Good teacher. Very clear and concise. Learned a lot from this class, and understood what I was doing.
very HARD teacher.. avoid him! teaches right out of the book, but tests are nothing like it! i heard used another teacher's test.. that's why more than half the class failed his tests! had to curve so much just so the highest grade could be a C!!
Teaches from the book. Does homework problems in the board. Can get a little boring at times. Concise presentations. Overall good teacher.
If you go to class & work the problems, you'll do fine.
This teacher blows. He will take points off if you do not type your name on the hmwk. He makes you stop right when class ends when taking a tests. It seems like he wants you to do bad instead of being helpul
The first time I took his class I failed his first test and had to drop. I had him again for the same class and payed more attention. I ended up with a B in his class. If you go to class and study for the tests you will pass. He puts all his notes online
Great teacher, concise and to the point. Teaches from the book so you know what to expect and does homework problems in class. Do the work and you'll be fine. Final exam wasn't culmulative and all exams were relatively easy (most of the class scored 80-90%).
If you attend class, you will do fine. Download the powerpoints and the study guides off his website and you will know everything he is talking about. He explains everything you need to know for the tests.
His lectures are helpful in understanding the material so go to class. Only a few mandatory homework assignments and tests are straighforward if you study. Class website has notes for all his lectures.
very clear and concise....enjoyed his class...just go to class and you will do well...
helped me to understand tax accounting
OMG, whatever you do DO NOT take this guy for ACC!
He's a great teacher. His class can be a little difficult, but you just have to keep up with him. He really knows what he's talking about.
Tough material, helpful teacher. You HAVE to understand the material to pass this class. France is a good teacher.
Not bad overall. A bit unclear at times.
Good instructor. He knows his material very well. Just study with time, and you should do very well on test. The material in class is not for craming the night before, it's almost impossible.
class was boring , tests were hard , but you can make up points on projects.
I'm an ACC major, and he is the worst prof in the department. He doesn't seem to have any interest in teaching and seems to dislike students in general. Boring class, he teaches straight from the book, and adds nothing extra. Don't take this prof!
Very clear and helpful. He makes the material interesting and his tests aren't tricky in any way. He is a good teacher.
He was great. good teacher, and I don't care what anyone thinks. He helps to make you study. If you are an accounting major, he's a good teacher to take to get in shape for your upper core classes. People who think he's hard is cause they don't study hard enough and want an easy A
Great teacher. He seems harsh at first, but he is really nice and helpful in person.
His exams are hard....unless you really pay attention and ask LOTS of questions. He doesn't curve so whatever you earn is what you get!
Tests were difficult. You must study hard to get a good grade in this course. He seems like he can be a jerk at times but overall he wasn't that bad.
He breezes through powerpoint - sometimes difficult to understand complex concepts. He is a very fair teacher with reasonably high standards. If you work hard you should do well, if you don't put in the effort.. good luck..
Tax is not an easy subject. He explains pretty well, but there's a lot of application. Tests were horrible! he curved one test 26% to get a C average in the class. He's a good teacher though. Don't take tax for a three hour session, its terribly boring.
The person who said that Prof. France is not interested in teaching is an idiot. Maybe they should not be an accounting major. This guy cares alot about his students. I hate accounting and got an A. He is really a very good professor.
Very good professor. Approchable, and gives clear directions.
He is just a garbage and enjoys if the student doesn't do well in the class. He is teaching because acc dept. has no clue what is going on in the class room.

I constantly had to leave the room during class just to take a breather. One time I got a nosebleed because of the amount of work.
Despite what others have said, he's actually not bad. Pay attention to scantron questions MORE than problems and do all the assignment extra credits. Tests are a bit difficult, but if you focus on the scantron, you'll do well. Suppose to get a C+, but he gave me a B...really helpful and really nice. You'll actually learn!
THIS PROFESSOR IS REALLY BAD ON EXAMS. HE ONLY GIVES 6-7 PTS. PER MULT.CHOICE QUESTION WITH ONLY 15 QUESTIONS. HES NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. HE DISCOURGES STUDENTS AND IT SEEMS LIKE IT PLEASES HIM AS STUDENTS FAIL HIS EXAMS. DONT TAKE HIM, U WILL GET STUCK IN THIS CLASS.UNFORTUNATELY, HE TEACHES MOST CLASSES OF ACC 202.
The class is not easy at all, and he does not help to make any easier. If you read, and work hard you will get through it. BUT HE IS VERY BORING!!!
Studied my butt off and got a 'B'. Not bad considering there's tons of stuff to memorize. Does not curve grades, but he does give EC points. Make sure you do the EC as it will be valuable towards the end. Warning - thisis a tough class. A professional and serious man. The good thing is that his class teaches you responsibility and hard work.
This is a difficult class. I really studied to get B in this class. Assignment are the only thing that get my grade up.He is approachable. Do the extra point in the assignment too. He sure is not easy teacher but not and retarded either. But every boring. It's reasonable class I should say. If you can find easier teacher, better take with them.
I took this class and it was full in the beginning of semester. After midterm half of the class drop not because of him but the material are hard. You have to study from the start. The test are easy compare to the homework. If you study hard you will do good in this class. He is helpful. I got help a lot of my assignment.
I dont know what everyone is talking about I got a 97% in his class. I studied about 4 hours before each test and thats it.
There's only a couple way that you can get 97% just studying about 4 hours b4 test. U R extremely smart or U R a cheater and U cheat or U repeat this course a few time. This is not easy class for normal, honest people. You have to study real hard to make it. Jim is reasonable I should say and student friendly.
Does not make the exams easy at all, very challenging. The class itself is rather boring, just lectures and goes over problem after problem, which seems to never end. Aside from that he will help you if you ask.
Definitely harder than ACC 201, but he grades fair and is willing to help.
very fair and if you study and do your hw its pretty easy to get a good grade
Not very helpful. He was not interesting. Always went over problems in class though tons of "review"
Don't bother buying the book 'cause the online notes are more than enough for preparation. What is not covered by the notes is not on the tests. Gives so much extra credit it is almost unbelievable. He was so easy I decided to select his class for Acc 301.
Ridiculously unfriendly. Lectures come straight from the book, powerpoint presentations available on the website, absolutely no reason to even attend, but with his sad powertrip attitude attendance is mandatory and doors locked exactly at class time. His attitude towards students is insulting, he murders any interest one might have in the subject.

If you're an accounting major and are wondering what kind of boss you'll have, chances are great that they all have the same personality as Professor France. Straight to the point and fair. Many student may not like that style of teaching. He's an accountant, what do you expect?
This was the worst experience I have had in my 4 years of college. Don't bother going to class, your time would be better spent re-lacing your shoes! The tests are ridiculous! If you do take this class, do the homework problems and show up on test day because if you go to his lecture you might kill yourself!
He's a good guy, says some funny stuff sometimes. Lectures can be tiresome (going over lots of problems), but tests are fair. If you read, do the assigned homework and have at least half a brain (unlike many business majors), his class is no problem.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had during my entire college experience. He's insulting and arogant, with little regard to inducing an interesting learning environment. I recommend avoiding his course if you plan to actually learn something.
this class is by far the least enjoyable class of my college years. Sleepless nights have done close to nothing for me when exams came. He is also insulting and a great teacher..that is, if you consider sarcasm and bitter unforgiving teaching methods attributes of a great teacher.
Professor France is very fair and very, very, educated. He knows the Accounting field inside and out. This is just a boring class. Allow lots of time on the SUA. You might think it is easy, but it is time consuming.
Yeah the classes are boring but the way he gives you the notes and it beats reading the book. I only opended the book to do practice problems before a test (he gives you the answers for those also). The course is medium in difficulty and this guy is a must take. And for you guys just taking ACC 201, there are absolutly no debits or credits.
He know his stuff but he is not a very good professor. Not very helpful and tends to be sarcastic. He tends to be more lenient on some students then others. Would recommend the class ACC 202, but not him as a professor.
He teaches okay. He goes through the material, he knows his stuff, but he doesn't really go out of his way to help you. The class itself isn't bad except for the SUA. The SUA is a time consuming pain in the butt.
Very fair teacher. Always helpful. Have to read before class. This class sucks but he can help you maximize the grade you get.
Unless you are really interested in accounting, this class may be somewhat of a struggle. Do any extra credit that is given for an extra boost, trust me it really helps. Understand the concepts of the slides he hands out. Some of the questions on the exams are concepts so you may want to read the book a little.
The class is somewhat boring and difficult, but professor france is very fair. If you read the book, look over his handouts and do practice problems, the tests will not be bad. But, make sure you really know your stuff...if not the tests will seem very hard. Take advantage of all the extra credit...it really adds up! Pretty good professor overall.
Nice guy, but hard class. He did a good job teaching the class, but he didnt make it very interesting. Lots of extra credit.
Really great teacher! took him for 202.. and thought he was great! If you need help with homework or projects, he's fairly approachable and attainable too. Don't be late for his classes cause he sometimes has pop quizzes, and he'll lock you out if your late on those days
This is the worst teacher I have ever had. His class is boring and he is not helpful at all. Tests are hard, even after long nights of studying. He also exspects you to understand eveything he teaches, before you go to class. Take it from me, find a different acc 202 professor!!!!!
Extremely boring and required attendance because of those stupid surprise quizes. at least it was easy
Prof France is exactly what a College level professor should be. Yes he gave surprise quizzes but only 5 and he drops your lowest 1 so if you miss one no big deal. He was EXTREMELY helpful. I went to his office once just to ask a simple question about part of the hw. He answered my question directly and then he told fixed my other mistakes!
This man is the definition of evil. He has no compassion, empathy or unerstanding of anyone. He actually made me cry once. While he does know his stuff i wouldn't wish his reighn of terror on anyone.
Fair Professor but theres a lot of work involved. Exams are a bit difficult and cover lots of material. But if you read the chapters and study well you'll do fine.
I don't if it was just me or if it was his lectures, but I had a tendency to always fall asleep in his class. But other than that he was an okay teacher. There are online problems that you need to do, but it helps. You also have to do excel problems but those help too. His tests are okay, but require a lot of work & studying in order to pass.
I cant believe that people wrote he is a good professor. There is little xtra credit to make up for the exams that you bomb. People in my class were literally afraid to ask questions because he gets frustrated if you dont understand the first time and will try to embarass you. I changed my major because of this guy.
His class is a little tough but informative
Attendance is not required. He has 5 pop quiz, 4 Exam, 1 writing, and HW assignments. If your goal is to pass the class, you will just need to read the notes and HW assignments once before the exam (READ, not scan). If you want to get an A, do all the assignments once without looking the notes. If you can make it, you should be good!
He is very fair. He tells you like it is. If you do the homework, and study you will do just fine in the class. He makes you learn and doesn't let you "slide" by. Follow his examples on the board and you will do well.
Good professor, but you probably won't like him if you're not an accounting major. He does Powerpoints for every chapter as well as practice problems. Half of the class time is lecture and the other half is working problems. Just go to class, do the HW probs. and read the PP's & you'll do fine. He is a Nazi grader on the writing assignment though.
He's on the boring side, but experienced college students should have no problem with him. Tests are like his PP slide lectures. Do the excel probs, they help for the tests. Tests can be difficult. He tries to get everyone to understand. Decent prof, all together.
The teacher doesn't know how to communicate information very well. I had to teach myself from the book because his lectures were useless.
Did not like this professor. He was long winded and banal.
Watch out for this guy, he locks the door if you're late. I'd avoid this teacher at all costs.
Great Professor. Just do the example problems and you will be fine. Pratice the problems givin in class and the homework problem before all exam. Professor is straight forward with whats going to be on the test.
Keys to doing well in this course: Accept that the material is hard to grasp so keep up. Show up to class on time or get locked out for a pop quiz. France is on top of everything so use all of the material he posts on webcampus. visit office hrs. complete all assignments because the test can be brutal(250 points. boring, straigt forward, fair prof.
confusing at times but ok. he will try to write confusing questions on the test so beware.
Good professor. Complicated subject so study hard for tests and be prepared for hard problems. If you do study you will do well.
Dude if you show up to class, listen to his lectures, it is an easy B. If you study, do all the homework, and actually pay attention, its an easy A. You just gotta understand that this is COLLEGE, and not HIGH SCHOOL, and everything can't be put in your face like a baby. If you wanna earn 50-60k a year starting, earn it, instead of crying about it.
This guy is a total fox. Idk how he keeps that beard of his so groomed up! He's an awesome teacher. Acc 202 is lame but he makes it interesting. I'd recommend him to anyone in the college of business needing the credit.
Tough class even for accounting majors. sometimes the material is not clear at all, but the power point slides provided are helpful. the tests wouldnt be so bad if they werent worth so much. the mc section usually is worth between 6-8 points a piece! go to class and pay really close attention and you should be good.
This class is difficult, but if you do all of the online homework, read the book before class and pay attention you will do fine. He is not a GREAT professor but he is not bad. Fair grader, he doesnt give anyone D's or F's on the ethics paper, and he gives a little extra credit. Exams are worth a lot, but he gives partial credit for the problems.
Pretty Boring but fair. His tests are brutal I will admit (250 pts). You really need to apply yourself in this class, read before class he teaches very fast and is you don't you might get lost. For the test study problems mostly and you should be fine. 1 ethics paper pretty easy I BS'd it and got a B. Overall you should do okay if you really try
He's a very good professor. You will learn something in this class. He a fair teacher. You get what you put in. He explains and answers any questions you have. Acc is already a tough class, but his notes help alot. Sometimes he goes thru the powerpoint nots too quick. You have to keep up with reading or you'll be behind.
Very tough class. lots of homework. and his tests are very detailed. you must study a lot to stay above water. I would recommend another teacher! hard class.
I had this professor for Financial Accounting, and thought he was a nightmare! I had him again for Managerial Accounting, and thought he was an even BIGGER nightmare!! This teacher is extremely hard; he requires you to purchase extra things for his class; he makes you feel stupid for asking a question in class, etc. DON'T do it!
Very hard teacher. Grades hard. Gives you tricky questions on test. Managed to get a C after starting out with an F. I studied, did well on the Excel projects, homework, essay, and clicker points. But, you need to STUDY, read the book, WORKOUT the problems, and memorize concepts and accounting formulas...very hard class!!!

Tests were extremely hard and lectures were boring. The subject is interesting because it is pertinent to running a business, but I found myself falling asleep multiple times in his class, which meant i would miss out on his pop quizzes. He is a decent teacher the material is just very hard.
Professor France scares the bejesus out of me. It was a hard class. The tests are worth a lot of points. If you read the book, do the excel problems you should be fine. Also the practice problems on homework manager really help too.
To get an A, you have to keep up with the reading, do the extra work online, and show up for every class on time. He will give a quiz right at the start of class and if you are not ready you will not be able to take it. Very little extra credit, and it is a race to see who gets it first. He seems tough, but it is not that hard to get a A.
France is an ass, he's so mean. But he is a good teacher. If you want to understand his class, you must go to class. He gives a lot of examples and cuz its mandatory. And don't be late, he gives pop quizzes at the start. He really is an ass though, but if you can handle that, take him. Oh and tests are not curved at all.
Not very personal. I feel like he treats being a professor like a boring 9 to 5 job and he's better off teaching classes online where everything's pre-recorded and robotic. I could have self taught my way through the course, or maybe its because the subject is really boring. Either way I hate accounting, and Mr. France simply did not help matters.
Mean guy, would lock the door and purposely start quizzes as soon as the class started. He knows the material and if you go to class and fill in the Powerpoints, you won't be surprised by what's on the tests.
This professor is ok as long has you go to class and study you should be ok. I took him in the summer which was a lot of work in a little amount of time. He is helpful if you ask him questions after class. If you take him just be prepared to study
He such a hard teacher. He goes through the material so fast on his powerpoint, so when your still trying to understand the slide, he's already moving on. He requires attendance by clickers. We take a quiz at the beginning of every class. He has 4 tests, and he grades them strictly. There are no "pity points" for trying. Its either you get it or not
He is ok. Not the best professor I have had, but it helps that he has his powerpoints on web campus. If you did well in 201, you should be fine in this class.
He is an embarrassment, not a real accountant,he is the best example of how not to teach, better of talking this class online.
Good professor. Explains material well. Is available for help during office hours. You won't be surprised by what's on the tests if you do the problems on Connect. His quizzes at the beginning of class and his class participation questions are harder than the test questions. Bottom line: if you're smart and study, then you'll do well.
Does not help students understand the material much if they are not understanding. Often makes people look stupid for asking questions he finds unentertaining. You MUST study a lot on your own and the tests shouldnt be hard if you study!
His lectures are kind of dry, but he teaches you everything you need to know for the test. He kind of makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Tests are straightforward, quizzes are just to see if you read the book. Online homework is pretty easy. He's a "by the book" professor, but he can be a little condescending at times.
He grades very harshly and his tests "clicker" quiz every class to check attendance and will not let you into the class if you are 10 seconds late. His lecture is extremely boring, but he moves very quickly and rarely answers questions. Overall very rude harsh teacher.
Professor France talks way too fast and presents the powerpoints in such a way that you can't keep up. At least for me, everytime I'd try to copy notes to fill in the blanks of the powerpoints, I'd never be able to get the slides in time! I went to his office hours at least 3 or 4 times and found it still very impersonal and slightly condescending.
He should have stayed in the accounting field. He acts like a former disgruntled accountant. All he mentions is how we would be doing this if we had a fewer student count. He moves so fast. If you ask a question he answers it sarcastically and makes you feel stupid. I wish i would have read his rating before i took the class.
While I may agree with the others that he's kinda boring, he's fine cuz I learn from his teaching. He answers my questions clearly and I don't get the impression that he makes me feel stupid. He's there to teach. He's very approachable too cuz you can just ask him a question regarding class even when you chance upon him walking to and from class.
He is soooo mean, and extremely hard. He goes way to fast when he goes through the powerpoints, and even if you ask him to go back or slow down he says that there is to much info and cant go back. So you pretty much miss the entire slide. His test are ridiculous... they are worth 250 pts each and he grades them very strictly. DO NOT TAKE HIM ..
Class is extremely hard. Impossible to take notes from powerpoints he goes through them way too fast. Connect homework is an extreme headache. Considering the fact that he is the only professor for ACC 202 I dont know who else to suggest you take. But this class is quite a challenge. Test are very hard. Even after doing all the homework.
ALL of what the others say is true. this class would be better if he recorded his lectures and taught online. That way one could rewind when they needed to better understand a concept. Concepts are simple; but require repetition, which is not given. He verges on condescension; yet is available for questions at office hrs or before and after class.
Mr. France's class was undoubtedly a challenge. However, speaking as a student who is rebuilding his low gpa, it's a doable class. France is very organized. The homework/practice problems reinforce what you learn. Don't copy the powerpoints, it won't help you. Read before class, be punctual, do homework, and you'll be fine.
He teaches the textbook and wastes class time reviewing the reading assignments...doesn't review well for tests...participation point system is unreliable. He's the only acc202 prof at UNLV...don't waste your time or money to lower your gpa ...take it at can.
This guy knows his stuff..but doesn't know how to teach it. He basically reads and doesn't explain and expects everyone to get it. Printing out the powerpoint slides to follow along in class is pointless; you aren't given enough time to fill in the blanks he goes so fast. If you want an A, you need to read the material and learn it yourself.
its called CSN !! go there to take this class !!! the only class i ever withdrew . so if you dont want hw every day, quizes every class, attendance quizes every class, HARD tests , nd wud like to learn from a person instead of a book , then go to csn . or take it online at csn . but jus avoid this class unless you got ur einsteins on urrdayy
This class is not a walk in the park by any means, but if you read the book and the do assigned problems it is definitely do-able. Attendance is mandatory and you have quizzes every class over the reading he assigns. Overall, Jim is a really good professor, if you are willing to put in the time and effort that the class requires you will do fine.
it was extremely hard took it over summer school and he was very condescending, connect hw online was a nightmare which u have to pay 40 dollars extra have to buy a clicker, and tests were extremely hard.quizes every day and i got an A in the first accounting so its a no go for me
You will learn a lot in his class but he expects too much for a introductory level course. I luckily got a B in his class, but it was a nightmare of stress. If you are not interested in Accounting, take this course at CSN. I like Accounting and its my Major... during his class the thought of changing majors crossed my mind several times.
Very approachable. HARD tricky tests - some questions are WTF questions even if you know the material inside and out. For 202 level, it's intense.
For a level two course, he expects way too much of non-accounting majors to know above and beyond the course. Expect a lot of work. The exams are very tough as well. This class will consume most of your time.
Hard material! This class takes up most of your time. Read, take daily quiz, do homework on time, a 1 page writing, hard tests, 4 Excel sheet problems (easy), online homework takes a LOT of time & it's not worth much (2pts/ea), but it's so you know how to do tests (worth a LOT, 250pts, if u don't do well on 1, good luck).
He's a good professor, though is gruff to those expecting a free pass. Everything is given for a good grade, but YOU MUST STUDY! Material is hard and dry, so it can get boring. Reading (not skimming) is required for the daily quizzes. Tests are tricky - the wrong multiple choice answers are the right numbers to wrong equations used - be careful.
He's a little rough around the edges, but not all he says is bull. I took his class and as an accounting major, it wasn't to hard. Just attend his classes, study for the quizzes, do the homework, and you'll be fine. Just remember to engrave the material into your head.
I didn't find him approachable but he knows his stuff and his lectures are easy to understand. Make sure you read for the daily quizzes (and participation points) and KNOW the material for each exam. The exams are tough but if you are well prepared you will do fine. Am getting an A in the course.
GO TO CLASS. READ ALL THE MATERIAL. DO ALL THE HOMEWORK. DO ALL THE LEARNING MODULES. PRINT YOUR HOMEWORK and STUDY YOUR HOMEWORK. If you do this you will succeed. I guarantee. The professor isnt that approachable it seems at first, but he WILL answer all of your questions. You have to ask him though, or he will assume you understand.
super hard class. I got an A in 201 and struggled to pull off a C in 202. His tests are hard!!!!
Went through material so fast it was hard to keep up and understand before he moved on to the next topic
I seriously think that he's not as bad as some people say he is. Some people said this class is hard, and it consume alot of time, but as long as you read the textbook before class, and actually pay attention to his lecture, you will do fine. He gives out extra credit problem, but you need to compete with your classmate and do them fast.
Awful. Grades tough and assigns 9-10 points for a single M.C. question on tests. Grade is based on point accrual. Quiz every class and must correctly answer questions to even get participation points. Doesn't treat students as adults. Avoid if possible.
This is probably the hardest pre-business class at UNLV, and it is little overwhelming at first but once you get used to it, it's not that bad. Mr. France is a good professor but I didn't like him at first. He is kind of a like the drill sergeant type but you can learn a lot from him.
The reviews on this site are not accurate. If you read the material, and do the Connect homework, you can get an easy A or B. The beginning classes are most important as everything learned then will be used during the rest of the class.
I took Acc 202 during the summer with Professor France. It was definitely difficult because it was a summer class and we were required to read, do homework and take a quiz every day but this ensures that you are learning the material. France isn't very approachable but he knows his stuff and helps students learn the material and pass the class.
This professor is awesome. He is understanding and likes to help his students. As long as you go to class and meet with him with questions you have you should make your desired grade. RECOMMENDED!!!! Take his class. He is the best professor I have had at UNLV so far. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
I took his class a while ago. He was pretty tough for the level of class it was. He's an okay professor but very boring and kind of rude. He seems condescending. Overall, I would try to avoid him, but he's not THAT bad. I pulled a B.
This professor is terrible. He gives you a ton of reading and quizzes every day. He expects you to master the material once you read it. He isn't very helpful and contradicting in his directions. Grades harshly on his writing assignment. Tests are extremely hard. I got lucky and got C+ in the class. He only teaches summer so AVOID THIS PROFESSOR
This class is really straightforward. The professor lays out everything in the syllabus and follows it. Show up to class and follow the syllabus and you'll pass the class no problem.
He presents material and gives tests and quizzes. He has no idea how to teach. Presenting material and teaching are not the same thing. Every quiz is on material he has not yet presented. He says he gives partial credit if the work is correct but if you have a carry-through error, it's all wrong. You can navigate the class well despite him.
Jim France is an "old school" prof. Daily quizzes ( don't be late), tough tests (cramming will not work) and mandatory class participationattendance points (he still uses archaic clicker system) are the norm. Prof. France is knowledgeable and but he can come off as dry and gruff in his style. Prof. Danny Siciliano is probably a better option.
He uses a "flipped classroom" style of teaching. This means he expects you to read each chapter before class AND fully understand it before he even lectures on it. The whole point of paying $900 for a class is to have a professional teach you in a way that helps you understand. That being said, he knows the subject very well and I enjoyed his class
Clicker quizzes in class everyday, but those are easy. Exams are okay as long as you go over the review examples he gives you.
