Great class teaches very well. If you attend class everyday you should pass easily.
Very good teacher. You learn a lot if you pay attention to his lectures and that is basically what the test is on (tests are pretty easy!). Also, you have weekly quizzes online that come directly from the textbook so it is necessay to read the text to do good on the quizzes. I recommend him.
This is one of the best professors that I have ever had. He always told it how it was. The tests are tough but if you study the information from lecture you will get a A. Highly recommended!
Online class.A tone of reading,3 papers,a quiz every/wk does not show you what you got wrong unless u go into his office.1midterm,1final both have to be taken on campus.Gives u 2 (78pgs) chapters plus a paper on the same week.Quizes can be confusing.Class is interesting but alot of wrk.Hes ok but has high expectations.I wouldn't recom online.
Clear expectations of students, fair tests and class work.
Professor Biederman is WONDERFUL! He is so clear with what he teaches and is ALWAYS there to help. The class is NOT an easy A, as Psychology shouldn't be! He is terrific and cant wait to have him again!!!
Explains everything very well!
This class is alot of work, you have to put alot of effort into it, online is like teaching yourself so be prepared. Very nice teacher 3 papers, 7 disscussion and 14quizes..
I took it as an online summer class, alot of work! READ the book to get good grades on the quizes.
very good teacher, if you study you will do well. He is probably one of the most influencial teachers ever, if you don't like psyc after his class something is wrong with you
I love this teacher. He knows the material he teaches extremely well and always gives interesting details. He's easy going and is very friendly. I would take another class by him without a second thought.
You can really tell Jim likes to teach. He made the class very interesting. Great teacher! :)
I've taken two classes with Jim (PSYCH 1110 and 2250). He's very intelligent and has a passion for teaching. He lectures the whole time, which can get boring. I highly suggest you attend all classes and do the work. Hw load is light and if you know everything on the study sheets for the test you'll be fine.
GREAT PROFESSOR! This was a fun class and I learned a lot!!
Very great teacher! he is really nice and u can tell he has passion for wat he does i want to take another class with him now!
Jim is a very intelligent, clear-speaking professor. His lectures are long, but always very interesting. His assignments are actually kind of fun and never pointless. His tests are semi-difficult. Studying and being present for lecture is mandatory. Overall, he's an excellent teacher and makes a fun class.
Nice guy, his tests are way too hard and personally, I think he is a little boring. But very nice guy and very helpful. Would take his classes again
He is the best professor I have had in my 4 semesters at AR. Very knowledgeable. He makes the course very interesting. Quiz every week that are easy if you read the material, tests are a bit hard but easily passable. Am taking him again for Abnormal Psych and I cannot wait.
Great teacher! Gives extra credit for attendance, so show up! (15 pts for not missing a day!) Very clear, conise, and helpful when you ask questions. Little homework and tests are lecture based.
Prof is nice and low key. General Psych didn't stress me out, and I had no trouble understanding the material. This is a good course for the beginning college student.
Great Professor. Very clear and understandable. Made class interesting. Weekly quizzes online, pretty easy. No final exam! Gives opportunities for extra credit. Very knowledgeable. Totally recommend him.
Great teacher. I would recommend him to anyone. Just as long as you do the work you will be fine.
easy assignments
I didn't feel like he knew how to use constructive criticism. I had a very hard time understanding him as well, and often felt like he carried away from the topic.
He is very intimidating and I find him unapproachable. This class is ridiculous and his policy for make up exams are even more ridiculous. Hard class, wish I took it with someone else
Got more out of his class than any other psych class! He knows his stuff. Assignments are very clear, and he gives you time to learn from mistakes. Fair grader, and has a quirky but really funny personality. Made class fascinating and fun!
Very helpful. Lots of homework, quizes and CourseMate work online. Be ready to study to keep on track. Pay attention, get your work done and you will do just fine.
Easy class, I found helpful. The course mate was a time filler. I think that is expected in an into class. Online was a breeze.
He was very helpful. Gave extra credit for being at class every day. There was weekly homework and only 2 papers. I would suggest being VERY specific on his assignments. All his tests are multiple choice, and the final is NOT accumulative! I would deffenatly recomend!!!
I found him very helpful and interesting, he kept my attention. Hes an awesome professor.
All I really needed to do well in this course was read the book and take the pre-tests till I did well. On that note I learned a lot about stress relief and still use it today. He also gave good feedback on the papers you did.
Since this was a summer class there was a lot of reading each week and weekly reports. The class was interesting and Jim is a great professor. I am still using many of the stress reduction techniques we learned. Easy and fun class, and you learn a lot too!
I would NOT recommend this teacher if you're taking psych to get an easy A. Tests are extremely tricky and nothing is straight forward. I feel like he intentionally makes his tests so that you think you're going to do well but end up failing. The class average for most tests was below a 70% . Also weekly assignments are more like busy work.
I did not like his Psychology class. The lectures were very long and boring and the tests seem easy when you take them but when you get them back you end up getting a bad grade. Modules are pointless but if he hands out review questions make sure you study those!
He's very boring & monotoned. He does his lectures on a white board & you can barely read his awful handwriting. His module assignments are busy work & don't cover the material that shows up on the exams. He thinks it's funny when people fail exams. I was thinking about minoring in psychology but now I'm not so sure because of him.
A lot of people do poorly in his class because they simply don't put forth the effort. If you show up, study make note cards for tests you should do just fine. He is a tough grader and expects a lot from students so don't be fooled into thinking psych is an easy A. I actually did end up learning a lot in his class. He knows his stuff.
Amazing teacher! The lectures are very clear and he lets you know ahead of time what to study for tests. His class is very interesting
Great Teacher ! His class is extremely organized and the expectations are clear. He responded to emails very fast and was there to help after lectures. Expect some hard tests! If you take GOOD notes then you should be fine.
Great teacher, the lectures are lengthy but he tells you exactly what is on the test. Class is very interesting and only has 2 assignments and 5 tests. If you study for tests it is an easy a!
He was a pretty good professor. I don't know why everyone says the tests were hard. They weren't if you listened in class then you'll do fine. Only two assignments and he spelled out exactly what he was looking for. Made review questions and practice tests before exam that were extremely helpful. Lectures can get a little boring, hang in there!
If you show up and put some effort into the class, you will do really well. His lectures can feel long if you aren't interested in psych, but he tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests and few assignments he gives. He loves students to participate in asking questions, but never puts you on the spot. He's the best professor I have had.
Lectures are long in class especially if you find it boring. In the end it's an easy class as long as you do your work and study you'll do great. Super chill teacher most of the time I was on my phone or not in class and was still able to pass
Loved this class! I had Professor Biederman for Psychology 1100 for almost 4 hours! (He does lectures) and he made it very interesting and had a sense of humor. I would definitely take a class with him again!
Professor really is no help. You can email him, make appointments with him as much as you want, but he simply doesn't know how to word things differently for a student to understand the material and/or what he is looking for in the essay assignments. Professor rushes through chapters like there is no tomorrow and the day after the 3rd chapter; exam
I took this online, and he is very nice, and seems to care for you. His quizzes aren't hard, nor his assignments, but get ready to read a lot. Overall, he was great!
Probably the best professor I have ever had. I also took a stress management class with him. He is extremely knowledgeable and interesting. I love how organized his notes were. If you copy down what he writes in class, you will easily understand when you are going back over it later.
he has really bad handwriting that you cant understand when he is lecturing so you have to guess what he trying to say. I also thought he was really bias also I would never take a class with him teaching me
I had Biederman my first semester here and I'm in my third, but I can say he is one of my favorite teachers. He's very organized and you have to pay attention to his lectures because they help a bunch. You have to read the textbook, but it isn't so bad to read. The class was very enjoyable and easy to understand. Definitely recommend him.
Will be taking Biederman again!
Great professor. His lectures are not the most exciting, but he objectively summarizes the most important historical developments of psychology. His tests and papers are pretty easy, but he is fair.
I am a first year peso student and he is the easiest teacher I have ever had. He gives people study guide questions and offers a review session outside of class time before the test day. That is when you can ask him any questions (even ones from the study guide) and he will clarify anything you ask him. Finished class with 106%.
Was the advisor for the GSA club but quit. To bad. I would have wanted to see him in GSA club on campus. He his very lecture heavy and writes a lot on the whiteboard. Make sure to copy it down before he erases it. There are a couple tests but not to bad if you study before hand. Overall, a amazing professor and is a fun person to get to meet.
First year PSEO student, I've always been used to getting easy A's. First exam- studied a bit, got a 60%. From then on, I started studying a LOT for the exams, and it made life easier. He genuinely cares about the content he's teaching- even if his lectures get a bit boring. TAKE HIM, but study hard for the exams. (Also he grades assignments easy).
Prof. Biederman is one of the best professors! His lectures are amazing, and he really knows his stuff. He is really energetic and loves to answer any question that is asked. If you study for his tests and actually dedicate your time in the subject, you are guaranteed to succeed.
Jim was a great professor. I don't have much interest in psychology but he managed to make it interesting. He's a very nice guy. He gives 5 extra credit points for perfect attendance in between each test, adds up to 25 points, so show up to class! He was a pretty easy grader on the two assignments. Just show up, study and its an easy A.
Jim had a very well designed and ORGANIZED class. He knows what he's talking about so don't be afraid to ask questions, ever! He gives you a very clear outline/study guide to every test and if you take notes, show up to class and try to study what's on the sheet, the class is a breeze. He is a very sweet and quiet spoken but he does love his job.
I wouldnt take a class with him again, just because the way he teaches doesnt fit with my personal learning style. He talks about a lot, but doesnt write much on the whiteboard (doesnt use PowerPoint). Then the questions on the tests he gives us are very specific. Its hard for me to keep note of what is important and whats not.
My favorite prof which also made it my favorite class taken at ARCC. He made the class insanely interesting which made me remember all of the info a lot better. Only used tbook for flashcards to study before tests, aced every test. I honestly think it was a super easy class you just need to take good notes and study a little (i didnt study much)
A great teacher I just wish I took his class in person, I would have gotten an A for sure if I did. I was going through some hardship in the middle of my semester and he was really understanding and worked with my needs. He is big on critical thinking. I do have to say tho, he provides a lot of resources for his online class. Def passable!
Jim is a real beauty. One of the best professors ever! Super kind man, funny, personable, and makes lectures interesting and fun. Take him for sure!
Would not take his class again, his tests are very specific and not all questions are specifically covered. He has very long boring lectures.
Would recommend
I have heard great things about Biederman from friends who haven't taken him online. The weekly quizzes were on super specific information that I had to dig through my notes to find. There were three essays throughout the semester which he gave super detailed feedback on. However, it could be very harsh and you have to follow the grading criteria.
I was so excited for this course, and the course itself was very informational. However, this Professor's testing, grading, and specifically feedback on essays is extremely harsh. The feedback on papers that I got was so critical in a non-constructive way that it was almost personal. I would never take his classes again. Tests were ROUGH, too.
I found his lectures kind of boring, but super informative, so don't skip them. Take good notes, read the book, and you'll be fine. The projects he gives are super easy, just follow the rubric exactly.
Great teacher! Gives VERY detailed feedback on papers. If you take good notes on the lectures, you'll be just fine on the exams. I wouldn't skip class though, he goes through EVERYTHING on the exam in his lectures.
Jim is one of my favorites! All he does is lecture, but it means there is no reading outside of class (although there is a textbook). The projects are clearly laid out. The tests are fairly difficult, but he gives extra credit for having perfect attendance between each test. Take this class!
Jim is fantastic. Outlines exactly what will be on the exam. He sneaks advice that is very beneficial to a new college student into his lectures and ties it to the concept being talked about.
I took him for PSYC 1110 and took him for abnormal psych too. It was a great idea, he is so thoughtful and interesting when he is lecturing. Provides in depth information into every topic discussed, and is always willing to answer more questions. I do not think I could recommend someone more, he is such an easy going guy!
Great teacher and lecturer. Fun to listen to. Fairly easy tests and assignments.
Show up to class, pay attention, you'll pass. He gives out really good information and cares. There were only two assignments and they were pretty easy, just give it a shot and you'll be fine. If you don't listen in class you won't do well on the tests which are the bulk of your grade. An A is pretty easy to get if you learn well through lecture.
Only 4 tests and 2 assignments! He's a great professor and is very organized. Very lecture heavy and can get boring at times but you can really see he loves psychology. He gives extra crefit on tests for having perfect attendance which is amazing!
He couldnt have been a better professor for me but if lectures dont do it for you, you may struggle. His study guides are exactly what you are tested on so use those then taking notes. I liked my experience so much I took his abnormal psych class as well!
He was extremely unapproachable and unhelpful. There was an issue with the bookstore at the beginning of class where I wasn't able to get the book on time. The bookstore told me professors would be "understanding". He was anything but understanding and I was penalized for something I had no control over. His online webpage was hard to navigate too.
He was very intimidating, and his feedback on reports was the opposite of constructive criticism. It was incredibly harsh and rude. The worst part was that you can get a good grade on the papers, but will be depressed from his harsh feedback. Total Mind games.
I took Stress Management as a 6-week summer course. Do the work adequately, and it's an A or B class. Lots of discussions which I didn't love, but they were easy enough. 5 Exams and 4 projects throughout the course. Start on projects ahead of time, as he can see when you've accessed the audio recordings and will dock you points for dishonestly.
This professor was actually a pretty nice guy. He gave us plenty of information to succeed on our quizzes and there was only two exams and two projects. The projects were not too difficult and he gave us over a month to do them. He gives some pretty harsh feedback but still a good grade he just wants you to learn for next time.
Only 2 assignments and 4 tests including the final. very very hard tests with difficult wording. he puts 3 chapters into a test which is too much information to remember at a time. also doesn't communicate with students when it comes to grading. I asked for a 12-hour extension on a paper he granted it and still has not graded it, it' the last week.
Very boring and most of his lectures are over an hour long and his voice is very monotone. Weekly discussion posts and replies are due and weekly quizzes. The book reading is very long every week as well. Would not take again unless I needed to.
I love Prof. Biederman! He gives good feedback and always chimes in on discussions with something interesting. I usually hate doing online discussions but the ones in this class are actually pretty fun and get good conversation going. The weekly quizzes and 3 required papers aren't hard at all if you did the reading and follow instructions.
I really enjoyed my Intro to Psychology class I took with Prof. Biederman. Listening to his lectures/PPs were incredible informational and interesting. One discussion post per week as well as responses to others, end of chapter quizzes, and a few papers. Grading seemed very fair and received feedback that was helpful.
Hands down my favorite professor thus far. He didn't have homework at all, and he was usually able to make time for student outside of class. He was very punctual on grading, usually within the hour after taking the exam. We only had about 7 grades the entire semester, and 2 of those were papers. Seems daunting, but he was a very light grader.
Take him for psychology. Very accommodating, caring and wants the best for all students. Lectures are prerecorded, he posts everything you need to complete for the week every Monday around 8:00am. 1 discussion post each week, reply to 2 classmates, one test by Sunday night and two bigger assignments durning the semester; but those aren't too hard:)
Structures his classes very well and is very clear about assignments as well as quizzes and tests. He gives useful feedback on discussion boards and assignments. His lecture videos are a decent amount of time, but he covers the material very well. Very understanding and easy to reach out to.
I hate courses with a million tiny assignments and class participation grades and this course has none of those. It's a perfect match for my ADHD brain. 4 non-cumulative exams, 2 papers, and a good amount of extra credit (amounts to about 5% bonus). He's a fair grader and the course is very straightforward. Use the exam study guides = easy A.
Very lecture heavy class so beware if that's not your thing. Biederman is very kind, understanding, and passionate about the subject though! He was very lenient on deadlines on the few assignments we had. Super light and easy workload. Just make sure you're reading the textbook if you want to ace the class. Also offers some extra credit options!
He has a very monotone voice, and the class has 4 exams and one assignment. I am not a strong test taker.
Super fun class! You can tell he has a passion for the subject, but if you aren't interested in psychology itself, i dont think the content would excite you as much. As someone who does love psychology, i think he did a really great job presenting, and was more than willing to answer questions, even if not directly related to the current topic.
He's a great professor. I liked how clear the quizzes and exams were. There are only three writing assignments, but he's really honest when giving feedback. I would say take his class because his exams and quizzes are not that hard. The assignments are easy, but you need to read a lot.
Prof. Biederman was really thorough in his lectures, gave meaningful assignments, and provided really clear expectations. He also meets outside of class to explain things. I think if you complete your reading, put effort into the assignments, and participate in the discussions is a pretty easy A. You just have to put in the effort and do the work.
this is genuinely the worst professor i've ever encountered. do NOT take any of his classes. he is extremely harsh and rude. I genuinely think he had it out for me and he hates me. NEVER and I mean never take a class with him. if you wrote him a good review, stop lying please.
He was great! Everything you needed to do was made super clear each week. There were 2 essays that weren't too hard that he gave good feedback on and wasn't a strict grader. 4 disscussion posts every week that weren't too hard either. His lectures were very nice, though I only watched a few and instead read the textbook! Reccomend!
Honestly one of my favorite professors i've ever had. The class consists of 2 assignments and 4 exams, which is perfect while you're taking other heavy classes (nursing prerequisites lol). It's clear he has a lot of passion for what he teaches, and he has an answer for any question you ask. He did review sessions before every exam we took also
I was so excited to take this course as it sounded great, however, this class was extremely difficult. For discussion posts, you may not have to reply to everyone, but you will not get full points unless you read every single student's post (he will know). You can take great notes but quizzes/exams are hard even with them (open notes+proctored)!
Prof is thorough but can be intimidating. Use the study guides and unstuck AI to prep - saved me time. Lectures get boring but he loves psych. Easy A if you put in the work.
He's very particular on everything you do, doxxing points for the dumbest reasons. I had to take two of his classes, required..not by choice, and his classes were the hardest out of all of them. He often accused me of plagiarizing on papers, citing websites I've never seen before, but would never let me explain myself or write a new paper. 0/10.
I've taken two classes with this professor and enjoyed them, but his teaching style def is not for everyone. There were only 2 assignments in the psych class, but the reading can be a little long each week, and the lectures can get pretty long, but overall, he gives good feedback and is very passionate about the subjects he teaches.
Bring a snack, sometimes he speaks monotone and you'll get sleepy.
Professor Biederman's set up is extremely clear and concise. If you follow his study guides and read through all of the instructions on the assignments you should 100% get an A. I recommend taking this class, he cares about you doing well and will set you up for success with minimal effort needed.
Professor Biederman was my first teacher going back to college. Very professional and gives extensive feedback. The feedback was very helpful and even if you didn't understand something he let you know where and how you went wrong. Also gives plenty of opportunity for studying for tests and homework. Best teacher I've had in college. He cares.
Super great professor who gives really good feedback. This class is time consuming with the notes I take, but overall great class and I have zero complaints. As long as you do what is asked you should have no problem in his class.
Open note quizzes. 4+ hours of presentations every week, on top of a discussion and a quiz. For the discussions you not only have to write a post and reply, but you have to read EVERY post. Takes a loooong time. You also only have sunday at noon-midnight to read them. One extra credit opportunity. Very picky, but good and extensive feedback. Chill.
