DON'T NOT TALK IN HER CLASS! She hates it with a fiery passion and will take off points from your grade. It's never happened before. Just go to class everyday, take notes, do Math XL, and do text problems for practice. You should easily get an A. Talk to her after class if you need clarification; she will be happy too.
Very FAIR. She will not give you any problems on a test that she hasn't gone over. She is always open to questions so don't hesitate. GIVES EXTRA CREDIT as well. Gives helpful quizzes that help keep you in check with some of the content that will be on the exam and GIVES EXAM REVIEWS. EXCELLENT!!!
She is a very helpful teacher. She grades fairly; there will be nothing on the tests that she hasn't gone over. It would be in your best interest to do the exam reviews, as they are almost exactly like the tests. all-in-all, I would recommend this teacher.
Exams every other week and when you don't have an exam you have a quiz. You get extra credit by doing more online homework. It's a lot of work, but she does tons of examples in class and gives study guides for each exam. As long as you keep practicing the problems you'll be able to pass the class. Definitely one of the better math profs I've had.
SHE TALKS SO FAST that it is hard to fully comprehend every thing just by attending lecture, i recommend looking over the lecture review she give before the lecture. Tests are not to difficult but she does takes points off for stupid mistakes. Quizes are easy enough mostly practice problems she assigns it'll be on BB. LOT OF WORK over all B+
I love her! Teaches by doing a ton of examples, and doesn't leave you to figure things out on your own. Exams are fair (exactly like the review she gives) and quizzes are downright easy. Between hw, quizzes, and exams, the class will take up your time, but coupled with a good TA there's no way you won't learn calc from her. New favorite subject! :)
Knows the subject. Goes through examples super fast. I'm good at math, though so it really wasn't a big deal. Provides notes and practice problems. For tests, gives out handout that have basically the same questions that will appear on tests but just different number. The help sessions are also VERY helpful. Passed with an A+.
Very clear. I loved how she worked out the problems. Made them very easy to understand. She does go fast but its only so that she could cover more material & even as someone who was not good at math, I was able to keep up. Though after her class I felt a lot more comfortable with the subject. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. AWESOME!
Good professor but goes VERY fast and requires a TON of time to prepare for her tests. Her reviews are exactly like her tests, so that's helpful but the tests are by no means easy. She's not very nice, but she knows her stuff. DONT TALK or she takes points off from the whole class.
Lectures are poorly done. Reasons are not often given for a particular step in problem. An easy subject to learn, I thought. Just not from her lectures.
I loved Dizona. I would definitely take her class. Her tests are exactly like the reviews and she drops the lowest test grade. She speaks clearly and does lectures based on examples which are pretty easy to follow.
Probably the only professor who can make calc bearable/passable. Exams are the reviews she gives. Final exam has the same questions as the tests but weirder/harder questions. She actually curved the final despite her saying many times throughout the semester that we would not be receiving any extra credit
Definitely take her! Everything you need to know she does in lecture, lectures are extremely beneficial. She gives exam reviews that are exactly like the exam but different numbers. MathXL Hw only has to be 75% but anything over is extra credit. If you go to class and do hw its easy, if not you will struggle. Cumulative final
She doesn't care whether or not you come to class, which is pretty great. She was very approachable too. She explains things clearly and does a lot of examples which really help put things into perspective and give practice. I liked doing MathXL for the same reason. If you do that alone you should be fine - I never went to class and I got an A+!
Very good professor. Will go over material over and over until we get it and she's very hands on. Offers extra credit and drops lowest exam, quiz.
DO NOT take this professor. I retook the class with her and she was 10x worse than Vindya I. Kumari Pathirana (Who is really good retrospectively). Gives a lot of HW, very sarcastic & kind of rude. She goes through notes SUPER fast, hard grader, not lenient at all.
Honestly I never rate professors on here but I need to rate this professor. DO NOT TAKE THIS LADY. For some strange reason she took out all her reviews so students go into the tests not knowing anything! She gives practice problems but they are nothing like the test! Do not take! Rather take regular Calc I than Life science and fail at that -__-
Dr. Dizona teaches by examples which is good for me but the exams are very difficult. Be ready to study a lot for her exams. Her exams consist of a take home portion worth 20 point and an in class portion which is worth 50 points. She is always there to help students out when they ask. Go to tutoring and office hours.
Stick but helpful. My advice if you take her: never accidentally forget a take home test at home, she will not accept any late work (the syllabus will not tell you this) and do more than 75% of math XL before its due, she will not reopen it and the 20 points extra credit could potentially save you grade. i had to learn the hard way
Dizona's class has changed dramatically. I only took her class because people were saying her reviews are exxactly like her exams just different numbers. THIS IS COMPLETELY INCORRECT! She didn't like that nobody was attending lecture so now her worksheets are nothing like her exams and she is the toughest grader. DO NOT TAKE HER!
Dizona has given me my first C+ in college because her tests have become ridiculous compared to previous semesters. the examples she does in lectures are nothing compared to the ones on the test and she offers no points for minor errors on several questions even if they are not taught. Beware of this women.
The class was easy in my opinion. You cannot skip class at all! Understanding most concepts goes with some explanation, and she's great at that. The take-home and worksheets are great ways to earn A's. However, it's helpful to attend the TA help sessions. Questions explained there appear on the exams. 20 pts extra credit offered through MathXL.
She is very straightforward about everything you need to know. The math xl kind of seemed tedious sometimes. The classes rarely ever last longer than 45 minutes. She simply did example problems and reminded us about worksheets due in Friday classes, the math xl, and tests coming up. The tests were all short answer, no multiple choice.
I do NOT recommend this professor to anyone. She is extremely rude, I did not like her teaching methods. The only good thing is that the tests are similar to the reviews. She is a hard grader she deducts as many points possible on exams. She is NOT there to help you. takes 2 points off of EVERYONES grades if anyone talks too much.
Her test are hard and theres A LOT of work in the class. Practice problems not graded but very helpful. She zooms through the notes but she lets you video record the class if you ask. Does a good amount of examples and goes step by step which I like. I recommend but be ready to dedicate around 4 hours each day just to hang on to that A
Her final was impossible. I do not recommend her as a professor. She's very nice even though you can tell she didnt have many friends growing up.
To me, this class was difficult, but doable. Professor Dizona was clear on what she expects from you, and you will have to work for a good grade in this class. Tests are HARD, but she does give similar reviews to tests, which is good. LOTS of homework, but it does help with learning. Teaches at a fast pace, but a good teacher. Very fair.
Is a really great instructor in my opinion. She goes through a ton of examples in class and is really willing to help if you need it. In class she can seem kind of impatient, but I promise she is actually really nice. She has TA sections as well, those however kind of suck a lot. It's 50 minutes and on a friday, which is when the exams are too.
The class was very straight-forward. She tells you what she expects. Homework was due every Friday (except exam days) during help sessions. Completing WebAssign gives you extra credit. 4 exams and a final and it was pretty much what you did in class. If you listen in class, take good notes and practice at home it is a easy A.
Lectures are clear cut and so are her expectations. Tests are difficult, more complex problems than what she goes over. Doing HW helps and allows you to get extra credit if you do all the problems. One of her TA's, John, was a tough grader. She lets you challenge the test grade but she regrades the entire test and you can end up losing pts.
Great professor. I had to retake life cal because my previous professor would just assume we knew most of calc already. I wished I would have taken her class beforehand. She takes attendance which can be extra credit over time and plus extra credit for just doing your homework. She's really helpful if you ask. Just don't talk during class.
good professor but calc can be a little hard, you have to work for your grade and do the webassign. She pulls test questions from webassign and practice problems so do them!!! practice problems not required so a lot of people dont do them but they are very helpful on what the test will be like!! also GO TO HER OFFICE she is very willing to help
Dr. Dizona is a helpful professor with great lectures. I only wish she would help prepare more the exams, as many students are unfamiliar with the wording of the questions.
Dr. Dizona is a great professor. While she does go through the lectures quickly, it is not because she wants to leave, it's because there is a lot to learn. She is willing to stay late and open up extra office hours. She wants you to understand the content and dedicates her time to show that. She encourages questions and doesn't make you feel dumb.
Dizona can be a little intimidating at first, because she is very strict, mainly about students talking in class/asking questions that have been already asked. However, she was a wonderful professor. She gives out a TON of examples during class, and is willing to help you after class, and even during class. Very approachable and a nice lady.
I wished I would have taken her before I failed this class with a different prof! She's very helpful and wants you to do well. She does lots of example problems. Lowest exam grade I got was a 85. I had a panic attack in another class and I explained her the anxiety I had during exams and she offer to me to take the exam in a more relaxed setting!
Horrible horrible teacher. Won't help you at all. I asked for help on she answered sarcastically or says I can't help. You won't learn at all with her. Will always say I will destroy you if you get your algebra wrong. Everyone that says she's good is lying. She just hates what she's doing. Don't take her class. She's really rude.
She can be strict, but if you ask her a question she will answer. Question why you lost a point on a test, she will explain. Tons of examples in class and willing to cater to you if you just ask nicely. Find someone with tests from a previous year - same format. Tons of extra credit, just have to try. Uses WebAssign but check your answers online!
Excellent professor! She is so kind and helpful and willing to go out of her way to assist students after class and during office hours. She is very enthusiastic about the subject and I love her teaching style. She does several example problems which reflect her exam format. Exams are fair and the format is easy to follow and understand.
Best math professor I've ever had. I don't write these reviews often but she deserves it. I have always struggled with math but in this class I have an A. She does so many practice problems and they are consistent with her exams. She offers a ton of extra credit if you attend every class and do all of the webassign. Highly recommend.
Taking Dizona for calc 1 is a good choice. She grades attendance which may be a downside for you, but its not a bad idea showing up to her class. She goes through problems ranging in difficulty throughout her lecture clearly which you can really benefit from. Go to class, pay attention, do the homework before the test, and you'll pass.
By far the best Calc teacher I've taken. Tests consists of taking a test during the peer leading session and she also gives out a take home portion of the test. Lectures are very informative and actually help with the homework and tests.
Take her for Calculus anything!! I failed Calculus 1 a few semesters ago and was nervous about trying again. She made it so easy. You will regret not taking her. You could get by without using the book but it is helpful for extra practice. Lots of online homework but isn't due till the end of the semester. She gives lots of opportunities for E.C.
Dizona was fantastic. I had a heavy semester and managed to pass without studying all too much. Attendance is required but her lectures are informative and super clear. She goes over similar problems from the last lecture so you're never absolutely lost in her class. Would definitely take her again.
Doesnt teach in class only does sample problems. Writing is difficult to read , her lectures are hard to follow and are very unorganized. A quiz is given every lecture and could ask anything. Overall she has a bad attitude and is disrespectful. Seems annoyed when questions are asked and occasionally gives sarcastic and rude responses.
I like my math teacher very much because she CARES about every student's grades and always smiles. I don't think a strict teacher is bad. On the contrary, miss zona is very responsible and very clear. I'm glad to meet such a good teacher in the first year. I hope I can take her class again
She does move very quickly, but if you ask a question she will stop and spend time answering it. Posts notes ahead of class (they seem daunting, but aren't bad after she goes over them) and practice book problems. You can also take photos of the in-class notes after class. Make a study group for Webassign and take-home exams
So Dr. Dizona puts up a hard front. At first she seems like she's irritated, but she genuinely cares about her students understanding the material. If you have any questions during lecture she'll stop and thoroughly explain it until it is understood. She does a really, really good job of making the content easily digestible.
Dizona always came off as irritated and sort of treated the class like 5th graders. No talking whatsoever and takes points off of your grade if you do talk and the voice she uses when she lectures can get old and talks as if we're 5th graders. However, I did not visit office hours and heard that the people who do had much better experience.
In terms of her lectures she goes over problems you will see on the test and makes sure to cover a lot of versions. Very good at explaining and will do each and every step even if it is the simplest math there is. 5 clickers each day, need to get them all right to get all the points- will bring down your grade if you don't get majority right.
She may care about her students BUT she is very difficult to understand. Followed practice problems, class examples, and online homework, but since she write the exams they were always extremely difficult. It didn't help that during her constant iclicker questions and exams she was always talking and counting down so I would start panicking! RUN!!
The lecture notes would seem relatively easy but the homework and exam questions were absolutely brutal. Many people would not finish before time was called. Course should not have been as difficult as it was.
Get ready when you are taking notes because she will not wait or explain what she is talking about. She will just write them down and expect you to know them. She writes really fast. She has quizzes at the end of classes. She is always in a hurry and complaining. She does not go over the test questions after the test when asked.
Dizona is a solid choice, she is helpful and explains very well. She comes across tough and touchy, but ultimately means well for the success of the whole class. The first exam was the worst for me, but just working on the homework is great to study with. Final is optional and gives you room to improve your grade.
Important to go to lectures (for clicker points and to understand the material). In-class exams 75% of exam grade, 25% was from take-home exams. Final not mandatory (replaces lowest test grade). WebAssign mandatory homework, but great practice for exams. MUST PAY ATTENTION DURING LECTURES! Peerleading once a week, great for asking the TA questions.
Dr. Dizona solves multiple examples of each problem before continuing to another section. The class can move fast, but all the notes are posted online afterward. This is very helpful when doing the homework, which can be complicated, or for studying for the weekly quizzes.
I think I would've done better in this class if she had better handwriting and more organized notes. I like that she does examples, but she goes through them way too fast and her handwriting is so awful that I never knew where one problem stopped and another started. I recommend taking this class with a different professor, if possible.
Dr. Dizona was extremely kind to me throughout this semester. I am a type one diabetic and had a ton of issues that caused me to miss class and she worked with me for each absence. She responds quickly to any questions you have and is very kind and approachable if you ever need her for anything. Her notes are thorough and it was a very easy class!
In the start of the year I checked this website on information for Ms. Dizona. When I saw the low rating, I was scared. However to my surprise this class was nowhere as bad as people make it out to be. Ms. Dizona's tests were straightforward and not super difficult. Webassign was very easy . The only thing I did not like was the clickers.
I think if you're more math oriented she may be okay, but be aware her lectures go very quickly. It can be really hard to keep up especially with her handwriting. My section had peer led study sessions and I learned more in those than the lectures.
Once you get past Jill's voice she is actually a very good professor. I took her class in Fall 2020 and she was very understanding during the transition to an online class, all the tests and homework were done on the software you need to purchase it was not proctored so that was great!
I saw this post that said once you get past her voice she is a good prof and I could not agree more! she may teach faster than some may prefer but its just the nature of a calc class. She is an overall good teacher!
Due to covid my class got moved completely online so i can't really speak much on her lecture style. Though the online notes are very hard to keep track of as everything is written out already making it hard to follow. This is the first time I'm being taught math and not grasping it, as trying to keep up with lecture videos is confusing
I took her class during the spring, she was a good in-person lecturer, her voice was hard to get used to. But once you do shes is good. Her in-person tests were pretty manageable. When we transitioned online all the exams were on the application we used for homework, not proctored, and were open for 3 hours. and I think they were open all week.
She is a really good professor. She may first seem very strict but once she starts teaching she is a really good professor and does her best to make sure every student understands. I took her course online and she posted her notes on the one drive and then during class, we just asked her questions on the homework problems we were confused about.
Dizona gives both an online and hand written exam for every exam required. Her responses in her emails are very rude and she gave me no leeway when I had Covid and had an exam due
I consider myself lucky that I took this class last year as an AP course as I do not believe I would've done nearly as well if this were my first introduction to Calc. Her lectures were very confusing and did not dress specific needs for students who are encountering new material. If you can take another prof do it, she is not lenient
She is awful online! Her notes for class are written as paragraphs which are impossible to understand because who does math like that. If you can take Connelly he is legit amazing and makes everything make sense. I strongly recommend not taking prof Dizona cause she is extremely unhelpful online. I am good at math and she just confuses me more.
Once you get past her voice, her lectures are amazing and all the necessary information needed for the worksheets is all there. grades are based on weekly worksheets, WebAssign online homework, and tests which take up the majority percentage. Used the WebAssign HW to help me study for the tests and have prepared me so much for the test material.
She does not give extra credit there were like one bonus hw that barely helped my grade. I hated how she did the lecture notes. But theyre pretty good except for her voice, it made it very difficult to watch an hour long of lecture. She had due dates at the most inconvenient times. I had to work around her times which was annoying. Tests were ok.
It was good. Not the best professor in the world (read further comments on her voice), but honestly it was a pretty solid class. Do the work and you'll get an A.
One of the best lecture professor I have ever had. She actually goes over EVERYTHING in the problem and doesnt leave details out like others do. If you do everything asked you will get an A
Her lectures are question and answer format so it is not mandatory. She posts videos to learn the material and they are straight forward. Tests are not proctored, and most homework is online. However, there are weekly worksheets and she tends to grade them harshly, but it is super easy to get an A. I didn't show up to one lecture and got a 97.
Dr. Dizona is the rudest prof. She is not accessible to her students when asking for help. She is not willing to go over anything or help you. She is extremely rude and does not care about her students. I would NEVER take her. Extremely RUDE.
HATE professor Dizona. Do NOT recommend. Take anyone but Dizona.
Dizona is awesome! She is very supportive in helping you understand things at office hours and had really good videos for the semester being online. I have genuinely never been good at math but she helped me get an A in calc 1! 10/10 would take again.
My class was 100% asynchronous so it was very lecture heavy but they were always very clear and easy to understand. She gives lots of chances on HW before you start to lose points and the tests and HW content was very similar :)
extremely particular grader. also, overall bad attitude. yelled at us while we were unable to access an exam. love calc but this class made it unbearable. if you are going to take this course with professor dizona, know shell show no mercy.
Do not reccomend this professor, no leniency in grading and yelled at us during an exam, being extremely rude towards students. Class is asynchronous with proctored tests, and pages of work have to be scanned in for credit. Lectures were good for online but not the best for a student who this is their first introduction to Calculus.
Math comes pretty easy to me so the class wasn't hard. She posts her lectures the day before the live lessons. She gives a small quiz after class which is straight from the recorded lecture. Attendance wasn't required all she asks is that you attend the beginning for announcements. The lowest test grade was dropped.
worst professor ever, her tests were so hard and she would only read the lectures her explanation to the equations was trash, wouldn't recommend this class to my worst enemy.
I think it was okay. The biggest downside is that sometimes, she doesn't explain why she's doing questions a certain way. She doesn't actually lecture in my opinion, just does example problems during class. If you do the worksheets and WA homework, you should be able to do good. Obviously, Calc 1 isn't an easy class so be ready to work hard.
Goes very fast and answers questions in a condescending manner. A student that benefits from communication would be better off taking the class online so they know they're on their own.
I liked Dr. Dizona, because she cares. She knew most peoples names by the end of the semester. I think that her test problem choices are harder than necessary. I had two friends in a calc class with a different teacher and there stuff was easier than what we were doing. Her weekly quizzes are based on problems done in class, so take notes.
Calculus is really hard at this level imo, but the way she taught was helpful, I personally learned best by example problems, which was 95% of all the lectures. Attendance not mandatory, but you should really go. Tests and the final were literally the hardest exams I've ever taken, and I'm usually a straight A student.
She wants you to learn what she is teaching but speaks somewhat 'demeaning' to students at times. Comes off as very rude, first experience with a professor who speaks to students this way, especially since we are paying for the class and it's not public school. Does not allow note taking on laptop unless laptop is flat down on desk, just seemed odd
She treats you like you are in highschool. Absolutely no phones or computers allowed. Not even for notes. Her tests are like 12 questions, all short answer. She does give partial credit. You have worksheets due everyweek, along with weekly quizzes and cengage homeworks. The material itself is hard and her lecture is mostly practice problems.
Do not take a class with this professor! She will only teach you one way, will only accept one way, and her teaching style is not for someone who isn't good at math. Very long, boring lectures, and the tests are nothing like the homework. You think you are doing good... then BAM! you get to the test and everything looks foreign.
Literally the worst class you could ever take and I'm not exaggerating, please avoid this professor at all costs she will single handily ruin your GPA and cause so much stress. She has 3 exams in person and is all close to impossible and she doesn't curve, god forbid you to have an emergency you will fail because she is not accommodating at all.
Initially thought bad reviews were just from bad students. But our first class, she told us that everyone fails her class. I was good at math and studious, so I did not believe this. I really struggled. Jill simply cannot teach. Only goes over examples and does not teach how to apply. Reads straight from the book; close to no additional sources.
Single-handedly the worst class I have ever taken. I barely passed by the skin of my teeth. She chooses the most difficult questions - ones that she did a single similar question in class - for exams, which needlessly inflates the difficulty. She's a wonderful person but I cannot recommend her, especially if you struggle with math.
Jill is downright awful. Honestly one of the worst individual I have met. During the school year I had caught covid and I informed her than I needed to reschedule my test. She said she needed further proof of COVID apart from my positive test from CVS. I had to leave quarintine to get another test and risk infecting other people. Biggest ego ever.
For the very hard class calculus is, Dr. Dizona helps you to understand the material. She does not like interruptions or phones in class. But if you pay attention and attend every session you can do well.
EVEN IF you have to stay in school another semester, at all cost, do not take this professor unless you are already an expert in calculus and require no teaching on the subject. She cannot teach for the life of her. The average on her first exam was a 56%. Worst professor I have had my entire educational career, and Im a senior.
Professor Dizona makes concepts very clear. I always hated math but she made me hate it less because I understood it. Fast-paced lectures. Big extra credit boost if all MathLab weeks are completed. Final is mandatory and closed-book but can replace lowest midterm grade if higher than it. 2-3 homework assignment a week and weekly quiz.
Professor Dizona teaches with practice problems. Which works well for me, maybe not for everyone. I didn't love or hate the class, but it was difficult. She wasn't a bad professor, it's just hard to make business calc interesting. Aside from a very strict NO TECHNOLOGY policy, she did want everyone to succeed in her class. I'm glad I took her class
This was by far one of the hardest classes that I've ever taken in that I am already not a math person. Her lectures are extremely fast paced and not at all interactive or engaging. It almost feels as though she is just talking at students and it is very hard to understand concepts in the way that she teaches. Take this class online!
I typically find something positive about every professor, but not this one! Everyone in my class agrees she is cracked. She's so rude. Her exams are very difficult but doable, her homework is doable and time consuming, and she is willing to help you outside of class, but she is not a professor I'd recommend if you want to stay sane. Truly wicked.
Dizona's teaching style works really well for me. For each unit, she has notes available for you to print and follow along with, then she will do practice problems on the board. While the exams are difficult, she is open about the material on each exam and will give you exact problems from the textbook to do as review.
I would agree she can be abrasive, but I took this class as a senior and so many students were rude as can be to her. The class split was heavily freshmen who talked a bunch during class, left early came late frequently. She very much wants everyone to pass, but people I think overlook it. She was one of the best college math profs I ever had.
Great teacher. About 4 assignments per week. Final exam replaces the lowest of three midterm exam grades. Strict grading on exams and paper assignments, however working was outlined in the lecture. Recorded lectures were posted incase of a missed class. Mid terms exams worth 15% each and final worth 25%. Made herself available to answer questions.
Dr. Dizona helped me with anything I needed when I asked. She was a great professor, but not really the best personality. She was very dramatic in class and distracting during exams. There was weekly homework, quizzes, and worksheets. 3 exams + the final. Do the homework, study all the problems for the exams, and you'll pass with a good grade.
Great class
If you have the opportunity to take a different teacher, I would recommend it. The class is not overly hard, but she teaches very fast, and lectures are important. She does not take attendance and uploads lecture videos for those who miss class. She is nice with partial credit on tests but sometimes is not good at explaining what was done wrong.
Mrs dizona is very sweet and cares, is willing to stay to help out. however shes obviously very smart on her subject and it causes issues with her ability to teach it. Its almost like she cant understand your perspective because shes so versed on it. workload is very large and with multiple quizzes weekly that take easily an hour each.
If you have the option, DO NOT take this professor. I had already learnt all the topics in high school, so I could tell how bad she taught them. She does not care about her students, didn't even ask us our names. The whole class is just her talking non-stop. I didn't give her a one just because exams were fairly easy.
Dizona can be blunt, but she wants students to succeed. The class is challenging, but her teaching style works well - practice problems, review materials, and availability for help. I found unstuck study useful for prep alongside the textbook.
Hands down one of the worst professors I've ever had. Some say if you learn by examples then she's ok but truthfully the entire class she's talking AT her students, not to them. She's straight-up rude when you ask questions, the exam questions have incomplete wording, which makes them incredibly difficult to do well on AND her voice! SAVE YOURSELF!
If you can take another professor, take the other professor. Her feedback on tests and worksheets is very hard to understand. She acted very annoyed whenever you would ask a question. However, you can tell she is very knowledgeable in calc which can make it hard to learn from her. There are 2 quizzes per week and about 3-4 homework a week.
