Should have been SWS course.Be prepared to do toooo much writing.
She is so into what she is doing, very motivating, inspiring, and helpful
Best prof I've had! Very interesting. She makes you want to work hard for her.
Excellent professor, very patient and understanding of all students needs.
Very sweet and funny! She makes you very enthusiastic about what you are doing!
Nice and easy but definately plays favorites
Plays favorites big time! She's very anal about work too. It has to be perfect
Very willing to help students, loves what she does and it shows
Great teacher, knows what she is talking about, willing to help students
Jill is very helpful. I was glad to have her for two semesters! Jill rocks!
Bad teacher. She relies on schieder to make up assignments.
Hang in there! Ready to drop in beginning, just get on good side, you do fine
Sweet women, great teacher, taking her again soon and can
She teaches the class very backwards and very confusingly!
Learned a lot, fines something good in everything you do
Nice teacher, grades easy...quite a bit of writing, you self learn by tutoring
She will find the best in whatever you do! Wonderful professor and person!
she is a hard but fair teacher..will give help when needed
unorganized, nice lady, can't fret over details, adds to syllabus
Nice lady, inspired me to teach as well as write.
Best prof I have had at gvsu. Am going to ask for reccomendation to school of ed
Plays favorites but is a great teacher and gives good book advise for kids
Little unclear but is passionate about reading.
very inspiring, lots of experience and knowledge, LOVE this prof!
Very unclear, learned nothing, terrible prof, talks about family way to much.
motivating but disorganized, pay attention or you will miss assignments!
Good prof. If u want organized, don't take this class, but she's nice
Students taught the class; projects are basically busy work; very unorganized; I learned almost nothing useful!
She is very nice. I enjoy her enthusiasm.
She is an extremely nice woman. The people in her classes tend to be annoying brown nosers, which makes the class irritating. So while you get a lot from her, you are driven nuts by your classmates.

Very nice. LOVES clip art in your papers! You got clip art..you got an A. Serious about her work, don't bother skipping her class she won't take no for an answer!
Unclear on some of the things she wants, but all and all, she is really passionate about what she does.
If you have a good knowledge in writing papers you will do fine. Not too difficult. Sometimes unclear about assignments. For the most part friendly.
she's pretty scatterbrained...but knows what she's talking about. should still be teaching in an elementary classroom, not a college classroom.
she says y'all and shes and english professor, enough said
I just love jill, she is so great, not always clear, and sometimes its a lot of work, however the class is GREAT and you understand your strategies for teaching so much better when you are through.
I loved Jill for "Teaching Reading". She was a warm, caring and nuturing individual. She loves to hear people read as though they were reading to children. She has an enthusiam for teaching that can't be denied.
Jill doesn't communicated very well at all and she is very scatter brained. She tells you what to write you paper on the day it is due. basically, e-mail her about 10 times so you know what to do. Best part-her grading is really easy!
Very warm person but terrible prof. NOt clear, takes forever to answer emails. Conducts class in Jiggsaw every one hated listening to everyone else and made fun of other classmates no one wanted to go.
Worst teacher ever! Likes to embarress students she does not like. Very un-organised! Made us buy five books a cost of 108$ and used only one chapter out of all five books! Out-ragous requirements! Has no respect for students.
Nice woman, but very unoraganized! Classes are always a huge jumble and things never go on according to schedule!
Very Scatterbrained. The class was a joke. We did not use but only one chapter from one book. She embaressed a student in class because she did not agree with them. Un-organised. Treats you like a child. Has not been teaching for so long that she no long
You will get out of her class whatever you choose to put into it. She's an extremely warm and caring teacher. Did you know she actually sits in each student's seat and prays for them before each class? This is true... She especially loves read-aloud time. She's awesome!
Jill is a very nice lady, but one of the worst professors ever. I dreaded going to her class, and I was one of her favorite students! Either she likes you or she doesn't. GET ON HER GOOD SIDE! This class was a breeze. I would put my lesson plans together last minute and get double credit.
Started out liking the class then I realized she plays favorites and holds grudges. She's unorganized and is VERY RUDE and CONDESCENDING when people aren't around. Class wasn't too hard, but it's unbelievable she's so high up in the English dept. you wouldn't know if she didn't tell you.
Jill is a nice lady, but it is true that she picks favorites and unorganized. I recieved an A in this class however i dreaded going to it. in all tuthfullness in my 3 years here at GVSU hers is the only class that i skipped 5+ times. Again she is a nice lady but nice does not equal good teacher.
Started ok, but treated us like kids and picks favorites. Most unorganized prof I've ever had. Assignments are pointless, but I did them all last minute with As on them. She doesn't even speak good English-go figure. Didn't learn much, I'm in COE now and realize she was a waste of time.
Prof Warren does play favorites, but all you need to do to be a favorite is share a love for teaching. She really does care about you as a person, and does pray for each of her students. Has her vices as a teacher, but what prof doesn't. Would take her again if had the chance...
She is very nice, but has a problem with picking favorites. I don't like how she tells you that this class will consume your life on the first day of class and then expects her students to be on time and ready when she was hardly ready to start class. And the class turned into more of a grammar class then it was teaching reading.
This is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. She is unorganized, her answer to everything is "It's in the syllabus" (even when it isn't) and she is TERRIBLY rude. I am getting a decent grade, but even an "A" wouldn't be worth the torture of having her as a prof.
This class was a waste of my time. I didn't learn a thing! She's rude to her students. If she doesn't like you, you won't do well, if she does like you, you will get an A on everything. She is so unclear and unorganized. She is full of herself and thinks her daughter is the greatest person in the world(if you have her, you will hear about Paige)
This class would have been really easy if Jill clearly explained things. I was one of her favorites and I don't know why. I missed quite a few classes and the first half of the semester I could'nt stand her. She kind of grew on me once I got used to her constructivist teaching style. The trick is to get on her good side, and go to class when yo
great professor!!! very nice!!! lots of reading but interesting reading, nice grader!!
A good instructor, very passionate about the art of teaching reading to young children. Pay attention, read the syllabus carefully, do your assignments, get your classroom visitations and tutoring done, and you should be OK.
hmm.. the funny thing is, is how i cant think of one thing i learned expect for a few new childrens authors. she is very sincere, but i never knew when to turn anything in. piles everything on for the end. very boring, i honestly didn't learn anything couldn't stand this class.
Truly the biggest waste of time yet. Watch out ENG majors--you take the same class 5 times (ENG307,308,309,400, and ED320), so enjoy that. Jill is a great person but a horribly unclear teacher who plays favorites like no one I have EVER seen before. She has to backtrack on a lot she says because of her unclarity in the syllabus. AVOID!!
Do not take her.. stay away. I got almost all A's on everything and will be lucky if I get a C+ all because of the midterm.
Do not take her class. I got an A, but the mass amount of stress and confusion made it not worth it. She uses another teachers vague syllabus and and leaves things like the portfolio out of it. She's nice, but can be very discouraging at times, regardless of her sincerity. Save yourself a head of hair and don't take the class.
She should have stuck to her guns and graded on critical thinking. Instead, she took the route of so many other profs and graded solely on meeting the criteria and strong attendance. She has a lot of knowledge so listen up you will learn a lot.
One of the worst teachers I have EVER had!! She flipped out at me in front of other students because I had missed class (due to being in the hospital). I got all A's and because of the mid-term, she told me to hope for a C at best. VERY UNCLEAR. She taked off points for format but never explains it... STAY AWAY!!
I feel like she is a truly nice women but she has been teaching too long. She made up a lot of words and expected us to know what they meant even before the class started. There is a lot of busy work and a lot of random off topic discussions. I wish that more talk was done about teaching and less about her family.
She is a nice person, but absolutely unclear about any expectations on assignments. Often will tell students different things about the same assignment. If you are not one of her favorites, you will not do well. Don't take her, its just not worth the headache.
This woman is so crazily passionate about teaching and children and making the world a better place, it's exhausting. She doesn't have clear deadlines, grades in-class assignments out of 3 pts, doesn't give clear instructions, and rambles. She is more of a grandmother than a teacher. She is nuts nuts nuts. But understanding and just wants the best.
DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!! TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!!!!!!
She truly is a nice lady and very passionate about what she does. She is incredibly opinionated, and definitely picks favorites. Her deadlines and expectations for assignments are NEVER specific which makes it so difficult to ever know what she wants. I'd avoid her if you are like me and need clear cut rubrics and due dates.
Prof Warren is a very compassionate professor. You can tell she loves what she does and wants her students to share in the passion she has for teaching. Her deadlines are a bit confusing, but if you email her she will respond. She is very understanding of outside obligations and will help in any way she can.
Jill Warren is passionate about her job. Lucy Calkins will become your new topic of conversation. Warren is not specific about assignments but grades regularly. Warren has a relaxed personality; If you're sick, she'll adjust your schedule so you can finish and receive a grade, very soft spoken, etc.
I have taken Jill for two English classes now and have found them to be easy A's. As long as you put hard work into the projects assigned you will be fine. Jill does not believe in standardized testing, therefore no exams are given! Jill honestly cares a lot about the future of her students and I found her to be extremely approachable!
Her grading is not hard, but assignments are a LOT of busy work that seemed somewhat pointless. Didn't really learn a lot in the class and found it pretty boring. She's nice, but is not a great professor. Try to take someone else if you can if you actually want to learn something useful for your teaching career.
i WAS excited about this class... but now I can't help but thinking.. "what have I gotten myself into?!?!" She seems like a nice person... but sorta everywhere in class. drives me crazy that she really doesn't follow syllabus. told us 2day not to sleep more than 4-5 hrs a night b/c your wasting life. crzy lady!! lol. find someone else!!!
rude, rude, rude. I'm not sure what I did to get on her bad side, but I would never suggest her to anyone. She picks favorites. I can't express the stress this lady brought in my life.If you do take her, kiss up from the beginning or you'll be paying for it all semester. Her opinion of you will highly depend how you like the class.FIND SOMEONE ELSE
Jill is not "rude" unless you disrespect her or show little to no interest in the class. She does play favorites, but only because half of the students don't speak up or act like they care about being a teacher. She has great advice, and WILL understand you if you take time to talk and be real with her. She has a big heart. She really cares.
Jill is a very nice woman but she cannot stay organized to save her life. She expects you to know the ins and outs of projects without ever clearly explaining them. Ask one question and she will go on rants for the whole class. She plays favorites but is always willing to add more to her list if you talk to her. I WOULDN'T recommend her overall.
Jill is nice. If you get on her good side, and go to her office hours, you will get a better grade. If she doesn't like you, she will give you a worse grade. She often assigns assignments that she never goes over, so most of the time its a waste of your time to do.
Jill is very passionate. However, he passions lead to rambling, off topic rants, and a lot of complaining. She hates students that have part time jobs or commute. Stay on her good side to get a better grade. I have had her before and both times I haven't learned anything, except her strong opinions unrelated to the class material. AVOID her.
Jill is a wonderful person. Her heart is truly in the right place&knows a lot about her field. Her expectations are very unclear.ask very very direct questions to get the necessary material. Don't let her attitude rub off on you, she enjoys rambling. You don't use most the books. Easy A, but a lot of complaining to sit through with learning little
Honestly, one of my fav profs at GV. She does play favorites so get on her good side and you will be golden. She is very sweet if you make an effort to do well and visit her during office hours. Since I have had her, she has written me 2 letter of rec that I have needed. Do your best and show interest and she will be there for you when you need her
She is really sweet but very very scatter brained and doesn't always know what is going on. Fairly easy grader though and you don't have any tests. Mostly it is write-ups answering a few questions and two group projects. It can be super confusing because she jumps from topic to topic all the time.
Warren is rude, unorganized, and not very bright. Her lectures consist of stories about her family. Our class time is done and she says "Oh! We are out of time. We will talk about our topic next time." Yet halfway through the semester when it was time to take the midterm, we still hadn't gotten to any of the material. Cannot stress how rude she is.
I'm not sure what the point of this class was. I didn't learn anything. She does not give clear instructions at all. She got my sections mixed up with another and yelled at us when we told her we never did an assignment she was talking about. I had no idea what was going on in this class. She loves to talk about herself. Got an A but she's terrible
I didn't like her teaching styles at all. She is a very nice lady but she does biased grading. If you are not one of her favorites, expect to work extra hard to get a good grade. If you are one of her favorites, good for you. I worked hard in this class and she didn't seem to care about my opinion on any of the projects even though it was mandatory
She can be unclear at times but just take good notes on everything she expects and you will do fine. She wants you to be a good teacher and you can tell that, so feel free to ask her questions. She loves when you come visit her during her office hours,so do it! No exams but some in class writes. Be ready to tutor all semester 2 hr/wk as well.
Jill is wonderful. She truly wants all of her students to become great teachers, and she pushes them to challenge themselves. She is so knowledgeable and is passionate about what she does. She is inspirational with her stories and lectures, and the texts she chose are so helpful in learning how to be a great teacher. Most definitely take!
She gives terrible instructions. Often gets her class sections mixed up and tells us different due dates all the time. I had her for 302 and she liked me so I took her for 308. If you're willing to suck up she will like you. You can not skip her class or she will not like you and you will notice she grades you harder. for your sanity avoid her
Most unorganized teacher i have ever had. She gets her due dates mixed up in between the different sections, then often pushes the due date back anyways. Often tells one student one thing, and another student something completely different on the same assignment. Just a very frustrating course overall. She will only like you if you suck up.
Professor Warren is great. She truly cares about her students. This class is a lot of work, but it is fun. You tutor all semester, and it is a great learning experience. I loved this class and it taught me so much about teaching reading.
