Lot's of adverbs that use the ly suffix
math 1850
if you had him, you will understand, essentially
Essentially, he's basically an OK teacher.
Gives too many examples and hard questions. Lets us out late every freakin day.
he is a very good teacher but he is not fair in the tests
I can't believe he's still teaching...if you had him, you know what I'm talking about!
he ESSWNTIALLY sucks hardcore
He is a horrible teacher, he just goes over examples, it should just be an online class cause he wants you to get everything off the internet. His test are impossible and he grades very very hard. HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!!
I used to love math, until i took his class, he is not helpful at all and i cant stand listening to him talk.
NOt very clear, poor teacher... tests are very hard
Does good examples and is good at explaining things, but tests are very hard.
he repeats like the same thing over and over again, to the point that you can memorize the material. but also, because of that you learn the material easily and clearly. but what i hate was that he lets you out at least 5 minutes after clas ends everyday.
His class is very easybut I have already taken calculus in high school so thats why. For newbie Calc Students I would not suggest him though. He doesn't teach at all. Expects you do get the notes from the internet.
Stay away from him at all cost. He doesn't help you, he repeats the same thing, and don't even try to talk to him during his "hours", because he won't help you. STAY AWAY FROM HIM AT ALL COST!!!
OK. He expects you to do a lot on your own, but his online notes are great. Lots of oppurtunities for Bonus Points. Hard to track down, though for office hours. Tests are a little challenging, especially the Story Problems. Gives a nice curve. OK, if you're willing to work!
does not teach reccommend finding another teacher before its too late
Had this prof in spring 2004. Easily the worst teacher/prof I've ever had. He wanted everyone to get his notes and never touched the $200 book we had to buy. He was also very condensending to the students and reminded us often of how stupid and lazy we were. Do not get this guy.
Awful teacher!! Can't teach, period.
I was warned about him in advance, but I had NOO idea he would be that bad...I dont think it can get any worse. He does NOT teach, all his notes are online, & in class we go over maybe 2 problems and then when class should be over, we are given a bonus quiz that gets us no points. ITS RIDICULOUS!
Sucks Can't tech and won't help Learned nothing
this guy sucks, he's terrible, i had him two semester's ago and i failed cause he sucks so bad. easily the worst teacher at UT
he is by far the worst teacher i have ever had. I learned absolutly nothing, and i think i infact backtracked some in my knowledge of math after this class. Do not take a class with him ever
Literally verbally denounced the class, insisted that he felt the class was a lost cause
jim made it very easy to pass calc 1. infact i got a 100% in his class because he gives everyone the opportunity to get extra credit points. for those of you who failed... you must just be bad at math (failing is next to impossible).
Terrible. I had Trig in highschool and this is the only way I am keeping up in class. If it wasnt for my background Trig knowledge.. and I had to learn it straight from this guy?? No way. Id be failing.
The bonus points make the class easy if you can teach yourself or know what your doing before you go, if you actually want someone to teach you, pick a diff professor.

Ok, forget anything anyone has said about him. What i'm about to say trumps all his other BS. Had him not this past spring but the spring before... Gave an exam the day back from spring break... He's rutheless.
Jimmy Anderson doesn't know anythign about teaching. Get another professor to learn this. He's demeaning and inept.
He doesn't know how to teach. He will ask you to work out a problem on the board and then after you are done he goes through and changes everything to his specifications and belittles you in class. I only went to two classes a week and pulled off a B+ only because I was taught this stuff in high school
Horrible teacher, doesn;t even explain things, went to see him during office hours, he was on the phone and closed the door on me- i hadn't even talked to him yet! Wouldn;t recommend him to anyone! The 5 kids that passed were the ones who taken AP Calc in high school.
Teeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiibbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbblllllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!!!! TURN AWAY NOW!!!!DO IT!!! You will seriously become dumber after taking his class. He shouldn't be teaching.
Very poor professor. Almost impossible to get a decent grade through his class. Also, seems to care little for his students.
This professor is the worst teacher that i have ever had. i used to love math before this guy. i've never heard a teacher call a student "stupid" before him. if you have his class, be forewarned, he hates to teach and is lazy. Have fun with this guy!
A decent professor, exam 1 was a weekly quiz worth 1 each and the ability to get .5 point by going during his office hours and have him explan your errors. class was somewhat rushed (summer Session) but would recommend if your willing to put forth the effort
Hard to pay attention to during class but helps go over tests after class.... If you skip, it's hard to catch up to what you're learning and you lose credit
Do not take this professor!!!!
He is a ****
He's a HORRIBLE teacher! He embarrasses students and tells them that they're stupid. He based my entire grade on ONE comprehensive exam! !!!!!DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF!!!!!
I dunno what everyone on here is smoking but jim's class wasn't bad at all. your grade is made up of daily quizzes. and You can find old quizzes with the same exact questions on the website. He also gives extra credit. Can be a jerk if you ask questions though.
Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had, he is very rude to students when asked questions and manages to make the easiest equations last FOREVER due to his poor teaching skills. He cannot teach and should be banned from the university.
He's alright overall, he can make comments that seem to be putting down the students but overall I don't think he really means to sound mean or harsh. If you write down the notes and examples he puts on the board and review them before each daily quiz this class is a PIECE OF CAKE! If you don't get something he has office hours throughout each day.
Great teacher. Understands materials and can explain them clearly. Very helpful outside of class as well. Will go out of his way, just to help each student. Use office hours!! only bad thing- uses funny analogies to compare math to real life situations.
Jim is an interesting professor. You have a daily quiz at the end of almost every class, and they can range from being super difficult to an easy 9 points. I was not a big fan of his teaching style, and how he bases your final grade on one exam. As long as you don't miss class more than 4 times and study hardcore for the final, its a piece of cake.
He is the WORST professor on UT campus by far... He seems hes passionate about his subject, which he is, but he cannot teach clearly to students. So unless you feel like spending many hours getting helped from other sources, i do not recommend him for any subject
One word " Maysuremint" Jim is a cool teacher he's helpful and his class is an easy A as long as you go every day to take the daily quiz. I would reccommend him!
AWful teacher. Very rude and not kind to any students. very passionate about his subject but very hard to understand. I would not recommend this teacher at all. On the quizes you don't get partial credit, you have to have exactly what he wants or its wrong.
I've never had so much problems learning in a math class. I failed the class then re-took it online over the summer. I learned more and covered more in the short amount of time and passed the class with a B+.
avoid this man at all cost. out of the 40 who started this course. 20 droped/failed before it was over and less than 10 passed. he cant teach, refuses to answer questions in class and does his own ignorant form of clac that will confuse more than help. you can teach yourself more with help from students in the libary learning center
HORRIBLE! do not take his classes! You will end up having to teach yourself most of the material and throughout the whole class period you'll want to just fall asleep because taking a nap would be more entertaining than his teaching.
The worst professor EVER!! He teaches from a computer and he is very confusing because he tries to relate trig to real life. You have daily quizzes and you can't use any notes and you can't use notes on the final. Its his way or the highway. He says "simply" and "maysurement" too many times. You pretty much teach yourself.
Had Jim for Calc I. Has a strong desire to help students. All of us his previous quizzes and finals are available on his website, with solutions worked out for the old finals. Spend the time and effort to download them and study them. Thought the grading was fair. I understood his explanations. Caution: He is incapable of a short answer to a ?
Does not use the book, and very hard to follow during class, would not suggest him as a teacher
Not a very good teacher Personally, I went to every class and used it as a study hall. Attendance is a must because he gives a quiz every day at the end of class. If you do the homework (questions that are exactly like the quiz) go to class (even recitation because it counts) and get help from the tutoring center at times of need, you will be fine.
This professor does not know how to teach a class and I have gotten all the problems right on the daily quizzes and just because I don't do it his way then he gives me half credit on the quiz. How can I do it his way when he doesn't teach it...
He is really smart, but he speaks on a higher level than I can understand easily. Do the practice problems and visit him in his office; he really does want to help his students.
He is, in my opinion, one of the worst math teachers I've ever had. He's completely monotonous, says the same (not funny) jokes over and over again, and takes points away if you don't do a problem exactly the way he wants you to do it. He uses his own notes, which have more words than actual mathematical symbols. In my opinion, keep away from him!
Jim Anderson is the best math teacher I have ever had. His jokes may not be the best but he explains the material in a way that if you can't understand it you truly have a learning disability and should seek help. I wish I could take all my math classes with a layout of the online lectures as he created. I give him an A++++ for his teaching ability
He teaches math in a way that is (most the time) not understandable. I feel he complicates things. Go to class, and do the home work, youll get an A.
Horrible professor. He doesn't do daily quizzes anymore but instead daily homework. It's really easy though if you don't do it his way he takes off points. All he talks about is Vito's Pizza, 1-800-FLOWERS, and giving money to see something impossible. All he does are examples from his notes in class.
Only able to pass because of my previous background in trig. He compares everything to running around a track
He has the most boring voice I've ever heard. He literally repeats everything he says. To help keep me awake in his class, I would count the number of times he said the same thing and see how long it took for him to repeat it. Not joking. He rambles A LOT and makes no sense. - I agree with everything previously stated by others.
This guys has the worst case of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder i've ever witnessed. I think our TRIG was dumbed down for anyone to understand that stayed awake or showed up to class. He progressed thru TRIG at a snails pace. Exam was easy but a bit long for an hour session. homework due daily but only 3-6 questions. always did it 30min before class
Has OCD. Is also obsessed with "protractors" and "vito's pizza." Staying awake in his class should be an Olympic sport because of the difficulty. Find another teacher or you will regret it!
Trigonometry is a pretty easy concept to understand. The homework was relatively easy, but the grading was very strict.
Great teacher! if he doesnt take it slow enough in class take the time to go to his office hours. He's very down-to-earch and very helpful. Loves math and strives for all his students to know the materials
no math class is easy if you dont try a little. its not college algebra. or math for the liberal arts. so as long as you care for your own personal education and dont mind going to class then this class is a walk in the park. explains everything fully and cleanly. IF you have difficulty, go to office hours. he's always willing to give extra help
Ridiculous professor. Makes class unbearable and grades really strictly. Would not recommend at all, as there are many better professors out there.
He is a very nice guy but when it comes to teaching, he is not what most people would want or need. Every class consists of doing in class problems, with no lecture. If you do not understand something, then office hours are a must considering there is no book use, and he doesn't follow the book either. He is an extremely difficult grader as well.
Not a great professor. First off, his grading is ridiculously picky. Secondly his lectures are just pointless. Terrible analogies followed by useless facts that just confuse everyone. He also is bad with keeping in contact with students. If you already know Trig then you could take him but if not then I'd go somewhere else. Overall rating 1-10: 2.
He's a nice guy that knows ALOT, maybe too much about math. His grading is super strict and he tends to ramble sometimes. Prepare for a reversed class room setting (HW in class, learn it out side of class). His website as a ton of info so you do NOT need the book!
This professor is the worst math professor at the university . If u have him run far far away. He's a creep . He knows his math but he's horrible at explaining how to do stuff. Textbook was never touched. Reverse classroom is hard the only good thing was working with my classmates. If u have him I recommend dropping this class or changing teachers
This was one of my most dreadful classes ever. He does know his stuff very very well, but can't teach it effectively. With reverse classroom, we worked on "homework" in class and learned elsewhere, yet all he did was spend 80% of class talking about vitas pizza and 60K salaries. When he helps on HW probs, he does them for you way too fast to grasp.
Drop the class. He does a reverse class room so you have to learn how to do it outside of class and turn and do the work in the class. He doesnt let you use a calculator on any exam or quiz yet his own lesson plans say to use a calculator. He spends the class period talking about unrelated things and gives you no time to complete your homework
Okay, I'm just warning you. Just don't. He is not very good at explaining things at all. His "reverse classroom" method is nice, until you realize the examples given are awful. He is a very smart guy but his teaching skills are not good. Rumor is he had his teaching licenses revoked from calculus and now he only teaches trig so think about it
Overall the class was not terribly difficult. He is an insane grader. He'll take of 20% on homework papers if you miss small stuff like degree symbols. He is rather annoying with his terrible metaphors.. He knows his stuff though
He is awful. I would take Monday thru Friday 8AMs in the summer before I would take Mr. Anderson's class again. He takes forever to grade test. He only gives you a week notice for tests.
Worst class I have ever taken in college by far. Not that the material was incredibly difficult, but Anderson is a horrible teacher of it. We didn't get to see one of our TWO exams before the final because he takes all the time in the world to grade. Can't explain anything clearly. You teach yourself the lessons online. If you value your GPA, RUN!
Do NOT take this professor! He is unhelpful and confusing. The class is reversed and he is not capable of explaining the material in class when you're doing what would normally be homework. Math is something that I've always acceled at, but I was completely lost in Anderson's class. I went to ask for help in his office hours and he was not helpful.
If you already know trig, take him. If you don't, don't take him. His homework is enough to remember how to do certain problems but not long enough that you hate the subject. I never used the textbook once, though. Save your money and don't buy the textbook because he posts example problems on his website.
Not helpful at all. Grading is extremely picky, if you do any of the work differently from what he wants you can say good bye to a passing grade. He changes his homework types and submission method often.
I took MATH 1330 with him he giving home works after each class his midterm exams are very long and there is no time to do it for sure you will not have time to do it and lose points.
He thinks this class is supposed to be a reverse classroom setting where we teach ourselves. I would rather pay him less or take the class online to not have to be there since he isn't helpful when you are there anyways.
He is useless. "Reverse Class Method" Introduced halfway through the year, broken method. He tries to give you the background of the material through calculus ideas which complicate things without reason. He doesn't explain anything, seemingly out of touch with the world. Book is useless. Worst grade of the semester and it was my easiest class.
Does the reverse teaching. Learn at home and do homework in class. Doesnt work when there are over 30 students. Unclear when explaining problems. Uses terrible analogies. Overall not a very good instructor!!!
He is not my favorite teacher but isn't as bad as people make him seem on here. He is a bit annoying and does do reverse teaching style but if you attend class and do homework you will be just fine.
Reverse classroom method is not ideal, not a bad guy just really useless teaching method. Makes it a lot harder than it needs to be. I would recommend avoiding if possible.
He told me that all my teachers up until I had him taught me wrong and that if I didn't start doing my math work his way id fail hes class. On the final I only had on question wrong but got a B- because he didn't like my work.
He seems alright to me. Homeworks been easy and got 100% on his exam. Pretty much if you show up youll do fine. He teaches the class very slow.
Homework is a must do, screwed myself even though I did fine on all exams.
DOES NOT even qualify as a high school teacher. "Teach yourself lecture outside of class,do homework in class, with homework sent by email" system of teaching is AWFUL. Does not reply to emails, no passion, nothing. Doesnt TEACH, he throws problems in your face w no explanation nor concern if anyone needs help. Id rate him a -50200 if I could.
took his class for trig and did not like it at all, not because of the class itself but because of his teaching method. He drags things out way more than they need to be and then only ends up confusing you with his explanations. Hes also very condescending, often telling the class that if we dont do things his way we basically will fail at a career
This class is not that hard it just takes a little effort. But the professor on the other hand he should most definitely change his teaching method. Its reverse classroom type of class. You do homework in class then lecture by yourself outside of class. You use the calculator on homework but not on exams. Overall bad teacher but good subject.
Honestly, I feel like people's ratings of him are too harsh. His in class lectures are confusing but he posts notes online that help. Also, he gives you access to a pre exam and exams he's given in the past that are exactly like the exams you will be taking. You obviously do have to understand the material and put in work to do well.
Stay Away from this guy..
Overall he's not a bad professor. His lectures are pretty confusing. He goes off on tangents a lot and tells terrible jokes which just add to the confusion. However all of his notes and lectures are posted online. While his lectures are confusing, he is more than willing to help you out and tends to clear things up pretty quickly.
amazing professor. explains and repeats everything very clearly until you really get it. He has a great personality and tests and homework are very fair. As long as you pay attention and do the homework ( one per week about 3 to 4 short questions) you will do great. NO BOOK NEEDED! he really is passionate about math and his students which is fun.
Mr. Anderson is the perfect storm of awful. I received a decent grade in this class from prior knowledge and reading the book, Jim was no help. He uses a "reverse classroom" teaching method that is bizarre and does not work. Avoid at all costs!
I went into this class not even having the unit circle memorized, but - despite what everyone says about his "reverse classroom" teaching method - if you put in the effort to memorize it, do the homework, and ask him for help when needed, you'll smoothly sail through this class. Grading is picky but you won't have a problem if you do all the above.
Awesome guy just not a very good teacher by no means, I know a good chunk of trigonometry and about three lectures in he lost me with his bizarre teaching method. Don't take him unless you're ready to teach yourself
he is the worst professor ever. stay away from him at all costs. 10/10 would NOT recommend. he does not know how to teach.
He uses a reverse classroom technique, so you learn most material on your own. I found this useful because I got to go at my own pace. You'll find yourself looking up a lot of YouTube videos to learn the material, but if you take the time to learn it and go to lecture, the class is not all that hard. He's a good guy and clearly cares about kids.
Class wasn't that bad but he demanded no calculator for the test and then gave you super hard questions. When you email him about ur final grade he refuses to say a word because of "FERPA Laws" I would not recommend unless you're good at math. He also took off points for the dumbest reasons on test.
To be completely honest he doesn't even deserve a 2.2. This is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. I'm a good math student and I got a C in his algebra class after getting an A in calculus last semester. It's his way of the highway. Save yourself from paper hw and unclear direction/help. He made me feel stupid
BAD BAD BAD AWFUL . Very unclear, and NOT organized at all. Doesn't put grades in until after each of the three exams. after my first exam I found out i was failing because homework was taken for a correction grade, after the hw was graded, THEN he would teach the topic of the homework. Be sure to read out of the book in order to understand.
Professor Anderson is THE BEST! I don't know why he has so many poor reviews. He explains homework very clearly, and puts lecture notes and explanations online with very helpful graphing animations. He willingly answers every question thoroughly and does not belittle the students. He is encouraging when he "rants" about life. 5-star guy!
during lectures doesn't really teach you the material, instead he just talks bout non-related things. helps you when there is about 5 minutes of class left.
Jim is not a bad guy. I met him many times to improve my homework scores and discuss exams. However, when lecturing he speaks a lot and is very hard to follow. He docks points for everything, even if you show work and get every single answer correct. Trig was easily my lowest grade of the semester, yet I found the content easy. That says something
Thinking about taking one of these classes? Do yourself a favor and don't. This is the worst professor I've had the displeasure of meeting. Thought I might not make a test for a close relatives funeral. He told me i would get an incomplete if I missed it . Takes points off if the work is not completed his way.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!! His lectures are of no help and he makes everything harder than it needs to be. Trig is easy but he makes it feel like its rocket science. His exams are insanely hard because he takes off points for LITERALLY everything, even if your answers are right. I'll be lucky to pass with a C- even though I passed college calc
This class is not worth it. It is a required subject, but this teacher makes what should be a simle subject and makes it as complicated as he can. Be prepared for 9 assignments a week. 3 due a day. Instead of using Algebra to help explain the math he uses calculus. All in all not a class worth taking or worth the stress. DO NOT TAKE!!
If you pick Jim as your instructor for class, be prepared to learn absolutly nothing about math and be ready to hear a bunch of side conversation that relate noting towards the subject you are learning. He will give you work based on a subject you have never learned and expect you to automatically understand it. I 100% DONT RECOMEND TAKING HIM!!!
My main problem with him is the fact that he grades extremely unfairly, and when I emailed him about it, he completely blew it off as soon as he didn't have a good explanation for grading that way. Do NOT take his class.
Inconsistent with his lectures and gets off topic a lot. Teaches in a way that is very confusing and hard to follow. Very hard to get a hold of outside of class, wont return emails. If class is online for a semester take this class later, in person lectures are a lot more helpful for this type of course and teacher. Overall Was not happy
Grading is extremely hard, marks a lot of points for wrong work, and you have to read between the lines when taking his tests.
A typical straight A student, ended with a B-. Very rude when you ask about the grade you received. Made me cry on multiple zoom meetings. Makes many mistakes grading and refuses to give you the points even if you get the correct answer. Makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Take ANYONE else.
Do NOT take this professor if you are worried about your GPA. I am a straight A student and epically failed his exams. He is an awful lecturer and does not teach good at all. I am a literal math major taking his trigonometry class online, and I had no idea what was going on. He also puts us down and says he would "fire" us if he had the chance.
AVOID this professor at ALL COSTS. He is very confusing and doesn't teach the material. I taught myself everything and failed every exam because he takes off points for no reason. He is NOT NICE and likes to make students feel stupid.
Please don't take this professor; he's not good at teaching. All of his classes are online, and he sucks at technology. When he grades your work, he doesn't explain how you got it wrong. Lastly, he makes things more challenging than it's supposed to be. So during your free time, you will be doing a lot of self-teaching. CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE!!!
awful
Firm believer in reverse classroom, which does not work for me, when I have a disability that causes attention issues. He expects the lectures to be watched outside of class and homework done in class. I think this is an excuse so he can stare down the chests of the pretty girls in the class. Since that's the only students he helps.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take this course. Prepared weeks in advance and never did well on exams, the final is your saving grace. Despite getting answers right he docks points if you don't do it his way. He just doesn't know how to teach, and even the associates and chairs know that as well, and they do nothing about it.
He teaches extremely fast, but rarely gets through the content. He often forgets meetings you set up. I am a very bad exam taker and his only grades are with the exams. If you like to have a lot of time on exams, or need it - go with a different teacher. He gives 1 hour to take the test then goes onto a lecture right ater.
This class is terrible he does not teach well and is very condescending every class period. Very shady and difficult to work with. You must do work the way he teaches, regardless of if you get the correct answer, you will not get credit. Class is listening to a lecture with unnecessary information added, making a difficult subject unbearable.
Jim is straight up just a terrible professor. He grades extremely harshly and unfairly. Took 3 points off of a 5-point question because I didn't put the degree sign in the equation. Thought I aced his exam and got a 26%. Every hw assignment is 1 point, but exams are 100. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. Take literally any other professor.
Whole class is based off 3 exams and bonus points.
He teaches as if you already have a full understanding of the topic. I had already taken Trig and Passed with an A in high school, somehow he found a way to make the same information so much more confusing. If you are a freshman AVOID HIM!! If you have him, good luck and take advantage of the bonus points.
Avoid this professor if possible - he makes a simple subject way too complex. The exams are brutally difficult and he docks points for minor details. Still, Unstuck AI was helpful for preparing.
This professor makes a straightforward class unnecessarily complicated. Avoid at all costs - he's harsh on grading and his lectures don't help. unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for exam prep when I took this class.
