You dont really need to go to class. The notes are online. The tests are really picky though.
most boring class ever! all of his notes are online, but his tests are like "please state what sentence 3 in paragraph 5 on page 79 said." picky!!!
As long as you go to class and complete all of the readings....this class is pretty easy. He does use exact detail on the test...but as long as you do the readings its nothing new.
You don't need to go to class. All of his notes are online, and as long as you study those carefully you'll do great on the tests. He's a sweet man and seems to enjoy teaching.
makes class interesting and comical at times, online notes, just do all the readings
Class can be boring at times, but the tests are multiple choice and easy as long as you do the required reading. Coverdill is a funny guy
I Love Dr. Coverdill! I took his intro & ended up taking his upper-level just to have him again. I think he's so funny & his class interested me in sociology enough to become a minor.
Sometimes clever, but frequently boring. To get As on the test you should study in depth the review materials he had on the website, and make SURE you know it. Tests aren't easy. He usually lets you out early tho, and sometimes he tells funny stories.
Dr.Coverdill is a good teacher. Very interesting I thought, but then I'm interested in sociology. His tests were hard b/c they were only 40 questions, so if you missed 5, you got a B. My TA made us write papers, but she was the only one(which sucked!) I ended up with a B in the class.
if you follow the study guides and memorize all the answers, you'll do great on the tests. he is ocasionally funny, overall a nice guy. all the notes are online, which is great if you tend to miss classes. very fair class!
He was very clear and passionate about his subject.
Coverdill is fairly easy, all notes are posted on his website, exactly what is said in class is in the notes. Know vocabulary and the printed notes for tests, he tests on every detail of the notes. Also, the reading packet is important, DO THE REVIEW QUESTIONS!!!!
I never go to class, i got a 38/40 on the first test and a 35/40 on the second. The class is sooo easy that if i had gone to class i could have easily aced it, but what's the point? take this class for easy B!
great class. you can learn alot of sociology if your interested, and if you show up for the tests it should be an easy A. plus the man is quite funny, and very helpful towards students, which is surprising considering that the class is 400 people
hes a nice guy and has a lotta stories to tell. the tests are straight from the notes in class and the readers ws questions. i never read the text but i did the review ws that he gives with it. its not a hard class.
He's a great professor. Very enthusiastic about the subject. I could tell he really enjoyed teaching us, and he made the subject interesting. His study guides were very helpful and thorough.
Made a B+ and never went to lecture. I wish I had gone to class because it would have been an easy A+ if I had gone.
Coverdill's really great in lecture. He knows a lot of random facts and studies that aren't in the book. They're really interesting. Going to class isn't that important because he puts all of his lecture on WebCT. I made a B, but I put minimal effort into studying.

great teacher, funny, very into it. breakout groups kinda stink, esp mine cuz it's at 8am on monday, but oh well. i like it, fun. <3

He is a great professor, always cracking jokes during lecture. He posts all his notes online so you don't ever have to go to class except on test days. As long as you do your readings and go over your notes, you'll do fine on tests. Also his test isnt cummilative :)
Professor Coverdill is hilarious and very entertaining. The class is great, but the breakout sessions SUCK. However, he more than makes up for it. I highly reccomend taking him.
I love Dr Coverdill! He's so funny, his class is definitely manageable. I barely ever go to lecture, and have gotten a high A on every test. Just put effort into studying for the tests, and you can get an A. Breakout groups of this class are terrible though, just a waste of time. My advice is to not schedule them for early in the morning.
very interesting and humorous man, makes class a lot of fun(if you go). You dont even have to go if you dont wish to, just do the reading!!
Do the readings ahead of time. Doing all of them the night before the test sucks.. trust me. No surprises on tests, very fair and manageable class.
Sooo easy. Never went to class, just printed notes off line. Break out discussions are okay. One of the easiest A's I've ever gotten. TAKE HIM!
Coverdill is a funny guy so lectures aren't a complete drag. As long as you keep up with the notes and the tests, it will be an easy A. You definately dont have to go to class, just the breakouts. He uses the point system though, so everything counts. just dont slack off!!
great class. interesting material and interesting teacher! he's great with his lectures. always makes the class laugh and his tests are more than fair enough. he gives you study guides for each exam with no surprises on the tests. take him if your going to take sociology!
LOVED this class, and loved him! seriously my favorite teacher i've ever had. he is so funny, we just sit there and laugh the whole time. you really have to study for the tests though. also the class has changed since a lot of the other comments, there aren't breakouts and he doesn't put lectures online.
Reaaly nice, funny guy. There are no longer breakouts, so going to class is kind of important. The test are easy if you go to class, memorize his examples, and do the study guide he puts online. Class his enjoyable because of his easygoing, humorous personality.
a lot of reading. nice guy but really boring. would of rather taken a easier A class than this one.
Did not enjoy class- very boring. Coverdill an awesome professor, easy to comprehend. I dad a really difficult time as a freshman coming in w/ no studying habits and never read frm a textbook- his class challenges that. Made C- as final grd cause A LOT of boring readings and memorization- but, if u're used to a lot of readings, highly recommend.
it is suppose to be an intro class and he treats it like a major class. SO BORING! try not to get him. No extra credit and is proud of that- stiff personality one on one!
Coverdill is such a goof-ball. His class is somewhat easy, but a lot of reading is required. His tests are fairly easy...he is pretty much clear in lecture...but gives a lot of notes!!! Class is extremely boring but his occasional jokes helps to keep us on our feet...overall good class..!!
Tests consisted of reading material from the book, from online selections, and from notes. Class is kinda boring, but if you go to lecture and at least read over the readings/notes, you'll do fine. The tests are very straightforward and he doesn't try to trick you. I ended up with an A-, only studying the night before tests.
I enjoyed this class, even though at times it could become a bit boring. But since Coverdill is such a goofball, it made it an enjoyable class. I think the class is only hard when you dont do your readings or take good notes...if you do all the readings and study well, you should get a good grade.
LOVE THIS GUY. He's hilarious and goofy. Class can be a little boring sometimes but his personality makes up for it. Gives study guides that help a lot for the test so if you do them you should do well. A lot of material on them comes from the book and other readings. No attendance but going to class helps
Coverdill is the best professor I had at UGA. He's hilarious and he appreciates a student who at least tries. He DOES give extra credit in the form of papers you can write for extra points. I made a B change to an A- because of these papers. TAKE a class with Coverdill, you'll love him!
You HAVE to take this class with this professor (im sure it would be different with another teacher) He is HILARIOUS, class is purely lecture/discussion and very interesting. He will work help you any time you need clarification
coverdill is a really great teach. i would recommend taking SOCI 1101 to anyone because you can def get an A in there, but you have to realize that its a lot of reading that you actually have to do in order to pass the test and he takes attendance everyday.
He takes attendance every day & if you miss too many he actually deducts points from your grade. There are about 6 online readings per test which are so boring(this is in addition to the textbook). The tests aren't as easy as you would think, just like the class. I thought it'd be an easy A & ended up with an A- going to class everyday & studying.
I seriously loved this class. He's hilarious most of the time, and when he's not, he's still interesting. There's enough extra credit opportunities to boost your grade almost a full letter grade. There's a lot of reading, both from the text book and online, but it's all fairly interesting. He makes coming to class fun.
...like if you dont seriously kiss some butt your get a 2/5 and if you write to well they will say "hard to follow bc vocab use" and put 1/5 SERIOUSLY WE ARE IN COLLEGE! and then the test are complete garbage bc they are from text info that is not covered so no one knows that to read and the voice omg the voice drove me up a wall!sounds cartoonish
His class was pretty good. He posts very specific study guides before each test listing concepts and pages to find them, as well as study guides to the other readings. Attendance required, but offers extra credit for coming and for doing writing assignments. He's kinda goofy and he seems genuinely interested in what students have to say in class.
Tests are made up of his lectures, text, and long articles he posts online that are totally irrelevant. His lectures and the text do not coincide, so the studying process takes longer. He's funny in class, but attendance is mandatory and would often call out people in class who he thought wasn't paying attention. I would not recommend him.
I was surprised at how interesting organizational sociology is! Well-planned class, but Coverdill can be quite egotistical and arrogant. Fairly humorous, but tends to treat adults like subservient children. Overall, an informative class and pretty fun. I learned, but he's not my favorite professor. WOuld take another prof if I had the choice.
Took this class as an upperclassman. Typical freshman class-- REALLY easy. Recommended.
Coverdill is a really easy professor! attendance is required; never missing=extra credit points. study guides are exactly what is on test. one paper, but 4 opportunities to do it and if you do 2, 3, or all 4 you get extra credit for the extra ones. I never took notes and didnt pay attention and got an A. highly recommended!!!
There is a lot of reading required for this class, but also tons of study guides. Lecture can be dull with all his examples, but overall I loved this class so much.
Mr. Coverdill is a good professor, and he keeps class interesting by making jokes (often at the expense of those who talked or left during class). There is a lot of reading you are supposed to do, but if you study his questions online they give you a good idea of exactly what to expect on his tests.
Coverdill is really nice and actually very interesting. He has an attendance policy that is gives you room to miss, but rewards you for coming. Come to class and do all the extra credit papers- the extra points really help in the end. The tests aren't too hard, but it is a lot of work. Try and find someone in class to split up the work!
awesome techers, one of the best i have had at UGA. he is very interesting and entertaining. his class is very laid back and enjoyable
He did try to keep things interesting by making jokes, but overall this was a boring class. The tests aren't that easy either. You definitely have to do a lot of reading. I also had to miss class one time for an interview and apparently this was "unexcused". This was irritating. Isn't getting a job the point & end result of going to college?
this class isn't too easy.. definitely learned my lesson from the first test. You HAVE to read all of his 'studies' that he posts on his website or you will most definitely fail the tests. He keeps the class mildly interesting, sometimes it can get boring for 1 hr and 15 minutes.I'd suggest him as a teacher for this class though for sure. just stud

This is an alright class. It is definitely interesting and Coverdill tries to make it funny. But there is a lot of reading involved, all of which you must study for the 4 exams. There is also one mandatory paper. However, there are lots of chances to get bonus points added to your grade and the tests are not difficult if you study--I got an A.
Dr. Coverdill has an obvious passion for teaching. He is personable and easy to approach. However, he has high expectations in his classes and you should not expect just to do the minimum and just skate by. If you put forth the effort and participation, you will be successful.
Dr. Coverdill is a great teacher! He has extensive knowledge in the field of medical sociology, and it shows in this class. His tests and grading style are very fair, but you do have to know the material to do well. Class itself is very interesting. Attendance is taken, but you should go anyway because class always fun :)
He is a good professor. You need to read the readings, but other than that he supplies a lot of the tools to make an A just pay attention and you should do fine.
He is a great teacher! Attendance and participation are part of the grade but he is pretty relaxed about it. It's very easy to succeed in the class if you do the reading. I highly recommend Dr. C!
Coverdill is awesome, he really helps his students do well and he makes the lectures super interesting! His tests are easy if you do the extra readings and study hard. The final is optional and it's all textbook and replaces your lowest grade, also he gives a lot of extra credit by doing papers and attending class regularly, definitely worth it!
Coverdill is really funny and amusing, but if you can read there isn't really a reason to go to class. He doesn't really add anything to his notes and he types up notes for all the units for you. The extra readings and textbook readings are important and helpful. He also gives you a list of things and practice questions from the book for the test.
This class is so easy. As long as you read the extra readings, lecture notes (that he provides), and do the practice questions at the end of the book that he assigns, you should make 95-100 in his class. Dr. Coverdill is so smart and funny. His class is easy. TAKE HIM!! NO quizzes, only 4 tests and optional final.
Really Nice Guy. For the tests, you must study the lecture notes, extra readings, and quizzes in the back of the book. Attendance is basically a test grade, so you have to go. He also gives two extra credit opportunities that give you an easy way to get points. Take this class. Professor Coverdill is the man.
This class is not an easy A. The reading load is extremely high for a 1000 level class. For each test you need to study 20-30pgs of his notes, 4-5 academic journal articles, 60 pages of textbook material, and roughly 100 questions from the back of the textbook. Its a ton!
I took this class to fulfill a Franklin requirement and to prepare for the new MCAT. He fills his class with examples relating to the health care field so if that's not what you're looking for then this class isn't for you. You also need to study EVERYTHING for the tests. There is a ton of reading but if you read everything then you'll do fine.
I really liked Dr. Coverdill. He understood that an FYOS class should not require as much work as a regular class and graded mainly on participation. He is a genuinely nice guy who had a fun class & likes to help kids that show up prepared and who participate. I really enjoyed his class and would definitely recommend him as a professor in general.
You can miss up to 10 classes, but there are bonus points for not missing much. Coverdill is awesome. Best professor I have ever had at UGA. His tests are literally all word for word questions from the textbook (which is free and online) and the lectures which he posts on elc. Take him.
Dr. Coverdill has a monotone voice, but that is the only bad thing I can say about him. There is lots of reading, but if you do everything he says to you will succeed in the class. He loves to answer questions and make his class better. The content is interesting and very applicable to life. If you do what you're asked you will be fine!
He's a funny guy & is interested in what he teaches. Classes aren't always super interesting, but if you read the notes he posts, skim the articles and memorize the online questions, tests aren't very hard. You get bonuses for the less class you miss. You get grades from 5 of 9 discussion session quizzes and 2 of 4 essays. I'd take it again.
This FYOS is a lot of reading articles and discussing them. There are two papers that just sum up what we talk about, and no textbook that you have to buy. Also, Dr. Coverdill is a great teacher and a really entertaining person. I could not recommend this class more. I really enjoyed this class and I would definitely take him again for anything!
He is great, he makes class fun. His tests aren't bad, easy B, but you need to work for an A. His papers are difficult but you are not going to bomb either if you put any effort forth at all. There is a lot of reading but its pretty interesting.
Dr. Coverdill is hilarious and his lectures are relevant, interesting and easy to follow. It's not a hard class - half of the questions on the test are straight out of the textbooks and he posts his lecture slides. They take attendance every day, but you get bonus points the less classes you miss. Take sociology and take it with him!!
He is a very kind guy and very funny, but his lectures take some getting used to as they are very material heavy and filled with dense example cases. Tests are about half questions straight from the back of the textbook and then 1/4 from the readings (I would recommend doing the readings on time and taking notes) and 1/4 from the lectures.
I really really liked taking sociology with Dr. Coverdill. I had a big lecture class, but he was so engaging in lectures that I could almost always pay attention. He also puts all of the notes, articles, and plan for each unit online, so that helps a ton. The attendance policy was really reasonable, and he offered extra credit for good attendance.
Discussion sections require attendance and participation, but are easy. Tests are split into three parts - lecture, reading, and textbook questions. Lecture and reading questions are hard to study for but textbook ones are easy and the final is only textbook questions which is super helpful! Extra credit for good attendance.
I would definitely recommend Coverdill's class. It isn't hard and attendance is only mandatory for the discussion sections. Tests aren't too hard and there is one mandatory paper but its not bad. The only downside is the lectures are SUPER boring. He can be funny at times, but I couldn't ever focus because I was so bored. Pretty good class overall.
Dr. Coverdill is a nice guy. He is very funny and lectures are engaging. The course should be an easy A, but don't be too confident. The class is graded on a point scale out of 700 and I was 3 point (0.42%) from making an A, and there is nothing I can do at this point to get those three points. Overall, I would recommend, but beware.
Dr coverdill is very funny and makes the lectures interesting. A lot of online reading and quizzes, but they are only graded based on participation so it is very easy. A lot of test questions come straight from online reading questions. awesome and easy class!
Really interesting material, but he's pretty monotone. You definitely have to work for an A in the class and take it seriously. Dr. Coverdill is very nice and funny but not super fun to listen to. I would take it again, but it was tough
-Takes attendance EVERY single day in class -Mundane lectures -Ridiculous tests -Discussion quizzes every week -6 Papers during the whole semester Do not take this class. coverdill is respected, but his class is really lecture heavy and there is too much work for an intro class. I get stressed every week taking the quizzes, and no ec
Long lectures, but he tries to make them funny. There's a bunch of assignments for this class and attendance is mandatory, but you have everything you need and he lays it out fairly clearly. I would take him again if I had to.
He does a great job of making a lecture class seem smaller. He engages the class during the lectures so that people can make comments and ask questions, and there's a discussion section that is helpful. His lectures are interesting usually, but sometimes they can seem long. It's not too much work though, and lots of resources on eLC to help you.
Dr. Coverdill is a great professor who genuinely cares about his students. He's a very nice and hilarious man whose lectures do get a little long, but he keeps most of them interesting. Discussions in class are very thorough and he often gives his input so you're never going to be in the dark about anything. He's great!! Take him!!
Dr. Coverdill is a great guy. He engages his students and cares about his material. Definitely a fantastic professor through and through. Some people struggled, but that's only because they didn't do the work. Simply do what he asks and you should have no problem getting an A. Do the reading and look over the lecture notes and you'll be fine.
Dr. Coverdill is a funny guy who you can tell loves sociology and wants to make it interesting to learn. He uses good expressions and does his lectures very well. Tough class for me because it is a lot of information to take in and know before tests. Interesting class with moderate amount of work and pretty good amount of studying for the average.
I did the whole semester worth in a month for Freshco which was a little difficult but if I would've done it throughout the actual semester, it would've been great. There is a lot of online reading and participation matters but definitely doable and he's super caring and funny!
There will be an exceptional amount of reading needed in order to succeed in this class. It can be overwhelming if you allow yourself to get behind. However, as long as you pay attention during lecture, keep up with reading the chapters, and retain terms and definitions, you should be fine. I found making a Quizlet prior to each exam to be helpful.
There is a lot of reading required to do well in this class, but nothing that is unreasonable. The supplementary readings are pretty interesting and the textbook chapters you need to read are available on eLC. Tests are straightforward and making Quizlets has proven to be pretty effective to prepare for them.
Lectures are not intellectually stimulating at all, very mundane & seem directed at a class of 7th graders. The tests are ridiculous & based entirely off research articles, only 2 of which are discussed in TA breakouts (which are used only for this, never for reviewing other material). This class was a huge disappointment, would never take again.
Intro sociology wasn't too hard. All tests are multiple choice and the weekly quizzes in discussion sections aren't bad if you skim the articles. There's 4 tests and a cumulative final which is kinda alot. You can skip lecture and be fine cuz notes are online. Definitely recommend. He's friendly and lectures are not too boring or difficult.
Tests are weighed very heavily. Normal assignments are worth 3 points, but the tests are worth 132, and can really effect your grade because they're very hard to study for, given he pulls 44 questions from the articles you have to read, the textbook, and his lectures.
Dr. Coverdill was great! SOCI1001 was an interesting yet easy class to take. He was incredibly reasonable and very respectful to his students' concerns. Because our final was on the last day, he gave us the option to take it early which was great! In the end, the final was super easy and made for a relatively stress free class! Great class
Great professor. Lectures are long but he makes them funny and entertaining. A lot of reading but all of the articles (and the textbook) are easily accessible online. Tests aren't easy so be prepared to study a couple days in advance but almost half of the questions come straight from the textbook. Homework is online and isn't hard at all
Dr. Coverdill is a great teacher. He is really thorough and it is clear that he really knows what he is talking about. He is available for any questions, and tries to make the class entertaining by interacting with the students and applying what we learned. Stay on top of all the readings and make sure you get all of your Tutor assignments done!
the class in itself is interesting and dr. Coverdill is pretty nice. You get the textbook online for free. BUT, prepping for test required alot of reading and you needed to know specific details from lecture, the textbook,&5-7 articles. It was a more effort than anticipated but enjoyable. if you have more than 6 absences, lots of points docked.
Two parts to this class: lecture and discussion. You go to lecture twice a week and a discussion class once a week. The lectures are easy and Coverdill is funny. The discussions are engaging. There's online homework that is only graded for participation. You have to write two 3 page papers but they're easy. Only three tests and an easy final.
Dr. Coverdill is an excellent professor, and you'll never be bored during his lectures.
Dr. Coverdill was awesome. He was super funny, and he tried to make the lectures interesting. The tests were easy, and there wasn't a ton of homework. I would definitely recommend taking this class, especially since the textbook is free.
He's the type of professor everyone deserves to have. He really cares about his students and really wants everyone to pass so helps us as much as he can (lenient grader, gives test topics ahead of time, etc.) There's a lot of discussion, but he makes it super easy for everyone to participate. By far my favorite professor so far.
Dr. Coverdill was a great professor. He made sociology interesting and captivating. The class was not particularly hard, but you gotta put the work in to get an A. He pools questions from lecture, textbook, and readings. His tests are fair and he does assign homework everyday, but it's not too bad. Reading quizzes are easy too. Highly recommend.
I absolutely love him! He's so incredibly nice and if you participate he will try to get to know you. Never skipped a single class because I just enjoyed going. There is a textbook, but he goes over the chapters in class. The only thing you read are articles he assigns for reading quizzes, which are super easy.
Would totally recommend him! Although there was a lot of reading to do, I learned a lot and enjoyed his lectures very much. I wouldn't say it's an easy A but if you are ready to read and study, you will do fine.
Great professor and cares about student success. Readings for the class are well-thought out and interesting, tests are not difficult as long as you study the day before some. Runs class well with discussions and his lectures are kept interesting, he's very knowledgable.
Dr. Coverdill was an incredible professor, makes an intro-level lecture class interesting and fun and is genuinely a sweet guy. He's negotiable when it comes to grades and is always willing to meet up and discuss your grades. Attendance isn't necessary but hard to do well without it. I hope I get the opportunity to take him again.
I just took this class my first semester and absolutely loved Dr. Coverdill. He has been amazing. I really enjoyed learning sociology from him. The class is organized and the material isn't hard. No final is a bonus. There is a little bit of reading but all very manageable. He is willing to go the extra mile to help a student outside of class too.
I really enjoyed the class and Dr. Coverdill is great, but I wasn't prepared for all the reading, and that's just on me. Put in the work and you'll be fine!
Dr. Coverdill is super caring & accommodating. The class is well organized; there's a lot of reading. Your grade consists of quizzes (which aren't hard) & short writing assignments. Participation is a must but the class is interesting & engaging so you shouldn't have any trouble contributing to discussion. He also brings his dog to class sometimes!
If you can take another professor, do. He gave out primarily Bs for an introductory humanities class. The reading is hard to manage and his test questions focus on minor details in 40 page long chapters. He is unwilling to help outside of class and does not put his students best interests first.
Dr. Coverdill is a great professor, and he truly cares about his students. I found the course content to be very interesting and engaging. This class involves participation through class discussions. Readings are assigned for homework everyday. Tests and reading quizzes are fair and not difficult as long as you study beforehand and come prepared.
Professor Coverdill is extremely helpful for tests and quizzes. You should participate in class as you are graded on this but it is easy to get a word in for this credit. He is so nice and loves to talk! I recommend him for Intro Sociology or any other class.
TAKE DR. C!!! Honestly one of the best professors I've ever taken. His lectures were all interesting and is an all together funny and great guy. Really enjoyed the class, and if you put the work in, its really easy. Consisted of reading some articles and taking SA reading quizzes (which he provided questions beforehand), 2 papers, and 4 tests.
Super fun and engaging. A good bit of outside reading but on interesting and meaningful topics. Tests are very fair.
Dr. Coverdill was probably my favorite professor I had my first semester of college. He kept his lectures entertaining and was very considerate and generous with grading. Above all, he's just a good person, and it showed through the way he wanted to get to know us and talked to us like his friends.
Such an amazing professor. It's a writing-intensive course, but if you can write, it's no problem, & his lectures are really interesting. I loved his class, and an A requires effort, but it's not difficult and his exams are relatively easy. He's so sweet and learned, one of my favorite professors.
I recommend this class to everyone. It was my favorite. He is one of the nicest and most caring people I have ever met. His enthusiasm for the content and the course is evident. Everyone is valued in his class. The lectures and discussions are always fun, engaging, and interesting. His expectations are reasonable. I literally have no complaints.
Very nice teacher but his FYOS required far more reading/writing than other options.
Overall Coverdill was a good professor. He is very outgoing and caring, but there were times I was trying to take part in the discussion, and he decided to call me out and say what I was talking about must have been from another class and moved on while I was trying to explain where I got my information from. Made me not want to participate
Dr. Coverdill is a fantastic teacher who really inspires you about Sociology. There are weekly "quizzes" on readings, but he lets the class decide if you want to do them at home (say yes!). They are just 25 min long written reflections. Tests are in class, but on eLC with no lock-down browser. Final paper is also graded easily according to the TA.
Dr. Coverdill does a fantastic job at making this class engaging/enriching for anyone: fascinating, relevant readings, lectures, & discussions. It's work but it's worth it (Tip: study 'decent' textbook questions for tests). He's super personable, funny, smart, & empathetic. Plus, his insight as ex-department-head is so interesting. Take this class!
He's a great option for honors students; I wouldn't say the course was light workload, but its very manageable and interesting. Dr. Coverdill and his TA are very knowledgably about the subject
Awesome professor!
Nicest professor I've ever had at UGA. doesnt make the class harder than it needs to be and work load is reasonable (less than the other honors classes ive taken)
i loved Professor Coverdill! def recommend this class, he is so passionate about sociology & truly made all of the lectures fun (& posts the notes!). weekly reading quizzes, but they're at home so it's chill. make sure you study for exams, but lots of content comes from textbook (decent questions!) or class topics. im a stem major but i loved it :)
Such a great guy who takes time to get to know all of his students! Not a stressful course, notes are posted but make sure to do the textbook readings as they are heavily tested on exams. There are at-home quizzes every week and a final paper. The content was really interesting and we had engaging discussions as a class about the readings/notes.
Dr. Coverdill's SOCI1101H class is a must-take! He makes the material engaging and relevant, with thought-provoking lectures and discussions. While it requires work, Unstuck ai and the manageable textbook make studying a breeze. Highly recommend!
I absolutely love Dr. C! This was my second time taking him, and it was yet again an amazing experience. Class is very discussion based on the readings (1-3 each class) but he guides it in an interesting way. He's also very understanding on out of class circumstances. Amazing professor, cares about his students. Love him to death 11/10 suggest!
I love Dr. Coverdill so much and I can't wait to take another class with him. This class is really not too difficult and there are a lot of quick assignments to boost your grade. He really cares about his students and is an amazing teacher, I highly recommend this class! Easy to get a good grade as well.
Dr. Coverdill was a great first teacher to have at UGA. His lectures were very informative and you can tell he cares. There is a lot of reading, but if you do it you are practically guaranteed an A.
I took Dr. Coverdill's Why Surgeons Struggle with Work Hour Reforms FYOS and really enjoyed it. You have to read an article before class and write two papers overall, but in class it is just a big discussion. You talk about the article and bounce ideas and thoughts off of each other. This was such a fun way to learn. TAKE DR. COVERDILL!!!
He is very nice and a good professor and he is really engaging but this class has an unnecessary amount of reading and the test covers a vast amount of information and the questions are extremely specific, for a introductory class there is so much work and its hard to keep up but other than that the class okay I guess
For an introductory class, this was extremely difficult. There is no assigned homework in the class but an unnecessary amount of reading that you must do if you want to do well on the exams. The exam questions cover a lot of material and questions are extremely specific. He does not like when students got 100 on exams. Take a different professor.
Everyone who says this class is hard has to be trolling. Yes there is a lot of reading, but he literally gave us a free online version of the textbook and every single reading, plus if you actually.. get this..DO the readings, the class is basically a free A. Coverdill is so caring and lenient with attendance as well and is overall such a nice guy!
Dr. Coverdill's class required a lot of studying and reading time outside of class in order to do well on exams. However, he gives you a free textbook and makes his expectations VERY clear. I enjoyed his class so much. He was such a funny and caring guy, and you can clearly see his passion for the field. I would recommend him to ANYONE.
He is very passionate about the subject area and his lectures are very engaging and interesting. Definitely take!
I truly enjoyed this class. Get ready to read - the tests and quizzes are based on ALL the readings he has posted on eLC. It seems like a lot, but the test questions are really straightforward. Professor Coverdill is very knowledgeable and always willing to talk about a variety of subjects, especially medical sociology based on his research.
He's a great dude and cares about his students a lot. The tests are broken up into 40 questions for the lecture and the textbook, and 10 for readings. Make sure you read. He also added an optional final, which is a compilation of the textbook material you've already been tested on, which helped my grade a lot. take him, even if hes a little funky.
