Good teacher, lots of in class discutions. Really like to teach and is good at it.
His classes consist of lots of discussion and then you write about it. He makes the class fun and enjoyable and is well worth your time. One of my all time favorite teachers!
Schrantz is by far one of the best professors I've EVER had. He's enthusiastic and charismatic in the way he presents the material. His classes involve a lot of reading on your own, then class discussion, and take-home essay tests. Take him for SOMEthing. You won't be sorry.

He sucks! He's beligerant...biased and always has something cynical and sarcastic to say...the only good thing about his class is just showing up and getting your easy A since he's practially a big **** anyway...if you want an A take his class...otherwise he'll throw things at you...
Great guy, really easy. Ive been to class 3 times and I have a 95 average! What a blow off class, if your afraid to take composition 2 take it with him. This class is easier then finding the town ****.
He's the best teacher I've ever had!
Really easy going guy, didnt do anything in the class and made an "A"
I'm really surprised at the previous comments. This is my worst class in the history of TCC. Please don't take this class outside the regular semesters so that you may make good grades. This class is the least encouraging, look before you leap.
Just laught at his jokes and you got an A!!!! He he naw overall his a great teacher SERIOUSLY but his jokes can be korny, i guess that can be entertaining at times.
This is the best class I've had. I'm taking this class in the morning but he is an awesome professor who keeps me awake and interested. he's a laid back kind of guy but he really explains things so that we can understand it. Just attend class and write the papers and you will do well.
Great teacher, keeps the class lively. If you can't take a joke, or are easily offended take someone else. Otherwise, sign up, enjoy the ride. Has a real thinking outside the box style.
He is the funniest teacher I have ever had! Great class, very understanding, and interesting! If you like an upbeat and fun teacher choose him.
i was told he was "mr eassy". had him for brit lit and think he is the biggest ****. he thinks he is smart and tries to show it off. it is not his fault the reading are boring but the essay questions he gives you are very hard. he gives you a week time to do it but it really does take you a few days to have it completed. i will not take him again
great
Would be a shame to miss out on this professor.
Goos teacher, very helpful and clear about assignments and also has extra credit avaliable!! Very nice!
Mr. Schrantz rocks!!! I missed at least 40% of my classes this semester and he still let me hand in all of my work (most of it way late)My teacher kept me going when I wanted to quit. This guy will do anything he can for his students and is extremely funny We wrote about 10 out of class essays this semester, but our FINAL is three gramatically corr
I really did not enjoy this teacher's teaching ablilities.
If you are good at writting essays, take him. Just turn in your essays in time and you can skip class as many as you want.Remember, to make the best essay for the first time because his grade will be bouncing around the first one.Anyway, he is funny and know to make you laugh...
If you are afraid to take Comp 2, take Dr. Schrantz. He is one of the best English professors at TCC! He is hilarious, understanding, clear, and extremely helpful. You will write only 4 essays (One being the research paper) and take 2 vocab tests. He does not give you all the busy work that most English professors give and isn't a nit picky grader.
Give him a hot pepper! *laugh* Anyways this professor goes about as if he knows everything because he does. I would advise you to attend classes just to guarantee your success, trust me late work isn't something you love if you want a complete A+
He makes class interesting with his quirky sense of humor. Schrantz is incredibly helpful, should you have questions and gives effective explanations of what is required.
Dr.Schrantz is a great teacher and made the British Lit. interesting. If you have to take any English at TCC, take him. He grades fairly and if you put any effort into the class, you can make an A with no problems. He know a lot about the subject, and makes class fun and entertaining.
He's a humorous teacher I've ever had. He's cute though. But he's very picky and hard on grading. If you're not good in writing,do not take this class. But if you like the fun, easy atmosphere, just take it.For second language student, not recommended cause you can't get A!
After I'd decided to major in English, I took as many of Schrantz's classes as I could fit in my schedule. He was informed, articulate and interesting.
He is a GREAT teacher!! You do have to attend class. He is fair on grading but he will work with you. I will follow him over to the trinity campus to take him for comp.II AWSOME AWSOME teacher!!!
hes a ok teacher, can be kinda strange but funny id recommend his class if you want to be laid back. he gives you massive amount of time to complete papers but grades really hard so its kind of bitter sweet but all in all hes pretty cool
Such a passionate teacher. I love his lectures. He is fair and grades easily as long as you try your best. If you want to enjoy taking ENG1301 take Schrantz!
Awesome teacher, no textbook required really all you need to know is learned in class. He is funny and interesting to listen to, you will look forward to going to class. One of the best I've had. You will mostly write small papers and class participation :)
Prof Schrantz is awesome. I hate reading poetry and all that stuff but he made it very interesting and fun. He has a dirty mind sometimes and points out how the poetry could be seen from a sexual standpoint.. but it's just really funny.. and...weird...sometimes. overall really cool teacher who knows EVERYTHING. take him. he's interesting.
Awesome and interesting teacher! Took him during the primaries and talked about the Clinton's a lot which was kind of fun and interesting. He also varies the assignments and his experience in journalism/advertising really shines through! Attendance is mandatory but he keeps things interesting and challenges personal expectations of writing.
He was a grate teacher. You really have to like to write. He can be picky, but he will tell you what his pet peves are. He will give you as much help as you need even during his lunch hour. His wife also teaches there and she eats with him and she dose not mind helping you too.
Very good teacher. Funny and cool.
schrantz is a good teacher. easy, funny, makes poetry interesting, which i didnt think could be done. I would def recomend him. You will enjoy his class for sure
Mrs Schrantz is really nice but kinda weird at times. He has this thing with pulling his hair often. Dont let that bother you. Be prepard to for essay central. Major and minors. Forget the book. Only opened it twice. I would recommend Jim for a class.
Dr. Schrantz is a great professor. He can be a bit eccentric at times, but that's just him. He is very intelligent, and he makes you work to be at your intellectual best as well. I would love to take another class from him!
BEST PROFESSOR. VERY FUNNY. REALLY CLEAR ON WHAT HE WANTS.
VERY FUNNY. BEST PROFESSOR. REALLY CLEAR ON WHAT HE WANTS.
Aside from his obvious liberal point of view on politics, I liked Dr. Schrantz's class. He grades fair and points out your weaknesses. On the Major essays, he lets you choose the topic, which makes it so much easier. If you show up, turn in your essays on time, there's no way you can fail.
great teacher would highly reccomend him he really works with you
The best professor of all time, period. Not only did he improve my writing and a host of other college oriented skills, he had a profound influence on my career choice. He is willing to help you with anything. Highest possible recommendation.
I got an easy A in this class (I think I had a 99?). The great thing was how much he insisted that I was intelligent and just encouraged me to keep trying my best to continue getting top scores in all my classes. I don't think any other of my professors ever complimented me on my grades, so I really appreciated his kind words.
Made World Literature very interesting! I learned a lot of things from this class. I wish I would have taken him for comp1 and comp 2. Recomended
Dr. Schrantz is a wonderful professor, he is very knowledgeable, and you can tell he really loves what he teaches, and that in turn makes students care more. He makes learning fun, he is witty, and handsome. Take this class, you won't regret it. :)
It's apparent that Schrantz loves his work/students. You'll never be bored. Bring your text book every day and don't blow off the reading questions too often - they're worth 5 points a piece but they add up and can make the difference at the end. Class is mandatory to do well on tests - the readings are complex and we discuss in detail in class.
Prof. Schrantz is an amazing person! He loves what he does and it shows, and you will never be bored. He is not monotone and always lively. You wont regret having him.
I have really enjoyed Dr.Schrantz during my summer Brit Lit class. He is so good about going over the things we read and putting them in terms we can understand. His tests are easy and he is pretty laid back.I appreciate poetry more now than I ever did before and I have Dr. Schrantz to thank for that.
Loved his class! Easy class, talks most of the time :) no test!!
great proffesor, keeps discussions freash and interesting and makes it so actually look foward to his class
Dr. Schrantz is obviously studied, yet his teaching skills are no good. He's not clear at all, takes a very long time to grade papers, not to mentions grades really hard. In class discussions are useless, his notes are vague and not helpful at all towards the tests. I would not take again.
He is a very fun professor, his assignments are strait forward and the class is always fun. The assignments will challenge you but not overwhelm you.
Dr. Schrantz was by far the best professor I ever had. I took 5 or 6 of his classes. You will get out of what you put into his lessons. If you dig literature then he is a cornucopia of information. If you want to dawdle on your iPhones, waste your time elsewhere. He taught a world lit II and Sociology class based upon Disney which was fantastic!
Madly brilliant.
Great! This class was very easy. Just do the assignments and make sure you understand the writing assignment. Also his grading is late but if you call him he will contact you back faster then just emailing him.
I worried because English language is not my first language. And I did not have any interest in English poems. But this class was not that difficult even for me. Dr. Schrantz was skillful in his teaching and gentle and helpful to the students. I definitely recommend him to people who need to take Egnlish classes.
Great teacher :D
This class had a S.I. instructor that was absolutely amazing. The class wasn't easy but the opportunity to have a A in the class was definitely achievable. Professor Schrantz is awesome. I wish I wouldn't of bought the book though, never used it once and still did great.
Professor Schrantz is a funny guy. He has a lot to say in class about topics. Attend class or you may miss an assignment or paper due. Do your assignments, listen, go to class and you should be fine. Text book was used once.
Schrantz's English 2 class was an easy, typical english class. He explains everything very well and is very helpful. There are no tests, just papers. The papers aren't too long and the prompts are clear-cut. If you go to class and participate you'll do well. He won't respond to emails at all so get to know your classmates.
Interesting lectures coupled with class discussion made an engaging course. He's helpful, you just have ask during class. He won't respond to emails so don't expect a reply ever. It was a typical easy english course. He's a cool guy though.
I loved his class! His lectures are enjoyable and extremely laid back. He may not be the best at responding to emails, but if you approach him after/before class he will spend as much time as needed to make sure any confusion is cleared and you succeed. Textbook is not necessary. I will definitely be taking his class again!
I got an A in the class and I hate english w passion. All essays submitted thru turnitin online. Assignments were all discussion boards. No tests in class. I took half online half lecture only one day a week. Everything was usually due saturdays 11:30. Over all very easy class and you will pass. NEVER read or used textbook once.
Professor Schrantz is a hoot and a half. He is funny, understanding, and kind. Make no mistake though, if you do not show up for class you'll more than likely miss a deadline because he is on " SCHRANTZ TIME", meaning he's not organized or likely to be on time or remind you of a deadline through email (etc). But easy grader and amazing guy
Overall he is a good professor. I thought his letters were pointless and old information. He loved my papers and I received an A in the class. But I do know people who failed his class. He grades fairly. If you go to the writing center he gives extra credit. There are 2 online quizzes (super easy!!!). I would recommend him.
I loved Dr. Schrantz!! He's a really great professor. He is very knowledgable and ready to share it. He gives very interesting lectures that, at the time, don't really make sense, but they all come in full circle at the end. He's willing to help you with whatever you need. Don't buy the book.
Dr. Schrantz is very passionate about his job. He's very knowledgeable as well, so if you pay attention you can learn a lot. He's willing to help his students if they ask as well. He is a little tough when it comes to grading, but if you do the assignment the way he asks you to, and stay on top of your assignments, you will be fine.
Cool dude
Sometimes I felt there was no point as to what the class was about. His class isn't always clear and usually gets sidetracked. The class itself is pretty easy, there's only a couple essays which he gives you usually about two weeks to do.
I took his online class. Major assignment dates and what story to write about is not usually clear. It is very hard to get an e-mail response from this professor. He does not interact at all with the online class. He seems incredibly knowledgable and most likely a great professor in class but I do not recommend taking the class online.
Great teacher, long lectures that would trail off else where(off topic) often. Lot's of essays, but plenty of time to complete.
DO NOT TAKE ONLINE. very unclear instruction. takes days to respond to email. Made decent grades on most papers then received a 50 on a paper and there was no feedback as to why. Doesn't put grades in until the end of the semester.
Not for online at least. The class is layed out clear and the stories are ok but he is not responsive and doesnt give much info about why you get the grades you do on your essay.
Had him for Brit Lit 1 and 2. A very astute professor who knows how to make the material interesting. Although Dr. S has the tendency to get off topic, his tests are typically straightforward if you do the review. Lets you know the essay questions ahead of time. Very sweet man who is worth getting to know; passionate about the Romantics.
He's very entertaining, open minded and funny. You really have to listen to actually learn his tips and tricks. Always interacts with students and loves to give feedback. RENT his textbooks or share with someone, he rarely uses it. His grading is pretty easy, very late on posting grades. Talks a lot, rarely uses the internet. Very passionate.
Hes awesome
All essays turned in, none had feedback and were not 100%. I wish I would have had feedback to know what I needed to work on for the next essay to improve.
He is so funny and smart!
I took professor Schrantz for English 1301 and honestly he's the best professor I've had. He cares about yours grade but make sure you show up to class because there is class assignments that aren't all that difficult. I would definitely take his class again. Yeah there is essays that you have to complete but the topics are amazing.
I had Mr. Scrantz for online ENGL 1301 over the summer. His lessons are very organized, you can complete the assignments ahead of time. He responds fast to emails and is willing to work with you if you're having trouble. Each lesson is typically a 250-300 word response, a couple of papers in between. He gives extended time for essays. Very easy A!
This professor is by far the easiest person to take an online class with. He is very responsive and grades really good and always provides good feedback.
I took this class online for the summer. Hes a nice guy however, DO NOT take his class online. The material is confusing. His syllabus changes leaving you with no knowledge of what is going on. No extra credit. Also, the professor was absent from his office for a week during the month long class-so communication is spotty.
Super great guy. Really cares about his students. Lectures are always interesting, fall off topic sometimes but not til lecture is complete. You won't want to miss class, you will have to read, online vocab tests, no tests just papers due every 3-4 weeks.
This is a very goofy and laid back professor, laughs at his own jokes type guy. He doesn't demand much out of his students. He has a weird way of lecturing-quiet, full of pauses and jokes and references to things. We watched a lot of youtube videos and wrote quite a few papers, which he is moderately tough on grading.
Professor Schrantz is a great professor. He is an easy grader, but there is some work, especially during the summer semester. Would recommend to anyone talking online English 1302.
Very nice and simple guy.
He is awesome!
He gets off topic so much and you never understand whats going on. Then at the end of class he'll hit you with "remember your paper is due this sat" and half the class is there confused like "what paper?!!?" Wouldn't know how he grades because i dropped this class.
He lectures, but it's not really boring and he doesn't really care if you're paying attention or not, as long as you're quiet. Write the paper in the format he wants and turn it in online before midnight. Pretty easy class. Doesn't really say why you get some points off the essays, though.
He is the best professor I've ever had! Definitely recommend him if you want to have a good semester!
Pretty easy professor. He talks a lot about other things not very relevant to the class. Most of the time is for working on essays, he lectures a little about what he wants for the essay. All essays are due online.
Hes a very sweet teacher if you need anything just talk to him . I took his class during the summer so it is a little more intense. You basically go to class almost every say & you have essays due every week. It is English so just do the work & youll pass .
Easy A. He does take a bit to grade your work but I took him for a summer course. Uses the textbook. Has 3 essays and about 15 discussions that include 250-300 words. Not the easiest to get in touch with. Would recommend if taking online. Clear syllabus and great feedback.
he keeps you busy. his class was always entertaining and hes pretty left leaning... show up so you can understand what he wants because hes slow to respond to emails. he gives you a chance to review and edit your work with great feedback so you can get a good grade. grades work pretty quickly. automatic ZERO if turnitin is more than 15%. didnt know
He is really funny
The worst professor EVER! He gets off topic so much during his lectures. His assignments aren't clear. You can forget about him responding to your emails, he's very hard to contact outside of class. I don't know what grade I received, because I dropped his class!
He's funny and entertaining yet focuses on the students' success. Regarding the 16 week course-- His essays are usually 800-1200 words and 1500-2000 for a research paper. He also will discuss everything thoroughly during class so make sure you're on time. I most definitely would take this class again if I could
He's an excellent Professor that really cares about his students. I enjoyed his lectures. He is really funny! He is happy to help with anything needed. Allows late work up to a week. I took both English Comp 1 and 2 with him. Would take any class he teaches. Just show up to class, do your work and submit it online on time. You will do great!
For me, he was not slow to getting back to me, and he always gave us time to do our assignments in class with him so he can give us immediate feedback on our essays. I wasn't the most confident about my writing, he gave me plenty of reassurance. His assignments to me were clear. Will take comp 2 with him.
he basically failed me for no reason I turned in essays and were given zeros because he felt that it was plagiarized when it was not. Will never take him again!!!!
Took online for the summer II session. Essays are hard due to little to no information regarding grading criteria. Once graded, the professor provides absolutely no feedback or reasoning as to why a certain grade was received. He also NEVER replies to emails, ignoring our whole class when there was an issue regarding essay submission. Dont take
Professor Schrantz, while seemed nice, did not interact very much at all in his online class. He might be great as an "in class" Professor but lacked a sense of awareness online. Essays were not of substantial length requirement, which was great. Grading seemed pretty relaxed, although when receiving less than full credit, didn't offer feedback.
Kind, Humble, and a Great Professor for Composition 2! He gives advice to students and maintains time to grade assignments well! 1 Mini Essay and 3 Big Essays as well (Poetry/Drama/Fiction Analysis Essays) following by discussions and journal entries! Textbooks will be required (if necessary) for reading assignments and notes discussions!!
Kind, Hunble and great professor!! Gives good advice to students and uses time wisely grading; 1 Mini (Story) and 3 Major Essays (Poetry/Fiction/Drama Analysis) followed by discussions/journal entries. Textbook is required (if necessary) for reading assignments and note discussions! Miss Homework? No Pass and no attendance recorded!
Not much to say regarding Professor Schrantz. pretty straight forward and kind man. However, Not much feedback was provided so the class seemed more like just submitting assignments than learning. He was prone to missing emails so you will more than likely have to send a few follow-ups. Other than that, it was a pretty generic online class.
Dr. Schrantz is a very respected instructor. I took his Composition II class and really enjoyed his diverse choice of readings. With that being said, I do wish I would have received more feedback on my submissions.
It was an easy class. Got an A even with two missing assignments
Professor Jim Schrantz is very well organized, I took his class over this fall 2020 semester online due to covid and he gives you an assignment weekly, Do your work and youll pass as easy as it sounds
He was an okay professor. His assignment calendar was confusing and he would not repond to emails unless I sent him multiple stating the same thing which was frustrating. Most of the assignments were fairly easy except for the research paper.
He's a nice guy and very forgiving and understanding with late grades.
Dr. Schrantz is easily one of my favorite English professors. I took him for both comp 1 and 2, and I loved every moment of it. His papers and overall assignments were over interesting topics. It wasnt just busy work, it kept you engaged in what was going on.
I took both ENGL1301 and 1302 w/Prof. Schrantz and I couldnt be happier that I did. If you want a SUPER easy course, then I wouldnt recommend lol. But if you wanna become a MUCH greater writer, and appreciate language and literature more, than take his courses! Just put in SOME effort and hell notice. He is funny, smart, understanding, and kind
Prof. Schrantz's class was great! He's talkative(his talks aren't boring though) so if you like that in a teacher he's the one. Once you start on the essays they keep coming so be ready.
Worst English Class Ever! Run away as fast as you can if your not trying to catch a bad grade! I turned my assignments in time, got help from multiple tutors, and even asked for help from this professor and he still gave me zeros on almost all of my assignments. I definitely will not take his class again.
I loved taking Dr. Schrantz. His class was very fun and majority of it was writing essay's. He would allow us to pick our topics for the essay's and I would 100% take his class again.
He assigns way too many essays and if you get a C or below it will DRAIN your grade. If you want an easy A, don't get him. u have to work for it. being responsible and having discipline is ESSENTIAL. if your lazy you will probably fail his class. he doesn't teach in class, which is why I had trouble in his class. He's a critical grader, so watch ou
He's funny, nice and really smart, but can't teach well to students. He doesn't reply to my emails which is very frustrating. He is a very harsh grader, (he even claims) and doesn't give extra credit. He talks a lot and its usually between him and like 3 students having a convo. He can get off topic. your expected to review hw and stuff on your own
Professor Schrantz is funny and nice. He wants his students to pass. Students must put in work and have discipline to pass his class. He does assign a couple of essays, so stay ahead of the work. he's chill and merciful, He willing to hear you out if u have any questions or concerns. take his class if u wanna learn to be a better writer!!!
Pretty cool and laid back at times. Tough grader, but if you're committed and motivated you should be fine. Lots of essays, which I dreaded at times, but he'd let you pick the topic with a few rules. Overall, lecture wasn't so bad, and he was kind of funny. He's a nice professor.
I had retaken his class twice and both times have been easy. He has about 1 essays due every month, gives you a clear template on how to format, all you have to do is conduct your own ideas/research. DO NOT procrastinate on the essays. You also have grammar tests with *unlimited* retakes, no deadlines. Easy A if dedicated.
I had him for the summer and it was pretty good. His lectures are very engaging and doesn't make them boring. There are a couple essays but gives clear instructions on what he wants. As for the quizzes, it has unlimited attempts. Overall I would recommend him. His class is pretty easy to get a good grade as long as you put effort into your essays.
I'm so glad I chose him for Composition 2! He was nice, funny, and his feedback helped me a lot with my assignments (for anyone wondering, there were about 5 in total). I just wished I could have taken him for my other English classes. :(
Schrantz is a great teacher, I learned a lot from him. He gave great resources and information when working on papers. I felt confident leaving his class to go into other classes and write papers that were well written. Do the work, show up, and ask questions. He is very helpful in explaining anything that doesn't make sense.
Great professor to introduce you into the college work environment. He definitely assigns a ton of essays which are graded with strict grading rubrics, but if you ask for clarification in class on said rubric he will give you a clear explanation on what he expects.
I took Composition II with him this summer and it was the best decision. The assignments are very easy to do and are essay to understand. I learned a lot in this class that was only one month long, I really recommend it.
Prof. Schrantz always kept a smile on his face, and on the student (mine) as well. He had no problem repeating his self for those that missed something, and didn't mind questions. You know how some professors will lecture monotoned all period making things very boring. Not Prof. Schrants. He was always engaging and supportive.
Took his 5-week summer course, Professor is very nice! Of course get ready to do essays, for a composition II class it was easy, although he is a tough grader but what do you expect for an English course, just don't procrastinate.
He is definitely the best English professor I've had thus far. Highly recommend!!!
Professor Schrantz keeps his class engaging with interesting essay topics. While the workload is heavy, using resources like ChatGPT and unstuckstudy can help manage the essays. If you put in the effort, you'll learn a lot and likely get a solid grade.
Great professor, I would retake this class. Try not to procrastinate in his class, it is easy to get behind, which is why I failed, but nonetheless he is understanding and gives good feedback on essays.
Dr. Jim Schrantz is a tough grader. He does have a caring side, and most of his classes are of being asked questions and going off of what you answered. He does explain some topics that you are to know. Being a English class, expect a lot of writing and analysis' of creative works. Other than that, he is a good professor.
Professor Schrantz talks fast and has a strong accent, but he'll slow down if you ask respectfully. He gives lots of essays and homework, and he's strict about not using AI. The class is interesting, and he's a good teacher, just be ready to work hard. Don't buy the book for his class, all the lectures and readings are found online.
I took his summer course in person, and I learned a lot. People complain that there is a lot of hw... well duhhh it's a 5 week summer course. I could handle an essay due every week (2-3 pages max, doubles spaced)
Took Schrantz for a summer class, would definitely recommend him. The rubric states that we needed a textbook but everything we needed was posted online so don't buy it! Helped out when needed. Ngl he would just rant about off topic things but who cares when he was wasting class time. Essays every friday 800-1200 words, but pretty easy.
