One of the three best professors in the world. I took him last semester at valley and it was the best semester ever. Funny, smart and very interesting. The class goes by in a breeze.

The BEST ever! His "festivals" a.k.a. tests are pretty basic as long as you read the material. Makes class enjoyable. He is hilarious! You MUST take one of his classes!!!!

I love this teacher! I took him while I was pregnant, which was all the better. He always made me laugh, which was good for me and the baby, and when I was feeling down, he always brought me up. As everyone will tell you, this is possibly the best professor Valley College has to offer. He does demand that you do the work but is very cool. Fun class... the 104 class given during winter and spring sessions is a great way to get the class done with and he makes the day fly by... Sign up early for his classes they fill quickly.

What can I say? The best teacher Ever....I still haven't recieved my grade, but I'm that confident about him. Can't really be absent because you miss work, you will want to be there anyways. Offers so much extra credit that you will recieve an A for sure:)

Marteney is one of the nicest and funniest teacher at lavc. He makes class interesting. There were a few times when he came into class dancing and singing...He was always happy with a smile. This is one class you would not want to miss, because your constantly laughing. He also has fesivals which are fun too. I highly reccommend this teacher!

He is totally one of the best teachers I ever had...he made learning the material interesting knowing that most students are only there to fulfill other requirements (not to become speech majors)...this is a definitely a teacher i recommend. The workload's moderate, the tests aren't too bad and you'll learn a thing or two about real life.

You have to do the work, but it is very reasonable, all you have to do is listen, and his lectures are actually interesting! Attendance is important because he gives a lot of in class assigments for which he gives credit. Tests are not difficult but you have to memorize. He gives you a lot of opportunities for extra credit. He's very entertaining and easy going. Its NOT hard to get an A as long as you do your work.

Mr Marteney is a great teacher. He gives you several opportunities to succeed in his class. His tests were sort of hard, but he gave extra credit, and I ended up with an A. Don't let his tests worry you, just make sure you do well on his festivals and research project and you'll get a B at least, and an A with extra credit. He's cool as hell.

This is a really easy class. You just do all the work and read the short chapters in the book you'll get an A. Your tests are multiple choice and he has study guides to help you. Put in the effort it's really easy and he's funny!

BEST TEACHER EVER! I Took his speech 151 class which is group com. Its the easiest class, and one of the best classes I have taken. He is a very chill funny teacher. All we did was get into groups everyday and do problems in the book. Justshow up becase he does have you turn in in class group work. Book is easy to fallow, and test are not hard.

I loved Mr. Marteney class online. He is a great professor. He is not hard at all!!! There are discussion topics every week and also weekly quizzes which are straight from the book. There is a final assignment and final exam but if you study they are not hard. He is very clear about what he wants!!Take him, he is good!

I went into this class thinking it was going to suck. I really didn't want to take it and within 10 minutes, he changed my mind. He is lively and smart and gets everyone involved, he is very, very funny. I still remember and use the concepts that he taught us in that class. I highly recommend this teacher for ANY class!!!

He has an original teaching style, pulling way from the rut of normal lecturing. His online Directed Studies class is fun and informative. He seems easy to please. Only negative: A TON of typos in his online lectures. Seems like he typed them with his eyes closed! Love this class though!

The BEST teacher I ever had. I have gone on and have my BSN from CSUN but still remember this teacher as being the best. He really cares about his students and gets into teaching. Got an A in his class. Does give you lots of work, but I find the ones complaining are the lazy students. The work is not THAT hard, just alot of it.

I took his online Argumentative Speech, and I learned a lot. It was an intense course, but he made it very fun, and informative.

Ok...here is the deal. There are a few speech teachers at LAVC who rate themselves to get students to enroll in their classes...but this Prof is not one of them. He is authentically a great professor. He challenges the mind and teaches things that you can actually use in real life. This class is very rewarding and insightful...I LOVED IT!!

To answer the previous person's post: No, you don't need to go to class; it's fully online. Instead of talking, you write your arguments and debate on the message boards. :) Good class, and excellent professor!

Talk about informative, challenging and engaging! This is THE class! I loved the online discussions so much, I became a TA for Profjim last semester. He is witty, well-informed and wants his students to challenge themselves, while being guided in their critical thinking skills. Essays are thought provoking, the workload is balanced. A+ teacher.

I loved this teacher! He his the first professor at lavc I can actually say that I learned a lot from him. He uses a different method than most. Incorporating YouTube videos to get the point across and always keeping the students attention. Quizes were based on the book, the book that he wrote. He's very informative. Great class!

I took this class online - it was a lot of work, but a good class to take, you learn a lot. Make sure you have the time to put in the work, I know some online class don't require a lot of time, this one does.

Marteney's online argumentation class is awesome. It's work but you end up learning so much. You participate by message boards, you take quizzes weekly and you have 4 hw asssignments. He gives you plenty of time.The "modules" are intresting online lectures and the textbook is clear and easy to understand.Do get the book,you need it for the quizzes.

Overall this class was interesting and you can tell the professor is very passionate about the material. Most of the class consists of weekly discussions with a few quizzes and assignments thrown in. This was not a difficult class, but sometimes the professor is not very clear with what he wants. Gives lots of extra credit, so an "A" is pretty easy

He's an EXCELLENT teacher. I'm a teacher, and I took his class about how to use Canvas, a new online system--and he modeled for me how to teach, reminding me of what's important: validating students by prompt and constructive feedback, quickly answering messages, and keeping class interesting.

Took Professor Marteney's online class for Communication 104 and his class was GREAT! His lectures were very clear and easy to understand. He uses humor which makes the class more fun. He gives MANY chances for extra credit! His class is easy to pass, stay on top of your assignments and make sure to log in daily and you'll be fine! Great teacher!

Professor Marteney makes everything very easy to understand. He has a great way of explaining things to make them relatable. Provides lots of great information and resources in the online modules as well as great information in the text.

I loved taking this class online. The work assignments weren't overwhelming and it allowed me time to work on my other courses too. He is available to help and creates forums so we can ask questions. He also gave lots of opportunities for extra credit. If you don't pass, I don't know what to say. The class was easy to follow and fun.

Helpful podcasts , minimal notes, and a cheap self written textbook, what more do you want? Participation in online discussions is mandatory, however the topic choices are intriguing enough to keep students engaged. Quizzes are right out of the textbook and the final is a mock trial essay. Overall, very easy course and quick to address concerns.

The online class is self paced and has about 40 assignments, but they are not time consuming. The class is designed for you to get an A. The criteria is clearly spelled out and you can redo assignments to boost your grade, but its unlikely you'll need to. There are several extra credit opportunities. It's easy to get ahead and finish early.

I really enjoyed taking Professor Jim Marteneys communications class. Thanks to his progressive and engaging teaching style I was able to gain invaluable critical thinking skills and argumentative skills. I would highly recommend taking this class, you will grow so much as a person and have a lot of fun in doing so too!

I really like the way the class is set up because it's meant for you to succeed while still making you do work, and it's just the right amount. I really appreciate the fact that there are no due dates, allowing you to work with your schedule, but just don't fall too behind! he is super responsive and a quick grader. would recommend this class!
