Very fun class, we watched movies we would be interested in. The assignments were fair, and pretty simple. Only 3 tests. Overall understanding and fun teacher

Fun class, there isn't really alot to learn about some of these movies. Vocab quizes are easy. Professor has good life experience. He is a great instructor. The man loves his Star Wars ... which is actually very good for the class.

Good teacher, had a way of making you feel comfortable talking in front of a group or 25 peers. Very laid back, but not necessarily easy. Highly recommended.

Jim Stockwell is a really nice guy, but not the best teacher. Intro to Film was a lot of fun, but I didn't really learn anything at all. Also, he has extremely bad grammar that made the some of test questions incomprehensible.

Jim is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I have taken 2 classes with him. He is funny, easy going and very helpful. It makes everything very smooth and interesting. As long as you try you'll do good. I wish he taught more classes because I would definitely take them!! I HIGHLY recommend taking class with him!!

This is my first class at MCC but JIM is the BEST!! He's a great teacher in everyway!! As long as you show up for class and listen to what he has to say you will do great in his class!! He's a very down to earth man with tons of life experince! If you get a chance take a class or two with him you will not regret it!

Jim is fun. He was interested in getting to know the class. Lectures were a bit dry and sometimes confusing, but he was fairly easygoing on papers. Nothing unreasonable or terribly difficult.

Jim is a great teacher. He is fun and tried to engage the audience, which is hard to do when 90% of the class is sleeping. Lots of writing, but not hard to do. Likes to hear your opinion as long as you can support it. Loved the class, learned a lot.

Jim is a wonderful teacher. It was fun taking a class where the teacher loves what he does. I learned to have a deeper appreciation of film making. I would definitely suggest this class to everyone.

Great teacher for film. It's helps with his past work experience with movies and tv shows. Quizzes are directly from the notes and so are the tests. SO ALWAYS BE SURE TO TAKE NOTES.

Jim is a great teacher. You get to watch great movies in class. His quizzes and tests are strictly from his lectures, that are at an easy pace to take notes on. Study his notes and you can get an A. The book is rarely used if you do not want to buy it use it in the library.. Take his class!

Took Intro to Film in the summer, and as a 3 hour class 2 nights a week, I can fully say he made it enjoyable. We watched various likeable movies like Star Wars, and his knowledge for everything was very good. He was able to relate every movie we watched to something. Highly recommend taking Stockwell. Huge Cubs fan too, which was a plus.

Jim is an awesome teacher. he starts each class with news updates from around the world, and ends each class with a cheesy joke. he knows how to keep the class interesting and fun. i highly recommend this guy!!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Jim as a teacher. I NEVER fail classes, and I failed film with the other film teacher, Derchied, I turned a F to an A. All you have to do is show up to class and watch a movie and humor him a bit (laugh at his jokes). I never even opened my book or studied and got an A. TAKE THIS TEACHER! YOU WILL NO REGRET IT!

This was my favorite class! Jim Stockwell is a great instructor! By the end of the first day of class he knew everyone's names as we walked out, I was very Impressed. He always starts off class with a few news stories and always end class with a joke. Just an over all great class!

Had Stockwell for intro to broadcasting. It was a really fun class and the newscast was fun. His assignments aren't that hard, but the only 3 quiz/tests are a bit hard. That's why i received a B and not an A.

This was a great course! Looked forward to it each week. Lectures are interesting and to the point! Watched a lot of movies I never would have considered otherwise, but they were all really good. Would be hard not to get an A.

Stockwell is a great teacher, and JRN180 is the BEST way to satisfy a fine arts credit for an associates degree at MCC. Classes consist of lectures or movies. Movies are generally pretty good (except a few for my tastes). Always has weird stories and jokes to tell.

Jim is an excellent guy and a great teacher. He values each and every one of his students and learned all of their names by the end of the first day. As long as you show you care and give him what he asks, you won't be sorry. Glad I took his class!

Mr. Stockwell Was the best teacher I have ever had. You can tell he loves what he teaches. He is so helpful even in other subjects. He is the teacher that will help you with any and everything. I wish I could have him as my teacher for every class.

Absolutely loved Mr. Stockwell! Such a nice friendly guy who is passionate about what he teaches. Papers are all opinion papers that he grades only on mechanical errors. It's hard to enjoy a three hour night class but I looked forward to his class every week!:)

Awesome teacher easy class quiz once a week (Online), 3 small papers and 1 big paper, and a midterm and final. He lectures what is on the test so it is crucial to be in lecture. If you study your notes you will get an A on the midterm and final. Watched several movies throughout the semester. Very easy and laid back class. All in all great.

Mr. Stockwell is one of my favorite teachers at MCC :) He's super friendly, hilarious and his classes are awesome - you do is watch a couple of movies, write a few review papers, and do one big film paper in the end. Great guy to talk movies with. Definitely recommend :)

Stockwell was awesome! I took his Wintersession (Winter intersession) class that went M-F and it was amazing. It's better to take it in the intersession bc you have less papers according to him. But MAN did this man make me appreciate film. He also was there for me when my financial aid crapped out and he helped me fix it! He's a good guy.

I took Speech 151 and he is the best speech professor, because I hated talking in front of people and his enthusiasm helped me come out of my shell. My classmates liked him.

I took Intro to Film with Mr. Stockwell and it was a great class. If you need a humanities gen ed class this is probably the best one. The films he chose for us to watch were great, and he genuinely enjoys talking about movies. Expect lots of bad jokes too.

He knows what he's talking about & is very passionate about filmography. He makes the class enjoyable & intriguing.

Intro to Film with Professor Stockwell is without a doubt the easiest class I have ever taken. I highly recommend any who needs a Fine Arts credit to take his class. In summation, you pretty much watch movies and write about them, take easy quizzes and tests. You won't regret joining his class. As an added bonus he tells funny jokes.

His lectures are kinda long because he repeats everything and does it orally not on a powerpoint. You get used to it, and his "jokes." Just show up, watch the movies, and do the assignments and you'll be fine. The tests are off of the notes, if you study before the test you should do fine.

You is always reachable for anything. If you want to major in something in hi field he will make sure you gain experience. Even after you leave class he will remember your name and say hi to you in the halls. Just a great guy and guy over. It is an easy class overall. Who doesn't like watching movies?!

Super nice guy, class is very easy to follow and not stressful. notes are whats on the quizzes so they're easy to study for. he also tells some really good jokes.

Jim is a great guy with some really cool dad jokes. The class was super easy (blow off class) all you have to do is stay awake for the lecture and you'll be just fine. Plus you get to watch hella movies

He is a wonderful professor. Had him for Film Class and was absolutely amazing. Easy grader and very understanding with absences (I had to be gone for like, half a semester due to illness) and he was incredibly understanding. Very accessible outside of class and presents the material clearly and in an entertaining way.

Jim Stockwell is an amazing professor at MCC. Very easy class if you show up and take notes. I took this during the summer for 4 weeks and I wish I took this class with him during the regular semester. He starts and ends class with dad jokes but some are really funny. If you need help, have no fear, Jim is there anytime! Highly recommended.

Jim Stockwell is the best teacher I've had at MCC. Took this class as a blowoff but still learned a lot about how to make films. He makes a lot of dad jokes, and does his best to make the class interesting.

Take intro to film with Stockwell, you'll learn a lot of scrabble words (: He truly understands you have a life besides school and is very accommodating. Everyone needs a break from boring lectures, take a class with Jim to have the best college experience.

Mr. Stockwell was an amazing teacher. He is constantly lightening the mood with cheesy jokes and is always willing to help/emails back very fast. This was a Spring semester and we watched many movies, had easy weekly 5 question quizzes, 1 paper, and 2 tests (midterm/final). Overall highly recommend Jim as a professor. He is hilarious and friendly!

Good teacher always making coney jokes. You get one before class and one before you leave. Great public presenter, doesnt read off powerpoint like most teachers, he actually knows his content. Just wish class didn't take up the whole hour and 20 minutes.

I took JRN180 for Stockwell's film class and he was a great teacher. He has his lectures memorized which is very impressive. He tells a cheesy joke at the beginning and end of every class. Super awesome guy & I will be taking another class with him next semester. 10/10.

I had Jim for a speech and math twofer. He is hilarious and cheesy. He's very sociable in and outside of class, and if you ever need help with anything, he will do whatever he can to help you succeed. He understands that everyone hates public speaking and he has little group activities that really help with writing and presenting your speeches.

Mr. Stockwell is an amazing professor! I was told to take his introduction to film class as one of my humanities classes. Mr. Stockwell is always in a positive mood and gives the best jokes! His papers are very easy and fun to write! His lectures are very easy to understand and fun! I would recommend this class to anyone!

Stockwell really cares about what he teaches and has a talent for public speaking. The class itself is not hard at all (aside from the paper), and who doesn't love watching movies? If you don't like cheesy puns, though, don't take Stockwell.

Jim's a real character, and he'll crack jokes at any opportunity. He's like the father I never had. His assignments are easy to understand, and he makes public speaking easy (or at least less intimidating). If you take a class with Jim, you're in for a communal classroom experience.

if youre reading this because you are wondering if you should take a class with him... this is your sign to take his class! he is super understanding, explains the material clearly, and youll get an A as long as you do the assignments!

I love Stockwell! I had him initially for Film, and now have him for Speech. I waited to take speech until now because I wanted to take it with him! He is so kind and fair to students. He is truly inspirational. He is an excellent speaker, so his lectures are always interesting. Class is never boring with Stockwell.

Extremely engaging with his Students. No trick questions, straightforward with the content of the class, great grading, if something is misunderstood he will work with you. Was able to retain information, Would take another one of his classes again and recommend you take this class if you want to have a great and rememberable time.

Stockwell is one of the greatest teachers I have ever had. As a student with learning disabilities, it is difficult for me to keep up with homework. I talked to him about this and he was super understanding and flexible and worked with me to make sure I was comfortable and got things done when I could. There need to be more teachers like him.

He is hilarious! I'm taking a twofer (totally recommend to everyone!) with Jim and Bracch and they work well together! I love his humor, he tells you the cheesiest dad jokes. Overall hes super easy and gives great lectures. Exams are based off of the content you learn, nothing more nothing less.

I took JRN-180 with Jim Stockwell as part of the Reel Minds Twofer, which combines PSY-275 with film. His portion of the class was very easy and required little outside work. He's very passionate about film and makes class fun. Get ready to hear a lot of dad jokes from him.

He is the absolute best professor. Super fun and makes class enjoyable. Grading is super easy and criteria for the class is well organized. Best way to start college is with one of his courses!

Jim Stockwell was such a fun professor. He made it personal and fun to be in class. Even at 8:30 in the morning, lol. Overall the class was fun -- watched a bunch of movies and talked about them and how they show the elements of film making. Super nice guy!

One of the best professors I've ever had! His intro to film class was super fun and I highly recommend taking it. He's a big lecture guy but they're interesting and he always tells funny dad jokes. All you have to do is read the provided textbook he wrote, give your opinions on some papers, and watch movies!

Can't possibly tell you how great of a teacher Mr. Stockwell is. For me, film already is a fun subject, but he made it even better. In that class, it's guaranteed you'll be hearing jokes all the time, especially since he ends EVERY lecture with one, and tells more throughout. Made material easy to understand, gave easy/fun homework. 10/10

Lots of dad jokes, loves to make class fun. Lots of movie watching, lots of talking about the movies. Make class very enjoyable. Extremely friendly and is passionate about his job. Coursework: very light. 12 quizzes, 3 writing assignments, 7 movies watched, one project. Highly recommend! Would take every class of his if I had the time.

He is literally the kindest most understanding professor I have ever had. He really cares for his students and never makes you feel uncomfortable when it comes time to present speeches. He is always available to help you and gives great feedback! I would take every class he taught if I could.

He is the most comforting professor to have. He does not have that many assignments and the class is not overwhelming at all. His dad jokes are everything and I'm glad he starts and ends with them. Had a lot of fun taking his class and watching the movies as well as completing the quests. 100% recommend anyone to take this class.

Jim is an amazing professor and I really enjoyed taking his class! He is a really chill guy and is really open about his students opinions on the films watched. He really gets the basics of film down and his lectures are super easy to follow.

Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is so understanding, and just makes a joke or waves if you walk in a bit late to class. He also always says hi to students in the hallways and greets them by name... even me and I took his class last year! This guy deserves awards, raises, everything.

Public speaking is one of the most common fears, and day one he acknowledges that. He eases you into the bigger speeches by just getting you up there for simple speeches, and he creates such a judgement free environment (the dad jokes help with that). The class days you are giving a speech are mandatory but otherwise, you don't have to attend.

If you struggle with public speaking, I'd really recommend Stockwell. His class is not difficult and he mainly just wants students to be able to get in front and speak about whatever they want! That's also why he allows you to read off your speech paper or doc too! & there are quizzes you can take at your own time too. + He's there for topic ideas!

Jim Stockwell makes jokes here and there, but he doesn't give out much homework. His midterm and final exam are both open notes and openbook. You can reach Jim whenever you wanted to ask him a question outside of class.

He has funny dad jokes but they are a little worth it, so laugh at them! But overall Prof. Stockwell is amazing! Very easy class, and his assignments are pretty easy just pay attention and takes notes. Rules are pretty basic not too heavy on them. Just do the assignments and you will pass the class with a B or higher.

TAKE HIM FOR SPEECH! His classes are always entertaining, he always has dad jokes. He makes the environment so comfortable. He allows you to do your speeches on whatever you want, and you can ALWAYS read off of a paper/laptop. Very supportive. He truly cares about us and really goes above and beyond as a teacher. 100/10! :)

Stockwell is an astonishing professor. I took him for both speech and film in the same semester and he did not disappoint. He's understanding and liniment so be sure to communicate if needed. His dad jokes were pretty funny and the passion he has for teaching is something that truly livens the room. Definitely 100% recommend.

If you want to learn more about Film I'd recommend his Advanced Film class! It was just like his Intro to Film course & even greater. He's understanding and has us review a film we watched in class that ties into his lectures every few weeks in about 1-2 paragraphs. There's also a cool narrative commercial project we do at the end of the semester!

Super easy, fun class. We watched great movies and he told very cheesy, funny jokes. He clearly is passionate about film, and that shows in his great lectures. If you need a "for fun" class, his is great!
