Scala talks very loud and fast. She is nice and always seems exited about what she is teaching. Sometimes she interrupts you because she gets all exited and has to say something. We watch clips from Friends on youtube every class and take notes. Tests are all multiple choice and not hard if you read the textbook. I would recommend her.
Fun teacher, tons of enegry, grades easy on the labs, tests are a little diffuclt, make sure to really study for it! Takes attendance seriously and class goes by fast.
Jill is one of the best instructors I have ever had. She is very support, very non-judgmental, and full of information. I have learned so much for her ... she's fabulous!
She was a new marketing teacher with a big class. She cared. Love her!
Easy class. I got a 100% on the midterm. Gives you a big study guide which is exactly like the test. 1 group project that is easy and fun. Jill Scala is really nice and loves marketing. She plays funny commercials in class somethings. Class vibe is super laid back. Take her!!
Jill is fantastic. She is super helpful and incredibly clear on what she wants done and when. She is majorly friendly and makes everyone feel welcome into her class. I have taken 2 classes with Jill so far and I want to take all she has to offer. One of my favorite professors. TAKE HER CLASSES!
Class is super easy but there were problems. Very unclear on what she wanted done on assignments and how in depth they needed to be. First semester she started using turnitin which she didn't even know the details about the program. A bit disappointing. Like I said, easy class, very unclear teacher.
I'm going to put it like this. You can easily tell this lady tripped, landed, and accidentally fell into teaching. A blind person can tell this is not her real passion. Get a different teacher is possible.
Best teacher ever! Best class I've taken so far! Won't miss a day, because of Jill!
Definitely my favorite class this semester! Jill is very clear as to what she expects from her students, and makes class fun, and gives you real businesses to work with! If you pay attention in class and use the studyguide she provides for the midterm and final, it's an easy A!
Very scatterbrain... constantly changed the syllabus during the semester. Refuses to respond to e-mail and rarely shows up to her own office hours. I should have gotten an A- in the class, but she inputted my grade wrong and I cannot get a hold of her to fix it!!!
I love Jill! She's a great professor and extremely knowledgable when it comes to Sales & Marketing. She is a little scattered, and you can tell her personal life affects her mood while teaching. Other than that, her assignments are straightforward (out of the book) and her tests aren't challenging if you read. Sometimes she even allows notes!
I have taken multiple courses with Jill and have never had a problem. I intentionally enroll in courses of hers now for both online and in lecture for marketing and comm. She's clear, to the point, very friendly and will be there for you if you ask her for any help or are unsure! I recommend her, definitely.
She's very nice, but not the best of professors. The class was constantly being changed, dates are moved too often. Theres a lot of pointless conversation in the class. You watch videos everyday which keeps the class survivable. It's very easy to get a good grade. The midterms are the only difficult part, you should get an A or B. Dont buy the book
Jill is just so nice, she has good lectures and tries har best to be creative! In this class you have a quiz every week, whitch is a bit hard, but you get used to it.
I've had Jill in a couple of classes, and she is one of the best teachers in my opinion. Not only did she help me with her class, she also helped me with other things that made me a better student. If you want a teacher that can help you succeed, she is the one.
Jill is really nice and flexible about her deadlines. If you want an easy A take this class. Just don't be surprised if she's not clear about what she wants. Overall great teacher!
I thoroughly enjoyed her class, even though I had been dreading it because of group projects (general ed requirements!). She is a lovely woman that is enthusiastic about her work, but she is awfully busy and tends to be disorganized. She is a generous grader & the projects are as fun as you want them to be. Deducts points for non-attendance.
Online. Required group discussions & quizzes are easy points but mostly tedious/no value, would prefer to spend the time on the reading & assignments which were lengthy but important. Directions weren't always clear so it took longer to get started just trying to imagine what she wanted, none the less, she's nice, communicative & fair with grading.
Jill is one of the nicest professors i have met so far. I took her class last semester and she is just a sweetheart, she might be all over the place sometimes but who isn't? I loved her and will definitely take her again! and I took her class for GE
Weekly assignments and discussion posts that aren't super hard but take a good amount of time to complete. A lot of the assignments have directions that aren't 100% clear, so it's hard to know what she wants. There was no syllabus uploaded online which is annoying and I've emailed her asking questions more than 5 times and she never responds.
This is a Comm class with group projects, and presentations. Interesting course. Professor Scala tries to make lessons practical, which I like. Fast talker, so be ready to listen, but makes things fun, and integrates the class very effectively. Excellent instructor. I would definitely take her again.
Fairly easy class. Pretty much do everything in groups including the two major projects. She is pretty unorganized and isn't very clear on homework assignments and when they are due. She never mentions it but attendance is a huge chunk of the grade. If you go to class and do all the work youll do well.
FYI - I took this as an online class. This professor is so disorganized it is a joke! Her assignments are not clearly labeled with directions and she seems to be lost the entire semester. There is nothing wrong with the course material or class I just really dislike Jill as a teacher. She makes it very difficult for you to complete things on time.
Jill is a caring person but her teaching style is disorganized and she cancelled class like 5 times. I like her and would take her again but she definitely needs to show up more prepared. Pretty easy class, just do the work and study for the tests. Make sure you get the vocab down
It was SO hard to understand what she was asking for. Assignment format is all over the place. For example, writes the same thing twice but rewords it and sticks it in another section of the instructions. NEVER responds to email. The quizzes will mark your correct answer wrong (it's wrong in the system), so be careful.
She isnt really good at communicating which is weird for a communications class. The class is not hard but the two presentations dont have very clear instructions. I didnt really understand what was going on until the day before the presentation. One is by yourself and another is with a partner. The exams are really easy and there is not much HW
I loved coming to Jill's class the first half of the semester. She is very passionate about what she teaches and has lots of engaging stories that she works into her lectures. Towards the second half of the semester, she started to fall apart. She missed like five classes and was totally disorganized. Nobody in the class was prepared for the final.
She doesnt fit in any tag available, she teaches communication but is the worst communicator I've seen teaching, she cancelled class multiple times, doesnt give the time to help students, she only complained about my presentation idea, than wasn't available to help, ended up giving me a worse grade than I deserved! She has no commitment to the class
Took her marketing class. Takes a while to get replies. Disorganized layout.
So unorganized. No preparation for exams. Goes on tangents. Lectures are pointless but mandatory for participation points. She canceled class at least 5 times. Specifically didn't come to class an entire week before our presentation and then got angry at the class when we didn't do the assignment correctly. Easy A but really frustrating.
She is one of the worst and most unorganized professors at sbcc. Her lectures are just infuriating because she goes off topic constantly and will never have you prepped for the exams. She canceled class way too many times, brought her dog to class which was cute the first time but was a distraction the rest. Just a bad teacher.
She was the most unorganized teacher I have ever had. Especially for a college class. Always goes off topic, and is difficult to keep focus in that class. Especially when shes looking at her phone/clock constantly. Cancelled class and brought her dog and daughter to class multiple times. Would never take this teacher again.
Extremely unorganized. Would not be clear on assignment expectations, and no structure at all to grading. Make sure to stay accountable for your grades received & question them if needed. Grading had no rhythm to it at all, and class would be constantly cancelled. Make sure to attend office hours, since she hardly replies back to emails.
DON'T TAKE HER CLASSES! A semester of confusion! She doesn't communicate and disappears for weeks, which for an online class is horrible! Her assignments and projects are badly worded so they don't make sense. I had emails the entire semester with complains form every student: No one understood anything! Took it for GE a.k.a don't repeat my mistake
This professor was terrible, it made me want to drop out. Very poor instructions, doesn't reply to emails/texts. Will not work with your schedule if you have problems. Puts in grades very last minute. Very picky and choosy with her grading. Cancelled class 10 times in one semester. Cancels class because of sickness and her grade school child.
I really loved this class. My friends had recommended it to me and I would take it again. Jill is very personable and kind. I found her lectures & projects very interesting and helpful in my everyday life. She is understanding on grading. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn useful information from an outstanding teacher.
Good teacher, totally nice and totally open with her classmates. Tries to create a fun and interactive classroom. Really easy class as long as you just simply do your work and participation. She grades mostly based on participation anyway, it makes the class a lot more lively too! Good class 10/10 would take again.
I'm not sure how her face-to-face classes go, but the online class set up was terrible. VERY unorganized and out dated, which was difficult for an online class. I was always confused on what exactly she wanted done and she was a tough grader. We were expected to buy the latest edition textbook, but all of her modules referred to older editions. :(
Professor Scala, is a great teacher. She expects you to do your best and is ALWAYS willing help to do so. Im a DSPS student and was worried that I wouldnt do so well going back to school. Jills way of teaching prepared me to be a great student, in All my classes. This is the 4th class Ive taken by Jill and hopefully not my last. I give Jill A+
Take Professor Scalas class was so fun! She was easy going, approachable and so friendly. I really enjoyed her class this year and finished with an A. Engage and have fun, and youll do great! Highly recommend this class! Not to mention you learn so much about life, and how to enhance your own relationships!
Professor Scala always made class fun and interesting. She came prepared each class with videos, activities, and hilarious personal stories that related to the topic. I would highly recommend this class!
Jill is a mentor inside and outside of the classroom. Her love for her students and daughter, the craft of communication, and teaching is a beautiful and inspirational thing to observe. The respect with which she treats her students equips her students with the confidence necessary for success.
I took 3 courses with Jill as my professor. I am now finishing up her FIN 100 course. I think she is great! Positive and willing to explain things thoroughly. I am an older adult going back to school and Jill is one of my professors who creates a conducive atmosphere for someone like me who has been out of school a long time.
I took her marketing 203 online class and I wanted to say that you should sign up for her class because she is a very helpful professor and if you are struggling or need help, even through online she will do what she can to make you succeed if you want it too!
Great teacher. Highly recommend!
You should definitely take this class with Prof. Scala. it has had such a positive impact on how I communicate with people in my life. Plus, it really taught me to be responsible with deadlines and encouraged me to talk to/meet new people. I cant imagine anyone regretting it.
One of my all-time favorite professors. She inspired me to become a COMM major. She explains things very well and knows what she's talking about. Not too many assignments, only 2 presentations, and the tests are not over complicated. Take her class!
The greatest comm teacher Ive ever taken, hands down.
Take her! The work might be a handful if you procrastinate but its honestly not a lot of work. Jill Scala is one of the best teachers at city college not just the comm department. I had her 3 time once face to face and 2 online; I passed all three. She is definitely top 3 communication professors at SBCC & I had about 5 diff teachers. No Cap!
Jill was a pretty fun teacher, I enjoyed going to her class. She always has funny examples of trying to relate the material to our lives. She's really funny and very nice. She does seem to be a little unorganized and missed a handful of classes but other than that I really enjoyed her.
Jill is all over the place but teaches fine. Show up, pay attention, take notes, look at powerpoints, and its an easy A. I got a B+ because I slacked when things went online. If I put in more effort I would have got a A. Participation is important. It's ok if your shy because no one judges. Jill tells lots of stories that are ... interesting lol.
COMM121 wouldn't be too difficult of a class with a different teacher, but Professor Scala made it hard, especially in an online environment. She often wasn't clear with expectations, wrote confusing instructions for the assignments, and graded harshly. The course material wasn't too bad, but expect weekly textbook readings/participation activities
This is my first semester with online classes. Professor Scala is accessible anytime and provides a text number to reach her. She is caring and passionate about students and called me at home when I missed assignments to make sure I was ok. Her assignments are real world applicable and these have made me a better daughter and girlfriend.
Not my favorite in the Comms dept. Pretty easy A but there's a lot of busywork. I don't know if it was the course material or the professor but I just didn't get a lot out of this class. Work was straightforward and easy to comprehend but the assignments just didn't have much value academically.
Unacceptable. Prof. Scala was unclear, unresponsive, and was clearly not engaged in this course. I've never had prof. act annoyed/ not respond when asked questions about the material before. What could have been an engaging and informative class, was rendered relatively dull due to a lack of care and effort from the instructor. Very unfortunate.
Professor Scala is one of the most disorganized instructors I've had. She seems like a nice person but her instructions were extremely disorganized, and she grades hard on big assignments. When I contacted her, she would often take a day or more to reply. I definitely recommend taking another teacher.
Take this class - Professor Scala is one of the nicest teachers at SBCC. I took her class during the pandemic, so everything was online. We only had 2 zoom meetings, which were for the speeches. There are about 5 discussion posts, quizzes every week (open note), and 2 speeches. She responds to emails very quickly. She gives great feedback on your
Inspired me to change majors to Communication. This is the most valuable course to learn about communication, my relationships & myself. Practical assignments prepared me for life. All of my relationships improved using the skills learned. She is passionate and cares about your success. Willing to meet anytime day/night around your schedule!10/10

Variety of activities, which makes the online class more fun. You do not have to do a discussion every week and she is very clear with the material and content
I took this course with Professor Scala and it wasnt too difficult but a lot of her instructions were unclear, and she takes a while to respond to questions in emails especially. Her quizzes are timed outrageously, and she is a harsh grader. I don't recommend this Professor But her class wasnt super difficult. A lot of homework.
Professor Scala is open minded and supportive. Assignments are relevant to everyday life not busy work. 2 presentations but are easy to follow with a word for word rubric of expectations. One of the few online instructors that respond quickly to email/text messages. Provides positive feedback on assignments. Willing to accommodate students
Good class. The quizzes can be challenging. Prof. Scala is very helpful and worked with me when I had personal things come up during the semester. She also gives out her phone number. She's not a hard grader. As long as you do the assignments and read the chapter before the quizzes you'll be fine.
Prof Scala is extremely understanding when personal situations come up and is flexible with her time/ deadlines to ensure her students success. She is an approachable and passionate prof and it's not hard to tell she loves her job. Prof Scala is a gem of a teacher and any student would be lucky to land a spot in her class before they fill up.
Prof Scala is such an amazing teacher! She really cares and goes out of her way to help insure your success in the course. Her assignments are sometimes unconventional yet hold great value, as you learn skills that you never knew youd need in the job market, meaning so much more than whats on the surface. Shes the best. Pulls the best out of you.
Professor Scala is an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable in business communication. Not too many assignments, and they are all very helpful In learning new skills. Responds quickly and truly cares about students. She called me at home when I missed work.
Professor Scala was a great teacher. Always available, always a smile/willing to help. Unfortunately, she doesn't organize well. The modules were all over the place and it was hard because she posted so many different instruction sheets. Hard to keep track. Easy A once you get the hang of her pattern. She is very sweet though and a big help!
Shes an awesome professor! She cares alot about her students, and is very funny! Can always come to her for questions about assignments and has a clear grading system. Participate and turn in assignments on time and you will pass.
Ms. Scala is the most caring Professor you could have, She offers to help a lot of students and really helped me learn more in the class.
I loved her class ! She was very nice and definitely cared about her students. The class was somewhat easy if you read the book you will pass! No homework and not a lot of assignments a few important assignments and presentations. Would 100% recommend Jill! She seems very understanding!
This class surpassed my expectations. I was able to apply what I learned in both professional life and to improve personal relationships. I have told all of my friends to take this course. My instructor was always available if I had questions. She is passionate and caring with lot of business communication experience
She's a very kind and caring teacher. Very passionate about the subject and easy to reach out to for help. Textbook is very interesting to read. Overall, easy class and important communication skills to learn. The canvas page is a little bit confusing and disorganized but you can ask her anything.
Loves job and students. Wants students to take away something meaningful and explains how to implement skill into everyday life. Canvas can be hard to follow at times but instructor sends announcements 2x a week to keep students on track. quick in responding via email or text. Understanding and caring. For overachievers, offers helpful resources.

Prof. Scala is so kind and it is obvious she cares about her students. She is very passionate about what she teaches and really wants her students to use what they have learned. There were two speeches in this class along with quizzes and discussions. All of the assignments were useful and not just busy work. I definitely recommend this class!

Prof. Scala is such a kind lady and seems like she is very passionate about comm and teaching, but her directions are very unclear. Hard to follow. Her instructions are just so confusing. Like, for one assignment it said: "step one; follow all instructions." Uh okay yeah that's what I am currently trying to do.
She's super nice and her class is pretty interesting. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to do well. Her canvas is sometimes confusing to follow and some instructions are unclear. other than that, she's a great professor!
Exceptional professor real life examples, engaging, interactive discussions, and multimedia resources makes complex theories interesting. Tonight we had a 2 hour discussion on a difficult chapter. She made me feel important, motivated me to excel in my comm rlsps. Caring, genuine and passion for her students. Feedback is constructive.
Very nice prof just like most of the other comm profs at sbcc! She is understanding and supportive and wants you to do your best and feel your best. Took the summer course and workload is manageable bc it's asynchronous. Get ready to make speeches, just like comm 131 & 141. Text needed and hw discussions and other assignments.
She's nice but her set up was so confusing. The instructions are unclear and messy. There was issues with the live presentations and then the make up sheet was just everywhere. It's not a hard class but you just kind of have to look everywhere for the instructions.
Thoughtful and understanding. Professor called me at home to make sure I was ok and understood the presentation assignment. Spent 30+min on assignment but also took time to get to know me. Accessible anytime via text. Wish more teachers were like this.. Definitely take this course.
Great class, It would have been better live or hybrid because I am a comm and business major. The group assignment can be challenging but all of the assignments are practical and applicable to my life. She provides a lot of feedback and sends weekly updates. If you need to meet, just email and you can zoom.
While the class itself is not very difficult, the way she was MIA the whole course made it difficult to succeed. she wouldn't post the assignments on time, never graded assignments until way later, canceled live zoom presentations multiple times, had vague instructions, would email abt assignments then never post them, etc. overall very unorganized
My 2nd class with Prof. Scala. While another student noted communication problems, I had the opposite experience. She is available by email & mobile number, she has been supportive when a personal situation arose gave me extra time. I know she had a family matter that came up last semester. She truly cares about her students success.
Left assignments off the course calendar until the absolute last minute. Abysmal communication skills in her assignments as written. Lied about the methodology of our midterm for some reason. Maybe she would be better in person, but she seems completely incapable of handling an online course. Happy to never need another course with her.
Love this class and relevant to my life! She genuinely cares about her students' success and called me personally to help me get back on track. No busy work, assignments were relatable to my life. She provides personalized feedback for assignments and also shares other examples to show how to improve. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed the content and value I got from this class, and I think Professor Scala is fantastic teacher. Her curriculum was very clear and I learned a lot from it especially about relationships. The knowledge was very practical!
best professor ever
Homework was easy enough, not much communication from her on the online course I took. Would get a notification for an assignment 2 days before it was due. Though, her class is simple, and it is not hard to get a good grade, but she is honestly just not the nicest. I think some more warmth and support from her would change my rating to 5/5
Professor Scala is one of the most exceptional educators I've encountered. Her communication skills are unparalleled; she explains complex concepts with remarkable clarity, ensuring every student grasps the material. What truly sets her apart is the impeccable structure of her course. The syllabus is thoughtfully designed and easy to understand
Thanks to Professor Scala's teaching prowess, this class was the easiest I've taken in college. Her ability to break down challenging topics into manageable segments made learning enjoyable and stress-free. Her lectures were engaging, and she always encouraged active participation, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
love it! 161 recommend team role-play as hiring managers interviewed students and picked who to hire. Fun in lab w/free food. 121 helped communicate w/family. Office hr flexible and at night. All assignments posted for whole semester but she allowed late work. Great teacher. Wanna pass read announcements.
Good teacher, but lecture slides were disorganized and she was over an hour late to the live zoom presentation.
Professor Scala was AMAZING. She is understanding and took the time to explain assignments. I also really liked how the entire semester was posted in the beginning, so I knew what was expected of me. She also posted announcements in advance, so I had enough time to complete assignments. Finally, I appreciated her fast and helpful replies.
Jill Scala is an excellent professor!! I am so happy that I enrolled in her COMM 131 course for the Summer Session. I didn't know what to expect, but the assignments she presented allowed for us students to expand our knowledge of topics and subjects that of our choice & present them. 100% Recommend!! In fact I will take another of hers if I can !!
