I wish all my instructors were as lively as Jim Startin. Texas Politics is a dry, dull subject, but in Startin's class it almost seems like a stand-up comedy special. Very fair tests, very clear material. Gotta love it.

He was an awesome teacher. He gave you info., said this is what is on the test, you tested made an A..and that was that. Excellent easy A. Also offers extra credit. There is no reason for someone not to make an A.

Professor Startin is the best teacher I have had. He is very fair with everything...he doesn't push any political views on you like a lot of Political Science professors....overall an AWESOME professor. I highly recommend him to anyone. The class is very easy and he makes it interesting to learn.

LOVED this professor. Classes are entertaining, study guides and definitions are provided. As for a conservative Republican-that's not true. He pokes fun at both sides, thinks John Kerry is a "flip flopper" and that Bush is "dumber than a doornail". Really silly, but informed. Take him!

He talks fast, but he's to the point, and will let you know what to expect on the tests. As long as you "semi" listen, you'll do fine. He's really laid back and jokes around which takes off tension from the class.

He is a really good professor it's just that he goes at a really fast pase...when he's lecturing but it's worth it.

Really entertaining guy, keeps the class's attention, and gives plenty of examples for stuff; makes everything very clear and easy to understand. Always knockin on George Bush, it's great!

He likes to say he's a conservative, which is true when compared to nearly every other professor, but he isn't. Either way, he's pretty funny some times, and otherwise, INCREDIBLY easy. You have to purposefully TRY to fail this class to do so.

STARTIN IS THE BEST PROF EVER!!!! He can talk really fast sometimes but most of what he says in on WebCT. He repeat the info so much that it sticks with you. I love his class soooo much that I am taking him agian next sem. for american politics. I ABSOLUTLY recommend him!!!!!!

had him for american polotics too. he is by far on of the best teachers i've had. he made me have an interest in polotics and i really enjoyed his classes. he puts all his notes online and you can get the rest in class. you could probably get by without buying the book if you wanted. GREAT TEACHER

One of the best teachers that UTSA has. Whatever they pay him, isn't enough. He is short and concise on what the tests are going to be over. He will tell you that you need to study this or that to pass the class. If you go to class, take good notes, you will get an easy A. He also makes you laugh everynow and again, so you don't get bored.

i loved this class. startin made me love politics more than i already did before. he made it interesting and didnt play tricks with his tests. he gave you the concepts and expected you to know them. simple and to the point. he also takes care in making sure that we leave with the basic knowledge that every texan should know about politics.

Funny guy, makes politics a little more interesting. Can babble on about the same thing for long periods of time during lectures. Only 4 tests and a final. Tests are easy if you study the key terms and reviews that are posted on webct.

I LOVE STARTIN!!!! He is my fav. prof. of all time!!! There are only 3 test and a final, but you can get up to 10 extra credit points! Pol is not my stronges subject, but I go to every lecture and study and I am making a B. I took him for both TX and AM Pol. and I would take him again if I could!

loved Startin! He was so funny, and goes off on these talks and always says "nice talk startin", very entertaining. I would recommend going to class just because he'll tell you exactly whats on the test, and usually give you outlines. I never even looked at the book though.

Startin is a good prof. He is pretty specific as to what's on the exams. Just listen to the points he stresses over and over again and you'll make an A. I never really had an interest in politics until I took him.

Be prepared to laugh, he is very funny! Startin uses WebCT, so you can get most of what he covers in class. If you go to class, easy A!

I loved this class. Startin was so interesting and funny. He made going to class an awesome and wonderful experience. Going to SI was very helpful and printing the notes from WEB-CT really helped too on exams.

Startin is my favorite professor! He's a great and funny guy! His class is fairly easy; most of his exam questions come directly from his lecture and notes. There are 3 exams, some extra credit, and 1 final. I'm actually not a very political person and I earned an A in the class!

Excellent teacher. All his test questions come straight from his lectures! All you have to do is show up and you're pretty much garunteed an A or B. One of my favorate teachers here at UTSA.

ez, fun, lively, gives you all the info 4 the 1st test. the 2nd & 3rd test r a little harder the final exam is comprehensive. take him he is the best pol prof you can get 4 the best grade.

Awesome professor. People don't go to class, but if you do it really does benefit you. He goes over the book, so the book isn't necessary. His exams aren't filled with trick questions. If you study your notes, read the book, and go to class you will get an easy A.

He's a really nice guy and gives the basic information needed for the class. My favorite thing about him is he's not biased for one party or another, very objective. It would be easy to throw in your own 2 cents as a college prof. but he doesn't. No book required, unless you've never taken a US politics/goverment class before.

Definately worth taking. Tests are somewhat tough without any studying, I usually made around an 85(Like I said, without studying at all!!). Class is easy although sometimes tireing. I will be taking Startin for Texas Poli!

Class wasn't too hard, don't really need the book so long as you go to class, and you don't really have to listen to him too much the main thing you need are the papers he puts up on the screen (you just need those and the handouts on webct to study for the test) easy A...he really likes what he talks about to so lectures are kinda interesting.

Probably one of the most memorable college professors you will ever have. He's hillarious. Most of his test seem like they come right off the notes on the overhead. It wouldn't hurt to read the textbook but i don't think its necessary. He absolutely loves Boerne, Texas because thats where he's from.

Test are easy, he asks every simple question and doesn't try to make it hard on the student. If u go to class often u are graduated a A cuz he tell u what is going to be on the test. He repites alot, which is good cuz what he repites is 100% on the test. I didn't go to class much but when ever i did i found him interesting/ fun at time.

If you want an A for texas history take this guy. I never once opened up my text book, pretty much everything on his test is general knowledge or what he says in class. Good fun teacher and class.

I only attended six classes the whole year and they included the first day and test days plus a few random days. You have three tests and he gives you extra credit for a maximum of 10 points on a test. He is pretty interesting at times for the days that I attended. I got a low B with another professor in politics but this guy is by far the easiest.

I came into this class hoping for the best, since I have never liked politics...I have had NO trouble with his class....you dont need to attend, but i found that it makes it easier since he tells you the answers to test questions in his lectures!

Very sarcastic about politicians, very knowledgable, study review sheets and notes. Tests can be tricky because his multiple choice may say "select all that apply". During class he will say give some answers to test questions, so it's beneficial to attend.

Fantastic Professor. Teaches so you can understand. Show up and take notes. He tells you what you need to know. Loves to talk politics so feel free to approach and speak your mind but beware! He will do the same! :) Highly recommended. Very easy class and he is totally approachable. His class fills fast with 350 students!

He started off easy but somebody got caught taking pictures of your test so he made the test really hard. I have an average of C right now but hoping to make up for it in attendance points and final. The one thing I like about him though is he is very balanced about left and right sides. Other teachers i've taken are very left sided.

I'm not sure why he's getting a bad rap all the sudden online. His class isn't all that bad, and the second test had the issue, the third test was much easier. Granted, the select all that apply questions are BS. He's also right wing biased, but being the liberal guy I am, he didn't bug me. He raised interesting points. He's hard, but a good dude

I thought he was really funny and I loved how he was conservative. I expected better grades on my tests when I took them, but ended up with B's. Overall you don't need the book, just study everything he says in lectures but you HAVE to take notes. I enjoyed his class though! Especially him being a retired Colonel in the Air Force was really cool.

He's a really funny teacher but he talks REALLY fast! His tests are kinda hard so you really have to study the worksheets. Iclicker was a pain in the butt! But if you go to class, do some extra credit, and make sure you study (w/o using online tests), you should make at least and A or B.

Great teacher. He goes pretty fast in lectures so bring a laptop. I go to SI after class in place of really studying and I'm pulling a B in the class. His tests are kind of tricky but you get used to them. Extra credit offered. He's a real funny guy and always keeps lecture interesting.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Professor Startin!! He is such wonderful man! He is hilarious and makes you want to pay attention. I definitely recommend sitting in the front or close to the front because he'll get to know you and that's always a good thing! You need an iclicker and you'll have an easy quiz every class for attendance.

This professor is the GREATEST! He is very interactive and is very willing to help you out if you ask for it. He is quite humorous. Although his lectures are long and wordy, all slide are on BB. His class in only on MW and most classes he let's us out early. Once he let us out 45min early cause he could't find a slide and since! I RECOMMEND HIM!!!!

This Professor is great. He is extremely humorous and makes you want to pay attention to his lectures, which can get quite long. Tests are not too hard, just read and look at the study notes and you should be fine. A relatively easy A, just make sure you go to class because he does take iclicker attendance and gives quizzes.

Don't buy the book! All lectures come from BB. Study material on BB the day before you go to class. Daily quizzes using i-clicker. Attendance helps grade. Offers extra point papers, but I didn't need it. Just study EVERYTHING he posts on BB and you're grand. Book isn't necessary.
