This was a very difficult course but it's very useful. I read each chapter in the textbook before watching the lecture and then I printed out her lecture notes and wrote on them as I watched her lectures. If you're not an accounting major I recommend you take this class elsewhere. But is is manageable if you put a lot of time towards it.
Very hard class. It is a weed out class so be prepared for hard exams. Tutoring is HIGHLY recommended. She is boring, but the subject really isn't interesting. Homework is not graded but it helps. 3 exams are 90% of the grade, so do bad on those and you are screwed!!!
Goslinga goes out of her way to make the class hard, but it's not impossible to do well. You really need to practice old problems over and over again. The book wasn't helpful. And definitely go to TZ, they know what they're doing.
I really enjoyed the class. I am an accounting major and it prepared me for my high level classes. I would not suggest people to take it at UF unless they're accounting majors, you don't need the depth that Goslinga requires you to learn in the material.
I got a C in this class at UF over summer C. Weekly quizzes are worth 10% of your grade with each test being 90%. She doesn't curve heavily, about 40-50% of the class gets a C but only the top 15-20% get A's or B's.
As long as you read the book, watch the lectures, and do the homework problems, you should definitely get an A. People who say this class is extremely difficult probably didn't do the homework, because it isn't graded; however, the homework problems are almost exactly like the questions on the test.
You have to work for the grade. The majority of the class gets a C. You need a B for Accounting Majors. Everyone else needs a C to pass. Read all chapters, go to live lecture so you are not distracted watching it online. TA's are very helpful and TZ as well! Quizzes straight forward, and tests are tricky.
Goslinga sets you up for failure on the exams. I suggest going to the lectures, doing all the homework, reading the textbook, and definitely get the full semester reviews at TZ. Eat, sleep, and breathe this class and its possible to pass. The quizzes are easy, but make sure you do them to get the points, you'll need them!
So she is a nice individual outside of class but for class (and particularly tests) she is a pain. The only way to survive is with TutoringZone. The concepts are easy but the tests are a pain in the rear.
Class really isn't as had as its' reputation would have you believe. Just watch the gorram lectures and read the book and you'll be fine. I watched every video and read every chapter and got an A. No TZ or studyedge, I didn't even do that many practice problems. You guys need to stop complaining!
This is a deceptively hard class. Just when you think you understand the material she actively tries to trick you on the tests. She sometimes curves exam grades but do not rely on that. I used TZ for the second and third exams and it helped significantly.
Don't take it over summer. It was the one and only thing I did for summer A. The practice exams she gives you are from THREE YEARS BACK how are you expected to prepare for the exam with those? The exams are beyond tricky. I read every chapter, did all the pre and post HW, the quizzes, the tests, everything. I barely passed. Take it somewhere else.
DO NOT TAKE AT UF! I studied diligently for weeks leading up to the exams, using TZ, old exams, practice problemseverything. I could teach the concepts I had them down so well. Taking the second exam, it was blatantly obvious she was trying to trick us. She makes this intro class unreasonably difficult. Unless you're an accounting prodigy, beware.
Goslinga knows what she's talking about, no doubt about that. The material isn't individually difficult but it's a lot of material and really to mix up if you don't do the work.
She really knows what she's talking about, and does a pretty good job of getting it across. The hw is not mandatory but honestly of you do it and understand it you'll be fine. Just make sure you read each question on the exams really carefully because they do get tricky.
Professor Goslinga herself knows what she is talking about. She is clear cut in her explanations. The absolute biggest advice I can give-DO NOT assume your grade will be similiar to old practice exams! The real thing is much harder. One is not even a real exam the other is a summer exam. Stay on top of it, do weekly if you can at TZ or SE
My first piece of advice is take this class at a community college. I promise you the stress and anxiety from Goslinga is NOT worth it. If you are dumb enough to take it at UF (accounting majors) make sure you get Study Edge because you're crazy if you think you can do it alone.
Pretty much knew what I was getting into when taking this class - it's not fun and definitely not easy material. I struggled a lot as the class was getting started, but ended up doing okay in the end. Big shoutout to Study Edge because relying on Goslinga alone won't help out your GPA.
The class is exactly what it's said to be. Very very tough and a lot is weighed out on the 3 exams throughout the semester. Her lectures are hard to get through so I used study edge to help me pass the class. Ended up with an A
Horrible excuses of a professor. Exams are ridiculous and the difficulty gap between practice problems provided and what's on the tests is massive. Unless you're an accounting major, do NOT take her class.
This professor is great. Yeah, the class is hard, but if you are a UF student you should be able to handle that. School isn't about finding really easy A's. It's about actually learning the material so that you can be useful to the world after college. Easy A's don't make you useful to the world. Professor Goslinga does.
Professor Goslinga is a very knowledgeable and really cares about her students. If you really try to understand the material, you will do well. Do not use StudyEdge or TZ because they are not needed, it's a waste of money. I got an A in the class without using either of these services.
This class is extremely difficult because it is a weed out class and it is designed for students to fail (too many business majors). If you go into the class with this mindset then you will likely pass. You'll need to study for at least two weeks for exams and definitely use Study Edge because they want you to pass while Goslinga does not.
The class is definitely one of the toughest classes I've taken here at UF. Although the tests are hard, Goslinga is a good professor. She knows what she is doing. My tip would be study at least a week in advance for every exam. Also, get good grades on the quizzes and group projects. If you do them, you will be fine.
Definitely a tough class. Do not underestimate this class going into it and be ready to put time and effort into it. If you are comfortable and somewhat knowledgable with accounting then don't get study edge, if not then get it. Be prepared to study for over a week for each exam and don't be afraid to drop the class. Do not rely on the curve.
She explains basic accounting well enough, but she makes the subject more dry and boring than it needs to be. Read the textbook, make outlines, and watch every lecture if you want an A.
I took this with no prior knowledge about the accounting and I didn't use Study Edge or TZ at all. If you watch each lecture thoroughly (write down everything) and do ALL of the MyAccountingLab questions you should be okay. This class is difficult so schedule a lot of time for it. Don't get behind on the lectures! STUDY STUDY STUDY FOR EXAMS!
She is a very clear lecturer. It definitely helps if you read the chapter before watching or attending lectures.
C+ is the only C and lowest grade I have ever received. For the first exam, I relied solely on watching lecture and reading the book, which resulted in a D. For the next exam, I started using Study Edge and the practice exams they provide, and I did a ton of practice problems and got a B+ on the exam. GO TO CLASS AND USE STUDY EDGE!!!!
This is one of the first difficult classes you take within the business school. She makes the tests unclear and very vague. The only reason that I was prepared for any of the exams or quizzes is because I used STUDY EDGE!!! STUDY EDGE is a MUST they saved my life and my GPA!!
There is a clear gap between the information provided by Professor Goslinga and the textbook, not to mention what is presented on the exams. The professor does at best a mediocre job at attempting to explain the concepts in this course, and completely fails at properly communicating and providing the students any real foundation in accounting.
Definition of a "weed out" class, but for a ton of majors here at UF. If you MUST take it at UF, Study Edge will be your saving grace. Watch lectures, use every Study Edge tool possible, and work your tail off by doing practice questions and old exams and you can manage a C and move on. May the force be with you.
This class is and should be a "Weed out" class. It is a good place to begin telling if students are willing to work since the work itself is easy but it is a lot of busy work where details are essential. Nonetheless, the Professor makes it unnecessarily more difficult than it has to be. She herself is an inadequate Professor.
Very tough class; takes time and effort but you can do it. Prof knows what she is doing, but the lectures and reading can be a lot to handle. Whether you have a tutor or Study Edge (I didn't use SE), practice until you're confident. Read the book, print the lecture slides to write on, practice ALL the optional homework, and study long in advance.
Prof. Goslinga is a good professor, in the lecture she explained things clearly. I think this course is not as hard as some students said. If you watching the lecture and try to understand how everything work, it is a really easy class. I got an A just by watching the lecture before exam and doing the practice exams which she give us.
I never read the textbook or used Study Edge and I pulled an A simply by watching her lectures and doing MyAccountingLab. The lectures are extremely dry but to the point. She doesn't waste a minute of classtime. The exams are hard but managable. Everyone knows it's a hard class, just put in the time/effort and you'll be fine for a B.
This class is super difficult and totally a weed out class. They make the exams super hard and I had to start studying well prior to exam time. The only reason I passed this class was because of Study Edge. Study Edge offers chapter review sessions and exam review sessions with tons of practice problems. The practice problems are super helpful.
Currently, I am on track to get an A in the class. Best way to phrase her is as hard, but fair. Most of your grade depends on 3 tests, so just don't get behind on work. Study Edge's weekly videos helped ensure that I fully understood the material, since the practice problems she gave were more surface level and I would recommend it for the course.
I think she is a pretty fair teacher. Her lectures are well done and she usually tells you all the information you need to know. That being said, she is overly fond of trick questions and the practice that you receive online through mylab is pretty ineffective . Using Study Edge practice questions helps as they simulate the test more accurately.
Prof. Goslinga teaches the class well and is specific on what she wants to you to know for the tests. The tough part about this class is being prepared beyond measures about the material on the test so any questions can be answered. I used Study edge as a supplement to this class and have done very well because of it.
Goslinga is a really good teacher but the class is impossible. Definitely use Study Edge if you want to pass. Don't bother watching lecture all you need to do is go to the Study Edge weekly reviews.
Professor Goslinga is a very challenging professor. Her exams are very difficult, cumulative, and make up 90% of the course grade. I strongly recommend getting study edge for this class as they give plenty of practice problems that replicate what you will see on the exams. The textbook homework assignments are not indicative of what exams look like
I started the class watching lectures but I found that what she taught and what she actually asked on the exam were a little bit different. I ended up using Study Edge every week and only watched her lectures when I had nothing else to do. Study Edge gives you lots of practice questions which is pretty much the only way to study.
Professor Goslinga's teaching style wasn't the best. She lectures off of powerpoint which did not help me understand the material. Study Edge definitely broke down the material in a more logical way. The key is to do multiple practice problems to she how different questions can be worded and Study Edge gives you hundreds which helped me do well.
This class is really hard in of itself, so I think that the professor explains the concepts fairly well, and going to office hours for extra help is a good idea. Even though homework isn't graded, it's definitely a must. The exams are really straightforward, without any trick questions. I didn't use Study edge but I heard that it helps.
This class is really hard in of itself, but I think that the professor explains the concepts fairly well, and going to office hours for extra help is a good idea. Even though homework isn't graded, it's definitely a must. The exams are really straightforward, without any trick questions, and the TA's are willing to go over the problems.
Very easy class if you're mathematically oriented. Watched lectures once, reviewed practice exams right before the exam, and got a B in the class. Total of approximately 3-4 hours per week of work for me for that grade.
Class is designed to make you fail, even if you do all of the work and practice that is available to you. Goslinga teaches well and designs her lectures and assignments so you feel like you are doing well, but then the exam is full of curveballs and tiny tricks that can make you fail even if you know everything by heart. Take it somewhere else.
On the bright side, she always curves final grades so not everyone fails. On the downside, if she didn't, everyone would fail.
From the beginning, she makes it clear what is expected of students in the class and definitely makes you work for your grade. The tests are pretty difficult; you can't just wing it. Your grade will depend on how much time and effort you put in to learning and practicing the material.
The class is tricky because of all the different ways that you can be tricked on the exam questions. Do as many practice problems as possible to do well. I recommend using study edge to get extra problems to just keeping hammering home.
The class is a tough entry level business class, but if you do all the work you can at least get a B. She's a good teacher but the class is very test heavy. If you use the Study Edge for it, it makes the class a million times easier. I only did Study Edge and didn't watch lectures and got an A.
Class is tough but doable. I never used study edge (although I hear it's good). I read every chapter (before corresponding lectures). I also watched the lectures and completed the optional homework. Don't fall behind. Watch out for trick questions on exams. This will probably be your hardest class up to this point in time (have fun with FIN3403).
Definitely a tough class, but I felt that Prof Goslinga explained the material well. Expect to practice A LOT. Do as well as you can because it gets harder as you get later in the course...I did ok on the first two exams but the last one was crazy hard and that really lowered my mark. Also, try hard on the quizzes and that will help your grade.
Terrible.
A pretty difficult class, exams are rough, its designed to be difficult so that way their are less students doing finance/accounting. Not impossible but would highly suggest study edge.
Financial accounting is a very hard course, but Professor Goslinga helps make the course more understandable. Her lectures are very detailed and give many examples for problems.
Goslinga, aka as Godzilla in the Busines school, will do everything in her powers to weed you out. Good luck.
I can't even
This is a very VERY difficult course. Everyone complaining about how difficult it is are not trying. An A isnt going to be handed to you, so you have to put in the effort into this class. Get Study Edge because if you dont, you risk the chance of not passing. I failed my 1st exam without SE, but did better than the class average with it.
I stopped watching the lecture videos and just used study edge which saved my life. grade is based off 3 exams and 10 quizzes. Exams are extremely difficult and have a many tricks in each problem. use study edge and study a week and a half before the exam and you could get a B or A with the curve
This is the weed out class for any finance or accounting major. The textbook is not helpful and quite confusing at times. Prof. Goslinga makes her exams as difficult as possible and does not prepare the majority of her students for how tricky the exams are.
People keep saying to do studyedge not watch her lectures, but I personally found her lectures were a great way to initially learn the information and I used SE just to review stuff I'd forgotten by the time the exam came around. She'll make you work for your grade, but if you put in the work, you shouldn't have a problem passing.
Goslinga isn't the greatest lecturer imo. She just reads off of the powerpoint slides. At some point, I stopped watching her lectures and opted instead to read the textbook and take notes, and do Study Edge Chapter and Exam Reviews. Study Edge literally saved my life. I got an A. But worked very hard for it.
Not as hard and scary as ppl says. Her lectures are actually v helpful. She demonstrates problems and later in the sem gives question types that will be on the exam. I found the tb helpful and doing all the SE problems def helped for the exams. The quizzes are just like the HW and completely different from exams. She is very clear n straightfoward.
Biggest tip I have is putting in a ton of effort throughout the semester rather than just in the beginning!! (Which was a huge downfall for me, especially since the exams get harder) I got really lucky with the curve but dont depend on it. Her lectures are boring and I probably couldve done better with reading the text and study edge
This class was by far one of the hardest classes I have taken at UF. If I didn't have study edge I would have easily failed this class. Thankfully Chris Morely at Study Edge was able to outline the specifics and provide hundreds of practice problems to nail down the material. He made the Chapter Reviews interesting.
lectures can be boring but she covers information thoroughly, class isn't as bad as people say if you do hw, read books, and listen to lecture
Tests are laden with tricks. Only the best of the best have any hope of catching most of them. This is definitely one of the most useful business classes I have taken so far tho, material wise, but you'll have to either pay attention well in lectures or get StudyEdge the textbook was difficult to understand IMO.
If you aren't an accounting major that needs that this class be taken at UF, DON'T take it here. The class is absurdly hard, especially for those who only need it for a minor. Get Study Edge it really helps. Terrible professor. The practice problems she posts online are easy and nothing like her exams. The online practice is not written by her..
The class isn't as hard as people make it out to be. I didn't put in that much effort and I still got a B by using Study Edge 1-2 days before each exam. If I had prepared maybe a week beforehand, I probably could've gotten an A. Lectures are unnecessary if you have Study Edge. Just do their practice problems, they're very similar to the real test.
This class is really easy if you put in effort to learn it. Goslinga is a great lecturer & wants you to learn. Don't read textbook. Use StudyEdge but watch lecture. Some exam 2 questions from lecture not covered in SE. Tests are straightforward & similar to practice exams. Anyone who fails this class puts in no effort & doesn't get help when needed
This class isn't as bad as a lot of people say, you just have to put in the effort to learn the material and make sure you do not fall behind. The exams (around 86% of your grade) have lots of trick questions, but if you're well prepared you can avoid getting tricked. Definitely use Study Edge. Quizzes and HW are nothing like the exams questions.
I had an A going into Exam 3, yet I finished with a C due to the fact I had three required exams within Heavener over the course of 24 hours. Goslinga did nothing but tell me to reschedule my ProctorU exam and told me to contact them myself after coming to her with an exam conflict. All she does is record lectures and have a third party grade exams
She is a terrible teacher. Her tests are absolute nightmares. i dropped the course and I'm taking it elsewhere. The class would not have been a bad class, if she didn't feel the need to make the test so tricky and difficult. Accounting is not that bad or hard to understand. It's the teacher that's awful.
This is a terrible and unnecessarily complicated class. Sets you up to fail no matter how much time you spend studying and practicing. The textbook isnt helpful to learn at all and her lectures are mostly just her reading off paragraphs from the textbook, a waste of time. Take it somewhere else, its not a hard class at all, its just the teacher.
Don't do HOMEWORK. Study Edge. Thats about all I can say. Good luck troopers.
Here's the deal: The class isn't easy, but Jill is a great teacher. I got an A and so can you. All you have to do is watch her lectures online and take detailed notes. When an exam comes around, memorize your notes for the selected chapters. Also, take her practice tests because they are exactly like the exam. Don't be scared to take this course!
The difficulty of this class is ridiculously exaggerated. 20% of class got an A. That's not a weedout, plain and simple. College is meant so you actually LEARN stuff, not so that everyone just gets a pat on the back and a meaningless 100.
the lectures are honestly really boring...i zoned out pretty often but that was because i thoroughly read the chapters and did all the homeworks (sometimes multiple times), take the practice exams, study edge is not necessary but my friends had it and they only relied on that and got As as well
It's a hard class. Study throughout the course because the concepts build on each other and the tests only get harder, your first test score will be your highest. The tests are tricky and you have to actually know the concepts. The online quizzes are easy but aren't like her lectures and are based more on the textbook.
I thought her lectures and homework assignments were very helpful. I didn't use Study Edge and got an A in the class. She explains things well and is clear about the concepts and grading.
Financial Accounting is actually really interesting. It is just a difficult course because it is a completely different subject none of us have background in. I would definitely suggest buying a Study Edge Account for this course, do all their practice problems. As well as her Practice Exams are very good representations of her actually exams.
Professor Goslinga's ACG2021 class is definitely a challenge. If you don't set aside time to study this class you won't do well. The exams are hard, but you just have to figure out how to study correctly for them. What helped me with that were the StudyEdge chapter and exam reviews. They lay out what you need to know and provide tons of practice.
Professor Goslinga is an amazing teacher. Yes, the subject can be challenging but the professor explains the material well, making it much easier to comprehend and she provides many study resources for the exams. Would definitely recommend her class!
This is the hardest class I've ever taken. Never worked harder for a D. So disappointed.
ACG2021 is not as bad as people say it is and she is decent, but goes very quickly and can be annoying to listen to. Her exams are made with tricks to prevent high scores because the material is not that hard. Getting study edge and doing every single one of their practice problems before the exam makes it very possible to get an A.
Dropped this class in the fall and took it in spring and got an A. Don't underestimate this class. Study Edge literally saved me and will do that for you. Do every chapter review and all the end of packet questions. Read all the chapter reviews before you go to the exam review session. Spend at least 4-5 days doing SE practice problems and exams
The only reason this class is hard is to force students to change their major because they're too many accounting majors. She purposefully will have tricky questions on her exams so be prepared. Use Study Edge and literally do all the problems 3-4 days before every exam. If you put the work in it'll be fine. Class based on quizzes and 3 exams.
ACG 2021 with Goslinga is not as bad as people might make it out to be, it just takes time to obtain a good grade. You are only graded on 10 quizzes and 3 exams, which gives very little room for error. She tries to word the questions on the exam to trick you, so go over as many practice tests as you can and watch the lectures. This class is doable.
Goslinga is expects a lot from her students- use old exams to study because the Pearson practice questions are not how her tests are. Her tests are meant to trick you and the wording can be very difficult. Final grade relies on 3 exams and a few (10 ish) quizzes; however the quizzes are a very small percentage of your grade.
Honestly this class is fine. The exams aren't that hard if you watch the lectures (she goes over exam-type questions after every chapter) and take notes. I used study edge for the exam reviews but that's it. Goslinga is very organized and straightforward with her lectures, grading, etc. I took this summer A and it was fine.
This class is pretty hard and if want an A or B your going to have to work for it. The lectures are long but useful and I recommend taking notes even if you do use SE. The tests are worth most of your grade and have a good amount of questions that require you to know all the material. Make sure to read the entire question on the tests.
Just get study edge and make sure you understand how all the questions are being solved. Just do a lot of practice problems and you'll do fine.
This class is a TON of work, esp. during Summer A (6 weeks to get through all that) but if you are willing to spend 5-8 hours on it each weekday you can def succeed. Definitely invest in Study Edge, I was hesitant at first but it is for sure the reason I was able to pull through with an A. Really, just be ready to work mega hard & you can succeed!
I took this class Summer A and it was pretty difficult because it's so test heavy and her questions are made to trip you up. She recommends treating it like an 8-5 job over summer A and if you want to get an A or a B you have to treat it like that. Getting study edge and doing as many practice questions as possible was really helpful.
This class is way too dramatized in difficulty. Completing this course during Summer A (6 weeks) is definitely time-consuming, because my days would consist of watching study edge lectures, her long lectures, and doing quizzes on MyLabMastering. This class makes you work for the grade and if you can put your head down and study, it is SO doable.
Prof. Goslinga was a decent lecturer and clearly outlined everything that would be on exams. The 3 exams were extremely tricky/hard and require mastery of specific concepts to do well on. I took the class over summer A and it was super fast paced, but not as overwhelming as I thought it would be. Study Edge is essential to do good in the class.
I love accounting and I loved this class, but it is really hard. If you get too confident you'll do poorly. Do ALL of HER homeworks, practice problems, and comprehensive assignments (not study edge). In my opinion, she is a really great teacher and wants to help you succeed if you try.
I took this class for a minor over summer A and it was one of the hardest classes not because material but the exams are so tricky and one word is thrown in to completely change the problem. I feel like if you can take this class at any other university like a state college so you don't have to have her. This class is much harder than other intros.
Accounting isn't easy, but it's difficulty is more due to how much time it takes than the actual material. If you do like the professor says and do the mastering problems, watch the lectures, and take the practice exams, then you'll do fine. Her lectures are well done and explain concepts very well, put in the work and you'll be fine
This is a very difficult class! My number one piece of advice is to get Study Edge! It saved my life for this class! Goslinga will provide some study material for exams but the Study Edge practice exams are the best thing to use for preparing for an exam! The review videos that Study Edge provides make everything a lot easier to understand too!
Very difficult class, lecture are dense but straightforward but difficult to get through. Definitely seek outside help aside from office hours, never taken a class more difficult than this one.
The class is difficult, but as long as you're breathing and putting in the effort, its extremely manageable. Study edge can be helpful but honestly, I found it to be more confusing at times. I've read the textbook, watched lectures, and done the homeworks/optional assignments with diligence and am getting a good grade in the class!
I am taking it now & have a B+. What you put into the class is what you get out of it. I spend roughly 15-20 hours a week learning. If you can't put the hours into fully understanding you will do bad. Exams are tricky but SE gives you over 300 practice problems each exam. She is a good teacher watch her lectures and do study edge.
Use Study Edge, and do practice exams.
She gives 2 easy practice exams and then gives an extremely difficult exam. She doesnt seem to care if you actually know how to do certain things but more so if you can not get tricked by her wording or rounding requirements on the exam. Overall terrible class and she is very passive aggressive over email and frankly rude. Try to take it elsewhere
I loved professor Goslinga! She went over a ton of examples on the board and explained concepts really well. You dont NEED study edge but I used it for the practice problems they give. Overall if you keep up with the lectures getting an a or a b is not difficult. The 3rd exam is definitely the hardest.
The actual exams are way harder than the practice ones that she provides. And this semester there were 8 free response questions on the exams, which was kind of a slap in the face. Just make sure to do all of the graded assignments and quizzes because although it's not worth much, you'll definitely need those extra points in the end.
Everyone's strategy to doing well in this class is different so don't think that doing just study edge will get you an A, you have to do what works for you. For some it's doing every practice problem, for others its just lectures or study edge. She is a good professor, but your grade lies within knowing her tricks in the exams.
The only class I have ever failed. I hired a tutor who couldn't even help me get above a C in the last two exams. If this weren't a requirement for business students, I'd say avoid it like the plague. Good luck.
The way I got through this class was by watching all of the lectures which actually did a really good job of teaching the material and going over the practice exams. Beware that for the first and last exam that the practice exams are way easier. There are a lot of formulas to remember and the Connect was useless in my eyes but hw was good practice.
I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. Dr. Gosolinga lectures very well and her tests are reasonable. Follow what the textbook is teaching and use her lectures as supplements. You MUST understand everything that's going on in the textbook. Start studying a week in advance, and you'll be ok.
Goslinga was a fantastic professor. She clearly explained every concept, and even had hints to her trick questions. She really screwed us over because she had free response since everything is online. Her third exam was definitely the hardest. Use study edge for extra practice problems, they helped with trick questions. Connect wasn't very helpful.
Watch the lectures or you will fail. She's very understanding despite popular belief. Use StudyEdge. Study, study, and then study again. It's possible to pass, but it's very difficult to get an A. 50/50 chance you may have to retake it. Truly the definition of a weed-out class for Accounting.
This class sucks. I have never had this much trouble in a class, and I worked my butt off just to have to retake anyway. Professor Goslinga doesn't seem to care about anything or anyone, she was not understanding at all when I got Covid halfway through the semester and was super ill. All I can say is you have to use studyedge to stand a chance.
This class is meant to eliminate students from the accounting program so it's purposefully difficult. I did not use study edge but I agree with others, it would be helpful for this class. I found the professor's lectures concise and fairly easy to understand, but not particularly engaging or interesting.
Take note every UF business major has to take Goslinga, and some aren't exactly the brightest bulbs, which is why people here say the class is "hard". ACG2021 is extremely easy, study edge and watching lectures is completely unnecessary. Do every problem in Connect, including the extra optional ones, and the exams are cake.
I would highly recommend getting study edge for this class. The first exam I did not have study edge and def did not do too hot. The next exams I had them and I was able to easily get a B+. Prob could've been higher if I used them for the first exam.
This class is definitely hard, but not impossible. Most people recommend study edge , but I actually did better on the exams when I just watched her lectures and did as many practice problems she provides as possible. I would also highly recommend trying your best to get as high as you can on the first two exams because the third one is the hardest
Dr. Goslinga is a great professor who gives comprehensive, easy-to-follow lectures. The content is hard but if you put in the work and do lots of practice problems the exams are really not that bad. My only complaint is that the homework assignments take hours but are only worth a few points.
I had to take the class twice to pass it. I used all her resources plus study edge both times. Study edge helps more than her lectures in my opinion! Its really hard to balance and takes lots of your time. If there was another professor I would take them instead.
Goslinga is a good professor but she is definitely tough if you do not put in the effort. Read the chapters, watch her lectures, do the connect assignments and the study edge reviews and you will be fine. The content isn't necessarily hard it just takes practice to get good and remember everything.
I took this as part of a minor, and I do NOT have a math brain. Not one bit. I only studied by cramming and BARELY passed with a C. If you dont have an analytical type of brain, please study every week. Please. If I took this again, Id do just that, because its capable to do well if this isnt your forte but you have to put in the work.
Professor Goslinga is not a good teacher. She does not explain things well. I had to see two different tutors to actually understand the material. This class was the worst. I have never done so poorly. Take accounting at a different school because this professor tries to fail you.
Tests are extremely difficult when they don't have to be. I highly recommend getting Study Edge in order to complete all the mock exams and practice problems. The textbook homework that is assigned does not help at all for the exams. Despite this, complete all of them because every point matters.
I had to take this class twice. The SmartBook assignments are time consuming and in my opinion not helpful. Her lectures are split up into multiple videos which I think is helpful, but she basically goes through what the textbook says. Best advice is to get Study Edge and do A LOT of practice problems.
Extremely rude over email and does not care about students actually learning the material. Her lectures are mediocre and the exam questions are way too hard. I almost didn't pass the class even while using study edge religiously and watching lectures.
There were many assignments due in a short period of time but if you put forth the effort, you will see positive results. My final grade was about the same as my exam average so study hard for the exams. Study edge helped for the exams. She provided many resources to succeed on the exams but sometimes that did not even guarantee a good test grade.
Professor Goslinga has made this course as hard as it can possibly be. She requires lengthy assignments that are worth little to nothing for your grade and they barely help for the exams which are over 85% of your final grade. She makes the exams extremely confusing so that even if you understand the concepts it is very easy to get the questions X
80% of class grade is from 3 equal exams. During Summer A, you take an exam every other week. HW is not similar to exams -- just get it done, then read the book. All of my mistakes were because I didn't read the question closely and it cost me dearly -- 70% on E1 & E2 --> 97% E3 when I paid attn. Questions are very similar to practice exams.
This should not be offered as a Summer A or B class. There is far too much content covered. Homeworks are long and painful, the lectures are even longer and the professor does not add anything to the class. She basically regurgitates what's in the textbook but in a long, painful way. Avoid taking this class with her if possible.
I took this class during summer A and I was a little scared because of the reviews; however, it was not as hard as people make it out to be. Just make sure you do all of the homeworks, smart book assignments, and quizzes. I watched her lectures for the first exam, but not the others. I relied on study edge and it was extremely useful.
Unbiased Review: If you're taking this summer A, be ready to put the in the work. HW and connect assignm are long. I recommend watching only her first lectures and then getting Study Edge. Only watch their lectures from then on if u dont want 2 spend 8+ hours/dy. SE explains everything very well and their mock exams and practice problems are great.
Took this class for the first time in summer A (6 weeks long!) and managed to pull an A. However that was bc I used Study Edge instead of her lectures! I tried her lectures but they were so long and didnt fully explain anything. HW doesnt translate to the test at all, so the SE practice was super helpful! The class isnt as hard as everyone says
I hated this class so much it made me change majors. The professor did NOT provide enough info needed to understand the information. Learn every bit of material that she gives you and know it through and though cuz if not you will end up like me. Also don't rely on practice exams given, they are WAYYYYYYY easier than the exams. Good luck friend.
Do not take this class through UF, do it at a public university!! Don't even bother watching her lectures, you will not pass this class without StudyEdge. StudyEdge explains everything perfectly, use all of their practice resources and be ready to put in work if you want to pass. Taking ACG2021 forced me to switch my major and destroyed my GPA.
If you do not put in the work you will FAIL. However, if you put in the work, do the problems at the end of each chapter and do her practice exams you should be fine. I think the reason so many people do poorly in this class is that this is the first class many take in college that requires this amount of work to do well in.
Her lectures and reviews are thorough and worthwhile, but the tests are definitely designed to trick you. To succeed in this class, you have to get a tutor who understands and can explain her tricks. I used automatic tutoring and would recommend it over studyedge.
Overall a very time-demanding class. The lectures are alright for base knowledge but it was the extra tutoring that def helped me get an A. I used Automatic Tutoring and the people make the class super manageable and interesting.
This is my second time taking the class, and it's one of the WORST at UF. The exams are designed to trick you, just why?? The exam averages are so low and she doesn't review the exams or curve, just posts that more than half the students failed (for each exam) and that you can visit her office hours. You can pay for extra materials or you can fail
the most unforgiving class, the majority of your grade is three exams that are designed to trick you. also has a weird grading system with no A- or B- take at another location or with another professor. the questions done in class and the optional homework are nothing like the exams.
Shes a good lecturer just pay attention. All of her exams are made of of mostly trick questions instead of just making sure you understand the material. Decent curve at the end though.
This class is really hard. No way around it. You need to do the weekly homework without CHEGG. Learn the material, DO NOT try and cram right before the exam. Study edge is your friend. I would start studying 10 days prior to the exam and barely managed a B+. Do not waste your time with lectures Goslinga is useless. STUDY EDGE!!!!!
Lectures and readings don't prepare you for the exams. I basically owe my B to studyedge.
Dr. Goslinga is a great lecturer and explains things very clearly. Lectures clear lots of things up. The key to success in this class is reading the textbook, watching the lectures, and doing the practice problems. Only bad thing about her is that she tries to trick you on exams, and sometimes puts in questions shes never really gone over.
Professor Goslinga is a great professor! To do well in this class you need to stay up to date with the weekly homework. Follow her advice and read the textbook before watching her lectures. Make sure to review practice problems as well. Her lectures are great and very concise, you do not need Study Edge if you follow her course outline correctly.
This class was definitely challenging. It is doable with the help of tutoring programs. One that helped me is Automatic Tutoring. I understood the material more and understood the types of questions that were on the exams. I highly recommend Automatic Tutoring.
Goslinga's lectures were clear, her exam reviews were very helpful, and the work she assigns isn't just busy work. The exams were tricky, but if you read the ?'s carefully and check your work you'll get the grade you WORKED for. Actually understanding the "why" behind solving the problem is the most important part of the course.
This class was definitely not easy. Goslinga is an ok professor but I don't think I would've passed without David from study edge. Honestly if you are considering study edge 100% do it. Goslinga doesn't go into crazy detail and her practice exams were often too easy. I found that the stuff from study edge was much more helpful.
I love her and her teaching style. She may get a bad rap because this class is difficult- but she is an amazing teacher. She clearly explains how to succeed in the class and if you put in the time and work and do what she says, you WILL get an A. She is an amazing lecturer and explains things really well. She does amazing exam reviews. Loved her.
I used study edge for this class and did not read the textbook or lectures. If you do study edge you should have no problems with this class
Heavily relied on Study Edge for this class, Study Edge exam reviews are a game changer.
Study Edge is all you need to succeed in this class! Lectures are unnecessary just be sure to stay on pace with the class because it is easy to fall behind.
This class can be done without study edge. Her lectures are great, listen to the material from her, You'll be a beast if you do both tough. This class is super beneficial if you're a finance or accounting major to lay a good foundation for FAR1&2. If you take this class outside of UF you'll struggle like hell in FAR.
Honestly not a horrible professor but her lectures were not helpful and I learned more from the book than her. Her exams are insane and the questions on them are meant to confuse you, not really test your knowledge. Content is hard but manageable.
IDK if she was bad or the class is that hard. its definitely something you HAVE to study for but if you study and pay attention to the grading scale you can pass.
I did not think this class was bad at all. Just be ready to put in the time to get a good grade. The exams were kind of confusing, but if you understand the material, you should be able to spot the tricks. Optional assignments were very helpful with understanding concepts. Do practice exams!!
This class is not impossible, but you have to put the work and try to understand the content instead of memorize it. I would highly suggest reading the textbook before lectures and doing the optional extra practice in it. The practice exams she provides will not prepare you for the actual exam, so I suggest doing the study edge practice exams.
Grind study edge, I didn't on the first exam and it screwed my grade. You actually have to study for exams.
Good professor for ACG2021. People just don't read or attend lectures and then presume to blame her!
Goslinga is cool, I enjoyed the course and I thought she was a good professor, I just thought this class was SUPER hard and I had to work just to get a B, for people taking this course in the future: take the first two exams seriously.
Professor was great. Class, not so good. Passing is feasible but it will require you to sacrifice your mental and physical health. Taken in summer A with other courses leaves little time for yourself. Choose wisely.
Honestly, I don't understand why she has so many bad reviews. I found professor Goslinga to be enjoyable and found her lectures both entertaining and interesting. The class is very homework intensive and some topics may be somewhat hard to remember, but I didn't necessarily find the class difficult.Practice exams are similar to the actual exam.
knows what she is teaching but only her. This is a class to learn. It was not open book and I did not have the formulas available. This class is ridiculous. Exams are worth 75 % so if you dont get a grade grade you will not pass. I dont understand this concept. No where in the real world would I have the questions that came up in her exams.
Overall, the class was fairly difficult. Her lectures are very important to attend and putting in a lot of effort makes the class very doable. I found it very helpful to go to lecture and do private tutoring with Automatic Tutoring. The tutor there helps a lot with understanding the information and will answer any questions you have.
This is a difficult course, but if you use Automatic Tutoring you'll be fine. For the first two exams, I spent hours doing all the optional assignments, only to get a C on both. But for the last exam, I relied completely on Automatic Tutoring, and got a 100. The tutor's practice exams prepare you for her exams, and were a total game changer.
If your paying $600+ for a course, you'd expect to be able to pass with the resources it provides. Majority of students who excelled had to use private tutoring. After each chapter homework, lectures watched, practice exams taken, plus optional assignments, you MIGHT be able to get a C on the real exam that outweighs all assignments. Pathetic.
The class is very doable. The material isn't anything outlandishly difficult. The lectures, while long, are very easy to understand and the material is explained well. Doing the smart book assignments right after the lectures helps a lot in remembering. The practice exams are just like the real exam, and all material needed is covered in lecture.
Professor Goslinga's lectures are essential to be successful in this class. I used study edge for Exam Reviews but I mainly used Automatic Tutoring Mock Exams and Practice Questions to prepare for the exams. The mock exams from Automatic Tutoring are most accurate to what you will see on Professor Goslinga's exams and prepare you very well.
Older students told me the class was hard so I went in expecting this. If you want to succeed do all the study edge packets as they come out and pay attention to the concepts in the homeworks. Also get a 4/4 on every quiz, don't be the kid that misses 2 questions and misses an A in the class by 1 point. An A without lectures is doable but they help
Just isn't chill.
Dont even bother going to lectures, Study Edge explains the material way better and gives practice problems that prepare you for the exam way better than Goslinga
I took financial accounting last spring as a required class for my major. I felt that she did a good job explaining the material when I watched her lectures, however the tests were always much harder than any examples she gave in class. After the first test, I started using study edge for this class and started doing much better on the exams.
This class was awful. One smartbook, HW, and quiz a week and 3 total proctored exams (no extra credit). Assignments were fine but exams were overly difficult. Study edge didn't even help and neither did the professor. Doesn't care about her students or if they are succeeding in the class. Save yourself and take it somewhere else (if possible).
If you can avoid this class, do it! Prof is awful at teaching yet spends hours upon hours lecturing. Her lectures feel like she's reviewing concepts with expert accountant colleagues rather than explaining concepts and thought processes to students.
It is very doable to get a B or B+ in this class. But getting an A is difficult and takes a certain level of skill as the class is hard. Def study hard.
Definitely a challenging class but it you put in the work, you'll be able to succeed. I did all of Goslinga's practice problems & Study Edge mock exams and felt very prepared for the exams. I though the class wasn't nearly as hard as everyone says it is.
I am an accounting major and was really nervous about this class based on word of mouth. However, she is a great lecturer and with proper effort getting an A or B in her class is definitely doable. I recommend getting study edge, as their practice exams were much more accurate, however her lectures are very helpful as well.
The class was very hard, but I honestly felt that Jill's lectures really helped with understanding the material and preparing me for exams. Thoroughly watching lectures and doing HW will 90% of the time prepare you. She can be tricky with exam questions, and there always seems to be one exam that's unfair. Still, she's a good prof for this class.
I did absolutely everything to do well in this class, I watched every study edge video, every practice question provided for exams, and went all the Professor's lectures. Other assignments are not comparative to the exams and are very surface level. All of the practice exams she has posted are outdated and easier than the real thing.
Overall not the hardest subject ever. Her teaching style is straight to the point so having a hard time keeping up the lectures may be difficult. The weekly assignments helped me comprehend the material more affectively than the way she teached it. Exam questions are very lengthy and you may run out of time (like i did).
Prof. Goslinga has a typical weed out class, and I made the mistake of not taking it seriously enough at first and had to crawl back in the second half of the semester. If you use study edge to its full extent you should be fine.
Her lectures are screenshots of the book; I would rather just read the book. This class is time-consuming. I recommend being ready for 20+hrs a week studying for the exams online. The exams are harder than the practice exams.
The difficulty of this class is highly over exaggerated. For the first exam, I relied solely on her lectures. For the second and third exam, I only did study edge and didn't watch a single of her lectures. I did very well on all three tests. If you put in work and effort, you can succeed. The grounds to get the grade desired are clear from day 1.
This course was not as hard as it was made out to be. In order to be very successful in this class, actually watching Professor Goslinga's lectures, doing the homework, and then using StudyEdge is the best way. I felt that once I had gotten to StudyEdge, I had a good understanding of the material, and it just patched up any short comings.
Very rude; take her courses with Study Edge and a light semester if you want to pass with a B. Exam questions will be very tricky and long. Homework does not prepare for those very well.
Goslinga teaches well, but it is difficult. You need study edge for reviews but it is doable without it. Overall you need to put lots of time into the class and you will do well.
She only sits there and reads from the slides. If you just read the slides you would get the same grade as if you watch the lectures. It appears she has no actual accounting experience but merely was educated on the subject and went straight to teaching the class. There is no material beyond the notes brought up in lectures.
Goslinga is a great introduction to Accounting and while her lectures are not always the easiest to understand, they are a great supplement to have alongside Study Edge. Her exams are very fair and reflective of the course material learned
I loved how the class was structured and the material was presented in a well-organized and systematic manner. I really liked the grading system as well, she graded based on the total amount of points so it removed any confusion regarding grade weightage. Lectures are a bit slow though, I could understand her perfectly at x2 speed :)
Please do not take this professor and class for fun. I am a good student and this was a very difficult class. Prof. Goslinga is very hard to reach out to outside of class, so make sure to attend her office hours because that is the only time she will respond to you.
2XXX courses in UF are generally considered as introductory courses, but this is not an introductory course. I am not an accounting major and just decided to try this course out. It was a huge mistake. It requires the commitment that you would normally put into a 4XXX course. I sincerely hope that no one will make the same mistake that I did.
GET THE STUDY EDGE. Don't be stingy, and get it. I am a relatively good student but this class was the bane of my existence and I have to retake it :( I cannot emphasize how important it is to study. Do NOT BS yourself with thinking you "understood" the lecture, truly learn it. With the HWs and study edge, I think it should be manageable...
You will spend an absurd amount of time for absolutely no points on homework. You will study and actively do practice problems/tests and think you understand the material and then get a 49 on exam 3. It will not matter how much you actually know. Every exam is designed to trick you and I will now have to retake the class at another school.
The tests are ridiculous and the hw is worth almost nothing considering how long it takes. I got StudyEdge after the first test and still struggled in the class. Even if you understand the material, every single test question is a trick question that requires you to know a very niche piece of information. I wish I got StudyEdge sooner.
GET STUDYEDGE! I did astronomically better on exams after getting StudyEdge. Goslinga's practice exams are years old while the StudyEdge exams better reflect the difficulty of the exams. Her lectures are decent and HW is weighted way too low for how long it takes.
This class is easier than all the reviews make it seem. If you try and make an effort, this class is very introductory. The practice exams are so similar to the actual test and people who say they aren't obviously didn't do them. I didn't have study edge and I got an A in this class by simply reading the textbook before and watching her lectures.
Lectures and office hours are a waste of time. HW takes hours, gives only a few points, and barely helps with exams. Only offers two practice exams which seems like they predate the founding of UF itself. Could have easily gotten an A if I used study edge for the first two exams but tried relying on her stuff and almost had to drop the course.
I didn't watch any lectures. Just did study Edge lessons/reviews, online h/w, and quizzes. I felt the exams got progressively harder. I got 73%, 65%, 69% on exams, and with the assignments and quizzes, and slight curve, I ended up with a C. I don't think this is overly hard, just A LOT of info and work to do. Questions on exams like to trick you.
I did private tutoring with Mikey at automatic tutoring and got an A on every single exam. I ended up getting a 97 on the final exam. He is the best and made this class so much easier for me to understand. This class is definitely doable as long as you study and use automatic tutoring!
I never watched the lectures, I used studyedge and the connect practice assignments. This class is very very hard and takes a lot of effort, but is doable and I learned a lot from it. If you start studying a week before each exam and do every practice exam, use everything from studyedge, and do all the extra connect practice, a B is manageable.
Not accommodating, and overcomplicates the material
Professor Goslinga is honestly the worst professor I have ever had to learn from. The amount of trick questions and horrible wording she has on her exams is enough to make anyone want to pull their hair out. The homework takes hours and barely impacts our grade. I paid for StudyEdge because her lectures don't elaborate any concepts.
Summer ACG2021: traumatizing - an UNDERSTATEMENT. Biggest thing the class taught me wasn't fundamental accounting, but hard work DOESN'T pay off in her class. Studied 6 hours daily, watched all lectures & previewed with the book, did all practice exams 3-5x: FAILING grade. I bet the continuous income from failing students tastes pretty scrumptious.
I retook this class and the only reason I got an A this time is because of StudyEdge. Pay those $50 because they're worth it and way less painful than having to pay $850 for dropping the class later. She just restates what's in the textbook and quickly goes over practice problems. If you have studyedge and put in the effort to study, you're good.
Put in the time & effort for this class: read the textbook &take notes, do the homework &optional practice, solve the end of chapter questions YOURSELF, &watch the lectures! She puts hints in her lectures for the exam. Please read ALL the details on the exams. I know this seems like a lot but this is how I succeeded without studyedge/tutoring
This class was rly not as bad as ppl make it seem. I took it Summer A while taking calc 3 and a full-time internship. You need to focus on the practice exams. I didn't have study edge, so skimming the book, watching the lectures, then going back and actually reading the book worked best. An A is possible! Read the questions carefully on the exam!
I just failed my first exam. Was it my fault? Maybe. Am I having an internal conflict with my life based off of this grade? Yes. Does listening to an Academic Failure playlist on Spotify hit hard in this class? Yes. Vienna by Billy Joel be hitting a little too hard right now. Never failed anything until now.
The professor was not very helpful when reviewing questions and tests. You cannot see the correct answers for anything, even homework, so it is hard to know what to fix. Test concepts seem to be different than those discussed in class.
Hard for no reason. I understand why people go to a different college to take this course; she has no ability to teach, reads off slides that are a summary of her textbook, and her exams are stupidly hard for no apparent reason. LOTS of trick questions on exams and is surprised when people do badly in the class when exams are 90% of your grade.
GET STUDY EDGE!!! Started out just supplementing lectures with SE but completely stopped watching lectures after exam 1 and did very well. Homework is pretty simple. You have to put in a bit of work but not impossible to get an A if you get study edge.
Honestly, this class is not as hard as people say it is. I did watch every lecture and I will say that she is not very good at teaching students who have no accounting experience. Lectures are not the most important part. Study edge taught me the most and doing extra smart book problems and practice exams is all you need to be successful.
This class is not as hard as people say. I got an A without Studyedge by first reading textbook, then lectures, doing the homework, and working through practice problems/practice tests multiple times. Textbook is better than lecture to learn the material. Exams were just like the practice exams. Do work as you go and you'll be fine.
This class is definitely the hardest class I've taken so far. I used all the class materials, lectures & practice tests for the first two exams and did extremely well! The material gets much more difficult for the final, so I did private tutoring with Automatic Tutoring to help master the material. Overall she is a great teacher!
The worst professor I ever had in my life. She will DESTROY your grades.
It's awfully disappointing that, after spending 30 hours slamming lectures, the textbook practices and practice exams, and thinking I'd succeed on the exam bc of these resources, I came out of the exams feeling lost and completely unprepared. Why must I drop $50 every month to obtain Study Edge because they have BETTER practices/lectures? Insane.
Her lectures were ok, but she didn't fully explained the concepts. The exams are everything, and be prepared for tricky/ difficult questions you haven't seen before. I found study edge's extremely helpful as there questions were a similar level of difficulty to exam questions. Studied 2-3 hours for 5 days before the exam and always got an A.
She teaches accounting like a robot. Buy Study Edge and avoid her lectures as much as you can. Her voice is super nasally and she has a verbal crutch where she says "kay" literally any time she pauses but usually doesn't even pronounce the "k" sound. just "ayyy"
Worst experience I've ever had with a professor, she did not treat me well, gave me false expectations about my grading, and made lectures boring, without engagement, and extremely difficult. Also, she was not willing at all to help students.
The tests are everything, beware that she is not a strong lecturer. If the subject material does not come naturally to you be prepared to put a lot of effort outside of class. Simply put, do not underestimate this class.
Her exams felt fair in terms of content. My recommendation is to watch the in class problems!! She tends to pull a lot of the problems that were worked in class on the exam. Also, do the 250 extra questions she gives on the homework website because she pulls questions there too. This class if all about repetition, so do as many problems as you can!
I failed this class last semester because I did not watch any lectures and just did studyedge. Watching her lectures are tough because of her voice however she teaches everything you need to know on the exam. I used studyedge for practice problems this semester and it was great practice. Don't be worried. Read textbook, watch lecture, do problems.
Just don't take her.
My biggest recommendation would be to read the textbook. Everything I learned for this class came from the textbook or study edge videos. I also strongly recommend taking every practice test you have access to. Those were a huge help introducing the problem types that were on the exams. Overall it's really not that bad if you actually try.
She is very detailed in her lectures and there are many ways to loose points if you do not thoroughly read the questions which can be confusing as there are a lot of unnecessary details.
Make sure to study for exams. Passed with a B without using StudyEdge so it's doable. Just keep up with lectures and homework and review a lot for exams. She likes to trick questions on exams that will make you lose lots of points, so be careful when testing.
Exams are extremely hard. If you aren't a finance major, take this class at Daytona. It's not worth tanking your GPA.
Don't recommend this class during the summer, especially with other classes. You'll get burned out so quick. There's a lot of topics to cover. The homework is long for each question and you're likely to spend hours + the lectures. I started using Study Edge to save me some time. Spent hours studying for first exam and got 54/120 -_-
She teaches in a very straightforward manner, but her exam questions are purposely meant to be very technical despite the overall simplicity of the content.
For STEM students, this class is not as tough as others say it is. I took it in the summer with a full time internship and got a B (w/ 0 accounting experience) bc I barely had time to study for 2 exams, which were tricky, as if she wants to confuse us, which seems strange since the content is not that hard and this is an introductory class
Loved the professor, super nice and always willing to answer questions but the course material is just difficult IMO. You will be alright if you do lots of practice questions but if you don't pass the first exam, its pretty much over. No extra credit, but a curve of 2-10 points out of 440 points so not a lot.
This class gets a bad rap because the material is not super easy, but if you read the textbook and do past exams, you will do well in this class. I had StudyEdge and didn't even use it because the practice exams are enough to study. Professor Goslinga is very helpful and explains topics well in lectures, exams can have some trick questions though.
Dr. Goslinga had decent lectures. I mainly used Study Edge throughout the course since they broke down concepts and provided a lot of practice. I liked how Study Edge provided harder practice exams to help you prepare for exams. Exams were fair and representative of practice exams. Conceptually, the course was not difficult.
The overall content of the course isn't very difficult. She is a genuinely nice person but horrible as a professor. 80% of the grade comes from 3 exams and there's no extra credit. Study edge is worth the money if you have to take ACG2021 at UF. If you can, take it at Daytona State for an easy A.
Would not take her class again
The homework and quizzes are easy. Study with the mocks she gives!! & check her lectures for reviews. Watch her prerecorded lectures, don't bother with study edge unless you're really struggling. Optional final to replace a bad exam grade (but if you can't get an A on a regular exam, you prob won't get an A on the final). Loved her class tbh!
The class content isn't too difficult, but Professor Goslinga's exams can be tricky. Studying the textbook and past practice tests, along with using UnstuckStudy AI, helps a lot. It's a manageable course if you put in the work.
She has no clue how to teach. The course is essentially self-taught, which is unfortunate as it is already a very difficult course to begin with. Exams are 80% of the final grade, which is an absurd weight, and there is no curve or extra credit.
Honestly she gets really bad reviews because she teaches a difficult course. I didn't have study edge and I was perfectly fine. I recommend doing all the optional hw before the exam to better understand the concepts. The exam questions are trying to trick you which is annoying.
Professor Goslinga has 3 exams which made up almost the entirety of your grade. There are assignments and small quizzes but they hold little value and dont help much. The test prep does not help because the content of the exams are always 10x harder. I recommend having prior knowledge before you take this class, because the content is DIFFICULT
Course is hard, professor is fine. Get StudyEdge, David explains concepts very well.
Light work
Overall, the class is doable you just have to study on your own. I gave up watching the lectures cause I realized they weren't going to help. Just get Study Edge and actually lock in for exam 1/2 because you don't want to be like me and almost fail just cause you chose not to study. There are 3 exams with and optional to replace lowest grade.
I hated this class with a passion. The lectures are straight up confusing and not good. Your tests determine your grade for this class. Save yourself the trouble and take it at a community college over the summer. Can't say I wasn't warned, just don't make my mistake.
Not satisfied with my experience in her her class.
This class is definitely not easy and lots of time should be dedicated to preparing for exams. Ms. Goslinga was a good professor that set clear expectations for what would be on the exams and prepared you for them. I used study edge alongside her lectures as a supplemental, but her teaching is enough to succeed in this class if you put in the time.
I took this class for fun as a chem major. Wasn't difficult at all just stay on top of lectures and do the homework and quizzes. Didn't use study edge or do the optional homework and ended with an A without having to take the final. Goslinga is nice enough for teaching a huge class
i think i need to check myself into therapy after taking this class.
Most helpful resources are the exam review lectures. Other lectures can largely be replaced with notes on the textbook. Practice exams are a pretty good indicator of how you will do on the real exam. Work along with the exam review lecture, take notes afterward/practice as necessary. Class is doable if you don't leave studying to the last minute.
ACG2021 is a typical business weed-out class. I found it difficult mostly due to trick questions on the exams. However, Professor Goslinga is very kind and approachable! Definitely go to office hours and use resources like Study Edge to help with the class. It is a lot of work but still doable fall/spring especially with the optional final offered.
This was a very difficult class, especially if you have no accounting background. I didn't gain much from her lectures so I switched to Study Edge. I took liberal notes on the textbook and really drilled in the practice questions she provides in addition to McGraw Hill. Doable if you put in 10+ hrs a week. Don't let the 1st exam catch you off guard
She gives you everything you need to do well. Read the textbook - it helps. Study edge is helpful but not needed to pass. Makes things easier. She does try to trick you but it's all fair - just read the question. Had no accounting background and did well. Just make an effort and you'll be fine.
Goslinga is a solid professor but her lectures are pretty bland. I did not get Studyedge for this course and was able to do fine through just drilling the practice exams. I do not think this class is as hard as people make it out to be
You know a class is bad when the best advice I got for it was to ignore the teachers lectures and just use study edge
This class can be difficult for some people but if you put a little work in it's not bad. It is a well-structured and organized course, she is a very knowledgeable professor, and there are no surprises on the exams. I watched the pre-recorded videos, practiced with the homework, and reviewed with the exam review lectures and I was totally fine.
I used Study Edge, watched lectures, studied hard, and did the homework, but I still got a C- on the 1st exam and failed the 2nd. Each question on her exams could test hundreds of accounting concepts and require many steps to solve. I ended up dropping the class. Most business majors I talk to admit they cheat on her exams, even with Honorlock.
Did everything possible, from lectures to Study Edge to practice exams. Studied all of Spring Break and blew it, exams were way too hard, even my accountant father said so. Most people just cheat anyway. Asked for help at her office hours she snickered and told me to “make an educated guess” off my grades whether to drop or not. So demoralizing.
The difficulty of this class is WAY overblown. If you are struggling to even pass the class, that's on you not her. She provides ton of extra practice for each exam in addition to the practice exams, and her lectures are clear and helpful. Also, there is an optional final that replaces the lowest exam score in case something goes wrong.
Nice professor, but her exams were extremely hard. I studied for weeks prior to exams and the highest I ever managed to get was a C. I ended with a C in the course and was forced to switch out of being a finance major.
My dad died the first week of school, and Professor Goslinga made my life a million times harder. Kids often lie about this, which can make professors skeptical. However, I sat in front of her two weeks after my dad passed in tears. She stared at me blankly and asked why I hadn't started the lectures yet. She does not care about her students.
Ended up failing the class so I could retake it next semester. Tests are incredibly difficult and doing all of the book practice and practice exams still left me with a 60% avg on tests. Most kids cheat or use study edge and if you don't then you need to put in 10+ hours a week to just stay on pace. Good professor just horrible class/test setup.
Not a terrible prof and the concepts arent necessarily hard, its just a lot of content. 3 exams and optional final. Homework every chapter, took 1-3 hours. If you put in the time and study you will do fine. I never watched any lectures, just relied on the textbook and connect assignments.
The content can be difficult and there is a lot of information to know for the exams, but it's not bad if you put the work in. I watched her lectures, did the additional practice, and used study edge and got an A. Professor Goslinga is a great professor and does a lot of review for each exam. Don't let people scare you about this class.
She is a good lecturer, and the course is organized well. The tests try to trick you, but she warns you to look out for tricks on the test. This class is not nearly as difficult as it is made out to be.
You know that one scene from Mean Girls where Regina George writes in the Burn Book, that is how I feel about her and this class
This class was not as bad as it was told to me by many other students. If you do the work, it's easily doable. Read the textbook, watch the pre-lecture videos, and watch the lectures. Review the practice problems she does at the end of class, there are very similar questions if not the same just different numbers on the exams.
Very manageable class, most people say it's hard because they don't put in the work. She is a good lecturer, and goes through practice problems at the end of every lecture that are similar to exams. Watch the pre-lecture videos and the lectures and do the work. Also, she is very nice in office hours if you have questions.
Goslinga is a knowledgeable teacher and teaches topics thoroughly. There is no need for Study Edge since there is so much practice between the book questions, the in-class problems, and the practice exams. One can easily spend the recommended 10-14 hours a week studying with those resources alone.
The class is difficult but very manageable if you put in the work. The professor provides a lot of optional practice problems that I recommend doing in addition to the homework/quizzes. With some variation, each chapter probably took around 3 hours for the lectures and textbook, 2ish for the homework and quiz, and 3 hours for the optional practice.
Very frustrating to learn how many people cheated in this class. Makes me feel better about not getting an A, though. Her lectures are thorough and she gives you the types of questions you will see on exams. But the class is way too exam heavy. I have 95% on homework and quizzes and 3 B's on exams. I have a low B in this class. So frustrating.
Honestly probably don't need study edge unless you want more practice problems. I don't think you need to read the textbook as long as you really pay attention to the lectures and do the homework on your own, it's good practice.
I started only using study edge lectures halfway into the course but I still think she is a decent teacher. People overrate the difficulty of this class in my opinion. Put the time into actually understanding the material, and you should be fine.
Exams were rough and unapologetic. As a lecturer she's covers the information well but each lecture is agony to listen to as she's just plain boring. Not a professor you are excited to go to class and learn from.
She's good. Exams are a bit tough, but the optional final at the end of the semester is easier than all of the other exams and really boosts grades. Make sure to get all the Connect points and do all of the optional work on Connect. She pulls some exam questions right from those.
You can use study edge, textbook, pre-recorded lecture, and/or live lecture. If you put in the effort and use the resources depending on how you learn best, an A is doable. She goes through the content quite quickly, so use the TAs or older students if you have questions. VERY exam-heavy, definitely do practice problems and practice exams to study.
Everything you've heard about this class is true or honestly worse. Getting a B is doable, an A is possible but hard. YOU NEED STUDY EDGE. The exams are weighted heavily, which makes it so hard to get a good grade. The exams are tricky & unnecessarily hard. If there's a small detail somewhere… it'll probably be tested. Her voice is annoying af too.
very difficult course, I did well on homework, but it did not equate to good grades on exams, no matter how much you study it comes down to whether the information comes to you or not
Tests are extremely difficult. Get study edge and do practice problems and try to get all homework and quiz points. Failed this class by .5 for a B and was extremely frustrating.
Professor Goslinga is nice and helpful during office hours. The practice problems/notes from lectures are great. Review the practice exams multiple times/rewrite ur notes and you'll be fine. This class is not that difficult, ppl exaggerate for no reason. Just make sure u keep up w the work and know you'll need to study. Study edge is not needed.
Exams are tough but doable. Pay attention to her lectures and the practice problems and make sure you got those down. I didn't use study edge and I was more than prepared for exams. I would highly recommend attending office hours. I attended towards the end of the semester, and wish I'd attended earlier. She's super approachable and helpful.
The professor is very fair and clear in her grading criteria. She does not have minus grades, and she has an optional final exam to replace the lowest grade. Exams are 30 questions online, so the best advice is to do ALL practice exams and ALL connect. Study Edge is super super helpful. GO TO OFFICE HOURS AND LECTURES!
She knows what she's talking about. The class isn't that difficult if you take the time to learn the material properly. Very test heavy.
Pay attention to every detail and make sure to keep up with the class. It isn't an easy class but she's a very fair professor, and is willing to explain things to you if you're confused. Watch all her pre-lectures and go to lecture in person.
Professor Goslinga is just fine, however, this course is intense. I took it as a 6-week course over Summer A. There is so much material and so many lectures to watch. Especially with it being over a period of six weeks, I had absolutely zero free time. Don't take it during the summer unless you want to lock yourself in your room 4 days a week.
She knows this material very well, and I always appreciate when a professor gives a lot of review time and practice problems. Your performance in this class will be reflective of the effort you put in, but Professor Goslinga makes sure you have what you need. I really enjoyed this class.
Professor Goslinga is an amazing professor! You MUST follow her schedule in the syllabus or you will not have time to study before exams. She explains things very clearly and is open to questions. She explained a difficult concept to me three times when I did not understand it. Follow the schedule, go to office hours, and you will succeed!
Goslinga is a great instructor. She goes through every single concept that is covered in the exam and also goes through homework questions with you, if needed. The exams were difficult, but you have plenty of time to complete them (her motto is do the test twice, so she gives you time enough to do that).
exams were hard
Professor Goslinga is an amazing professor teaching a difficult class. Attend the lectures in person and don't be afraid to ask questions. Then you will do great! There was a concept I was seriously struggling to understand and I asked her questions about it after class and she patiently explained it three different ways till I understood it!
This class is extremely hard. There are resources available to assist, but it doesn't help that everything is online. Don't take unless you have to. The tutor for this class' study edge sucks btw don't waste your money.
Unpopular opinion: this class wasn't terrible. She is a good teacher, but it's obvious that she knows this class is a weed out course and therefore makes it seem all tough. The content isn't the craziest, but it takes some adjusting (haha) to get used to it. Get Study Edge just to have the extra practice exams, it helped me.
Goslinga is an amazing professor. The class itself is not hard just follow her calendar and stay on top of the work. I had Study Edge for the first exam but canceled it for the second. The Study Edge tutor sucks for this course. Just rambles, curses, and doesn't want to be there. Just use Goslinga's extra practice. Would take her again.
Ugh FML :((
Goslinga as a professor was okay, although her videos on Mediasite did little to nothing to help students. McGraw Hill is required for this class and requires hours upon hours of poring over to understand the material. The exams are difficult, studied 7+ hours a day for a B. Prepare to dedicate >50% of your study time to this course.
She expects you to watch an average of two hours of pre recorded lecture videos before every lecture in addition to the two hour lectures she records on Tuesdays and Thursdays! Make sure you have plenty of hours a week to dedicate to this particular class. In my opinion she also overcomplicates most of the lecture material.
Honestly, this class isn't that bad considering how everyone talks about it. Just watch her pre-recorded videos and the study edge, and you should be fine. Professor Goslinga is actually a pretty good professor and seemingly a really fair person.
Dr. Goslinga gets such a bad rap purely because her class is difficult. You have to put in a lot of time and effort into this class in order to be successful, but it is doable. I highly recommend talking to Dr. Goslinga because she is amazing and very helpful. Also, do Study Edge.
Prof Goslinga explains the material pretty well and sets clear expectations, but can sometimes rush through the material, leaving some students confused. Make sure to stay on top of hw, lecture videos, and practice tests to make sure you're prepared for the tests. As long as you do that, you will not need study edge. DO NOT PROCRASINATE.
