher which helped a LOT! He is a little repetitive but it's worth it as it helps you practice for the tests. He writes the tests so gives a pretty accurate review. Be ready to write a LOT and give a weekly quiz, HW and take-home quiz. TAKE HIM!
He is a good instructor but unfortunately his teaching methods were not for me . Sigh. Online homework, in class quiz, and take home quizzes are due every week. Extra credit points for exams. Punctual , attentive to students.
He is a great professor with a very systematic way of teaching. Exam questions were very similar to those given on THQs (one of the categories of homework due each week) and Weekly Quizzes. If you need Applied Calculus for your degree plan, Patel is an excellent choice!
One of the best math professors there is, he really goes through each and every single step for a problem. He also invites students to come to him during office hours for help if it is needed. He is indeed a little dry in personality but he makes that up by really being straight forward and being easy to understand.
Professor Patel is one of the most dedicated instructor I have ever met in my life. He goes above and beyond with every single student. I took this class with a previous Instructor, believe me I couldn't understand anything. He is very systematic and organized, his class are very straightforward and his review OMG (the best). I highly recommend him
Amazing lectures. Easy A if you go to class every time.
Really liked how Dr. Patel would do a quick recap before each class, and background knowledge for new topics. Most classes don't do this they just pick up where they left off, but the recap would help refresh my memory from the previous class, and reinforce the material in my mind. The general approaches to solving the DEs were also very helpful.
Dr. Patel is such a caring and intelligent professor. He will always help you if you need clarification in or out of class. He's accessible out of class in his office hours. The material itself is difficult but if you put in effort and show him how much you care to do well, he WILL help you. Definitely recommend if you want to learn!
He explains the material well, although there were times he would make a mistake on his work. Other than that, no complaints! He answers emails quickly and always is welcoming students to stop by his office with any questions.
Professor Patel has been my favorite professor at UTD due to his passion for the subject, method of teaching the material, and willingness to explain the material outside of class. Highly recommended.
Great Professor. Took him for Diff EQ and Integral Calculus. Was nominated for UT System Outstanding Teach Award, means he is well respected by students and professors. I met him many times outside of class, outside of his office hours, he was always willing to take as long as necessary to make sure you understood. His lectures are just like HW
i hadnt taken a math class in about 3 years and dr patel made it so easy for me to learn and pick back up right where i left off. hes an excellent professor and made me enjoy math. he is VERY thorough, and when i heard others talking about their profs, I felt SO lucky to have dr patel. im sure all of his students made As. hes THAT amazing
Professor Patel was the best professor I've had this semester. He's very organized in how he teaches his material and it's very easy to follow. He is also very organized in the way he writes out the work for us on the board. Excellent professor and I will most definitely recommend him to others!
Amazing lectures. I am not the best in Math however I did very well in this course. Thanks to Dr. Patel. Every lecture was amazing and informative. Dr. Patel is so helpful and genuinely cares about his students. I missed the last two weeks' lectures due to personal issues but then his amazing videos on youtube helped me to stay on track.
Very strong ascent, hard to follow. Notes are ordinary. Application unknown.
such a sweet kind man. Lectures are super detailed and makes the hardest materials super easy. He teaches the material over and over again until everyone gets it with lots of examples. Exams homework and quizzes are the same for all teachers. same format as math 1325.. thq, dhw, quiz and 3 exams final being cumulative.
Take him, he is the best! Lectures are very clear, and HW's, quizzes, and tests are all based exactly on the examples covered in class, he is so understandable and gives you lots of chances to succeed, if you take someone else you are messing up. I mean it
Does not teach you everything on the test. Other profs teach 2418 better! 240p video lectures, hard to read what he writes on the board. Patel responds to all of your questions in a timely manner but has poor communication with the lin alg coordinator. Overall, Patel did not adjust to online well.
My grade never dipped below an A-. Patel is one of, if not the best, teachers I have ever had. He makes the content seem much easier than it actually is and is also deeply understanding of his students. Math was never my strongest suit so I was skeptical before I took his class. If you're getting into Math 1325, take him!
He was clear, thorough, kind, and overall fantastic. We had written hw digital hw, and a quiz due every week, which I didn't mind cause it was great practice for the exams. There are never any surprises, so you'll get an A as long as you complete what's assigned. Wish I could take him again, but I'm pre-med lol
Professor Patel breaks down concepts into smaller pieces that by the end of each lecture I'm able to see how everything works together. Quizzes are like the homework and the tests are like the quizzes so there were no suprises! I've never taken calc but he made it easy! I liked his teaching style so much that I'm taking math 1326 with him
I am taking classes online during summer while working so hoped there is some flexibility. Exams and quizzes can only be taken in a certain time frame which is really tough if you do something outside of college. He is quite picky on how work should be and its easy to lose points on HW. Overall a nice guys and lenient, but tough in a way.
Do not take online
In general, he is unorganized, He lost my quizzes and exam the first midterm and he didn't cover all the lecture in time so it was a lot more self study than usual. Plus the way he explains his lectures is very choppy and hard to follow. I feel like he could have given us harder examples similar to those on the exam.
If you struggle in math, do not take this class. Instead take it in highschool or community college. This class is technically about teaching yourself. He is a kind person, but his kindness wont teach you applied calculus.
One of the best classes I took at UTD. Everything is crystal clear. He even posts the lecture notes online so we can go back and look at his notes. I could not attend classes sometimes but his notes helped me learn.
Professor Patel is great. He knows how to explain concepts clearly & always answers questions. There is a lot of homework (online & paper) due each week, & there are also weekly quizzes, but they're good practice for exams (3). Pay attention, do the work, & you'll succeed.
Prof. Patel breaks down concepts for you in class, and walks you through plenty of examples so you have time to ask questions and clarify. There are 2 quizzes a week and 1 homework a week, but the quizzes are quick and the homework really helps you solidify the content. If you can do the homework, then the 3 tests should be easy.
Prof. Patel was my favorite professor ever at UTD. He made hard concepts simple to understand. If you attend class and do every homework assignment, you'll be fine. The quizzes and homework are very similar to the exams and his reviews for the exams never leave anything out. Just go to every lecture. Best math prof I've ever had.
Professor Patel is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. His lectures are amazing and he explains things very well. He is happy to go over the materials after class if you are struggling. He prepares you well for homework, quizzes, and exams. Just show up and do the work and you should do well. This class was way easier than I expected
Honestly one of the best prof in math department. Just pay attention and go to lectures. Easy A and you learn a lot.
He teaches difficult courses, but he is hands down one of the best professors at UTD.
Dr. Patel has a very nice personality and he's always available in his office hours to help struggling students. The class is hard but Dr. Patel is a passionate instructor and without effort you could definitely pass just by paying attention to his lectures. A golden gem here at UTD.
Great professor who was ready to help students at any time with any questions on quizzes, homework, and tests. Lectures span the whole class and even though attendance isn't mandatory, you still need to attend every class as there is a quiz every other class and homework due the class before. Quizzes are a breeze as long as you finish the homework.
You need to go to lecture, final was hard
Professor Patel is the best math professor here in UT Dallas. I 100% recommend taking his classes. He's the goat guys
TAKE HIM! Professor Patel is the best professor you will ever take at UTD. His teaching style is commendable, and he makes sure to simplify the concepts for easy understanding. There is homework and a quiz assigned every week, 3 exams, and it's straightforward. If you do well on homework and quizzes, there is no doubt you will do great on exams.
