Dr. Cohen is an amazing teacher! She may be a bit boring, but at least you will understand the material! Book isn't used much...just buy the study guide and listen to her lectures, and you'll do fine. Her tests are only multiple choice. I definitely recommend her!

Just buy the study guide. She makes powerpoint presentations that are word-for-word exact with the study guide. She doesn't take roll after the third week, and she tells you the exact dates of the exams, set in stone. I suggest you just read the study guide and show up on the days of the exams.
Dr. Cohen is direct and straight to the point. Her class isn't particularly difficult, but she doesn't encouage open discussion or in-class questions. She speaks very softly, so you'll have to sit up front to really hear her. I reccomend her.

worst class i've ever taken. No one shows up to class except on exam days. Boring lectures, doesn't take questions or want discussions in class. Irritating in her composure, not suited for a teaching career. Pretty easy class if you read the book. Difficult class to engage in, very dry class.
Horrible class. Aweful teacher. Refused to do honors contacts, doesn't give back makeups, don't know where you stand in the class. Completely unapprochable. Doesn't care about teaching or the class. No one ever showed up except on test days. Do yourself a favor take CD1 instead (same course credit)

Her class isn't easy, but it's not hard. The materical is straight from the book mostly and her exams are kinda hard. She is kind if werid, like random outbursts but a good teacher...?!

If you want a good grade, read ahead of time and understand the concepts thoroughly. Her class is plain, dull, boring since she just explains the concepts as if she's reading from the book. She has good examples sometimes. If you read ahead, use her lectures to strengthen your knowledge of psychology. if you don't read ahead, good luck.

She's a nice woman, but she's also the most boring teacher I've ever encountered. She teaches the class 100% from the supplements that come with the textbook, so there's basically no point in even showing up to class. Everything is curved, so you can get a passing grade without doing any work. Don't expect to learn a whole lot from her, though.
I have *never* in my left met such a boring teacher! The upside is, I've also never had an easioer class. Read the book and you'll be fine! The test material comes straight from the text so you never even have to show up to class.
thorough describes her very well. she is very thorough in everything she does, to the point that you will get bored. attendance is not a requirement in her mind. a modest amount of studying and paying attention will get you through the class with a passing grade. put in some effort and walk away with an A.

shes the one who needs to go to a psychologist! she is extremely boring and you just cant wait to take her 24 minute breack. she does not answer your questions and pretends she does by talking about something else. not recommneded! do not take her you will regret it if you do!
she is mean and rude and tells people with special needs that they are intellectually inferior and do not belong in college. for example if someone can not see the projected images on the board with all of the lights on she tells them to listen instead. do not take this teacher she doesn't belong in a classroom.

I lent it to someone else in the class who couldn't afford the book. I bought the study guide and took notes from it and took the sample tests..I got an A.

She is a unique teacher. She knows Psych material well, but she does not know how to teach. If you want to get an A - study book, terminology. There is no need to come to a lecture. She uses powerpoint,but test is strictly made from book.Your participation and presence in the class does not make a difference in grading.

one of my favorite teachers. if you don't take class seriously then you will fail, correct. but honestly if you don't want to come to class why even bother going to school? i liked her alot and the class was very easy. she is different but it's refreshing compared to other teachers that are waaaay worse.
Ill admit shes definately different but this had to be one of the easiest classes i have ever taken. Shes a very sweet lady and her tests are just the review questions she asks in class! I would definately recommend her if u want an easy A!!!!
She is very knowledgeable and has a nice personality. Her tests are the easiest exams I've ever taken. Tests include mostly the review questions she goes over in class. There is a paper which is easy, too. If you want an A, I recommend this professor. And she DOES encourage students to share their opinions. I just love her.

Interesting subject, and very easy class. Took her for winter session this past January. She didn't care much for attendance - as long as you showed up for tests and made a good grade you'll get an A. Uses power point for lectures, but all you really need is to study the book at home.
Professor Jill Cohen is the most subdued and low key person I have ever met. She seems repressed even. She is very nice, but she seems to need a moment to compose herself no matter what question you ask. She seemed to break out of her shell a bit later in the semester, but even during her emotional flashes, there is a notable lack of enthusiasm.
Lectures consist of slides that are pretty much an exact replica of the text book. Pretty much, all you have to do is read the book, show up on test days, and you'll pass with flying colors.
This was by far the worst professor I have ever had. You can't hear her speak, she doesn't teach, and when you ask her a question she just looks at you. I had her for child development and critical thinking and made A's in both bc I didn't go to class AT ALL and just read the chapters. She's very easy, but you learn absolutely nothing!!!
She's okay...She's speaks ridiculously quiet! If you by the study guide that goes with the book and study that for the tests you will be okay. When you ask a question she takes a long breath and then answers, but doesn't, feels a bit akward to ask a question. There is a paper but it can be on a topic of your choice. Not to bad.Good Luck...!
The class is easy. The first half of class, she would have the class go the white board and fill in answers to questions that she wrote. Advice: write the questions and answers down-they will be on the test. The second half of class, she gave out printed copies of all notes and questions. Advice-go to class to get notes and questions. The class is easy, all tests are 50 multiple choice questions, including the cumulative final and you write a 7 page research paper. You read all 15 chapters of the book. :-( Cohen is impossible, she is very dull and classes seem like they never end. If you can tolerate her, you'll get a good grade because it's easy and she's an easy grader.

dont even think about taking a class with her..in each chapter there is at least 40 key terms..and she only explains like 4 keyterms from each chapter..which means that u have to read the whole book by urself and memorize them. and out of 50 questions in each multiple choice test u can only have 5 wrongs to be able to get an A

Class was easy. Tests were easy. But jeez, the class was boring. It's clear she knows the material, but isn't very skilled at getting it across to the students. Talks incredibly low and is often difficult to hear. Doesn't try very hard to make it interesting or appealing to students. I hardly went, but I read the book & pulled an A.
Class was easy. Study a little and review the Powerpoint slides w/the question handouts, you'll do fine. She talks softly and is hard to hear. I don't think she knows the stuff very well b/c she gives blank stares whenever she's asked a thought provoking question. She'll dance around your question and then completely avoid answering it.
OMG!!! I would rather be asleep! Once you get the handout you can leave! There is no reason for you to stay! Although after every handout she gives a practice quiz which sometimes help but TAKE ANOTHER CLASS... your wasting you time
I thought there was something wrong with her. She is very awkward and seems uncomfortable being asked questions or doing anything other than reading slides. A student told her their wallet had been stolen and she just stared and went back to teaching. The next day, she got angry when the campus police "interrupted" to ask about the incident.

She's not as bad as some of the comments on here. She is soft spoken but you can hear her. She's very articulate and seems that she knows most of the stuff. Although, some of the questions were a bit too difficult to answer, she tried her best.
I've only been to the class 2, but I agree with so many things here. Class is slow-paced,voice is low, and something I've noticed the most how SHE SEEMS BOTHERED WHEN SOMEONE ASKS HER A QUESTION. The weirdest thing. Like she tries to play it off. So, if you're really interested in psychology, avoid it. I'm there just for the grade
Cohen is vey cool class, come if you like if not don't come to class come on test day. talk on the cell phone doing class she dosen't care at all. Love the class it feel like a laid back party.
Oh god, she's sooooo weird. She has some serious issues with volume. She seems uncomfortable with questions. She gives the weirdest most unnecessary examples. That being said, she's extremely easy. take this class if you want an easy A, but i suggest coming the first week of class then after just go the class before a midterm and during, DONT BUY THE BOOK! Speaks very soft.I came to class like the first week & on days with an exam & I got a B... If I studied I could have gotten an A. It's really easy but there is no motivation to show up or read the book. I think she might have social anxiety because she doesnt really make eye contact & she seems uncompfortable when you talk to her. BORING!
Cohen is extremely dull in her explanations, and very soft spoken. You need to sit at the front of the class if you want to hear a word that she says. Psychology is interesting, but she makes it impossible to focus. Don't bother asking or answering questions, unless you would like her to respond with a blank stare.

Only teaches one perspective; if you answer a question and she explains it and her explanation doesn't make sense or you don't understand it, she'll just keep repeating what she said until you stop asking. Test questions are either trivial, were discussed maybe once, or have (e.g.) two answers where one word is switched around to make one wrong.
I took this as an online course and it was pretty easy. Each week you just go through the powerpoint and one chapter of reading. There are 4 exams (the final is not cumulative) and one paper. For the most part, if you study the lecture notes, you should do fine on the exam but there are a couple questions that will from from the book.
Took the online course. She was very responsive, available and organized. Lecture notes along with other supplemental materials that were provided enhanced the subject matter and exams were very doable provided that you studied notes and read the chapters. She was very encouraging and helpful with any and all questions. I would take her again.
currently enrolled in her psych 1 class and she is really nice and helpful, she wants you to do good in class. buy the study guide and USE IT!!! it really helps..... hopefully i actually get the A!!
Doesn't seem to know what the hell she's doing. Reviews the most inane, simplistic concepts that you'll frequently consider just getting up and leaving. She's an easy A, but I didn't get one because I screwed up on a midterm. My bad on that one.
Cohen is one of those professors that expects you to do your work, understand it and ask questions if you need to. She'll give reminders to get stuff done but she isn't going to babysit you through it. With that said, she's a fair enough teacher. I wouldn't say she is terrible like all the reviews are mentioning.
She is very willing to help. She does not assign any homework other than a large research paper. YOU must study and buy the workbook and textbook if you want an A. If you spend enough time you'll get a good grade. It's definitely not an easy A compared to other psych classes
Avoid at all costs!! I am a 4.0 student and this teacher is the worst I have ever had in my entire life. If you must take this class with this teacher, I suggest skipping class once and a while for your sanity. She does about 10-20 mins of content a class and fills the rest with boredom and tangents about Bob Dylan and class questions. The worst!

She's really nice but she was very quiet and the AC or outside noises would block her lectures sometimes. It's a pretty easy class, I skipped a lotbut still managed to get a B. I missed a few tests but she let me make them up after I finished my final. Hardly used her book, some of her notes helped for the tests. I got by with common sense mostly.
She's REALLY nice and will do all she can to let you pass. She was VERY quiet and the AC would block her lectures a bit. It's a pretty easy class. I missed class (due to medical reasons) and still managed to get a B. Missed a few tests? She lets you make them up during the semester or after the final. The book is a MUST for statistics and theories.
Fantastic Teacher! Very Clear and thoughtful. Very Nice and her tone for the class in superb. Short term Class at College of the canyons, she made everything fly by. Repeats things on purpose so that you remember terms. Very organized and likeable. They need to give her more advanced psychology classes so I can take her again. Extra credit is there
As everyone before me has said, she has no voice. Just skip class and read the book and you will do better than if you went to class. She wastes class time BEGGING for volunteers to read from the book. If nobody raises their hand she just keeps saying "are there any volunteers?" Someone please fire this woman she is not qualified to teach adults

I was taking Dr. Cohen and I had to drop the class. She was terrible at communicating back with me regarding questions I had about grades. In addition to that I knew she had read it because right after she would send out her showcasing student work message. However she would encourage questions yet never respond or would give an awkward response.

I've loved every professor I've had at Pierce until I took Cohen. She reads every single word in a low, monotone voice that is on her powerpoints, which are on Moodle. She gives no value or interest in what she's teaching and it affects the students and their grades. I would picture hurling myself through the window for excitement. AVOID.
I don't understand all these negative reviews. I have to say she is one of the most sweetest and caring professors I have ever encountered! She responds to emails quickly, her discussions are very direct and simple to understand, she also offers extra credit that has the ability to raise your grade by 1 letter! Easy class, just do all discussions.
Dr Jill Cohen is fantastic teacher, who is organized and give clear and well written structure in syllabus. Show up, do the homework and assignments, you will be fine. Ignore the negative comments because quite clearly they didnt do any homework. She is caring and always there for students if they have questions and give you chances to get grade

Beyond grateful for Professor Cohen, I learned a lot and the interaction she had us do throughout the course was perfect for learning experiences. She gives great feedback and loves to help as well. Get ready to read a lot and every single chapter but totally worth it.

Cohen, really motivated me to stay within the class I wanted to drop by mid-semester because I work full time and have other classes but she reaches out and tells you to keep the work on. The test are easy you just have to read and understand the material. The material is easy and she will let you resubmit if necessary. Take her!
Dr. Cohen was great. Online psych 041. Averaged 1 discussion and assignment per week. Textbook was found online but required to do the work, though the material was very interesting. Gave so many opportunities for makeups and extra credit. Tests were easy, not proctored. Put in the work, its worth it. No excuse for any grade other than an A.
She gives extra credit but you dont really need it because this class really felt so easy. I literally did not have to read a thing, this class was too easy. Her exams were so easy too. For discussion posts all you have to do is write one sentence each for her 5 questions. Easiest thing ever. Lots of homework but really easy and not time consuming
This class was so easy. It seems like there's so much work to do when you open the canvas page but I promise it's not bad at all. She gives a lot of extra credit but honestly you won't even need to do it. Every week is mostly the same setup and the tests are so easy. I'd highly recommend, it's hard not to get an A in this class
Professor Cohen was great. Whenever I reached out to ask questions she responded quickly.This class is not hard as long as you read the chapter lectures every week and also the textbook for extra content. There were 3 midterms and 1 CUMULATIVE final. There were also discussions each week which were not that bad either. You can get an A if you read.

This professor speaks very low and you aren't allowed to take pictures for her notes. She isn't very clear on her instructions in her assignments and takes points off when it isn't what she's looking for. I talked to her multiple times and asked for help but she didn't answer my questions.

This professor was very hard to hear because she talked very low. She also made the tests extremely hard and most of your grade depends on the tests.
Took her online so I didn't have to worry about how quiet she is. Lots of modules (mainly help, just skip past and go straight to assignments). Found book for free online. Assignments are pretty much the same and have clear criteria + examples. 4 exams + cumulative final. Clinical & straightforward. Not too bad, just take her online lol.
