Cool professor! Watch too much videos. Note taking is clear. Easy quizzes if you go to class consistently.
Great class, great teacher. I learned a ton. He's really laid back and a generally cool teacher. Easy 'A' if you read and go to class. (Fun lectures---- he plays the guitar and does the duck walk!)
do the following: have 6 ppl taking the same class, 1 person takes notes for 1 day, so you will only have to go the class every 2 weeks, isn't that sweet? hehe
If you are used to listen to radio, this class will be a piece of cake
a class that you might really enjoy
If you like rock and roll, TAKE THIS CLASS WITH MCINTOSH. Went to Berkley school of music, DEFINITELY knows his stuff. Will play guitar to demonstrate styles and notes are clear. Never takes whole class time, and quizzes are easy if you go to class.
Too easy.
Great teacher. If you take notes you'll have no problem. He also goes over the tests the class before you take it. He plays guitar and is generally super cool.
awsome teacher (he's goofy), fun class (he plays the guitar in class), and very easy tests (if you go to class). reminds me of going to music class back in elementary school. generally a very recommendable class.
he literally TELLS YOU what is on his quizzes and tests (mid and final) everything is in your notes. he shows alot of movies so it might get boring but VERY easy class.
if you like music then you will love this class. He reads straight from the tests/quizzes, all you have to do is take notes and you will pass the test and the class
boring at some points needs more exitement
Easiest Class, Plays Guitar, and Gives answers to tests and quizzes, Its rock and roll not real life
I loved this class. I took it my freshman year of college and I wanted to take another! He was my favorite professor of all my classes that semester. It's not a boring class at all. I loved learning about the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. A great class to take anytime!
Basically what everyone else said. Awesome class, nice but goofy teacher, EASY TESTS that he will tell you what's on the class before. The only reason I got a B is because he has a strict attendance policy and I had a trip planned a year in advance and he wouldn't let me make up the first quiz.
If you're going to take History of Rock and Roll (MUS 125), take it with McIntosh. One of the best professors I've had, bar none. Not only is he funny, but he'll give you a majority of the answers to the exams in the class prior. The class is an easy A.
OMG, I'm so glad to see how much everyone else loves this guy! Great Prof. Easy, funny, and an awesome guitarist. Not to mention that his iodl is Keith Richards, lol. He definitely needs to be teaching other classes. . .we need more music history at UNLV people!
i took him bcoz i heard this was such an easy class! boy were people right! ok, the music he plays r boring & he cracks me up when he plays his guitar, but other than that,as long as you have his notes, u'll pass! dont buy the book, its a waste of money & u dont need it.
easy exams, he gives you the questions! funny, nice teacher. the class is so much fun!!! highly recommended
The best professor in the world! I would love to take his class again, if I could!
Take him. You'll have an easy A and this class is pretty fun.
Took this class in the summer. Very interesting, and the prof was hilarious. He has a review the class before a quiz and tells you exactly what he wants you to know.
He was into what he taught. He brought in his guitar for hands on demonstrations. The material is easy already, but his teaching made it even easier. If you're planning on taking this course, make sure he is your instructor.
he plays guitar
Easy ad interesting class. Make sure you go and take the notes and listen. You DO NOT need the book. Gives questions that are on the test. Mostly just watching a lot of videos.
Jim is awesome. Really fun class. Even if this topic isn't that interesting to you, you will like it. There are 4 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. He gives a review before each and tells you exactly what you need to know. Super easy class and Jim is really funny. You will definitely enjoy yourself.
this teacher rocks. take his class!!!!!!!
He is the easiest teacher ever!! This class is worth taking with this professor. He doesn't assign any HW, there are only 4 quizzes, midterm and a final throughout the whole class and before each quiz he goes over everything you need to know. It is a guaranteed A!! He knows a lot about the subject too which makes it more interesting.
This teacher is great, everyday is pure entertainment. He's goffy and fun, the material is interesting, and his tests are only hard if you miss the review day. Very easy A- if you go to class.
very easy and clear in what he wants his students to know for the semester.
This guy is awesome! If you are gonna take this class he is the best professor to have!
Very easy teacher. He gives demonstrations on his guitar during class and shows a lot of films so it doesn't make the class that boring. He gives you all the questions that are going to be on the midterms/quizzes beforehand, and all you have to do is look up the answers in your notes. I loved this class a lot, take him!!!
This teacher was AWESOME! DONT BUY THE BOOK! He gives you all the questions to the test. Come to class and take extensive notes!
Easy Class Easy A.. Just take notes, and he gives you every SINGLE question for every test and final.. Wha teacher does that.
This class was so much fun!!! It was a really cool topic and all you do is watch movies and listen to music. There is little note taking and you do not need to book!! The tests and quizzes are super easy. There is no reason for anyone to get lower than an A in this class
Awesome professor! Very informed.
Highly recommended! Doesn’t take attendance, before the quiz he gives you ALL the questions. If you miss class just google the questions. Makes class very interesting, he got me into different genres of music that I wouldn’t have considered before. Very knowledgeable, loves the subject. No homework, no pop quizzes. Very funny and understanding.
easy class, great teacher
AHH! JIM is great! i love that he will come to class and rock out on his guitar. free spirited and definitely knows what he's talking about. not a great speller, which erked me sometimes. but hey he's a musician so i'll let it slide. really helpful and wants everyone to learn about rocknroll and get A's!
Take this guy if plan on taking MUS 125. This is litterally the "School of Rock" and Jim is Jack Black. Class was really fun to attend and you learn alot!
So easy! All you have to do is go to class to get the notes (or get them from someone else). He tells you the questions that will be on the tests. Grade is based on 4 quizzes and 2 tests. He's so funny too! But make sure you keep your test scantrons... big class and his grad assistant had a tendency to misplace grades.
So easy! get the notes. He tells you the questions that will be on the tests. Grade is based on 4 quizzes and 2 tests.
this class is beyond easy. you don't have to go to class if you can get the notes from someone else but it's so fun that you wouldn't want to skip. he gives you the answers to quizzes and plays his guitar for the class sometimes
Such an easy A I would definitely recommend him!
Easiest class of all time. Don't have to show up, but its a fun class to be in. He plays his guitar in 50% of his class to show you styles of artists. Gives you all the questions on the test.
Really fun class and an easy A! Definitely recommend taking this class! Also, the professor is really cool and funny. Very laid back. All tests and quizzes were online and were very easy cuz he tells you whats going to be on the quiz and they come directly from the notes.
Never need the textbook. He gives you all the notes you need for quizzes, demonstrates with the guitar and piano sometimes. Quizzes are online and you can use notes so it's pretty hard to fail. It's worth it to go to class just to hear his commentary on the material. Great teacher overall. =)
Great class! Easy and very interesting. Started using the textbook this semester, but it is amazing! Take this class, you will not regret it!
hes a great teacher! just make sure to take notes and there is not reason why not to get an A. all tests and quizes are online
Easiest class ever. You dont need to buy the book if you always go to class and take notes. And why not this class is awesome. He goes over all the questions on the test before the test. Plus this guy is completely talented at what he does. TAKE THIS CLASS
Awesome teacher! Fun class, very easy. He goes over everything, and all the tests and quizzes are online so you can use your notes and book. Take him if you can!
Great class, the quizzes & finals are online so it's easy.
Interesting classes, easy online tests. Passionate teacher. Often brought his guitar to demonstrate. Laidback and funny.
This guy was cool. Sometimes brings his guitar to class and shows various techniques that guitarists use. You don't really need the textbook. Sure, you could take this class for the easy "A" but hopefully you will discover some really good music while you're at it.
Very cool professor. Brings in guitar to show his skills and help you get a better feel of the music. Tests based off his notes, some info from videos shown in class and MOSTLY the book, but are also done online. Funny and entertaining, highly recommend him!
McIntosh is a cool teacher and shows his passion for music. Attendance is not mandatory, but the in-class notes will assist you in his online tests. He shows quite a few videos and brings his amp and guitar to class. The book was helpful, but if you are trying to save money, you can do without it. FUN CLASS!
This class is extremely easy as it is. Jim McIntosh makes it even easier. He has the coolest voice, just like a DJ. He provides all the notes during the lecture and all the tests are online.
Great class, attendance not mandatory, but his lecture notes appear on test and some are not found on test. Took over summer, tests were in class and were open book, it helps if you read chapters before test.
I only used the book if I missed something from the practice quiz. Your grade will be based on three things: quiz, PR packet, and concert review. Do your weekly work -which are super easy - and you will pass with an easy A. Take this class!
The easiest class on campus. No attendance required. Just use the book when you take the online quizzes. Easy A.
Attended class the first week, then didn't show up the rest of the semester and still got an A. Everything is done online even the final exam. Quizzes are easy so are the assignments. Final exam is fairly long but open book. Insanely easy class.
EASIEST A ever!
I absolutely love him. Sometimes I sit in on my friend's class with a different professor and he's not that great compared to McIntosh! Seriously! Take this class, not only will it be an easy course, but you'll actually find yourself enjoying it too. :)
This class is SUPER easy..only go for the first couple weeks then don't even bother going, every test is online, even the final. EVERYTHING is online. don't even go just do the tests online all the answers are straight out of the book. EASY A!!!
Super easy class. You don't even have to go to class to get an A in the class. All you have to do is the 10 question quiz a week and the answers are really easy to find in the book. If you go to the class, he's really cool and shows you a ton of really good songs and videos. He even does guitar demonstrations.
Easy class. If you're looking for an easy class this is definitely the one to take! You can see the passion and knowledge. There are weekly quizzes, one project, one concert review, and a take home final. It's really basic, just do the work, and have fun!
Jim is an expert musician who knows his Rock n' Roll. He is just a bit disorganized when presenting the material. You have weekly quizzes, one research project, one concert review, and a final, all of which you take online. YOU MUST BUY A NEW BOOK FOR THE CLASS THOUGH TO SUBMIT THE MATERIAL, AS HE DOES NOT USE WEBCAMPUS.
I took notes and went to every class half the semester then stopped going and got A's on every quiz assignment and got an A on final. Everything on the quizzes are from the book. So I advise buying the book. Class no mandatory. But he has a real great passion and hes very interesting and teaches a lot. & likes to play his own music and tell stories
It cannot get much easier than this. Attendance is taken, but classes are usually cut 20 minutes short. If you want the easiest possible fine arts credit, take this!
This class is pretty much the easiest class you will take at UNLV. The lectures rarely (if ever) last the entire time. The lectures are pretty boring, but you have to show up because he takes attendance. He plays his guitar a few times throughout the semester so there's that to look forward to! Make sure to get a new textbook for this course!
Easiest class I'll ever take. There are 1-2 quizzes due each week, but they're SUPER short and open-book online. There are a couple projects but they take no time at all and are graded VERY easily. BUY THE BOOK. All info you'll need comes right from there. The lectures are interesting enough--he plays guitar and we watched videos pretty frequently.
JIM MACINTOSH IS SO HARD!!!!!!! I ATTENDED LECTURE, READ EACH CHAPTER FOUR DAMN TIMES, AND I STILL FAILED THE COURSE! THE EXAMS AND QUIZZES ARE SO TOUGH!!! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! SAVE YOURSELF!!! RUN !!!
You have the buy the book for the access code, but this will be the easiest class you ever take. There are weekly quizzes and a few other assignments, but the overall workload for this class is extremely light.
Easy class to get an A.
He's a really good teacher who knows his stuff when it comes to the history of Rock. He plays his guitar in class sometimes, so really, it's pretty useless to go to class. You have to buy the textbook because all the quizzes are found in the website. The website code is in the textbook. grades harshly on 2 large projects and no retakes on quizzes.
I don't understand how you can possibly fail this class. Show up to class, take the quizzes each week, complete the research paper, concert review, take the final, and you should be in good hands. You don't even need to interact with the teacher because all the work is on you. Instructor McIntosh is just there to teach, take roll, and update us.
Easiest class you can take. Just have to be there 3 times for attendance. The answers to the quizzes are online.
The class itself is a lot of fun. The assignments are super easy, and as long as you stay on top of everything you should be fine. The grad assistant is the one that deals with the grading, so any questions about that should be directed towards him. Great class!
Boring class if you have no interest in the topic of course. Hardly ever went except for the 5 times he took attendance. Despite all that though, this class is an easy A. Should have just taken it online considering that's all I ever did for the class for quizzes or any projects.
Easiest class I've ever taken in my life. All you had to do is show up on "random" days to take attendance, which is the only reason people showed up. However, he usually will give you a heads up. All tests/ quizzes and assignments are online even the final exam. Take this class, you won't regret it. Easy A
Amazing class, learned so much about music. Incorporates videos to make the class more fun and easier to learn. Amazing teacher! Would take again.
MUS125 is the easiest course for a fine arts. Professor McIntosh makes the class interesting. Sometimes he will bring his guitar and play chords or have a jam session. The online quizzes are extremely easy.
Takes attendance 5 times a semester but other than that I wouldn't show up. Seriously so unnecessary. Book is required to purchase for online quizzes, exams, etc. but they're all extremely easy. Easiest class ever, it's a joke.
This class is really easy and would recommend for a fine arts credit. Everything is online and when he does take attendance, he tells everyone the day before.
He is clearly passionate about rock music and has a lot of personal insight to what he is teaching. He takes attendance about 5 times a semester but lets you know when he will be taking it. If you miss attendance it will hurt your grade greatly if you miss. You are required one to two online quizzes a week but they are easily done without reading.
Super chill guy, and funny. He wants students to learn and his projects are super easy. He never took attendance in my class, so maybe the policy has changed. But I would recommend this class to fill your music credit
A really great guy who shows his passion for music. He plays the guitar really well and he gives extra credit to those who attend class sometimes. Overall, it is an easy class, just make sure you read the assigned chapters to do good on the quiz and chapter summaries. The projects aren't at all hard. I'm gonna miss this class! :-(
Easy class to pass. Show up for extra credit, write a 2 paragraph summary and 20 question quiz each week, and write 2 short papers. Very easy A! I would take again. Plus, he brings his guitar to class sometimes which is cool!
He brings his guitar to class sometimes, which is pretty cool. You'll only use the book to get the access code and after that, you'll hardly touch it. Quizzes are due every week with a 2 paragraph summary which takes hardly any effort. You're given two projects and they're unnecessarily easy! If you want an easy A, this is the class for you!
Might as well be an online class. Lectures mostly consist of interviews/documentaries of rock musicians/bands and him fiddling around on the guitar. All of the graded materials are based on the online book summaries (yes 1 for EVERY chapter) & the online quizzes). Other than that 2 written assignments and class attendance (which felt unnecessary)
Super cool and funny professors you can tell he is really passionate about music he brings his guitar to class and plays! Super easy class anybody can get an A just do the online quizzes and 2 projects that are required which are not bad.
I'm already a big music person, so the glossing over of most genres was disappointing. Unorganized teacher. His notes are printed, but the bullet points are uneven and there's writing and blacked out areas. Overall boring. Would not recommend for people that know a lot about music. Tells stories awkwardly.
This class is super easy and he is a really nice guy! Will bring his guitar to class often and you will watch a lot of documentaries. He says in his syllabus that attendance is required but its really not. Get the online txt book through the class website that way you can search key words and not read the whole chapter for the weekly quizzes.
Attendance is extra credit. My class was an in person class, but all the course material is online so you don't really have to show up to class. There are 20 chapters and you just do a small summary and 10 question quiz for each. Final is exam is just from the textbook. I recommend you use the online textbook because its easier to find answers.
Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches! Brings his guitar to class on certain occasions which is entertaining and amazing. Assignments consist of two projects, quizzes, and summaries for the chapters! Definitely recommend taking his class for the music and it isn't challenging.
He's a super chill and fun teacher. MUS 125 is the easiest class I have ever taken. Chapter quizzes due every week, a research paper, a concert review, an online midterm and final. That's it. This is a good class to take with other difficult courses. Jim liked to play his guitar during class.
This teacher is so amazing and whenever I went to class (which was probably half the time,) he was a hilarious. This class is extemely easy, I literally only went to a couple classes and still managed to get a 99%. Just make suret to do the online homework and projects and you're set for the semester.
Professor McIntosh is a really great professor. The textbook is required because you'll need the access code for the chapter assignments and the two projects you'll be doing which are pretty easy. I suggest buying the eBook online because it's $49 compared to the actual textbook which is $60. His lectures go more into depth about the chapters.
Probably the easiest class youll ever take at UNLV. You really dont need to got to class because the quizzes are online and you can read the book. Major assignments are fairly easy. He brings his guitars to class and plays music some days. Would take again if I needed to.
MUS 125 with Mcintosh is SUPER simple, mostly online. Weekly quizzes and summaries. Quizzes were probably the most difficult part of this class, mostly because of the ridiculous time limits (20 questions in 15 minutes). Definitely get the e-text from GRTEP and have it ready while taking the quiz. Two projects and an online final that were all easy.
All you do is take chapter quizzes and do a summary each chapter, two papers, and get credit for attendance. His lectures aren't really useful for the quizzes, however, it is interesting to learn and listen to. He'll bring in his guitar a couple times to play too. He's super cool.
This was class was super easy and it was by far the most fun and interesting class I've had online. 2 "big" assignments that were fairly easy and were no brainers. There are 20 chapters to read and there's always a quiz to it and a Listening Assessment. Take notes on the chapters to get 100% on the quizzes. The final exam is based on quizzes.
We all talk about those teachers who don't care if you have other classes to do work for. This is that guy. I had no ability to find time for the work in this class. Takes far too long to finish it all. And it's a 100 class?! No. Ridiculous.
VERY unhelpful. you can tell he doesn't care for his students. if you ask him for help, he'll email back one sentence replying something irrelevant. even when you keep asking, his reply stays the same. homework was pretty easy. quizzes are timed and from the book, and listening assignments were not bad, just long.
The material was okay if you enjoy music but it takes a long time completing them. There were 2 big projects but they were easy. Professor himself was bad. He does not help his students at all. If you can take this class with another professor, do it. I took him fall of last year and he was terrible.
This was a very easy course. The course work sounds like a lot but this work was always the work I saved for last because it could all be done within an hour or so. The professor wasn't interactive, but the work was all self explanatory.
The class was really easy. You get a listening assignment, a quiz, and a summary for every chapter. There was also a short research project. Answers can be found in the music, in the book, or online. The teacher is horrible in terms of quality though, and often forgot to include all the songs in playlists and sometimes provided broken links.
$120 to upload your homework (REQUIRED), $30 for the coursehero subscription you're going to need. A LOT OF WORK. They expect you to read 4 chapters EVERY week, each of which have 1 listening assignment, a quiz, and a summary ALL DUE THAT SAME WEEK. Even with looking all the answers up this class is boring as hell and takes too long.
Took this class in person and had no interest in the history of rock music. But, the professor made it enjoyable and would bring his guitar in a couple of times. There was an incident where another professor made a noise complaint but it was all good- he continued to bring his guitar. There's always a quiz & summary of the chapters due by Sunday.
Weekly assignments consist of a 20-question quiz and a 100-word summary. The final is a 100-question quiz. Using Ctrl+F is encouraged by the Prof. Sometimes takes attendance on Thursdays. He is not helpful with answering questions, but you shouldn't need him to clarify anything content-wise. He's pretty laissez-faire. Pretty easy overall.
It was a pretty cool class, it's not every day that your professor whips out a guitar. Right now my grade says it's at like 160% though, I calculated my own grade since homie does not respond to emails. He's pretty chill though, and the workload isn't bad at all. Good class to take if you need to fulfill a fine arts credit. :)
Jimmy is a very hands-off professor, pretty much just discusses the material for a little, puts on movies, and plays his guitar on occasion. Nice guy, just doesnt do a whole much. As long as you read the textbook chapters and do the assignment, you can ace this class with your eyes closed.
He is super laid back and nice. Attendance is required, but it shouldn't affect your grade if you show up enough. There are weekly assignments, but they're short and simple. Nothing is submitted or done in class, it is all online (on a platform you have to pay to use). Overall, it is an easy class, plus the material is pretty interesting.
Chill dude, chill class. This is the easiest class to get an A in. Honestly feels like a 2 credit course than anything. I took it back in Fall 2022 but highly recommend this class for fine arts, as this was the most fun class I took in college. The only issue is that he doesn't respond to emails, but honestly, it's unlikely you'll even need to.
Very laid back professor, he explains everything fairly well and is nice. Attendance is not mandatory, but extra credit is given if you attend. The assignments usually consist of reading the chapter from the textbook, taking a 20-question quiz (15-minute time limit), and a short two-paragraph summary of the chapter.
Not super engaging, but when you talk to him directly he's a really interesting guy and he cracks some jokes in class. Super easy, just 1-2 chapters each week with a little quiz :)
