He is nice, a little hard to understand, tests are hard
This course requires hard work. Test are hard.
the reason I am no longer a chem major! hard to understand (take some english classes maybe?) and tests on stuff he doesn't explain
his class is not easy to get an A, but his class is helpful and clear. i think he is much better than the Dr. Larson. Li's class is better for international students to take.

Easy on grading
Nice person but not thorough in his teaching. Vague, goes too fast, and prefers to talk over explaining things on the board like other science teachers. Several students (even A students) dropped or changed teachers.
Mr. Li is the nicest person I've ever met, I think he's partial to girls since he's got a daughter, but he is very unclear. Hard to understand what he's saying, only has 1 hour a week designated as an office hour. He's a great person and has potential.
Great teacher but hard to get an A
His accent makes him very difficult to understand. His class requires alot of reading since you probably won't get his lecture. Test are hard and class is boring. Not recommended, especially if your a chem or biology major.
This man is very hard to understand, and his material is hard to understand, his tests and quizzes are hard to understand... basically it is very hard to get an A. And even harder to stay awake.
His accent is a bit tough to folllow but possible. His handwriting is worse than his accent though. He is a funny guy, but mediocre teacher. Test and quizzes don't necessarily reflect what is in the book or lectures. This is not a fundamental class.
DISREGARD ALL THE SMACKTALKIN'. JIMMY CHEMISTRY IS THE BEST TEACHER ON CAMPUS! HIS ACCENT IS HILARIOUS AND IF YOU PUT IN 20 OR SO HOURS OF STUDY PER WEEK THEN YOU WILL GET AN "A". TRUST ME. TAKE THIS TEACHER.
he is very clear and helpful
awesome teacher!
Great and helpful always return message
Not the best lecturer in the world, and seems to rush students seeking advice after class. The class is hard but he does do a decent job of preparing students.
I did NOT enjoy this class. I had a very hard time understanding the material even when reading the book. His tests are hard and if you are looking for an easy A this class is NOT for you! Will not take him again.
He is a great instrucor. I enjoyed the course and the way he teaches. I found this instructor veryhelpful and nice person. I really appreciate him.
Lectures are nice, but don't encompass all materials in the book. Easy grader for labs. Final grades are curved.
I got the lowest midterm exam score in the class and still managed to drop a "B+" grade average 'cause Jimmy Chemistry curves generously. His accent is pretty funny...just ask him to pronounce "Synthesis" three times fast! 8-D
unprepared, disorganized, slacker, you want to learn chemistry DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
awesome teacher. not he know that u are not Chem major, he try to help students to pass the class.
i can honestly say that out of my 3 yrs at FH, mr. li is the best. he is so helpful and understanding it's unbelievable. he completely prepares you for the mids and final, even tells you where and how to study for them. he even gives back your exam the following day. Great guy, & an amazing teacher
I like when he poses questions that make you think critically. This is the first time I actually understand chemistry concepts. He can stay for almost an hour after class just to answer questions from students which shows dedication in his work.I almost dropped this subject because now I don't need it,but it may actually boost my GPA so glad I stayed
I especially like his lecture since it is clearer and more concise than the textbook. If you have some knowledge of math and basic chemstry, you just will be fine. He is patient to student and is a easy grader. Not a easy A class, but that is not impossible as long as you work hard
Very laid back teacher! If you are not a chem major he tries very hard to have you pass the class. His quizzes are easy but study for the exams! And definitely look at what he repeats in class or points out on overheads b/c they are on tests!!!

This class was one the most interesting classes that I have ever had. I enjoyed his lecture a lot because of the way he teaches. I have never had chemestry before, but I ended up with A. I just found chemestry very very enjoyable course, dear Mr. Li.
Good teacher if you are not a chem major.I took it in summer so it goes FAST (14 chapters in 6 weeks). The last 2 days of class is final review in the form of a chemistry contest between 2 teams.Do NOT be tempted NOT to go to the 2 day review. The review REALLY helps on the finals as you will know the type of questions and what he will focus on.
Great teaacher, the most understanding teacher I've ever had. Also took it during the summer, don't recommend (look at bottom comment) cause it's way too fast especailly if science isn't your best subject. But get help in tutorial center and ask Prof Li. for advice for studying tips. Unfortunately tutorial center has no tutors during the last wee
Good instructor, very nice guy and VERY understanding. If Chemistry is not easy for you, take Li he grades on a generous curve. Gives credit for partial work on quizzes, but exams are multiple choice. Gives good review and let's you know exactly what to expect on the exams. You learn too...you learn a lot!!
Not a really nice guy. His exams are easy. Easy A class.
his lab was amazingly easy. like he doesnt really grade your lab. just make sure you understand your stuff and you'll easily get 9-9.5/10 for labs. he is so understanding.. that he makes sure the lab quizzes are within our limits. he is awesome. you'll be blessed to have him
he is a great teacher. labs are very helpful and he makes sure you get the right answers. His class is interesting and he is very clear in his explanations. I recommend him.
Read the labs beforehand like you're supposed to, but even that isn't always necessary as they aren't very complicated and you can just wing it sometimes. His lectures were straightforward and understandable when I was awake for them. He likes calculations that integrate different concepts on his tests. (The first one was the hardest for me.)
Great teaching style. Good lectures barely need the text.
Mr. Li gives great examples that make things very clear.
Mr. Li makes chemistry very interesting which removed all my fears
Lectures, sample tests, and book problems do not reflect his tests, which are 100x harder and are too long (2 hours?). When he lectures he writes a sample problem on the board and solves it, without going into too much detail about how or why he solved it that way. He should write important concepts on the board instead of just skimming over them.
he's very easy going. READ THE BOOK before coming to class (whether he says you need to or not). when he lectures he shows the harder problems and doesn't go into details, that's why u gotta read. really easy lab grader + quizes. midterms are tough, final is easy (he gives a sample of almost every problem on the final)
He is great
LOVED HIM
Mr. Jimmy Li is awesome. He is a good teacher and he still uses public humiliation to keep the little punks in line! He is mean, sarcastic and really funny!
great and helpful
nice guy. don't take him if you want him to teach you chem so you really understand it...only if you can teach yourself from the book and want an easy A
Professor Li teaches the basics of chemistry really well. He's concise, clear, and funny. Also, he prepares you well for his exams. Straightforward and a good guy!
Best teacher EVER!!!
very helpful. His teaching was based on the textbook, but actually we dont even need to read them before class. You'd better show up in order to get a good grade, cuz so many in class examples did help understanding.btw, the online practices were good sources, too. Overall, a wonderful teacher I've seen here!
best tescher. easy. you need to read his notes and book.
he is definitely a nice guy.he is helpful and funny. But his 2 midterms are extremely hard. If you can survive from these 2 midterms, you should be fine for the final. Not a easy A grader.
Very informative, has a very straight for teaching style and he is willing to help you if you really need it. His tests were difficult, but he has a great grading policy that could potentially help you if you aren't doing well. Overall I liked his class, and I hope to have him for Chemistry later on.
Great teacher, knowledgable and very helpful.
He's knowlegable and good teacher. His course isn't that easy if u haven't studied high- leveled chemistry before(me) . Htests are pretty straight- forward, you should be able to do well if u're willing to study hard. Remeber to study the textbook as well.
Good teacher. Be sure to ask questions in order to show that you are trying
He's a really nice teacher. His quizzes are hard but if u do the online homeworks u'll be fine on quizzes. I did the online HWs & midterm looked so easy to me. Quizzes might look easier if he could give more than 50minutes. He gives extra credits too. He teaches clearly and perfectly! Knows everyone's name!! loves multiple choices! Loved his class!
Quizes were very challenging, I never got higher than a C. Although as long as you study a lot the midterm and final are easy. I ended up with a B+ in the class. As long as you go to all the labs, do the online hw, and pay attention in class you will be JUST fine. READ THE BOOK. ITS VERY HELPFUL-a lot easier to understand than his lectures.
AWESOME! funny too
Professor Li tries very hard to make every student in his class successful and he is good at explaining the course materials. He's also pretty funny. If you pay attention in class and do the assigned homework you'll do well in the class.
He is pretty good at explaining stuff. His lectures are kind of boring, but chemistry is boring, so I guess he makes it slightly less boring than it could be. Pretty easy to get a good grade if you go to the labs and lectures (although lectures aren't mandatory) and study. Ask for help if needed. DO WELL ON THE LABS.
He knows his stuff. Go to labs and lectures, it'll help a lot on the tests. Read the materials, and you will do fine. If you have questions, ask him. He's a really helpful teacher and will stop to explain things you don't understand.
he is awesome! his class and quiz are easy, and he can meke the point clearly.also his grade is high! He can help you alot. so take his class, you will not regret!
passion, great and enthusiastic
He's nice, slightly can be funny but he is very monotone. Can be boring, hard subject. Read book & youtube videos will help you more then his lectures. I had to drop because I didn't get everything till after Chapter 1-8 midterm #1 came. So I dropped. Good thing is you get a 4X6 cheat sheet & you may use the periodic chart on tests! Good luck! =)
Professor Li is an excellent teacher. Hes lectures were clear and very helpful, he tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams. The midterms were straight forward and the final was very similar to the midterms . I wish i could take all chem classes with him
Took Mr. Li's class over the summer and although a lot of info was covered, I couldn't have asked for a better prof. He's sweet, grades on a curve, almost every lab day ended an hour earlier than scheduled, and the cheat sheets he allowed helped so much. My only complaint is that he isn't teaching 30B during fall. Most definitely recommended.
Nice and good teacher, highly recommend!
Not clear at all, quizzes are very hard. He puts questions on there he doesn't cover how to solve. Avoid this class.
Lectures are tend to drag and not required unless you want to earn a few xtra credit points for quizzes and tests. The powerpoint slides used aren't very helpful. So with this case the textbook is better and highly recommend reading it and supplementing with online vids. Mr. Li is helpful when you ask questions or visit him during office hours.
Mr.Li is very practical. He delivers lectures in a manner where people who are being introduced to chemistry can understand. That's very hard to do for most professors. He applies to everyday life so one can remember and rationalize concepts! Thanks Mr.Li! -CTV , summer 13
This teacher is absolutely horrible! He is unclear about what will be on the tests and quizes. Puts material on the tests that was never covered in class. Also expects everyone to be math or science majors. If you are not very strong at math do NOT take this class!!!
Maybe the best chem 25 teacher
He's a really nice guy, fairly good teacher. Only labs are mandatory (he takes role). His voice during lectures can make you sleepy or be boring at times. Do the reading, pay attention in lectures (most of the time), and study for the quizzes, midterm and final exam. A simple class for a good grade to get through basic chem and move on to chem 1A.
He is a really nice Taiwanese. And he speaaks with a little accent. His tone can make you sleep, but his lecture are helpful and he doesn't expect you to be on time. But for lab, he does! That is also because lab is important. His final are easy and the thing in his test are always same with thing he taught. Love him!!
MrLi is a great professor. You really should read the textbook before attending lecture. His lectures can get a tad boring. He is an easy grader when it comes to labs. Always be sure to check online hw regularly, sometimes he puts it up the day before its due. Helpful guy, intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, he is very approachable
Very nice teacher!!!!
Fabulous professor! Extremely knowledgeable. Always had very helpful explanations. Genuinely cares about the success of his students and their futures, goals and careers. He was very organized with lectures and willing to work with his students to make sure they succeed. Also provided lots of guidance on exams & allowed extra credit. Take him!
His lectures are quite boring, but he gives excellent real life analogy to understand chemistry better. His lecture notes are very detailed, and the quizzes and exams revolves around the notes. The assignments on masteringchemistry are a lot, and quite difficult if you do not have a certain basic idea of what has been gone through in class. Easy!
Jimmy Li was a great professor. I hate chemistry but he definitely made it easier through his lectures. He tells you what's going to be on the tests so go to class. He also allows 4 cheat sheets; one for each exam. However, he does go through the material extremely fast so keep up. Study, keep up with the mastering chemistry assignments. Good luck!
One of the best chem professors I've had so far. Very clear and able to explain concepts very simply. I've started to enjoy chem because he made the basics so easy to understand. Definitely go to lectures and take notes. Do the homework, the practice helps with understanding the material. Know what you're doing in lab so that you can leave early :)
It is clear to me this man does not enjoy teaching. He purports himself as though the material is beneath him and is indifferent and condescending. For essential concepts involving calculations he will provide ONE example and is bemoaned to elaborate. While I got accustomed to learning on my own, the class experience was worse for it.
Great Chem 25 and Chem 30A teacher
Lectures are fun. Quizzes are easy. Just follow him in class and do online homework. He also gives extra credit sometimes. Great professor for CHEM 30A. You don't need to buy the text book. Just buy the Masteringchemistry online code and they will provide you an e-book.
He reuses the same exams every quarter. The lectures are pretty boring. Labs are pretty straight forward, there are 3 or 4 lab quizzes. He has an accent so it's hard to understand him at times. If you attend classes every day and put in the effort, he will not fail you.
If you haven't taken chem in a while or don't have a lot of background in chem beforehand then I strongly recommend to NOT take him. He makes you feel awkward for asking questions and seems almost annoyed if you don't understand. His lectures come from slide shows and his voice makes me sleepy. He doesn't explain too much what's going on in lab.
great professor. not the easiest, but not impossible. make sure you attend lectures. he also curves grades at the end of the semester.
Very difficult exams which are stressful, but hang in there. If you go to class, pay attention, go to the labs, and do the online homework, you will not only pass but probably get a good grade. You can learn a lot, and his lectures and expectations are clear.
Dude's great and a pretty solid teacher. May tend to go on tangents often (2-3 times per lecture) but he knows what he's doing for the most part. However he is not that great at explaining things, and the only reason I easily passed his class was because of my chemistry knowledge from high school. Highly recommended if you want an easy A
Don't take Li unless you've mastered Chem1A in advance. Exams are difficult. The course moves @ a pace there's barely time to catch-up & absorb the material even if you take a hiatus on life to study. It can be a discouraging class. Seek a teacher who is patient, clearly explains concepts, and wants students to learn vs weed students out on exam 1.
Dude is smart but does not know how to explain things well. He is condescending to students. Some times students are scared to ask questions. On more that one occasion, our class was lost in lab. He was texting on his phone, not sure what he's doing on his phone all the time. Class exam average is low67-70. No curve.
Overall he's a pretty good professor. There are two midterms and one final and he clearly goes over what's going to be on the exams beforehand. Exams are worth 60%, lab is 30% and online hw is 10%, so your lab grade can definitely bring up your exam grade. Lecture is a little boring but he explains concepts pretty clearly.
Uses paper projector slides, skip slides (old school); hard to follow along w/ppt. Flexible w/deadlines, fair w/students. Exam has trick questions. Doesn't respond to emails. Lecture poorly organized w/ 3 test in 3 weeks. Good guy but poor teaching skills, boring lecture, does not explain topic concept well. You need to teach yourself. Passable.
Does not explain concepts well. Gets mad and is condescending when students ask questions. Tests are very hard, but he tells you exactly what's on them, so if you're good at studying on your own and teaching yourself, you can do well. That's the only reason I'd take him again. But I don't recommend him to people who don't already know chemistry.
I spent the entire quarter panicking about my grade in this class and trying to learn what HE would put on the test rather than chem. Tests are hard, but he goes over them in depth. Most of the questions were more related to what we did in lab, or were cherry picked from the power points. Lectures are BORING, and hard to follow. Labs are easy.
Great, Care and knowledgeable and fair to students grading.
I pretty like his class. To me it was easy; might be a bit hard for average students. As long as you get 95% on the final you automatically get an A. He provides study guide. Wanted to take CHEM 1A with him this fall, but too bad the lab prof is Rezaie. My tip for you is to study the lecture notes and find quizzes on quizlet to practice.
Communicate with Jimmy if you are struggling, he will understand and help you. He was incredibly supportive and wanted students to succeed for the right reasons. Gives feedback that was beneficial. He may appear condescending, but he has good intentions and cares. Lectures right before exams are key, you will see very similar questions on test
Prof Li is a good professor. I took him in partner with Prof. Cormia. Li is definitely more lecture heavy and though it was a little tougher, I cut him slack for having to adjust to teaching techniques during COVID. If you take him try to get Prof. Cormia as lab; he'll truly help connect the dots. Otherwise he records lectures and is accessible.
Pr. Li is always open for the dialogue. He even checked my homework, which was not required. He starts his sessions 30 min earlier so you can always ask if you don't understand anything. It was a hard class, but I learned a lot. I highly recommend. He is patients with students, he also does not make you feel bad if you ask a dumb question.
Good prof. Didn't attend lectures but passed bc of the hw. He records his lecutres anyways so it doesn't rlly matter. If you know how to do the few hw problems then you should be good for the quizzes and exams. Nice and friendly guy, isn't too tough on grading. Pretty easy class imo.
His lectures were too basic imo. I never attended class after the first two weeks. Reading the book, doing the homework, and a few practice questions is enough for a good grade. No partial credit. All quizs/exams are mult choice. MANAGE YOUR TIME. All HW is due on lab test date. If you cant stay on a schedule take a prof with more class structure.
Very easy course. The quizzes reflected straight from the homework and the final had similar problems from the textbook. The labs themselves (labster, at-home labs, etc.) and the lab quizzes are easy. Lectures are ok, but the homework problems are more helpful. An A is achievable if you just do the homework and extra textbook problems! Good luck!
A good teacher for chem 25. Quizzes were ok. Lab quizzes were easy. Watch his lectures.
Great class to take over the summer.
Took him for chem1A during the summer and before i took this class i went though 2 chem 1A professors and I which I took a W in. I am very slow learner and if you are a like me I think he is the prof for you! He goes over materials and gives EC. He yells but that is form of talking so dont fear!
Jimmy Li is a very lazy teacher and does not actually make sure that students accurately understand the material, the exams would contain material that was not covered in the lectures and a student in our class one time asked him for help on a topic that they weren't understanding and he told them to drop the class. Save yourself DO NOT TAKE.
THE RATINGS ARE A LIE!!!!! Professor always expected us to learn everything from High school. He would just say to drop the course. He just dumped work onto us and expected us to complete it without explanation. Beware of the tests you think you are prepared? NOPE, trick questions about things you should have learned in High school. Horrible class.
Watch out about Jimmy Li. He lies about material on the tests and puts extra stuff that he does not teach. He even told De Anza college that he prefers them over Foothill students even though it was his incompetence that led to the class being worse at Chem 1A. Save yourself by not taking this man he truly does not care about your learning.
Professor Li has a specific teaching style, but if you engage with it, you can succeed. Unstuckstudy and the free textbook are great study aids. Attend class, do the work, and you'll learn a lot.
Do not take. Avoid him at all cost.
He is a very nice person. I took his summer class, Chem 1A, at Foothill, and it was easy. Attend class and take notes. He is very flexible because I was going on vacation and he allowed me to move my exam dates. He tells you when you are missing something and is very patient. There would be days when he would give you an A just for attending labs
Li is an outstanding Foothill Chemistry instructor. His lectures are clear, well-structured. His teaching alone was enough for me to understand everything. As a much younger student, I really appreciated how kind and supportive he was—he treated me with the same respect and encouragement as everyone else. His class was challenging and enjoyable.
This professor is an very cunning man, who will be unable to communicate in any language well, english or mandarin. He can't speak english well and gets mad at students who make the same mistake his 50 year old self does. He also refuses to go into detail. He discourage questions or makes no exceptions ever, which is not an norm at NTU, Tsunghua.
He's rarely accessible in his office hours and his lectures were disorganized and hard to follow. The professor jumped between topics without clear transitions, making it difficult to take coherent notes. Exams didn't reflect the material covered in class.”
He is a really great teacher. I confronted him about the bad reviews he had and he said to not believe those. He was correct he was the opposite, he gave extra credit at the end. I took him during the summer, very fast paced but very manageable.
Prof Li is a nice man. Study outside of the class and solidify your understanding of underlying concepts, and brush up on them throughout the quarter. He gives extremely useful info regarding exams, so take notes. If you put in effort, you will get a good grade. Very manageable class. Work on different types of problems from the same concept.
Chem 1A. Professor Li really wants everyone to pass in his class and really takes time to explain and help out. Test and quizzes are pretty simple, in lab just do what he says and you should be all set but if you need help don't hesitate to ask he is really caring professor. Wish he teach chem 1B
I caught this professor writing reviews for himself, which are the last two reviews. I think he shouldn't be teaching if he contradicts the policies he sets forward, and will give students preferential treatment while pretending to be equal as the politician he is. I think its because he came from a poor family so we should feel bad.
He is not accessible after class as posted with the Dean being unable to help, will trip up over some problems he does and discriminates against east asians. I have my son take his class who was in middle school and can admit he was excessively grilling on him and asked my son to be taken out of class multiple times for his medical condition.
This class gave me anxiety. The textbook was unhelpful and there were a lot of overlapping concepts in lectures that got confusing when it came down to the final exam. He expects memorization, which is not effective when learning. The lectures had errors. Take notes because ppts are confusing. 50% of your grade is decided on the final week
His tests don't cover material from the textbooks with the class average being a D. He is usually late for his office hours and his an inability to communicate, from his familial background not because of his cultural heritage. He gives no exceptions to anyone taking his time even if there are hospitalizations.
I had an bad experience with an labmate of mine and Li didn't address the issue at all and was antagonized I took time from him answering his emails with people at Taiwan. His tests have the average to be 60-70% because the tests are different from the material he lectures or the textbook he assigns.
