She is a good teacher, she taught very well. She was very helpful, if you had any questions she was easy to get a hold and right there to answer them. Overall, good teacher.
Great teacher, you learn a lot, is always willing to go the extra mile to help you, does have high expectations so be prepared to put some effort into this class, but it is worth it.
She is a great teacher and a lot of fun but you definately have to do a lot of work! There is no slacking!

Dr. Rupert is great, but she really wants your best. Be perpared to work hard and actully improve your writing skills. All WR 121 classes now have a timed essay final which is graded by randomly slected writing instructors, so be warned!
Jill is the best. She is an incredible teacher. She is passionate about what she is teaching and is very good at it. She really wants you to give your best and learn. She was very willing to help you if you had questions. Awesome teacher!
Jill was the first writing teacher that not only made this dry, boring material tolerable, but she auctually made it fun. She does have high expectations, and makes you EARN your grade, but she will do whatever she can to help you, if you are willing to help yourself. She also definately earns a "hot" rating- at least "from this writer".

Her lectures seemed geared toward freshmen in high school. There's a lot of online stuff in her class and none of it was graded until the end. If you want to learn, pick another teacher, but if you want to coast, this one is great.
Smart. Knows her stuff. IMHO always ina hurry. If you can read and write at a decent level, class is not hard at all. If her son is in her office and he is there a lot, make a new appointment. She will have a hard time paying attention to you. Rarely in office in my experience, email instead.
Took it on-line.... very unorganized and scattered. I am still waiting to have my test graded from Jan 18… it’s March 7!!!! She stated right in the syllabus if you don't do one thing, you won't pass.
Don't listen to that last comment. Jill is extremely organized for as much responsibility as she has on campus. Her feedback on my essays were always layed out nicely and very helpful. She was always prepared, and we had some very cool class discussions about our readings in the text. I learned a LOT about argument. Great instructor.
Jill is good in the classroom and one on one if you can catch her in her office / she is hard to reach. She will eventually email you. She's late sometimes (my pet peeve) and a little flaky but I like her.
I took Professor Ruperts Class online. What a dream of a class. Loved every minute. The last essay, which is a revision, caught me off guard but that was my fault for not carefully reading the syllibus. She gives plenty of time and chances. I learned a lot and loved every minute of it. Easy & Fun
Professor Rupert's online class coupled with the the online writing center was the best experiance I have had at CCC. Fun and up beat. I learn a lot and felt great about it. I did not like writing till I hit the books in this PHD's class. One in a millon!
I have previously tried to take this class about 4 times. I always dropped it because I was bored out of my mind. Dr. Rupert chose books that I actually enjoyed reading and created a focus to provide a little something extra for us to learn about. It is very obvious that she has a genuine interest in the success of her students.
Jill is an amazing teacher and I feel grateful that I had the opportunity to learn from her.
I took this class online. She is a great instructor, but beware that this is a very time consuming class! There are 4 different books/resources used. You must provide peer review on every assignment. There are quizzes due along with writing projects. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on homework which is due twice a week. Do the work, get an
Jill is challenging, but you know what to expect from her (online course that is). You do spend a lot of time on homework, but you will get out what you put in. Regardless of my grade, I highly respect her teaching style.
Learned a lot. Good lectures, comments. Not easy but fair. A good teacher that I will (and am) take again.
VERY HARD!
Jill is a great teacher and knows what shes talking about! It is possible to get an A if you are willing to work hard. There is a lot of extra work such as reading books and doing assignments. She does offer several extra credit options and gives one late paper option. If you are willing to work hard you will love her and learn a ton!!
This instructor was horrible. the class that i went in for was WR 121, but instead she taught WR 122 under the 121 guise. if you value your GPA never take this teacher.
Awesome teacher, she is very nice and very helpful. She really does want you to succed, but BEWARE there is a TON of homework. If you are willing to work hard, its a great class. Although I've been through 121 and 122 and she taught me more about 122 then my own 122 teacher did. She does seem to stretch the limit with the material. But overall A+
AVOID. TONS of homework. TWO books to read. Will bore you to death by reading the entire syllabus. I should've dropped when I had the chance. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Be warned. She has a doctorate in something so she lectures like its the word of god. After sitting in her lectures for two hours I feel that I have forgotten more knowledge than any instructor has ever put into my head. Tons and tons of homework for a small percentage of your grade, and there are a million other little points to forget. avoid
Horrible online class. Another improperly structured class jam packed with so much homework and discussion there's no time to read or appreciate the literature. 60% of your grade depends on discussion questions and commenting on other peers' comments. I'm an English major and an avid reader and could barely keep up on reading or comments. Avoid.
I wish someone would have warned me! Horrible class. Spent more time on outside activities and completely overloaded with assignments some not really relevant to class. Taking her class will burn you out entirely, too much useless crap I may have to take it over with someone else. I also had to take a break and have not taken 122 yet because of it.
This instructor always had three differnt assignments going at once.some posted on line some posted in class. unclear confusing, intense amount of work.complicated sylybus to follow.
not a hard class, just do your work and do a decent job.. there is quite a bit of reading hw. the two books are easy reading however and isnt really that bad. offers alot of extra credit and even accepted my friends late final paper. very nice professor and knows what shes doing
I thought Jill was an Amazing teacher. You need stay up on homework and never miss a class and an A in this class is easy. Jill gives the best feed back on your writing. Your writing skills will improve so much!!! Yes alot of homework!! However its worth it to learn so much.
If you dont have the time or dedication, this class isn't for you. Some of the stories and poems are boring, however, the class is challenging. Make sure you read EVERYTHING posted by Dr. Rupert, print what you can. This will help and she is very helpful, just ask. Let her know beforehand of any issues.
Tough but fair. Took class online and utilized office hours frequently for clarification.
There is a significant amount of reading and discussion for each learning module. Jill provides good feedback on working drafts of essays, but it takes quite a while for the final drafts to be graded. This course does demand a large time investment, so be prepared to spend the time necessary to read the material and respond in discussion.
I liked this teacher. She makes you do a lot of work but her expectations are crystal clear and it was an easy A. Take advantage of the tools she gives you and meet your deadlines.
This teacher had a difficult to read lesson plan and overloads you with work that you cannot possibly finish all of on time while maintaining a real world life.
Jill was a great teacher! She does give you lots of home-work that is due two times a week, but if you read and do the discussion you will get A.
She assigned a ton of homework, I was always working on at least two things at once. This class was very time consuming and I didn't like how long it took to get feedback from assignments. It took a month to grade the first essay. She was a hard grader too. I felt I did good work and received a grade I wasn't prepared for.
This professor was a difficult one. She assigns a ton of homework with little time to do it all. She is a very tough grader. I have never had any issues with writing, yet this term I was receiving not the best grades. I was frustrated, and rushed the whole term, I will not take ever again.
I am taking this class online. I've turned in countless assignments and have not received one back graded, so no feedback I could be making huge mistakes & being docked points. In the beginning things went well now I have assignments due (per syllabus) yet she won't open the modules to know what's required with just a few days before they are due
The beginning of the term was fine, a lot of work but if you put in the work it was doable. Throughout the term she got wildly less organized, assigned much more work, and gave less instruction. She is a tough grader, and doesn't really give much lee-way. Also, doesn't respond to email.
shes a very tough grader. She will throw a lot of homework on you due every three days; sometimes it was so hard to keep up w her assignments. She takes a long time to grade papers. She isnt well w asnwering emails. Towards the end of the class things got easier and the class work just focused on the research argument paper. it is a challenge
She was decent, a really tough grader, first time in my life that I've failed a class and I was taking college classes in high school. I would've had to take only this class for the entire term to pass but I was taking 14 credits for pre-nursing.
Dr. Rupert, she uses her title to her advantage and places herself upon a pedestal. I would advise not taking her unless you can conform to the way she wants things, you have no wiggle room. Gives dreadful feedback on papers, and she lectures the entire class.
Writing was a passion before I met this "Dr." By far the worst professor I have uncounted on the Chemeketa Campus. She does not give clear feedback on papers. Lectures the entire class, no room for creativity, she chooses the topics you write about. Do not challenge her topics or the way she thinks, you will see yourself fail because of it.
Tough grader; first time I received a C after hours of hard work, BUT she pushes you to become a better writer than most. Easy-A? Don't take this professor. Want to be the best writer? Take the class, care about your work and listen to her because it's tough as hell but only because she has college-level expectations.
I use skills from WR 121 in nearly every class. There's a ton of reading and writing, but that's expected. The material is interesting and grading criteria is clear. If you put in effort and stay on top of essays, you'll get an A. It's not a terribly difficult course, but you will need to set aside time for research and writing. Highly recommended.
Jill Rupert is honestly the best professor I've ever had. She is professional, fair, passionate, and explains things very clearly. She really strives to be of maximum help to you and make sure you succeed. She *does* have high expectations but if you keep up with your work, you'll have no problem. I cannot speak highly enough of her. So impressed.
This was personally my favorite teacher. As long as you are willing to ask questions, she will help you with anything. We are required to have two ten minute meetings with her about the papers and class and in those moments she can help you with the hardest part of your paper: a good, specific thesis. I'm honestly going to go to her for everything.
She will give you so much work it's crazy. I felt so overwhelmed and usually love writing classes but this one was stressful and overloaded with work that won't make you learn. It honestly felt so pointless, don't get this professor.
If you dont do things just the way she wants you fail and she dosent like it when you ask questions.
I usually love writing classes but she is tough. Unless you have a lot of extra time, I would not recommend taking her class. So much work and two different due dates a week and you don't get your work in advance.
My favorite writing teacher by far! She's a tough grader, yes, but she also wants you to pass. She's very helpful and typically responds to emails quickly. It may seem like she gives a lot of homework, but it's all doable. I hadn't taken a writing class in years before her and did well.
She was very tough. gave way too much homework and not enough time to finish homework.
Jill is an amazing professor who cares about her students. She is easily accessible and promptly responds to any messages or emails. You will write four papers, but there are multiple opportunities to get her feedback, which makes it possible to get a good grade on all of them.
This professor was less than helpful. Her feedback was minimal at best. She seemed more annoyed with questions than anything else, and would give short, unhelpful answers. She expected a lot as far as work was concerned, but seemed to put out little effort herself to be an invested instructor. What I learned, I had to seek out on my own. Awful.
Writing was never my strongest subject. Jill does expect a good amount of work between the essays, reading, and smaller assignments. She does have them all clearly spaced out for you and if you can keep up on the reading, the assignments are pretty easy. She isn't super flexible with due dates, but she definitely works offers help if you need it.
Insightful class discussions
Absolutely terrible. Made the class read a book that didn't have a thing to do with the subject matter of the class, didn't base any major assignments around the book. In the online class there is a lot of painfully redundant class "participation." Takes forever to grade anything, doesn't respond to emails. Overall, a huge waste of time. Avoid.
Jill is one of my favorite professors at Chemeketa thus far. She is very caring and although the work can get a little tedious, if you put your best foot forward, you will receive a good grade.
She was a really easy grader for me. Was an easy class if you showed up and didn't miss assignments.
Jill was one of the best professors I have ever had! If you do all of your work and follow instructions well, you will succeed! I think she genuinely cares about every one of her students' success.
We had 3 major compositions and never got feedback for the previous one before the next one was due, resulting in a poor grade for not understanding something you didn't know you didn't understand. I am a full time student and this class took up more time than all my other classes combined.
Jill Rupert was one of the most rudest teachers I've had. I DO NOT recommend taking her class.
WR121 Online is intense. Jill pushes you to work hard, research, and write well. If you love writing, take her. She wants to help. But she responds 2-3 days after you e-mail her. She doesn't give the best feedback for rough drafts. And grading can be slow. The last assignment thoroughly teaches research which is helpful.
This class requires quite a bit of reading. There are many small assignments and then three major compositions. As long as you stay on task with due dates and are involved then you can get a good grade in the class. I enjoyed her teaching style and she was up front. The only downside is grading takes her awhile to post feedback.
Jill is great! After taking several other online classes, I realize she is very involved in her online classes which is a huge bonus. She makes sure everything is clear, communicates often. You will learn a lot taking her class, my writing improved a ton. Only reason I did not rate her higher is she does take a long time to post grades & feedback.
I had a great expiernece in her WR 121 online class. She does take a long time to grade work, but she is an amazing professor and helps take your writing to the next level.
DONT DO IT!!! We had to read up to 3 chapters per week, had 2-3 discussions along with commenting on others in her specific ways, and the papers!!! Not to mention the journal entries and the research!!! UHG! I like writing but she made me go bald! She also took weeks to grade papers and gave minimal feed back for missed points.
WARNING: If you are considering taking her class then be prepared to do a tedious amount of homework. She has 2 due dates every week. She DOES NOT grade things/give feedback in a timely manner WHATSOEVER. If you like monuments then take this class but be prepared to write EVERY SINGLE PAPER on a monument. I wish I would have switched to a dif class
Her website on blackboard has WAY TOO MANY LINKS making it very hard to navigate around the assignments and quizzes and everything. If you have any questions, she takes a while to get back to you, sometimes even after the due date of hw when it's too late. She grades too hard but doesn't give clear corrections. Don't take her class. Just don't.
I liked Jill and her style, but talking to my coworkers and friends who have taken her class or are taking the same class but with a different professor, she assigns A LOT of homework. And you have to stay on top of it. No joke. Lots of essays, lots of reading, lots of interaction online or you wont get any credit.
Jill was a pretty good teacher. She laid her lessons out well and was clear about what needed to get done. She does take a while to get back to you and is really bad about grading things on time but her homework wasn't to hard and it was enjoyable. Good choice.
She does a good job of getting the point across.
Dr. Rupert is a kind, respectful, and engaging professor. She is very involved with her classes and provides plenty of feedback, she responds to emails promptly. Her WR121 class can be challenging at times but not impossible. If you do your work on time and put effort into your work, you will find that it is very rewarding.
I think she's too thorough when it comes to specifying the requirements of assignments and it makes getting a straightforward answer to what you're supposed to do a lot harder than it needs to be.
She often assigns the class very convoluted and confusing assignments. I often wondered what was the purpose of doing the assignments. The textbook she had us get were also not very helpful (thank god I got them for free). She also HEAVILY relies on peer review which is annoying and not very helpful considering I'm here to learn from the teacher.
This class is tough and if you want to pass you have to work for it. There are a lot of assignments and you really should work on this class everyday. The professor however is available and does give feedback on all work. I would take a class with her again.
Dr. Jill Rupert was a understanding and kind professor from my experience. She allowed me to be late on multiple assignments, and still gave me full credit. She seems really passionate about her job. Definitely would consider taking her class again.
Dr Rupert is very clear with what she expects and will work with you if something should come up that may disrupt your assignments. Shes incredibly fair, clear, and well organized!
I wasn't a fan and she always seemed like she was trying to be controversial with the topics she was choosing for us to write about, and seemed a bit biased at some points. She was a tough grader, and she wouldn't give you clear feedback if you asked for it. She would say that's not how you learn. I wouldn't take her again because of this. No thnks
Very caring and understanding. Will have you resubmit assignments if they are not correct, but it was also very rewarding! Pay attention to her details and whats expected of you and you'll do great! I struggle with writing and I would recommend her to anyone!
Very straightforward, but there was too much reading for me. There was about 100 pages of reading each week and most of it was hard to comprehend. 1 quiz and 1 discussion each week. 2 response papers and 1 final paper with clear grading criteria (I got 100% on all 3). If you're willing to put in the work, take the class. If not, you'll surely fail.
In the beginning, I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of homework. There's two deadlines every week, except for a few weeks near the end. Professor Rupert tells you over and over -- do the work now, don't leave it until the end. If you follow these instructions, you'll be fine. It's hard but doable. Don't forget to ask questions if you need to!
Dr. Jill Rupert is a great teacher and I really enjoyed taking her class. She is very responsive when students have questions and very clearly states what she expects for writing assignments. I would definitely take one of her classes again.
Dr. Jill Rupert is a great Professor very understanding, willing to work with you as longest you communicate with her, she's well respected and I would take her class again. Although getting ready to read a lot though, in the end, it'll be all worth it and you will learn a lot.
The only complaint I have about this professor is that she's a slow grader. There are 3 fundamentals assignments that essentially teach you how to format your essays. She didn't grade them until near the end of the term. Other than that I enjoyed this class. The material was actually interesting. She is a fair grader and gives good feedback.
Great class was my favorite and I don't like writing, but I learned so much; if you show up, you are guaranteed to pass the class.
Prof is friendly, the class is informational and interesting to learn but If you have a family or a full time job do not take this class because the work load will exhaust you. Discussion boards each week, journals each week, quizzes, group project, final essay, bookclub meetings, and a book you have to read outside of the weekly readings.
I had this teacher last term and literally all you do in this class is homework homework and homework. It is so annoying to get so much homework. It feels like this is the class you only have to care about because of how much homework Jill gives. We had to read a whole book, like this is not a literature class. It was very hard. I do not recommend.
For those especially who work, you will regret taking her class because of how much homework Jill Rupert assigns. It feels like writing is all you have and is the only thing you have because of how much homework is given, I barely have time to do my other assignments. I would not recommend.
For those who work especially should not get her for sure. She explains everything very well, but you have to do workshops every week, read a whole book, do quizzes every week, and more other things. It is sooo much and you are overloaded with homework. This class is very hard. I would not recommend! I got a lot of good grades but is hard!!
Guys do not get Jill. She assigns so much homework. Like it is not necessary. She is also a literature professor and thinks that her WRITING class has to read two books also.
She is friendly and helpful when you reach out. The class is interesting with lots of contemporary reading. It is not hard but a lot like A LOT of weekly assignments. Make sure you follow the grading criteria closely, answer elaborately and you will be okay. Make sure you don't have a full schedule when taking it because it is time consuming.
Very very sweet professor and is honestly super chill when it comes to grading. Gives very good feedback and would 100% take her again.
This class is a nightmare. The teacher assigns so much homework that it feels like a full-time job. Every time you finish one assignment, there's another one waiting. It's impossible to keep up, and there's no time to actually learn anything because you're too busy drowning in work. Avoid this class if you value sleep, sanity, or free time. TOUGH!
This class has lost of homework and a LOT of reading, but Jill is really relaxed when it comes to due dates. One of the nicest professors I've ever had. Great communication and good helping you understand things if you are lost. This was one of my favorite classes so far. I wish I could take her again, but in person. Take her if you get the chance.
Jill was a nice professor and very kind but she overloads us with homework. There was just too much of it. Especially of you work or are a parent, I would not recommend taking her because it will be very difficult.
