He is the MAN!!!

HE WAS AN AWESOME, LAID-BACK GUY. HE DIDN'T GIVE OUT TOO MUCH AND HE WAS A NICE GUY TO TALK TO. I RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES.

AWESOME teacher clear and intelligent. LOVE HIS TRIPS...... and he is very cultured, very knowledgable.... see ya at the bar proffesor!!!!

Kick ass professor! Loved hearing his stories and every class was a laugh! Definitely take something with this professor, you won't regret it

This guy is ool and has a diff approach on teaching, you do learn a lot and he keeps you from being bored. He is the man.

good teacher, but not in the conventional way. You'll learn more about life experience than english from him, but class is fun and he does know his stuff.

My favorite class ever! It's not boring, most of the time you get out early and the papers are so easy to write all you have to do is a little research and if your in a bind, he's not gonna be harsh on you! If only ever teacher were like him!

Place is a lot of fun to listen to. He's a phenomal story teller. Shut up and listen in his class. Write down how he wants his papers and do it just like that. Be on time. Good times!

Place is awesome! He really tries to help you get a good grade. You can edit your papers and turn them in until you get a B or above. He def. likes the "F word".LOL!

Took this class. Great teacher, good looking, great biceps. Knows what he is talking about. Great story teller. Take his class(if you can get in). Always fills up because of his known repretation. Prof. Place is a great teacher. He's gives you plenty of time to do papers he assigns and tells you exactally what he wants in them. He also always lets us make up papers. If I have to take another english class Im def going to take it with him.

In a totally straight way, this guy should be in People Magaizine's 100 Most Beautiful People list. Oh yeah, he's also a great teacher. Take this class with him, or drop out now.

THE BEST TEACHER! He is interesting, funny, enthusiastic, helpful, polite... This guy is an amazing instructor, you will learn so much from him. I took 103 and 104 with him because he was so good. Hurry, his classes fill up quick!

My first impression during the first class was that I would not fit well with Jim but decided to give him a chance. I very glad that I did. He may be one of the best teachers I have ever had. He was insightful honest and easy to learn from because he kept my attention. Some thing not easily done. First class.

Yes, getting the grades are easy, but not just because he basically spells it out for you, but also because he would do anything for his students educational process. His stories are hilarious, yet insightful. Register for his class as soon as humanly possible!

Good teacher. To the point and wants you to do well.Very clear in instruction. This was a crash 6 week course and it went smoothly. Read the stories given for assignments and study for tests and you'll do fine.

He was my favorite Prof. so far in my 3 yrs of college. He is full of humor and helpfulness. With re-writes available it's almost impossible to fail his class. I took Eng104 with him - Def. worth trying to get him as your prof.

Jim is easily the best teacher I've ever had. If you have any chance to get into one of his classes, by all means do it. He is a very good teacher. He'll keep your attention, and he'll teach you valuable lessons, both in English and in life. He will help you as much as you ask him, and is very. Very lenient. If you fail this class, it's your fault.

Really easy class. This class consisted of 3 papers and a research paper. He allows you to re-write the 3 papers as many times as it takes to get an A. He is very entertaining and has alot of stories about his life he shares with his class.

Great teacher. Was skeptical at first, but if you show up to his class on time, have required material, and meet all his dead lines, one will pass with flying colors. He's very very helpful if you approach him, but sometimes in class he gets off on a tangent; but nonetheless i made it through!

James Place is a phenomenal professor. He's extremely nice, totally hilarious, and a wonderful instructor. The one semester I spent in a class with him gave way to an interest in an English career for me, and his instruction has stayed with me ever since, shaping my literary interests and paper-writing skills.

By far the BEST teacher I've had. He's absolutely hilarious and keeps all the students on their toes. We had 3 papers and a research paper as a final. He allowed everyone to redo their papers until they got it right.

Hands down, Jim Place was by far the best professor I've ever had at OCC. He's very honest and tells you like it is. Also, he's absolutely hilarious and as long as you're on time and get all of the papers in, you'll pass. I only got an A- because of my attendance. Overall, he's awesome and I highly recommend him.

Mr. Place is such an awesome English teacher. I benefited so much from his class, and from his knowledge on life in general. I recommend everyone to take one of his classes. I took his english class over the summer, and it was tons of fun. He explained out how you need to write all your papers, and it feels like he's just telling you what to do, but in the long run somehow you realize you actually learned something. He's funny too. Best professor EVER. As long as you pay attention and take notes it's easy too

strict attendance policy, but a good teacher and laid back

His choice of stories includes mainly those that are dark, heavy, and with abnormal personalities. He also loves everything about Greek culture. Somewhat repetitive and forgetful, he still manages to prepare you well for successful work on 3 essays + 1 research paper. If you can be serious with assignments, but not with him, you'll do fine.

he is a very good teacher but very strict with his attendance policy. if you miss more then two classes he will drop you from his class, dont think about using your cellphone in his class and if you disrespect him in any way he will call you out. he is a good teacher as long as you pay attention and atleast act interested

Great teacher. Listen to him well - he tells you what templates to use and USE THEM! He is comical. Don't be disrespectful - no cell phone use in class, and don't be late. I recommend every student at OCC take Jim Place for ENG 104. Best teacher I had my entire time there. Guaranteed an A or B in the class. 4 essays for the entire semester. Keeps class interesting and keeps things real with students. Hillarious, always helpful. Will help with college stuff not related to class. Best teacher ever.

Best English teacher thus far! He made class very fun and interesting. His templates for writing made essays and the research paper a cinch. The tools he gives in this class you will more than likely use throughout you college career. Very strict on attendance and cell phone use!Hes there to help you so if you disrespect him he will let you know.

EXCELLENT instructor. He has a fantastic sense of humor and he is very intelligent. His class is easy and you will actually learn a lot. He is very strict about attendance, be warned, but I don't want to miss it anyways. He is definitely one of the best professors at OCC.

Was excited to take his class because of all the great comments but after hearing him scream at the class day after day I stopped wanting to show up. Easy work but very boring class if he wasn't coming over his desk screaming. Insane.

Jim Place obviously isn't for everybody. He's a tad bit abrasive and his comments towards students can be less than endearing at times, but he's smart and funny as hell. Will definitely be a fun class for you if you actually do what you're supposed to do (i.e., avoid getting yelled at). He's very helpful when it comes to questions on essays.

Jim Place is an overall amazing professor. He wants his students to do well and is very fair with his grading. Obviously.. some people won't understand his humor and will find him insulting BUT that's just his way of teaching/him in general. He's inspirational with the amount of traveling and stories he has told us. I would DEFINITELY recommend.

The best teacher ever he speaks his mind but it's what we all need even if it comes off a little rude but if you can't handle the heat get the hell out the kitchen it is impossible to fail his class he would give you extra help if you need it and like he always say is what you can control you must control !

Professor Place is the MAN! Granted he ha a foul mouth, but still he is funny. He definitely made class interesting. His teachings were incredibly helpful. I still use his format for writing papers and am pulling off A's. Highly recommend taking his class. If you have a problem with him go talk to him about it. He'll listen.

If you didn't like him then it is 90% likely you were beyond lazy or an overall rude person. He is old-school… Show up on time, don't use your cell, don't sleep. He is VERY structured with papers. Do NOT be creative, just do what he says and you will get an A. You can redo all papers too until you are happy with the grade. He's a funny guy too.

One of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. If you EVER need help, go to his office; he will pull out your paper and walk you through it. Helps with admissions essays and essays for other classes. Also, the man is freakin' hilarious and truly an inspirational person. If you don't have Place for 104, you're missing out.

Best teacher I have ever had. He will go out of his way to do anything for a student. He gives you more than one chance to correct a paper. Key is to LISTEN to his directions and you will have no problem on a paper. He is a role model and absolutely hilarious! Take advantaged of his office hours if you need help, he has no problem helping!

You only have to write 4 papers in this class. However, you can rewrite every paper over until you get a B. Gives excellent feedback. He shows you ways to make writing research papers a breeze. Not kidding. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!

If you come to class, listen, and do the work you will pass. Your text book will help you when you are writing papers.

I took 104 with him and he was great! He's a great guy who wants you to succeed. Was having a rough semester in what turned out to be the wrong field for me,he helped me out whenever I needed it! UNLIMITED rewrites of essays and go to him after class if you need help, very understanding and helps you write great research papers. Highly recommended!

I am currently taking his English 104 class and I love it! He requires 4 papers throughout the semester, and as long as you bring them on time you'll be good. He gives a chance to correct the essay, and writes awesome feedback so that is easy A. He taught me so much about writing research papers. And his lectures are hilarious!

Place will not let you get less than an A in his class. You literally will not leave the class at the end of the semester without an A. The only way you can't get an A is if you simply do not do the work. He is also hilarious and a very nice guy. I wouldn't take English with any other professor

James Place is honestly one of the best teachers that I have ever had. He taught me how to write research papers and I've used his method in many other classes throughout my college career and even after. He is funny and helpful. He gives amazing feedback and understands that not everybody knows how to write. Highly recommend taking his class!

Absolutely my favorite professor :) he really cares about his students and though he can come off as a hard ass he is highly intelligent and very respected among students, also feared by some other faculty he will go to all lengths for his students. All you have to do is ask.

Using what I learned from him I can literally write a 5 page paper in a matter of hours, and it will be structurally sound. I loved his class. Amazing professor. Took his English class over the summer after failing English 104 during the semester. He takes class serious & doesn't play around but he makes also makes it fun. Learned more in 5 weeks with him than I ever imagined. Hilarious, old-school type of guy who is always willing to help. He lets you rewrite papers until you get an A which is also a plus!
