He's the best explainer of material I have ever seen but because of that he expects a lot from you. You CAN get a good mark if you just read the material.... He's sooo nice too!

Make chem labs are living hell, make sure you know how to use your lab equipments or you'll never hear the end of it!!
this guy sucks
He tells you to ask him for help with lab reports but is a jerk if you do. If you can stand the insults and sarcasm, you should ask anyway because he actually will tell you you're mistakes so you can fix problems before you hand in your work.
What a misery if you have him as your lab instructor.Mostly get red marks ,you can even get 1 or 0.5 in your lab reports.Quizes are tough too.This guy really SUCKS :( .All you can do is pray to GOD for not meeting him.
oopss....Just Pray before you entering your first chem lab.I would say it like entering a lion cage coz you can even get 0.5 out of 10 for your lab mark.BE extra AWARE if you planned to take it as your lab instructor..

The biggest **** i've ever met. I've never gotten so many marks taken of a lab for no reason. The only person I know that would take off marks for writing 03 instead of 2003 for the year.
The MEANEST, most HORRIBLE n SARCASTIC POWER-TRIPPING labr*t u can find. Don't come 2 him for help, he will stab you in the back later on. He will grind u down if he finds the chance: try forgetting a commain ur HW! I hate him!
Very clear about what he expects. Listen up. He is meticulous, but that is his job as a lab instructor. If you show interest (and don't drop burets), he is very acommodating, and willing to help.

A very straightforward and direct instructor, who is extremely picky but at the same time means well. Very clear with instructions, so pay attention or he will blask you for mistakes. Know how to use a bunsen burner, and be very specific w/ measurements.

Pay attention to EVERYTHING he says in class b/c he will nail you for making any kind of mistake at any given time. He does mean well because his main intent is to make you think; he should try and nicer about it.
Good ratings should be done by himself.He made my classmate cried 3 times in a term and failed her because the first day she forgot to bring her lab book to the weighing room.Meanest, cruelest, worst instructor ever seen. AVOID HIM!

This guy has been teaching at Langara for over 20 years and is protected by union, that is why he is still there. He wouldnt last 1 week working for a private company. He's the worst teacher I have ever come across.
I mean he's not even civil. He just walks around making condescending comments. Well, whoopee Jimbo, you're good at titrations! Take a bow. Looks like it has gotten you far, to the top tier of the Langara College Chem lab. Your parents must be proud.

I think he really needs to re-evaulate his career. He's not a people-person. His marking is not consistant (some ppl lose marks 4 things, while others dont). He is very cold and its a pain in the A** to try and talk to him during his office hour. You are made to feel like you are disturbing him.
He's pathetic and more thank likely just a miserable human being. Wouldn't you be if you worked in a college chemistry lab. That has to be a miserable existence. Chair of chem department obviously has no clue what he's doing. That department is the worst in Langara.
If you don't take him seriously you will find him sarcastic because he only calls a person an idiot when they are acting like one. He rambles so it's hard to pay attention but if you do listen he is very clear on what you are suppose to do. You are only stupid in his eyes if you don't listen.

make sure not to fart in his lab or he'll take 2 marks off your lab report--he looks for any excuse to take off marks. He must've had a terrible life and this is his way of paying society back. Simply the BIGGEST loser in the lower mainland.

if you pass in your lab in the same format example that he gives then you will lose less marks. But other than that the guy is a complete idiot.

The worst instructor i've ever had. He's not helpful at all n he is a tough marker. His accent is horrible, and even if u pay attention u wont understand him. I hate chem labs bcoz of him. He should be fired as soon as possible! He's SO mean!
Jim is about as good at teaching as a wheelchair bound 4 year old quadrapalegic with cystic fibrosis would be at swimming.

Oh my.. The guy has over 70 ratings with an average of 1 helpfullness and easiness. i took his lab last term, most of us thought he is sick and needed mental treatments. Cheers.

he was fired before, but langara rehired him due to shortage. he is a pain in the ass, and enjoys making fun of students in front of everyone. him and theresa belong together as both seem to be on their period 24/7, he marks VERY strictly, takes 5 marks off of lab if data isn't perfectly accurate. bad accent too, its three, not "shree", ****bag

This guy has issues. It's like something happened to him during his childhood. He's a anger person. He criticize everything you do. If you ask him for help, he gets all defensive. He should not be in the teaching profession at all. He thinks he's the "bomb" but in reality, if he is the "bomb" he wouldn't be stuck in langara for 20+ yrs.
I don't know what you are all complaining about. Chem labs are strict in general. If you are complaining about Jim you have obviously not tried any of the other lab instructors. Jim is strict, but he always gives the reasoning behind the rules. If your lab reports are lousy then you will lose marks REGARDLESS of the instructor!

A mediocre lab instructor. He is authoritative, rude, picky and very unreasonable. Marks trivial things that don't even matter on the assignment, like eraser marks. Has no consistent marking scheme so its impossible to improve your grade; takes twice as marks off from an identical error in the same lab. Should not teach, needs to be fired.

I've worked so hard on my lab;however, he just took the mark away for stupid reasons like stepping in the lab 1 minute after bell rings. he sucks and teases students all the time and make them feel stupid.
rude, arrogant and just a mean person overall..Always teasing students and if you go to him for help, he will make you feel like the biggest idiot out there. I left his office knowing less than I did going in. He SHOULD be kicked out of Langara, he is probably the rudest teacher I hav ever met.
Jim's a good guy. Yeah, he is a tough marker, and is really picky. But he is extremely clear and straightforward in his explanations. I didn't like him at first but he grew on me toward the end of term. Work hard in his class, you'll get the marks, and you'll really learn how to do Chem lab write ups properly.

If there was ever a school shooting I would not want to be in his class during that time. This guy is condescending towards his students, which I assume is his defense mechanism he developed over the years to offset his ability to adjust his ability to actually be an effective instructor.
