Ouch don't take this from him. Take the class from Maroney instead. Nice guy but tough to understand and likes to throw trick questions into exams. Very tough class with him. I had to drop it cause I was flunking and then got a high 70 with Maroney.

One of the best professors at the UofR! I really liked the way he did tons of examples and questions, it was so much easier than being lectured about the theory. He has the best stories and anecdotes out of any prof I've had. Highly recommended!

Exams are really long, I know cuz I just finished one. Study from old exams and look for tricks he might throw into questions. The green book he makes you buy helps a lot. Study hard for his exams and go to class.

He is a good prof but a reading package for $53 that consists of 100 loose pages(similar to a $12 lab book) seems overpriced especially when the Jim Mason holds the copywrite. Most profs provide online web resources that are open domain or free. Hmm

A very helpful man that is always willing to take time out of his day to help out. If you are looking to do good on exams, study up on his old one's that he gives you b/c they are pretty close to what he will give you.

I love Jim, he has great character. But his teaching is lacking. I think he is bored with it all. He hardly follows his notes; the textbook has basic information and is basically useless; Jim 'shows' real world examples but doesn't 'explain' how to do it. You can lost VERY easily in his class.Study

Great guy, very helpful when you go to see him. Ignores WebCT after mid-semester though. Start your project early and you'll do fine. I would like to have had more detailed discussions with guest speakers, not just general 'how we got started' stuff.

He didn't help me learn very much. He sat behind the counter alot and seemed more bored than we did. Although he is a very nice prof, he didn't seem to be helpful. The average in our class was very low and in his other class, assuming I wasn't the only one who felt this way.

This was the hardest class I've ever taken. The class averaged somewhere in the 50% range. He just runs examples and doesn't explain them very well at all. He doesn't teach, only does examples. It was a boring a terrible class from a boring and terrible prof. Try Maroney instead.

A SUPER hard class and it didn't have to be, he seems helpful but you just get more confused - ignores the text book, spends too long on one section and then rushes through the last several sections - class average was 58.

Go to every class and you should ace this course. He takes you step by step repeatedly through everything he'll ask on exams. Don't try to skip and follow the text in this class though. I skipped a lot, had to work like crazy to get ready for the final. Would recommend this prof!

What a great guy. Very helpful, responds to all emails and he genuinely cares. I had very little interest in the subject area prior to taking the class and little afterward but Jim made it worth while.

Great prof! You will do fine as long as you are not like me and think you can not go to class and learn from the text book. GO TO CLASS, DO THE WORK HE ASSIGNS, REVIEW THE SAMPLE EXAMS CAREFULLY and you will do very well in this class.

Jim OR James Mason, check out both ratings. Here's the story, I failed the first midterm w/35%, I didn't study very well. Do the practise exams and then check the answers and you'll get in the 80's (which I did on the 2nd midterm). He's great, always willing to help anytime. I can't stress to you how great of a prof he is. No surprises.

Jim is a great guy he really cares about the student....he puts old exams up on WebCt to practice from and DO these exams and u will ace the midterms because they are basically the exact same just different numbers. And if u need help dont be afraid to ask....Jim is always willing to help his students

James is a great teacher and one of the nices teachers at the UofR! He has many great stories that are very interesting. He knows how to keep everyone alert by firing questions at individuals in a friendly way. I would definately take another class from him if I could!

Easy class, waste of money. If you want to learn about the fundamentals of small business management, don't take 302 from Jim. If you want to hear pointless stories, boring guest speakers, and unapplicable lectures, take 302 with Jim. I can honestly say that I didn't learn a thing, and still got a great mark.

Be prepared to work. Keep up with the readings and actually do some of the questions in the text. They're very helpful in helping you prepare for the midterms. Although another student said that the final was rough, I actually thought the 2 midterms were harder than the final. Just make sure you completely understand the concepts!

His case studies and group presentation were pretty easy but his tests were super hard because he'd never taught the class before and had no idea what he was doing!!! might be better in the future but i doubt it?

Great guy. I had him for several classes and find that the more advanced the class, the better he does at teaching it. When doing examples in lower-level classes he tends to gloss over steps that probably seem obvious to him but may leave students behind. But I would definitely recommend him for 400. Best Admin class I ever took, hands-down.

I have had him for a few classes and he is one of the best professors in the entire University. He has the ability to put any student at ease and is capable of stimulating some of the most interesting class discussions I have ever been a part of. If you have not taken a class from him you have missed out.

Really good teacher. Every class is about him doing examples from the textbook. (only 8 chapters to learn) There wasn't a need to come to class as he has solutions to textbook questions on Webct. Buy the book and study on your own, easiest that way. He tells funny stories and he is charismatic. Easy mark

Great prof. Highly recommend. Teaches through doing the problems. Exams are all problems. Provides lots of past midterms. The exams are the same set-up. If you can do the past midterms, you will do well. Keep up with the questions in the textbook and you'll do good.

best bus prof hands down, knows it all. go to class and do examples all class get out early, great stories and tests are sooo easy, provided you do some of the five old tests he has posted. super simple stuff, exactually what you would expect from a 200 level class. has study sessions if anyone needs help too, overall best best best by a mile!!!

Boring as hell, tells the same stories over and over, but a really nice guy. The class is all math and you can either do it or you can't, there is no way to **** your way through this class like most business courses. He makes so many mistakes while he is teaching that it becomes really confusing and frustrating.

Really nice guy! For 270 you either understand the material or you don't. He talks pretty fast, but just tell him to slow down and he will. Cares about the students sets up "labs" for extra help. Pretty fair marker.. you can explain the steps and get almost full marks without doing any math!

Useless class and useless prof! Doesn't teach, just talks about his 837 jobs that he has had in his life. He expects you to know the book (all 700 pages) like you're married to it. His useless teaching makes me wonder why I pay for university. AVOID this class with him. All he has is a midterm worth 40% and a Final worth 60%.

worst prof ever. Legit slept while we wrote an exam. Talks about his life story every class instead of teaching. then when he tries to teach he accomplishes nothing and goes way to fast. Doesnt give you enough time on exams, you have to teach yourself the entire class. avoid at all cost.

He is a great guy, and loves to tell stories, but I really had to work and went to him every week to get a 70 in that class. You need to be strong in math to be in his class. He isn't very good at explaining, but will stop if somebody speaks up. If there is an alternate prof, take the other one.

I liked Jim as a person. But, sometimes he would go off on rants that did not relate to anything we were talking about. Just seems like an old guy that likes to tell stories which is sometimes pretty sweet, but made me want to fall asleep.

Jim is hilarious. Our class consisted of a 35% midterm and a 65% final and in all honesty this man was just awesome to be around. He is fricking hilarious and has some of the best one liners I have ever heard but at the same time do not be fooled. If you do not study, you will be absolutely demolished.

His grading structure is incomprehensible because the assignments he said he would hand out and the quizzes he said he was going to give he never actually gave us. On the other hand, the feasibility study was one of the better projects I've ever done

I have heard that Jim is a smart guy, it would have been nice for this to show in class. Jim put no effort into teaching this class, I could have skipped every class wouldn't have mattered. This class was SPRAY AND PRAY (spray broad concepts, pray someone gets them) They charged extra on their textbooks for online resources which we can't use!

Likes to ramble on his own stories that may or may not have anything to do with class lecture. He is great if you pay attention to what he is trying to teach you - to look for the why in things instead of using a cookie cutter answer. Participation is 20% of the grade and he has a really easy final, definitely recommend.

If you can grasp the math around the concepts, this class is a breeze. It's two midterms (25% each) and a final (50%). Jim posts all of his old exams online. Do them and you'll get 80+. Tended to be quite dry in lectures. Didn't explain concepts in-class but will give you the time outside of class and is extremely helpful. Wants students to learn!

Jim is the nicest prof ever. He's incredibly intelligent and willing to help you with classes he doesn't even teach. He genuinely cares about the students. His teaching style is very much practical and not so much theory. His tests have theory in the MC, but most marks are the theory. Do the theory yourself. Posts slides and prev exams, read these!
