She is awesome. She was crystal clear and very helpful. She was perfect for me, and I wish I could take her again... TAKE HER
Let's be honest...this is a complete useless class. She is a good teacher for what the material is worth. Didn't learn anything but I got the credit out of the way. Not sure why I got a B but I could care less. Runs the class like it's high school again.
Great teacher, very passionate about the subject. Very lenient grader on papers but fairly tough on speeches. Enjoyed the class definitely worth taking.
Fundamentals of Communication was a pretty good class, however I think this professor made it enjoyable. She is very nice and easy to talk to. There are 3 speeches in the class and as long as you show up to class or read the book if you don't, the exams are easy. Great teacher!
I'm a Mathematics major, so this class is simply a core necessity for me. Professor Beley is enjoyable as an instructor, and it's very easy to get an A in her class if you just do each assignments. All of the speeches are extemporaneous with typed outlines for general guidance. This is the speech class to take if you need it for credit.
Great professor and very relaxed. Makes the class interesting and enjoyable. A must take professor. It also doesn't hurt that's she's hot
Professor Beley makes the dreadful Speech class requirement fun. She's very down to earth, is fun and entertaining, and is young so it was easy to connect with her on the same level. If you do everything that is asked of you, you are guaranteed to succeed in her course. I definitely did not expect to have such a great experience with SPCH1311!
She is perfect in every way! The way she teaches, her assignments and organization, and her friendly/helpful personality! She makes this class comfortable and fun. Be sure you study the review for exams and practice your speeches at home!!
Great teacher. Awesome sense of humor, and an overall enjoyable class. Made me look forward to coming to class. Not a difficult course, but you have to spend some time studying.
She is a good instructor. I would have appreciated a few reminders and the work submission dates didn't make a lot of sense (everything due on the same day). Overall, she is a good instructor.
Professor Beley is very laid back and a very clear instructor. Her class is not easy, as in you'll actually have to study a LITTLE and practice speeches, but overall, it isn't overwhelming. I'd say take her.
Good, clear professor. Arranges a series of speeches with tests, not hard just need to pay attention.
She is Awesome! I took her early morning class.. I am not an morning person, but I never missed a single class. She was very interesting an teaches very well. Loved HER!
I thought I was going to HATE speech but theres only 2 speeches in her class and theyre near the end so you're already used to your peers. She's wonderful and there to help you with anything. She responds to emails fast. And there's only 3 tests which she incorporates a clear cut study guide for you! Take her, she is amazing!
Awesome professor. She knows what she is talking about and she clearly passes on her knowledge. She does alot for her students and it shows by her well planned lectures and organized content. Lectures are fun to listen to and fun to be apart of. Everyone needs to take a speech class, don't miss out on picking her.
Absolutely AMAZING professor! She's laid-back and if you have a very sarcastic sense of humor then she's your professor. Her attendance policy is beyond fair ( 3 unexplained, excused absences) Little HW but bell ringers in-class everyday but all easy. Two speeches (Narrative & Demonstrative). Tests are exactly like the reviews (my lowest was 96).
Professor DeShazo, formerly Professor Beley, is hands down my favorite professor. She is really relatable so she's much easier to respect and learn from. She is really understanding as long as you're upfront and in constant communication with her when you miss a class. She gives extra credit & there are only two exams & two speeches.
I was dreading having to take a speech class but she made it very comfortable. Skipping class will don't only make you loose points but also loose chances of possibly having participation grades. She was always ready for class and prepared! Would definitely recommend her.
I love professor DeShazo! I took her several semesters ago and she really prepared me for the professional world. Her class actually helped me land a job and put myself above other applicants. She is really easy to get along with and really relatable. Do your work and pay attention and you'll get an a.
She is a very tough grader, she likes perfection. BE AWARE!! She will reply to your emails within 24 hours and she will always be very accessible about your concerns. Work hard and you can get an A.
Loved this class! She likes things to move very professionally in her class, so beware. There is quite a bit of homework, but none of it is hard or takes much time. She makes a speech class fun and less stressful. She will respond to your emails quickly and is very helpful when you have questions.
Fun class. She usually mixes in a few personal anecdotes during her lectures to help relate the material to real life. I did not buy the text book; most of the test questions are covered on the powerpoint slides, which are available on compass. Not a difficult class, but you do need to go to class and it will require some work.
I took this as an online class and I would recommend it. There is a bit of reading involved in the course, but not too much. There was a group project that I was worrried about, but it turned out pretty good and not as difficult as I thought it would be.
Very organized! She is on top of things. She explains things clearly and makes SPCH fun. I took her a couple of semesters ago, and loved her then. There's a reason I took her again. You do have to stay on top of things, and she does take attendance, but she's a good professor, so she's definitely worth taking.
MS. DESHAZO WAS AN AMAZING TEACHER. SHE SENDS WEEKLY REMINDERS TO KEEP YOU ON TRACK OF WHAT IS DUE. SHE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND TO HELP HER STUDENTS BE SUCCESSFUL. SHE ALSO OFFERS EXTRA CREDIT TOWARD THE END OF THE COURSE. DO YOU WORK AND YOU'LL PASS!
Professor DeShazo is not only an amazing professor, but just an overall great human being. I was super stressed this semester with some big life events and she worked with me to make sure I didn't fall behind. The course is comprised of mainly discussion boards and activities, with a couple exams, a group project, and a speech mixed in.
Prof. Deshazo was a phenomenal prof! Was one of the easiest classes I've ever had. She provides everything out from the start, sends emails, and gives good feedback. There are weekly DC boards, an activity for each Ch., 3 tests, no final, 1 group project, and 1 major speech. Easiest A EVER. Take her! She is super nice. Her online class was great!
She was very thorough about expectations and sent out weekly reminders of due date for upcoming homework. Gave feedback and explanations on assignment scores and offered helpful critique often. Very organized and graded quickly. Will take again.
Took this online and it was very easy. Upload your 2 speeches to YouTube for online. Had one group project and 10 easy activities. Instructions are very clear and didn't have to contact once. Easy A if you do your work. Highly recommend taking her!
Professor DeShazo was one of the first college teachers I had and she is wonderful! She is clear and concise during her lectures, and absolutely willing to work with students to make sure they succeed! All you have to do in order to pass is complete your work, take notes to study for the tests, and be productive in class!
Deshazo is a wonderful teacher! She is very easy to get a hold of when needed. She reminds you a million times about assignments (which is appreciated). Lots of in class activities but are based on participation. Funniest class all semester!
She's the best professor I've ever had, love her!
this was the best teacher ive had so far. plenty of opportunity for extra credit and she is easy to talk to.
Only good for those who do not need to learn anything. If you are a communications major do not take her class. You will not learn anything and it is clear the professor has not worked in an office environment ever or in a very long time, making her lessons about business very textbook oriented and not very practical.
If you need to get speech credit out of the way take her class online, very easy.
I loved this class. She was a very good teacher to have first thing in the morning. She sets reasonable expectations and explains very clearly what she wants from you. 100% take this teacher if it is an option.
If you do not take her speech class, you gonna regret!!! Do the homework, it is not heavy you can't finish it, anyway, take her!
Really enjoyed deshazos technique! She was super sweet and made public speaking less scary. She is caring but also doesnt put up with any crap. Made exceptions but only when absolutely needed and only for students who respected her. Easy and fair grader. Super interesting stories and has a great sense of humor. Would definitely take her again!
She is my favorite professor and I will be taking her classes again. Shes hilarious and is excellent at teaching the material. Literally just study the power points and its an easy grade.
I tool Professor Deshazo online for business speech and it was a great class. Do the assignments on time and you should get an A. There's three video speeches, one introduction one, one business one, and one for a group project. The tests are more conceptual, but if you looked over the notes and lectures, you'll be fine.
It's no wonder Professor DeShazo has tenure! She was amazing by clearly stating important test or speech dates, her expectations and grading system, as well as being very accessible outside of class. Would definitely recommend her to others!
Professor DeShazo is a super easy grader on assignments. If you do the work you'll get 100% on weekly assignments. There were 2 tests that weren't too bad if you reviewed the power points on canvas also there were review that helped. There were also 2 speeches that were presented in class. She is an overall great teacher.
2 Speeches and 2 tests throughout the semester, both of which you know about weeks before thanks to her syllabus that she completely follows. There is weekly homework that if you complete on time you will get full credit for. Attendance is very important and you cannot miss more than 2 or 3 days without losing a lot of points. Overall amazing prof!
Pretty easy to get an A if you turn your work in on time. If you do her online class, you can actually get done with everything except the group project at a faster pace. Do the extra credit to make up any points you've lost or offset the group project grade.
Pretty easy. One group project. There is a chance for extra credit. Need your textbook for the first half of the semester. Kinda a hard grader on speeches. She is funny and I learned a lot.
I took this online. Tests are really hard. This class is an introduction class yet it was the hardest class I ever took. I want to give the prof my benefit of the doubt but she was really hard. Only good thing is that she gives feedback. Thats about it. I don't recommend choosing her if you just need a credit in this department.
If you follow the syllabus to the letter, and put forth a genuine effort, you will do well in the class. Some speech classes from what I have been told, are an "easy A." Although that is the grade I received I would not say it was "easy." Be prepared to pull your weight during a group project. Also, there are 3 tests, but a study guide is given.
Amazing Professor! She teaches the lectures in a way that helps you understand, and will help you if you still don't understand. Pay attention, take good notes, and you'll definitely pass. There are 3 tests and 3 speeches.
I took her hybrid course so we only had a class once a week but you didn't really need to be in class unless it was test day or article review day as long as you did the study guides the test was easy. She does give very interesting lectures I really liked how she talked. The only difficult part was the article critique because it was confusing.
Her online classes are rough. I went in thinking I would have to do speeches and theres only 1 speech. The rest of it are activities that do not help with the test and that seem like busy work. The tests are very hard and there were no online lectures to help with them. I studied a lot for the tests and still made Cs. Take this class in person!
Professor DeShazo was always clear on the work needed for each assignment. She provided great feedback on each assignment so you would know how to move forward providing the best work possible.
Professor Deshazo is the best ever, she gives good feedback on the work that you do in her class and good explanations of what she wants from you.
she gives encouraging feedback and it shows she actually reads your submissions which i love. only reason i put 4 instead of 5 is because i never got to know her as a full person since it was online. one group project and one speech, many activities
Professor DeShazo is my favorite professor! Super funny! Fantastic lectures! Class is pretty easy, just read directions and turn in your assignments on time. Mainly study definitions for the tests, they're mainly conceptional. 3 major test, 1 group project, and one 5-7 minute speech for a final. Expects everyone to act like adults. Super great!
Favorite professor ever! Super funny! Fantastic lectures! Easy class if you read the directions, turn in assignments on time, and study definitions for the tests (they're mainly conceptional). Three tests, one group project, and one 5-7 minute speech. Expects everyone to act like adults and is passionate about her job. TAKE HER YOU WON"T REGRET IT!
My favorite professor by far!
She's a great professor! Chapter assignments are graded easily, the grading criteria for the speeches is very clear and it's easy to get a good grade, and there's one group project at the end. The class I took was web so we could use notes on tests. She even has an end of semester extra credit opportunity!
TAKE HERRRRR! SHE GRADES EASILY AND HER EXPLANATIONS AND EXAMPLES ARE EVERYTHING. I wish I could take another class with her.
She's a good professor with a very funny personality. her tests are okay as long as you study all the chapter notes, we did two speeches one 3 min and another 5-7min, 3 tests, and she gave extra credit! weekly chapter hw! not bad
This class is an easy A if you dont slack off. Make sure to throughly look over the study guide she provides for each exam, and keep up with the assignment due each week. And you will be alright.
Dr. DeShazo is a really cool person. She explains concepts in simple terms but doesn't talk down to you. She makes the class feel less like a lecture and more like a fun conversation. She'll always jump to help answer questions and work with you. I would definitely take a class with her again.
As long as you study the terms and turn in your work, you'll be fine. The second half of the class is a bit harder, and she was a tuff grader when it came to the speeches and the assignments around them. Very nice professor.
Professor DeShazo is very organized and provides a ton of extra resources. She allows you to work ahead and provides extra credit. If you do not do well in her class, it is because you didn't want to. Yes, you have to give a couple of speeches, but she makes them light and as comfortable as she can. Her feedback is great and I would recommend her!
This course was run seamlessly and you never wondered what to do or how to do it. You may use your notes for tests, but think life applicable vs. text book answers. You do the work, you get an A. She is accessible and super helpful if you ever need to reach out. She is a fabulous teacher and her lectures were a joy to watch. I would take her again.
She responds to emails very quickly (I once had a response in three minutes). Coursework is easy, except for maybe the last part with the speech if you have stage fright. Tests are open-book. There are three of them, and then the speech instead of a fourth. She grades assignments easily. Basically, do the work and you'll probably get a good grade.
She is a good teacher.
Get the text book. It has all the answers you'll need and is very interesting. DeShazo does read all your work and gives great feedback so don't think you can write fluff and she won't know. She is a very fast grader and gives good extra credit. Average work load and clear expectations. You can take this course online with little issue.
REVIEWS DON'T LIE!!, Professor Deshazo was an amazing person and made it clear what assignment is due and gave you so many helpful resources to prepare you for your assignment or test. She's a very lenient teacher and allows you to do something different with her approval. NOTE: Please be respectful and show up ON TIME for your presentation day!
I took this course in an accelerated hybrid format and I found the coursework very manageable. The speeches were easy if prepared. The tests come up quickly, but were all multiple choice and follow the test review exactly. There are a good amount of assignments that were easy to finish. She gave quality feedback frequently and was very flexible.
I really enjoyed her for my speech class. I am an older student and this class is geared towards a younger crowd, but I did learn a lot! She opens everything up the first day and it's not hard to work through. She grades quickly and responds quickly. It is a lot of busy work but an easy A if you do the work.
I took professor Deshazo for a wintermester online and it was one of the best things I could've done. Her class is very straightforward and relatively easy if you do the work. She gives great feedback and is always accessible. 10/10 overall!
Prof. Deshazo is a great professor! I had her for a short 6-week summer class, and she helped create a non-judgmental zone, since speech is generally a pretty scary subject. She kept the class engaged, communicated well and had a clear structure. 10/10
Prof. Deshazo is great! I took her for "Business and Professional Communication" there were 3 tests, 1 group project, and a Final Speech. Her grading is cut and dry if you follow directions you'll be successful. She covers all the content in her lectures and her tests are easy even if you barely study. Would recommend reviewing the slides she has.
Loved this class! Professor Deshazo is awesome! Her class expectations are very clear. She sets you up for success with the modules. There are 3 tests (open notes/book), 1 informative speech, 1 elevator speech, and 1 group project. There are also discussions and chapter activities but those are participation grades. I took the online course!
I recommend taking this speech class if you're an introvert! She's an easy grader. She responds to emails. Tests were open notes. Assignments due Tuesdays & Thursdays, most were very easy & could be done quickly. There was a 1 min spch (intro), 5 min spch (can use notecards), & a 30 sec spch, and a group-project (wasn't bad at all).
Prof. Deshazo's class was a breeze. The coursework was easy to keep track of, and her lectures were pre-recorded & accessible. There were 3-4 exams, 1 major project, & the final was a speech. A textbook is required but it is easy to find for free online. If you are uncomfortable presenting in person, I would definitely recommend her online class.
I took her class over a year ago, and she's still my favorite professor I've had. The class is challenging but simple if you pay attention and don't get behind. And for an introvert, speech class was terrifying, but she does a great job of making you feel comfortable and not judged. Highly recommend for anyone with social anxiety!
She gives weekly reminders about assignments and course material, which most professors don't do. I took an accelerated hybrid class and her slides and test reviews were extremely helpful. The way her class is formatted is organized, exactly what I look for, and she makes any introvert feel so much more comfortable presenting speeches.
AMAZING, SO SWEET! There's 2 speeches, one research (5-7min), and one introduction speech (2 min I think, P/F based on participation). She's very clear with feedback and quickly answers emails. The exams are ridiculously easy if you study a little bit. Also extra credit options at the end of the course.
I recommend Professor Deshazo, one of the best professors I've had so far. Deshazo is apparent in her instructions and even gives videos explaining concepts and homework. This is a reading class, but all of it was pretty easy. I would retake her 100%. She is also straightforward to connect to and listens with an open ear when you are struggling.
I really appreciated this prof because they looked out for my folks who are anxious speaking infront of the class and truly cares, allowing you to have fun and learn
Plainly, you can't go wrong with Professor Deshazo. Not only is she an expert in communication, but she is also a prompt and honest grader. The latter qualities greatly influence a student's progress, and Professor Deshazo demonstrates attention to your work and consistently encourages improvement.
Awesome professor! Assignments were super clear and made perfect sense so I always knew exactly what to do. She graded fairly and gave helpful feedback. Assignments were always due on the same day every week. She was very understanding and helpful when you asked for help or needed clarification on something. Best teacher I've had at Collin College!
I took this class as a dual credit High School student. This class was well organized, clear with instruction/expectations and followed the syllubus exactly. I appreciate that Prof Deshazo was very clear about extra credit guidelines since in HS the difference between a 96 and a 99 can affect your gpa. I would definitely take a class with her again.
I took the online 5 week summer course and taking it with Professor DeShazo was the best decision I made. There are 2 speeches and 3 tests. Also consists of a few quizzes and discussions. She offers extra credit as well! She is a fair grader and gives great feedback! DONT HESITATE TO TAKE HER!!
Great professor. She uses Honorlock, so make of that what you will. However she is a great teacher and easy to talk to. I recommend her to everyone
Very tough grader. I put lots of effort into all assignments and am barely making an A. I'm usually a straight A student but her class made it hard due to her very strict grading. I took her class because of the good reviews on here, but maybe the online class is different. Be aware if you're taking her online.
only take him if its ur last option, i would never do it again
I couldn't recommend this professor more. The course was well-organized and grading was prompt. We received weekly reminder announcements, and I was never left wondering what I had to do next. I did well because the professor provided all the resources needed to be successful. Don't hesitate to take her class.
please take her!! most of the homework is easy, but be aware of the deadlines as well! her feedback and grading criteria are clear, and was an easy grader.
I loved her straightforward personality. She's funny and makes it very clear what she expects out of you. She can be a bit of a tough grader, but so long as you put in some effort, you should be able to easily pass this class! Highly recommend her.
Only 2 presentations and the first one is a pass/fail. Shes a nice professor and her tests are easy. She posts a study guide that covers everything and since the course material is easy memorizing isn't hard. Should be an easy A as long as you don't forget to turn in your stuff and study a bit before tests.
TAKE THIS CLASS IMMEDIATELY!! I was blown away by how easy this 9 day course was!! Normally the maymester courses are a lot of work, but this one was really easy. There will be a major assignment at the end, but you are prepared for it. The online lectures made by the teacher are amazing. You can submit assignments one day late with a late penalty.
I took this class over the summer, and it was extremely easy. Just a heads-up—she does use Honorlock, but the exams are open-note, and all the answers can be found in the PowerPoints. At the end of the semester, there's one speech to give, but it's very simple.
Lenient on assignments, I submitted an assignment 2 min after the deadline and she didn't deduct points. Just a very easy class in general.
this professor is so sweet and understanding. she doesn't grade heavy and she understands when you go through something. I took her online but it was still fun. there is 1 speech, a group project, and at least 3 tests. she also gives out extra credit toward the end of the semester. take her!
I took this class via the hybrid format. One day was on campus and the rest at home. In-class days consisted of speeches (2) and tests (3). Prof Deshazo's lectures are great. She's easy to listen to, engaging, kind, and funny. Assignments are clear and reasonable. Highly recommend.
