Ms. Bornak was my favorite professor this semester! She posts practice exams which are very similar to the actual exams, and she is very open to questions. Attendance is the bulk of the grade, so it is an easy A. I definitely recommend taking her!
Bornak was the best professor I had this past semester. She was very specific and detailed in her lectures, but her tests weren't too difficult. She was passionate about the material and really knew what she was talking about. Show up to class, do the homework, and review your notes, and this class is an easy A.
Worst professor I ever had, very rude. She is the kind of professor who thinks that is the only class you have! TERRIBLE!!!!
The best professor you could have. Her lectures are very interesting because she is so passionate about teaching it, shes hilarious, and she gives you candy if you ask a question! She posts practice exams which are very similar to the real ones. This class is an easy A, take her if you can!
Very easy class. She explains everything very well and you know what is expected
She is super passionate and excitable about the subject, which makes it easy to listen to lecture. If you attend like you're supposed to, and do the homework laid out for you, and do practice exams/exam review, it's an easy A
Bornak is GREAT! Not only is she a great professor, but she is an entertaining one as well. She honestly made learning physics fun and interesting. She gives you classwork and homework along with practice tests, all of which contain material for the exams she gives. She also gives extra credit. CATS (a phrase of hers), she is awesome.
Bornak is by far one of the best professors ive ever had. she is super organized and prompt with posting grades. clear cut with grading criteria. always answers questions. super passionate about the subject which makes paying attention easier. just an all around great professor. definitely recommend.
loved her. she explained everything very well. would take again but I don't need astro anymore haha.
If you go to class, do your homework, and go to the planetarium you'll get an A.
Dr. Bornak is easy to get in contact with. Wide ranging office hours, good email response time. Gives study guides for tests (use them!), lots of extra credit, frequent pop quizes. So far each class begins with a review of last class, this will be directly where the quiz questions come from. All lectures are downloadable. I really loved this class.
This professor knows how to keep a class motivated to learn the material. Exams are pretty easy, but the homework is kinda tricky.
Its not the most interesting class but Jillian is good at keeping your attention an making it interesting. She has a different sense of humor but i found her hilarious. She is good at keeping the class motivated and she is an all around great professor.
Bornak is very energetic, I wish all my professors were like her. She really makes the class participate and forces you to pay attention. Attend class, do the homework and visit the planetarium and you will get an A
Jillian is one of the best Professors at UT. She's seriously so nice. I took her class over the summer and I absolutely loved it because she made it very interesting. Tests are not hard at all, she gives practice quizzes word-for-word. The homework can be taken an unlimited number of times until the due date. All around the class is EASY.
Extremely enthusiastic. Great lectures and always has a new way to grab our attention. Plus she gives out chocolate!
By far my favorite professor. I have never taken an Astronomy class and she makes it easy for me to understand.. I still have a 100% in her class! You can take homework and unlimited amount of times. Tests are easy, pop quizzes are easy and only 6 points. She makes practice exams, and genuinely cares that you understand the material.
she is the best
I LOVED professor Bornak! She is very enthusiastic, and really cares about the content that she is teaching, and about her students. She posts the lectures online but you still have to attend class, because attendance counts towards your grade. She offers extra credit too! Overall she is wonderful!! The textbook was not necessary.
I really enjoyed Professor Bornak's class! She is a great public speaker & you can tell that she's interested in the subject which made going to lectures not bad at all. All of the homework assignments & quizzes directly reflect what will be on the exam. Just do the assignments laid out for you & take advantage of extra credit & you'll get an A.
Professor Bornak is a great professor who truly does everything in her power to set you up for doing well in the class. Physics isn't and easy subject but I think she does a great job of teaching it and you can tell she really loves this stuff!
She is a super helpful teacher, she is willing to work with your schedule as much as she can. She truly cares about your education. NEVER MISS A HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!! She gives you practice exam, I do not think they are helpful personally.
Like most pre-something students at UT who have to take general physics, I was terrified at first of long nights of drilling problems and reading through a bone dry textbook. I was completely relieved as soon as stepped into Dr.B's class, and instead I was rewarded with an exciting excursion through the world of physics..... and yes, an easy A.
Dr. Bornak is AMAZING! Even though I wasn't into astronomy that much, she made me love going to her class. Her enthusiasm is contagious and rubs off on students in the right way. She is always very helpful and very organized. She's the first instructor at UT that is truly up to my standards. I would definitely recommend taking her class!
i thought this was an easy a but it wasn't i had to go to every lecture and couldn't skip class. prof gets mad about cheating why doesn't she realize we got more important classes? lectures r fine and kinda funny but some days i just don't wanna go
She a great professor who knows what she's talking about. She loves to answer questions during lecture. She tries to make the class fun and interesting and i thoroughly love going to that class every week. Her class made me seriously consider my major. If you have the opportunity to take her class then do it, you won't regret it.
Loved her class! She did a great job conveying the important info and keeping the class engaged. Would totally take another of her classes. If you show up and do the homework (which is easy), you'll ace it no problem. Also, she didn't make us get a textbook - huge bonus!
She is one of the best professors I have had at UT. Super fun and makes the lecture interesting. Btw I hated science in high school. If you do so take her class! She will keep you on your toes !
By far the best prof I've had at UT so far. Has a passion for the subject. Lectures are easy to follow and she adds humor as well which makes it fun. She understands most students in this class aren't science majors so she just wants you to get the overall concept of things. I could say great things about her all day. Would take her 100x over!!!
One of the best professors I've ever had. Super passionate and fun to listen to.
She's amazing. Best professor
This women is an ABSOLUTE GEM! I hope they are paying her well because I have never once come across a teacher in my life that lectures with so much enthusiasm and makes the class so much fun! I love going to her class, would never miss a day. Never took a single note but passed with A because she's so much fun to listen to and you learn so much.
I absolutely loved this teacher! She was so amazing. She was very enthusiastic about everything she taught. Which made it to come to class. Go to class and STAY in class. She will not let you leave early without a fight. You don't really need the book to pass. Great class. Take her!!!
Couple out of class assignments but overall a cool person. Know what's she's talking about and really gets into it and that we are here for credit not to be astronauts. Does really out of random stuff such as rolling on the floor. Highly recommend. Make sure to do the hw it's worth a lot. And quizzes and tests are weighted
I love her! take her! when ever you ask a question in class she will throw you chocolate. the lectures are very interesting! she is so passionate about astronomy which makes the class fun. take her if you can!
Please take her! Astronomy is an adventure with this woman. You really, really do learn in this class if you pay attention. Lectures are very detailed, fun, and easy to follow. Lots of homework; do not skip it or you won't pass. Pop quizzes are very simple, only 3 questions. She will give you chocolate for asking a question in class.
Definitely take for Physics 1. Keeps lectures interesting and makes lab a fair chunk of your final grade, so exams are worth only around 8% of final grade. Attendance is mandatory and pop quizzes are fairly sporadic, so be ready for them. She makes physics easy to understand for anyone. Highly recommend.
I thought I would hate this class, but Prof Bornak made it almost fun. She presents things simply and clearly and is consistently organized in her teaching and grading.
Do not take her if scott lee is an option. No one ever mentions this but you have HW. The HW isnt easy to do and her notes dont give good instruction to do so. Also you can never miss class because each class is worth 10 points and goes towards class participation. Her practice exams also are not similar to her exams. Read the book to do good.
I LOVED HER OHMIGOD. I was so ready for this to be such a hard class because I hate science, but I got 104% in her class. Seriously take this professor. I struggled to get up for my other 9:30 am class, but I was always excited for this class. She really makes it interesting, and she's understanding. Also, you don't have to buy a textbook!
Overall she is a good teacher. Her lectures are very informative. If you are not interested in astronomy, then the class might bore you. To pass her exams, you'll have to understand the material and redo the homework. Attend class always because she does pop quizzes!
She's very energetic. Made the class interesting! She gives out NASA stickers or candy for asking questions during class.
loved her, very energetic, highly recommend if you find astronomy interesting. Do not take the class if you are not into astronomy. Gives lots of extra credit, homework is easy as long as you listen and go to class.
She was a great lecturer. She posts all of the lectures in class online as well as lecture notes. Do not need to purchase the text book you won't use it. Weekly homework is a must. She throws you candy for asking questions. Light studying, going to class, and doing assignments you will get an A.
Great prof! Its a super easy class. The most studying I did was a review of the homework. Be careful about skipping her class. She likes to give pop quizs.
Great professor! Great lectures too. The class itself is a little difficult but she is very helpful outside of class. I would go to her after doing the homework and have her walk through it with me and explain things I didn't understand. That really helped out my grade too. As long as you do all the work on time you'll pass.
knows what she is talking about. super helpful and organized. smart. nice. excited. fun. unlimited chances on hw.
would not accept late work. homework every week. pop quiz every week. this was more work than my business classes.
If you aren't interested in astronomy, then the class will be quite tough. Lectures cover ALOT of information, tests are decent if you study good enough and keep up with every material she teaches that day. Must show up for class (pop quizzes and attendance points). She teaches good and helpful though!
Some of the recent reviews I do not find to be true. Professor Bornak is very structured, organized, and tech-savvy. She is also a great lecturer and the definition of fair. Show up to class, pay attention, do the homework, and you will learn along the way! I strongly recommend her Astronomy class for the non-major.
Professor Bornak is very passionate about what she teaches. However, she does cover ALOT of material each lecture and it can be hard to process at first. She does give lots of chances for success though. She is very accommodating. Attendance isn't mandatory but I would not recommend skipping as she gives a pop quiz each week.
this class is hard, attendance is mandatory for those saying it isn't. She gives you pop quizzes so I suggest you go to class so that you get the points. However, for exams she doesn't give clear instructions on what to do. She gives exam reviews that are 300 pages long and some of the material on the exam isn't discussed
I love this professor. She is energentic and loves her job. She makes the material interesting and engaging. Study the long review for exams and do your homework and the extra credit and you will do fine. I recommend this class for any major.
Homework is worth 35% of your grade. It's easy to get an A if you remember to do your homework. Exams are easy and lectures are packed with a lot of info but she makes it easy to understand. I think exams should be weighted heavier or equal to the homework, I got high A's on all the exams but still got a B+ in class. Overall, its an easy class.
Jillian was not what I expected. She seemed odd and although she was very energetic during her lectures, they were boring. She did provide study guides for tests and unlimited homework attempts, but for an intro class it was a lot of work.
I love Jillian she is a smart, intelligent, and beautiful woman. She is very knowledgeable and friendly. Easy to well if you come to class and pay attention. Her lectures are packed with alot of information, but well worth it. She is a quality professor
Really knows what she is talking about and makes it easy to understand. This class is pretty lecture heavy. Show up to class and participate in the questions and you will pass the class.
Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives pop quizzes once a week. She was great at making lecture interesting, very passionate. Homework is online, and exams are easy. She gives a decent amount of extra credit. BEST TEACHER @ UT!
I never thought that I would enjoy astronomy, but her class made me very interested in the subject. The course consisted of four exams, weekly homework, and a few other assignments. There were many extra credit opportunities though, which was great. Overall, she is a nice professor who is willing to help you anyway she can. Take her class!
She made astronomy fun and easy to learn. To get an A in her class, always come to class and pay attention. Turn in all the homework on time and be sure to keep submitting the homework until you get all the points since you get unlimited retakes. When it comes to exams re-do the homework assignments and study the practice exam.
Professor Bornak is awesome! She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. There are so many opportunities for points an extra credit. Just turn in everything on time. Attendance is not mandatory but going to lectures is really the only way to understand the material. Videos of the lectures are available though if you miss a class.
You can tell she iis really passionate about astronomy and her bird
An amazing lecturer, she really does care about the students and wants them to succeed. She is well-organized, has clear grading criteria which is explained on the first day of class, and really does go out of her way to help students. There is homework every week, and the exams are very hard, but as long as you do the homework you should do fine.
Be prepared to be treated like a child with fun homework like "Syllabus treasure hunt!" Use quizlet for answers to the needlessly long homework that mostly hasn't changes for 2+ years. If you also enjoy coming to mandatory class assignments during your down time, say Friday night, than this class is for you!
Professor Bornak gives amazing lectures. She puts a lot of time into how she teaches to make it interesting. She is very passionate about the subject and encourages you to ask questions. She gives weekly homework on Blackboard and 4 exams throughout the course. She also has you go to the planetarium and the observatory.
Shes literally so nice. She explains things really well and has a voting system that uses paper and it honestly really helps. Definitely super passionate about astronomy. Doesnt make us buy a textbook since all the lectures are recorded. Really wants to help students reach their potential.
She wants you to get a good grade. She lets you do assignments for extra credit, if you did not like your test grade and met within the 1st two weeks she gave 2 points back. She answers emails quickly, passionate about the class. Easyish homework. Tests be sure you understand what is being covered. No she's great.
Best professor at UT, very energetic and passionate about astronomy and deep knowledge in the subject. Would answer any and every question asked in class and encourages students to ask questions by rewarding them with candy or a NASA sticker! Overall great person, very flexible with office hours and makes your learning experience fantastic.
Professor Bornak is awesome, although I probably wont pass the class with an A since Im not a test taker. But shes always been understanding always super nice. She accommodating if you listen to her lectures youll be fine. Its a lot of work but the homework definitely helps Im a 25 year old college sophomore shes awesome! Best professor!
Amazing
She is very passionate about her profession. There is a good amount of work for a 1010 class. Do the easy stuff, homework, out of class assignments, discussion, etc. The tests are not the easiest so study well . I took the class because I needed to take a science to graduate. It is annoying but she gives you the resources to do well.
Dr. Bornak is very passionate about what she teaches. Her lectures have a lot of details and the questions she asks during them are usually on the exam. Make sure you do ALL of the homework for an easy A. Use the homework to study for the exams and you'll do great!
Gives lots and lots of extra credit, very easy to reach outside of class and invested in teaching. She is genuinely concerned about every one of her students and it shows. Many times her lectures have given me the chills. She has a lot of passion and knowledge for the subject and throws some humor in too. Absolutely amazing professor.
The homework is super easy, but the tests are another story. They are trick questions and even if you study, it is difficult to know what she is asking. Also do not talk in her class or she will call you out. We get a pop quiz each week, do not skip class.
Everyone that's complaining about how hard this class is are the people that don't show up and don't do the homework. The tests can be worded a bit weird but this class is an easy A. Show up, do the homework until you get full credit, and turn in everything as early as you can and this class won't be hard.
Bornak is a great teacher, that being said, she should remove the technology section and reduce the amount of homework. You can do well in this class by doing the homework and passing the exams with decent grades. If you need to take a science take Bornak; she is a very entertaining teacher and cares deeply about the topic of astronomy.
Absolutely love the was she teaches. All of the lectures were so much fun solely because of how excited she was the whole time.
Easy class. Super enthusiastic professor. All the homework is on quizlet. The BEST strategy for studying for exams is to redo all the homework assignments without using quizlet. Trust me, I got over 95% on all the exams and that's the method I used every time. ALWAYS redo the homework before the exams. Jillian is a good professor.
Professor Bornak was a great teacher. Although her exams were tough, she gave multiple opportunities for extra credit and the homework really boosted my grade. Her lectures seemed long, but she was really enthusiastic about the material she taught. She was really caring and made me really enjoy the subject of Astronomy!
Professor Bornak was an amazing professor. She came to class full of energy, and I found myself genuinely excited to learn about astronomy. The homework is easy, but don't expect to pass an exam without studying. She makes you work a little, but as long as you study you should pass with an A. There is also a ton of extra credit.
You do have to put some work into it. It;s not an easy A, but at least an easy B. The exams are graded very heavily and effect your grade a lot, but you see the same questions multiple times in lectures or through the homework throughout the unit. It's hard material but she teaches it very well and makes it easy to understand!
She really loves and knows what she is talking about. She also really cares about her students. If you want to learn about astronomy, I HIGHLY recommend taking her. If you are only taking her to fulfill a core class, be aware there is a lot of homework, pop-quizzes and 4 exams.
This professor taught this class very well!! it was probably one of my most favorite classes this semester because she made it so fun. She is very enthusiastic and loves talking about the material. There are pop quizzes but they are easy and she will review before hand. I LOVED the use of the voting sheets, it made it very easy to pay attention!
A wonderful, very passionate about physics and it shows. Voting questions are most like the multiple choice on the test. If you can do the worksheets & the homework she gives with 0 issues you will be prepared for the tests. She is very easy to talk to and super easy to get ahold of. She really cares about her students. And she gives out chocolate.
Prof. Bornak has my respect! If you are taking 1750 as a PharmD major and you are serious about your future in pharmacy then this class is no problem. Day 1 she said she knows her audience and I respect that. She does not make it harder than it needs to be!! Overall she teaches the concepts well and just a little work is needed for a B+ or A
The best professor I've ever had. She made an already interesting class that much more engaging. Her lectures were phenomenal, and made me excited to actually go to class. This class and her others aren't even necessary for my major, but I'm seriously reconsidering taking another class by her, that's how much I enjoyed her lessons.
If you need to take a natural science and chemistry isn't really your thing, astronomy is a great choice. There is a lot of homework, about 30 questions for each class, but if you pay attention in class it is pretty easy and the test questions come straight from the homework. The homework also has unlimited attempts and you can redo it to study
Dr. Bornak has been a phenomenal professor! She really makes astronomy interesting- I had no interest in it before I took her class! Her teaching methods are all based on research of how students learn best. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities that are easy to do. There was quite a bit of homework, but it helped me learn better.
One of my favorite professors! Super enthusiastic and is passionate about what she teaches. Was a little skeptical to take this class based on what I heard from past students, but I enjoyed it! There is a good amount of homework and she gives pop quizzes weekly, but they're easy if you pay attention and come to class. I highly recommend her! Easy A
Homework every week and pop-up quiz so make sure you go to class because you cant make them up if you miss them. Science is hard for me so to me this class was hard but if you do you work and study you will do just fine. Professor is also helpful with anything needed. Alot of extra credit.
Professor Bornak is an awesome professor! A lot of stuff to do for class but as long as you put in some effort you will do good. She is super nice and funny! absolutely would take her again!
Dr. Bornak is such a sweetheart! She truly cares about her students and her passion for the class makes everything worth it. Lectures are easy to digest. There are multiple weekly assignments but they're easy enough as long as you don't try to do them all on Sunday night. Would take her again, would recommend to all!
She was really awesome and the way she presented information really made a difference and stuck in my head.
Probably my favorite professor yet. She likes the material, and she actually wants you to learn and be interested in the topic. Really lenient, understanding, and nice. She also sets up the homework so that it helps you learn rather than it just be busy work; same with the quizzes. Also, she has a bird. I think the bird was really nice.
Dr. Bornak is a very caring woman who is very dedicated to teaching her students. Her exams are very hard, and if you think chegg will help you for the whole semester, you're wrong. All exams are online, w/o lockdown browser, but she will know if you use outside sources. Weekly homework. Willing to give extensions.
Great professor!
Prof. Bornak is an amazing teacher, she's super funny and makes lectures interesting. This class was harder than I expected it to be, especially for an Astronomy class.
Dr. Bornak is really cool! The material is slightly difficult if you are not familiar with astronomy, but she explains it in a way that makes it easy to understand. She really likes participation during lectures and her homework (tests and quizzes) allow for numerous submissions. Her tests and quizzes use lockdown browsers but study n youll be good
I would never recommend her.
I personally know nothing about astronomy so I struggled in this class a bit. Homework is fairly easy. Exams can be tough, but not awful. Lectures are interesting, but boring if you do not care for astronomy. I would of did better in this class if I actually tried to understand the material. She is very passionate and would still recommend her.
This class is very easy and a good GPA booster. Professor Bornak is very sweet and willing to help with anything she can. The homework and quizzes are very easy. The exams are a little difficult, but not too challenging. There is homework and quizzes every week, but very doable. This class can be taken completely online if necessary.
I treated this class like an online class. I got Covid early in the semester & started watching the lectures at home. She is very considerate of her students. GREAT PROF, EAZY A. There is a lot of homework but doing it will get you an A. 4 exams, lots of quizzes and hw but lots of extra credit. TAKE HER CLASS
Professor Bornak knows what she's talking about and you can tell is really passionate about both astronomy and teaching. She wants you to succeed and does everything in her power to make that happen. Although her lectures are content-heavy, she makes it worth your while. You can do the homework as many times as you want, and her exams are easy.
Her Intro to Physics class is literally the worst. There's no homework, but she gives weekly quizzes, and the final is worth 50%. Also, she doesn't curve at all. Her lectures and worksheets are not helpful and don't correlate to the quizzes.
DO NOT TAKE HER OR THIS CLASS!!! I had her for intro to physics class and it was so far from an intro class. Every week you have quizzes and the final is worth 50 percent of your grade. She goes so fast in her lectures and does not explain anything well. You only get twenty minutes to take the in person quizzes and are graded hard. Avoidatallcosts
Prof. Bornak used our class as her first class she gave no homework in. Sounds good right? Wrong! Instead, we were graded solely off of hard quizzes we took every Friday and our final which was worth 50% of our grade. We had 3 surveys we were able to complete but those were only worth 10% of our grade. Don't take. Way too hard for an intro class.
DO NOT TAKE HER INTRO TO PHYSICS CLASS!!! She decided to no longer give homework this year which means your grade is solely based on weekly quizzes and the final. The final is 50% of your grade. The quizzes are hard and to even keep an A u can only miss 2 questions on the final!!!! u will fail this class if u are not perfect at test taking
Final is worth 50% of your grade and the rest is hard quizzes. Insane for an intro class. Do not take her physics course.
Dr. Bornak is very engaging and genuinely wants her students to succeed. Lectures can be slightly cringe, but at least she's trying, which is more than some professors can say. Her homework has unlimited attempts, quizzes are easy, and exams are all taken from homework, voting questions, and lecture material. Do the homework, pay attention.
WOULD RECCOMEND
One of the best professors at UT. You can tell she is very passionate about the subject that she teaches and wants to make it easy for students to understand. There's a quiz every week but there are 3 attempts and the highest score is counted. It is very easy to get an A in this class if you pay even only a little bit of attention. Highly recommend
This professor is extremely passionate about what she does and that makes her lectures interesting. The lectures move very quickly, and the material of this course can get pretty difficult towards the middle/end. If you are just taking this class for a natural science credit, I would not recommend it.
Professor Bornak is extremely helpful inside and outside of class and genuinely cares about her students. She doesn't require a textbook or attendance but make sure to do all the assignments!! and the best way to study for exams is to re-do them. She puts extra credit questions in all the exams and quizzes. Truly an amazing professor.
She's a sweetie.
Bornak genuinely cares about her students so much & listens to feedback; if you pay attention in her class, take notes, and do the homework, you can pass easily. She's funny, her lecture style is interesting and keeps you awake, and if you communicate with her she'll definitely throw you a bone or two. She helped me out sm as a first-sem freshman.
This class was easy because of the resources this professor provided. Use her worksheets and ticket out the doors well, and you should be fine. Engaging lectures also.
Dr. Bornak makes it clear that she cares about her students and their success. This class can be easy if you make sure to do the worksheets and ticket-out-the-door questions. She doesn't assign homework, so practice is pretty important. Overall, she's a really cool prof and makes physics a little more bearable.
Very lecture heavy, voting questions are sometimes directly on quizzes/exams. doesn't go over the answer in the voting questions sometimes though so you have to pay attention.
She has a PHD in astronomy and clearly knows a LOT but explains complicated things in a way that's easy to understand. She is very energetic in her lectures and I think they're interesting. The hw once a week is a little long but there are unlimited attempts for full credit so its easy. If you use hw to study, tests are easy. 10/10 would take again
Bornak was a really good professor. She makes the class interesting and if you pay attention and provide a little bit of effort you will easily get an A. For homework, you get unlimited attempts, so you can just keep doing them until you get full credit. Overall, I would recommend this teacher and class to anyone.
Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. As someone who hopes to teach one day, I only hope I can do it as well as she does.
Take professor Bornak if you get the chance. It is easy to pass the class if you put effort in and do the worksheets for practice. She does do a lot of attendance points through iClicker, but the iClicker questions are very helpful to understanding the topics and are good practice for exams. She is very nice and keeps you engaged.
She's a great teacher and really cares about students. Her lectures are easy to understand and it's exactly what's on the exams.
I love Bornak, she's very helpful, gives students tons of opportunities to do well and seems like a good person. She's a very engaging speaker and will help anyone with a question. Studying for exams isn't too bad, she breaks it into like 7 little exams and the final. By far my favorite professor I've had this semester.
Dr. Bornak is super hilarious and makes each lecture interesting. She has many exams which spread out the material. She also gives a lot of attempts on homework so you can get help if you need it. Extra credit is also available so just show up and try your hardest!
I went into this semester dreading this class but she made the class so fun and exciting even if it was at 8:30. She is extremely understanding of pretty much everything and is one of the best professors I have had so far
She is amazing. So caring. Her exams are very tough, but they don't affect the overall grade that much. I failed the final and it my grade dropped one percent. She is very understanding. Do the homework during the lectures. It's easier to knock out the questions while the subject is being discussed.
Dr. Bornak is awesome! I feel like she truly cared about each and every student. I highly recommend attending every class if you are able to, since this is how you get your credit for participation. She's very passionate and enthusiastic about the lecture material, which actually made class interesting. I wish I could have her as a professor again!
Amazing professor. She made class so fun. But the exams were very hard. Class overall was very hard but I absolutely loved the teacher
Very difficult exams that don't entirely have to do with the lectures, and a lot of homework. Kind of funny in class sometimes, but that still doesn't make up for how much I felt I didn't understand at any point. Seems like a nice person, though.
LOVED Dr. Bornak! She was the most fun professor I've ever had. People are saying her exams were hard, but I studied the study guides she posts on Blackboard and never got below an 88% on any exam. She's the best!!
Every single class is an exam. You answer 40+ clicker questions and are barely explained why things are wrong.
Her lectures are very boring, but she is a decent prof. She has 3 TAs that help her grade exams, but it still takes a week at least to get them back, and there are always errors on the grading. She is a decent professor but gets very defensive when you try to explain yourself on exam questions. Exams are so content heavy. Lots of info on each exam.
Professor Bornak makes this class engaging, with clear explanations and a focus on student learning. The flexible homework policy and resources like Unstuck AI make it manageable. Overall, a rewarding astronomy course.
I wasn't a fan of Prof. Bornak, although she taught some important topics that most professors don't teach. I did not fit in with the quirkiness and the vibes that were felt every day, but overall, the class is an easy A as long as you do the homework. There was a lot of assignments, and at times I had to focus on them instead of my harder courses.
Definitely a quirky person but you can tell she loves what she's teaching. There's homework every week but it's not unbearable. Tests aren't overly difficult if you study the study material she provides and half pay attention to the lectures. Lots of extra credit, though, through the homeworks and out of class assignments which is a nice touch.
If you want to learn physics, she would be the professor to take it with. Her iClicker questions are the reason the material will sink into your brain. If you want to learn the material do the homework, attend the lectures, use iClicker, and do the practice worksheets before exam. She is also very interested in what she teaches. Which is important.
She is passionate about what she teaches and she genuinely cares about her students! While physics is a difficult subject, she made it as painless as possible. We got participation points from iClicker, 20 attempts on every homework, and she also reviews before every exam. She takes feedback and is always asking how she can improve the class!
100/10 physics is tough but she is an amazing lecturer! Attend class no matter what bc it is easy to get behind plus u get iclicker points for ur grade. Her final is only 15% of the class - MC is def more tricky than FR. Do the HW, attend class and use the practice worksheet and review iclicker questions to study for her midterms = it is an easy A.
Worst professor I've ever had in my life. purposefully schedules exams the day after breaks/holidays. Laughs when students are struggling. Swears her class is the most important thing in the world. If you want to click buttons all week sign up for this course. Laughs at students when they struggle. Do not recommend.
all class is is 50 plus clicker questions. never explains why something is wrong or right, tests and class questions are VERY poorly written, simply her poor grammar leads to missing multiple questions on each exam. class does NOT transfer over to homework, exams are not written similarily to what you are used to.
She is very iclicker heavy, but it helps you learn and master the material in class. The weekly assignments are also useful, you have multiple attempts on them. The exams are pretty straightforward from lectures, she helps students and wants them to succeed. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!!!!!
I took this class my freshman year (currently a junior about to be a senior) and it is still my favorite class I have taken at UToledo. Dr. Bornak is an incredible professor who really makes you care about what your learning. The quality of this class made me wish I was good at math so I could've majored in astronomy.
She talks way too fast to actually understand what she is trying to teach. Trying to find a good note taking and studying strategy is hard at first. If you want to do well on the exams you actually have to study. I recommend paying attention because it is so easy to get lost in lecture.
Pay attention in class and participate in the voting questions and do your homework. I didn't do any extra studying and just did the assignments , quizzes and paid attention in class and came out doing really well. The class is only as hard as you make it. no notebook needed.
She's a good professor but I will say this; she's old fashioned so just respect her time and prepared to be humiliated if you so much as to even whisper in her class, talking pisses the heck out of this women. She once sent an email to the entire class to be quiet during lecture. IClicker is helpful, but you must go to class to access it.
Great professor and lectures weren't too bad. You HAVE to be in class for her participation question through the whole lecture, and it tracks your location so it's mandatory to be in the class. Lots of homework but fairly easy. VERY test heavy and you HAVE to study or atleast pay attention to EVERY lecture and do extra credit.
She ruined my GPA, won't take her again
Dr. Bornak knows her information extremely well and truly cares about her students' success. She makes it very clear what to do, when to do it and even gives you hundreds of extra videos and article links throughout the course to expand your knowledge or to help you better understand things. She makes it nearly impossible to fail her course.
This class was the ONLY class I struggled in. I spent hours studying for exams just to fail them. It doesn't matter how good you do on homework or quizzes, the only thing that makes your grade is exams.
I went to her office hours one day and heard her and another physics professor loudly and angrily talking about students that pissed them off. I feel like that's very unprofessional as her office was open and made me anxious about future communication. Overall she's ok but she just moves really fast and forgets to tell you answers/explanations
Be prepared to read 5 paragraph essay announcements about something minor that upset her in class. She has embarrassed people in front of the whole class calling them children and snapping at them like they're pets. She can get pretty passive aggressive too even if your question is genuine because she has taught wrong info before
She makes us do iClicker the entire class period without really explaining the questions afterwards and you never know what to expect on the exam. She will tell us information that is not on the exam and it confuses me what I should focus on in the class.
Professor Bornak has a great intro course for astronomy, and even though I am a business major I found myself interested about space. All lectures use Iclicker for attendance and there are 4 exams that make up a big part of your grade. Most of the exam questions are from iclicker and hw. She wants the best for her students and is very nice
She does lots of iClicker questions in class - really helps you know what you know and what you don't. If you can't make office hours, her email is also always open. She is very friendly and cares about her students, which means she's gonna hound on people that don't respect classroom policies so that she creates a good learning environment.
I had a similar experience, I went to her office hours to go over an exam and randomly another prof came in while i was asking questions and for about 7 minutes I was listening to them angrily rant and name specific students and situations in front of me and they saw no issue
I used to suck at physics-I was never good at it. But Professor Bornak not only made it understandable, but also fun and interesting to learn about. As long as you participate in the iclicker questions and actually put in effort (especially the extra worksheets she provides), you'll be fine! I also highly recommend going to her office hours!
I honestly was deceived by her at the beginning of the semester, she wouldn't even round up my grade 0.25% so that I get an A-. Although i emailed her at the end of the semester she didnt even reply to my email, given that i have always went to office hours, so its not that i randomly popped up at the end. She also kind of hated sm stdnts secretly
She managed to make a boring topic, astronomy, interesting. I will say the first few weeks were better. It got more boring throughout the semester. The class is interactive as you are answering iClicker questions throughout. If you study those questions before exams, the exams are easy. If you need a science credit, take ASTR1010 with Dr. Bornak.
Professor Bornak is an amazing person, but I did have a few issues with the teaching style. I love that she does in class questions that break down problems, but it is a huge shock on the first exam when the questions are 10x harder than class ones. My advice is to do the worksheets and attend office hours (at least email). She answers emails quick
I really only took this class to get a natural science requirement out of the way, but this Dr. Bornak is great. She really cares about how you do in the class, and if you ever need anything she responds to emails quickly. Weekly homework and quizzes, and then a few exams. Exams are just like the homework. Use the iclicker questions to study!!
i took kathy shan and she was awful so i retook jillian bornak and she was absolutely amazing if you take kathy shan i'm sorry but get ready to marry bornak because i love this woman
