Great teacher: very clear, super organized, very helpful, he makes class interesting and challenging. I had him for Calculus 2,3, and Differential Equations. One of the best professors, if not the best...and I am VERY picky rating instructors..
One of the best math teachers i have ever had
good clarity and good teaching abilities. I like how he breakes wimps in class and makes them drop out. He is very funny.
the best math teacher out there, he show you everything that you need to know without confusion........easy, organized, and clear
Prof. Franklin is one of the best! College Algebra with him was awesome. He is extremely helpful. He actually stayed after class with me one night breaking down to me everything I had to do to suceed in his class! I learned a lot from him!
one of the best math teachers ever!
overall a really good teacher.definitly reccommend taking his class.alot of teacher out their dont know how to teach math, he isnt one of them.
Not the easiest teacher, but if you have to take calc 2 or 3 or physics I'm sure you will be thanking him. He is really at the University level!
Outstanding teacher. Explains concepts clearly. No surprises on test/quizzes. Very knowledgeable. Sit in the front row to catch his sense of humor. Highly recommended!
I usually do not rate professors above a 4.0, but this professor is just outstanding!
He is a really good teacher, but you need to do the assigned homework. Its not graded, but if you want to pass his test, you had better do the homework.
Best Calc teacher at Valencia, period!
awesome math prof. He made calc 1 a piece of cake. He can explain his stuff great. BEST MATH PROF. EVER.
excellent teacher... he's organized and knowledgeable of the subject matter.
Tests are very tough. However, he is good at explaining the concepts.
Hopfully you not only know how to do all the problems in the homework, but the concepts for each problem. Tests are getting comparble to McCloskey. Expect no Review for tests. Just know everything;) and how to derive it :-D
He is such an awesome teacher and not bad to look at either in a Mel Gibson way. He is extremely helpful and clear. Just do your homework and you will get an A. He's a very amusing person and that means time goes by like nothing. TAKE HIM! HE'S AWESOME!
I've taken him for Calculus 1 and 2, and his class is great. Passing the course is no problem if you show up to class every day and do ALL the assigned homework. Quizes check to see if you did homework, and test are challenging if you don't understand.
if you like a teacher that hakes you feel stupid he is your man if you like doing all the homework and still getting bad scores because his test are nothing like the homework take the guy he is the sucks as a human being
He is a remarkable teacher.
Franklin forces you to understand calculus. Memorizing formulas/properties will not suffice in his class. Franklin is very clear and very helpful. He keeps you on your toes by freaking you out about tests/quizzes but they are definitely easy and fair.
He treats you like you already invented the material yourself. Doesn't explain in detail and he doesn't care. You can't ask simple questions unless it's really complicated. If you're a dependent on a teacher to explain stuff for you, he's NOT your guy!

Franklin is a genius and is EXTREMLY intimidating. Hes cool as hell and like everyone else said, he wants you to learn concepts instead of memorizing. This class isnt about the teacher its about urself, dont like it then take business calc or humanities
This Dude is awesome, if you keep up with your work you'll do fine. If you ask questions in class, he'll solve them step by step. He'll do the same if you go to his office.
I found this professor to be excessively and UNNECESSARILY intimidating and condescending. I was amazed at these positive comments. He stares evilly at you and gets angry if you don't get the answer right. If u need encouragement 2 succeed, DROP NOW.
He gives quizzes every week so you have to do the homework. He only cares if you learn the concepts so memorizing stuff won't help. He's always late to class and expects you to know everything. But, it's not hard to pass the class.
I don't care what anyone else says, he is Valencia's best! Seriously, take him by all means! Not doing so is your loss!

How much easier can you get?! If your not sure what's going on in math he's the guy to help you. If you are good at math, the class almost seems slow. Has 3-4 question quizes once a week for easy points and attendence. Doesn't collect hw, I NEVER DID A SINGLE PAGE OF IT & GOT AN A! drops low scores
sarcastic. easy quizes, harder tests. don't leave class early. he'll give a quiz at the end if too many leave and you'll miss points. atleast 5 min late every day
This guy is a good "instructor," but aside from that is not the greatest person to be around. He is VERY SARCASTIC!!! There is ALWAYS one quiz per week. He hates those who leave early, and if you do ( I know from experience) he will give a quiz at the end of the class. Overall hes is BORING!!!
lousy jokes, other then that hes barable. calc2 isnt easy but he knows what hes doing.
he is very hard, very difucult to undersatand.I love math but he makes it dificult. He explains on the board like we already know the material.if you asking a question he makes you feel very stupid and he wont help you at all.He maybe knows at lot of math, but he does't know how to teach.he may fail
bad teacher..he only cares if you are good in math..he will fail you...he never smiles to anybody....he is also very hard in class, test and quizes.
....just run, don't look back
Teaching methods are too complicated to learn. I've learned calc before in a whole different style. He make it more difficult than it really is to learn.NOT VERY HELPFUL....The only way to understand him is to start with him from algebra in order to understand his concepts and style of teaching...
Brilliant. Loved him. Smartest math professor around. Absolutely knows his stuff. Funny if you get his sense of humor. If you are prepared, or at least try to be, he's helpful Gogeous if you like an older guy.
Biggest @$$Hole on Earth. I have an A in the class b/c of my OWN effort. He is very unclear, sarcastic, and rude. HE WILL DO THE IMPOSSIBLE TO FAIL YOU IN HIS CLASS. He takes pride on that. If don't believe, ask anyone who took his class. CALC 3 could've been way easier. He just makes it complicated
Extremely rude and unhelpful. He seems to have forgotten that he is a teacher and therefore his purpose is to help those who have chosen him to learn complex concepts. I earned an A in Calc I and II. Take Prof. Nguyen. Much better.
First class I ever dropped. Does not want to help students at all!
Nver, never, never, never, never, never take these horrible teacher. What he writes on the board is not on the home work. What is on the homework is not on the test. 30 students of 45 drops the class;and 10 at of 15 they only pass the class, and 2 at of 5 only get an A. So think befo you take him.
Very smart and VERY unaproachable unless prepared. Your going to be upset, discouraged, and probably an ****; but you will learn calculus.
Great professor. Very clear and understandable when teaching new material. Assigns time every class to go over any and all questions students have from homework. His tests & quizzes are very fair and similar to the homework he assigns. On top of that, he has a very generous grading style & scale.
Best math professor I ever had. Sarcastic? Yes! Opinionated? Yes! Thorough? Very. That's what u expect from someone that excels in what they do. He'll chllnge u; if u're not up to it, don't come. See how prly -ve cmmnts on othr rtgs r wrtten. Tht wll gve u an idea on whre their intllgnce lvls lie.
If you come up to him like a cocky ****, thinking you are prestigious valencia all star and ask him a question, you'll probably get a horrible response. On the contrary, he was very approachable, helpful, clear, and full of dry, but funny, humor. got an A...thanks
DO NOT TAKE HIM. These positive comments must be from math nerds or suck-ups. If you love math, take him. If you feel neutral or negative about math, DON'T. I make straight A's so it's not like I'm lazy, but he was the most intimidating and condescending sh**head of a professor I've EVER had. He asked ?'s and no one raised their hands, why? FEAR. Then he'd yell at us for "not doing our homework" when we did but just didn't understand it. Then if u DID ask a ?, he'd embarass u & make u feel li
i hate math. i took stats w/ him and actually passed. i understood the material the way he presented. yes, i saw him at times get rude- but only to kids who were acting up or sleeping in class. he does have a sarcastic way of answering questions. i'm horrible at math, and i still got a B. homework was what was on the test, and the projects we did were also great prep for the tests.
explains subject well, very willing and available to help students, do the homework and you'll do well in the class
Franklin is a good teacher..explains subject well and is very willing to help..tests aren't very easy but he gives you easy quizzes to help your grade. Has a sarcastic sense of humor but if your not a smarta** you'll get along fine!
WORST TEACHER!! He makes you feel stupid when u asks questions. His personality is the worst! he thinks he is funny, when he is just annoying. Tests are sooo easy, not because he teaches well but because he grades really easy. I regret not dropping the class even though I have an A. It wasnt worth the suffering.
I've never worked so hard in my life to get a C+ in any class! I'm looking back the morning after the final exam and coming to the conclusion that Franklin was not worth the trouble (and I'm a math major). I could have learned just as much information by taking Lang or Devoe, while being challenged at the same time. Only 15 people took the final.

Not a bad teacher, but not really good either. I don't think he really cares if you pass or not, which he really shouldn't, but a little compassion would have been nice. Very sarcastic, makes you feel retarded if you don't know what your doing, but i learnt the most in this class than in any other math class. Take this class if you want a challenge
Franklin is a very challenging teacher that teaches a very challenging course. Looking back on my experience several days later, I like the way he weeded the riff-raff from my class. After all, we're in school to LEARN! Oh, I forgot to mention another point; the weak at heart NEED NOT register for this coure OR professor.
franklin always kept me on my toes. hes a fiesty one, that franklin is. if you're a slacker or "not a math person" i wouldnt recommend taking his class. math comes very easy to me and i still felt challenged. tests are super easy, but youll find that they are almost impossible to prepare for.his lectures dont follow the hw in the book
He is a very good teacher. If you do the homework and study the problems, you will do quite fine!
Engineers listen up! Taken him for calcI and II. Very tough courses to teach (and learn for us). Franklin explains the material well. He is right, if you don't stay up to date with homework(not graded) you will be changing your major, even if you stumble through calc I, you'll die quickly in II. Franklin is your best shot at getting through calcIII
I am not by far a math wiz, but he made me stay on my toes. he was always telling us to do hw and stay caught up. In his class, if you do not do hw, you will be lost. follow his advice and you do good. he weeded out the lazy ones. I will take another math class with him. hope he teaches statistics.great man!!!
He is impossible to learn from. I have had no difficulty in Calc 1 or 2, but with him it's impossible. He thinks he's funny, but he's not. He restates the same point over and over even though it doesn't help anyone. He is also very condescending, almost rude.
...IT IS JUST LIKE THIS....DUDE RUN AWAY...AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good professor, but hard class. He is fair, but has a tendency to skip some intermediate steps when reviewing problems that might lead to some confusion. Quiz every day, and tests are fair. Difficult class, make sure to study, and go to class every day.
Terrible teacher. He expects you to already know everything and makes you feel stupid if you ask a question. ALL of his tests are word problems and he's the worst teacher I've ever had. Stay away!
HORRIBLE! he wants the class' participation, but if anybody asks a question he'll make u feel like ur stupid. "ITS IN THE BOOK" is what he answers. he has lots of mood swings. he focuses more on concepts and expects u to know how to apply them on ur own. this guys literally laughs when sees students struggle.
Bombed the first test but he wouldn't give up on me and I got A's on the next two test. This class is hard but if you study the study sheet before the test and know how to do all the problem(they will show up on the test) you will do fine. Hardass at first and then he lightens up a bit. He gets mad if you don't study but he will help you.
Professor Franklin is a wonderful teacher. It's true that he can be a little sarcastic, but he is thorough and definitely approachable, especially on an individual basis. Make sure you do your homework and pay attention in class and you should be fine. Keep in mind that math is an unpopular subject so keep the posts you read here in perspective :D
Guys and gals, don't even think about it.. It will take you two wks to realize that you made a big mistake. Take Prof Van De Car instead. She isn't all that easy but at least you'll have a shot! Prof Franklin is totally dilusional when it comes to assignments. He gives quizzes daily so if ur late or dont show up, you're already failing. Tests suk 2
Teacher is very hard, expects you to remember everything from previous classes. Comprehensive final and grade calculated only from tests. Very Smart though. I would avoid if not good at math.
Franklin is an all around great teacher. He is clear spoken and teaches the material well. His class is difficult (it's a difficult class in general) but if you do the homework and pay attention you will succeed. I recommend because you will learn the material well in his class and be adequately prepared for future math classes.
great teacher, extremely helpful, will explain until you get it, he gives pop quizzes, so attendance is recommended. he also collects hmwk randomly he only collects certain numbers so be sure to do it all. i bombed the first test (forgot my calculator) & never did any of the hmwk and still got a B, so definitely an easy class! great guy, and class
This guy is hard, but he is fair, if you are an engineer u ll be glad u after taking him, give it a year, if u get a B, it s better than getting an A with all other teachers, Great teacher, explains very very well!
The worst teacher I've ever had. Unbelivable sarcastic and rude. Four test and a cumulative final. Homework every day, but he doesn't collect it. However, if you don't do it you will not be able to pass because he expects you to learn by the book. AVOID HIM if you need a professor approachable and helpful.BE AWARE!!!
You will end DETESTING this professor and math in general so if you learn by your own you might take him if not you MUST RUN AWAY
Absolutely the worst teacher I have ever had. He is rude and makes you feel stupid if you guess the wrong answer. This discourages class participation as students get scared to guess an answer. He is knowledgeable in the subject but should not be a teacher as he thinks everyone should know as much as he does. Avoid at all costs.
I have never recieved lower than a B in any math class I have previously taken. He is unwilling to help and very immature. Do not ask him questions because they will automatically be made fun of. I would rather drive to a different campus than take him again.
not to much to say... unhelpful do not take him, the worst math professor! The worst teacher I've ever had!!!
So far the worst professor I have ever had! I am still hating this "professor" even though that I took the class the last semester. OMG He is evil and rude and I am not exagerating he is a fiasco as a professor and human being. He is ridiculous and inmature cuz he made fun of every question that somone ask!! Be advise!!!
Don't Even bother yourself to take this "professor" cuz u will lost ur money and time. I took him for Trig and he gave me a bad grade and then I took the class again and I got an A. With that said u can assume that the problem is not the fact that the students are lazy and/or slackers. THE PROBLEM IS HE!!!!
yo this guy is insane. me and my roommates were taking him and dropped his class the 3rd day in. it was terrible/pathetic to watch this so called "professor" teach a room of bright young adults. NEVER TAKE FRANKLIN...EVER!!!
I thought he was a good teacher. He definitely knows his stuff. I had him for trig, and he was very clear while teaching. He's not mean, he's funny. His class isn't hard if you pay attention and do the work.
Difficult teacher but prepares you well for future classes. Especially engineers. If you want to learn something take this guy. If you want to skate by, then take someone else. If you work your butt off you can get an A. His so called rudeness is his way of joking around. If you can't handle his humor then you can't handle bosses in the real world
This is one of those classes where you are assumed to know everything. Unfortunately, many of us have had crappy math teachers all of our lives. If you want to have to get tutoring from the mathlab or like to teach yourself, this class is alright. Otherwise, you may want to find someone else. He's okay, but grades hard where other teachers don't
You learn alot and he explains math perfectly. You wont be lost if you pay attention. PAY ATTENTION in class !!! Learning from the great Dr. Franklin...kings would die for the Honor.
FRANKLIN'S CALC 1 CLASS IS NOT FOR STUDENTS JUST WANTING TO MEET REQUIREMENTS. IF YOU ARE A MATH OR ENGINEERING MAJOR YOU SHOULD TAKE FRANKLIN. WORKLOAD IS CHALLENGING NO ROOM FOR SLACKERS. STUDY HARD, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, GO TO CLASS, AND DEFFINNETELY KNOW THOSE TRIG FUNCTIONS.
WORST EVER!!! HE IS VEIL AND RUDE. I DID NOT LIKE HIM EVEN THOUGH I GOT AN A
Franklin is definitely for people who are good at math or want to actually learn. There are 4 tests and weekly quizzes. He assigns homework, but it's not graded. If you don't do your homework, you won't pass, but that's because it's calculus. He's a good teacher, and he definitely knows his stuff.
I took Professor Franklin for Trig, and I think he is a very good professor, he explains well and clear, I'm not good at math so it's not an easy class but those that complain or think he's a bad professor? They need to stop slacking, and actually study. If you do the hw and pay close attention, you'll be fine...
Probably the best teacher I've ever had, either at Valencia or UCF. If you have had bad luck with calc teachers so far, take Franklin's class. I left his class amazed that Diff Eq actually made sense to me. He can seem a little blunt sometimes, but it is just his sarcastic humor.
VERY disrespectful to students! Will ask for an answer and ridicules if it is wrong, then gets upset when noone will answer him. Took calc B4 (w/ diff teacher) got an A..(same class 4 diff. degree) the work was not a problem, but dropped cause his verbal abuse was uncalled for.
At first jim seems really tough and mean but its just his way of joking.hes really thorough when he teaches and shows you how to do some really cool stuff.if you pay attention and show that you care hes a nice guy and you will learn loads of stuff. hes really passionate about what he does.take him!and he doesnt use online hw so buy useed for this c
Franklin is funny as a person but a joke as a teacher. his class is hard and if u dont have prior knowledge of caluclus b4 signing up, dont take him. all the comments that are postive are from students that are very good in math. BE FOREWARNED
I do not believe that Jim has ever worked anywhere besides VCC so his grasp of the world is tenuous at best. He over-emphasizes obscure(not tested) details and does not focus on the students learning the process to solve the problems. He could stand to have some real world experience. Be prepared to learn on your own.
HE WOULD EVEN PUT IN PHYSICS PROBLEMS ON THE TEST WHICH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE NATURE OF THE COURSE. I HAVE HAD A'S IN EVERY MATH CLASS AND I AM A TUTOR AT THE WEST CAMPUS AND I AM WARNING YOU THIS GUY DOES NOT CARE ABOUT TEACHING OR YOUR SUCCESS!! I RATE HIM AS THE WORST TEACHER EVER!!!
All i can say, is that he is the worst teacher ever. He expects you to grasp a concept as soon as he teaches it, if not he gets frustrated and moves on. His teast are extremely hard, and always picks the hardest and trickiest questions on the test, to try to stump you, he gets a kick out of failing students and doesnt care.
This teacher is horrible. He discourages students from asking questions by making a foul out of them. His favorite tactics are to yell at the class as a hole directing his comments towards the student?s question. Prime example: he puts on a show by getting flustered and yelling stuff like, ?you guys should know this stuff its right here on the boa
We'll Calc2 was def. a very hard class. If actually put time/effort into doing/understanding EVERY homework assignment he assignes then you will not regret taking him. James helped the class out twice regarding grades/tests. If you stay till the end, and study hard you will pass. Tests consist of Calculator and Non-Calculator. STUDY STUDY STUDY. Pr
Franklin is a terrible teacher. He spends class time talking about fascinating but irrelevant material. He does have an ok sense of humor but for the aspiring engineer or scientist I would take another professor. Calculus is inherently difficult and Franklin makes no effort to clarify the material. Be prepared to teach yourself.
This is my 3rd straight class with professor franklin. He's hard and expects you to do your part in the class but he'll do whatever he can to help you understand the material. He makes it simple yet challenging. Good for people who like math.
Professor Franklin is an outstanding math professor. If you need to learn the material and know it well, take Franklin! The class is not easy and expect to work hard, however Franklin will do his best to make the material as interesting as possible. Some people complain about prof not helping them, I had no problem getting help from him.
Franklin is a good teacher and explains things clearly. He doesn't move on until he feels like people understand the material taught. He does expect you to do your hw & have prior knowledge from previous math classes. If you put in the effort, you'll get a good grade. He's really good with partial credit. He's sarcastic, but he means no harm by it.
Clearly explains everything, and will answer any question asked. His dry, sarcastic humor kept me laughing. He's extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about math, which is contagious. You work your butt off to get an "A," but you learn calculus. Grades well, doesn't count off for one mistake ten times like some profs. Only math prof for me!
Prof franklin is the best! I took calc 1, 2, 3, and differential equations with him and got A's in all of the classes. If you do the homework and ask questions you'll do fine. He loves math and wants you to do well. He's very sarcastic but its all in good fun. Take him if you actually want to learn, not if you want an easy A.
He is an amazing teacher. His notes are clear and easy to understand because he writes everything down on the board for you. His tests are always on the information he gives you in class. I am taking him now in differential equations and he is just as easy to understand as a year ago. If you are taking calculus, he is definitely the teacher to take
Great teacher, he can be sarcastic at times but has good intentions. He expects common sense out of everyone, and a willingness to learn. A+++
Dude knows his stuff, but does not know how to teach it. All the comment that are positive is from kids that understand it already. If you want to learn find another teacher.
I took his calc 1 class in summer 2006 (I know it's been a while) but now I'm getting a PhD and doing an insane amount of math and I must say that having him provide the basis of my math foundation was great. He is very good at explaining things in a way that you will be able to retain for years.
This teacher would be mediocre if it weren't for his condescending comments, which made him a little worse than mediocre. His explanations were wordy, so unbelievably wordy, especially for a male teacher. If you didn't do well in algebra, you'll fall behind quickly in this class. I'm lucky for getting by with a C.
Probably the worst math teacher i've ever had. He's condesending and rude to students. He mocks you and discourages you from asking questions. His notes aren't in the hw and the hw isn't on the test even though he tells you "If you do the hw you should do well." I went to the Valencia math center for 2 weeks, did my hw twice, and failed his test.
Very bad teacher. All these positive comments are from kids who already know the material. Don't even consider taking him.
very condescending to students to are not getting A's. I think its a math teacher thing. If you do your homework each nights its assigned and do the same problems in the book before you come to class you should be ok. if you have trouble buy a solution manual
All students have to do ALL of their assigned homework problems for this class! There are many surprise quizzes and if you do not do your homework for his class, it will show in your grade! I ADVISE ANY STUDENT THAT WILL TAKE THIS CLASS TO KNOW THEIR TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS, THIS IS A MUST!! KNOW THEM!
Great lecturer, but evil, condescending madman. Tests are sneaky evil, just doing the homework isn't enough to pass, need to be on top of your game, or you are done. Not for the faint of heart, but well worth taking.
Gives weekly quiz so go to class.Uually an easy 10/10 if you pay attention in class and/or keep up w homework.Does not collect hw, so do well on quizzes and tests.Dropped our lowest 3 quizzes.i got an A.Use solutions manual in math lab to save time.Helps figure out hw problems way faster.
Prof. Franklin is a great teacher. All he asks is that you "do what he tells you to do". If you do all the assigned problems and show up to class everyday you'll be sure to not only get a decent grade, but also learn something.I had not taken a math class in over 6 years and took him for precalc and trig at the same time and did fine.Just do it(hw)
He's a good teacher, and I am learning a lot. But his tests suck, and are full of trick questions. If you want to LEARN math, take the class, if you want to PASS, expect math to be your life. He makes it hard to ask questions without feeling like you are wasting time, favoritism to students who have "A's", even helps them on tests sometimes.
I took both Calc 2 and 3 with this professor as a refresher course after not having them in 5 years. He is legitimately the best Math teacher I have ever had. His course is not easy, but he explains things better than any other teacher and takes things slow if he senses students falling behind. Great Teacher!
Great teacher! He's EXTREMELY good at math, his lectures are to the point, and he's funny and sarcastic. If you're not serious about mathematics, can't think logically, or are barely scraping by (a C student), don't even bother taking the class. Otherwise, take it and be prepared to learn!
By far one of the BEST professors i've ever had. He's very clear, just revise your notes, come to every class, and pay attention to the lecture and be certain to get an A. Totally AWESOME and REALLY helpful, i highly recommend him.
Absolutely the best math professor I have ever had. He should be teaching at university level. Every student that actually did the homework as it was assigned did well in his class. Those who slack off and try to catch up the week of the test, take it somewhere else. This guys class is the major league. So worth it. All other classes are now easier
Professor Franklin is one of the most knowledgeable math teachers I have ever met. Though sarcastic and monotonous at times, his expectations are very clear. No homework due in my class. Also, he grades tests VERY easily (as long as you write done something, you will get most of the credit). I would highly recommend taking his class for Calc 3.
I took him for calc 1,2 and 3. By far the best math teacher I have ever had. Go to class and do the homework and you will get an A and have a very strong understanding of the material.
Not helpful when it comes to details on working problems out. I couldn't correlate any of the rules with how or why the rules are that way. Professor Franklin seems a little jaded in his outward expressions of apathy towards students not understanding the material. I felt very patronized in the class and was afraid to ask questions.
Took Prof Franklin for Calc 1 and learned so much more than I ever have from another Prof. Very theoretical. Likes to make jokes at the class and if you are paying attention you will catch them, if not you probably dont belong. Studying is a must!! Test are short but hard. Test are same as Hw&in class examples.
Professor Franklin is a true math professor. He loves math and loves explaining it, though he does hate having to repeat himself. If you do, and understand, the HW and work over the in class examples, then the tests are easy, as they are nearly copies of the two. He challenges you, but he is not harsh, can also be condescending.
Took him for Calc3. He's very well organized, and he teaches very conceptually which works well for calc3 but means he doesn't flesh-out every problem in the book. Exams are based on HW, and are pretty easy. I recommend him. His personality/teaching style can seem harsh at first but who cares. By the end of class, I think everyone really liked him
I took him for calc 1-3, if i had to do it over again i would still pick him. he really should be at a university teaching. i have moved on from valencia to major in Mechanical Eng. and Franklin did a great job preparing me. I made a B in calc 1 and A's in calc 2 & 3. study his example problems and all the assigned problems and you'll be set.
He has no patience and expects you to understand everything right away. However, he is very good at teaching, definitely taught me enough calculus to make calc 2 easier. Tests are hard so do all the assigned homework questions.
Great Teacher, do the homework problems and pay attention in class should be enough to get you a B.
Best math teacher ive ever had. Highly recommend this teacher. Wish I would of taken him for all my math classes.
Horrible teacher, expects you to know everything before he teaches it to you, don't bother asking for help in his class.
Very good at explaining "WHY" and "HOW" formulas are derived. He dismissed the idea of memorizing formulas, and instead teaches you how to derive them so you never forget. Great teacher, will take for Calc 2 in the fall.
This guy is for the thick skinned. His class is harder than it needs to be and he likes to poke fun at his students when they ask a question. However, I have to say the way he taught really helped in my Calculus sequence. If you're an engineer that needs trig for calc, TAKE him. If you just need the credit, I might look for anotherp rofessor.
this man has no patience. Teaches the trig way as if we already know trig. If you're not good at math, Dont take him.
I took him for College Algebra, Trig and Calc 1-3. He is the BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER. I loved his class. He is absolutely brilliant. The material is hard, not the teacher!!! You really have to study and dedicate some time to it. He can be condescending sometimes but if you're taking Calc 1, don't expect him to teach you how to factor!!!!
Best math prof at valencia. If you're going for any degree that requires the knowledge of math and its applications, take Franklin. He's hard, but it is extremely doable. He gives you everything you need to understand the material and pass his course. He's especially helpful for engineering majors. I took him for Calc 2-3 and DE and got all As.
Franklin is a great math teacher. He teaches you "how" and "why" the calculus works in different situations and if you take and review your notes, and do the homework, the tests aren't hard. He expects you to know everything from Calc 1, so if your question is a Calc 1 question, prepare for a really condescending comment in response.
He assigns A LOT of homework but does NOT give you credit for it. The only grades you'll have for his class is the 4 tests, so fail them and you'll fail the class. He makes you feel stupid if you don't know how to do it. You'll only do well in his class if you're strong in math, especially Trig! Tests are easy if you understand ALL material.
i struggled with him a lot. i feel that i learnt by spending hours in home going over every thing and looking for the answers online. i am good at math and i always got A, but not in this class. nothing personal but i think he makes the subject much harder than it really is
He has great knowledge of math. He has passion for it. If you love math, you should choose him. He is an experienced teacher with more than 20 years in teaching Math. He is funny too. He has an interesting approach to problems. You will see his energy with math in every class meeting. I strongly recommend him to anyone who loves math!
Professor Franklin is hilarious. Yes he sometimes talks to the class like they are slow and don't know anything, but that's because he's asking things he's already taught you! He expects a lot but he REALLY teaches the material. Always available if you go to his office for help or after class. At first I was skeptical but he really grows on you.
The best Math professor at Valencia!
If you are planning to take this guy, I suggest you know your math really well, he sometimes doesn't finish the equations, he expects you to finish them own your own time, hw is a must to pass, no calculator for tests only your brain, same for quizzes.
He is a great professor. He does not hold your hand or give you pep talks, but he does give it to you like it is and tells you exactly what you need to do to pass. Sometimes it is a little funny to listen to him go on, but he really does care. He answers emails quickly and is willing to help. If you do your part, you will be just fine.
Great Class! I learned so much from this professor. He really knows his stuff and I was leary about taking calculus. He made it so interesting to me. I was surprised that I actually looked forward to going to his class.
This was a tough class. You really have to put a lot of time and effort into studying. I did not understand the first few chapters so I started to go to tutoring and my grades improved. I finished with an A in the class, so I was really happy about that.
Franklin is a professor to take if you're interested in application and engineering. He teaches very theoretically and conceptually. His lectures are great and encourages you to seek out further knowledge. Tests are very similar to homework and sample problems covered in class. Do your homework and read the textbook for a deeper understanding.
Hardest teacher I ever had, but can say Franklin always pushed me to do better. Best teacher I ever had. You will work hard in this class so don't take him if you are looking for an easy class.
Need to have mastered trig and precalc in order to keep up with this professor. He expects a lot from his students. Lots of hw (not graded) but essential to passing
If you want to LEARN Calculus 3, then take him. He is probably one of the BEST math instructors out around here. Wished I could of taken him for Cal 1 and 2 as well.........
Franklin will only talk to those who want to be taught mathematics. If you're in a STEM field, get used to having a ton of workload! Prof Franklin assigns a lot of non-credited homework, but problems on exams are from HW. If you're okay with self-studying & prefer a more causal grading system, take Franklin. I think half the class failed....
A lot of hw and a lot of expectation which can be expected. He's definitely one of the hardest profs I've taken. Does give partial credit. 13 quizzes, Pop quizzes. drops 3 quizzes and 4 tests, 1 final, the final's grade replaces the lowest test grade if higher. Says that the tests are based on HW, I didn't really see that.
If you dont show up to class you will fail. If you dont do homework you will fail. If you dont study like crazy you will fail. HOWEVER if you do all of this things I guarantee you will pass the class and MASTER the math at the same time. His tests arent hard at all, just dont fall behind. Definitely taking him for Calc 1-3 and DiffEq.
Great professor. He is tough, but if you do the homework he assigns and pay attention during lectures, you will pass the class with an A. His lectures are great, he clearly explains all the topics in ways that make it easy to understand. Do the homework, even though it isn't required. Tests are based mostly off homework.
Don't take this guy during a summer semester. A waste of time and plenty of other resources out there where you can learn the material far better. And I'm not talking khan academy either. Expect a quiz for every class even before tests. A hard professor for an easy course. Unnecessary. Don't be fooled by other comments here, he's no comedian.
He lectures all over the place, spending hours on exceptions to the rule, leaving you scratching your head, like what? He also teaches directly out of the book, meaning he uses the math lingo and doesn't simplify it. I dropped the class, for my mental health, so that I didn't have to hear du/dx for the 8 millionth time in 3 weeks. Had an A, argh!
I love professor Frankin. I recommend all the engineer majors to take him. He may be a little tough but you will learn alot from his class. Tests are not that hard. Just do all your Homework and even more problems online, and don't fall behind. NO CALCULATOR. You do not need it. Taking him for calc 2 right now.
I took Franklin for calc 2 in the summer of 2015, and then calc 3 and DE in the fall. He prepared me for UF's pure mathematics program and is a passionate mathematician who taught an intuitive understanding of the material. Take him if you like math and actually want to learn the subject. Best prof. I've ever had. The tests are from the HW, fyi
I love him.
Literally worst professor ever! He is super mean and not helpful at all. I almost cried a couple times because he just that mean. He didn't follow the book and taught things from Calc 3 that not even the tutors could help me with. out the 28 students that started only 13 remained at the end of the final
I WOULD NOT take him unless you are extremely good at math. I received an A in both trigonometry and precalculus and ended up dropping this calc class because it was the most awful thing to sit through. He's a bit mean and is not a good teacher. The tests are nothing like the homework. His class is boring and definitely not a learning environment.
He is a great professor. If you pay attention during lectures, take note, and do the homework he assigns, you will pass the class with an A. His class is interesting! He is funny. He clearly explains all the topics in ways that make it easy to understand. He pushes you to do better. The tests are based on homework.
He will stop and start telling a joke in the middle of the class, the syllabus are not updated. he does not use blackboard but has a specific website with the problems he wants you to do from the textbook in order to turn them in physically. will not announce test dates, respond to emails or let you take a test in the testing center if sick.
Prof Franklin is an incredibly polarized professor. Students either love or hate him. If you're a STEM major with a genuine love and intuition for math, then I highly recommend taking Franklin for the learning opportunity. The exams come from either homework, examples in class, or the basic knowledge quizzes. He does give extra credit on tests.
this professor does not help his class, he won't announce tests, respond to emails in case your sick and need to take a test at the testinc center, lecture is very unclear, no projector, no powerpoints, no webassign, no extra credit everything from the book like 4 tests. includes problems not in the book. idk why he teaches there
People who like math wont pass his class. He makes students feel silly for asking questions. He will hurriedly cover a complex example and expect students to replicate it perfectly. Tests include extra credit but dont count on getting it. Dull lectures. Withdrew from class after second test. Took Calc 2 with different professor and received an A.
His lectures are concise, his proofs are straightforward, and he encourages his students to do well. He's available during office hours and welcomes you. He expects you to know material from prior courses but will refresh you if you're rusty. All tests are posted online weeks before they occur along with plenty of supplemental material!
You can learn from his lectures, but they're far more confusing than necessary. Over-covers simple topics but spends no time on the complicated stuff and expects you to get them without actual teaching. Also, he's rude; avoid asking questions, he'll answer with sarcasm and treat you like you're stupid. Not sarcastic if you ask outside of class tho.
As an aerospace engineering major and a lover of math, there is no way I can be successful in this class. All you get is four tests. He over-complicates his lectures and gets upset when his students can't replicate his work. He makes fun of and discourages students in his class with actions that of a child including syllabic talking and mumbling.
I took him for college algebra and had to withdraw because of how much of a horrible professor he was. The tests were not much of what he teaches in class and him teaching is basically him making his students feel dumb. Homework is not graded, only has about 4 tests which are all extremely hard for no reason. Do not take him.
Took him for calculus 2 and its definitely not an easy class. But Franklin is a great guy and he shows that he truly cares about his students. He can come off as condescending at times but at the end of the day he will always sit down and explain a concept if needed.
He is RUDE. I ended up withdrawing for this reason alone. I dreaded going to this class because it was an hour and a half of being afraid he would call me out and belittle me. If he asks a question and no one answers or they answer wrong he gets angry and makes rude sarcastic comments. I've never had a teacher that treated students so poorly.
