She is a really nice and helpful teacher. She takes the highest two scores out of three quizzes. If you pay attention and do all the homework, you can definitely get an A in the class.
Very sweet teacher. She always motivate and remind us how important education is. She even review us before each test. not to mention she will drop one of those three. She makes her class easy by breaking down complicated topics and explaining it in different ways so everyone in class can comprehend. Ive learned a lot from her.
This is the worst teacher I've ever seen in Ohlone. Learn nothing!!Keeps asking the students who sitting in the back questions every time, even you take notes and listen carefully. She speaks with a strong accent. If you couldn't hear her question clearly then she will ask you to sit in the first row, even you sit at the second row already. Weird!
I took her for Micro. You will do great in class if you participate and do the homework. She tracks students' involvement. She has a passion for her work and wants all students to succeed. Don't text, go to class late or not at all. She notices and takes action.
She is a great teacher, always willing to help you if you need help just ask her. A very kind person, go to the class early, do not skip classes and do your homework on time you will do great. I loved her class, I had never took any econ class before so it was a great learning experience. I highly recommend taking her.
Prof. McQuirk gives clear lectures. I hated graphs when I took Macroeconomics online and after taking Prof. McQuirk's class, I don't dislike it as much anymore. I learned from her straight forward lectures and also from doing the homework. Attendance and participation are important if you want to get an A.
was so helpful. tries her best to ensure all student pass
Hi everyone, If you want to learn economics then take Mrs Mcquirk's classes. She is by far one of the best caring, kind instructors who really cares for her students and wants them to understand the subject and get good grades. Ohlone college is lucky to have such an experienced and kind professor.
GREAT professor! She wants all of her students to be successful in all areas of your academic career. She understands students personally and professionally. She is willing to help re-explain or give you additional resources to help you grasp the concepts. There are three tests, a final and one presentation. Take her and participate, you'll be fine
Jila McQuirk was an excellent professor. She was very helpful & cared about her students. She provided amazing lectures, gave extra credits & had clear grading criteria. You should actively participate in class & perform your presentation & prepare to study for quizzes & exam. I took both BA 102AB. I recommend many students should take her courses
She is amazing professor and always think about students. Helpful!!! I will definitely her microeconomics next semester.
Professor McQuirk is a super sweet lady with an awesome accent! This causes a bit of confusion (for 34 of the semester i thought Adam Smith wrote "Belt of Nations") but she is an incredibly generous professor who is always willing to help. She curves quizzes, drops your lowest, and gives a review session before every one. Take her class!
McQuirk is super sweet and funny. She genuinely cares about her students learning the material. Very clear and easy class.
Great Professor, great class
Her way of teaching isn't exactly the best and her accent kind of throws me off when she lectures. However, she is caring and wants you to pass. Lowest quiz grade dropped and curves depending on the class score.
She really strives to make sure everyone understands the material, she'll explain it 5 different ways if she has to. It's very clear that she cares. Not only that, but has a way of getting the whole class involved. One of the fun classes, where friendships are formed! Her teaching style promotes social connections and a positive learning experience
A caring professor not only academically but also students' well-being. Professor like her, warms students heart. She makes class participate and we learn better.
She's an excellent teacher. I would definitely recommend her for Macro and micro economics class. She's knowledgeable, and has excellent knowledge of what she's teaching. Best professor ever for economics class. I would take her class again. Amazing teacher.
Professor McQuirk is kind hearted and truly cares about her students. She will take it upon herself to do whatever is necessary to help you understand the material. I had her for Macroeconomics in Spring '15 and for Microeconomics for Summer '15. The homework is manageable and does not take too long. Do not hesitate to sign up for a class with her
Taking McQuirk's class really enlightened me of many things going on in the world. I am really glad that I took both Mic & Mac With her. it was truly an amazing intro to eco. she is incredibly hilarious and as long as you work hard, you will pass with an A! His tests are not too hard, and he really does want help every student!
She is kind, sweet, old lady who seems like she needs to be teaching french not an econ class. she is horrible at explaining even the most basic concepts of the economy. if i had grandchildren i would drop them off with her during one of her lectures and they would probably fall asleep. she won't answer question students have. horrible reviews!!!
She is nice, her tests are not too hard. try to participate in her class...
Professor McQuirk is sweet and nice . She wants every student understand the material, so try to listen and participate in her class. The test isn't too difficult, and she will drop the lowest score.
She is nice. She clarifies herself a lot so we can understand the concepts. She seems to genuinely care about our future.
Jila McQuirk is one of the best professor in the Ohlone College. She explain every topic hundred times. I like her so much, she cares about her student. Please take her if you want to learn and want to have A. She makes the subject very easy and you will not forget anything. If you dont want stress, I will recommend to take her. she's Brilliant.
Took microeconomics online, late start. Even then an easy class, maybe 1h work per week. Textbook is required, as all the course material is using the online code. Grading includes online homework (30-40 questions per chapter), quizzes (5-10 questions), and tests (3 including final, 2h each, 60 questions). One extra credit project early on.
She is an amazing person. I took her for macroeconomics and she was pretty helpful. The test are pretty straight forward. Easy A.
Professor Jila is a great Professor. She really takes time explaining everything for students. Her lectures are powerpoint and she draws lots of graph on the board. But she focuses on the main points and explains everything clearly. You can ace the tests if you focus on her lectures and reviews.
McQuirk is an amazing teacher, no doubt about that. Not only is her class not hard, but she is very passionate about what her profession. She will go out of her way to help you in any way that she can! She is absolutely wonderful. She is very clear about the material and always draws graphs to make everyone in the class can understand the material.
She is the best caring professor at ohlone ! As long as you do the assignment and read the book, you will get A. She is willing to help you after the class as well.
I appreciate her effort and dedication toward students. Especially, when she draws graphs in class, she does not get mind to draw the same graphs twice or more until all students understand the material. Taking your class will make you interested in economics, and her passion will inspire you to study harder.
The most helpful and laid back professor at Ohlone. If you do all the online homework and participate during class, you should have no problem getting an A in this class. She genuinely cares about your success and will help you out if you ask for it. She is inadvertently funny and pretty sarcastic.
She is one of the nicest teacher I have ever taken. Her lectures are great. She never hesitates to draw lots of graphs to help students get the material. You just have to follow her words and do the online homework, easy A. I really respect her as an inspirational professor.
McQuirk is exactly the kind of professor you would like. I took her for two Economics classes and the work she assigns is clear, goes over material you need to know like you will know what to study for and be prepared for tests, just do the online homework, pay attention and easy A
Professor Jila is a really good professor, her tests are easy, and she mostly curves your tests even for the final. Participation in her class is really important
She really cares about the students in her class. She always reminds us to eat a good breakfast and get alot of sleep. Her stories about her travels are very interesting. She will call on you if she thinks you are not paying attention. Do not use your phone during class unless it is an emergency. Make sure to speak loudly when answering a question.
Really sweet professor. To get an A, come to class, do the online homework, and read the textbook. Professor McQuirk curves her tests, and even gave us cookies during our final exam. She is willing to help you to make sure you understand the economic concepts.
Late start Macroeconomics online class is very straight forward. 3 tests and online homework. Easy A if you can self-discipline yourself and do the work in a timely manner.
I took her Macro class online and it was the easiest thing ever. Homework that you can do until you get 100% and online quizzes that can be taken a max of 3 times. The tests are difficult but then again it's an online class so you can find ways to work around that. Overall I would recommend taking her online, easy A.
She is very nice and always tries to help you. If you read the textbook and pay attention to her lecture, you will get an easy A.
She is a very nice professor, and always tries to help students, ecourage you. helpful advice for study and for your life. the important thing is : she is very easygoing.
Best professor ever. She explains everything in an excellent way. Pay attention in her class. Participate when she asks questions. Revisions for tests are fantastic.
She is a very sweet person, she really does want you to succeed in her class. Participation is a must in this class so be ready to have to be involved. She doesn't give study guides but goes over everything before you even take the test. Just do your work and don't talk when she does and you will be okay.
Participation is HUGE for her. She's crazy and quirky, but also adorable. Very interesting and easy class. She really does care.
Took the in class Micro class. Easy class but she has a strong accent and tends to go off topic. Expect to teach yourself but overall easy A as long as you participate and do all the homework on time.
She is a great professor, very kind, understanding, and caring about students. She wants you to pass and will help with any questions you have. She goes over all relevant topics in lecture, and she goes over exactly what will be on the quizzes and final, which is very helpful. She is, overall, a wonderful economics professor!
She's honestly so sweet and really knows what she is talking about. Great teacher for Economics!! She really cares about her class and really just wants you to learn. :)
She taught me both macro and micro economics. She has been inspiring me to study hard and help others. The class is not hard because she gives great feedback and explains very clear. Take her class you wont be regret and you will learn not only on economics but the positive attitude that we need in life.
I took her summer class, and the first thing to know is she is really understanding of students' situation. I had to be absent for two weeks on military order, but she didn't hold it against me for not participating (Make sure you have a reasonable cause for absence.) Do the assignments, since it is mainly what helped me in my absence.
She was such a sweet professor. As long as you do the online reading and practice the material, you will do well in the class. Her review sessions are great, and let you know what to study for. She really knows the material, and you can tell she is passionate on the subject. Thank you for a great semester.
She is a sweetheart and incredibly caring towards students. I had a hybrid course and class only met 4 times in the semester, to review for the tests. All homework and tests were online, and it isn't bad if you don't procrastinate. Prof McQuirk genuinely wants everyone to succeed, encourages questions, and will do everything she can to help.
She is so nice and really wants to see her students succeed. Her online class consisted of one introduction post, two midterms, and one final along with weekly homework assignments. Although the homework can get tedious, it is super easy to pass (as long as you do the assignments you will get an A). I would take a class with her again.
I highly recommend this professor. The material is easier to grasp when she explains it.
Pretty simple class and easy to follow along. Not very homework heavy at all usually 1-2 chapters/ assignments a week and the professor will usually remind you of upcoming due dates. As long as you read and review you should be fine for the exams.
Took both BA-102A and BA-102B online with Professor McQuirk. I would not take economics with another professor at Ohlone. Every assignment has a due date. Expect to do one lesson and one quiz a week. Three attempts per quiz. Completely manageable. There really isn't a reason you shouldn't get an A if you keep up with the work.
I took her class which is BA-102 A AND B in FALL 2018. She is the best teacher at Ohlone College. Clear in grading. She makes her class interesting. Super Easy A. A lot of extra credits. However, there were many assignments and quizzes in this class; as long as you do all the assignments, essays, and quizzes, then you would be fine (at least B).
really old fashion, strict, no phone or computer use. not really helpful to be honest. Not really goos at answer questions. boring lecture, very very dry, and sometimes having trouble understanding her the way she speaks.
I took an online class so I can't say too much about her lecturing skill, but I can say she cares a lot about her students and wants to see them pass. Not difficult at all.
She tells you what you need to do to get a good grade, its not difficult if you follow instructions. Do the learnsmart & quiz for each chapter and you will be fine. If you have her in class dont use devices or talk to others in class, you will get called out on it.
Great Professor! Easy A class.
Took her for for BA102A and BA102B. Easiest class ever taken. Super easy A.
The class uses McGraw Hill connect, everything is done thru the system. You read a chapter and answer 60-80 questions while reading it and then take a quiz. The book is confusing and honestly the class could be taught a better way but you could work around it.
The McGraw smartbook was tedious. The chapter could be tiny and still ask you to complete 150+ questions that repeat themselves after Q30. I messaged her after a video assignment didn't teach how to answer a problem. Her reply "the video CLEARLY shows how to do the problem, next time read the book before attempting the quiz again." Thx 4 the help
I took hybrid course, the in class meets were useless. Highly recommend taking the fully online course or in person. She made the 4 in class meets mandatory otherwise you lose points, half the class time was wasted in set up. The whole class is done thru the online system and could be taught a better way honestly but you could work your way around.
Took her summer online macroeconomics class. Very easy just slight tedious. 1 discussion and usually 2 chapters a week. The chapters are done from McGraw hill site, some of the chapters can have over 100 questions just during the reading. There was usually one or two assignments for the chapter that varied from 1 to 12 questions. Manage your time.
Very easy class. The teacher is very bad. Does not really go into explanation well. When she gave lectures last semester she had students summarize material making it look like she does not know it herself.
Unless you want to regret it, don't take her class. She used McGraw Learn Smart book and assigned us do take more than 100 quizzes per chapter, and the final exam gave us 129 quizzes in 2 hours. Horrible! I regret I didn't withdraw from her class. I attended 2020 summer online class.
One of the best professors I've ever had! This's my second time take her class, she is a really nice professor. Assignments consisted of discussion posts and essays. Very lenient and flexible and gave great feedback on work! 10/10 would take again.
She did not teach at all, used the McGraw-Hill online textbook that required you to do 100+ questions per chapter (she would assign 2-4 chapters weekly), was extremely unhelpful in her feedback, and was very harsh on "discussion" post accuracy. I only got an A+ because I knew what I was doing. If you don't know macroecon before you join, good luck.
I took both the macroeconomics and microeconomics class with Professor McQuirk. The set up of both classes were the same. The deadlines were clear and tests weren't too hard. Professor McQuirk was accommodating and she sent out weekly email reminders as well. Overall, I learned a lot from the class and I would definitely take it again.
She is super helpful and accessible. She is ready to answer any questions you may have. Definitely recommend going to her office hours and talking to her.
On discussion boards, she expects ONE ANSWER and ONE ANSWER ONLY! That does not make it a discussion board but should be a quiz if there is only one right answer. She will tank your grade with these discussion boards. When we try to talk to her about it, she gets defensive and threatens to extend homework by an hour (more work). Skip her
I actually dropped this class because the professor does not grade fairly. We have to read the book by ourselves online, and then answer discussions which she grades SO TOUGH. There is apparently only "one answer" and you'll get docked if it is not EXACTLY what she expects. How are we supposed to know what she expects without lectures in class?!?
JUST GIVES BUSY WORK. One hw assignment can you take you days to finish. Hard test. Doesnt give good feedback and only wants one answer to the discussion post, opinions are wrong in her eyes.
McQuirk is a really boring and old person but who really cares cuz she's pretty easy. As long as u do the assignments on time u will be fine. Another plus is that all of her tests and homework assignments are on Quizlet. She is not lenient when it comes to late work cuz she thinks Ohlone is going to fire her if she excuses it for some reason.
Mrs. Mcquirk is the best Professor. She is so caring and always checks in on her students. She is great with her students. Best and most easy class. Be prepared to do your work. Definitely take her class. One of the greatest Professors ever!!!
For a summer, 3 credit course, this teacher is ridiculous. Will grade you down if you don't have a perfect introduction. In fact, the grading is arbitrary in discussions and intro. Work is rather easy but extremely time consuming and completely out of the textbook. If you want to actually learn something I would suggest choosing a different teacher
I'll outline some points of why you should not take McQuirks class, -Unclear what assignments are due and when, writes a due date on the assignment, but then only gives you credit for doing that assignment 3 days before it is actually due. She does not seem to understand the content of her work herself, this should be a big red flag. Do not take.
Quite possibly one of the worst professors I've had. For her online class, she did ZERO teaching. In the whole class, we had to self-teach by using the McGraw Hill Connect app. She just told is which assignments to do, when the tests were due, and that's it. Zero lecture from her, zero help, zero guidance. The homework takes DAYS to do as well.
Professor McQuirk is a very good professor. Her class was completely asynchronous but her layout on canvas was very organized. You knew exactly how much work you were gonna have every single week and as long as you stay on top of it you will be fine. She was very caring and always was willing to help. She truly cares about her students success.
Extremely understanding of busy schedules. If you ever have a problem just email her and be honest. If it weren't for her I would not have been able to pass this class
Took this class for 3 credits during the summer and it was all automated graded assignments from the book. Very long took 4 hours per homework assignment and all from the book. Tedious work and not interested. Did a poor job and no teaching.
This class require the connect format of doing your homework and tests. The homework is pretty easy, just read the textbook and answer homework questions. But, this is all independent work and there are no lectures.
I won't lie there is a good amount of homework but very easy if you read the textbook online. There are weekly discussion posts that are straight forward and very easy. You will do poorly if you don't put time and effort to do all the homework assignments. She allows you to do both BA 102A/B at the same time, it's very easy to get an A.
Shes super sweet and unstanding of time. Wants you to pass. Had a hard time and failed a class, retook it with her again and she even got me a free text book and gave extensions on homework. Was such a sweetheart.
I have so much respect for Professor McQuirk! She does not give up on her students and absolutely does her best to see you succeed. Super helpful and caring. It is all asynchronous work so I love that its all on ur own time and at ur own pace!
Professor McQuirk is very caring for the wellbeing and success for her students. She is very understanding and wants you to succeed, and always checked in on her students. When it comes to late work, as long as you are honest, she is willing to accomodate for your needs. Her class was very reading-heavy but if you stay on top of it, you're fine.
Professor McQuirk was great about giving feedback on the assignments. The Micro economy class has a load of information and takes some time to process all of it, the exams are long and difficult. May be the professor should be giving more information on what chapters are emphasized on exams.
fairly straightforward professor, follows up very consistently to make sure students are completing their assignments before due dates, would def recommend
This course was easy but had too many smartbook assignments which required 10 hours of time every week. If you have other courses, it is difficult to spend two days a week just on homework. Everything is automated so no effort from the professor. I do not recommend this Professor, but if you are taking just this one course then you can take it.
The class wasn't too difficult but definitely took lots of time to do the work. If you study and make the time you should be just fine. She cares about her students so feel free to talk to her if you need help.
I honestly had a fantastic experience with professor McQuirk. The work was straightforward and the homework was beneficial. She made sure her students were taken care of and all you had to do is want to learn. I highly recommend her to anyone. I took the online maco econ class.
BEWARE! Everything is on the book and the program that comes attached. There is no lectures or her even trying to interpret the book in her own words. There was nothing that she taught or did herself. Some might enjoy that. I enjoy learning from a educator that educates me not just assigns major work. STRESSED OUT!
Great teacher for an online class. Gives homework once a week and you can contact her through outlook if you need anything.
The class is very straightforward and she makes an effort to connect with her students. There is a lot of homework and reading but as long as you study, the homework is easy.
I don't know why this professor is rated so highly. She gives excessive amounts of homework, sometimes due in a couple days or for very few points. She also gave me extra time to do my homework but she wanted me to do it on Thanksgiving night?? I would not recommend.
I took her late start class and regret it. There is a lot of reading, and she basically just cram them all together during finals. The homework questions are unnecessarily long, and the due dates are not constant. There are times when she does not even give us enough time to finish both reading and homework assignments. The class was poorly paced
The professor is super nice and helpful. She gets straight to the point on what she wants in the assignment. Participation is as crucial as reading the book, it is easy and simple.
She didn't teach us herself. She expects you only to read from McGraw and doesn't provide any additional material or lecture. The midterms are excessive and do not allow much time to complete,120 minutes for 89 questions is brutal. Grading for discussions seems to be based on whether she likes the answer and marks you down points if she doesn't.
I took her microeconomics class and had a great experience. There is a lot of homework, but that is to be expected with an online class. If you read the textbook and watch the videos you will do great. She also gives really clear feedback on assignments and is easily accessible by email. Definitely recommend.
Straightforward online class, everything was organized into easily accessible modules. Every week, you read 1-2 chapters, do the homework assignments, and answer an easy discussion question. No lectures, you just read the textbook yourself. Homework / tests can be tedious with lots of questions. 2 exams and a final.
A straightforward class with a lot of reading and homework. While the tests can be challenging, the professor makes an effort to connect with students. Using tools like Unstuck ai and the textbook can help manage the workload.
Professor McQuirk genuinely cares for students and wishes them to succeed. There is a lot of homework, but it helps with learning the material and preparing for the exams. She is a compassionate and kind-hearted Professor who is dedicated to sharing her knowledge with students, and she ensures that they complete the class successfully.
I wouldn't say she is a tough grader, but rather an unfair and incompetent one. She had even mis-graded me once because she claimed that I did not respond to my classmate, but proof shows that she was mistaken.
The Lecture is helpful, the grading structure is pretty clear, would like to take her class again.
I feel bad for this review but she is past retirement age and doesn't have the energy or engagement to have a productive class. Her focus is off and random slow examples are given in class that are not on the quizzes or textbook material. She doesn't use a projector or visuals to help learn. Heavily relies on reading the textbook to learn material.
easy class
Professor McQuirk is an active and upright professor. I am not going to sit here and pretend that getting an A in her class was a breeze, but with the proper attitude and mindset, it is very achievable. Classes are participation-heavy, and in order to be successful in this class, you cannot stay quiet.
The class is fully based on the textbook and the activities that come with it. She doesn't have a single lecture that is her own and just has us using the textbook. It's quite boring, but incredibly easy. The way she grades the discussion makes no sense, but they are a small part of the grade. If you want an easy and boring class take her.
She has no set standard for grading her discussions. Her discussions are not due on the actual due date, and deducts points for things unmentioned in the rubric or syllabus. She often deducts points for outsourcing, when the material is not covered in the book. Her weekly assignments are relatively easy and simple, though.
the grading for her discussion posts are so weird. also, you have to complete it discussion posts like a couple days before its actually due, so the "real" due date on canvas is basically fake, which is kinda stupid imo. the weekly assignments were alright tho
if you say the correct answer, if she does not like you (most likely due to you being bored and not paying attention), you wont get any participation points. Does not respond to emails & Wastes a ton of time waiting for a student/class to answer a question when it's clear they don't know the answer. Easy class as far as hw and tests.
Grades very weirdly. Also nothing is weighted, everything goes into one category. All assignments are on McGraw hill which is annoying because they are super picky and will even flag u wrong if u get something correct. Take a different professor.
