Coolest dude on the planet. Took him for 110 and 111 and learned more about composition and critical thinking from him in 2 semesters compared to that joke of an education I got in high school.

Terrible, confusung and frustrating. I got an A but it was a battle. Seems like a venue for him to promote his own book which is just as confusing as he is. Like many other posters have said if you dont interpret the stories the way he did then you will fail, so leave you opinions on the works at the door

Regarding the comment on 3/11, it is not that students act like it's not a college class. He discourages effort in the class because on the quizzes, instead of letting the students write out a answer to show that they read the story, he gives multiple choice quizzes! Students better interpret the story the same way he does. I also got an A.

He is a very good teacher, but you have to put in a lot of work yourself. If you read his book, everything that he talks about it very clear and easy to understand. If you expect to get by with skimming and sometimes listening/coming to class... doesn't work so well. He is demanding, but in the end, you come out a much better writer.

Get ready for the academic ride of your life, as Dr. Stevens doesn?t just teach English, he reinvents it. Taking this class was vague and confusing, almost like playing a guessing game with an old man who is exponentially losing his marbles. Although a great and intelligent guy, Dr. Stevens is rather ambiguous in what he requires from students and

Smart, very sweet professor. A little bit of a scatterbrain, sure. He is opinionated about the stories, because he's had much more time to analyze them, not to be spiteful!

He is a great professor. He is not easy but he will help you the whole way and loves to help and put his own extra effort in. The class is hard but it actually teaches you and if you love literature you will choose this class. The book he uses is one he wrote himself with wonderful literary tools. I got a B but i still highly enjoyed the class.

A confusing class at times, but go to his office hours and talk to him about it and you will get an A.

Man...I had no idea what the heck this guy was talking about, or what he wanted from us...however...I tried my best to make sense of what he was asking from us. I ended up with a B in the class. I liked his rant about 'RapeMyProfessor.com'

Extremely nice guy, but old age seems to be getting to him a bit. Definitely learned plenty this semester, but his grading is extremely vague, and incomprehensible, and there is constant misunderstanding between him and the entire class.

I do not recommend him at all!! I think that it is time for him to retire because his age is definitely affecting his performance as a professor. He forgets things quickly, contradicts himself and seems lost at time. He will say that you are wrong and give you a low grade even when you are correct!

Mr. Stevens is an awesome old guy! He does seem to be losing his mind though. He always showed up 15 mins late, forgot what he was talking about in the middle of class He always us asked "what class is this?" Hes a nice guy and i learned more about life than ENG in his class Read the short stories and ull be fine, some of them are actualyprettycool

His class can be really confusing and unclear but at the end of the day he's a really easy grader. I don't think he even looks at the grades at the end of the semester, he just gives A's to people with good attendance and kids that have shown improvement. He's a really nice guy, just very unorganized.

Jim is a cool guy. As a teacher, very unorganized. If you can deal with a lack of clarity, and "figuring things out" on your own then you will do fine. He means the best for all his students to succeed, and the ones who show interest in bettering themselves are the ones who did well in my class. You will get out of what you put into his class.

Good teacher, not too clear. A little rough on essay's and on students.
