Prof. Zoval needs to win teacher of the year award. He takes a very difficult subject and makes it comprehensible and you actually learn and retain it. I made a C in previous Chem courses and am making an A. I do have to study hard, but he HELPS so much, promptly returning emails, encourages visiting office hours. He's nice and cares! Take him.

Zoval is seriously one of the BEST teachers ive ever had at Saddleback. Has a true passion for teaching and chemistry. He answers any question dumb or complicated, he truly wants you to succeed in this class. The tests are pretty easy. Attendance MUY IMPORTANTE!! show up to every class! it helps :) DEFINITELY TAKE ZOVAL! BEST EVER!!

Gives you all the tools too pass. I'm not as dedicated as I should be to the class and am getting a B. He explains it very well. It's a harder subject, its no sewing class. A bad teacher will force you to teacher yourself. That is not the case here. I do the HW and cram before the tests and I have a B. That means he must teach something in class.

He lets you use a flashcard with notes on both sides for the test, and the final was open book open note. however, if you are going to be late or absent do not take this class. I got A's on all the tests but missed a few lectures and was late, ended up bringing my grade down to a C:( also homework is required for every chapter! make sure you do it!

Best chem professor ever! It is a tough class and you must work very hard to score an A but Dr. Zoval loves what he does and goes way above and beyond to help his students. He makes chemistry fascinating and fun! Take him!

He provides you with everything you need to pass, however its alot of work. you need to be there every class period and have to arrive before the beginning of class if you want credit. if you cant attend, or cant be on time, or cant do all the homework, then you cant pass. he lets you use notecards on tests but its not as helpful as u may think

His class is quite entertaining. His lectures are simpleNhelpfull, youre allow to use notecards for exams. I liked his class, but i felt he favor others, I went to him for help several times and blew me off, told me to read the text which i had!! He also gives you ALOT of Homework.

Dr. Zoval is a babe!! Such an amazing professor who is willing to help any student who asks! He even stayed late to help clarify things for me when he had a baseball game to get too! He is a great guy and super funny but most of all a wonderful teacher!! I learned SO much from Zoval and it has all stuck with me in my bio classes!! LOVE him!!

If you want to learn take him! He's very helpful and always encourage students to come to office hour for tutoring. One thing I don't like about him is his participation. No excuses and that's his rule. I was supposed to get a B but because of my absences, which I asked permission a big pts of my total grade was deducted and ended up with a D.

Don't take this class lightly. You need to put in lot of time into this class. The material is not hard but need to stay on top of your work and study a lot. It was a great class - learned so much. Prof. Zoval is a real great teacher.

I spent over 80 hours in the tutoring center, but never went to office hours. Dr.Zoval was very clear & helpful. You must do all the study guides, homework, and always show up to class if you want an A. No questions.

Dr. Zoval is probably the best professor I have ever had. He is crystal clear about his expectations and gives you all the tools you need to get an A. Don't expect babysitting...he has high expectations of his students, but if you put in the work you can earn an A. Do the worksheets! He uses technology really well and is extremely accessible.

I'm honestly shocked to see that people were disappointed with Prof. Zoval. He truly made me love Chem and was SO beyond helpful with the material (and other questions that didn't relate). He loves to help students with the class and the online hw showed me exactly what I was doing wrong. Definitely take his class, you'll love chem at the end!

This class is a flipped format. Students watch the lectures at home and do homework in class. Attendance is mandatory. This class is a lot of work but Dr. Zoval is really helpful. Be prepared to commit many hours a week to this class. You will learn a ton.

Didn't use my book at all, only opened it once. He goes off lecture notes, study them like crazy and you'll do great on exams. He does the problems online(homework.) Labs are fun. I learned so much and the video presentation was not hard, I got an on it. DO IT WITH TIME, Not LAST MINUTE. Overall great professor, helpful if you have questions.

He's a great teacher, patient, and will explain more for you upon request. HOWEVER. Personally, i'm not a fan of the flip-flopped class structure (but that's just me), it makes me procrastinate more than i already do. Also i really couldn't get myself to go to non lab days when we only did homework in class. seemed pointless and a waste of gas.

I Loved Dr. Zoval. His class really forced me to want to learn chemistry. He responds to emails quickly, and has office hours daily to help his students. Plan on spending 20 hours a week on this class though. And don't miss class or be late if you want an A. Participation is a whole letter grade!!!!

Great professor. Do the work, go to class (without being late) and you should be able to pass easily. Get a cheat cheat for all the tests and for the final open book, open notes. Class requires a lot of time but get the work done to pass

Dr. Zoval is so enthusiastic and eager to help. His love for the subject is almost contagious. Loved his sense of humor. However, it should be advertised as a hybrid online/traditional class since the lectures AND homework are online. If this isn't your thing maybe you should reconsider, which is sad because he's such a good teacher.

He uses a flipped class meaning the lectures are at home to watch on his website. Plan out like 3-4 hours to watch his videos for one chapter. They are LONG! He gives you in class to work on the "homework", so if you have any questions he is always there to help. Very fun class, nice professor.

I hated chemistry with all of my heart before taking Dr. Zoval's class. He knows his stuff, and is incredibly patient and willing to help you. He never makes you feel dumb, which is always a plus side in a really hard class. I wish he taught more science classes. Just be prepared for a lot of independent work.

Flipped format is nice, you can catch up if you're behind or rewatch lectures you didn't understand. A lot of information, doesn't go too in depth though. Dr. Zoval is GREAT! He is dedicated to his students' success. His online lectures are very thorough and explain chemistry (complicated as it is) in a clear language. He helps his students with everything, even tech issues. I can't imagine this class taught any other way or taking it with anyone else. Kudos if you can get into his class!

Zoval is AWESOME! He loves answering questions and always stays after class. The lectures are prerecorded on his website and the homework is online. He gives you the entire class period to watch the lessons and work on homework. If you are not disciplined with the weekly lectures and homework you will fall behind! Lab is all partner work too.

Class is basically just watch his online lectures and do the hw that comes with it. Also, he lets you use a notecard on the first 2 tests, 1 pc of paper on the 3rd one, & all notes on final. And theres one video project assigned that u can do with a partner. He is also very understanding and easy-going and will help you if you have any questions!

His class is hybrid, you watch his videos and do online HWs but have to be present at the class although he doesnt teach in class .It is not an easy class, but if you put effort you can get A . He is funny, knowledgeable, willing to help you anytime you have a question, gives extra credit and the exams are not so hard with a cheat sheet allowed!

Professor Zoval is AMAZING. He expects a lot of work from you. But as long as you watch his video lectures, do the work sheets and come to class for help on the homework. You should do well. He is very encouraging and explains things very well. He also is VERY quick to respond to emails and questions. He is a very approachable, caring person!

So it is pretty much like a hybrid class. You watch the lecture videos at home or on the day your not doing labs. I recommend watching them at home and then work on the homework when you are with your classmates and with him. He is very helpful. Loves when you asks questions. Pre labs are not hard at all. He is an easy grader.

Zoval is the smartest individual you will probably ever meet in your life. He is also the kindest. Any question or concern you have with chemistry, he will clarify it and make you understand it 150% of the time. His homework program is great, he makes chemistry intriguing and if you do the homework and practice his worksheets, you will pass. :)

Do not take Chem108 with any other professor! He models a flipped classroom which is amazing. I hated chem before taking this class. He allows you to have notecards on the exams and he tests you on material that he clearly presented. He doesn't try to trick you. Labs are straight forward. Overall, an AMAZING professor.

Amazing & Kind!! Great "flipped format" teaching style leaves the entire class time to ask question and never judges when you have a question or if you are behind in classwork. He is always available during his office hours 3 days a week, and will allow student to pop into another class to ask questions if there isn't a test or lab going on.

Professor Zoval does a flip class room approach, which at first made me really nervous, it ended up working out great for me. It really taught me how to manage my time and if you had any questions on the lecture you were able to ask him during class time. You are allowed a study sheet with you on all exams. Labs are fun and straight forward.

PHD Zoval and Dr. Petka Both amazed at the level of commitment they showed towards myself and everyone in the class. They truly cared and made sure you didn't just memorize but really understood the concepts and ideas presented in Organic and Biochemistry. My only disappointment is that I can't take all my Chem Science Pre Reqs from them. Awesome!

Prof. Zoval is one of the greatest teachers of my student career; his class is flipped, so you watch his lectures at home and utilize him, his knowledge, and your classmates for homework problems during class time. This class is very clearly laid out. Dr. Zoval is willing to work with you if you don't understand something... you are allowed to have a notecard for the exams. As long as you understand how to do the problems on the worksheets and you have a notecard to help, you should do fine in the class.

He uses a flipped class method that gives you the freedom to learn the lecture anywhere at anytime online. Prof Zoval presents the material in a concise manner, enticing our curiosity about the subject matter with related facts (ex: ethanoic acid + pentanol H2O + pentyl ethanoate, an ester that smells like bananas, etc). All lectures are prerecorded & available as online videos--I preferred reading the book but doing both is best. TAKE GOOD NOTES!

Zoval is a chem genius and his video lectures are top tier! Youll pass if you put in the effort and manage your time well. Hes capable of explaining the concepts in many diff ways, so dont be afraid of asking too many questions! Feeling overwhelmed after exam 1, I told him I may have to drop, but I listened to his advice and passed with an A!

Took his hybrid Chem 108 class, basically you watch lecture videos and complete review problems. He is always open to answering questions and passionate about chemistry. Tests become more difficult as you progress so you need to stay on top of the lecture video schedule and studying. Would recommend him, but be prepared to work.

He is absolutely amazing and knows what he is doing! However, if you are a student who struggles with science in general I think you should consider taking courses where the lectures are NOT taught through videos (although they are not hard to pick on, but he might make you rewatch a thing or two if you still haven't understood it).

If you have the chance to take Dr. Zoval, TAKE HIM. Although his video lectures can be long sometimes, he really goes into detail on every topic which helps you understand each concept. I thought I was in a bad position since I only have regular high school chem as my experience but I turned out just fine. Dr Zoval really cares for his students.

Professor Zoval is definitely one of my favorite professors. He makes the chemisty easy for his students especially withhis recorded lecture and lab videos so you can watch them whenever you want. The fill-in lecture notes are also very helpful.

Dr. Zoval is an incredible professor who knows his stuff and truly cares about his student's understanding of the material. He runs his class the same way as in person, which meant a lot to me since some professors are unorganized online. It's already a tough course, so yes it takes commitment, but he is really clear about everything and helpful.

i used to hate chem in hs but zoval made me like it. everything u do for the class (watch video lecs, do worksheets, review set, labs) helps you for all his tests. lets u use notes on tests. study the practice review probs each chapter bc questions from there are on the exams & you're set. did that and got high As on all tests. easy hybrid class.

Dr. Zoval was AMAZING. I took him chem 108 fall 2021, hybrid class. Lectures were all videos and he made them as fill in lectures that correlate to his textbook. He is very passionate about what he teaches. Only thing is that tests are worth 75% of your grade, so if you dont understand the material, just ask for help.

Dr. Zoval is on-point in organization. All Chem 108 courses at Saddleback are taught using his video lectures and notes. He grades almost immediately. He's also accommodating with late assignments, re-make of labs and test due to certain life circumstances. His class isn't easy but with due diligence, an A is more than feasible.

I highly suggest taking Dr. Zoval for Chem. By no means is this class easy, the labs and exams are pretty heavily graded so paying attention to the lecture and taking the homework seriously is what will make you pass. Dr. Zoval wants you to succeed and says you can never ask too many questions. His course is very organized and easy to follow.

His test are part multiple choice, T/F and equations but if you study the practice exams, utilize his extra credit and ask for help, you can easily pass with an A or B. Chemistry, Ochem and biochem itself was a tough class, but if you do the reading and problem sets you should be good with aiming towards an A. I took CHEM108 and the class was AMAZING. There is a bit of homework every week but nothing too bad. Getting an A is totally possible if you put in the effort needed. He also gives lots of extra credit during class if you participate. He is always willing to help and he always says we can never ask for too much help. SUPER RECOMMEND THIS CLASS!!!

He's an incredible professor! He goes into so much detail in lectures, which helps with understanding. Purchase the lab manual if you are going on a trip anytime during the semester. Use every single notecard/cheat sheet to your advantage! Work hard on the homework, and then the exams should be a breeze. He's always available if you have questions.

Second time taking Chem108 due to failing with a different professor- Received 101%. I took a hybrid course. You overall get what you put into it- but there were a few times I considered changing my major to Chemistry because Zoval is just that inspiring and a great instructor. Very understanding and kind. Highly recommend. Take him, do it.

You get what you put in. I put in a lottt of time and effort and ended up with over 100%. Zoval is a GREAT professor. I took his hybrid course -- lectures are very clear. Do the hw and practice exams and you will be set for exams. Offers extra credit. Will always make his time available to help via Zoom. Utilize the tutoring center! TAKE HIM!!!

Took chem 2x in HS, barely passed. Lecture videos & notes are provided by professor & tests on exactly what he teaches, no trick questions. Very easy to understand, made me love chem. (i hated chem) YOU WILL LEARN all the fundamentals easily. DO the hw. did not need to do extra studying on my own. professor is flexible & will help you!

Professor Zoval is a fantastic instructor. The lectures are clear, and he is always willing to help. Doing the homework and practice exams is key to success. unstuck ai was a great study tool alongside the provided resources. Definitely take this class!

Professor Zoval is an amazing teacher. If you're nervous about chemistry i would highly suggest taking his class, he wants you to ask questions and see him for help anytime outside of class. As long as you do the homework and take it seriously along with the practice exams, you will be just fine. Has plenty of opportunities for extra credit.

The best chemistry teacher if you need to take chemistry. He has never made me feel stupid (iykyk), which I appreciate in a teacher lol. I did hybrid with in person lab and online lecture (highly recommend) bc they're just videos you watch online and you can go at your own pace.

Best chemistry professor! You can tell he cares for his student to succeed! I had tried taking this class with another professor and I dropped because he was unbearable ( in so many ways), Zoval is the way to go!

Zoval is AMAZING. I have never before stepped foot in a chemistry class but he was so easy to learn from & completely squashed my fear of chemistry. He has office hours and will schedule meeting working around your schedule any time you ask. He provides extra credit assignments that add to exam scores, do them! His lectures are clear entertaining.
