She is an awesome teacher! If you study the powerpoints she gives you, you are set to go. I always enjoyed her class. She is a very caring person and so helpful. She is happy to help her students in any kind of way. I really learned a lot from her class.
easy teacher... just print the notes from blackboard and you will be set
Good teacher. Very funny making the class bearable. The tests mainly come from the notes. Overall an easy class.
Tests stright from PPT. so easy.. IF you are PREPHARM, dont take this class because she leaves out info that will be on PCAT-- make sure to take 152. But overall great.

Really fun and interesting to listen to. Very cute too.
i totally disagree with all of you. i think her class is the most B.S. class i've ever taken. she's NOT a good teacher and she picks out the most specific little details from the notes to ask on the test. she sucks.
Bad sense of humor. Dodges Q's she doesnt know the Answers to. Picks on people who smoke cigarettes. Some test Q's come from that expensive book and werent even discussed in detail in class. MUST READ $$$$ TEXT. annoying extra credit and attendance policies. sweet lady though i like her i swear.
A good teacher, especially for the summer when no one wants to do anything. However, she can be a little boring and bland. Also, she sometimes goes way to fast on the notes but she may have changed her notes to powerpoint, so it will be easier. She is nice though.
She said she was getting a reputation of being too easy, so apparently she decided to make this semester ridiculously hard. Last two test averages were 56 & 58. She's a poor teacher who doesn't care about her students. She sucks.
This class is NOT an easy class! This semester she decided to change her teaching style a little and now is a pretty hard teacher. She is unclear about what is going to be on the tests and takes the class like a joke. She thinks her poor humor will make up for her lack of knowleadge on the subject.
Wow. I liked Bio until I took her class. There was a lack of clarity with her pwrpoints(she often re-edits them b/c of errors) & she is disorganized. This disorganization carries over to her lectures, quizzes, & tests. Good luck trying to study for them. The last 2 class avgs were in the 50's.
tests are straight from book, so it's pretty easy if you memorize pretty much everything on the PPT. But it looks like she changed her teaching style and made it a little challenging. good luck!

Course is fairly easy if you go to lectures and take notes from power points. Final Exam based mostly on the first three exams which were posted.
Lectures are clear, but you HAVE to review the material. The people who complain about her teaching style are most likely slackers who want to be spoon-fed an easy A. If you keep up with the material, and FOLLOW THE STUDY TIPS SHE POSTS ONLINE, you should get an A.
Really energetic and passionate in her lectures. She is really interesting. Dr. Reid is also kind of hot.
easy teacher and tests are right off her PPT. study her notes and you'll get an A.
I don't suggest taking any courses with her. I took Human Bio and it was horrible. Every class a few people would ask questions and she wouldn't know the answers. I'd say she answered maybe 2 out of 15 questions asked during the entire semester. It appears that she doesn't even know the material she is teaching. She's no good, stay away.
She got braces the semester I had her, and that kinda made her a lil bit hotter... ha... I enjoyed her and she was really easy to talk to after class. I wasn't intimidated by her at all.
I loved having her for my professor! She really DOES know her stuff (contrary to other comments made here) and she likes biology. She's helpful outside of class if you need her, just make sure you show up to class and review the ppt! She's only "tricky" or a "bad teacher" to those who don't want to put an effort into their learning!
Took her summer 05, my 3rd time with the course (all my fault).. found her a bit too easy for the course she was teaching, if you take her during the summer, you may not get all the necessary information you would otherwise get.
Great teacher but going to lectures is extremely important. You get points just for showing up. And she gives bonus quizzes before each test. It's pretty difficult not to get an A.
She is great

She is too easy. No wonder this course does not count for a bio degree. It is a seventh grade science class. Everything she teaches is given on blackboard before hand, yet you must come to all lectures as she actually takes attendence of a 175 student lecture class. This is college for christ sake.
Jill Reid is fantastic! She is energetic, interesting, and you really learn alot. Althoug there is alot to learn and memorize, she tries very hard to make the process as positive as possible. P.S. She's also pretty hot.
this class sucks b/c she had changed her notes to become very brief and no powerpoints available. and she doesn't cover everything you'd expect. she sucks. don't take her. there's no point of her even teaching when she's going to take stuff from the book that she hardly covers in class.
The class could be fun and interesting if she did not try so hard to fail her students. She is absolutely rediculous and tries extremely hard to trick people on the test. Her teaching methods are a shame to the university.
Nice person and interesting lecturer, but VERY HARD! I studied extremely hard for the class and always felt lost on exams. They seem to be designed to trick and confuse students rather than test them of their knowledge. Very hard, esp. considering it's a course for non-Bio majors!
Jill Reid is overall a great teacher. You can tell she likes to teach and wants you to succeed. She gives bonus quizzes too. She seems concerned that she will be seen as too easy, so she does put some tricky questions on her tests. Aside from that, She is wonderful. She is one of my favorite teachers. I love to hear her talk. She's good looking too
She doesn't give all of her notes online you have to go to class to fill in some gaps. You only need the book for some diagrams, she doesn't take much from it. The tests aren't tricky if you actually know what's going on, and we got a total of 25 bonus points. She's a great teacher that enjoys what she teaches and knows what she's talking about.
Jill is the bestEST professor. She makes the course very interesting and tells you more than enough information. Class requires a lot of work, but Jill makes them interesting and worth studying. She is like a GODDESS. I recommend taking any of her classes.
EASY teacher!! But you gotta come to class.
Jill the best teacher ever. She's NOT a hard teacher. The only thing she could do to make the class easier is to give the answers to her tests (which she does in her notes, anyway). Her tests come straight from the notes. You don't even need to read the book, just look at the diagrams. If you come to every class and look over your notes, you will pass!
To me it felt like this woman was just WAITING to give me a C/D at the end of the term. People on the Myspace professor board agree too. She treated us like 12-yr olds and was a staunch attendence-taker. If you miss a class, expect a nasty email. Her tests were very poorly written & She is SO UNFAIR. I woundnt even wish this professor on my enemies
Nice teacher and witty..Sometimes questions were worded differently and sometimes that is confusing, but if you know the stuff you can get an A. She also gives bonus quizzes. Overall good teacher.
Great Teacher!
i am writing this in hopes that my teacher will log on thinking she is so cool for knowing about this site so she can find out what people think of her outside the realms of those phoney evaluations.i want her to know i hate her.her notes were incomplete and unformatted. i elaborated 40 pages on the notes she gave and i recieved a 48% on the test.
complete idiot.
She made BIO little more fun. She gives the notes online and reviews them in class so GO TO CLASS class cause she will emphasize more on the parts that will be on the test and she gives these bonus quizzes that will help out your grade alot in the end. Shes was also big on extra credit.
she is really nice and helpful!! take her!!! just go to class, and study and you will do really well! great teacher!!!
she does make this class somewhat interesting with her side jokes and witty comments. but over all her tests are extremely hard due to poor wording and lack of being clear when teaching some of the things. i take studying very seriously, and usually average a/b in my classes. however, i studied alot for this class and i got a 50% on my first test.
She's a cool teacher. Very willing to help students and really nice. Definitely would recommend anyone to take her. She provides powerpoint notes online. :)
AWESOME!
shes's so nice, and wants us to get an A
she's kinda weird. her exams i think are hard although we use a notesheet. she could also be somewhat offending and close minded about her beliefs of a higher power. she spent last class about 30 minuits trying to prove no existance of a god in a close minded way.
If you go to the class, her class is easy to understand and enjoyable. I've only read the book only about once but with her notes and explanations, Im getting As nn the test with very little help from the notesheet (that she allows you to use). And I don't think she is closed minded about higher beings, she was just trying to cover all the views
She is a great teacher, though she could really overhaul the way that she does her tests. No one in reality should really base their test on 70+ "Circle All That Apply" or "Check That Box That Applies" questions. They are bound to trip even the most intense studier in the class. The Material that she presents is quite thought provoking!
She is a very good teacher. She covers alot of material ,but the 1 page cheat sheet she allows helps temendously. She mentions alternatives to evolution, but she does not endorse creationism or intelligent design. She brings them up to show that they are not SCIENCE. She is not trying to influence your religious beliefs. Go to class and study!
Shes not easy, but an A is possible, a B is likely, and to get a C just show up and guess on the exams, no one in the world can get an F or D, shes cool though, really nice and cute ,not rude at all, the nicest prof Ive had here!!! i THINK SHE HAS BRACES, SO SHES COOOL
i actually liked this class! she had a lot of supplemental things in the lectures to help in understanding the topic at hand. after an accident and missing a lot of the semester, and an I, i still ended up turning it into a B. I liked her too as a professor, easy to understand and helpful if you need assistance...
Jill is a GREAT teacher. She knows her stuff, makes the class very fun (and funny), and is easy on the eyes. The Lab was lots of fun and very interesting/educational. The lectures were kinda boring , but I'm a more hands-on person. Both classes are a LOT of work, but if you're interested in the material, it isn't too bad and you'll enjoy it.
i loved her. enough said.
She's is great. She tells you what's on the test. Go to class for she does pop quizes. Gives lots of extra credit.
She makes it clear what is expected and is very fair. Her class is fun and she is a wonderful person!
Easy teacher, easy class. She gives you everything thats on the test and gives easy pop quizes for an easy A. However, she often has snappy or rude replies to question asked.
Great class. I thought she was VERY fair...wanted students to succeed. Many extra credit opportunities - it is your fault if you don't take them. Enthusiastic. Would love to take another class from her.
great teacher, but you still need to study
Her class is so easy because you get to take a piece of paper with notes on it and her test come straight from the notes, so you dont even to read the book or even buy the book, bc I never open the book. make sure you go to class because she takes attendence and counts as a test grade at the end. her final exam comes straight from the first 3 tes
She's a great teacher and i know that this semester is gonna be very easy.
You get to use a cheat sheet but don't be fooled. The tests are EXTREMELY difficult in that the detail questions go into can be quite in depth so you have to know practically EVERYTHING. Other than that, an interesting topic and the difficulty forces you to learn it.
She's not that hard. Exams are culumative, meaning there is NO final. It's human bio so there's a lot of memorization. Her notes are awesome! There are extra credit pop quizes (when ever she pulls an overhead projector, theres a pop quiz). She does let you have a cheat sheet. She's very energetic, and her class is fun... i def recommend her class!
GOD'S greatest gift to VCU. Yes, her class is hard, it's a lot to take in. Her tests kick but, even if you study. She cares about her students and really wants them to do well. She is always willing to help students and geez she loves Bio, and it's great to hear her talk about it b/c she makes it interesting and is passionate about teaching.
i am speechlessly disappointed.
she was very enthusiastic, course started out slow, but after the first test it picked up. necessary to go to class, especially after the first test.
ok so it was not that bad. loved the feasts and ec but there were things she spent too much time on and things she did not spend enough time on. tons of hw.
She is a gr8 prof. She will keep you entertained and try to get you interested in the subject. You must learn the material for her exams-no memorizing! She's really nice and if she likes you then you'll probably become her friend on Facebook! :-)
The absolute best biology teacher I have ever had! I wish daily that she taught all of my biology courses then maybe I would fly through college with As and a perfect understanding of all material!
Tests are Cumulative and a bit of a challenge, so don't forget anything! Gives 20 points extra credit for attendance. Book is mandatory, she posts outlines on BB, but you still need to take notes and fill in the blank. Most exams are right out of Lecture, online work is all out of text.
she is very energetic, and she knows how to keep an 8am class entertaining
Not good.
Boring class, boring teacher.
Kind of a difficult subject but she makes it understandable. She's also high-energy making the class more interesting. Definitely read the text. Tests are cumulative so make sure you review previous material, and take advantage of her teaching assistant that runs the study sessions.
Great teacher. She has incredible energy even for an 8 am class. She gives pop quizzes which she kind of uses as attendance but also uses as extra credit. Her tests are pretty easy, they are multiple choice, multiple answer, and definitely are doable without too much studying. I would definitely recommend her.
Excellent teacher. Does a really good job of keeping class interesting. I do suggest reading the text. It's not an easy A, but you will get a lot out of this class. I definitely recommend her.
her test are insanely hard. she didnt go over the information good enough. she did general information and her test are specific information.
Jill is the best. The class is EASY. The art book is really helpful. You dont need the text book. She lets you use a cheat sheet on tests and the old test she posts on blackboard are really help full. Study your class notes, art book and old test and you should be fine. She also has lots of extra credit points available. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!
Pretty easy professor. Incredibly easy to get a A. Usually never really lecturs but talks about her life and such(health nut). Has projects which are basically a waste of time and has nothing to do with what we're learning. Online quiz which is an automatic A. You have a midterm and a final but 2 exams for each, a take home and written.
Jill Reid is a nice lady. The problem, though, lies in her teaching. Her tests are in some kind of strange format that no one has ever been exposed to and all she does is assign JOURNAL assignments (remember high school journal assignments??) and talks about nutrition and her kids. Also, she can be quite moody. SHE NEVER ACTUALLY TEACHES BIOLOGY.
If you're taking her for Human Bio, be prepared to learn more about the environment than the human body. Be prepared to be sent to propaganda websites for 'journal' entries. She knows very little on the subject matter and was lost if she didn't have notes. A lot of subject matter on tests she doesn't teach or even go over. One bonus: it's an easy A
It's basically all self-study because she doesn't teach much in her lectures. Online quizzes and tests (tests are quite tough), 2 group projects, and journals. She's pretty nice, but can be rude when it comes to important things. The workload is a little demanding and reading the book was a must for me, I got an A but definitely not without effort!
Her test suck!!!! All she talks is about organic this organic that and her family. You really have the feeling that she just knows the basic and often lacks knowledge on the subject.
I learned ABSOLUTELY nothing. She doesn't teach in her lectures AT ALL. The only reason I bothered going was to catch up on my sleep, and be present in case there was a pop quiz. I managed to scrape by because her tests were take-home, and I just skimmed the book for answers. DO NOT TAKE if you will actually need to know BIO later in school!!!
The power points and notes were great. I loved her energy and her interest in the subject. If you needed help, she would answer questions. She was very accommodating.
Ms. Reid is energetic and fun! I enjoy her lectures although I don't get a whole lot out of them. Exams are impossible even though they are all online and open book. The homework is minimal, but kind of challenging. Attendance is not required, but I recommend showing up every now and then. She's very helpful but only in person, doesn't answer email
you will learn nothing in her lectures, !! she read out of her power points ! doesn't explain anything. and goes off topic all the time. impossible online test, don't be fooled by the " take it twice , an you have a week " thing. her homework and grading policy all just so silly. she can be really rude so don't try talking to her unless you had to
she is the only one teaching this class , so you pretty much don't have an option. I started to believe she knows nothing about biology because she tends to go off the topic .really rude when it comes to individuals. the way she answers question in class is not professional. and the worst part she can go so far to make you believe in what she belie
the best possible BIO 151 teacher. all homework and tests are online. homework is available online for about a month and the test is available for a week. journals are in class and are an easy A. Reid is enthusiastic about the subject and a pretty good teacher. The material isn't very difficult at all, and tests often have questions from previous t
never went to class & passed with a C. cud hav done better but did not really feel like it. all quizzes and tests are online. buy the book and you will pass. you have multiple chances to take everything. the worst part is that quizzes and tests are multiple choice/answers. meaning that it is multiple choice and could be more than 1 right answer
Yeah, she's a nice teacher and all. Relatively easy. But she is a bleeding heart liberal. Mind you, I am quite liberal as well, but the stuff she gets into is far too personal. She does not respect personal ideas, and forces you to believe what she believes. She's an aging hippie, and its obvious. She's kinda pretentious in that regard.
nice teacher, very energetic for an 8am class. most of the answers for HW and exams are in the textbook, but some are from class discussions so it's a good idea to attend class. The journals for the additional book we have to read can be annoying since they are handwritten and require info from other sources.
She was covering for another teacher, but she was bad with the material and not understanding at all about legitimate absences. I got the flu and was hospitalized and she wouldn't let me make up my work. Big on groups, very elementary methods. I do not recommend her for 151.
The only problem was that we never stuck on the notes for more than 10 minutes, she would end up rambling about something else, & you'd never get the notes done for that class. Overall, she's a great professor. Sweet/goofy personality.
Ill put it this way, its an easy B, but its pretty hard to actually get an A. Her tests are online and theyre pretty impossible. I had my dad help me with all of mine and he works as a doctor who sees patients and a researcher and I still got Bs on all my tests.
Can be a tough course, but I learned a lot. A LOT! Exams feel like they're impossible. She likes for you to think outside the box. I recommend doing journals, she gives you the option to skip them, but don't, they can be a learning experience. I thought she was an interesting professor and I look forward to taking her for BIOL 217.
This class is very easy. She's a really bubbly lady who can some how make 8ams bearable. Notes will help you if you actually get a chance to do some, but definitely have the book for tests.
Far to perky at 8AM (I'm to grumpy in the morning to like bouncy, excited people). She never stuck on notes with substantial information. Instead she would ramble on about her nutritious views and "healthy" lifestyle. The tests were hard and she LOVED group projects (so elementary school). However, the projects got me an A...
Sure she is a little too perky and happy for an 8am class, even if you aren't awake (like me) you would still enjoy what she has to say. She teaches unconventionally. You will learn something new both in the Bio and knowledge to empower you to make your own choices in your life. Read the book (it's easy) and you'll do fine on test/hw..all online.
She is a great teacher, the class is very clear-cut and mostly online. She is very nice, and very perky.
SHE IS SO AWESOME! Ms. Reid made CVA not only doable, but fun! I feel like she changes it up every semester, but for my class, the lecture essays and exams were online and open-book; thank goodness because some of the questions were hard. The lab portion is time-consuming, but not difficult. I got an A, but I dedicated A LOT of time to this class.
Really biased class, but not hard overall. It's hard to pay attention in her class, kinda boring. You WILL be hearing Ms. Reid say "eat your fruits and vegetables"....for the rest of your life.
This class is easy but has nothing to do with Human Bio, it's basically just the professor talking about her political view on hot topics. The actual lectures on units concerning human biology are boring and dry. Expect to be told that every product you use or eat is terrible for you.
This class was pretty easy, but extremely unenjoyable. She taught us that everything we eat is bad for us and ranted about how bad the food industry is. I'm a very liberal person, but I got sick of it. We learned next to nothing about the biology of nutrition and when we did, it was rulll boring. She was not passionate about it at all.
An easy A (all the graded assignments are open note and online), but the teacher doesn't actually teach the fundamentals of nutrition she just talks about how bad all foods are for you and the corruption of the food industry.
She's crazy and takes attendance about 7 times over the entire semester. Buy the book for the online tests and homework
Loves the material and really knows what she's talking about.
Shes a fun lady but really crazy. The tests are difficult because they are multiple answer but they are not so bad if you really take your time on them. I managed to get an A not really sure how.
Dont really get her. She loves and cares about her students UNTIL they slip up and she hates that student after that. Also has favorites that she lets get away with anything. Check her grading, she makes lots of mistakes! Catching her gave me an A and not a B. Loves being a harda** so takes every opportunity to prove it!
This class was a 3 week class that started @ 8:30 in the am and I am definitely not a morning person, but after the first class I was HOOKED...Taking this class has opened my eyes to so much that we often overlook when it comes to what we eat...Take this class if you want to learn and get what you pay for....
Fantastic woman. I wasn't crazy for this class at first because it was an eight AM but once I started going, I absolutely loved it. The reading was awesome and I found myself excited to read it. She's so sweet and definitely in love with what she's teaching. Tests are easy as long as you read the material and you can have friends help you out.
I took this class because it required for psych majors. I did not want to but with Professor Reid I would take it over again. Instead of worrying about finishing hard assignments, she gave us learning opportunities. Why not understand how our world impacts or bodies. We have been learning about what our body does our entire lives. Take the class.
What a disappointment of a class. It was a very watered down biology course for us "dumb" psych majors. Reid is interesting, but the only thing I learned was don't smoke, evolution is real, and don't eat junk food. Attendance is mandatory. The videos she showed were probably the best, most informative part of the course.
LOVED CVA! She made class fun & interesting with random facts & cool documentaries. Lecture was a breeze-online exams & class discussions. Absolutely enjoyed the lab, but too bad she isn't teaching labs anymore. She cares about her students and wants everyone to get a good grade. u'll need to work ur butt off for that A though. Lab's a bit tough
She's are really good teacher, coming to class is a must she takes attendance and gives assigned seats. You only have assessments on the weekends, there's is no midterm or final!! Her class isn't hard to pass at all you really do not need to buy the book cause whats on the assessment is what's talked about in class.
Great professor. VERY easy class. Required two books - "Evolution" and a "Body" book. We didn't use the Body book ONCE and I paid over $50 for it! Other than that, as long as you go to class, easy A. There are no tests, just online quizzes. Attendance is required.
DON'T even bother buying the book. Love her but I hate that her grading scale is 93-100=A. You complete 4 journals on a book u have to read (u choose one) and there are weekly online assessments (quizzes) on the material she taught in class. You will get an A if you: **GO TO CLASS** take notes, PAY ATTENTION, & do the journals! There's NO FINAL! :)
This class is bs. Make sure you check Blackboard EVERYDAY because she will likely mess up your attendance, which determines your grade at the end of the semester. Useless class and didn't learn anything, but it's mandatory for my major. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL.
Apparently this semester(spring 11) she changed everything up from previous classes so u never know. But, GO TO CLASS. & really pay attention & take notes b/c you'll need them for the weekly assessments. No exams. Never used the book. share the small books w/ a friend. DONT buy the big bio book. Shes interesting so you wont mind going to class
This class was pretty cool. she gave"assessments" instead of exams, tests, and projects. (they're online, open book once a week) you have to go to class b/c it's mandatory but also b/c she gives you all of the information for the assessments. it wasn't hard at all. the only problem i had was getting up for the 8am class.
Attendance is mandatory. You're only allowed to miss 1 class & any after that your letter grade drops. Missing 2 classes made my grade go from an A to a B. She does these half sheet notes from almost every class so proofread the chapters, write a couple sentences about your thoughts & you'll be fine. reading the whole book isn't necessary though
Tests are ridiculously hard. You must fully understand ALL material to pass. Class average on test was 60% in a class of 200+ students. No curve, she blames bad grades on students not her test.
Unfair grading policy. Expects everyone in class to be biology majors that only care about this course. No curves on tests when everyone fails.
horrible. this class is beyond hard. you dont learn anything. you spend most of your time figuring out how to study for tests that have have an average of 7 answer choices per question. the teacher is enthusiastic about teaching students how to learn, but isnt successful at all. the required reading gets in the way of regular class.
Jill Reid is probably the most awful professor I have had in my three years at VCU. Not only is she rude and unapproachable, but her teaching style is completely useless. After going to class, taking notes, reading the text, and studying for hours, her tests are impossible to do well on unless you have a background in bio. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
I dont understand, I read about her from the past and its like reading about 2 diff people. Her tests are unpassable The 2 extra books are time consuming along with the text book and trying to study for her hard crazy tests where you have 8 answers to chose from for 1 ques. Her attitude is awful too, she is mean, like she doesn't want to be there
I found that this class is pretty easy if you study everyday. Dont try to cram in one night cause that wont work. Her test are pretty much essay with a some tables and short phrases. Go to open lab whenever possible and take pictures!
where can i start? well, when the average for the first 2 tests both happen to be 60's then there must be something wrong. then when you throw a book on top of that called, Eating the Sun, all hell breaks loose. the book is extremely confusing and is giving everyone in the class a hard time comprehending what is going on....she's not understanding.
Unreasonably hard. Don't take. Too much side work, and tests are impossible.
Tests are in MC format with 6-10 possible answers. Never have I studied so many hours and been so confident in my knowledge of the material and then found out I got a D or F on the exam. This is a common sentiment among students in the class. Reid wholly blames students for their bad grades on her tests without recognizing flaws in her methodology.
She is an awful professor! DON'T TAKE HER. she just reads over powerpoint slides. she rushes through the slides and does not teach the class the material in detail, yet her exams are detailed and confusing questions that have 8 possible answers. test averages are in the 60's. that says something about the professor, not the students who study hard
Ms. Reid is the worst professor I've had at VCU in several years. I'm generally an A student, with a sense of accountability, but this class has just been ridiculous. Ms. Reid does not know how to structure a test. Her tests pretty much set you up to fail: 25 questions, most questions with 6 or more choices and convoluted phrasing. Worst ever.
terrible, tests impossible
If you show up for class and TAKE NOTES ON WHAT SHE SAYS, it's an easy A. If you just read the slides you aren't going to get an A, put some effort into it! You might actually have to do some reading/practice on your own outside of class to fully understand but it is honestly not hard if you PAY ATTENTION and TRY, THIS IS NOT HIGH SCHOOL!!
she is by far the most unreasonable professor i have ever had. her tests are just confusing and hard. even when your clear on the material she words her questions in a way to confuse students. its like she purposely wants students to do bad. and she doesnt know how to teach. just an overall bad professor.
I took her a few semesters ago and she was awesome! The only 8am I ever enjoyed going to. However, more recent reviews on here seem to think otherwise.
She is too highly opinionated for a class that required no opinion what so ever. Class averages for the tests were usually between an F and a C, which should speak to her teaching skills. All in all avoid her if at all possible.
Her tests are absolutely RIDICULOUS, I don't even know how she thinks they are okay to give to students..it's almost comical how hard they are. She gives about 8 options for each question and the questions themselves are confusing.
she is the worst professor! instead of wanting students to learn, she makes the tests so impossible to confuse students. its like she wants to see students struggle. she doesnt know how to teach, and her test questions are vague and impossible to answer. DONT TAKE HER! intro to biology isnt difficult, but she has found a way of making it impossible
This class is ridiculous. Her tests are incredibly hard, she gives you 6+ options for answer choices making it super confusing, and the tests only have roughly 12-20 questions that cover A LOT of material. It's so difficult to know what to study or to even get a good grade on anything. If it's not mandatory, don't take this class with her.
Prof. Reid is...quirky. Friendly lady, just a bit odd and sometimes makes things more difficult than need be.(Class participation based on right or wrong answers?)GO TO CLASS and do the homework! She's a very lively character even if it is 8am. She's easy to listen to, print out the outlines she gives and use them for notes. They're rather helpful.
Rude, unapproachable, unreasonable, and cannot teach!!! has made class impossible because of her rediculous exams. DO NOT EVER TAKE HER!
I would not suggest this course, it seems like she is in a transitioning period from online tests to in class tests. The test extremely difficult. I would study for days for the test, feel like I had mastered the material and then get a D on the test!. It was extremely frustrating. I definitely would not suggest this class!
Her test were difficult. But she gives alot of test so that you can hopefully raise your grade. I got a 50 on two test, one was replaced by a practice test and one was factored to my final grade. Homework, attendance, and clickers are 40% of the grade so even though I had a C test average I got a B in the class
Jill Reid is no help for biology. I am not trying to be mean, but Mrs. Reid make this class hard on purpose. She is not wiling to help you at all. She is very rude with her emails; she expect students not to email her of any question. Her test are ridiculous. But just like any class you control your destiny. STUDY HARD and you will get an A like me
She's unhelpful and rude. Her tests are ridiculous with 8 different choices and combinations for every question. She's close minded and sometimes it seems like she's trying to fail the entire class. Attendance is mandatory, even though she just reads slides to you that are already online.
She is AWFUL!!! I read every page for every chapter and never received a B on an exam. She's awful. This is class is easy, but she makes it impossible for you to pass with a decent grade.
Reid is awesome--she really knows her stuff. Though her tests are a little tricky, almost all of the Qs are from the online LearnSmart modules (so study them!!) The only reading you do is the nutrition books that she assigns. Lots of group work and class participation points. She drops a few grades, too.I know how to eat well after taking the class
I found her to be extremely helpful, but it might have been different since I took her during the summer online. There's a lot of assignments and 3 books to read plus other group stuff, but it was all well worth it. I received an A, and every time I emailed her I was met with nothing but friendly responses.
She is one of the worst Professor at VCU. She knows her stuff very well but she doesn't know how to teach. When taking the class, I thought I am going to learn about human body but all of her lecture was about nutrition. STAY AWAY
If you don't have a life take her online class. She is way too strict with deadlines. Online classes are meant to be convient for people with heavy schedules. I have two jobs and a full time student. She can care less and won't give extensions on the work. The things you learn are interesting but do yourself a favor and take someone else.
There are multiple assignments due per day. They take around one-two hours each. She doesn't take into account the fact that people have other classes leading to people struggling to finish assignments. It's not a hard class, but it's made difficult by all the assignments that need to be completed. She's extremely picky about deadlines.
Took Jill Reid online. Very straightforward class, you always know what is expected of you, and when every due date is. There is a LOT of work, with online modules for every chapters, extra videos, two other books to read, and group discussions. On the plus side, there are zero tests, so once you finish material, you won't see it again.
Yes, she is hard because she gives a lot of assignments. We had a textbook, plus two other books, video's, on-line lectures and research, research, research! If you want to learn, take Reid, if your looking for an easy class, take someone else.
This is a great professor, people just fail to READ the questions, she's not trying to trick you, chances are she just flipped the question around for the exam. I've had her for several classes and yes she can be hard, but you actually LEARN in her class. College shouldn't be a walk in the park folks!
She is very helpful. It is a lot of work but she give you ample of time to get it all done. I took this class online and loved it. The connect assignment associates with the book are very good before tests. You must read the text book before taking the connect assignment tests or you won't do good. Overall she's a good online instructor.
I understand this class is online now. When I had it, it wasn't. She gave us assigned seats in a 300 person lecture hall. Lots of busy work. I got a C because I missed 2 classes (and provided doctor's notes) even with A coursework (it's not a hard class). I am sure it's different online, but I am not the hugest fan of her class.
Loved her online nutrition class. She is very clear & organized when it comes to assignments & learning modules. Theres's no tests but a lot of busy work. Take her class if you want to learn a lot and want an easy A. Don't take her if you're not willing to do at least 45 min of work per day. Love her!!!
This is an online class and it's an easy A. She's very good at making an organized online course and makes the due dates and assignment guidelines clear, but she is not a nice person in general. She is very unforgiving and you get penalized for small stuff. I had her for BIO 151 and didn't like her then. Any valid excuses don't fly with her.
I took her class online and while it was a lot of work, I found the topic extremely interesting. There are assignments due everyday, but if you work ahead you should have no problem. She is very friendly, but does not give extensions for classwork. The only complaint I have is the deadline for homework is 4'oclock every day. Still an easy A!
I took this class and got a B, but I have to say, I really did not appreciate Jill Reid as a teacher. I don't doubt that she knew her stuff, but she was wholly unhelpful and rude when emailed questions. Her quizzes were hard and very little time was given. For a 300 level class, it was very hard. More like a 400 level, and she doesn't make it easy
I took her online class, and I loved it! There aren't any tests , but you have to do a lot of assignments and busy work. I learned so much from this class, and Reid was always friendly when I emailed her.
Great Class, it is online so it gives you plenty of time and you can work on your online assignments and lectures anytime as long as you submit or do everything before the due date. The lab is challenging, need to memorize a lot, but it is fun. Needs a lot of time, but I am glad, I did put my time into it and I got an A, I am so happy.
Great Teacher! Really Easy!! Take her class if you can!
Do NOT take this online class!! This is obviously not a difficult class but it is SO much work for a 3 credit online class. There is a 400 word minimum blog due 3 times a week and also a couple quizzes. Sometimes there is TWO 400-word blogs AND a quiz due on the SAME day. This professor must think students don't take any other class besides hers.
Professor Reid was very straightforward about what she expected from us, with it being an online class there are a lot of assignments but she gives you plenty of time (usually 2 weeks) to do every assignment. Once you do the material you are done with it, no final, just chapter quizzes, and blog posts. Great class, highly recommend before anatomy!
Great class. Even though it can be considered an easy A class, you will end up learning quite a bit because of the amount of material. Your time management is what determines your grade (rather than your intelligence).
she is awesome! Great at replying emails. Follow her instructions and deadlines very important.
Reid is very clear about what you need to do. You'll never be confused about what to do for an assignment, and that is important for an online class. I will warn you- this class, Nutrition, is kind of a lot of work. It's easy, and if you stay ahead of the work you'll be fine. Falling behind? You'll have your work cut out for you.
Honesty, the best professor at VCU in the Biology department. I took 391 with her and I'm registered for 217 for Fall 2015. She is amazing, VERY organized, gives you plenty of time to finish assignment. If you need a bio class then take her and you will be VERY happy. I needed up with an A+!
Jill is super helpful. She assigns ALOT of work though, for an online class. I almost couldn't keep up toward the end of the semester when she had 2-3 things due each day. Most of these assignments take 2 hours to do and require a great amount of reading. She has flexible due dates but regardless you have to stay on top of your work in this class!
This class was very easy. She was generally helpful, but at times disorganized. It helps that you can work ahead. You basically read a few books, do discussion board posts, and take quizzes. The TED talks you watch are pretty interesting.
Decent class. A lot of work but you can word ahead because she gives you at least 2 weeks per unit. Sometimes instructions were slightly unclear but she is very helpful. Overall easy A if you put in the work.
Even though I got an A in the class, I had to work for it. It was the first online class I have taken, and as soon as it opened the first day I knew I had made the wrong choice. She will give you an honor code violation for things as simple as posting on the wrong blog. Forget about asking questions, because she will yell at you. Horrible professor
Dr. Reid's class was wonderful! Would definitely take again. She was helpful and friendly
BECOME A GOOGLE PRO AND YOU WILL GET AN A.
Easy online class, she even gives you an extra week or sometimes two weeks to finish all of your work. Assignments are online which means you google them or skim the readings. She has very specific wording and grading criteria and updates her BB and emails quite frequently with reminders. I'm taking another class with her and it's been a breeze.
She is a nice lady but FIRM on the syllabus which is understandable. I don't recommend relying on google but it is hard not to since it is an online class. In order to do well on the reading quizzes... I recommend reading. There is little to no extra credit.
She is such a sweet lady! I've also taken her other classes and she is really kind and always there for you!
Her class is easy, but so much work for no reason. She gives you like two weeks to complete unit assignments, which is awesome but don't procrastinate because it'll suck. Her reading quizzes suck since she words her questions really weird, so read the books for sure.
Pretty straight forward but it is no walk in the park. I got an A but spent anywhere between 9-12 hours per week doing assignments. The key is to work ahead and stay ahead. 2 weeks per unit seems like alot but it isn't when you have other classes. I don't recommend if you're a first time online course taker or dont know how to discipline your time.
Mrs. Reid is a great professor given the fact that her course is entirely online. I felt as though she cared for her students and that she wanted them to do well despite the fact that she has not met the majority of them.
She is a nice lady who tries to help her students as best as she can. This class is a lot of work but not hard if you manage your time correctly. There are quizzes for each unit due every other week, and discussion posts about readings due every other week as well. Quizzes are based off videos and textbooks, and are not hard if you pay attention.
This class is pretty straight forward, but there is a lot of work. If you keep up with assignments, it is a very lax class, but if you fall behind it will be stressful. I would recommend buying the online versions of the chapter books to easily find the answers for the quizzes. Stay on top of work and it will be an easy A.
It's an online class so I've never met her but she seems very nice in e-mails. It's a lot of work for an online class, but if you keep track of it and don't get behind you should be fine. I definitely learned a lot from the videos/TedTalks/docu's. Recommend getting the online textbooks so you can "control-F" keywords, because it's a lot of reading.
It's an online class with a decent amount of work, so the key is just staying on top of things! always post as soon as you're able to for discussion boards, because it's easy to forget.
This class is pretty easy to get a good grade in as long you stay on top of assignments, as it is quite a bit of videos to watch, readings, and quizzes due every other week; there are discussions due biweekly as well. She seems to be very caring by posting weekly reminders about upcoming assignments and accessible when you have questions.
It's an online class. So basically a TON of busy work. Reid is clear with grading in regards to projects and stuff. This class will take up more time than you will expect, but it isn't too bad.
You definitely need the books for this class (there are like 4-5 of them). A lot of reading for just one quiz! 3-4 quizzes due on one day so DO NOT wait to the last minute to complete them. There are projects and discussions. Overall, just be sure to be on top of your due dates. Teacher is very accessible. Good class for 1st online class-takers.
Very nice lady, but the class sucks. Most of the points you get off are for strangely worded questions that are unclear with what they want for answers. The material itself isn't hard, the difficulty lies in reading the mind of the stupid system they use for grading answers. Get the bonus points early on, don't underestimate the class.
The class is online but she makes it pretty easy to pass if you just do the work provided the only thing you'd need to study for are the quizzes.
Really nice, always answers email back. The actual online class is a lot of work, but if you put in time and effort you should be able to get a good grade easily. I also recommend to get ahead as their are certain times where you get projects and it gets hectic, but the entire course schedule is available from the start.
If you just take the time to do her quizzes, youll be fine. Dont forget to do discussion boards on time! Easy, easy A! Her class was an easy A, she gives PLENTY of time to finish work before end of semester. Def recommend!
So easy to get an A in this class. There are lots of assignments and the material is very interesting in several different formats. Plenty of extra credit is given. If you get anything lower than an A, you didn't try. Professor Reid gives great feedback, is responsive and professional. Great class!
Make sure to study the syllabus and understand how things are graded in this course. This class keeps you busy, but it's definitely manageable.
It's an online class, but Dr. Reid clearly states assignments and due dates well in advance. She also sends weekly email reminders and gives extra credit for turning in assignments early. The required reading is also really interesting!
Jill Reid's courses are extremely easy. Most of the answers can be found online or for purchase by other students. But Jill Reid is not a very nice person. She lacks sympathy and compassion which makes her a terrible professor. She refuses to work with you if you are sick, if you have a death in the family, or any other extreme circumstances.
Sweet lady. LOTS of busy work! I recommend you get at minimum 3 weeks ahead of the reflected schedule. It makes a HUGE difference. The class itself isn't hard, just very time consuming. Honor reports are a pain, but that's how you get your grade. Easy A. Thanks Reid!
This class was a lot of busy work and most assignments took a couple hours to complete. There is A LOT of reading. Very clear guidelines ab what she wants you to do. Quizzes weren't counted as late if they were done late, which was nice. Basically the same stuff every week- discussion post, quizzes, & projects just ab different topics each week.
Although this an online course, she is super sweet. This course is extremely hard and you will have tons of assignments but you will learn a lot. She answers emails within 24 hours. Textbook and books are needed, you will not pass without them.
NUTRITION IS AN ONLINE CLASS, WHY IS THERE SO MUCH WORK? Honestly, homegirl Jill needs to chill because there were assignments or projects or quizzes due EVERY SINGLE WEEK. But the gag is, some of them were only worth 10 points! All that work for only 10 points? I finished with an 89.9 and she refused to round it up, she's cancelled.
There may be a lot of readings/videos, however, there is no penalty for late work, except for discussions and final exam. All quizzes are open book. There are also bonus points for every assignment you turn in before the due date. It's self-paced (easily finish early), straight forward in grading, and the professor responds emails quickly.
This class isn't hard in terms of material but she assigns so much reading and busy work, its ridiculous. You have 3 chapter books and 1 txtbk that you read all at the same time, I got a B because I was too lazy to do all that reading. You have to do the readings to do well on the quizzes and tests. I recommend an ebook to search key terms.
This class has so much work to do, but it is quite manageable. I recommend staying ahead to receive extra credit. The textbook is necessary and so are the books that you are required to buy. The actual assignments aren't too hard; they just take a lot of time. I hardly talked to Reid, but her class was pretty easy.
A TON of reading, (required) 2 full books and the entire textbook. Unit quizzes due every 2 weeks, 4-6 of them based on readings, videos, and textbook, a discussion board for a chapter of one of the books every week. Everything's laid out, she's really nice and responds fast. I had 17 credit hrs, take it with fewer. Not impossible but keep up w/ it
You have quizzes or a discussion due every week which aren't very stressful. You do need all the books for the quizzes. She gives 2 bonus points for doing quizzes on time and you just watch a lot of TedTalks. The class is well spread out and I actually enjoyed the class, some of the videos are very interesting. 10/10.
READ THE SYLLABUS! She has very strict policies and deadlines that you will need to adhere to, ignorance is not an excuse. Required reading included 2 novels and a textbook. I recommend the online versions so you can search key words and save time. There are discussions and comments due each week and about 5-6 quizzes due every two weeks.
There are so many assignments for this class. Like you will never be bored. But, she's a nice woman and responds to emails and will give you points back for debating a question. Overall fine, I just hate biology.
If you're having second thoughts on whether or not to take this professor because everyone else is saying that you do a lot of homework, just ignore them. And I am talking about this class only, BIO217. This is an online course so of course there is a lot to do, but I guarentee you that they are all easy work.
Specifically for BIOL217: Jill is an extremely organized prof, sending out weekly emails with updates, and providing perfectly clear grading criteria for each assignment. There are PLENTY of extra credit opportunities, grades are ALWAYS available & up to date, and the assignments aren't horrible- just busy work.
This course is so unnecessary. It requires so much work for absolutely no reason. You definitely don't any of the books she requires. Literally everything is online.
Jill Reid doesn't care about her students. There is so much homework even for an online class, and she asks you to buy FOUR books for this class and said that if you can't afford it then you shouldn't be in college.
Her organization is on point. However, there was an insane amount of work, readings, and required videos each week. She says if you can't afford the 4 books she requires you shouldn't be taking the course. Additionally, everything we were reading and watching was OLD, sometimes 15 year old information. which for nutrition I feel should be current.
Overall an easy class just keep up with the unnecessary amount of assignments. Need the textbook as well as two other books for the discussion posts and quizzes. Everything is laid out clearly it's just a lot of assignments but they're easy and you get extra credit for turning them in early.
This class is not bad at all. The work is not difficult and not as much as its made out to be-its an online class and you have to make up lecture time somehow. most things seem to be busy work but I took a lot away from the course. Quizzes, tests, and assignments were easy. Dr. Reid was always accessible and understanding, great late work policy!
Jill Reid belittled me when I asked her questions about assignments and made me feel stupid for asking her questions especially since shes so crazy about stuff. She gives an enormous amount of work for an online class, that if you fall behind in you will fail and be stressed out. I do not mind the topic but I DO NOT like Reid! Absolute worst woman!
This is her citizen Science Class. Easy and fun Class. Each week is a field trip then write a journal entry. Easy A if you keep up with the simple assignments. 1 project due at end (alone or in group). I had fun and learned a lot. You can tell this is what professor Reid really enjoys and thus make the class enjoyable.
There are a lot of assignments for this class, but they aren't hard. There are four required text books, three of them you can find the pdf files online for free. She has a very generous late policy, and offers extra credit. No exams except a final and its optional. Don't take this class if your're already taking a lot of credits.
I had Jill for an online biology class. The schedule was really clear. One week we had a discussion board due along with 3 comments on others posts. The next week would be quizzes. Some answers are on Quizlet but for the most part this is an easy class just a lot of work. As long as you don't get behind you're fine.
Prof. Reid is great! Because it is online, she assigns two actual books and the textbook to read along with numerous articles and videos. Projects and discussions can be time-intensive. Quizzes and exam are all open-book but focus on pretty specific information. Easy A class as long as you keep up with the assignments.
Professor Reid was really nice for an online teacher, very accessible. She always replied to my emails the day of. I took the class as a prenursing requirement & to be honest, as long as you keep up with the work & READ THE TEXTBOOK, you should be able to finish off with a decent grade. There is a LOT to do. She gives extra credit points at least.
This class is online and very easy to pass. You usually have 1 assignment each week. She is always available via email. I highly recommend taking this class.
This is an ideal online class. She set it up so well. Yes, it seems like a lot of work. 6 assignments due every 2 weeks. But if you manage your time well, you will be fine. I ended up finishing a month early. (You can pretty much more at your own pace, as far as working ahead) many answers can be found on google or quizlet. Get the online text!
You have five to six quizzes due each week based on the textbook, two other books, and videos/ted talks she links. I never actually read (briefly skimmed the book used for discussions) and googled everything and ended up getting a B. Weekly discussions and comments are easy and take 30ish minutes each. Good online class.
Yeah, even though there's so much stuff to do, this class is really easy. It's just a lot of reading and managing your time well.
Honestly, the class is just a lot of work. A lot of busy work. However, it's fairly easy and you can honestly finish it in a week if you're focused and devoted. Just expect to do a bunch of discussion posts, a bunch of quizzes, a few projects, and honor reports where you have to fill this form out to get points for completing everything. Easy A tho
This is class is easy in itself. It isn't a lot of busy work and it requires minimal effort. The one thing I would like to warn about is to try to keep track of the actual points you are getting on everything. You might be getting As, few Bs, maybe one C, but if those As are low, you will be in a tight spot at the end. Try to take them seriously.
With this class you must stay up on your work and read the criteria. Everything is mostly self taught through a textbook and you do quizzes/ discussions as you go, so you dont get that one on one with the Professor. However, grading was different and is not based on your grade but rather the points which is scary if you dont catch on in time.
Class was online before covid, so it's set up well and is very organized. 5 quizzes due every two weeks + discussion post w/ 3 replies due every other week. Everything is points-based, not weight-based. GET ONLINE TEXTBOOK/BOOKS SO YOU CAN FIND QUIZ ANSWERS EASILY! No real interaction with Prof Reid. Good class overall + easy A if you put in time.
It was pretty easy going, the work was just a bit annoying. Finished with an A.
Worst professor I have ever had. She doesn't teach at all, the entire class is just reading the textbook and taking quizzes that are way too difficult for a professor that refuses to teach. If you have any kind of learning disability DO NOT take this class. I no longer enjoy biology because of this class.
I don't think the professor did a single minute of work for this class. There are not live or recorded lectures, it was all textbook reading and ted talk watching, and all the quizzes were automatically graded by blackboard. It was fine and easy.
I took this course online for my freshman spring semester. No lectures, just one week of quizzes & then one week of discussion, & it alternated like that. There is a lot of homework in this class, but it's really easy to get through if you keep up and do it early. Reid also provides extra credit for each unit, which is awesome! Great class!!
Professor Reid is a great professor. She is more than happy to help out students, and she makes her instructions super clear. Warning: if you are late on more than 3 units of assignments, you will not be able to get an A. So keep up with your work. Also BIO 101 is weirdly harder than Human Biology in the sense that it is less straight forward.
ONLINE ONLY REVIEW! I have never written a post about a professor before but I had to about professor Reid. Her class is easy to get through if you want a lot of homework. She doesn't hold any type of lectures (via. Zoom or recorded). The work is quite easy to get through with the "notes" you take. If you want an easy A w/ lots of hw take her.
This class itself isn't too difficult but the workload can get a little heavy. I tend to fall behind easily and if that's you too then this might not be the best for you. Lots of small extra credit options if you turn things in on time. It's practically a self-taught class.
I hated this class. There was an insane amount of work to do and sometimes if I put 8 plus hours into some of these quizzes I still came out with a C which was very frustrating. I ended up being able to pull out an A but it was hard to do. The course work wasnt hard it was just a lot. Ps the final is extremely easy so dont be afraid to take it.
There's a lotttt of quizzes and discussions every week. They're worth a lot of points but they're not difficult at all. If you manage your time well and don't procrastinate, you'll pass no problem.
This professor assigns a LOT of readings and quizzes. There will be 5-6 assigned readings/videos every other week, and each will have a corresponding quiz. You pretty much read/watch the same information over and over again all semester -- SUPER repetitive. Lots of discussion boards, too, but they're easy to BS. The final exam is optional.
She is very kind with her students. The one thing I will say is that BIO 101 is harder than BIO 201 for some reason, and her style with her classes can be detrimental if you do not plan your time accordingly. This is especially true during the pandemic. You can only have 3 late units before you cannot get an A. The "attendance" is important.
I really enjoyed this class and Professor Reid! It was a lot of work, but that is to be expected in a college level course. The content was interesting and she assigned interesting projects that were relevant to the unit. I really appreciate that she facilitated so much discussion between peers; this was important as the class was online.
I took the online BIOL 217 course and it was pretty straightforward and easy to use the tools, however, I hate that theres no lectures or zooms. I basically felt like I was teaching myself everything on my own. You literally just read the textbook on your own and take quizzes on your own.
She is very understanding that students have very busy lives and makes sure not to add any stress. She offers a lot of extra credit which can be very tiresome, but it is worth it. The only thing is she does not give feedback on the exams for wrong answers.
Assignments are made clear. Lots of small quick assignments.
She is a legend !!! Her modules are so easy which she allows you to use textbook. She provides a huge amount of extra credits which will definitely boost up your grade easily such as that if you do the practice quizzes on the each of the chapters so that's how you will earn a better grade. Thank you Professor Reid for supporting and care !!!
Professor Reid is so awesome! I took her for BIOL101 and it was completely asynchronous. She sets up the canvas for this class so well and the modules are very easy to use and are set up to ensure that you never miss anything. She is super sweet and accommodating and gives you 1-2 weeks to do each module which is usually a pretty easy to knock out.
The class is pretty easy and straightforward. Nothing too hard to comprehend however, there is a lot of reading and self teaching. It was fine with me but I know some people don’t like that.
I absolutely loved Professor Reid. I took BIOl 101 completely asynchronously, but she allows multiple retakes on quizzes and even exams. The material was very interesting and always kept me engaged. She is great with canvas which makes her modules awesome and easy to use. I highly recommend taking her class.
Mrs. Reid is a beyond great professor. Her online class was set up beautifully and was very organized. She is also very fair and accommodating but do NOT take her kindness for granted. There is so much extra credit within this course as well and I highly recommend you use it if you are struggling. She really cares about her students.
Best Professor I had at VCU man this class was online at your own paste you can RETAKE everything even your exams! She breaks everything down you don't have to buy the text book she provides it for you and you can have so much EXTRA CEDIT!
Took this class asynchronous but it was still pretty easy! Lots of online work but she's very lenient- you just gotta stay on track of things.
Professor Reid is such a sweetheart, Gives you a free textbook version so you don't have to worry about buying anything. For most of the tests, you get 2 attempts and can ask questions. She offers a lot of extra credit and I encourage you to take advantage of it though I will say it is a lot of work for only 5 extra points on your final grade.
Nutrition online was super easy. Professor Reid cares about her students and is always accessible by email. Her class requires good time management skills, but other than that it is almost impossible to do poorly. Her class has no exams, and only open note reading quizzes with no time limit or max number of tries. Loved her!
This is the second class I have taken with professor Reid and both classes were amazing! There is no reason you can't pass her class without at least a B if you just submit the work. She gives plenty of time for late work and allows extra attempts on quizzes if needed. Professor Reid is also easy to get in touch with, and is the most understanding.
I liked Mrs. Reid, she was clear and reasonable with expectations and the online format was easy to follow. The week-to-week schedule was consistent every assignment has a reasonable grace period, but she offers extra credit for completing work on time every week. Definitely be prepared to read as it is an online course but everything is reasonable
This professor has very easy to consume material and assignment. The assignments may become tedious, but opportunities to retake them are available. Lots of extra credit is also offered. Professor is very caring by having very flexible due dates (2 day grace period) and exams were open book and open for a week. Need self discipline though!
Super reasonable workload and opportunities to retake assignments. There's a lot of extra credit offered, but in order to succeed in this class you need time-management and self discipline. Due dates are flexible (2 days). This class is very accessible for disabled students. Transcripts are provided and she makes sure to meet accomodations.
This class was honestly a really easy A. There was an announcement video for each week and she would go over what work was due and how to be successful. She gives tons of extra credit opportunities. You can retake quizzes as many times as you want and there are no tests or a final. If you don't do well in this class then it is on you!
There are modules every single week, I will say that it does get repetitive, but if you get behind that's okay because you would have four breaks which is a free week to do whatever you want, so you can easily catch up. She's also a great teacher and very understanding, so if you email her, she will answer quickly. Great class even if I hate bio.
Absolutely take her class! It can seem intimating because it is a lot of work per week but very easy assignments to do. She makes her course impossible to fail because you have to get a certain grade to move on. Plenty extra credit. You can redo quizzes as many times as you want, your grade is based on YOU.
Lots of coursework to do for the week but the way it's delivered is really interesting and engaging. Everything is done on your own including the "group" projects which as a socially awkward introvert was so nice! Didn't interact with her many times, but she seemed helpful and kind in our correspondences.
Super easy class, and she cares a lot about the students' mental health.
Great professor has the best/most organized online class. Self-pace as long as you don't go over the due dates.
This class is amazing. I took 217 online and I don't regret it. She makes everything super organized and accessible. Everything is in modules and you have a 3 day "grace period" after the canvas due date.
She is very nice and caring! There is an extensive amount of homework due every week but other than that her class was great.
Professor Reid was really great. The class itself was very straightforward, there is assignments each week to complete but nothing overwhelming. The professor is always willing to speak outside of class if you need any help, and if the schedule doesn't align, Professor Reid is very easy to speak with and will make sure that you can meet.
Super easy and Ms. Reid was very accessible during reasonable hours of the day. All of the assignments for the semester were mapped out, explained well, and available if you wanted to work ahead. Also, the textbooks were free and online.
Took this as an async class and everything was straight forward. She made weekly videos to tell us all the work we needed to do, and gave us breaks in order to catch up on work or work ahead. Do the work/read the textbook and you'll be fine. Amazing professor and overall a very simple class that is straightforward.
The course was great. Plenty of time for assignments, the option to work ahead a bit, no quizzes or exams, and straightforward assignments. Professor Reid grants a few 1 week breaks throughout the semester with no deadlines, and she's highly responsive to emails. Highly recommend!
I would take this again and any other classes she takes because she gives you unlimited retakes for quizzes to take over. You will need to read a lot and listen to videos when there are video quizzes. Overall, very easy
There is a lot of little assignments but honestly a breeze and a fantastic professor.
shes ok, easy A but lot of work, but just use quizlet you will be fine biggest flaw is she never responds to emails
Honestly this class is an easy A just make sure you turn in you assignments. She gives a lot of chances on the quiz, so if you don't like your grade you can always do it again. She also has a week where no assignment is due "a mental week" definitely needed that. If you have any questions, they have office hours! Super helpful if you're confused.
Professor Reid cares a lot about her classes and it shows by how this course was structured. Weekly assignments due every Wednesday and the Canvas page was very organized. She gives you unlimited attempts on every assignment and also extends due dates so it's literally impossible to fail. She always sent out reminders about due dates too. Take her!
She is very sweet and understanding if you have to turn in things late. The only logical reason to not receive an A in this class is to not turn in assignments before the due date. The textbook is free and every assignment isn't difficult, but try to stay ahead.
Good structured class, STAY ON TOP of assignments and have multiple attempts (use them to get the highest score to your abilities). Gives bonus points for doing course evaluation. Fair with grading. Overall good class and would recommend to others.
This was my second time taking bio101 and Im so glad I registered for her class. This class was so so so easy the assignments were very easy and she was very nice easiest A I've ever received. Just make sure you do the work and your'e all set its literally that simple her assignments are very straight forward.
Nutrition was overall a pretty easy class. There is a lot of reading involved but the textbook is free. There is a good amount of work handed out each week but as long as you manage your time you should be fine. The one time I did have to email Ms. Reid she was very rude and condescending. However, you don't ever have to talk to her.
Took asynchronous but very organized and accessible. Few assignments each week based on chapters from the two textbooks. All info can be found there and clearly layed out. Super nice and was always fast to answer questions or concerns. Super easygoing, highly recommend.
If your looking for a online class that can be simple, I would take her. It is a lot of online work during the course, but you can a get it done in couple days and she gives you a break! Beware of alot of work but very duable
Professor Reid is an amazing and flexible teacher. All the "quizzes" are on Canvas and relatively short - they also have unlimited time and attempts. Her Biology 101 class manages to be engaging despite being an online asynchronous class, and I intend to take her for Human Bio.
multiple quizzes and writing assignments, but quizzes are untimed with unlimited attempts and are fairly easy. The textbook is free and there's no final exam. Everyone should be able to get a A in this class, just make sure to set time aside to get the quizzes done! also she allows a 3 day grace period so you can still turn in assignments!
Genuinely the LEAST stressful class I have ever taken. Prof. Reid is a very caring person & her policies are VERY generous to students. Every graded thing is untimed and has unlimited attempts. There are many breaks during the course when nothing is due. The topics are interesting & you do feel like you have learned a lot after the course.
she's great!! definitely an easy A as long as you do the little quizzes or the Peerceptiv assignments. Super kind and extremely generous the only way to fail this class is to literally never turn in a single assignment. She accepts late work and is also understanding and replies to emails. Definitely a good class!
the easiest bio class you can sign up for. took her for biol101 and biol201 and all i can say is im grateful for how she organizes her class. no exams, unlimited retakes on assignments, easy to follow modules, and actually interesting content. so glad i got to take my biologies with her :)
Easiest class you'll ever take!! Almost all the assignments have unlimited attempts so you can easily get the grade you want. Honestly, not that time consuming either. I probably only worked on this class for 2 hours in the entire week. Definitely recommend her!!
there are a chunk of assignments every week and if you have a lot of other classes it gets easy to fall behind but the work isn't hard at all. You could probably finish each weeks worth of assignments in an 2hrs maybe less! super easy class she gives plenty of time for late assignments with no penalty
Ms. Reid's BIOL 101 has a heavy workload, but is very straightforward and assignments were not too difficult. Overall, she is easy to contact and gives great feedback on assignments. I will be taking her again for BIOL 201.
I will never understand how Dr. Reid only has a 3.7 y'all review bombed her or something cause she is my goat.
I loved this class she makes it so easy to do well and sooo organized. take this class
This course was reading and work heavy, but it was do-able. I would say do everything on time and early if possible. Don't slack on the peerceptivs, but overall, this class was very easy and straight to the point.
This was an online course, so I don't really know the professor. Her canvas page was organized and easy to understand, though the content was boring. Homework assignments felt unnecessary and bored me to death. This was an easy course, but I didn't learn anything.
Her online class was pretty simple. Some of the assignment's were tedious but it was nothing crazy.
Nutrition was a really easy class. Dr. Reid has been teaching online classes for a long time and it shows in the coursework. Everything is laid out nicely and was very easy.
Professor Reid is an absolute gem of a professor. Weekly assignments due every week and the Canvas page was very organized. She gives you unlimited attempts on every assignment and also extends due dates so it's literally impossible to fail. She always sent out reminders about due dates too. No exams either! Please take her!!
This class is completely asynchronous, so as long as you do all your work by the due date, you'll do fine. There is a textbook, but it's free. The only annoying thing is the papers/assignments you have to write and then grade other students' work instead of her grading it.
Took her class online. Everything seemed very straightforward. She was very communicative and overall seemed very kind the little I interacted with her. Gives easy extra credit at the end of every unit.
I took BIOL-101 online. Clear grading system, breaks between some modules, and they're easy to follow. As of Fall 2025, you're mostly graded on quizzes which you're able to retake any time of the week until last submission is due. You can still pass without reading the textbook as my friends have told me. Quiz heavy, but you get a week to due them.
Took online. Assignments are fairly straightforward and not super difficult. She is very helpful and easy to reach. Would absolutely recommend if you're looking to knock out a science gen-ed.
Prof. Reid is clearly a caring professor who has a well-structured online class with unlimited retakes on assignments. If you put in the slightest effort, you will excel in this class. However, she doesn't have any original content, so aside from friendly announcements I didn't really get to know Prof. Reid. This class checks the prerequisite box.
