Dr Jim is great, especially when he emphasizes certain parts of a word (hehe)

Great prof. Enthusiastic about his field and students. Loves to bring in experiments and will put on the occasional chemistry magic show.
Ka-Boom!
Dr Jim is awesome :)

he is a tricky ****, i don't think he likes to see students get good grades in his class unless they are the students that go to his office hours
Excellent teacher, but wants to have little to do with you unless you're a chemistry major. Definitly a fun class to experience though.

a good time to be had by all. love the flamethrower and the antics. always encourages student partisipation and very willing to help.
Jimbo rocks, best chemistry class i ever took!
fun to listen to and watch demonstrations
Awesome
funny ****
Awesome teacher
The explosions are great
Dr. Jim Rules!

awesome!
Not only is he funny, but he makes stuff pretty easy to understand
has great demos and is very easy to understand. He is a top quality teacher.
Awsum professor! Makes class intresting
Lame teacher that blows things up in hopes of students liking him
by far my best teacher i understand everything i wish our other professors were more like him i actually like goin to his classes
Pretty much everyone's favorite. Enthusiastic, helpful, knowledgable, and friendly. Breaks everything down into easily understandble components. Regularly makes things explode as part of his lectures - which are consistently well attended.
fun teacher...cool experiments

LOVED EVERY CLASS!
This guy seems cool at first, but you'll soon find out how bad of a prof he is. A 10 year-old could take his notes to the board and copy them verbatim as he does, skip the lecture and read the notes on you own. Blows things up and then prances around.

This guy is a really good prof. Helped me alot.
Fun teacher, nice guy, doesn't really teach that well.
I liked the blowing up stuff and all....but we are talked to like freakin 4 year olds
Tries to make class interesting with cool demonstrations. His class is fun. If something comes up he'll be understanding and let you make up something. Pretty good prof overall.
He makes everything easy to understand and its cool to watch things blow up. Great demonstrations!!
Prof. Jim is a really nice guy. I love his classes and he is a good guy in person. I just wish I got chemistry a little bit more.
Awesome

Very interactive and nice professor
Typical Class: "Well kids, this doesn't have anything to do with what we're studying, but I've got a cool demonstration for you. I built this pipe bomb last night, and I need 2 volunteers." Usually we learn a lot of chemistry after he blows somethin' up.
Makes learning the stuff fun. Awesome demonstrations! BOOM BABY!!!
Dr.Jim will help anyone who is willing to work! He really cares about his students1 Exceptional organization! Knows his s---! What a showman. We love him! Fab Demos!
Awesome!!!
too slow, could teach more interesting things, but he's just too slow. needs to blow something up atleast once a class period.

Dr. Jim rules! His demo's are the best.
excellent prof! take as many courses with him as possible!! especially forensics!

awesome guy, makes chem so much better if its possible
Definitely an energetic professor who makes you want to come to class. Though I really dislike chemistry, and am currently a Global Supply Chain Management student...I was impressed with him as a professor.
LIke Jim Carrey + Caffeine + Knowledge of Chemistry + High Yield Explosives.... He definately loves to blow s*&$ up in class
Dr. Jim is the man. He teaches how to make explosives-does it get any better lol?
Dr. Jim is the shiznit! Not only does he teach my favorite class Chemistry (which is my major), he is my favorite professor! He is so damn funny and it's so much fun to watch one of his "helpers" get something blown up in the palm of their hand! I gotta give him props!
great professor loved the demonstration, really funny and helpful.
Terrible at teaching. Uses (often unrelated) explosions and demonstrations as a way to keep people from falling asleep. Tests questions are horribly written.
Great Professor, always enjoy going to class. Very interactive with students, but can develop a "bad class" that he doesn't like.
Jim's not such a great teacher. He simply tries to entertain through emphasis and explosive demos. When you actually pay attention to what comes out of his mouth, you see how little everything makes sense with the way he explains it. You will do well in his class if you take everything at face value. Otherwise, you're screwed.
awesome teacher extremely helpful
He is not a very good teacher. He messes up frequently on his powerpoints and notes. He exaggerates letters of compounds which is somewhat cool. Simply not a good teacher.
Dr. Jim is basically the most amazing person ever.
Definitely the best teacher I've had so far. Dr. Jim frequently blows stuff up (almost always related to the topic of the day). His notes are easy to understand and he hands out easily followed outlines. A person would have to not show up to fail in his class.
Great Teacher; Like to blow things up!!! Make a crappy subject fun
He is a great professor overall.
Dr. Jim is basically the best professor in the world. I hated chemistry in highschool, and love it now. He makes the occasional mistake, and the class isn't easy, but chemistry isn't supposed to be an easy course. He doesn't give the answers away, you actually have to THINK, but it's clarkson. You should be doing that anyway.
Best teacher ever. He's always so enthusiastic even though he teaches the same things to 3 sections one day, and the same things next year. I can't believe how passionate he truly is about his work. And the manual he uses in class is so handy. Not to mention the lab sections are fun and easy.
Best professor ever. acts like he take 20 shots of 5 hour energy every morning for breakfest
Very good professor.
Great professor and advisor! He truly loves chemistry and spreads this enjoyment through enthusiasm while teaching. He is easy to understand and always willing to help.
Great teacher, one of the best I've ever had. Clear, smart, and challenging. As an advisor, not so great. Wasn't really on top of things, got me into some serious scheduling problems and ended up being removed from being my advisor. Don't take him as an advisor, TAKE HIM AS A TEACHER.
Great professor! I had never taken chemistry before college, so I wasn't very skilled with it, but he made the steps very clear to follow. He helped me understand the basic foundations and core ideas of the subject, even though I had never seen it before.
Dr. Jim is as smart as a whip. I have never seen him nog upbeat. He basically runs the school and has taught every undergraduate set least once. Whatever clarkson is paying him, it's not enough. One conceit I'd like yo make - he doesn't go in depth during lecture And the manual is as detailed as his lectures. You won't learn a ton.
Love the experiments
honestly, the man teaches out of the coloring book that he calls a textbook, i passed because i had previously taken two years of chemistry in high school. however, i helped a lot of people out because i had taken it before. if teaching meant using a self designed coloring book i could do that.
Glad I don't have to take another class with him.
He knows what he is talking about but you won't. Don't expect to do phenomenal in this class. I asked him if he could help me and he said he doesn't have time to worry about me... I wish I didn't have to take this class.
Honestly, I think if he didnt have to teach hundreds of students Chem 1 and 2, he'd be alot easier to get along with. He can come off a bit mean but I think he means well. I failed chem 2 as a chemistry major and didnt get alot of help from the department. So because of this I changed my major. 7.8/10.
Not as great as he seems at the beginning
Really one of the only "big campus" experiences available to students at Clarkson, most other classes are a lot smaller. It's understandable that he doesn't have time for every student but he can be nicer about it.
Great demos in class
he is an okay teacher. teaches for people who were in AP chem classes
Dr. Jim was mediocre. He really counts on a "wow" factor from his potentially dangerous experiments to keep students interested, and is difficult to work with outside of class. If you want a professor that cares about more than his tenure and research, don't take his courses if possible.
Dr. Jim is an entertaining lecturer, but sometimes his antics can get old. He sometimes does awesome demonstrations. He is clear on what he expects, and clearly knows his stuff, but is not always accesible to students. His class is tough, especially if you haven't taken AP Chem, but if you work hard, it isn't too hard to pass. Overall a decent prof
Solid professor, teaches more than memorization, tries to make students come to conclusions on their own. Tests are hard, but if you pay attention in lecture and discussion, do the homework and study a moderate amount you'll do fine. You CANNOT guesswork your way through Chem 1 or 2.
He's the most annoying prof that you will ever have. You fill in the blanks in a notebook for class notes like you are in the 3rd grade. He does unsafe experiments to try to impress students. His exams are not bad but he tries to think he is smart and tries to trick students with dumb questions. His answer keys always have mistakes.
The classes don't bore. Be attentive in class from the beginning or you'll get lost along the way in each class. One HW assignment per week which was great.
Dr Jim makes college chem so much easier and more understandable than most other college professors. While he has his moments, he is an overall great and caring man/professor. I feel like I truly learned chem from him and grew to enjoy it. PS he makes his exams super easy to study for with 5 or 6 practice exams that are very similar to the real dea
Dr. Jim tries to keep chemistry intriguing. I have a lot of respect for him teaching my CM 131 class with over 600 students in it.
10/10 would not take again. I hate chem.
Tbh you seem cool but we never talk. Hmu sometimes. Rate:7/10
If you have trouble in Dr. Jim's class, you are not trying. Online he provides recorded lectures, notes, practice problems, and practices tests that are about identical to the actual tests. Take the time study and you will pass.
Dr. Jim is a good professor. He can rumble a bit in his lectures, but they are very good lectures and are critical in doing good in the course. Doing the practice exams before the tests are helpful, but also make sure you study from your workbook. He likes to throw some trick questions in there.
Take this professor in morning if you want to learn and fun at the same time. I enjoyed his method of teaching.
Solid class and great demonstrations during lecture. Can be a little bit out of touch but covers the material thoroughly and keeps lectures interactive. Doesn't take questions in class but is very accessible in person; he doesn't like emails all that much but will respond.
Does cool demos in class. If you do not go to class or watch the lecture videos you will not pass
Chemistry w/Peploski was as good as it could be. Chemistry was a difficult class for me but Jim was a good teacher. His lectures are interesting because he does experiments in class and they are very fun. He goes fast through each topic which can be difficult but his homework, labs, and recitation help a lot.
Dr. Jim was very outgoing and was able to answer any questions you have.
I had a really rough time learning the material in this class
Awesome professor, great at what he does. His lectures are fun and if you make the effort to show up and do the work you'll do fine.
If you take intro chemistry you WILL have this professor.
He's alright. The lectures are okay and the TA's are great all around. The exams are incredibly hard but with a good amount of work can be passed with flying colors
Dr. Jim's lectures are quite fun and he tries to make them that way. After the start of the semester, however, the demos slow down and grow more infrequent, and the class grows into a sort of repetition. He is very friendly.
Somehow he has the most exciting lectures and the most boring lectures at the same time. Will freak out because he has 5 minutes left as if he didn't wait 10 minutes for people to answer the question at the start of class. It was fine, the tests were a bit hard but if you read the book you'll do fine. TAs are helpful.
Definitely a fun guy during lectures, always has something somewhat interesting to show off, yet also finds a way to make the lecture period feel as long as humanly possible. Class grading is practically all exams, so doing well in them is practically the only thing that matters. Isn't easy to reach and not really super helpful. Rely on TA's.
Does a good job covering material while still trying to make lectures interesting with demos and clicker questions. He can be a bit of a freak about people talking during lectures though. The discussion sections go over very similar material to the exams so definitely show up.
Chem tends to be a "filter class" for a lot of freshman but I found the exams to be fair, even if they took a ton of preparing for. HW has several attempts and he provides a handful of practice exams so students who fail are usually not taking the time they need to pass.
Dr. Jim's lectures can be boring depending on the material, but he enjoys to do demos to make the lectures more fun. The homework is on a regular basis and there are extra ones the night before an exam, but they help a lot material wise. Dr. Jim is such a fun professor and I would take him again
Great professor, no notes.
Very friendly professor, amazing demonstrations in lectures. TAs are helpful and want you to succeed.
Professor Peploski was a great Chem professor. I had him for Chem 1, and Chem 2. His lectures were clear, the textbook was easy to follow, plenty of examples in class, practice exams were just like the real ones, lots of TAs, so lots of opportunities to ask for help. Overall, more challenging than Chem 1, but still a really good course.
Awesome professor for general chem. Not an easy class but not unnecessarily difficult either. You learn a lot!
Dr. Jim made class very entertaining with his demonstrations. Would highly reccomend anyone take a class with him.
Dr. Jim is probably one of the most well-loved professors on campus. Not a single person I know here dislikes him, only the subject (Chemistry). His subject is hard, but if you actually apply yourself you won't have a problem. He's got a million resources to help you pass. The small army of TA's he keeps are all very smart and happy to help anytime
Professor makes engaging lectures with fun demos, though they become less frequent later on. Doing the practice exams and using resources like unstuck ai are key for success.
His class is very easy, easy work if you collaborate with your friends, but people glaze Dr Jim way too much. Its impossible to focus on his lectures, he tries constantly to trick you in tests and people focus so much on him blowing things up in his class that they ignore how actually junky his lecturing is. Puting a 1 to balance out the glazers.
Dr. Jim is one of a kind. A truly amazing professor that cares about his students. His class is designed to meets its purpose of being an entry level Chemistry class. All of his materials associate to what we are learning in class, especially his demos. He and his TA's are extremely helpful in office hours.
It's Dr. Jim!!!
easiest course ever. I loved chem 1 and chem2 taught by him. Very analytical, easy approach to chem. For each exam theres like 3 equations you need to know with 3 variables, and how to manipulate them. Super easy if you can memorize like 3 small things. DONT BUY HIS BOOK THOUGH.
