Jill is fantastic. She made what used to seem like a foreign language to me sound like English!
She made math so confusing to me, i had no idea what she was talking about in class. I would try to take notes and i just stopped because I would have to go home and just read the book because she wouldnt always teach all we needed to know :(
Very clear. Always available for help during or after class. Tests fairly easy. Few pop quizzes. A lot of homework, but it's fast and it's an easy 15 points for every chapter.
She is good at explaining math problems in different ways to help students understand. She is very patient too.
She's very nice and patient, not afraid to admit mistakes she makes. This class is all on tests, no homework etc. so that makes it dificult. She also doesnt understand why you dont understand the math. She's ok overall
I love this teacher, she explains things so well. And is incredibly helpful.
She is very helpful and approachable, not to mention understanding. Lessons are always very consistent as far as which order she does things in. A great choice for a math professor.
very nice, but timid, because she is canadian. cute in a weird way and very understanding.
She's shy but very caring and interested. Very clear, patient, and helpful. Not in complete control of class, esp. this one annoying guy, but other than that fine. I'm auditing her class because of wasting time in Dr. Siegel's useless Math D class. Now I'm learning what I need to know to move on.
good at what she does

Jill is a superlative teacher. Very systematic; great clarity. She makes math easy! She's totally organized, focussed, and fair. I highly recommend her. I was math-phobic, but ended up having fun with math!
VERY GOOD TEACHER SHE IS VERY CLEAR AND NICE TO HER STUDENTS.
great teacher. very helpful. she explains everything very clearly. if u need help she will help you. i recommend her to anyone. very good teacher...
Excellent Teacher! Very Very organized and systematic. Really wants her students to succeed and does what she can to see that happens. She is great at what she does. I've always hated math, but this is the class I always look forward to.
Jill is the best teacher ever!! She will get out of her way to help you. Her on line algebra class is awesome. She reminds everyone of the due dates, encourages, and makes sure you're doing ok. There is just no words do describe her. She should get a raise in her pay. THANKS JILL!!
I took this class online. Ms. Rafael was always quick to respond to any e-mails. If you are self disciplined you will not have any problems.
Jill style of teaching would blend with any type of student. Her explanations are easy to follow and she is always available to help. Math has always been a struggle for me but she made it bareable.
BEST TEACHER!!!! TAKE HER, ENJOY IT, lots of homework, but it teaches you a lot, GOOD LUCK WITH AN EASY GRADE< TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WOULD ENJOY HER TEACHING STYLE! BEST MATH teachers I ever had so far!!!
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!!!! I never learned so much in math. I'm trying to talk her into teaching my next class. She is there for you, and will explain it until you get it. She wants you to pass. Take her class I would take her agin 100 times. Have fun
REALLY Awesome teacher! I've taken her 2 semester in a row and even taking her right now. . .she has like the best personality and She helps you like with everything, even the test itself. . .TAKE HER!
ILOVE THIS JILL!!! She is very clear in explaning everything! As long as you pay attention a liitle and do your homework you will get an a. I want everyone to enroll in this class especially if you don't like math caus you'll love it after taking jills classes. She teaches math a d and math 18 in the fall. Sign up up her class b4 it's full!!!!!!!!!
EASY A
I took this class spring 08 online. This is a tough class because its online, but if you are self disciplined you can do it. I took 6 classes including this one and got a B. Jill is great at communicating! A word of advice-do all hw, take quizes both times and know all the material going in to the tests. Its not easy, but it can be done!
Best techer ever! Made class time fun and made math easy. Even if you hate math, you'll understand it with Jill. Easy A!!!
VERY CLEAR IN HER TEACHINGS. EXTREMELY HELPFULL.ALWAYS MAKES SURE THE WHOLE CLASS UNDERSTANDS BEFORE MOVING AHEAD. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!VERY PRETTY AS WELL!
Good Teacher Very Knowledgeable. Take Her She explains math well.
I took online class. Everything is done on coursecompass.com but it offers lots of ways to learn the material. Midterm and Final are taken on campass. Must memorize all the equations for those.
I loved Jill as a math teacher. She must cover mucho information, but she never moves too fast. She makes sure everyone understands before moving on. She is very approachable. She explains problems simply enough that even I could understand. I would highly recommend that you take her.
She is the best math teacher I've ever had. Really understanding and doesn't hold anything against you whether you didn't complete the homework or ask stupid questions. Such a great teacher.
Took this online-she is great helpful, nice and the class is very well organized. However there is an insane amount of homework-and I'm used to lots of work. Average about 200-250+ problems weekly some have 5-6 parts to each problem. (you do the math!) Not recommended for parents, anyone who works fulltime or is taking another labor intense class.
If you are not a math/business/elem ed. teacher, take this class. Super easy because it is not straight math and is applied to the real world. She teaches it like you are in third grade the first two weeks, but then it gets really interesting. The class is great because you do projects which use your own skills (like drawing, poetry, etc.)
Surprisingly pretty for a math teacher, she's really good at keeping a pace that's easy to follow. I hate math, I'm terrible at it and it's boring. But I'm getting a B+ in her class and I haven't fallen asleep once! :D I would recommend this class to anyone (plus it's a transferrable course ;D)

As a hater of math, I actually liked her class. It wasn't all equations and stuff, and it seemed really easy to me even though math is my worst subject. Jill is a sweet lady and she's always willing to help. She also gets back to you fast if you email her. I found the tests to be a little difficult but other than that it was a great class!
First math class I didn't fail :) also she has a great collection of cute skirts! Such a sharp dresser ;)
Excellent for those that aren't the best for math and need it for their General Education. Math 18 is extremely simple and easy to understand. Power point every day and then a worksheet activity either as a class or in small groups. All homework and reading assignments online. Only 4 tests and 4 easy projects. Highly recommended.
Very helpful and fun. She made my mandatory math course bearable! All the homework is online, many tests are take-home, but be sure to actually come to class, because there are a lot of in-class activities.
Jill is an excellent teacher! I am horrible at math and passed this class. She has a great way of explaining things that are normally more difficult to comprehend. Attendance is important for learning the material and for earning easy points. TAKE THIS CLASS!
She's fantastic! I actually miss going to her class and always looked forward to her teachings. I learned a ton and she moves at incredibly reasonable rate. Highly recommend her!
Helpful and kind teacher.
Math 18 is a wonderful class for people who are not the greatess at math. She is a very good teacher, fun, and she teaches in a very strightforward way that makes learning math easy for eeryone. Great class, and great teacher .
Great teacher. Will go out of her way to help students. She honestly was one of the most helpful and considerate teachers I have had at Sierra.
She turned my worst subject into something tolerable! She is so kind and understands that students do have other classes (Which was helpful for me since I had 17 units on my plate). No midterm or final either. Just go to class, do the work and test reviews, if you have a question just ask her and you should be alright. :)
Best math teacher I have ever had. She goes over the material really well, and she's very clear. She's super nice, and if you ever need help, she'll actually help you out. I'd definitely take another math class of her if I could! I very much recommend her :D
Took this class online, really easy. I am not the best student when it comes to math (I've failed 3 math classes before, in jr high and highschool) and this was the easiest math class I've ever taken! And I didn't even crack the book open once, just used the "help me solve this" button while doing the hw. TAKE JILL FOR ANY MATH CLASS SHE TEACHES
If you have a chance to take one of her classes, do it. She is an insightful, kind and fun teacher. I hate math, but I'm actually going to miss her class a little. In the particular math class I took there wasn't a midterm or final. So, it took a lot of stress off.
Jill is an awesome teacher. Very caring and helpful. I started out from Math 581 in Sierra. And now that I'm taking Math D, I have to say she is THE BEST OF ALL. Her teaching style fits everyone's learning style. Her explanations are crystal clear. Before the classes started, I tried to add marybeth's class. I must say, I'm happy I didn't get in.
She is a nice lady. I really liked her at first but as the year went on I realized how "not so great" her grading is. She takes points off anything she can. Other than that, shes pretty helpful and explains things well. Its the easiest course you'll ever take as long you study the night before.
Jill is a nice teacher. She's the professor that takes the easy way out, minimal work required for her. She gives little hw, a test and project per section....not hard but she grades hard...marks off points where she can. Someone was questioning their grade and she told them she just skimmed thru the paper! If i do the work, you grade it! Lame!
The homework in this online class was fairly time consuming. You don't have to read the book, just watch short videos online and make sure you keep up with the assignments and quizzes as they are due, don't fall behind. The website is great because you get instant feedback on your work, and it will guide you through problems you are struggling with
Jill is one of the most passionate professors in the educations dept point blank along with the ILP course a student has alot on there side to succeed math A and math D with jill was a blessing she is the bomb!
She is the best teacher I have ever had! She explained everything very clearly and her lectures were always very organized. I enjoyed her class and teaching style very much! I recommend her to everybody who wants to succeed in math.
Her class was fun and enjoyable. She taught her lessons and then gave a test after every chapter. Which is better, I think, than having to take a big test at the end. Her projects for each chapter were fun and her lectures aren't hard as long as you follow along with the notes she gives you. Online hw. No midterm or final. Overall, great teacher!
Jill made this class very simple to understand and fun to be in. If you don't get what she's teaching she'll help you in class or if you just drop in during her office hours. I recommend taking this if you're not the best at math, her projects are fun and the lessons are interesting things you can use IRL. The h/w and book are online, she's great.
Ive had some terrible teachers which have lead me to hate math. With Jill, she is so sweet and makes sure you understand everything you need to know for the tests. She is one of the best teachers ive ever had.
Best teacher I've ever had. I've taken her for Math A and D and she took a subject that frustrated me to the point of tears and made me love it. She has a masters in mathematics and shows you the best way to do something, not every way possible, losing you along the way. She makes sure the entire class is following along with her. :)
Great professor. Easy, clear, and the class was really fun. Review the note handouts before the texts and take your time with each project.
This was a fun class with an awesome teacher.
Nature of Mathematics rocked my world! Jill teaches interesting and practical topics. She assigns projects where you get to be creative and have fun! She doesnt pick favorites and treats students well who respect her teaching time. A very professional woman- she gives math teachers a good name!
Professor Rafael is an outstanding teacher. Her voice is quiet, calming actually, and her instruction is clear. She loves explaining the meaning behind her math and she loves answering questions. If you have a question she will write out your scenario on the board to explain why it can or can not work. I guarantee that you will love Rafael!
I took this class online so I didn't have face to face interaction, but she seemed nice and always answered emails promptly. Lots of homework and quizzes. If you complete the midterm and final reviews, she gave extra credit. Class was a breeze for me. I mostly used the video lectures provided on MyMathLab
Jill was a great co-professor. She team-taught with another professor, Ken Johnson, and she was great! It was her first time teaching this course, but she offered very helpful advice and offered her office hours to everyone in case they needed help. She respected everyone in the class and was extremely kind.
online summer semester - Way too much homework, too fast, and hard to ask questions. You have to use MyMathLab which is clunky and old. I suspect that because all the homework and tests are automatically graded she assigns more homework. She may or may not be a nice teacher. I have never met her. Online she didn't come across very friendly.
She's ereally clear with her lectures. Takes real life situations and applies it to the material so that you stay interested. Projects are easy and fun, MML homework, 4/5 tests. Really simple. She's super nice too. Highly recommend.
I took this class online, and so basically you're just using a different program with text and videos and such. But Professor Rafael would make some videos where she'd show how to work out specific problems and she always made it crystal clear and simple to understand. She also responds really quickly when you need her.
I took this as an online class so I don't know the teacher personally. But through email she was super helpful. Quick responses and helped throughout the semester. She posts videos to show how to do problems for those who need it. Two in-person tests that she allows to bring note cards. Easy to pass if you study.
This was an online class so it's easy to get behind. Jill Rafael made this class easy. She allows you to complete hw assignments after the due time. She has short videos that she made to assist with some assignments. I met her once at the final on campus and she is very polite and has a great attitude. Also, she is hot!! Lol.
Online was not the way to go for me. I had such a hard time in this class. I hate math though and that is on me not the teacher. My advise is if you struggle in math don't do online!!!
She assigns an average amount of homework. Always gives enough time to finish it. Gave extra credit if you finish the study guide for the midterm. Can retake the quiz once if you don't like your score. Homework she assigns is very accurate to what's on the tests.
Jill really cares and wants to help her students succeed. All work is done on My Math Lab with the exception of the midterm & final which is taken on campus. Assignments due every few days. Grading is 25% HW, 25% quizzes, 25%,Midterm, 25% Final. You'll pass just keep up the work. If you are struggling, communicate with her and she will help you.
Math 18 was a little more difficult than I anticipated, but she tries to make it fun. Just keep up with the homework and you'll do good.
She is a pretty cool teacher and would recommend her for any math class that any student may take. She is very helpful, had a lot of fun activities in this class, and she keeps class interesting.
Jill is a sweetheart. I pretty much despise math, but the material taught in the course is interesting and Jill makes it fun! You must have online access to complete this course. Homework is short and easy- and online. She is available to help you and welcomes you into her other section of the course if you have to miss a day. Projects require work
I took this class online using program called MathLab. Homework about 2-3 days a week. You can redo problems until you get 100% on homework. Use mathlab (external website) if you need help to solve problems. Quiz after every chapter, 2 tries each. Midterm and Final on campus. No book, just program.
Jill stays on point throughout the class. Will help you out to make the math understandable.
Jill is a great instructor! I learned a lot from her teaching methods. I enjoy being her class and would recommend anyone taking Math A or D. Very nice and takes the time to ensure you understand. Also gives extra credit!
I took her online class and loved it. There was an assignment due every day but you can get behind in work and still do the assignments after the due date. Theres an on campus midterm and final. I loved her class because she cares about her students and wants them to pass.
Funny and easy going. Easy A. Never used the textbooks she goes over all important material in lecture. Explains well. you have to buy the code for MyMathLab I believe it is about $80. Has sometimes fun activities or videos. chill class. easy to get a hold of and easy material
Great teacher. 4 tests. 1 is final and cumulative. Dozen quizzes. Homework heavy. Its great practice though. Lectures are clear and she tells you exactly what you need to know. Best math teacher I have ever had.
Professor Rafael is incredible! Super sweet with a great passion for what she teaches, she inspires every student to be the best they can be. I typically loathe math, but she made this course completely enjoyable and even fun! I advise you to take this class if you are like me and are a liberal arts major, or just don't get/like math in general.
Jill is a great instructor because she is always willing to help you if you're struggling. Haven't taken math in years so it was refreshing the way she thoroughly explained the material. Math is Math, just make sure you show up to class and try.
A good teacher overall. I'd take her again but compared to multiple other math teachers I've had, she offers less extra credit and makes you by a specific calculator which is annoying. She is a fairly lenient grader though, and will typically only take a point or two for a wrong answer if you got most of the work right.
Jill is VERY friendly and caring. Very easy class and the information is presented in the easiest possible way to understand. There's daily participation points so you have to show up and there's a few extra credit opportunities throughout the class. No textbook but you have to buy an online math program for the homework which is pricey ($105).
Had her with another professor for my math class. Definitely is a bit more tough on grading but still a very easy going and enjoyable professor. She made Math10 a lot more enjoyable and easy.
I am an art major who hates math, but I LOVED this class! If youve ever been irritated while memorizing math formulas thinking, Ill never use this in my real life, then you would love this class! Everything Jill teaches in this class can be used in everyday situations. Lots of participation, group exercises and projects. Cool teacher.
Jill is awesome! I hate algebra but she made the class a lot more enjoyable. We used MyMathLab. Thing did get a little more difficult when we moved to online format but she did a great job. She grades very fairly and you can attend office hours for extra support. Super friendly and caring, take her!!
The teacher says that she is available to help, but has one day to zoom for an hour. Refers student to the math center. Sent an email stating that if you have questions about assignments she refers you back to the lectures/videos. Provides harsh feedback. Not helpful if you struggle with math. Might be a better class to take in person.
Not one single session was taught by the professor. No clear syllabus. No clear timeline for assignments & tests. Rafael often contradicted the textbook in both terminology & logic... and then weaves those contradictions into the tested material. Some of the course content was exclusive non-accredited Youtube content.
Read everything about five times over. The material is super easy, but you will get a ton of points taken off if you do not read every single requirement for every single project. Also, some points are not explained very well or are difficult to understand.
She was great. I would say she's pretty fair. She does not judge nor discriminate! She will give several chances for you to go back and re correct assignments and do extra credit work. This teacher has easy projects also. Take this class if you want to for sure pass and if you want a good teacher who cares.
I was nervous to take math, and this course sounded "easier" compared to the other alternatives. The 8wk session is completely manageable and relatively easy to follow. Each week is a new aspect (which is cool). I would say 2/8 weeks were particularly confusing for me, but the rest were fine. She grades fair apart from at the end, didn't round up.
