She is great professor, very young don't know how old exactly but is preety HOT.She does everything she can to make the class exciting and not boring. But most importantly doesn't try to hard because then it would be annoying.Test are hard.Quizes are easy.Grading is not so great with Quize=5%each(7), Test=30%each(2), Participation=5%ofTOTALgrade.
Would like to add...Her TEST ARE EASY, QUIZES ARE HARD...Not the other way around Overall a great teacher. The class is not bad... Does alot to make you understand...
The name says it all... She's a HOTTIEE, anyhow her teaching skills are superb, Her quizes are hard like the second person said, but test are easy. Very down to earth and open to new ideas. On her quizes and test she throws out the question if majority of the class missed it, if you think you are right she lets you put up an argument give par. crd
she is simply the best
easy to talk to when you need help, lectures are interesting, and dont seem to last forever, like a lot of classes.
SHE IS SUPER HARD! YOU ONLY HAVE 3 EXAMS OVER THE ENTIRE SEMESTER! EXAM1 IS CHAP. 1-5 EXAM2 IS CHAP.6-11 AND THE FINAL IS EXAM3 WHICH IS CHAP.12-16! SHE GRADES REALLY HARD. SHE MAKES YOU DRAW AND LABEL THINGS ON THE TEST BUT DOESNT TELL YOU WHAT IT WILL BE. RARELY GIVES OUT STUDY GUIDES. NOT GOOD AT ANSWERING QUESTIONS. DONT TAKE HER CLASS!!!
Shes definitley a Great Teacher, always willing to help,, shes young so she can relate to her students, just make sure you go to class take notes and pay attention, the test are hard just because theres so much information to learn, but she hands out a ton of study guides and other handouts, overall great teacher
She is the greatest teacher! I highly recommend taking her. Take all of her notes and study them for the tests. She gives students great and useful notes, copy notes onto flashcards and memorize them, the tests are all based on her notes. Very nice and fun!
She is a really nice person, but i would not take her again, unless you do not have a life. Good luck because you will need it!
it was such a dread coming to her class, it was to hard, i would never take her again, i took this class with onother teacher and i got an A with her i got a D.
she is so hard its ridiculous!!!! like another reviewer said, take this class if you don't have a life because if you have a life now, you really wont have one once you take her. big mistake and probably ruined my chances to get into a good school
She's an awesome professor. If you go to lecture, take good notes, and read the chapters you will do fine. I would definitely take her again.
she is a very hard teacher DO NOt TAKE HER you will not pass unless your chained down & strapped to your text book and notes.
i really liked her, but her class wasn't easy. i like bio so i think that helped me. she's really helpful and explains things very clearly. most people i talk to think she's really hard, but i didn't think she was that bad. take her if your major is bio related! she will definitely help you prepare for future classes.
this woman was awful when i went to her office hours to get help she asked me why i didn't spend more time studying. i said i was really trying but i work 40 hours a week. she told me to just drop out of school now because theres no way i could pass her class if i had a job while i was attending. what kind of teachr says that.
Shes a great professor! Probably the best yet, very clear & helpful if you need it...must show up for class & take notes or you'll be behind if you miss even 1 lecture. She has alot of diagrams on her exams & wants you to be very detailed. Overall, she's a great, competent teacher & i hope o have her again.
Wouldnt have taken anyone else. Carbone is a superstar. the information is dense, but she will teach it to you. its not a easy class but you will know your body at the end. study groups, and diagrams are helpful, but most of all dont forget to have fun, it definatly lightens the load.
shes hard. but if you are taking this class for your major she is the teacher you want, she will prepare you for whats ahead. she takes notes in class with you, and you are expected to kno them for the test. study groups and rewritting notes with diagrams is very helpful. good luck. and never forget to have fun.
One of the best teachers I have ever had. I have never even taken a Bio class in my life and passed her class with an A. Don't be confused though, flashcards and hours of studying is a must to be successful in her class, but she makes you want to succeed. If you study her notes front to back your golden.
She tells you is if its on the board its on the test - it she doesn't write it down, don't worry about it - and its true. Her writing on the board is clear and left up long enough to take great notes. Helpful and answers questions.

Ms. Carbone is a fun and patient instructor! Her (chalkboard) outlines/notes are clear and simple to follow. If she writes it on the board, it will probably be on the test. I have taken several Bio classes, Ms. Carbone is one of the best instructors in this multifaceted subject. Studying/memorization are key to a good grade! Great A&P review class.
I loved her class. I had no intentions of going to college, and was pushed to sign up for classes. She motivated me and had faith in me succeeding. I have a lot of confidence and have a passion for biology now. I wish there was enough space to write more to show my gratitude. I declared my major for Biology after I left her class.
I am seriously questioning the reviews below me. Extremely hard, you have to dedicate ALL of your time to studying. No study guides, very hard exams/tests, not very helpful, and sort of rude. Puts you on the spot especially if you don't know the answer. Do not take her class unless you are willing to bury your head in the book the ENTIRE semester.
Miss Carbone is an excellant teacher. She is very clear and her teaching stays on track for exams given. You do have to study hard but she makes understanding easy.
Awesome teacher! Study your notes front to back. I used atleast 8 pcks/flashcards. I knew NOTHING about bio when I started this class, but I became fascinated. I appreciate that she doesn't push her opinions on controversial topics & respects others opinions. Hard class but doable. Extremely nice lady. I highly recommend. Will take her for physio
Great teacher and very enthusiastic about Bio. Her tests follow her notes so write down everything she does on the board. I would also recommend rewriting the notes or making plenty of flash cards. She gives out a lot of extra credit on tests so make sure to write a lot on the short answers part. Don't buy the book; you will rarily use it.
Ms.Carbone is nice but her physiology class is extremely boring. Her tests are very hard especially in the essay questions. She demands you write everything you know in the short limited time. The answers are very subjective. You believe you are right but she is not satisfied. I really dislike the class and won't take her class again.
This is the best teacher I've ever had I can't wait to take her for Physiology, it's alot of material to memorize but if you attend all lectures and labs you will do great! Make flashcards for all lectures definitly helps even if you never have before. And ask her questions she will always clarify anything!
She is difficult and uses metaphors that are inappropriate. We live in the U.S. where all religions live and all cultures live. She needs to be more sensitive.
What a mistake to take her physiology class. I did well in all my classes except the class although I spent a lot of time on it. Her teaching style is really outdate by mechanically copy the phrases of notes on the board. The withdraw rate of our class is 38% points despite of those who struggle to survive in the class and still do not doing well.
The physiology class is the toughest one that I have ever had, I got A in all science classes except this one. She doesn't have lecture powerponit online and just copy her note in class. I really don't like her teaching method because it doesn't help me to learn. I feel it is waste time to take her words from the board. Don't take her class!!!
This lady is hard. i dont recomend taking this class with her. she doesnt help you in any way at all! her tests have like 2 of the same answers for every question. DONT TAKE HER!
This is continued from the comment below: This behavior is not acceptable especially hearing it come from a "professional". Speak to a counselor, the dean or president so that they are aware of what's going on. If not, this will continue to happen at Las Positas.
She is a great instructor who knows her subject. yeah her tests are hard, but if people actually take the time to study instead of complaining here you might actually get a decent grade. i took human physiology with her last spring and i was able to pull an A. she does all she can to make sure that her students succeed. TAKE HER!!!
I have never met a more compassionate, considerate, and knowledgeable teacher on campus. Her passion for teaching and biology definitely shows. Even though Bio31 is an intro course, there's a lot of content to cover. I believe Ms. Carbone does a great job of making the material interesting and understandable. Overall, she's a great teacher.
Yes her class is difficult but it really isn't that bad. Everything on the tests is in her lecures so if you miss class then you wont do good. She told us herself 31 is tough so you have to put effort, this isnt a class to be lazy in. Im not even a bio major and im doing fine, shes a wonderful teacher, take her if you actually wanna learn something
continued from the post before. BY THE WAY all the people rating poorly are just being drama. No, I dont have to bury my head in the book all semester to do fine on the tests. I just read over the lecure notes, and she does put study guides on blackboard. This is what to expect at a 4-year. If you dont plan to leave Las Po this class isnt for you.
She is the best Professor I have ever had. Tests are hard but she is crystal clear in her lectures. Everything she writes on the board is on the test.
For everyone who thinks she is a bad teacher, you are so far from the truth. She is a great teacher, extremely helpful. Her tests are difficult, but its nothing that we don't cover in class. She actually knows what she is teaching, so she makes it easy to understand. I would definitely take her again. By far one of the best teachers that I have had.
She's an amazing teacher!Yes the class is hard because the subject is hard. She really cares about her students and their success. If you don't understand something, she will explain it in detail for you.If you need extra help she will help. Not much work required so spend extra time studying for quizzes and exams and you can get an A. Great teacher!
Absolutely one of the best professors I've ever had. Genuinely cares about her students' success. Lectures are crystal clear and not too hard to follow, labs are engaging and fun, tests are expansive but everything on them is in the lecture notes and extra credit is possible.
I was expecting a challenging course but this was ridiculous. Find another instructor! If you like taking notes to the point of ad nauseum and want to suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome this class is for you. The best thing about the class is that she is easy on the eyes. But YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! difficult instructor
Best prof Ive ever had. Study her lecture notes front and back on flashcards. MEMORIZE them and you will get an A on the exams. Had to do a 4 pg paper she was pretty strict on her grading. An easy speech (I got an A even tho I read off notes most of the time). NEVER had to read the textbook. Just study the lecture and you'll be golden.

An easy speech (I got an A even tho I read off notes). NEVER had to read the textbook. Just study the lecture and you'll be golden. A little less organized then Bio31
What a joke! She goes off of another professors lecture notes, and her typical answer to any question is "I'll get back to you on that", which she never does. Total power trip, and she thinks she is a great teacher! The other teacher is an easy A according to all my friends that took her. Dont waste your time.
Great teacher! Yes, she is hard, but she is very helpful and cares! She will take the time to explain anything to you. Her tests are directly from her notes. She is smart and fair and she is very nice.
Mrs. Carbone was awesome. I don't know how anyone couldn't like her. The course was pretty easy, my final grade was a 94% and all I really did was take notes and look over them before tests. Barely any homework and plus she's super nice. I give 5/5 stars and plan on taking her for all my other Bio classes.
Great Teacher. Just do the following: Attend Lecture/Lab, Take Notes/Finish Labs, Flashcards/Study the lecture notes, and then you get an A in the class. Its that simple. Her tests are very easy if you study. Extra credit opportunity is great just have to go into extreme detail. Didn't purchase book. THe test questions come strictly from lecture.
She's a great teacher!! I appreciate her time to make the summary of the lecture book in her own words and give the students an excellent notes.. As we know, sometimes the lecture science books are pretty confusing.. Her tests are easy as long as you study her notes.. I highly recommend her for Biology and Physiology class!! You'll learn a lot!!
I really liked the class you should totally take the class!
Difficult instructor but fair! Memorize the lecture notes and you will get an A on the test! Also make plenty of flash cards per lecture!
Awful teacher, does not hold your interest. My advice is to take someone else.
anyone who does not appreciate this instructor has no business majoring in bio sciences> she is one who will move you forward and upward.
If you have a job don't bother. She is not helpful and will not move her schedule to help you.
Great teacher- I took her for bio31 and physiology. If you are pursuing a degree in healthcare or science, you will definitely know your stuff after this class. Hard prof, but fair. I had a 78 or 79% after the final and she bumped me up to a B because I gave effort in the class. Take notes verbatim, flashcards, and use the CD w/ text. Take her!
AMAZING! She is a great teacher, she lightens up more towards the end of the term and is funny. She discusses things and makes sure you understand it. Test are from the notes, don't buy the book you won't need it. You need to spend time studying the notes, if you don't you will probably drop like 50% of the other people.
very good teacher. makes everything clear and easy to understand even if the material isn't the simplest. will definetly keep your attention!
I LOVE HER! I had her for bio and phys. She is not an easy teacher, but she knows how to teach the subjects well. I would definitely suggest making a ton of flash cards from her lecture notes. There are no lab practicals in phys, only quizzes. She is always willing to meet w/you during office hours. I definitely recommend her.
A magnificent teacher! Ms. Carbone loves Bio & is more then willing to help you learn to love it also. She is one of the most patient & helpful professors I have come in contact with. She never makes you feel stupid & encourages the class to answer questions out loud. LPC should be happy to have her. I know I'm glad she's there! TAKE HER CLASS!
Tests are based off her notes. The book is of extra help, but not necessary I would say. She is extremely helpful & always willing to go over anything in her office hours. She is such a sweet person! I plan on taking her for Bio20 & Physiology.
Awful teacher,i do not recommend any one to take her class.I went to her office to get help however she adivised me to drop the class. I have never had this kind of teacher before. what kind of teacher says that
Shes a great teacher, but i dont like how the points are given. 4 major tests and a research paper and THATS IT. Each test covers like 5 chapters and its overwhelming. I'm not dissing her teaching at all, she really knows her subject but I wish there was a better way she does grading because if you fail 1 test you can't get higher than a C overall.
Ms Carbone is AWESOME! Ive hated and dreaded bio my whole life and she has completely turned it around for me. Ive dropped 2 bio classes within 2 weeks before and I finished her class with an A! She is not an easy teacher, but she is clear, very helpful and will answer any questions to help you succeed! TAKE HER CLASS!
Ms Carbone is the best science teacher I’ve ever had. She is very professional and organized. Exams were based on her lecture notes, and she always provided us with extra time during exams. She knows how to teach and what to emphasize, but you also should read the text before the lecture. She is very stylish also.
I recommend only taking Bio31 if you are extremely interested in the medical field (pre-med, pre-dent, nursing). It was a very difficult course with a lot of dense material. A LOT of study-time is required. I am normally an A student and this course was very difficult for me. Manage your time wisely.
I have the same issues to complain about with all the rest of students who dislike her classes.what kind of teacher discourages you to attend a class and straightly chases you from her lesson and doesn't care at all about how are you gonna do in class?DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER OPTION
This teacher does NOT deserve the poor reviews she's had. If she told you to drop the class it was in your best interest. She's passionate about biology and her lectures are focused and informative. She encourages participation and reinforces curiosity. Yes, you are expected to work hard, but that will only benefit you later. Study lecture notes!!
I love her! Im not smart but i still managed to receive a high B. How? attend her lecture class + lab everytime & RECORD her lectures and listen to it and retype your notes. That's how i pass her class, plus she's very helpful and very detailed with her notes and you'll learn alot from her. Shes very smart & explain things very well. HIGHLY RECOMD.
Listen up guys. Jill Carbone is NOT an easy A. With that said, she is extremely knowledgeable and teaches her lecture accordingly. All her tests are from her lecture notes, so there are no surprises. She pauses between heavy topics and asks for questions, she hands out study guides for each test and does a "jeopardy" review for some of the test.
Ms Carbone is a great teacher but you half to be at class everyday, record her lectures, due her study guides, and study almost everyday. You have to work hard in her class to do well.
Really great instructor. Very hard class, but Ms Carbone is very thorough and all questions on exams are from lecture notes. Study often and be willing to put in the time to understand concepts. Record lectures, rewrite notes, study...
Wonderful teacher. Always willing to help. Makes class fun and interesting. The only reason she told students to drop the class is if they couldn't handle it. Work hard and you'll pass the class easily.
Do not take Bio 31 with her unless you are seriously considering to work in the medical profession. She expects a lot from you. I am not a bio major and barely made it out with a C. This is not an easy class. Take Bio 10 if you are just trying to meet the UC bioscience pre-req.
The class is more time-consuming than it is difficult. She gives perfectly outlined lectures and notes. Stayed on track with syllabi. All I did to study was make flash cards word-for-word from her notes & aced it. She's organized, professional, helpful, not boring to listen to. I'm surprised how much I learned in just one semester. She's perfect<3
i thought the first few weeks were the hardest, b/c u have to learn the weird properties of molecules and cell anatomy, but once u got that down its makes a lot of sense. the lecture schedule is well planned. the hardest lectures are right before the W date so if students are struggling, they can drop on time. the rest gets simpler towards finals.
Carbone is great if you're a nursing or health sciences major and/or you're totally willing to work for your grade. Her office hours are a bit tight, but she is very accommodating to students with appointments. I highly recommend her class! Quizzes and tests are very lecture based.
I need to stick up for Jill. She is an excellent teacher. She is super clear on learning objectives. There are no surprises on her tests if you study. She is passionate about the subject and checks frequently to make sure her students understand. Having said that, she is not easy. If you want an easy class, don't be a healthcare professional.
Ms.Carbone is difficult. She has this mentality of teaching students at the university level. I got frustrated with her plenty of times. She does not give study guides for exams, so if you need these to study, I don't recommend taking Bio 50 with this instructor. She tells you to learn it on your own. I thought her teaching styles were crap.
love her!! she's really friendly and you can tell she is passionate about the class. if you love anatomy/physiology and are interested in a health care profession you will LOVE the class! the work is what is challenging, not so much Carbone. STUDY, go over notes, and show up to class. take the time to learn the material. Fun class!
Jill Carbone is a fine teacher. She is completely fair and is willing to help out students as much as she can. She also has a great attitude which grabs students attention. Study a little something called the notes and you should be fine in her class, after all...its introductory biology. Thank you Jill, you've been great.
I am currently taking this class over the summer and let me tell you-it's flipping hard! I took 2 years of AP Biology in high school, and it's basically that condensed into 8 weeks. She lectures well, but I'm very disappointed that her study guides are not all inclusive of the topics for the tests. She loves her job, but you have to study A LOT!
Carbone is one of my favorite professors. She's very helpful and is easy to understand. Heavy emphasis on note-taking and lecture, attendance is a must! Do not wait until night before to study for her exams either. No HW, minimal if any use of textbook. I found the labs fun but keep organized for the practicals and stay on top of studying.
Carbone is among the finest professors Las Positas has to offer. Physiology is a tough subject, but her explicit and detailed lectures make the material rather lucid. Study her lecture notes and you're golden. I got an A because I worked and was diligent. Not hard to achieve.
Very hard class. She's nice but isn't good at teaching the subject. Very scatter brained during lecture, notes were hard to follow. Test were brutal. No extra credit. Grade mostly based on tests. I wouldn't take her again.
Jill Carbone is a great teacher, her tests are based mainly on her lectures, so memorize those lecture notes!
Jill Carbone is one of the best Science teachers I have had. Granted that Bio31 only skims the surface on most subjects, but her lectures explain everything so well that anyone can understand the topics. She tests purely off of her lectures, but she rights out your notes for you, so just copy what she writes and you're golden.
Ms. Carbone is an awesome teacher. She expects a lot from her students and if you skip lecture (not mandatory), you are going to miss the course. She usually writes everything she talks about in lecture on the board, you just need to copy it ALL if you want to know what's on the test. Labs aren't difficult and she lets you leave early if you finish
If you are looking for an A don't take her for Bio. She likes you to know every detail and is so focused on little things. Her tests are so hard that you think she is trying to fail you. Towards the end of the semester there are barely any students left, so many people fail taking her class. The only good thing I can say is she teaches well.
Carbone is amazing. I struggled in biology previously in high school and she made me truly love the subject of science. I wish she taught every science pre req I needed! Her lectures are amazing. She writes with you and draws pictures. You do have to study hard since her tests are tough but that's expected for a science class. Love her!!!
She's great when it comes to teaching the subject. Helping students specially those whom are struggling, NOT her thing. Doesn't like wasting her time, the first thing she recommends : drop the class.
Good at lecturing but bad at writing tests. Her lectures barely cover 50% of the questions on the test. Example, her test answers might give the options A. B. C. or both AB, but she has never taught what B was. Midway through the semester, half the students have already dropped. Quizzes every week, she does not check your work, only answers.
Carbone is a fantastic teacher. She presents the information in a way that makes sense the first time and is very clear as to what will be on the test. Her tests are difficult though, not going to lie. However, if you take the time to study EVERYTHING, you can do well. Physiology is a tough subject, but she made it easy to grasp the concepts.
Teaching style is to the point and she is very descriptive. Points are based mostly on exams and she does not give extra credit. Exams and quizzes are tough. Its easy to slack because she doesn't assign homework on lectures but everything is fair game on the exam.
Carbone was a great Professor and her lectures were always super clear and easy to follow. She's really good at explaining things and taking questions. She genuinely wants you to pass, and she'll help you however you can! I definitely recommend her.
Ms. Carbone is a great instructor. Some might argue that she is a tough instructor but as long as you understand the material you will be fine! This is not an easy class you will have to work for your grade & Most points come from quizzes & tests. I loved her class because as a nursing major it was very valouble information to obtain. STUDY STUDY!
The first thing she tells you is her class is hard so drop the class. Her exams are REALLY hard. I studied for hours and still would get Ds. I'm a 3.5 student so it was frustrating. If you are taking this for general ed, DO NOT ENROLL IN THIS CLASS
She's a nice teacher, but I recommend that that you stay on top of it with the class, bring a recorder and really study those notes. The points are mostly based on quizzes and exams.I didn't like that she only gives 2 points for every lab that was done which are pretty long labs sometimes. There's also a research paper. Hope this helps. Goodluck
Mrs. Carbone is a great professor. Very great about being available for office hours. Textbook may be helpful but most of the tests are based on class notes. Definitely not an easy A but if you put in the work you'll be fine.
If possible take another teacher; Prof Carbone knows her stuff and her lectures are not that bad however, her way of grading is not the best and her quizzes are hard. Her exams are not direct and always worded weirdly so many people don't do well. No study guide you have memorize her lecture notes from class. No power points. She is a hard teacher
Your grade is made up mostly of your tests. Little classwork.
Knows her stuff, lecture heavy. All tests based off lecture notes. Extremely hard tests you have to put hours in in order to pass the class. Would take with a different teacher if possible.
She is a good teacher, BUT test are what counts for majority for your grade, multiple choice is hard and you have to really understand the concepts, at the end of test she has written question and if you go more in depth of the question she gives you extra credit. Test are all on the notes she lectures in class, quizzes are on the labs.
She is tough and expects a lot out of you but honestly I learned so much I have never taken a more time consuming and difficult class. On the other hand she really prepares you For ex. when I took the TEAS you have 1hour to answer 30 science questions and I answered them in 15 min because I knew my A&P. I got a 93% on the TEAS because of this class
Dr Carbone is a really great professor. She is very clear in what she wants you to understand and everything on the exams are talked about in lecture. That being said attendance is very important so you know what is being explained. She doesn't give homework. Labs are easy and she lets you leave early if you finish early. Study the lecture notes!
I didn't need an intro to biology course, so I can't speak much to the difficulty of her class. However, despite not being very challenging, I still felt very engaged during both lecture and lab. All graded assignments felt worthwhile and there was no busy work. I never felt like my time was being wasted. would recommend
I really liked Dr. Carbone's class. She explained everything really well. She treats us like adults which is really nice. Make sure you attend lecture and take notes because she writes down everything that is on the test. Memorize the notes. There is one term paper and presentation. Labs are pretty short in comparison to chemistry or microbiology.
Very good lectures and knows what she is talking about. Tests are from everything discussed during lectures. Easy labs. Grades are mostly based on tests. 2 lab practicals and an easy written assignment. Professor Carbone really cares about each of her students and wants them to pass. No homework, just attend all lectures/study and you will pass!
I like Mrs. Carbone, I took her for Bio 30. The hard thing is that there is only 4 test (100 points each), 2 Lab Practicals (60 points each) and 2 notebooks checks (20 points each) in the whole class. So if you do really bad on the tests you are kind of screwed. But if you get at least a 70% or higher on everything it's pretty hard to fail.
Probably the best science teacher I've ever had. I've taken both BIO30 and BIO7B with Prof Carbone. Attend every class, memorize and re-read the notes. Caring and understanding, the class structure and grading is fair and straightforward. Highly recommend for any science class you need to take.
if you're looking to get into nursing school I HIGHLY recommend taking Mrs. Carbone's class. Not because it's an easy A, its not. you have to actually learn the info if you want to get into nursing school and the way she organizes her lectures makes learning physio a breeze! but dont forget to study, she lays it out but you have to put in the work.
Mrs. Carbone is a really tough grader and does not believe in partial credit. She makes her class really difficult. When the class first started, there was about 50 people and when it was time to take a W there was about 20 students. The first day you walk in, she says you probably wont pass my class. I was not a fan of her.
She was a great professor many moons ago for intro Bio, but gosh, she is awful now. The lectures are way too difficult to follow. No ppt slides, just whiteboard. ONLY tests & quizzes. She's intimidating and looks annoyed when you ask for help. Emailed her once to confirm my answers were correct and she responded with "Ask your lab group".
Prof. Carbone was and is by far the toughest teachers I've had. She is heavy on notes and will get most of her test questions from them. I've taken her class two years ago and now I'm going through the nursing program and I thank myself for taking her because I still remember the physiological explanations of the body. This class will not be easy.
Prof. Carbone explains the material really well and very detailed. I must admit that this class was very hard and you do need to spend a lot of time studying for this class. I think in the end, only about 16 people stayed, and the rest dropped. Overall, this class will prepare you if you want to go to a nursing school or any health care field.
Honestly just read the textbook and listen to lectures. She gives EC for great short answer questions on the tests. Lots to cover, but amazing teacher who genuinely cares and wants you to learn not just memorize. LOVED Carbone and if you work hard, you'll love her too
This is probably the worst Professor Ive had since Ive been in college. I do not recommend this Professor if youre expecting a study guide for exams. I really dont know how people pass this class. Some items on the exams are not covered in lecture but are given during the test. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR if you dont want to ruin your standing.
I have got As in all my science courses including Anatomy in summer, yet failed course somehow. The tests are long and have no study guides or are open note, and things we didn't cover are on the test. Questions on exams are unclear and sometimes a few words long.
Took Physio and micro at the same time. Prof Carbone was very caring but VERY strict when it comes to grades. She had very comprehensive lectures that cover exactly what's on the exam (most of the time). Towards the end it gets more comprehensive (explain how more/less calcium effects the body). Very accessible and offers mentor help if desired.
Not my first pick, but I am glad I took her. Lectures and powerpoints are the #1 way to pass the exam, everything there is your study guide. The textbook was useless unless you're more of a reader. Research paper and PP towards the end. Exams (mostly), quizzes, and labs make up your grade. Starting Nursing school and her class really sets you up.
Exams were very hard and there's no study guides. It felt like the exams were completely different from what we went over in lecture. Not even remotely similar in my opinion. She doesn't connect with her students or engage with us other than just teaching the lecture material. She'll teach one topic & then just expect you to understand immediately
I took this class years ago and it was the worse class I've taken at Las Positas. In the beginning, there were around 30 students, by the end, all but 5 dropped the class. She does not like helping students, I've been to her office hours before and you can feel like she thinks you're wasting her time and does not want you there. You've been warned!
The professor is super passionate about the subject and has great lectures. However, her flexibility towards accommodating a student is not that great. Her study guides also make you go through lots of information that isn't on the test. Sometimes, she even mentions info that are going to be on the tests but isn't actually there.
She is one of the best professors I have ever had; Very understanding, willing to work with you, and genuinely cares. This class is not for the weak, you have to put in a lot of time and effort to understand the material. The tests are complex, but the answers are covered on slides and lectures; you have to learn the material. Take time to study!
Her exams are extremely difficult, be prepared to dedicate 2 hours plus a day of self learning each day. She does not curve at all. Would not recommend.
I took this course a few years ago and loved it! She is one of the best professors I have had. She is tough because she wants you to learn the material. If you take good notes and put the time in you should have no problem getting a good grade. I would recommend recording lectures as that helped me. She is a lovely person and will work with you.
She's an amazing professor. She's mostly accommodating, but I can tell that she cares about her students. I had a hard time in her class as her tests were extremely difficult, but she's so approachable and understanding.
Jill is a tough but rewarding professor. Her exams are challenging, but attending lectures and using tools like unstuck ai for study prep can really pay off. She cares about her students' success, so put in the work and you'll learn a lot.
Very reasonable and nice, she will understand if there is anything that comes up in your life and will let you do work for credit even if its late. She is a good teacher and gives good feedback. At the end of the day she wants you to learn and have a good grade.
Such an amazing professor! She explains tough concepts thoroughly, making it easier to understand. She always makes sure to pause and check that everyone understands and follows along, and if someone doesn't, we go over it again. Very sweet, caring, and understanding. Attendance isn't mandatory except on exam days.
