this teacher is a prime example of "thoes who cant do, teach" he was boring, his lectures were long and meaningless. his grading expectations were too lofty for a mand. speech class. He repeated himslef and overemphasised his importance in this world. i would not recomend him to anyone!

Professor Dittus is the worst teacher I have ever had. He makes absolutley no sense and his lectures have nothing to do with the class. I would never suggest taking any class with this professor. Everyone that took speech with a different teacher really enjoyed it...I had a MISERABLE experience with Professor Dittus.

He was the worst teacher I ever had. I have had some bad ones but he is at the top of the list. Their were only 8 kids in my speech class and after the first day I knew why.

He is the one teacher you would think would keep the class going since it is a speech class but he goes on and on about meaningless examples and tells you to keep everyone into your speech but he doesn't even do that. plus you are suppose to be learning how to speak in front of an audience and he does all of it except on speech days.test=hard

I had this teacher for speech 101. I figured I would get a decent grade based on the fact that I never stop talking! He made everyone in the class think that the only important thing while giving a speech is the TIME! I should have dropped his class as the class size dropped from 27-29 to a pathetic 9... DROP NOW WHILE YOU STILL CAN!

I should have researched him before. I've received 2 degrees with high honors and yet probably end up with a C in his class. He is unclear is his expectations and unapproachable.

Never explained anything, I think he just liked to hear himself talk. Did not explain why he gave the grades he did, and seemed to be unhappy with everything. I wish I knew about this site before I picked him. I hope I pass this class because he expects too much out of a beginner speech class.

He is not very precise on what topics to write your papers about. I took him i the summer, and expects too much out of an into course. His expects LONG essays about film and goes really in depth bout a film. STRONGLY NOT RECOMMENDED.

He is not the right professor for community college.He is the one who lives in his academic world for a long time, and he doesn`t know the main purpose for community college education is to put graduates into work force right away.There is a distance between real world and pure academics.The standard he took is for someone professional.

I was excited to take this class, I love film and writing. I was very upset when I received my first paper back with a "C" I know that this is not a horrible grade, but I have never gotten a "C" on a paper before. He gave me low scores the entire semester for perfectly good work that I had even taken into the Writing center to be proof read.

I disagree with the grading as well as the expectations of this professor! I passed my honors eng101&102 with an A. Here I get a C- for the same quality work. The blogs are near impossible to get 4*s. The feedback from the prof is vague and made me feel like I am complete moron. I dislike it when I am made to feel worthless by a professor.

I do not think this teacher knows how to teach a 100 level class. The concepts were not too hard to grasp, but he didn't seem to accept anyones outlook in papers. He would grade blogs as if you should have been a professional film critic prior to the class. Would not take him again if I were paid to. Sad to see teachers like this...

Not good at what he does. He was very dry, very critical, and very impatient. Over half the class dropped it by the end. He was a terribly hard grader, but did not explain ho to make assignments better.

This was the worst professor I have ever had. He was very unclear and not very helpful when I would seek him out.

I was getting like a 3.6 GPA at ECC and he is the only teacher to give me a C. I busted my butt to do good and got two letter grades off my speech because it was 20 seconds to long. Not very helpful and gave vague hints at what to do. I never used this website until I had him as a teacher. Please avoid for your own good.

Truly a great man and worthy of my praise, but I will not waste the space. This class was a real "treat." If you want adventure, if you are looking for challenge with no practical knowledge... this would be your class.

I have never felt the need to rate a professor in my 4 yrs of college until now. I cant even gather the words to describe this man. DO NOT TAKE HIM. I have received all A's & B's from Elgin, yet may not pass this. He is rude, he is the hardest grader I have ever had, his grading system using ** is a joke & I have never been so miserable in a class.

He is by far the WORST teacher I had at ECC. Yet, I managed to pull off A, while the rest of the class got C's or failed. I'm a good speaker so it really helped, and he seemed receptive to my topics. I managed to get on his good side somehow, but take it for someone who actually did well, DONT TAKE HIM. Lol he is horrendous at his job.

Awful teacher. His directions for the assignments are not clear, and he grades too harsh. He doesn't understand that this is a gen ed. Does not reply to emails either.

He is by far the worst teacher to ask for help and he does not give you any extra assignments to help you if you need it. Do not take him.

Terrible feedback for all speeches, pretty clear cut easy quizzes each week online. Pretty harsh grader on the speeches, have them memorized and provide good short speaking notes.

Worst teacher ever. I am an A and B student and I got a D in his class. For just forgetting a works cited page he took off 100 points out of 200. He doesn't explain anything, is such a tough grader and doesn't help you at all. You'd think he'd care how many of his students are failing but he doesn't. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.

I am a A & B student and I took his speech class and got a C. I thought the into to film class was going to be interesting but he made it horrible. He expects everything to be perfect with no mistakes and even when you think you did good on a paper he still ends up giving you a bad grade, which is very discouraging.

If you thought his film class would be fun and not very difficult, the way I did, you thought wrong. He is such a stingy grader and is VERY RUDE. I take school very seriously and usually get A's. I currently have a C in Jim's class. I've asked for help but even after I take his advice my grade does not improve. Stay away, Its for your own good.

I do not understand his grading criteria whatsoever. No rubrics, no nothing. When I turned something in, I would have no idea if it is even semi-correct because he is so vague when it comes to giving assignments. Also, a two thousand word essay is 10 points? Discussions are 2.6 points? Very odd and doesn't make sense

I've gone to him several times along the course of preparing for my speeches and he is inconsistent with his answers, not good with directions, not specific, really rough grader, and spends most of class time lecturing about the textbook.

he just gives long lectures, is very confusing and most of the time talking about himself when he had to give speeches, he doesn't use the book but you have to do the work from the book. he doesn't care about excuses and when you try asking for help he confuses you more then when you started i wouldn't wish him on my worst enemies.

I took his online film class thinking it would be just a basic overview of learning about films, but it was very hard and not at the basic level. He was a very hard grader and didn't seem to understand that it was a film introductory class & we weren't professional film critics. I don't recommend taking his class unless you're a film major.

Absolutely horrible professor. Doesn't give you accurate feedback when you ask for it and gives lectures in class that have nothing to do with the assignment at hand. His tone of voice literally makes you want to slip into a coma. His grading habits are completely profound and inadequate. Do anything to avoid this teacher.

Through out my associates degree at ECC, This professor has by far been the most confusing, tedious and unclear . Although he is a nice guy, i would not recommend him

One of the worsts professors I've ever come across. Tough grader, he talks forever and his grading criteria is all over the place. Communications isn't supposed to be that difficult of a class but he makes it harder than it should be. When you ask him for help he says one thing and then switches it around later. Overall DO NOT RECOMMEND taking!!!!

Horrible teacher, hard grader, doesn't care if you have a personal emergency, talks about 30,000 things and expects you to remember the first thing he said. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!! I do not know why ECC has this proffesor here.

Worst prof ever

TERRIBLE PROFESSOR. MISOGYNISTIC, ARROGANT, BIASED, INCONSIDERATE AND BORING.

DO NOT TAKE HIS ONLINE CLASS YOU WILL HATE YOURSELF!!!! I needed the credit and was forced to take online to get it, but he gives conflicting instructions and feedback, his grading scale is hard to understand, and his tests and quizzes were on things never studied. Save yourself the trouble and take another class or find a different professor!!!

I went into this class after reading his reviews and thinking that people were probably just overreacting because speech is not fun and mandatory. I was so wrong. Jim is the worst prof I've ever had. He does not grade clearly and it is nearly impossible to do well. I have been awarded for speech and had a D, even after meeting with him weekly.

Overall, it was very confusing on what I was actually being graded on. As well as, not getting clear instructions and just be referred to the book.

By far the worst professor I've had. Lectures are unecessarily complicated for a required intro-level class. Speeches are inconsistently graded, he never explains why you received the grade you did, he doesn't inform you of due dates and is basically inaccessible through email.

Jim often lectures about the topic at hand, but gets way too detailed to where you dont know what hes asking of you. His grading scale makes no sense, and I didnt know my grade till half way through the semester. Overall he is unclear and by far the most difficult prof I've had. If you need speech, any other prof will do.

Very unclear grading criteria yet he grades hard. Asked to show me examples to see what kind of work he saw as A worthy and revived a rude response saying he doesnt have any examples. Not an approachable person, and the class kind of sucked. If you miss a class you essentially fail since it's all discussion on the movies. on top of that, he's a super tough grader. I would definitely not recommend him.

Film ap. seemed like a cool class. I was wrong. Jim is an extremely hard grader, and if you don't write your paper exactly as he envisions it, you will probably fail. In addition to his hard grading, useless feedback, and beyond confusing essay prompts, his D2L site had 2 conflicting syllabuses. He's also generally not nice. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!

This professor is really unclear and nothing is ever good enough. Not sure if it is because he wrote the book he teaches. REFRAIN FROM TAKING HIM.

I made an account here just to rate Dittus. His course is extremely syllabus heavy and will not explain anything clearly throughout the semester. In his syllabus, he even says that he will assume we don't understand the concepts and lower our grade if we email him questions. Never seen such instructional laziness. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Dittus is by far one of the worst Professors/teachers I have ever had. He is unclear in his feedback, an extremely harsh grader for the level of the class, and overall he seemed very uncaring towards students. I DEEPLY REGRET TAKING THIS COURSE. THIS PROFESSORS EXPECTATIONS ARE EXTREME. I SPENT HOURS ON PERFECTING MY PAPERS FOR HIM TO GIVE ME AN F. Please don't take this class. He will not grade you on your ability to construct a speech or turn homework in on time. He will knock you for petty technicalities and throw in snarky answers just to further the blow. Disliked him so much I'll even be talking to the dean about him.

I really wish I would have looked at these reviews before taking his class, because he is the most unreasonable teacher I ever had. The feedback that he gives me on my work is very vague which prohibits me from being successful for future assignments. It feels as if he is essentially setting me up for failure!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the worst speech teacher. Everyone I know dropped him, unfortunately I was too late to drop. He is a harsh grade. We did a intro speech about ourselves and got a C because I introduced myself. He doesnt allow second chances to turn anything in the Dropbox even though I did all the work and I turned in a copy of the assignment. Hes rude.

Professor Dittus was the absolute hardest grader I have ever had in my entire academic career. Absolutely would not take him again, I even tried dropping his class 2 different times.

He didn't like my topic, and his example topic was "how to swing a tennis racket" so I made my topic "how to shoot a basketball" He said that it's a bad topic and wont grade well, and his was perfect. Even though they are almost the exact same topic he said mine was too demonstrative. IN A VISUAL AID SPEECH I was too "demonstrative". I don't get it
