He is an awsome and fun professor. I have had for both Psych and Soc. and i learned alot. He offers lots of extra credit. It's not hard to earn an A.
Great teacher! He makes the class fun. Tests are a bit hard but you need to study and read the books. Offers EC too ^^
he was very concerned about everyone passing, he offered extra credit. There was alot of reading, but he offered notes that covered the main points you needed to know in every chapter. He was funny.
Helped me a lot in the class, and made sure that I knew the material. A bit of reading, but very very fair teacher who will work with you and make sure that you learn everything in the class, wants you to do well. I recommend him for any soc. class
Weird little man that quickly turns out to be kind helpful & knowledgable to all. Great class.
Professor French is one of the professors Saddleback College students and administration should be greatful to have. He wants you to succeed. With his support and obvious love of the subject, Mr. French makes this class worth waking up for on Saturday mornings. Great teacher! Helpful, fair, fun and full of knowledge. A terrific class!
Outstanding teacher. Very helpful, keeps his lectures interesting and involves the class to keep dry material from putting you to sleep. He genuinely wants you to do well and doesn't try to make his tests too hard. If you show up for his lectures you will do fine. Highly recommended to anyone looking to knock out a GE requirement.
Ok...so if you are a right-wing conservative christian who has no interest in a well-rounded education then you should take him...he specificaly chose not to cover material that didn't agree with his conservative views..easy class...but very biased and borderline offensive...
e has thorough notes and lets you use your notes and your book on the test. You should definately buy the book because you wil need it on the test. It's an easy grade and pretty interesting.
Professor French is VERY energetic, which was great because I took this class over the summer, so lectures were four hours long! His tests are open book and open notes, and he gives study guides as well! Very interesting class, and definitely an easy A! Yes, he is conservative, but he doesn't push his views on anyone! I highly recommend him!!!
I took Mr. French's Summer class and got a B. Its interesting if you're a soc. major or just need the credit. He lets you use notes/textbook on the exams so that helps a lot! The exams are long and hard though. We took a lot of notes, watch a couple of vid's and lots of group stuff. He's very funny teacher, I recommend him. Overall easy A/B! =)
Jim French, you are a very happy man.
He is an extremely happy man, loves sociology. Pretty easy class, make sure you go and take good notes because you get to use your notes and book during the 3 tests. The tests are a little harder and require looking up a lot, but I still got an "A" and never read a chapter. Class can be a little boring though.
Mr. French, is a very friendly person. VERY SOCIABLE!!! This class is not hard. However, take notes and read the chapters. Eventhough the tests are open-book & open-notes....THE TESTS ARE NOT EASY! Do your extra credit, and try to participate regularly in your assigned group. Try to be an open mind student for this class. Good luck!
French was an enthusiastic teacher that gives every opportunity to get an A in his class. go to class take notes read the chapters write one essay all very reasonable and doable. not a gotcha kinda teacher. extra credit avail if needed. I Highly recommend this Prof !!!!
He's a great teacher, you actually stay awake in this class because he's always jumping around and extremely enthusiastic. As a friend of mine says "he reminds me of a hyper hamster", I couldn't agree more. Subject is very interesting and the prof is really great at explaining and teaching the material. Taking notes in class is highly recommended.
This teacher is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so much fun that you want to learn. He really made a very boring subject to me; fun and exciting. I highly recommend this teacher for teacher of the year award. Learning has never seen the likes of Prof. French a reall Patch Adams to Sociology. A definate must take instructor.
He's such a great/funny person. Decent in terms of teaching. I didn't learn much from the class unfortunately. Not many class discussiosn. Great for general ed, but don't take him if you are a Sociology major. I got an A, but I don't remember anything from this class.
Open note open book tests. 90% from book, 10% questions directly off notes. Go to class, copy down his powerpoint notes, sign your name on your group discussion papers and get full credit. Do the extra credit reports, get low-high B's on the exams and you will get an A! this class motivated me to get a 4.0 going forward. He is very enthusiastic!
GREAT teacher. open book, open notes test. so you DEFINITELY need the book. he also grades easily and is pretty easy. take his class! i got an A and didnt even read the chapters. do extra credit too. its really easy. lookin for an easy A? take this class.
Amazing teacher and easy A class. All you do is lecture notes and group work. He makes the class with his energy. All the tests were open book/note. come to class and pay attention and you'll do fine. Highly Recommended
French is a lively guy with a passion for Sociology. The class is pretty easy: lecture, notes, group work. The tests are all open note/book. If you miss class you must get the notes/material from a "homework buddy" or you won't have it for the test.
Show up to every class and do the extra credit, and you should get at least a B or C. He's laid back and pretty funny. Unfortunately, his tests aren't all open book anymore, and he recommends reading the textbook outside of class.
you will not be bored. unless you are a boring person. this man makes sociology (which i hate) very fun! first test was open book. take him he's awesome.
I'm in his class right now. He's a great teacher. His class is only easy if you try. He really cares about his students and them understanding the material. He's not going to pass out A's just because, but if he sees you trying I think he appreciates that. I'm really impressed with his teaching.
Makes learning fun, not boring!
Tests were open-book but extremely hard lol. I recommend crusing through the chapters before the tests. However, a lot of extra credits are given (total 40pts) and the class is an easy A if you try. Great and funny teacher as well!!
Esay A! All tests consist of 80 multiple choices and some short answers from notes. All tests were open-book tests. He is so energetic and makes class interesting and lively! He gives a lot of extra credit chances as well. You gotta take his class!
This guy is awesome. I have him on fridays from 9-11:55. he normally doesnt keep us the whole time. makes sociology fun. his lectures are great and pretty funny. I wish this guy taught more classes.French is the best professor I have come across while at saddleback. If you have the opportunity. take his class. you will NOT be sorry.
Professor French is BY FAR the best professor I ever have had! He has so much energy and love for his career. He truly cares for his students. I will forever remember this guy! Such an inspiration!
Take this class if you want an easy A or B. His lectures are interesting and all the tests (even final) are open book/open notes w/ scantron. He does have an attendance sheet which will help you in the end if you have a borderline grade. Very funny and personable as well
This class is definitely an easy A. Attendance is mandatory. He often randomly does a pop quiz, they were mostly common sense. Alot of group work but easy. All exams are open book. Overall if you want to take an easy passing class take this but if you want to thoroughly learn something don't take it this
He's an enthusiastic teacher, and you can tell he cares about his students. He offers extra credit, and allows open book for the tests. There are pop quizzes, so be sure to study your notes before each class session; however, don't stress out too much since they are relatively easy. Definitely recommend taking him.
I took Professor French's class over the summer. He did not allow petitions. I thought the class was easy. Out of 30 students, 80 % got an A or B. You do have to make it to every class. He takes role twice a class. He covers everything in class but the quizzes require you to read before the class. Nice guy. Provides some extra credit. Good overall.
Solid intro to Sociology. Prof. French is overall a good teacher who wants you to succeed. 3 non-cumulative exams that were both open-book and open-note, and he will take questions from the details of the chapters. One 5 page report. He can be a bit over the top at times, but if you are an active member of his class you'll be fine
Absolutely incredible. Very enthusiastic, cares about the students a lot, and the activities and group discussions we do in class are really helpful. Definitely keep up with the reading for the pop quizzes and exams. Insanely enjoyable class! Made Mondays a lot less painful!
Worse teacher I have ever taken

Professor French is an awesome professor who truly cares about his students. He made the class fun. His exams are open book and open notes. You have to write a 5 page paper. There's tons of group work. I learned so much from him! This class was easy! Take him, you won't be sorry!
Jim French is a funny and energetic professor. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE NOTES(which he will tell you when you need to) because you WILL use them!Make sure you are on time because he remembers that, even if you still get to sign the attendance sheet. Make sure you get the book you will need it. This class is an easy A if you do the work, which is easy!
He lets you use your notes (so take good ones) and the textbook on the test. I didn't open up the text book prior to the test days and I still got an A. You have 1 project and as long you do it, you'll get an A on it. Very easy class. Take it with him you won't regret it.
Professor French is a sweetheart. He is truly passionate about what he does and he loves talking to his students. All of his tests are open book and there is no homework. There is 1 good sized project but it's easy to finish in 1 night. There are hard quizzes but they don't impact your grade much. Do the extra credit! I ended w/ A & you will too
Great teacher. He has a great attitude, is very humorous which makes the class fun. He is very straight forward about his expectations. No homework. Do the work and you will be fine
Great teacher and very fair. I'd say its an easy A if you do all the work. You need the book for the exams. Has extra credit and his test are open books. Classroom participation is a must if you want an A. The notes he gives in class are not on the test.
He tries to be funny, but he is not!!! He is a though grader! I hated the class because he talks too much and he treat his students like kids. Also he is very rude.
He is disorganized, tests are hard, lots of writing in class, seven paper essay (very hard).
Professor French is a super nice guy! Contrary to all the other reviews not all his tests are open book or open note, only the first one. He does give out a study guide for the other tests to help you prepare. Tests are going to be hard if you don't study or do the study guide! Also you really need the book or you won't pass!
Open book open notes on tests. He even tells u which questions are in which chapter. Extra credit is easy. 1 paper. Got a hundred on it. As long as u follow the format and have good grammar you'll get an A. He does give 5 pop quizzes 10 questions so u don't want to miss class and there are group assignments every now and then that count 4 ur grade
class is super easy. tests are open notes and book with a few pop quizzes and some group discussions that are easy points! really nice guy with a few funny jokes every now and then! he really did seem to care about everyone overall and even your grade if he sees you put in the effort and showed up for class
Great professor! Very easy A and you do walk out with a lot of knowledge, because he's a great professor. All exams were open book and open note. However he's a stickler for his rules, so if you write your name on the wrong part of the paper expect to be docked points. Take this class!!!
Professor French is a great teacher. I found the class very interesting and he is super nice! His grading scale is a little bit confusing, but if you show up and do your work you will be fine!
He gives open book tests which you absolutely can't pass if you don't bring your lecture notes and textbook. He also gives regular tests which require reading the text book and memorizing it pretty well. Come to class or you will miss a lot of points. He isn't easy but his class is pretty fun. I would recommend it.
He was the best. Wish he taught other subjects. Waked away with a lot. He makes learning fun.
THIS GUY IS AMAZING!!! You can tell he really loves what he does, and he genuinely cares about all of his students. He's not intimidating at all and extremely easy to talk to. Overall, he's a one of a kind teacher who everyone should have at least once!
Awesome professor! Made sociology understandable and interesting! Read the textbook and you'll pass & exams are open-note open-book!
Failed sociology and retook it with him at IVC. Honestly he is the best professor I have ever had. Never met a professor so passionate about a subject. I strongly disliked the subject and he made me love it. The first test was open book and open notes. He is so helpful and he does extra activities for us to learn.
Professor French is very inspirational. He gives out fair grades to everyone (no favorites). He teaches Sociology very unbiased. He will keep you entertained and inspired from start to finish. In conclusion, I would just like to add that he is hilarious.
Professor French definitely has the gift of teaching. I wish He could be my professor for every subject! You will not get bored in this class!
Jim was a very passionate and energetic professor who you could tell was happy to be teaching. Attendance is a must, as he requires signatures from each individual student both before and after breaks. The class is very structured and he lays the foundation for every student to succeed with ease if you do what he recommends.
really easy and fun class. All tests were open book+notes, except for the pop quizzes so at least try to read for that if anything. You get points for attending & usually theres an in class assignment done in groups after lecture. Also no homework in this class other than reading the novel he assigns you and you have to write an essay on that.
Gives so much E.C!! Very passionate light hearted tone Read chapter summaries before class and you should be fine 4 pop quizzes He cares about his students learning All exam open book/note TAKE GOOD NOTES. ITLL BE IMPORTANT 4 EXAM Not much HW at all (1 bk rprt)/in class group wrk not that hard to get A Overall amazing prof! no regrets :)
My classes with him were from 9-12 once a week. This is usually early for me but I was never bored or found myself falling asleep in that class. He makes the lectures straightforward and easy to understand. The lecture notes will also be on the exams and quizzes so be sure to take good notes! One of the more genuine teachers i've met.
Absolutely phenomenal. Took him during summer, and hes both hilarious and informative. He was sweet, and I never felt afraid to participate in his class. He covered the subject matter in a succinct and easily comprehensible way. Take him You wont regret it, at all. Just make sure to read the textbook + the book he assigns for the report. Easy A
The tests are hard. He did let us have 2 out of the 3 tests be open book, but the chapters are so long that it was hard. I got 3 B's on the tests, that was without studying. If you put in some effort, you should be fine. The guy is hilarious though, real charmer. I promise you'll laugh at least once.
He is honestly an amazing teacher. Its as simple as show up and pass. Hes also funny and caring. He grades fairly as well.
Nice, quirky, charismatic. No homework other than reading for pop quizzes. Can figure out some questions with common sense/ a general understanding of soc/psyc. Extra credit is worth a lot. He's pretty funny. Tests are open book, but I got the online version anyway and was fine enough. If you can take good notes and read the book, you'll get an A/B
Great teacher, 10/10 would take any of his classes.
This class is super fun and interesting. Professor French is hillarious and so kind. Theres a lot of group work. 3 test, 2 of which are open book open note. Easy pop quizzes every week. Just read the chapters and you will do fine. No homework. Easy class if you stay on top of it and show up every week.
Handful of discussions, two tests, and a paper. Clear syllabus from day one, textbook reading is manageable, tests are multiple choice, one 5-6 page paper on the book "The Pact". His lectures are engaging and clear (both written and live in class). He's a sharp guy, you won't be able to BS him. But you shouldn't have to.
Professor French does not allow any absences which is least to say concerning. In addition, he comes off passively nice. If you correct him in class he will preach his own ideologies to try and defend himself. Overall, it is not worth to take his class, yes you might get an easy A, but as a professor he doesn't suffice.
Would recommend taking French. There are 5 pop quizzes that you can't make up, so go to every class, 3 open book exams which are pretty easy as long as you review the book a little bit before, and an essay on a book. There's also an extra credit essay that I'd recommend doing. Overall, a pretty easy class and he makes it entertaining sometimes.
Professor French made it known how much he loves sociology. My problem was that he was very narrow-minded and did not take enough time to work with me regarding my grade. I emailed him in advance that I would miss a class and asked him for the material I would be missing and he only said to just ask a classmate... It's an online class...
late work is pretty much not an option - I got 2/100 points on a major essay for turning it in 5 days late. the only thing that saved my grade was the extra credit report. would not recommend it to those looking for an easy class...
Lectures are not available online so you must attend class, however class is often upbeat and hardly ever boring. Great at giving lectures, easy going, understanding, kind of cheesy. Reminds me of Fix it Felix from Wreck it Ralph.
Professor French truly cares about his class. His tests and assignments were clear, as well as his lectures. My only issue with the class was the fact that there were pop quizzes early in class, so if you were just 5 minutes late you'd miss it. and he won't let you take them later. That's the only reason my grade dropped to a B
The lectures are extremely informative and easy to understand. This class was always super engaging. Every test was open textbook (and everything was in the textbook). He's one of those professors who genuinely cares about their students and their success!!
Absurdly easy class, provided you show up (on time) and pay even the littlest amount of attention. Does that mean it isn't valuable? No. Jim cares about his subject and that is apparent, what people consider a strict attendance policy I consider common courtesy. My only gripe is that I didn't do the extra credit and got an 89% good man and teacher.
Professor French is truly a great professor. He's passionate about what he teaches and is a hilarious and caring person. The biggest issue was how strict he is on attendance, as there are pop quizzes EVERY class that drag down your grade a whole lot if you miss one. You find yourself losing 20-30 points per class missed because of group work, too.
super entertaining and funny lectures. mid term and final were open book but there were a lot of pop quizzes. I would always read the chapters that the pop quizzes were about but I still failed a lot of them. luckily they didn't count much towards my final grade because I still ended the class with an A due to the major assignments: exams & essays
He was a great professor and very easygoing. Attendance is mandatory and every lecture matters since those notes can be used on exams. Make sure you read each chapter and show up to class on time since he will often give 5 question quizzes on the chapter, and if you show up late, you will not be able to take it. Over all great and easy class!
Jim is a funnt guy who really cares about what he teaches and really wants you to just learn more. Their are 5 pop quizess that can not be made up so go to class. They are very easy tho so dont worry. Read the chapters and youll be fine. Jim is very animated and his lectures went by so fast. Test are all OPEN NOTE even the FINAL.
Professor French was awesome! He made the lectures fun and engaging. You do group assignments in class, and the homework is just to read the chapters because you will take a quiz on them. 100% recommend taking his class.
ADHD's worst nightmare. Practically recites the reading in class, tells you that he will test you on only his definitions, despite it being slightly reworded. Helicopters around class, super particular about name and date places, will make you scribble it out if you do it wrong. "College is nothing like highschool" yet acts like highschool teach.
a great professor, enthusiastic about what he's teaching and that made the class very enjoyable
Mr. French is the goat, he's super passionate and makes class really enjoyable. I cannot recommend him enough if you're taking Sociology.
