Good teacher. :)
Difficult to follow and he doesnt help u outside of class. He looks down upon those who ask dumb questions
Wants you to understand the work so doesn't put too much emphasis on homework. Still expects you to do it but not every single problem. Tests can be difficult due to wording different then text but is willing to go over any question that you may have.
Tests include questions that you never see anything like prior to the test. Gets fed up with people asking more than a couple of questions. I did not enjoy this class. Look for another math teacher
He is really smart and probably shouldn't be teaching such a low level class. He reminds me of Nathan Lane.If you have a since of humor you can make it through his class easy.
Enjoyed the class
Good teacher. Layed back, funny, and intelligent. Tests are somewhat difficult but homework helps grade. He is very helpful if you ask him questions and seemed sincere about wanting the class to succeed. Requires you to really think in his class. I liked him.
He not very helpful, caring or understanding of students. He is just wants his paycheck and does not care if you pass or not. do not take his class if you want to pass!!!!!!
I agree with the prior post saying there are test questions that you never saw in the homework. Tests are pretty hard, his grading sucks. He will take 8 out of 10 points off of a test question if you make a minor mistake. Failing is always a possibility in this class-find someone else.
Tends to make subject more complex than it needs to be.
I have had Jim for several classes. I continue to seek his help with math homework in current classes. He is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. He his very clear and does his best to make sure EVERYONE understands. His tests can be hard but if you pay attention in class, do your homework and ask questions you will have NO issues.
Horrible teacher. First and only class I've ever dropped. Test very hard, only 3 students passed first test in the whole class.
Excellent teacher. Hard tests. ALWAYS has time to answer questions or clarify points not understood. DO your homework, GO to class, and look to the uncharted territories and you will do well with this professor. Great sense of humor. Excellent lecturer, class goes real fast.
Easy tests(probably because of me knowing the material), very helpful, however, very hard to understand his lectures. I was confused after his class even when i knew the material before it.
Had a crush on him the whole quarter! Nice guy, good teacher. Took a lot of time to make sure the concepts were easy to grasp.
Nice guy, intelligent, but not so good at passing on his knowledge. If you can learn entirely by example, you might do well. I spent most of my time while I was taking this class behind a locked door with an open book, a calculator, and an instant messenger with an engineer on the other end. I'm still not entirely sure how I survived.
Horrible teacher. Impossible to understand. He gets mad if you don't laugh at his corny ass jokes. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS FROM THIS TOOL!
Took his first class can't believe this jerk is still teaching. Avoid. Bad person worse teacher
This man is pure evil. I can't believe he is allowed to teach! He was very loud, makes bad jokes, and thinks he knows everything about math. He told all of his students on the very first day that they were likely to fail his class, because he gets a failure rate of 50%. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! EVER!!! I am VERY serious about this!
Very mixed review. He is very corny. His tests are very very difficult but he does not give you many problems during the test (8-15). Plus on test days he lectures for the first hour on a new topic increasing your test anxiety. We started quarter with 31 students. By final down to 15. He does spend as much time as needed going over hmw problems.
Tests seem hard, but he does seem to know his math. Somewhat of a crush, but I feel he doesn't really care if the students pass or not.
What an evil teacher.
In this class, you have to basically teach yourself math because it's too confusing to listen to the professor. This teacher is pretty good about answering questions but he is VERY difficult to understand. If you have any problems understanding math whatsoever DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Probably the worst teacher I had in my two years at Clark. No point in going to class, the lecture teaches you nothing. I pretty much had to teach myself Trig. His method of teaching is too quick and he didn't spend enough time explaining the material. Would not recommend him at all.
This guy knows his stuff, but once he has his Dr.Pepper you are not going to catch up with him (if you decide to take notes that is). His class isn't that hard if you are able to listen to his explanation and not take notes at the same time. More take home tests than I thought. I learned a lot from the examples in the book :)
Great professor; very quick lectures, helpful with questions. If a person fails this class, it's because they are not putting forth the effort to learn, in my opinion. I recommend to mature students who know how to speak up when they need help.
needs to get another job...he sucks
Teaches like everyone is an Engineering student eventhough the class is meant for non-math majors. He will go over the homework and seems very dedicated to his field. Not much can prepare you for the tests, he writes them himself. Got an "A" in online classes/tutoring, but only got a "C" in his class. Good luck.
This teacher is worthless, I agree that he needs to get another job. I will avoid him at all costs for my next math class.
I took the Trigonometry class. The last 2 chapters in the text were lectured on for an accumulative of around 20 minutes which was not enough time in the least. I felt was quite unfair because all of the material in the last chapters were on the final. I was not thrilled with this teacher.
I took Trig from Jim during the Winter 08 quarter, and thought he was great. You actually have to learn instead of relying on your calculator. There were a few tests where calculators weren't allowed, including the final. He's very patient when answering questions. He obviously loves math.
This guy sucks. He seems to be ok, however his constant noises and looking over your shoulder gives u the creeps! besides making up numbers from his head and not really explaining anything in the book. Had to go online to figure how to do certain work, since he is still stuck in the old book. Stay away from him too many people flunking his class
OMG!I AM NOT A STUPID BUT I FELT SO IN HIS CLASS.Tests ?s r created from his head out of an old book & r typically what you would c in the challenge sectin of the book, but don't.Those r actually easier.NO JOKE!Stay clear of this guy if you want fairness.
Can we say WOW!? This guy can give you the answer to what ever you throw at him, but can you take what he has to give? I thought so until he handed out the tests. 3 hours on one problem and I still got it wrong. What does that say?
what a joke!his tests are out of his head- not even what you study for. I always do A's in math, and did not pass. he likes to fail students.I have heard from many that have with him. I see why! What a waste of my money with him! He does not explain what you ask. He makes weird noises is crazy. evidently he should not teach this level
Does not help you. Does not have fair tests- they are nothing like you learn. You have to go to prior text and internet to figure out what he is talking about. I wasted my money on him. Do not make the same mistake
he might be good at math, but TEACHING math is a different story. He has the personality like of the comic book store owner on the simpsons, but in the classroom, so dont ask questions. best to take him for review only.
Although Jim knows math, he is not great at teaching math. He doesn't go by a syllabus, there is no structure and he is highly disorganized. I am not an idiot, and have always been an A student. I barely skated by with a B- in this class. His tests are a joke! Usually only 6 questions that he makes up in his head. None are like what you study.
He is unorganized. He does not use a syllabus so his class is unpredictable. Tests are short and he picks hard questions. Not many people do well on the tests. Don?t ask a question unless you want to feel stupid. He is smart but he needs to work on his teaching style. He doesn?t seem to care if you pass or fail. Don?t take his class unless you
very hard to understand his teaching.. the textbook was more helpful than his methods.. sense of humor is belittling..
very hard to understand his teaching.. the textbook was more helpful than his methods.. sense of humor is very belittling..
Know what the class before you take it, and don't plan to learn anything during class time unless you can learn at 100 mph. Funny dude, but should be a comedian not a teacher. This class sucked, he did not care of student struggles, and kind of thinks it's funny when you don't get something. most in his class took his class before.(same class)
He is a really hard teacher. Make sure you attend every class and take down everything you can for notes. Don't take any other classes that require a lot of your time while take classes by him. His tests consist of 8 to 10 questions and count for 70% of your grade. He gives insane challenge problems. Take a different teacher if you can.
I cant even understand or comprehend how terrible this teacher is. Don't give him your money. I don't know how he even got his license to teach math. He SETS YOU UP FOR MASSIVE FAILURE.
Great teacher! Tests/quizzes can be hard and sometimes not what is in the book so you have to know your stuff and listen! That's life people. He grades fairly, and tells you what to expect from his class. And he does give credit for doing homework, which is great! He has a sense of humor so that helps. I enjoyed taking this class.
This math is hard enough without having a Professor who makes up tests so that you feel like a total failure. 090 and 095 are too fast unless your already great in Algebra. Otherwise take the 091-093. I had a full class when we started and only about 5 left in the end. Most people were there for the 3rd time and with the same teacher! NOT ME
Eh :/
Great profesor, but if you do not know Math 90 very well you could have some problems. I had A in Math 90 and passed with out problems with a B.
I went from over 100% in Math 90 to a C- in 95. Likes to trick students on test and joke about it. Worst math instructor I've ever had.
This instructor's disregard for the text book makes his tests rather difficult to prepare for. I feel he intentionally and maybe unfairly pushes the envelope of Intermediate Algebra. I completed more than the assigned homework and still struggled. In all fairness, it's a difficult course by any standard. He could ease up on the "trick questions".
I missed 4 out of 5 tests since attendance is not mandatory and I was having medical issues. He let me make them all up. He is my life saver and I could not be more appreciative! He has a very kind heart!
would never take one of his classes again. worst teacher ever.he does not explain anything well, you have to play 20 questions with him to get anything out of the class, and then feel stupid. he grades hard, every question is worth 10 points, so if you miss 1 question you basicly drop a leter grade.dont waste your time, take Chris M, i hear good things
I went from a B+ in Math 89, to an F in 91! This "teacher", if that's what you want to call him, should be teaching a higher math level. He doesn't make you feel good if you don't know the answer. Just the reverse, if you ask a question, you will basically get laughed at! Not an encouraging teacher at all. Now I have to re-take this class! Ugh!
Let's face it, if you don't do your homework, you are not going to pass the class. This is college, so don't expect to be mollycoddled. I thought he was hillarious, and very much enjoyed the class even though I don't like math at all.
He is cruel when it comes to tests and quizzes. Expect to be asked the very hardest questions of the chapter. If you miss a single question on a five question quiz, you fail the quiz. Period.
I think Mr. Wolford was great. He was very helpful. I failed math in HS and received A's in two of his classes. I liked that he would not show math shortcuts until he was sure you knew how to do the math the long way first. It definitely helped my comprehension. His tests are hard but if you show up and do the assignments you should be fine.
By far my favorite math teacher at Clark. He was funny, interesting, and interactive. He took his time not only explaining concepts, but explaining WHY, which many math teachers skip. Be prepared to attend class, seek help when needed, and do extra HW when needed (he doesn't assign much). If you do these things, you'll succeed with him.
Best math teacher ever. Seriously. I hated math before I took his classes, I've now taken 3 classes with him and plan to take more. He is extremely helpful, and straight forward. I would recommend him to anyone.
Awesome teacher. He is helpful, and if you actually PAY ATTENTION you will pass his class easily. He is great at teaching lower level math classes, and prepares you for higher level classes as well. Anyone who fails his class obviously wasn't listening properly. If you ask questions he will work with you until you get it.
good teacher :)
He is hilarious! I share his nerdy sense of humor. Attendance isn't mandatory, but miss a class and you miss a lot of information. Ask questions if you have them, he is great at explaining and working through the problems in manageable steps. I have never understood math as well as I have with him teaching.
Tests are entirely too difficult, doing the homework will not help because he makes up the problems himself and will disregard the book. I would highly reccomend finding another teacher.
Will spend as much time as students ask for helping with math homework. Never embarrasses anyone for not 'getting' it. Pleasant always. Gives us a nice break. Makes no comments if folks need to exit during class.
I took trig with him and his lectures are very confusing. I sometimes know the topic before the lecture then the way he explains it I'm not sure how anyone else would understand it. Tests can be hard, my lowest grade was a C, and he is "harder" on the level of grading scale. Lectures can be good but some are bad. Overall, 2.25/5 in my book
I would NOT take a class from him. Tests, homework, and lecture is all something different.
This is my second course with Jim. He is an excellent teacher. Homework is suggested. Does not matter if you have an old textbook. No surprises on the tests. No quizzes. Gives loud hints as to the test questions. Usually has a bonus question. Take-home for chapter with story problems. No complaints here. Plan to take trig with him too!
Such a great teacher! I would take him again and again! He's so easy going. Does not take attendance. He lets you know what will be on the test. He's very patient and answers questions until nobody has anymore. Tests always seem slightly more complex than what we did i class but he gives partial credit on wrong answers if you we're partially right.
Taking a class with him was dissatisfying and unfortunately a waster of my time. He was unclear in lecture and hasty. Horrible at responding to questions and often unavailable during office hours. he is unresponsive to emails and family emergencies, frankly he is rude. He is a student as well which affects his teaching performance and quality.
I went from an A in Math 090 to withdrawing from this class since I would inevitably fail. He is a VERY harsh grader. A minor error WILL get you an F on the question, regardless of how well you display your understanding of the process. What is even better is he didn't allow calculators, so I would fail my tests due to minor arithmetic errors.
Taking a class with him was waster of my time and money. He was unclear in lecture and hasty. Horrible at responding to questions . Do not take classes with him at all. He never follow the book, he is so random in his lecture jumping from one lecture to other. lecture in class never reflect the book and homework.
Jim's lectures are good and his tests are fairly short (8-10 questions) and easy. Do the assigned homework problems and go to every lecture and you'll pass.
This instructor bounces around through the chapters and its very hard to comprehend because of this. Even an honor student had to withdraw. He is a bit eccentric and sarcastic but really its just how he sets up this class, he bounces around and its very confusing. I will not take another class with him.
worse professor i have ever had ! i would not recomend any one taking his class
VERY unhelpful... does not give much assistance, works way to quickly, horrible and describing how he works through a problem and is all over the place in a lecture. Doing the homework helps but he is of no use. The only useful lecture days are when he covers test material the day before. Do not take this teacher if you have a choice.
I loved him as a teacher! Dorky and loves math, and good at teaching it. He answers all questions until there are none left, very patient. He makes it very obvious what kinds of questions will be on the tests, and there are no quizzes! Tests are nice and short and simple. Laid back and helpful!
Great teacher. His style of teaching was entertaining enough to break up the monotony of a 2:30 minute math class. Types of questions on the tests were emphasized in his lectures. Tests graded fairly. Homework was every other odd for all sections. Overall great teacher and very fair
Quirky guy, but is really good at explaining trig concepts. Likes to put tricky questions on the tests, read very carefully. For example, he swapped CSC and SEC blanks on one test and if you just filled it out the normal pattern it was wrong. Double check instructions. Also has a fascination with using staplers correctly.
Like his style of teaching. Tries to be funny. Really good at going through the steps. Will go through any homework question in class. Takes his time. I would suggest to do extra study for the tests. Tricky and tough.
I initially liked his class. Thought he was quirky but I liked his teaching style. Homework was easy and he takes his time helping students understand the material. Then I got tested. Tests were ridiculously hard. Small concepts he went through once were tested and large concepts were skipped. Made it impossible to study for. Would not recommend.
Don't take this class unless there are no other options. His lectures are all over the place and very confusing. He does not explain the steps in a problem he just writes them on the board. I already have a basic understanding of the concepts but I leave the class more confused than when I got there. Only helpful days are the days before tests.
I came into this class thinking the test and hw would not be a super hard and long but the test were not easy and the way he grades them were Ludacris almost as if he is setting his students up for failure especially the ones struggling, he had a sarcastic almost rude sense of humor, would never recommend his class just horrible.
This was my first class of the day and definitely woke me up! Jim makes math fun with his sense of humor, homework is long but worth it, no attendance but I would definitely go. Always answers your questions and makes sure you know the material. I hear he is a tough grader but he makes clear what's on the tests and what to study. he's great!
Nice guy, but overall was horrible at teaching. Some of the concepts, you have to teach yourself. He gets distracted easily, and often times what you learn in class isn't even on the test! I would not take his class again.
Lots of homework. He doesn't grade it, just checks that something was done. Teach yourself from the book (or youtube), and consider his lectures a bonus. It helps to practice via homework, but I don't learn much from the man himself. Take responsibility for your own learning and shift your expectations in this class, and you wont be let down.
Mr. Wolfords' technique in teaching is not the greatest. He was taking college courses himself, and trying to pass his classes. I had a hard time getting help and his tests were hard. Although he has a good sense of humor, it didn't help my grade.
I would never take this instructor again. He's awful. Avoid at all costs
All classes I have taken I have gotten A's. Which means I WAS a 4.0 student until I took this Class. To be honest if you are good at math then this class is for you. He is a fun teacher BUT there is a lot of course material to pack in. He CAN be very helpful, he CAN be a tough grader but I have found if you show your work the credit will be given.
Good sense of humor, most of the time, yet his overall approach is very apathetic and he is regularly demeaning. For example, i didn't do well on a recent exam, and after I turned it in, he quickly inspected it with a very condescending look on his face, snarled, as if he just sucked a lemon. Sadly, this is typical. He is generally condescending.
Worst teacher I've ever had. Goes through "lectures" as fast as possible to meet personal goals. Straight up laughs in your face when you ask for help or questions. Very demeaning and has no respect for his students. I've never hated looking and listening to someone so much, he disgusts me. Run!!!!!
Usually I can do well in math but I actually didn't think I was going to pass this class. You have a test every week pretty much, and he knocks you off a lot of points for no reason. If you don't show up and study then goodluck.
