dont take her u will regret for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!i promise you with my life~
She knows her stuff. Nice lady. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes, the tests are based mostly on her lectures. There is no reason why anyone would fail.
Demands too much and is not clear with what she expects on the exams and paper.
please do not make the same mistake i made.theres nothing nice about this prof.Mean and rude, her english sucks, she's also a liar.cant teach at all, no one knows what she expects. Useless.I failed her class and will retake it with another professor.
this professor is a NIGHTMARE!!! do not make the same mistake i did. You will end up failing her class even though you come to class and do all the work. She sucks. useless
nightmare!
If you go to class, exams will be fine. For the most part, lectures and readings are fairly interesting. As long as she sees you making progress she'll be reasonable and not a tough grader. She's clear on what he expects you to do.
Very passionate about what she teaches/good at leading discussion. She's one of the few college profs who holds us to the high standards I expected when I came to college.
Attendence & assignment are necessary. Heavy work load. Show your progress. She is not that mean, and reasonable curve. Copy the PPT and use it as guideline with your text book. I got A.
She is one of the sweetest teachers I've ever had! Most of the test questions come directly from her lecture notes. I never read the textbook (one for the lecture), but listened in class, took notes and did fine.
I was extremely worried about taking this course but I learned SO MUCH. Just do the work, it's not hard, it's pretty laid out for you. Knows subject very well. Nice professor. I had a good time in her class. There are NO surprises on the test.
i dont understand all the nice comments about this prof. She is simply the worst prof that you can ever have in your entire student life. Take her if you want to retake this class again. Im serious.
40 pg articles for each class & identify the thesis on Bb, which she'll grade & most likely is wrong. A midterm & final NO ONE does good on cause her questions make NO sense & she gives a useless curve. There's a 6 pg term paper, & a presentation. To survive.. write EVERYTHING she says (tests are from the notes) and PARTICIPATE to get an A/B.
This class is not hard at all, she uses the textbook a lot, and powerpoint/films I rarely took notes and still got an A in the class. She's easy and funny because she's Japanese so she says quirky things. Nothing hard about this class at all... Study from the book and you'll do well on the tests.
She's aright. Teaches straight from her powerpoint slides and takes the test questions strait from her lectures. Dont buy the book, but u must go to class, she takes attendance, overall she not bad but its not such an easy A.
Her MC exam qsns are trickily easy. For ex, a qsn based on a 14 pg article will only ask, where did things take place? Lectures are key, but read the book/articles b/c she doesn't go over all the major details/finer points in class and they'll still show up on the exam. Easy to overlook.Majority of exam qsns aren't bad. Shes cool overall. Take her!
This class was awesome but beware because you must do the reading or you will fail miserably. Must be willing to put in effort. A nice person. Very organized. Always let the class know what was happening. Defiantly one of my favorite teachers.
My People's of East Asia course turned into a People's of Japan course. I wish I got something more out of the class. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone.
I took the winter class and it was easy as long as you read and come to class.
Bad teacher. Poor English. Instead of helping you she tests you to find out what you know. DO NOT TAKE.
This course is pretty straight forward. It can be challenging but Asia is pretty complicated. Worth taking if you are in Econ, Business, or Anthro.
She is nice. An accent but understandable. 2 multiple choice test and several quizzes. Test questions are tricky.
A lot of reading articles. She is hard to understand. Not clear!!!! Always talks about Japan when it is an anthropology class. You better not be late because she closes the door and no one is allowed in if your late. Otherwise, she is very nice
She also goes by Tomomi Emoto. There are 3 tests one of which is partially short answer and based on articles on blackboard. She locks the door once class starts and doesn't allow you in. Quizzes are for extra credit. She taught 4 chapters for the entire semester. She shows videos in class and asks questions about them on the exams. She's okay.
Do not take this class. It's very hard and the teacher is hard to understand. You must read all the readings she puts up and come to to class and take a lot of notes. Tests are very hard with confusing questions and this is not an easy class at all.
Nice professor, strict grader. Rarely curves at all, and doesn't give you partial credit on exam answers. Be prepared to read because she gives LOADS of reading. Will lock the classroom door even if you are 2 minutes late!! You can't leave during class and come back because she locks the door!nice personality, but the late policy is not so nice!!
She does not stop talking and saying the same things repeatedly. The class was atrocious. She gives a lateness penalty, yet she has been late to class a number of times, sometimes 15-20 minutes late. She can be rude and refuses to answer questions. She is difficult to understand. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bad teacher, hard to understand, always late to class. Is never clear. Can be condescending. I would never recommend. Doesn't accept emails.
This class is such a bore, impossible to stay awake because she repeats herself at least three times for everything and says "uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" after almost every word. Doesn't make clear what is important to study for the two exams, even though her lectures are all over the place (so your notes are going to be a complete mess), and those two exams basically make up your grade. I wouldn't recommend.
She repeats herself a lot and cant remember what she teach in the different classes. grading unclear and difficult to understand. she is late most of the time, but wont tolerate lateness. only two test, but questions were not properly worded and cause confusion. Also hard to ask questions and answers where unclear. Do not take this class!!!!!
Thick accent that is near impossible to understand. Most the information needed is provided during lectures via powerpoint, but she will not allow you to access slides outside of class, so you better get ALL the information the first time. Many quizzes had questions that were difficult to understand due to poor wording. I would not recommend this.
I tried to stay positive, but she is truly terrible terrible terrible professor! Condescending and hard to understand. Please transfer out! PLEASE
She has an accent, but I was able to understand her just fine. She repeats herself a lot, which got annoying after a while but it ensures you won't miss any information. In order to do well, you have to take very meticulous notes and do all of the readings because you earn extra credit from the pop quizzes.
Really nice as a person, but strict policies as a professor. She's not super clear but repeats things enough and the material is easy. Test questions are oddly phrased which could be a big deal for some questions
Horrible horrible horrible. Very condescending to some students when they ask questions. Has a strict policy on lateness but does not bother showing up on time. Has a heavy accent (I tried to give benefit of the doubt at first, because it's not her fault), but she's very hard to understand. I wish I could write more. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
Terrible just TERRIBLE its my first year here at QC and she already failed me for the semester and only one exam passed. Shes from japan and her English is terrible and has a very heavy accent. When you try to approach her with and question she will just tell you she already answered it instead of even trying to help. First F and for no reason.
She's nice enough. For the midterm she noticed that students did poorly on textbook questions so she counted them as bonus questions. The downside is that most of the time when somebody asks her a question, she won't answer it. She'll go around it and end up answering something that the student clearly did not ask.
This professor never answers students questions when asked during class. Always lectures. Grades are based on a midterm and final. Hard to understand her because of her deep accent.
Do not take. don't don't don't. I got a C minus and did better then the majority of my class. If you ask a question, she is incredibly rude and unhelpful. Difficult to understand. She curves, so that if you gfail, she'll give u the lowest possible grade to pass, probably because it'll look bad on her. Just avoid.
Don't.
Hard to understand, test questions are worded confusingly, 25/40 students in the class got a C, D, or F. Avoid this professor!
Prof Emoto is a nice lady but the material is awful. So boring. Tests are so hard and majority of the class did awfully. I studied so hard for this class.
Nice person, hard class. A lot of material on her tests. It was 2 tests and a final, although she does give some extra credit, even that is hard. Good luck! Read the books she assigns and study a week or 2 before.
terrible. terrible. terrible. all i gotta say. does not explain anything. not understanding. tests are Nothing like the class material. unfair class. hated being in the class! would never recommend
When using online learning I found it extremely difficult to keep up with her work. Weekly quizzes, readings, and lectures that many of her students do not understand because she moves too quickly, and her strong accent makes it more difficult. You are graded on the quizzes and 3 exams, exams that cover a lot of material.
I am not even exaggerating or being harsh, this has to be one of the worst professors in the school. I am taking her class online. Her tests are nothing like class lectures or her weekly quizzes. The first test was 59 question with a 60 minute time limit and if you submit late you get a zero. You welcome I am telling you this take a diff professor
i'm a freshman taking her class rn bc i was shoved into it. unless you're really motivated and good at self-teaching, you're NOT going to pass. you're given either barely an hour or just over an hour to take a 60 or so multiple choice exam. your grade is heavily reliant on test scores and you need to score a 60 at least on each one
Most likely might have to withdraw, this class has no structure what so ever. She changed her format mid semester, prior to that change constant quizzes with nothing to do with the material or vaguely from material. Seriously, her PowerPoints have no significance or notes to take, its just pictures and barely any retainable information. Money gone
She rarely answers questions, her time limits for tests and quizzes are tragedies, If you miss the small margin of time that the tests begins at, you can say bye bye to both a chance to even try the test and a reasonably fine day, and there are little to no make ups. I highly advise getting a different teacher.
honestly one of the worst professors I've had. all she does is lecture and refuses to answer student's questions. she is extremely hard to contact the only reason i passed was because I had friends to help me.
1. Attend the lecture if you don't understand the readings 2. To be honest, just read the texts, do the hw and projects, attend lectures to pass. 3. She doesn't like answering questions... 4. Her rules are VERY strict, follow them carefully 5. Her exams have more than 40 questions good luck!
Hard to contact but work is easy. Readings are interesting.
Expect to read a lot of articles. Overall, this professor is the one that I've learned the most from in attending her class. Her classes are very interesting and eye-opening. The only bad thing I could say is that she is a strict grader. If you read the articles and have a great understanding of them, you'll do fine.
Never explains anything properly. Anytime I would ask a question I never got an actual answer. All of her slides consists of pictures and emojis. When you ask her questions she never knows how to answer them. I would not recommend this class at all. This is probably the worst professor to teach this class.
Expects you to follow directions on the syllabus to a T and expects your camera to be on for Zoom meetings. Exams are ridiculously easy (and noncumulative) and projects are extremely short. Read the articles, take notes in class, and you're guaranteed an A.
Not sure why her reviews are so low on RMP. Her material is pretty straightforward and she goes over the homework in class. Just make sure to take notes because she doesn't post slides or recordings. Her homework can be a little tricky so pay attention to the readings. Focus on the readings and notes then you should be fine for the tests.
Pretty simple material... she just doesn't teach it. She just reads off slides that are 80% emojis 10% text and 10% useless info. Granted you wont need the slides, if you don't come to class or read the text... you will probably pass anyway. Also she doesn't know how to work the lights which is just annoying.
You can't understand her. She doesn't know the answer when people ask her questions. She only reads her material off the slides. She doesn't make class interesting.
Super simple class. You'll pass if you take good notes, study them, ask clear questions, do the relatively easy blackboard assignments, and focus instead of complain and whine all the time !! It's just a lecture class with slides and films, but some info you'll have to listen for. Review sheets have almost everything on exams. It's a simple class.
The class is an easy A. Just do your "work" on blackboard which barely exists, and study for the easy ahh exams and you'll be good. Oh, and she curved a lot and gave extra credit work.
I did really enjoy her class, although I wished she posted those lessons on Bb. Overall, its personally an interesting class and quite fair. Exams are all MC, quite easy as long as you read the text or take notes in her lectures. I would say don't miss a class unless, of course, you have ways to catch up with the material again.
I still don't understand her and her accent. Skip her class and you will fail. Her notes are so dry so if u can understand what she's saying, write it down its gonna be on the test. Not accessible outside of class and grades slowww
She was an ok professor who had boring lectures. She gives readings which have a multiple choice assignment on Bb. The class is easy if you pay attention to what she says and take good notes. Overall decent class to pass if you pay attention but boring lectures. Her slideshow presentations are mainly pictures with minimal words.
Hey professor Jimee Choi and she is best professor I ever had. I had to moved her classes in middle of sept and it was so sad and she so sweet nice too!
Prof Jimee Tomomi is amazing! I am a freshman so it was the first lecture class I was taking. Her delivery is captivating and her teaching is eye-opening. Overall amazing professor and would surely take her class again!
She wasn't a terrible professor, but definitely not a good one.Her lectures are dry and confusing, she is all over the place when teaching and has AWFUL powerpoints. She preaches punctuality but is ALWAYS late. You will probably only pass if you show up and take VERY DETAILED notes. She will say something is not on the test but it is.
Professor Tomomi asks for respect from all her students. If you attend all her lectures and take notes you will do good. You need to go to class in order to pass the exam. Her homework assignments are very fair. For the cons, she is a repetitive lecturer who repeats the same idea over and over. It is also hard to understand her point sometimes.
She does not care about you she comes in so ready to kill any dreams.if she does go back to answer a question you might have she will give you the most shortest answer in history and it wont help you whatsoever many things happened to me and my peers in her class but describing it would show who i am DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
The lecture slides were irrelevant and just had emojis. Unfair grading. Every assignment is one question that's irrelevant to the subject. If you get the question wrong the whole assignment gets marked failed. Tests were unreasonably hard. Refuses to answer questions from students and if she does she doesn't know how to answer it.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR, she refuse to answer questions asked by students. Have a THICK accent, very hard to understand. She needs to be more lenient with grades and give clearer explanations.
Nice professor, grading is harsh. Have to listen carefully because she doesn't like to repeat more than once. Often time her explanations are clear but ATTEND ALL CLASSES IF YOU WANT TO PASS.
such an easy class if you just show up and take notes. 3 exams (75%), one project (5%) and the rest is assignments and attendance. no reason you shouldnt get an A. tests are about the readings but they are not bad. some questions on the test are confusing but there is a huge curve on them
this professor cannot teach at all. she uses slides on the smartboard with emojis and pictures and tries explaining them but it's impossible to comprehend the words because of her thick accent. she doesn't answer questions, penalizes you for emailing her, two exams make up your entire grade and the questions are all over the place. DONT take her
Two tests based on the lectures and class readings/films. Be prepared to self teach and do extra research on the topics because her material does not prepare you for the exams. class average was a 44 and she had to curve it for both exams.
DO NOT TAKE HER EVEN IF ITS THE ONLY CLASS... THERES A REASON HER CLASS ALWAYS HAS SPACE; SHE CANT TEACH! the slides don't even cover everything on the exams and she has an attitude with all students when they ask questions.
Not a bad class but the professor doesn't explain anything well or help answer questions. If you are okay with reading the notes and analyzing the class readings daily then take the class. She also doesn't respond to emails so try to ask your classmates. Would not take again as the class takes too much time.
Can't miss a single class otherwise you are screwed. Very hard to understand and I often see students ask her to explain something they don't understand but she explains it more confusing than before. Also 90% of her slides which she doesn't post are just images and little to no text. Please don't take this professor even if its your only option.
2 exam on semester ,no homework, but have many article and film, most exam question in the article and film, she is very nice .
HORRIBLE teacher! i got a good grade in the class only because of hours and hours of work every day. The professor does not put in work when it comes to explaining notes / slides. DO NOT TAKE HER
ended up taking this class last semester because it was the only one that fit my schedule and i regret it even though i passed - entire grade based on exams - prof gets mad if you email her and ask questions (lol?) - threatens to deduct 1% of grade everytime students are late even though shes always late DO NOT take her, theres a reason its open
AVOIDD.NOO. She even don't like to answer students email. You can't even understand her accent for sure.
Only gives two tests and they are 90% of your grade. Her questions don't match up with review sheets either. Great course but not taught well by professor
Pros: - Everything is on bright space - No group projects - Easy 1 question “quiz” homework - Generous with extra credit points on tests Cons: - no phones allowed - strong accent - going to the bathroom or being late alot reduces your grade - Her final and midterm questions make no sense and sometimes are not related to what we learned in class
