Quizzes: easy. Tests: too hard based on homework. Homework: a lot. Lectures: quite a number of mistakes; confusing. Based on how I scored on his tests he's a horrible teacher. I had a B+ in the class most of the way and just BARELY ended with a C- - -.
If you study all the material and do the homework, you will definetly get an A. He teaches very good and is always up to help anyone who asks. He made statistics very easy. One of the best math classes I have ever taken!!
Very confusing and hard. I emailed him an assingment and he didn't accept it without letting me know. Tests are hella hard compared to the homework. Take McKenzie, much better teacher than Johnson.
HE IS VERY HARD WHEN IT COMES TO GRADE YOUR TEST AND QUIZE... HE IS A LITTLE BIT MOODY SO YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFULL WHEN TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT YOUR GRADE AND EVEN ABOUT ANY PROBLEM YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THE MATERIAL.
Johnson's a nice guy. But that doesn't make up for his inability to teach. I had to learn everything from the textbook. Sure, whenever you need help, you can always go to him and he'll do his best to explain things. "Absotively posilutely."
Easy, easy, and easy.
Awesome math instructor! Tests are just like lectures and homework, but if you dont get those you wont succeed. Attending class is a MUST.
If you have to take statistics take Mr. Johnson. I would have not made it through the course had I not taken Mr. Johnson. Thank You Mr. Johnson!
He is the instructor to take for stats...by far!!! Fairly easy class.
good instructor but very borring man. sometimes he keeps going on the material and adds some stuff from other math courses, but other wise, his alrite.. but if ur looking for easy math teacher, dont jepertise ur chances, caz his not the one!!!!
funny guy, kinda fast
very good teacher.. but supper borring class
He is very hard to follow at times and the majority of the class is not doing well, but he does make an attept to improve the class' grades.
He's a good teacher. Great guy and very willing to help students that need help. He just teaches a very hard class, but I know a lot of people that only would pass with him including myself
He is an extremely boring teacher. You can barely stay awake in his class! He also gives a ton of homework!
EASY EASY EASY. Take him if you are not too good at math.I usually fail all my math classes, but i got a B in his class. Lots of homework..that is the majority of your grade. So just do your homework which is mostly computer work. Boring though, but what can you do? Statistics isn't exactly the most exciting class you can take anyways.Numbers, wohoo
This is one of the worst math teachers ive had!!! Gives a TON of homework EVERY night and when you think you finally understand whats goin on-you get the quiz and nothing looks like it did in the homework!! Ill prolly be taking this class again...with a different teacher!!
Good teacher, very helpful, and a cool guy. There is lots of HW but you don't have to turn it in. He can be hard to follow at times but he is by far the best stats teacher here. I would highly recomend taking his class.
He a pretty easy math professor but he is way too boring. Class is fair and he only testes on materials that he covered in class. He also give lots of examples on the materials.
I found Mr. Johnson to be one the best math teachers I have ever had. He is willing to repeat things for you as long as you tell him that you do not understand it. He is very patient and wants to see that you succeed. The only way I passed was becasue I always ran to him when I had a problem and he would help me til I got it.
Not helpful at all. He was rude and made me feel dumb. Not approachable at all. If you can take someone else do so. Worst teacher I ever had.
he is not a great teacher ... he does not explain very well... not enough tim eto prepare for th equizes and exams.
Mr.Johnson was one of the worst teacher experiences that I have had. You have to get every single thing correct on hw or you fail I asked for help and he told me to he couldn't help me it was my issue to solve. He also teaches the class the wrong way to solve the problem then the correct VERY CONFUSING! I would not recommend him!
Good teacher, knows his stuff. Good communication skills. Tests aren't that difficult, they're rather similar to his quizes, although he does mark you down for little things. Overall just keep up with the homework, show up to class and ask questions if you have them.
Despite what some have said about Johnson, I missed a few classes and still found it pretty easy to catch up. He goes over the problems from the previous nights homework so you can learn it then. He does grade hard on homework, but I never did homework and still got a B.
I came in to math struggling and frustrated. Thanks to MR. Johnson he helped me overcome my fear in Math. I passed Finite Math with a "B" and I made sure to have him in statistics, in which i passed with An "A". His lectures are very clear, and relevant to the quizzes and tests. He is always available for assistance during office hours.
I really like him. He is a nice teache.Hs quizes are easy if you do the homework. When you ask he the question he explain well.
i personally did not benefit from his teaching style.I had asked him to allow us do practice some problems in class to help understand the material and he told me thats what homework is for.I cant do the homework if i dont even know how to approach the material!Hes boring but nice.however i dont believe im passing his class.i wouldnt recommend him
Mr.Johnson is a nice guy. He will spend however much time needed in class for questions on the homework and is very patient with his students. Grades are based on tests and quizzes only so it's a tough class but if you do all the homework and attend regularly, you will pass. He is does not discriminate anyone ever. I would highly recommend him.
horrible teacher. HORRIBLE. my advice is to take payvar and stay as far away from this guy as possible.
Hard to understand, grading criteria is meant to boost those who are not doing well and doesn't help those who are. Quizes are given in the last 5-10 minutes of class, and are worth 25% of your grade. Good luck with that. =P Got an A average on all the tests, and a B in the class because of the quizzes. No one got an A in either of his121 classes
HOrribleeeeeeeeee AHhhh!!! Tests NOTHING LIKE what is taught in class he gave us no idea what was ganna be on the tests as if it was a top secret cia mission. Offers no HELP what so ever ... absolutley take this class if you wanna bust your a$$ studying to pull a d or low c
hard teacher, but definitely knows his subject. he spends a lot of time helping the students. doesn't collect homework. generous with points on tests.
Attendance, while not mandatory, is a must if you want to pass with a good grade. He does not collect homework, but doing the homework is the key to passing the class. He is completely fair and does not discriminate against any gender or race.
Excellent teacher! If you do the homework and study a lot for tests you will definately pass. He is very entertaining in class.
This is a difficult subject for me. Im a B student. It looks like I'll get a B in stats this semester. I didn't buy the study guide. He gives a quiz on every chptr or every 2 chptrs. There R 3 tests plus the final. He hates tardiness and phones. U may get locked out if late or kicked out if phone rings etc. Good guy and good teacher, hard subject.
Do your self a favor.. take payvar!! THere is absolutley NO COMPARASON and all those good ratings? I'am an A student in allll my classes but this class... wow.. its an easy class but not with this BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGG teacher... Learned NOTHING!! Take Payvar...you deserve it.. treat your self to a good education from a good teacher..
He doesn't allow soft drinks in the class!
for 171 & 172. Professor Johnson is the best math teacher. He is very helpful. Although math is not an easy subject, he is extremely nice and helpful to make sure all the students understand the material. Usually the homework is slightly more difficult than anything on tests or quizzes. requires work, but none the less he is a good teacher.
You probably won't find any easier teachers that teach Stats than Johnson. He does a decent job of prepairing you for the tests and quizes from week to week. Can be pretty strict on tardiness and cell phones though, he doesn't even allow you use the restroom! Despite his negative aspects, I learned alot from this class.
Mr. Johnson is a great professor. I had him for Math 90 and really learned a lot so I signed up for his Math 121 class. He does assign homework everyday and tells you to be prepared for 3 hours of homework a night, but it hardly takes that long to do. He is a funny guy and always willing to help any student who seeks his help.I think he's GREAT!
He is a very hard teacher although a very good one also. He wants you to learn so it is very important to do the hw in order to keep up. He is strict: no drinks, no bathrooms, no cell phones. Stats is a very hard subject and Johnson will even make it harder. He's not a bad teacher but hard teacher.
Horrible at teching! notes dont make sense very scatterbrained. he will use the same example that he told you the first day of class till the end of the semester. im a fan of math classes but he doesnt know how to teach it and its really upsetting if your hoping to understand the homework when its nothing like the notes you took in class.
This dude seriously makes a mistake every other question when hes giving examples. Its quite annoying, im taking him for math 90 and i find him to be alright nothing special. Homework is every night though
Johnson cannot teach for anything. I learned prob 80% of the material from the book. He is always messing up while giving examples, tends to skip steps. Not very helpful, if your going to take a math class take McKenzie!!!! HORRIBLE!!!!!!!Never again
Great guy but his teaching style did not mesh well with me. I'm a B math student, but I usually do real well. Not in this class! I busted my hump and still got Ds on my exam! I studied, did all my homework, for nothing. The final was the most difficult test I ever took. About 1/3 of the class did not even have time to finish! Avoid
This class moves very quickly, and, unfortunately, it was very difficult for me to keep up with his teaching style. Learned mostly from book and math drop-in center. I didn't have enough time to finish ANY of my tests, including the final. He's nice and helpful out of class, but in-class is a different story.
Moves way to fast and expects you to already know the material. do not take
Good guy who loves calculus but expects WAY too much of students. Will explain calculus concepts like they're elementary algebra theories, which is irritating. Homework and quizzes are relatively easy, but tests are extremely hard (half the class failed each of the three tests). Be prepared to work for a deep, deep understanding of calculus.
A great college level instructor! He is strict but fair. His teaching style is geared 2help students succeed for years 2come- his teaching quality is of superior quality than McKenzie's. I only rcvd a B+ in Mr.Johnson's class but have rcvd "A's" in all my other Stats classes b/c of how Mr.Johnson instilled the material. Ask ??s during & after class!!
Terrible teacher!! Does not care about his students whatsoever! Never explained anything and his tests were just ridiculous. SO much harder than any of the material we went over in class. Wish I would have just dropped. Avoid him the best you can...
Johnson does not collect homework yet assigns an assignment each night & expects it done. He is very good about answering questions & we never had a pop quiz. He is a bit forgetful at times but he is a good teacher & you get used to his quirks & odd sense of humor. If you pay attention you can learn a lot from him. I took him for 134 also.
Simple Adv. Algebra course. If you have trouble with math, look around. He's very fast with examples (I'm an engineering major...I understood).
helpful when you don't understand something. kinda boring at times
Easy class. I fell asleep during a couple of lectures but Mr. Johnson is crystal clear when he explains the material. Uses the same "real life" example to explain several different concepts which keeps things simple and understandable. Doesn't collect hw and exams are usually easier than much of the hw. Dont expect a curve but u probly wont need it
He is so BORING!!!! does not care about his students. will snap at you and make you feel dumb. his test are too long for the time he gives. homework everyday doesnt give partial credit its either right or wrong. he talks to fast and expects you to alreadyt know what he is talking about. lectures are rearly relevant to hw. overalll not the best.
He was a good teacher and he was helpful. He said if you don't study for like 3 hours a day for math, than you won't pass the class. He wasn't kidding either. I did alright, but i need to study more. Otherwise he's helpful and he wants his students to understand the lessons he teaches.
This is a difficult course but Johnson certainly makes it seem easy. Terribly disappointed in my final grade and grading structure in general. First math class I've taken in which HW is mandatory and that killed my grade in the end. I got an A on every exam except the final and still finished with a B. I still can't believe this.
This guy is awesome. I had him for math 90 and couldn't have had a better teacher. He knows what you asks and creates problems to satisfy your question. I had Alcantra(DO NOT TAKE), i passed with a C but this guy is waaay better. I did no homework and passed with a B because of his amazing teaching style. Do take!
Math 101. He is a bad teacher. He talks at you but doesn't teach you. He knows the material & while explaining he expects you to understand without explaining how he got there. Example i am taking logics & understand it. When we cover logic in his class, he just creates confusion. Don't take his class.math is confusing enough with out his lecture
I can't complain about his class. It's fair, and he'll help you as much as he can. You just have to put in the time to do the homework he assigns until you get the concept down. It's really easy to fail because he doesn't collect the homework and it doesn't count against you if you don't do it. Make sure you study hard for the exams
I thought he was a great professor. If you are there to learn and be serious about your school work..... perfect class for that. It is a lot of work, but its not a frustrating class. He is very clear in his lectures and lets you use an index card for the tests. Final is cumulative, but you can use a full page of notes. Great professor!
Good teacher! For me his lectures were not confusing, his labs were very clear, and his tests are passable. This was my second time taking stats and my first teacher wasn't good at all. But he made the subject very easy! If you study EVERY day then this class will be easy!
MARK MY WORDS: AVOID THIS TEACHER AT ALL COSTS. I got into a car accident and he wouldn't let me turn my homework because "He doesn't accept makeup work" Secondly he makes mistakes everyday while doing problems with us, the class has to correct him. I see a problem with this. The only reason I'm passing is because i took this class in High School.
I thought this class was extremely difficult. Homework everyday and sometimes an extensive amount of it. I didn't do too well because of how I was confused most of the time when he would lecture. He would make many errors while teaching and the class had to correct his mistakes. I wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you plan to teach yourself.
Do not recommend for students w/ a learning disability or who struggle w/ math. Horrible with DSPS accommodations. Doesn't allow graphing calculators on quizzes or exams. Allowed notecard on exams. Doesn't collect hw. Dislikes tardiness & cell phones. Often loses track of time and lets class out late. Brief & unclear directions for lab assignments.
I could care less how strict or mean he is, but We're 2 weeks away from final & in 1 day, we learned 2 new chapters & we have quiz the next day on 1 of those chapters & 2 previous chapters. There's no time 2 digest the material (let's not forget we're in STATS) This class will be the reason universities will rescind my approved acceptance. UNFAIR!
Quizes are easy, but tests do not reflects taught material. You have to use the book if you want to learn anything. The examples he gives are useless and lectures are extremely boring. Recommend taking another professor for 130.
Assigns homework every day, that's how he takes attendance after the first week, and if you miss 3 days, he will drop you. He gives quizzes every Thursday. Exams every fish weeks. He does not give practice tests (even for the final!) He lets you drop your lowest test score. He's a nice guy outside of class, but not in class. Wouldn't recommend him.
This professor (while he might have made a great rocket scientist) is a terrible math teacher! He'll typically write in a complex equation that fills half the whiteboard, turn around and ask "any questions?" While the class is still trying to figure out where to begin asking, he suddenly erases the whole thing saying "next one!" He's way beyond us
For Statistics last Spring. I'm not fantastic at math in general but I got an A. You need to keep up with it everyday. No homework due, just labs which are worth a lot of points (easy + well explained). Notecard on exams! Very few passed in my class. He has a sense of humor and is very helpful. You can pass with a C if you put the effort in.
Not bad, took him over the summer. His exams are pretty much quizzes plus other problems. Homework is not collected, which makes it easy to not do it. Some people can get away with it, some will not. I didn't do them and got a B. You might even get away without having a textbook if your notes are good. No formulas in finite.
While VERY smart, Professor Johnson is one of those math people who just can't understand that the rest of us just aren't. He becomes visibly irritated when you ask too many questions. He can be very short and comes off as rude. If you are a math person, he would be great for you. For the rest of us, we need someone more humble and basic.
Professor johnson is an outstanding educator. I can honestly say he is one of the best in the region. The man knows his mathematics, there is no doubt about it. If you are serious about math and plan to learn this is the professor for you. You will prosper in his guidance. If your looking for an easy grade then take someone else dont, waste his time
I dont understand why the negative reviews on this professor, he is excellent and very clear about what he expects you to know for the exams. What i liked the most about this professor is that he does not trick his students. Whatever he covers in class is what he believes is most important and forsure will be on the exam.
Great professor and all around awesome guy. His lectures can be a little hard to follow but if you've done the homework, you'll keep up just fine. He's always willing to go back and review if something gives you trouble, and he's very helpful in his office hours as well. Put the work in and you'll get a lot out of his course.
I actually took him for Math 138 (Calculus for Business/ Economics) Excellent instructor, the material is very difficult however he made it seem simple to understand. He definitely goes out of his way to help his students understand the concepts and apply them accordingly. He was also available during his office hours which was great.
Horrible. I gained 10lbs due to stress from this class. Ways to pass his classes, already know all the material (he teaches once and expects you to be an expert), DO ALL THE HOMEWORK, Try to be ahead 2-3 sections. Khan academy will be your best friend. Easy homework problems. Hard problems on Tests. Expect curveballs on exams and anxiety.
This is the hardest class I have ever taken, hands down. Professor Johnson really knows the subject, but I feel like it is hard for him to explain. He will go through a bunch of examples without really explaining what it is you are doing. I like his excitement for the subject, but that doesn't help me learn calculus.
Johnson does not collect HW, so he gives around 20 problems a day. 2/3 of the class is going over HW because we do not go over the material covered by the HW. He never says what will be covered by tests, and around 1/2 the got below a D on each exam. The final can replace a test score, but does not tell you what is on it. Around 2/3 dropped/failed.
If you are someone who needs to be taught to understand Calculus, do not take him. He doesn't really teach. You have to teach yourself by doing the Home work and he gives like 18-24 problems a day. He does answer questions in class on home work, but only on what was assigned the day before. People who got an A in his class, it wasn't because of him
Hardest most unfair final I ever took!!! Had a chance to get my B in his class. Failed the final (after weeks of studying) and got a C. Tells you to study notes, quizzes, tests, HW aka everything. half the test had problems that build off each other, so get one wrong all wrong. He gave me a zero on one problem because I wrote it down wrong. ZERO
I took this class thinking "I don't mind if the teacher is hard as long as they're good." Horrible teacher. NO TEACHING. Gives insane amounts of HW. Not collected, but gl passing if you don't do it. Exams are terrible. Feels like most of the questions are curve balls. Not exaggerating when I say half the class got below a "C" on every exam.
I took his MATH172 class and it was the hardest class I've ever taken in my life. I got a 97% in Calc1 and dropped down to a 76% for Calc2. He does little to expand on ideas and left most of the learning to homework. To make it through the first two tests I ended up going to Ashley Yu's class to supplement the lack of actual "teaching".
If you want to pass his class, you better ask a lot of questions in class because being shy to ask questions will gift you an F or a W. Go to his office hour for more guided directions if you are confused. Youtube will be your friend but also bear in mind that his method of solving problems is a little different, so ask him for help. I got an A .
I took stats in high school, so going into the class I already knew the material. Johnson, was lw confusing so I had to rely on my old notes. The only thing that brought my grade down were the labs. The labs are graded hard and weighed a lot. Quizzes were every week and homework is never collected. I passed by just showing up for quizzes and tests
